Shopping King Louis: Episode 9

So much happens in this episode, my head is spinning. Louis’s and Bok-shil’s world is changing rapidly — just as Louis was learning to stand on his own two feet, he’s going to have to work even harder adjusting to life all over again. But as long as he doesn’t let anything change who he is on the inside, and as long as he has Bok-shil there to remind him to stay grounded, I don’t think we have anything to worry about.

EPISODE 9: “Can’t Smile Without You”

Let’s see that wonderful kiss again, shall we?

Meanwhile, Detective Joo-hyuk questions Jae-sook about Louis, and she tells him that Louis is the heir to Gold Group then asks if he’s really alive. Joo-hyuk confirms that he is.

As they walk home that night, Louis teases Bok-shil by creeping up on her and muttering, “What should I do?” just to get a reaction out of her. That’s hilarious. He asks her to make him ramyun, and sends her inside while he goes on a secret errand.

He wants to get her another orange rose (to symbolize that she’s his first love), but the flower shop is closed. He decides to come back tomorrow, and heads home where Bok-shil is waiting nervously.

Director Baek plans to get the Gold Group shares transferred to him while Grandma is in Seoul, which she’s not contesting, having lost her enthusiasm for the business when Louis disappeared. Jae-sook runs in while he’s meeting with the lawyer, and blurts that she’s found Louis.

Director Baek quickly dismisses the lawyer and asks his wife what she’s going on about. He’s horrified to hear that a detective searched her out, and he looks like he could cry when she says that she told Joo-hyuk about Louis’s connection to Gold Group. He tries frantically to come up with a new plan for getting rid of Louis.

Joo-hyuk looks into Gold Group, and discovers why nobody’s been searching for Louis — he supposedly died in a fiery car crash a month ago. He realizes that Bok-shil brought Louis to him the day after the accident, wearing Bok-nam’s jacket.

Bok-shil grows more and more anxious when Louis doesn’t come home, and calling him only reveals that he left his phone in their shopping bags. In fact he’s almost home, but he’s stopped on the stairs by a trio of suited men, who unceremoniously drag him to a nearby car. He calls for Bok-shil, and she hears his cries, but by the time she gets outside they’ve driven off with Louis.

She goes to In-sung’s place and tells him and his mom that Louis seems to be missing. In-sung wonders if he had another of his headaches and passed out, which worries Bok-shil even more. She runs out to look for Louis, with In-sung right behind her.

She finds the shoe he lost while being bundled into the car, and In-sung notes that it’s still warm from his body heat. He tries to reassure Bok-shil that Louis is probably just playing a prank, but he can’t even manage to convince himself. Bok-shil calls Joong-won to see if Louis is there, but Joong-won is just as worried as they are and heads over.

Bok-shil and In-sung go to the police, where Joo-hyuk tells them they’ve discovered Louis’s identity. They’re gobsmacked to learn that he’s a chaebol heir, and when In-sung mentions hearing that the Gold Group heir died, Joo-hyuk quickly changes the subject, darting worried glances at Bok-shil.

But Bok-shil is a smart cookie, and she asks why Louis was found wearing Bok-nam’s jacket. Joo-hyuk blusters that he could have picked it up somewhere, and In-sung’s excited chirping that he just knew Louis came from a rich family manages to distract Bok-shil.

Director Baek is forced to tell Grandma that Louis is alive, and that he never contacted them because he lost his memory. Grandma demands to see him, and Director Baek says he’s on his way right now. Excited, Grandma tells Jung-ran to make Louis’s favorite food, and sends Butler Kim to prepare his room.

Joong-won comes to support Bok-shil, and In-sung asks him how he didn’t recognize his own boss’s grandson, so he explains that nobody at Gold Group has ever seen Louis’s face. They only knew that he lived overseas and died in an accident after returning to Korea, so he had no reason to suspect anything.

Bok-shil is holding up well, and she says that she’s glad Louis found his family and now only needs to recover his memories. Joong-won watches her as if he suspects she’s not as together as she seems, but he doesn’t say anything. He just grumps that Louis’s going to be even more insufferable now.

As Butler Kim makes Louis’s bed, he thinks that something feels off about Director Baek. But he thinks maybe he was wrong to suspect him, since after all, Director Baek did find Louis and bring him home.

Director Baek calls Ma-ri to come to Grandma’s house, and she freaks out when she hears that Louis is on his way there. Her father says he’ll explain everything later, and Ma-ri flails, scared that Louis will recognize her.

In-sung reports back to his mother about Louis, and they’re both elated to hear that he’s rich. They chatter excitedly about how loyal Louis is and how much he loves to spend money, certain that they’ll soon be benefiting from Louis’s newfound access to unlimited funds.

Butler Kim practically bursts into tears to see Louis alive and well, and he grabs him in a hug, wailing about how much he’s missed him. Louis shrinks away, having no idea who this guy is, but Butler Kim takes it well and says he’ll be back to his old self, the heir to Gold Group, in no time.

This is the first Louis has heard of this, and he reels to hear that he’s the missing Gold Group heir. He mutters that he just knew he used to be rich, and his first instinct is to call Bok-shil and tell her the good news. He remembers leaving his phone behind and asks Butler Kim to take him home so Bok-shil won’t worry, but Butler Kim promises he can call Bok-shil after seeing his grandmother.

Back at home, Bok-shil tosses out the ramyun she made for Louis and finally allows herself to miss him.

The whole family, minus Ma-ri, is gathered to see Louis’s homecoming, and Grandma embraces him gratefully as soon as he walks in. Louis is taken aback, and his head begins to pound as he looks around at all the strange faces. Seeing them triggers a few flashes of memory, but when Ma-ri enters the room, her face entirely hidden by a scarf, he passes out cold.

Jae-sook blames Ma-ri for Louis’s collapse and tries to take off her scarf and sunglasses, but Ma-ri snatches them back, snapping that she has her reasons for wearing them. Louis is taken to his bed, where Grandma hovers over him.

Joong-won goes to see Joo-hyuk at the station, to ask why Louis wasn’t in the car that exploded. Joo-hyuk also wants to know why, and how Louis hurt his head and was found wearing Bok-nam’s clothing, and says he’s looking into it. Joong-won asks him not to say anything about Bok-nam to Bok-shil just yet.

Bok-shil goes to bed alone, missing Louis’s comforting presence beside her. She remembers how he came back to her after going to Joong-won’s house the first time, and his promise to help her find her brother. In the morning everything reminds Bok-shil of Louis, from breakfast, to the soul chair, even the bus stop.

Director Baek storms into the office with a determined expression, looking ready to do battle. But he doesn’t say a word at the shareholders’ meeting, as Grandma announces that Louis has been found. She says that he’ll be learning the business, leaving out his memory loss.

Director Baek goes to Grandma after the meeting, and she tells him that she’s decided to split her shares evenly between him and Louis. She asks him to help Louis, and there’s nothing he can do but agree.

Mr. Lee is still floating after receiving a five-star review from part-timer Louis, and he tells Do-jin that it’s the first compliment anyone has given him in ages. Ma-ri arrives to work in a stormy mood, and she bites Mr. Lee’s head off when he asks for her help with a draft.

Louis wakes to see Butler Kim waiting by his bed, and it’s cute that the first thing he wants to know is if he’s married or has a girlfriend. Butler Kim jokes that he’s forty years old with a wife and three kids in France, scaring Louis half to death, but he finally takes pity and tells Louis the truth.

Relieved, Louis leaps out of bed to run to Bok-shil, but Butler Kim bars his way out. Louis slips by with the “Eek a bug!” trick, but he’s stopped again at the door by Jung-ran brandishing a baseball bat. She politely introduces herself, terrifying Louis, and tells him that he needs to eat before he can go anywhere.

