Jealousy Incarnate: Episode 16

Oh me of little faith! Okay guys, I put myself in the show’s hands, because I found this pair of episodes utterly delightful, both in answering last week, and dancing so well between the lines of ridiculous and heartfelt. Well, maybe a little more to the ridiculous, but they’re so committed to it that it’s hard not to get sucked in. And when you throw in a side of sisterhood, a few long-overdue cats hopping out of bags… what’s not to love?

The difficult thing about recapping is being forced to leave out details, and this is a show built on its details. From the ever-changing inserts at the beginning to the little alien by-plays at the end, the musical cues, the overt symbolisms and the quiet subtexts… it’s a kind of poetry. The kind that involves masses of pettiness and petulance.

EPISODE 16 RECAP

Na-ri serves up ramyun on her rooftop for the kids. Chi-yeol notices Hwa-shin’s lights on and says to Pal-gang that her uncle must be back. The man himself turns up, and he eyes Na-ri in a way Chi-yeol finds suspicious.

As she lies in bed that night, Na-ri recalls the last time she saw Hwa-shin, when he told her to date both him and Jung-won. Her thoughts are interrupted by a phone call from Hwa-shin ordering her out. He demands ramyun, and insists that she’ll do what he says in the end. He asks for ice cream, too: “Now.” Na-ri puts her phone down in disbelief.

Jung-won comes across his mom drinking liquor from the bottle, upset at how he got caught running to Na-ri by his father and Soo-jung. He says nothing and just hugs her.

Hwa-shin takes a last satisfied gulp of his ramyun at Stepmom’s store. Ohh, Na-ri, you’re hopeless! At least she’s grumpy about it. She brings him another ice cream after he rejects the first one, and he orders her to unwrap it, saying that the gesture would make him feel loved.

Shrugging, she just unwraps her own and asks what he’s been doing all month. Keeping tabs on her blind dates, apparently, as he lists how many she’s been on. And that’s when Jung-won arrives, swiping Hwa-shin’s ice cream. Hwa-shin glares as Jung-won unwraps it right away, allowing us to enjoy the subtext.

Na-ri announces, “I’m going to see a different man.” Someone without friends and without money, she adds pointedly. Both men call her back when she marches off, and Hwa-shin gets snippy that she comes back at Jung-won’s word rather than his.

“Let’s do it, the three of us,” Hwa-shin declares. She sighs. Acknowledging her wrongdoing, she begs for the three of them not to get entangled again, and tries to leave again. This time, Jung-won seconds Hwa-shin’s suggestion, “Go out with both of us.” Na-ri turns to him in disbelief.

Sung-sook eventually accepts a vitamin drink from Ja-young as they settle in for the night: “I’ll have it because you gave it to me.” The momance is alive! The bedroom light blinks, and they argue with each other about changing it.

Back to our threesome, Jung-won explains that he knows Hwa-shin will continue to pursue Na-ri, so agreeing to this madcap arrangement is the only way he can see to stay in her affections a little longer. “That’s settled, then!” Hwa-shin declares.

Jung-won points out that they want her to two-time them, but she still avers that it’s nonsensical. Getting heated, she asks them what they take her for, and rips into them for acting like they’re giving her a gift. “I will never do it,” she says, and goes away for real this time.

Glaring at Jung-won, Hwa-shin asks why he’s acting crazy like him, and Jung-won replies through gritted teeth that Hwa-shin made him that way. He leaves angrily, knocking over his chair. Aw, what did the chair do wrong?

Jung-won finds Soo-jung waiting for him when he gets home, angry about his behavior in front of her parents. She tells him that she’ll come back every night to torture him with just how head-over-heels Na-ri was for Hwa-shin for three years. She readily agrees when he asks if she has nothing better to do, haha.

Hwa-shin pops open a beer on his rooftop when Na-ri appears. He takes taunting swigs, whirling and twirling while Na-ri scolds and pleads at him to stop. He easily catches the soft toy she throws at him, and belligerently tells her to come over if she’s worried.