Joong-won takes Bok-shil to the lobby coffee shop, and she pretends to be glad that freeloading Louis is finally off her hands. She asks Louis’s real name, and Joong-won says it’s Kang Ji-sung, but tells her to ask Louis her questions from now on.

Ma-ri spies them talking and wonders why she’s always seeing Joong-won with Bok-shil. Mi-young asks her what’s going on with all the executives in the building today, and Ma-ri smugly tells her to prepare for a surprising announcement.

\

Joo-hyuk visits the site of the car crash, but he already knows that CCTV footage didn’t turn up anything suspicious. He thinks that something must have happened before the accident, and drives the route from the airport to the accident scene, looking for hints.

Back at the station he pulls up CCTV footage from a certain intersection along the route, and sees a motorcycle gang following the car Louis was driving that day (verified by Louis’s notes, where he’d written a license plate number that felt familiar). On the video, Joo-hyuk can clearly see that one of the riders was Bok-nam.

Butler Kim and Jung-ran watch in amazement as Louis eats breakfast, stuffing his face and getting food all over himself. Louis notices the nice dish set, and asks Butler Kim to bag them up for him to take to Bok-shil.

Butler Kim helps Louis suit up, and Louis grabs several suits, ties, and pairs of shoes, asking for those to be packed up as well. He requests enough money to repay Bok-shil for everything she’s spent on him, as well as what he lost.

Jung-ran asks Butler Kim if he’s positive that that’s Louis, worried that he might be a con artist the way he’s taking things and asking for money. Butler Kim placidly says that Louis just lost his memory, and that she shouldn’t let her imagination run wild.

But Jung-ran does exactly that, wondering who this Bok-shil person is. She imagines Bok-shil dressed in leather, cracking a whip and feeding Louis crumbs of bread while forcing him to beg for coins in the street. HAHA, that’s hysterical. Then she imagines Bok-shil sending him to this house and ordering him to come back with money, and as many expensive things as possible.

The real Bok-shil is at work, where In-sung’s mom asks if she’s heard from Louis yet. She’s surprised when Bok-shil says she hasn’t, since she knows how attached Louis is to her, and wonders if he’ll pretend not to know them now that he’s rich.

That worries Bok-shil, but later the Goldline team finds several new reviews on their product site, all from someone posting as “Louis the 25th.” Bok-shil reads the reviews, which seem to send a message: “I want to buy the wild ginseng you found.” “I won’t return it this time.”

They continue, referring to cooking and coffee and even making a reference to Joong-won by saying he’ll buy her nicer appliances than Joong-won did. Then in a message directly to Bok-shil, Louis says he’s doing well and that he’ll see her soon, adding that she should call him oppa now. Heh, he called himself Louis the 25th as a pun on his age, 25 years old, which Bok-shil figures out.

Joo-hyuk finds the owner of a taxi that regularly drives the route Louis took the day of his accident, and obtains the black box footage from the day of the accident. He’s hot on the case, getting closer and closer to learning exactly what happened that night.

Joong-won’s parents let themselves into his house again, and his mom finds a bag of clothing that Bok-shil left behind. She sees Bok-shil’s blue dress inside and screams for her husband, and they both rejoice — it looks like Joong-won is dating someone.

Ma-ri tries to assign Bok-shil to heavily discount an item to meet their sales goals, while Bok-shil points out that it’s not fair to their customers who have already purchased it at a higher price. Ma-ri sweetly asks if she’s talking back, and tells Bok-shil not to think, just obey.

Bok-shil heads home after her awful day, to find the steps outside her apartment newly adorned with a red carpet. She walks up beside the carpet, avoiding stepping on it, and Louis steps out in his suit, looking impossibly handsome and holding a single orange rose. Then he ruins his own romantic image by whining to Bok-shil, “Hey dummy! I rolled it out for you to walk on!”

Startled, Bok-shil scoots over to climb the steps on the carpet, and Louis walks down to meet her. In-sung and his mom pop out to watch, and also Butler Kim and Jung-ran. Okay, this is the best thing ever.

Louis and Bok-shil stop with one landing between them, and Louis opens his arms wide and says, “Come to Oppa.” I love how tickled he is to be her oppa, hee. Grinning madly, Bok-shil runs into his embrace, and Louis spins her around happily.

Louis whispers into Bok-shil’s ear, “What should I do?” and she rears back, knowing exactly what he’s planning to do. But he doesn’t let go of her and gives her a little peck (which makes In-sung and his mom squee in unison), then he goes back in to kiss her deeply. Butler Kim and Jung-ran are moved, and In-sung wonders when the puppy became a lion. Rawr indeed.

In-sung and his mom invite Butler Kim and Jung-ran into their home, where Butler Kim’s cyborg eyes scan In-sung’s old clothes and bare feet. He sizes them up, correctly guessing that In-sung is unemployed and his mom was a young mother.

Louis and Bok-shil go to their place, where Louis flops on the floor, happy to be home. Bok-shil worries about his expensive suit, but she tells him not to change because he looks so handsome. She asks if he wants to take his things back with him, which makes him frown.

Butler Kim is concerned that Louis has been living in such a tiny place, but In-sung’s mom says that Bok-shil’s been taking great care of him. When Jung-ran asks if Bok-shil treats Louis like a slave, In-sung says it’s the other way around — Louis follows her around like a puppy and she gives him food, money, and love.

Louis is upstairs pouting, but Bok-shil tells him that he should live with his family now. He decides she can just move in with him, but she says that they don’t have to live in the same house to be together, and reminds him of his promise to help her find her brother.

Louis promises, and tells her to trust him. He gets a naughty glint in his eye and says, “What should I do?” Okay, he’s getting silly now. Bok-shil backs away, but Louis just scoots across the floor at her, and asks for food.

Later Bok-shil goes through the bags Louis brought, full of fancy dishes and kitchen gadgets. In-sung and his mom also have gifts, and they squeal over the expensive clothes and sunglasses. On the ride home, Louis asks how much these homes cost, and says he wants to buy houses for Bok-shil and In-sung.

When Ma-ri shows up at Joong-won’s door, his parents automatically assume she must be his new girlfriend. Ma-ri is alarmed at their overly-enthusiastic greeting, but she plays along, letting them continue thinking she’s dating their son and even pretending the frumpy blue dress is hers.

She runs into Joong-won on her way out, and they relocate to a coffee shop when she can’t explain why she’s at his house. Ma-ri boldly says that she likes him, but Joong-won says that makes him uncomfortable and he’ll pretend she never said it.

Ma-ri asks him why he likes Bok-shil and not her, but instead of answering, he tells her that you can’t repackage sincere feelings. She flounces out of the shop, and throws away Bok-shil’s bag of clothes in a fit of pique.

Butler Kim overhears Jung-ran calling Director Baek again, gasping when she asks why they have to keep their relationship secret. He imagines the two of them carrying on a torrid affair, and screams in horror. He runs to Jung-ran and begs her to get out of that dangerous relationship and date him instead, and Jung-ran is simultaneously excited and confused.

Louis can’t sleep in his big comfy bed, so he texts Bok-shil to say that he wishes he were sleeping beside her. He complains that his room is too big, and she teases him for bragging. He tells her that he’s rich now, so he’s going to buy her a ring and anything she wants, and Bok-shil replies that he makes her feel safe and protected even when he’s not there. Awww.

When Louis sends her a kissing emoticon, Bok-shil has a fit of shyness and doesn’t answer right away, so Louis calls her. He whines that he can’t sleep, and when she asks what he’s doing tomorrow, he says he wants to see her. Satisfied, Louis finally settles down to sleep.

Joo-hyuk finds that the car’s black box footage shows Bok-nam and Louis, leaning on Louis’s car parked in the road. Film from later that night shows the car pulling away from that same spot, leaving Louis standing on the sidewalk wearing nothing but his boxers and holding Bok-nam’s tracksuit.

At some point that day, Louis and Bok-nam had switched places. Joo-hyuk makes the natural assumption, and concludes that it must have been Bok-nam who died in the crash.

Joo-hyuk finds Bok-shil the next morning, and she asks hopefully if he’s here because they found Bok-nam. He nods, but refrains from telling her details, and he takes her for a drive. Bok-shil chatters excitedly the whole way, but Joo-hyuk just looks sad.

He takes her to a hillside and breaks the bad news — Bok-nam is dead. He tells her that Bok-nam was the one who died in the crash that everyone thought killed Louis. Bok-shil struggles to process this information, while at his house, Louis happily looks forward to seeing her soon.

COMMENTS

First off, I thought the show couldn’t possibly top that wonderful kiss from the last episode, then they went and did it anyway with Louis’s red carpet event for Bok-shil. It was so simple and yet so Louis, just something to prove to Bok-shil that he loves her even without having to say the words. It’s adorable that “What should I do?” has already become code for “Brace yourself, I’m going to kiss you now,” and I love how Louis uses it to fluster Bok-shil. I’d even argue that it’s his way of saying he loves her, and that she knows it.

But that ending worries me, because I’ve been so afraid of the possibility that Bok-nam died in Louis’s place in that fiery explosion. It’s logical to assume that Bok-nam took Louis’s limited edition tracksuit, left him the knockoff, and died in that crash wearing Louis’s clothes and watch. But I think there’s still room to consider that maybe it wasn’t Bok-nam who died that night — maybe one of his motorcycle gang friends took Louis’s clothes and watch, and died in Louis’s place. Could it be possible that Bok-nam’s been in hiding since then, afraid he’ll be in trouble for being involved in the death? I really hope so, and not just because his dying in Louis’s place could drive a wedge between Louis and Bok-shil, but because he’s just a kid and he doesn’t deserve to die in such a horrible way.

At least Louis and Bok-shil’s separation wasn’t overly traumatic, with one or both of them freaking out about being apart. Bok-shil took the news of Louis’s true identity with a lot of grace and poise, and Louis was good about trying not to upset anyone from Gold Group even though he had no clue who they were. I’d just assumed that when Louis found his family, they would object to his relationship with Bok-shil and try to bar him from seeing her, but I’m so glad I was wrong. On the contrary, in some ways the show ramped up the silliness even further (that seduction scene between Director Baek and Jung-ran, OMG), and the separation turned out to be just another obstacle for Louis and Bok-shil to tackle together.

Though it seems like all the puzzle pieces are falling into place neatly, there are still a lot of things about Louis’s situation that just feel off to me. As much as I really want to let myself love Butler Kim, there are times when his expression feels wrong for the situation, as if he’s thinking devious thoughts. I do believe he loves Louis, but I also wonder if there’s more going on beneath his simple-man exterior. And I still think that Director Baek is too ineffectual to be the one who ordered Louis’s death… if in fact, anyone did, and it wasn’t just a tragic accident. Some earlier conversations between Baek and Scarface seemed to have a deeper undercurrent of meaning, though I just can’t put my finger on why I feel that way.

And what’s the significance of the penguin statue? How did Louis hit his head on the fire hydrant right outside his aunt’s bookstore, which is nowhere near the place he was abandoned? There’s more, but the moments are so slight that I wonder if I’m not just being paranoid and that the show really is that simple. I just feel like the attention to detail in the writing — like Louis’s lightsaber and love of coffee turning out to be the clue that caught the killer — are too well-planned for these odd little wrongnesses to be accidents. I won’t be at all surprised if the show blows us away with a huge twist that we haven’t seen coming. I have my suspicions.

Sadly, I think the true separation comes now, with Bok-shil learning (or just believing?) that her brother died in Louis’s place. I hope that she doesn’t blame Louis for the accident or the fact that Bok-nam was in the car, but you never know what a shock like that will do to a person. Bok-nam was Bok-shil’s only family left in the world (well, her blood family) and her entire reason for taking in Louis in the first place. Now that she thinks she knows what happened to him, her original reason for keeping Louis around is gone. I want to believe that Bok-shil loves Louis enough to overcome her devastation at his connection to Bok-nam’s death, though it may take some time before she can disentangle her feelings for Louis from her grief over losing her brother. But the show hasn’t let us down yet when it comes to Louis and Bok-shil’s bond, and I’m choosing to trust that they won’t let this keep them apart for long.

In-sung and Mom.Yea, those two can't be mother and son even if she had him young. They only have a ten year gap in real life, pretty hilarious when you think about it. This show, afterall, has a quirky sense of humor. Gaaah, I was still reeling from the first kiss then they threw in another fab one, I'm in absolute cloud nine!

Seriously, that detective Oppa is so distracting, don't we wish some of the the tall actors would look that hunky and not so slimmed down but not everyone is Taecyeon Oppa, ok, nevermind.

Best Kiss for 2016!
I'd say Seo In Guk wins as the best kisser!
How is this kiss different from reply 1997 and King of High School? Well, in Reply, he does have the hots for EunJi so it came out a lil bit passionate and you feel it right down to your toes. Then in KOHS, he was just really good, and since Noona is a bit older, the kiss was longer. quite memorable, too, how many times did I replay that scene?
and here, it's somewhat sincere, sweet and innocent, too. You'd think you're watching a GP teenage movie of young love, sweet love. Then those two chipmunks up there watching just squealed and summed up our collective reaction. I'm glad that Nam Ji Hyun is receptive enough to let Seo In Guk take the lead in this one, in both kisses there's that something indescribable that we felt, but yea, somebody commented somewhere that yes, we wish our first kiss was something like that, or that's how the first kiss should be. (sigh)
This would be the No.1 kiss for 2016
The others which are also good and gave me the feels are
Moonlight kiss (Bo Gum and KYJ) -cute and sweet
Ghost Kiss (Taecyeon and KSH) - aherm,
Grab Kiss (Ryu Jun Yeol and HJE) - it's RJY!
Dream Kiss (Bo Gum and Hye Ri)
the thing with Bogummie, just one sweet kiss is enough, the second kiss in Reply was just a little bit awkward to watch, aish. sorry, am picky like that.

There were a lot of Kiss scene in W but am not feeling it, I remain passive watching it, same with DOTS. Another OHY kiss? nah, not buying it.

my favorite scene from this episode: the imaginary scene with Uncle and Personal assistant in Cyborg Kims´ imagination. His cyborg vision doesnt seem to reach inside a womans´ heart....

that scene on the stair, my heart is not large enough to contain all the emotions! what should I do? WHAT SHOULD I DO?

He really is the opposite of Louis isn't he? He's all precision and logic and filter with little ability to penetrate the heart. Louis is messy and impulsive and zero filter. And sees into the heart easily. So cute those two.

What a wonderful recap Lollypip. I really love that you took into account those light saber and detail of the footprint...That really gives us a glimpse of the writer's mind ..doesn't it. Anyway ep 8 had some total laugh out loud moments when the manager got those star crazed review from Louis..I had to suppress myself from laughing out waking everyone up at home omg. And Louis has this spontaneity of getting comfortable at making anyone his maid.
I do miss the fact that the cohabitation has run its course..but at the same time I can't wait to see some transformation in Louis's behavior..maybe we'd get to see him all grown up..who knows..And I do love misunderstandings ..as they give us a reason for the push and pull and angst..
And now that there's the ridiculous scene of butler Kim's gf's imaginary liaison ....it's possible that the way show had been making us see different perspectives...so the detective might have also assumed the scene...and doesn't know the whole picture. I'm also wondering who planned Louis's accident..and why. But hopefully we're in for more songs and funny tropes.