He tells her he doesn’t like sleeping alone. “Sleep with me,” he says. The words shock Na-ri, but her traitor heart begins to pound. She turns her back to him, and his words echo off the buildings at her. Taking a last swallow of beer, Hwa-shin goes in, keeping hold of the soft toy.

Jung-won catches Na-ri leaving an hour earlier than usual for work, and calls her out on trying to avoid him. She looks around, but denies that that she’s looking for Hwa-shin. Jung-won tells her to not to think of Hwa-shin when she’s with him, but Na-ri tells him that she can’t help it, just like when she’s with Hwa-shin, she thinks of Jung-won.

She complains that it’s tearing her conscience apart, and that’s why she doesn’t want to go along with their scheme. Nodding, Jung-won tells her to make sure she thinks of him when she’s with Hwa-shin, then.

He tells her not to call him by his title anymore, and says that he’ll let her break up with him if she calls him “Jung-won-ah”, or any other informal address, a hundred times. She tries it out, “Hey. Hey, Jung-won-ah.” He smiles. “Is this guy mad?” she shouts, and his grin widens. But when he wrestles her garment bag from her, she yells in dismay and runs off alone. Jung-won chuckles to himself.

As Sung-sook leaves that morning with her rubbish, Chef crosses paths with her and wordlessly takes the bag himself. She sighs, a mixed expression on her face.

Na-ri arrives at the station to find Jung-won already there, and he hands over her garment bag. He tells her about how some woman promised to tell him all about Na-ri’s crush on Hwa-shin. Flashing a grin, he says he’ll tell her who if she has dinner with him.

It’s Hwa-shin’s first day back at work. Na-ri reports that morning on the rising incidence of house-sharing among young people, and in the elevator, his eyes are plastered to the screen even as PD Oh, Sung-sook, Ja-young and Announcer Uhm get on. On their prodding, he gives them half-assed greetings without taking his eyes off Na-ri.

Sung-sook tells Hwa-shin to change their blinking lightbulb, and Announcer Uhm pipes up that he’ll do it, and says he’ll come around after the news. As Hwa-shin’s about to get off, PD Oh asks him if he got the notice, and tells him to do well with Hye-won. Oh?

In the canteen, Hwa-shin sits at Na-ri’s table again, but all Na-ri can hear when she looks at him is “sleep with me”. He asks her smugly if she slept well, but she only asks him if he’s been going to the hospital properly. His cockiness drops and he tells her he’s a man, not a patient.

His hopes are further dashed when she says doesn’t need any lightbulbs changing, and also can’t go to dinner with him since she has a blind date. He fails to stop her leaving the table, but gets some succor to hear she didn’t come to work in Jung-won’s car.

Hye-won reminds Na-ri about the blind date (since she’s going in Hye-won’s place), and then asks if Na-ri knew what Jung-won did to help her make the auditions.

Ohh, Hwa-shin is now anchor on the 7 o’clock news next to Hye-won, thanks to the original appointee being dispatched overseas. Thanks for the exposition, Announcer Uhm. PD Oh retorts that the only reason Uhm got the 9 o’cock is because Hwa-shin was suspended.

In an off-air moment, Hwa-shin asks Hye-won what kind of guy Na-ri is meeting, and she reveals that the other guy is also sending a substitute. She dares him to leave the broadcast right now if he’s that desperate to find out who it is.

Hwa-shin bolts up, and she observes that far from being the bastard he vowed he’d be, he’s a puppy. She tells him the address, and to PD Oh’s horror, Hwa-shin tears out his earpiece and leaves the newsdesk, surprising even Hye-won. But they have to go back on air, and the camera focuses on Hye-won.

Na-ri waits for her date, and I’m not surprised at all when Jung-won takes the seat across her. He holds out his hand in greeting. Puzzled, Na-ri takes it.

Emerging from the bathrooms, Hwa-shin returns to the studio and takes his seat. Beside himself, PD Oh comes up to the desk and tears into Hwa-shin, asking if he has some kind of bladder problem.

Announcer Uhm yells that an anchor must stay in their seat no matter what, while Hwa-shin coolly notes that they’re about to go back on air. Caught short, PD Oh and Announcer Uhm throw themselves on the floor before they end up on camera.