And the hilarious way the President's wife keeps innocently ruining his plans.

And hanging the lantern on his (emotional) Cinderella arc by having him leave a shoe behind.

And SIG's facial expressions when he was getting all those hugs from his family. LOL

And I don't know why exactly, but that red carpet scene took my breath away.

If I had to think of the biggest twistiest twist they could possibly spring on us, president's wife would be the evil mastermind. I don't believe it, but it would be such a neat rabbit to pull out of the had that I hyave to at least mention the (im)possibility.
Since she keeps messing up hubby's plan, it out have to be a plot aimed at discrediting him.
Motive: why, the affair between her hubby and Jung-ran, of course :)

What if she actually knew Louie's parents and had been keeping a grudge about it? What if the death of Louie's parents have more meaning than we take it for now...

Oooh. If there's meta built into his character, Butler Kim's parallel to Bidam's evil right hand man would support Lolypip's suspicions.

I couldn't see it coming from what they've shown us so far about Butler Kim. He's the one who is always suspecting others in order to protect Louis. But the blind twist trope is one they haven't used yet.

I decided to check this drama out for Nam Ji-Hyun and I'm glad I did. She's grown a lot and I still love her just as much as I did back then in her sageuk days. (QSD, King Sejong, Warrior Baek Dong Soo).

I seriously watch lots of Sageuk and usually I'm not fond of the child actors part in Sageuk drama but NJH portrayal of Deokman in QSD moved me. It was the first time I was affected by a child actor.

But anyway back to the drama, not just because Butler Kim always play evil in other drama but I do find him suspicious in ep 7 where he is reporting to someone about Louie. What was that? I don't think it was someone random they make up for his character. Grandma is out of the picture because of his way of talking.

Does Mr. Baek actually give order to kill louie? Maybe he just order some gang to beat up Louie. Or maybe I'm thinking too much.

me too, I am so nervous I even dreamt about it, but considering just HOW hilarious the rest of the drama is, it cannot possibly hurt our kittens, can it? I mean, it would be such a different vibe with that.

The red carpet scene... can we please appreciate the audience they had there for a second? The way In-sung and mom were shrieking, mom peaking through her fingers, Butler Kim looking like a proud parent and Jung-ran saying "what a lucky girl" - yup, that was all me. ???
And excuse my language but how fu***** sexy did SIG look there. Rawr.
So now joining 15 plus alpha will be "na eotteokhaji". ?
Excuse me while I go replay the scene for the millionth time.

Btw these characters have the best imagination evaaaa. That 50 shades reference rofl.

And I still have hope Bok-nam isn't dead (what were they doing on the side of the road for 3h anyway?), it would just be too cruel to have Bok-shil lose her last family member and it would also always overshadow the relationship. And Detective Nam, you're a hottie but what's up with pronouncing Bok-nam dead when you don't have any hard evidence, those video footages definitely don't count.

No, Scarface has already done a DNA test with the dead person's blood on the watch and Louis's tooth and determined that way that Louis did not die in the accident.

Now we need to do a DNA test of Bok Shil to see if the dead guy was in fact her brother.

DNA tests are not that easy unless you have the money for it like Chairman Baek. The cop needs solid evidence to submit to get a go at testing. It's too costly for them. Right now all the evidence points out to Bok Nam being the one who died in that accident. Not to mention the case was already closed, it has no priority to the department any more, Nam Joo-hyuk is doing this on his own and for BS only.

Required fields are marked *

But I don't get that. Let's look at that theory that he died.

If someone in Louis' family deliberately targeted Bok Nam, then yes, anger and emotional distance would be an appropriate response. But if Louis was also a victim, then an emotional barrier would make no sense at all.

It might not be as nefarious as it seems. Like, say, the President's plan was simply to give Louis' a scare in order to trigger his grandmother's fear that he might die if he was close to her. And his only aim was to get him shipped back to France permanently. His henchmen hired the street gang to rob Louis and steal his car, but then they got into an unforeseen accident. After being left mostly nekkid by the side of the road, Louis puts on the track suit he was given and navigates his way to the one place in Korea that he's familiar with -- the bookstore -- and has an accident. His watch was in the front seat after it was stolen and was found after the accident. Bok Nam, rationalized that he would just "trade" his tracksuit for the one in Louis' suitcase, but after the accident he got scared and went into hiding. After a period of misunderstanding that he's dead, he'll be discovered when someone posts a picture of him in the #1 tracksuit.

That's not very interesting, but something like that.

Let's hope BokShil turns to Louis and helps him solve the mystery. And that the show was just trolling us with the voiceover at the beginning.

Goodness, my jaw hurts from smiling every time I watch an episode of this show. Louis' innocence and pureness of heart just gets me every time. When he finds out that he is a chaebol, he said, "I had a hunch I was rich before," but without sounding boastful (which is to SIG's credit), and the first he thought of was Bok Shil! And the song, Barry Manilow's song had me smiling ear to ear, because it was so fitting for that brief separation. And all the side characters, 5-stars office guy, Oska, the detective doing his best to help Bok Shil, and even the "villains" I like watching. I love this show so much I hope it continues to give us these warm and fuzzy feels until the end, even if some angst is looming on the horizon.

I am almost certain that Bok-Sil’s brother is alive and in hiding. I am also pretty certain that I am going to need to send the writer a letter of apology for previously calling the script mediocre.

This drama seems to be trying to make all of the main characters redeemable. It has been a commonly held belief that evil CEO planned Louis’s car accident. That his henchman, Scarface, was planning to murder Louis. And that Scarface’s timely attacked, by the neighborhood serial killer, had saved Louis’s life. Why had Scarface waited so long to kill Louis? He had been watching the rooftop apartment for weeks. There must have been numerous opportunities. May be because he was never supposed to kill him. Evil CEO never actually needed Louis dead. Prior to the accident, his plan was to have Ma-Ri marry Louis. The accident was just fortune smiling down on him. Even when he discovered Louis was alive, he did not have to resort to murder. Once Grandma signed over her company shares, he would have control and both Louis and Grandma would become irrelevant. Evil CEO has done bad things, but to the best of our knowledge he has not committed a single felony.

Bok-Sil’s brother became involved with a motorcycle gang upon arriving in Seoul. The detective found video evidence that he was present around the time Louis was carjacked and left at the side of the road. Someone drove off in Louis’s car and was subsequently killed by a truck. The collision was presented as if it was deliberate. Therefore, Bok-Sil’s brother was the carjacker and was killed as he drove off. However, we are talking about Bok-Sil’s brother here. She is saving total strangers and he is committing felonies. It is much more likely that he was present, but not a willing participant. He probably even helped Louis somehow. Which would explain why he had gone into hiding. He had angered the gang leader. The gang leader was the one who had driven off in Louis’s car. Being a motorcycle gang leader can be a dangerous occupation. May be he was the intended victim all along. A rival had observed him driving off and called in the hit. In the “accident”, his body was so severely burnt that identification was impossible. Louis’s watch made it seem like he was the victim.

At this point you are rolling your eyes and laughing at me. However, the writer has already used a neighborhood serial killer to protect Louis from the evil CEO’s henchman. Compared to that is this theory really that crazy?

I'm not laughing at you at all! I believe that your theory makes perfect sense. Actually, the man who died in the car was wearing one of those Louis Satton's tracksuits. Louie was wearing a suit while driving, and Bok Nam take off his and left it with Louie. There is a slight possibility that Bok Nam has found Louie's original tracksuit in his luggage, but it's not logical. I think that someone else wearing a fake tracksuit stole Louie's car and clothes and Bok Nam helped him by giving him his own fake tracksuit and now he's hiding. I think that the writer made a point of the fake tracksuits at the beginning of the drama for this reason and also, I'm convinced that Loie's gonna fullfill his promise and find Bok Nam.

I agreed with some points from your comments..

"It’s logical to assume that Bok-nam took Louis’s limited edition tracksuit, "

In my opinion..It wasn't a tracksuit that louis was wearing on that day (before n after the accident) but it was a suit..and the scene which bok nam died with louis tracksuit ..it was only the detective thought or theory...maybe 80% or 90% the guy died ..wasn't louis ..or maybe i was wrong...hehe

Required fields are marked *

Not crazy at all. I initially came to the same conclusion as the Detective, but when I thought about it, there's a lot of time and pieces missing that could easily lead to Bok Nam being alive. Hours must have passed between Louis talking to BN and being left on the side of the road. What happened during that time?

I'm also not convinced the CEO planned the car accident. He's obviously not very smart, but still, you'd think if he was planning for Louis to meet the truck of doom, he'd have had someone following Louis so the truck of doom would be in the right place at the right time. That doesn't appear to be the case and obviously Louis was waylaid.

In some shows, I might think the writing doesn't add up, but I remember some wondering why Scarface was crouching when he got whacked, and lo and behold, we got an explanation for it.

Yes, yes Aranea, thanks for this. I'm with you and the others here, and I hope we're all right doubting what seems to be be the inevitable truth. I just can't buy that Boknam is gone and is indeed hiding. Even with a preview from episode 10 that seems to support the scenario left us with.
I've suddenly lost some of my confidence in the police here. Yes, I agree who does this, without DNA, springing an announcement to someone desperately seeking their list relative by taking them to a cemetery? Would it have been so hard to tell her about Boknam on the stairs? Face palm. Then palm on his face! That was so insensitive.

Here's hoping show, that you have this surprise that turns this all around. This has been such a sweet, silly yet touching ride to let this sad truth become the focus of nearly half of the drama that's left.

Unrelated, the way the ratings keep moving up is fantastic. Even went ahead of JI at one point (which I believe is starting to suffer a bit from the extension)

I sincerely doubt that when Bok-Nam first became associated with the motorcycle gang, he was presented with a mission statement that completely outlined the legal and illegal activities of the gang. It is a safe bet that he knew that they committed misdemeanors, but carjacking is a felony. In the real world young kids get themselves into serious trouble all the time by just being present when a "friend" commits a serious crime.

That you do not support my theory is fine. We can just agree to disagree. However, referencing the previews for the next episode is uncalled for. If your assertion can not stand based on the information presented in the current episode, then you should reconsider making it. Please read the DB commenting policy. No, your statement probably did not violate that policy, but it is much better to be safe than sorry.

One last point, contrary to what CSI would have you believe DNA tests are not done during every investigation. The body was completely destroyed by the fire. The evil CEO had the blood on the watch tested in secret so Grandma did not find out Louis may still be alive. Someone must have been bribed to do the testing and hide the results. Even if Bok-Nam is still alive, the detective still did the best job he could given the situation. The detective has demonstrated on several occasions, that he is dedicated, competent and hard working.

The absolute best part, is that within the next 7 episodes, we will know exactly what happened. Hopefully having been surprised and entertained along the way.

Aranea,
Thanks for the heads up about the preview, wasn't aware of the spoiler implications. And I think you misunderstood my comment, as I AGREE with you and some of the other responding to your post. While siblings can be different, I also highly doubt a young man raised along with Bok-Shil...and probably nurtured/raised by Bok-Shil herself...would be actively pursuing serious crime.
Also, I also love the detective and feel he is hardworking and dedicated, as well as having real concern for both both Bok-Shil and Louis (love how he volunteers to be Louis' reference in the previous episodes). The video footage suggests to him that this must be the case, that Boknam died in place of Louis. Perhaps I'm just projecting my perspective as a viewer that can hope against hope that he is not dead, and look at the backstory and family Bokham came from and do everything.
Anyway, enjoy your perspectives.

Unlike LollyPip, I have total and complete faith in Butler Kim who loves and treats Louis as his own son. So nothing nefarious from his corner. Right now we have Director Baek as the ineffectual villain, but with 7 more episodes to go, I wonder what more twists and turns this drama will take us on.

I do hope the separation between Bok Shil and Louis doesn't take too long (the previews are scary. Angst has arrived) and that Louis regains his memory as he feels lost without it even though he's gotten his identity back.

I completely agree. This show is so wonderful and heartwarming. Even though it's so sweet and fluffy, it also has unexpected substance and depth because it's sort of a "bildungsroman" about two sheltered young people who go into the big city, get scammed, get taken advantage of, get bullied, but through the process grow mature and find themselves.

And the two leads are so great. I honestly wish other A list stars would be willing to challenge themselves more instead of playing boring "cool and handsome" characters all the time. Would Kim Soo Hyun or Lee Min Ho be willing to play a helpless bum guy with ketchup all over his face? No, they're probably too worried about "image" to do that.

But KSH played Samdong in Dream High with that ridiculous wig and wearing flour sacks. And LMH's ridiculous curly hair in BOF. Why wouldn't they want to play characters ruining their "images" if they are the right ones to play? After all, they are actors.

Required fields are marked *

True, but still I don't think anyone can conclude what types of characters an A list actor would or would not play simply based on the limited number of dramas they starred in since becoming an A list actor.

As for KSH, his role as the North Korean spy masquerating as a neighborhood fool in Covertly Grandly was pretty "image-ruining". He was an A list actor then and he looked pretty ridiculous with a bra on and taking a dump in front of his love interest.

0

@ O_o I can and do conclude that. A-list Hallyu type actors aren't willing to challenge themselves with these types of roles.
The roles they take after becoming popular are boring and repetitive.

0

@O_o KSH did play a goofy, puppyish character in Producers, which was after My Love From the Star, etc..

But, Covertly Grandly (or Secretly Greatly on some sites) is a perfect example of an actor putting the needs of the role before his personal dignity. LOL. He was a pleasure to watch even if I cringed through one half and cried through the next.

P.s.- That movie KILLED me. I was not prepared. At. All.

0

And yet the fact that SIG is willing and able to pull off these not so "cool and handsome" characters makes him so much more cool and handsome in my eyes.

No one else would've been able to pull off Louis like he does. I saw a making film of the ep when they went to the Busan and Louis had a mental collapse in the sand. The little touches of BS gently dusting sand off his face and Louis pulling her back into a tighter embrace after BS hugged him were all at the suggestions of SIG. That made an impression on me because those parts were what made the scenes so moving to me when I first watched them.

The fact that I wanted to reach into the television to strangle him when he kept spending money that wasn't his, or getting in trouble for being clueless made me realize what a great actor he is. The fact that it was so easy for me to see him as Louis the clueless fool and believe that is who he was is really impressive.

0

I do terribly admire his drama choices too. He was a legitimate hit post Reply 1997 and he could have easily took on boring and repetitive characters at that point. But no, he goes in and dives for roles with LEAST flower boy appeal, even endured low ratings all throughout. Only after he had established himself as a legitimate actor (Hello Monster, Squad38) had he taken on a somewhat flower boy role like Louie, and yet he deconstructs the character so much that Louie isn't flower boy at all. He always renders depth to the characters he plays and I actually became I fan because of that. At this point it's fascinating to me that some viewers still find Louie charming because I can swear Louie isn't my personal type (too puppy), and yet I actually let myself swoon when he delivers smooth-operator lines to Bok Sil, like "No, I'm talking about how happy I am to be alone with you."

Ok. For a guy so puppy, that was totally swoony.