Na-ri tries to shoo Jung-won away, but he tells her that her that he’s here in place of her original date. He explains that he’d told that guy that she was going on dates because she was mad with him (Jung-won), and had described her as “the woman I even thought about marrying”. Even as she scoffs, her heart pounds as he leans closer, and she flees.

Taking a moment on her rooftop, Na-ri replays Jung-won’s words. She squees to herself that that’s the first time anyone ever said such a thing to her. But then she shakes her head as she remembers Madam Kim’s slap.

From across the way, Hwa-shin interrupts her thoughts. She comes over to the railing and muses to him that she never once thought about marriage, and Hwa-shin scoffs. He tells her to watch a movie with him tomorrow, but everything he says to her is followed by an echo of Jung-won in Na-ri’s head, though I’m not sure if it’s actual memory.

But her mind is definitely playing tricks on her when Jung-won pops up around and in front of Hwa-shin, countermanding everything he says. She groans, and tells Hwa-shin that her mind is spinning because of them. If she must two-time, she says, she’ll have this month with Jung-won and the next with him, which he refuses.

And if it’s mornings or nights, he wants nights. “I want to hold hands, hug you, kiss you and sleep with you,” he says in a rush. She laughs and says none of that will happen, day or night. How nice if he has just liked her back four years ago, she sighs, instead of making her crazy now. She reminds him of how mean he was to her, and says that it was so much nicer to receive love.

“Go Jung-won made [my heart] flutter so much, why did you come now to shake me up?” she says. “You like me more, though, right?” Hwa-shin asks, uncertain. She tells him that her feelings for him are buried so deep in her heart that even she doesn’t know their extent—she thought she’d got rid of them, but they keep popping up.

Announcer Uhm fails at fixing the light in Sung-sook and Ja-young’s room, and the women decide they have to call Chef after all. To their delight, he fixes it in a jiffy. Uhm pops to the loo and ends up blocking it. Sung-sook gets mad and he puts an arm around her in reassurance. Chef silently registers it.

Lying in bed, Na-ri thinks of Jung-won telling her to use his name. On her bedside calendar, where each day is allotted to one of the men by title, she now writes in “Jung-won” on the latest day.

In his own bed, Hwa-shin groans in pain from his chest. At the hospital the next day, Dr. Geum examines him and tells his he’s developed a seroma—he must have been doing all the things she told him not to do, like drinking and eating dairy, and she can even tell that he was fighting.

He argues when she says he’ll have to be checked in, and tells him off for not bringing Na-ri. He grumps that he wants her to treat him like a man, not a patient.

Ja-young and Sung-sook pop upstairs to Na-ri’s to use her bathroom that night, and they end up sharing soju on her rooftop. It turns out both women are well aware of her love-triangle dilemma: Sung-sook heard Hwa-shin asking her to sleep with him, while Ja-young saw Jung-won picking her up every day.

Na-ri confides that they want her to two-time them, which shocks both women. She hastily assures them that she would never do it, but Ja-young disagrees: She should. She explains that by going back and forth, Na-ri will be able to figure out who she likes more.

Sung-sook, on the other hand, tells her to date just one. She herself had two men chasing her (Announcer Uhm and Hwa-shin’s brother), and she doesn’t regret her choice even though it didn’t work out.

While the older women argue back and forth, both of them agree that she should pick Jung-won, and high-five over it. They tell her that you never really know a man until you live with him, and actually cackle when she asks what Hwa-shin is really like.

In the morning, Ja-young also has her moment of Chef taking her rubbish, and she’s left just as perplexed as Sung-sook.

Na-ri spots Hwa-shin leaving with an overnight bag and asks where he’s off to. “Why, you want to go together?” he asks wryly, adding that an overnight with him makes it game-over for Jung-won. But he’s rueful as he tells her, “Next time.” She cajoles him to take her, and he puffs up a little when even tells him how manly she finds him. “Nevertheless, next time,” he says to her.