0

May be the penguin is not associated with a bad memory, but rather a fated love. Louis lived in Korea before his parents died. Bok-Sil has always lived in Korea. May be Louis and Bok-Sil met as children and the penguin is proof of that meeting? Grandma is a very strong believer in fate. She had Louis live in France because she believed it was dangerous for him to live near her. What if Grandma does not approve of Bok-Sil? The penguin could be the proof that they are destined to be together. It could actually be the penguin of love. Remember penguins mate for life!

Required fields are marked *

You're very creative! Your plot suggestions are really interesting. I do agree that the penguin is more likely to be associated with a good memory. That young Louie took to writing "Koboshi" or the dog name on it has to mean it was special. But why did the drama feature it in such a way? And why was Butler Kim seemingly looking for it???

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Here are a few things to consider:

- The writer has made it very clear, Louis is a bad speller.
- Is it possible "koboshi" is misspelled?
- Was the dog's name original?
- Was the dog named to remember someone important?
- This writer misleads by omitting key facts.
- All of the key players are already in the game.

Only the last point, hopefully, requires an explanation. Some comments suggest that there is someone pulling the strings from behind the scenes. This very well may be the case, but I believe that the writer would not introduce a new character this late into the drama. That only happens in very, very bad murder mysteries. I do not believe this writer would use such a cheap trick. If there is an evil master mind, we have already met them and I personally have been completely fooled.

Yes I believe it was, at precisely the 41:26 mark of episode 6. It was fairly quick and I think it looked more like a fancier version of the thinking chair but it was totally similar. Am I reading too much into this or is the writer mocking our sense of detail?

@redfox, re: penguin. For real?! Ommo... for some reason this reminds me of one of Batman's enemies, and Dark Knight is coincidentally a movie approved by SIG himself. LOL. I have no idea why I think there's a connection, but yeah.

Precisely at the beginning of the drama, in the middle, and at the end, I was like NOOO!!!, YESSS!!!, and BIG NOOO!!! You writer nim, don't you dare separating my precious cutie couple I swearrr!!!

Gosh, my head was also spinning and it hurts so much. I must be out of my mind that I CRIED (for half an hour!) at that scene where Louis's shoe fell off just when he was dragged onto the car.

But then the red carpet scene was a total swoon worthy moment that I'd give all my money for it. Seo In Guk looks gorgeous as hell standing right there in perfect suit, perfect setting, and one perfect single orange rose. When Bok Sil leaped into his arms, I cried. When they kissed, I died. Gawd! This drama sells this two adorbs OTP and freaking beautiful scenes like a con artist!

Oh lord, I need to rest and prepare my heart and soul for next week. Louis-ya, my heart aches so much just to see that tears on your face. Sobs.

Louis's other declaration of love. I consider the gifts that Louis brought his new family a unique declaration of his love for them. If we consider Louis at the start of the drama, he purchased only very special items and then he jealously guarded them. His possessions were the things that he treasured most. The post-accident Louis has a very different value system. He is going through his uber valuable possessions and finding the items good enough to give his new found family. He is sharing and thinking about others before himself. They are his new treasures.

I love this comment!!! You are so right! Louis has changed from when he was a chaebol especially in the way he considers his items. Even though he had friends in Paris, I believe he mentioned that the only people that contacted him were people that wanted something from him and were not sincere so his reliance were on materialistic things that won't take advantage of him. Now that he has found a newfound sincere family outside of his blood family, materialistic things are the last thing on his mind! Love Louis even more for this!!!

Actually Louis refers to the things he buys as this kid or this guy a lot and talk to them as if they are animate beings. To him, they are like his best friends. For him, giving product reviews and people reviews are not that different. So it's more like he's introducing one set of his best friends to another set of best friends.

Bad news for Oska fans, but I suspect that Ma-Ri and Oska are going to end up together. It fits too nicely with the fairy tail theme of the drama. Oska's parents desperately want him to get married. Ma-Ri's mother and Oska's mother have already met and are perfectly matched. Ma-Ri's redemption would involve helping Oska (i.e. Louis's team) win against her father. The evil CEO would be "punished" for life by having to live with a nice wife, nice daughter, nice son-in-law and nice in-laws. It would be poetic justice.

I believe that if you have watched episode 5, then you have already seen Ma-Ri truly in love. The bar scene says it all. Oska has passed out from his one drink and asleep on the bar. Ma-Ri is glued to his side. It is obvious that she would rather be with an unconscious Oska than anyone else. She has such an adoring look on her face when she lays her head down and looks over at Oska. The girl is in love.

What a cute couple indeed!! I was squaeling through the episode for Bok Shil and Louie!!

What if... Bok Nam and Mr Kim actually a team? Was just wondering maybe Mr Kim smelled something wrong thus was asking Bok Nam or duh... not so good at guessing or creating story line. But the preview though
....... Louie's cries seems sorrowful. I just can't handle it.

I trully hope that Bok Nam is still alive, he has to be alive for the sake of Bok Shil and Louie.

Mr. Baek's wife though! She is so inncocent and cute! Love this show so much, certainly will leave a big big whole when its end and will miss Seo In Guk so much! Duh! Cutie puppy Louie, I want one too!

That's what I was thinking. He definitely seems a little shady, but not necessarily evil, and the whole "there are no more seats to accompany you" (on the flight back to Seoul) thing felt a bit contrived. At first I was afraid Louis was heading for some massive betrayal with Butler Kim but now I'm hoping it's an odd plan gone awry. Also agree CEO baek seems pretty milquetoast as a villain.if he didn't have a problem orchestrating a truck to kill Louis, why not just order him killed at bok shil's apartment immediately? He kind of had scarface scope them out at first, right? OTOH, what *was* his plan in letting Louis drive himself home? Luckily, these questions are not why I watch this show. : ) SIG all the way!!

Required fields are marked *

Omo! That is totally interesting. But the timing would have been off. Grandma WAS sick then and wouldn't it be too much for Butler Kim to plot a free-Louie game plan at such a time?

But it's true that the whole "only one seat is left" plot is fishy.... Gaaaah Butler Kim, please don't be evil.

How has a romcom so deviously turned on the viewer such that we can't even predict the possible turn-outs of its conflicts and mysteries, especially since it was supposedly built on cliches? Shouldn't we be more clue-full by now????

Okay so I am back from office with ample time to gush about how adorable this episode was. I started smiling right from the first scene! Things I loved:

1. Louie using "Na ottokhaji" to tease Bok Shil

2. Did he just drop his shoes like Cinderella? Such a role reversal. This show definitely takes after fairytales.

3. The way he stepped out of the car once they reached grandmom's house- did anyone notice? The curve of his socks-clad feet would give any actress a run for their money :P I was just waiting for him to do sth like put his hair behind his ear or do a lil more aaegyo and he would have been the perfect girl :D

4. Ma Ri was so funny at the start of this episode! And coming to the house like a bandit was hilarious!

5. The way everything reminded Bok Shil of Louie was pure love right there. My heart really felt for her.

6. Louie was so cute in asking ppl to pack any and every pretty thing he saw for his new family

7. Oh the power of imagination! Butler Kim and Jung ran are so funny!

8. Louie the 25th.. hehhehe :P

9. "Come to oppa" scene. Basically this scene was purrrrfect!

10. Bok Shil and Louie's late night texting and calls. They are just so so adorable.

Seems like the next episode is going to be a lil angsty but I trust the writers to put in some laughs and cuteness to balance everything out! 9 perfect episodes, the show shouldn't go wrong now.

And no, I don't think Bok Nam is dead. Maybe he is just in hiding. Otherwise why would he have given his clothes to Louie- that wouldn't make sense for a thief or even for a murderer.

Wednesday, please come soon.

For me, the one that rode in the car is NOT Boknam. You can see Louis nacked, without Boknam clothes in his hands or anything... I think Bok Nam gave Louis his clothes after the car was gone. Yeah, I know there could be other explanations (the clothes in the nearby floor, for example) but Boknam being Bokshil brother and with a naked person that was probably beaten or robbed already, probably by his own friends ...

TWO KISSES (disregarding that it was a rerun kiss since it still made my heart flip hehe plus a couple pecks for that second one ;)) IN ONE EPISODE??? Thank you SKL production. You are making it worth waiting *joins Insung and ajumma behind the stairs*

It’s a shame that they were separated for a few days but I have to say, I was really surprised that I didn’t skip over the flashback scenes like I normally do. Unlike most dramas where they just put one old scene after the other, the flashbacks were so well incorporated into the episode making it really sweet moments instead of filler scenes.

I love how BokShil and Louis' relationship is really founded on trust so BokShil, while worried, doesn't have anxiety in thinking that Louis has ever abandoned her and we can really see Louis thinking of BokShil in every waking moment.

First question asked after waking up from fainting: Am I married or have children?? LOL such a big priority heheehe and .... CALL ME OPPA! Of course SIG you are always our oppa *gushes* Louis 25th LOL afejlsgdbg;skabfjsksbdh

I'm curious why does Insung and his mom are not surprised at Louie and Boksil being a couple?

Yes they squeal at their kiss but rather than surprised that they are kissing, they are more fangirling (like us) about the kiss itself LOL

Bok Shih seems like she would leave Louis becos she thought her bro died becos of him but maybe as what the other comments above, we only see not the whole picture of what had actually happened but only saw the head n tail of the car accident, but we still not sure whether it was Bok Nam who was in the car just before the accident happened.

I wondered why did Bok Shih left her favourite dress behind at Joong Won's house. Wasn't that the dress her mum left for her ? I hate it when Mari just tossed the bag of clothes into the trash bin cos her love confession to Joong Won was rejected.

I could also see Louis doing the same thing for Bok-Shil if he found out. He might think that it was too painful for her to see him. Of course, when he finds out the whole circumstances, he may just put all of his many resources to work trying to find out what really happened.

This episode gave me all kinds of feels. Who knew that a simple question of - what should I do - could get your toes to curl and anticipate a kiss? And a sweet sweet kiss at that. For some reason, maybe because I’m watching a kdrama, I seem to be anticipating an angsty conflict, or when Louis questions whether the brewing storm will make them cry, I feel like we’re in for it. But I am reminded again that this show’s basis is sweet and light hearted. I like that Louis is introduced to his old life without gaining his full memory back, and it’s so sweet that the first thing he thinks about is his new people. That red carpet scene followed by a kiss is so heartwarming. But towards the end of the episode, my heart goes out to Bok Sil.. and even Louis. Bok Sil at first because her hope of finding her brother gets crushed when she finds out he’s actually dead all along.. and in Louis’ place. While Louis has promised to help her find her brother, not even realizing that her brother died in his place, so to speak. I wonder what kind of guilt or even feeling would Louis go through? We’ve established that Bok Sil and Louis have come to naturally love each other, but it makes me a little scared now that we’re presented with this issue, even though we know it’s a possible reality from the get go. It still hurts when we get there. I squeal, and then I just want to cry.

It's Detective Nam Joon Hyeok, not Joo Hyeok, isn't it? Why is he being called a wrong name here?

That said, the writer is utilizing so many names not only from different dramas but also the real life names of the people behind this drama. Did you notice that Cha Joong Won's best friend with whose mom his mom went to buy plums was Sang Yeop? That is the name of the PD of the drama. Also, Butler Kim's name is Kim Ho Joon, and it seems like the director of the drama is Kim Ho Joon as well. We also had "Reporter Park Jeong Do" reporting from in front of their rooftop house.

That first kiss was everything. The way he held her hand and leaned in... It was utter perfection! That second kiss was pure fire! That was hot! Rawr Louis! I loved the red carpet too. That was just too sweet and totally all Louis. I love how he loves Bok Shil!

These two are my favorite couple in dramaland right now. I seriously can't get enough of them. And it's not like the have this amazingly blazing hot romance. It's simple but loving. They share everything and don't hide what they feel. That is perfect.

I loved how when Louis found his family his first thought was Bok Shil. He always puts her first! When Bok Shil and her co-workers were reading those reviews, I knew Louis was letting Bok Shil know in his own way that he was alright.

And I really hope that Bok Nam isn't dead. Bok Shil has lost so much already and even though she remains upbeat and happy, I know this will hurt because then she will truly be alone in the world. I think there is more to this accident then we know so I am going to wait to see because this show loves to surprise me. I'm not happy about this angst that seems to be on the horizon though! I had a thought about Butler Kim's sometimes suspicious actions, Louis seemingly attempted murder, the penguin box, and the possible connections. So, I had these thoughts.

1. Louis' parents supposedly died in a car accident right? What if it wasn't an accident?
2. Louis had a penguin box when he was a kid. He hid it in the floor, and Butler Kim later looked for it. What is the connection? Some evidence of a crime, perhaps?
3. Maybe Butler Kim isn't just just a Butler but a bodyguard.
4. Both of the Baek's seem to be too ineffectual to be the real bad guys. Are they red herrings?
5. Are there forces yet unseen, both good and bad?

Some of this seems like it would be really far fetched, especially given the mostly fluffy tone of the writing. That being said, the writer has been very clever so far. What if all the fluffing ss is just the surface layer, hiding what has been underneath? I've loved the drama so far. I'm not sure I would want my suspicions to be true.....unless the overall feel of the drama continues to be the same, our characters remain true to themselves and each other regardless of what happens.

LOL, this is turning out to be more complex than I Remember You. Isn't it supposed to be a fluffy rom-com about shopping?

The thing I was most amazed by so far was the footprint in the coffee powder leading to the arrest of the serial killer. The writer had to do some major setup to have that all come together, including Louis's love of Maxim Gold, him using a lightsaber for protection, him not being able to bend down because of working one day of hard labor, and him not being the sharpest tool in the shed and only laying down the lightsaber after knocking over two cups. Extremely clever and creative, plus it was all funny. I hope the writer still has a few more of these scenarios up her sleeve to explain all the mysteries you and others have listed.

I was amazed by the creativity the writer wrote in leading to the finding out the identity of the serial killer n arresting him via the coffee mixture. Haha. I don't think that there would be so many dark twist hidden in this rom-com. This is afterall not another "I Remember You" drama.

I know, right. This is just increasing my enjoyment of the drama even more. It's one thing for a writer to be clever, but it's a whole other level when you don't realize just how clever until the second half of the drama!

"LOL, this is turning out to be more complex than I Remember You. Isn’t it supposed to be a fluffy rom-com about shopping?"

Hahaha exactly what I was thinking. This writer is taking the referencing to a whole new level---- even tapping into the I Remember You complexity. I love it.

If you ask me, this is THE best use of plot-PPL ever. Maxim Gold has got to pay the drama more gold--- stuff like: "Drink Maxim Gold, it solves your neighborhood mystery crimes." Who needs security cameras when you've got Maxim Gold???

P.S. I just saw this Korean Film "My Ordinary Love Story", which started off as a very legitimately funny rom-com, so I was absolutely dumbfounded (and turned bonafide fanatic) by its ending, when it so smoothly took a turn towards the noir genre (I swear I recommend this film to IRY fans. It's a must see.). Anyhow, I'm wondering whether SKL might take a page from that movie...

Anybody else notice how Bok Shil's hair keeps changing colour depending on the scene? I'm guessing this just has to do with editing and when what scenes were shot but it still makes me giggle every time I see it. At least I can laugh at it rather than be annoyed by it. Such is the nature of this show.

Loved Jung-ran threatening Louie with the baseball bat. Where's his lightsaber when he needs it?

So Louie was driving along when he heard Bok-nam's jacket calling out "Louie-a, I may be cheap counterfeit crap but I'm the only way you'll ever meet your one true love" ? :) There are other theories posted above that make more sense, but I like this one anyway.

ok so I had time to think here at front desk while my group was digging out the axe and the cat.

There is, indeed, as some have mentioned, a gap between the events witnessed on the video. we do not know if the detective knows more than us or not.

I think what will come to play is Louis´s PROMISE to Bok Shil. "Trust me!", he said. and he is not a conman here. He also helped catch a killer. He promised to return Bok Shil her money. He did. He has delivered all his promises and in the end I think he will get his memory back and find Bok Nam just like he keeps saying. Maybe it is that jacket no. 1 that is the clue.

how did Louis end up on the stairs? he doesnt seem to remember that either, although it was after he hit his head. it might have been that after the gang beat him and took his car, Bok Nam pitied him and took him there after making sure the crime still isnt discovered thus changing the very easily recognisable clothes with his which is worn by a thousand men. would he have been that smart? dunno. I see this as more possible at least thn Bok Nam living in Louis´ mansion as has also been suggested. Wouldnt the staff let Granny know?

the childhood. Koboshi, penguin, parents. the box under the floor. whats in there>? what did Louis hide? I am really curious about that.

this drama is so much more than anyone expected - except me, I did say I am sure if SIG picked it is is more than just a story of a shopaholic.

but it will still be difficult to watch the angsty episodes. they dont feel unecessary, but perhaps we could have spared our kittens from the pain, while getting the full blow ourselves cause we know what they dont. Detective, why? Could you not have waited?

but yeah, after I have gotten over the nervous breakdown and analyzed it a bit, the condition in which we found Louis and where cannot be explained without someone playing a hand. someone who is not the uncle nor Cyborg Kim.

Doesn't the penguin music box simply commemorate the 30th anniversary of Grandma's company? So not unusual he'd consider it among his treasures, since his parents likely gave it to him. And logical that his Aunt would have one too.

Along the lines of Lolypip's comments about the continuity of small moments within the show, there's this from Episode 1:
"She blames the documentary for making Bok-nam want to leave the mountain, but her digging companions assure her that he’s a survivor."

but he hid another one of those music boxes in his treasure chest for some reason. maybe there was a note or maybe there is something inside? He also wrote Koboshi on it, maybe that´s the only importance, he will see it and connect and remember something about "koboshi"?

Yes. And the emphasis on Young Louie being the only person to know what "Koboshi" means. Isn't it slightly annoying that we know there's a clue there somewhere, but unlike a book, we can't flip through pages to check out what it's possibly about??? WEDNESDAY COME PALLI!

Haha! Yes yes me too! Which is majorly how I discovered DB, and soompi. But DB is still my favorite spoilerland----the recaps are all I need, except when I'm live watching as in now and it just sucks. In which case, the comments overrule my world.

This is what we know so far about that fateful event involving Louis and BN on September 19, 2016:

1. at 17:20 - Louis's car pulled over (either voluntarily or involuntarily) because of a gang of motorcyclists at some point between the airport and his grandmother's house where everyone was waiting to throw him a welcome home party.
2. at 18:15 - Louis is seen still in the suit he was wearing during his travel from France to Korea, talking with BN behind the car he was driving (same license plate number). They seem like they are chilling rather than one is threatening the other.
3. at 21:03 - Louis is in his underwear and has what appears to be BN's knockoff Louis Ssaton tracksuit in his hand and a car is driving away but the license number cannot be identified and it may or may not be the car he was driving. For all we know, it could have been a totally unrelated car just ignoring Louis's call for help and driving away.
4. Louis was attacked by a gang of motorcyclists while it was still light outside and hit his head against a fire hydrant (so this may have happened between events 2 and 3 above).
5. Someone died inside the car Louis was driving wearing his watch. Nobody knows what s/he was wearing because the corpse pretty much was incinerated except his/her blood on the watch, which was thrown outside the car at the time of explosion.
6. morning of 9/20/16 - Wearing BN's fake tracksuit, Louis ended up on the stairs of a train station where BS found him and took him to the police station.

Also consider the fact that BN was a high schooler who ran away from home in some boondocks deep in the mountains where they don't even have running electricity. He was always riding in the backseat of a motorcycle rather than driving one. I highly doubt he had a driver license to drive a car. Moreover, BN definitely was not the leader of the gang and I doubt the gang leader would have let BN take the expensive car. I wouldn't be surprised if the people in the pool hall BS talked to were involved or at least know something more than what they told her.

Great sleuthing!

I don't think that it's likely that the driver was wearing the watch. It would be unlikely that it'd fly off someone's wrist during an accident. I'm assuming it was sitting on the front seat of the car. And somehow already had blood on it at the time of the accident.

I agree. I have the same thinking about Bok Nam not having a driving licence n not knowing how to drive a car since he came from the countryside/mountain area. I rmb seeing him sitting behind as the back of one of the motorbike driver at epi 1.
I'm still pondering who Butler Kim was calling to report on Louis though. Someone whom we don't know??

Is there going to be a new character by the end of episode 10????

First, Seo In Guk, Seo In Guk, Seo In Guk, SEO IN GUK. There are no words. He is SPECTACULAR. This drama is the best thing I have seen all year. You assume it is a fluffy romance and then it slays you with substance and utter thoughtfulness. Nam Ji Hyun is wonderful as well. She fully embraces her character and I can't wait to see her more in the future.

The kiss scene and the red carpet were so cute. The audience (Butler Kim, Jung Ran, In Sung, and Guem Ja) was us and we were the audience. Everything they were saying and doing as they watched was me. It was fantastic.

I don't believe that Nam Bok is dead because I trust the writer. Usually the dramas deteriorate after episode 6, 7, or 8, but we have made it to episode 9 and it is still good. So I believe and will pray it will be good.

Writer, please help us continue to love this drama like we have loved it so far.

May be the pending ANGST is just another one of the writers faints? Heck the writer managed to virtually eliminate the second lead syndrome. Everyone, including myself, were braced for Oska to try to take Bok-Sil from Louis. Oska saw how much Bok-Sil and Louis really cared for each other and backed off. Has that ever happened in any other Korean drama? The female second lead is too busy chasing Oska and hiding from Louis to even properly torment Bok-Sil. At this point in the drama, I almost always hate the female second lead. However, in this drama I actually hope that Ma-Ri changes enough for Oska to accept her. Oska deserves to find someone that loves him and Ma-Ri does seem to truly care for him. Now she just needs to be worthy of him. Could this be the first ANGST free Korean drama?

I tend to compare SIG's role in High School King of Savvy as a 18 year old high school student and his role here as 25 years old Louis. Somehow I think Louis behaved more like a 18 year old cos he was over protected and pampered by his grandma like a flower in the glasshouse while SIG in High School King of Savvy was cute but mature in his own way since he lost his parents at a young age n his adoptive father brought him up well. (Spoilers: He knows that revenge was wrong n tried to talk to his older brother to stop his revenge.) I prefer his role in High School King of Savvy than cute Louis. Cos this over pampered Louis can get on my nerves sometimes. Maybe becos I'm way older so I can't tolerate 'nonsense' from a 'kid'....lol. But it doesn't mean I don't like Shopping King Louie. :P

Honestly I cant compare Louie even to a high schooler.. He is more an elementary kid for me. Louie and Bok Shil are like childhood first love, full of innocence and purity. But the red carpet kiss changes everything the way I look to them.. He is a truly "virile lion" now hehehehe

Well overall this drama does exceed my expection, and I hopes this feel good feeling will keep on deliver for the rest of the episodes! Louie yaaa, Louieeee!