Ohhh, because he’s checking into hospital. But alone as he is, whispers follow him down the hall and people recognize him as an anchor. He escapes into his room, but finds it occupied by a slightly unnerving choir group singing to the other patient. As a singer turns on him, Na-ri slips in, in hospital pajamas. He wails to when he sees her, and cries into his hands. Na-ri draws the curtain around his bed.

Jung-won pops into Rak Pasta where Chef (his uncle) is feeding the kids. He wants to move in with him to be close to Na-ri, because he likes her. Chi-yeol eyes him suspiciously, and Chef sends the kids out.

Na-ri tells Hwa-shin that the doc called her the day before, and asks him how he would have dealt with it by himself, or is he a woman for real now? Calling him “grandma”, she mock-scrubs his back, and for a second, he laughs despite himself, before turning on her with gritted teeth. In return, she scolds him for drinking.

Nurse Oh comes by to tell Hwa-shin to have his post-op bra ready, which of course he didn’t bring. Na-ri offers to fetch it and be back by the time the procedure is done, but he desperately wants her to just go away and stop acting like his guardian.

Chef mentions Na-ri’s long-time crush to Jung-won. He replies that everyone seems to know about that damn crush, and admits that he’s afraid she likes Hwa-shin more. Chef gives him the room, and encourages him to be his real self. He tells him he’s more charming up close than afar.

Since he’s there, Jung-won goes up to Na-ri’s floor and gives her a call. At that very moment, she happens to be in Hwa-shin’s place, getting the bra. But he catches sight of her coming out, just as she tells him that she’s too busy with work to see him.

…and follows her all the way to the hospital, where he finds her at Hwa-shin’s bedside. He stares at them in disbelief. Not the picture you expected to see, eh?

Jung-won emerges from the doctor’s office. If he’s any friend, he should stop Hwa-shin drinking and fighting, she had told him.

Returning to Hwa-shin’s room (where the other woman has now been discharged), Jung-won sits at his friend’s bedside. Both men avoid each other’s eyes until eventually, Hwa-shin tells him to go away.

But Nurse Oh arrives to give him a butt-injection and needs Jung-won to help uncover him, since Hwa-shin isn’t allowed to move his arms yet. Her cheerful yet threatening sing-song kills me. Both men eventually submit and Na-ri lingers at the door, watching. After the injection, she tells Jung-won to massage it vigorously for a long time.

Watching them, Na-ri recalls what Hye-won told her about Jung-won’s role in getting the audition delayed. “Shouldn’t you thank him?” Hye-won had said. Looking at them together now, Na-ri says to herself that it should have been like this from the start.

Hwa-shin tells Jung-won that he’s not giving up on Na-ri, and Jung-won agrees. At the door, Na-ri sighs. Squirming angrily, Hwa-shin tells Jung-won to quit the massaging now, and Jung-won holds his arms instead, changing his grip to a tender pat.

Na-ri chooses that moment to enter. She says they must have made up, but they deny it. She tells them she’s off home since Jung-won is here, but this time, Hwa-shin tells her to stay. He tells Jung-won that he can go. Na-ri sighs.

And so, Na-ri ends up on a divan between the two men. She tells them that she likes the three of them being together like this, but the two men disagree—they would rather each be alone with her.

“Should the three of us live together, just like this?” she asks. Not dating or two-timing, but properly—watching TV together, going to work together, smelling each other’s poop (ew). Then they can really get to know each other, and she adds that they might even end up disliking her, or she them.

She asks what they think. The men eye each other and turn over, away from each other. Half-laughing, she tells them to forget about it, and they turn back towards her. Before long, all three have fallen asleep.

Epilogue: Hwa-shin and Na-ri share a newsdesk and Hwa-shin makes a Very Serious report…on himself. “Although it’s late, I apologize,” he says, “I was wrong to call Anchor Pyo an easy woman.” He plans to make up for it by being an easy man, and admits that he did want to kiss her that time at the hospital. We know, Hwa-shin. WE ALL KNOW.

The headlines across the bottom form a lolarious second commentary: “Although [you] apologized, it’s already too late,” reads one. He concludes his report by saying he’s repenting, and hopes for another chance.

Once they’re off air, Hwa-shin tells a grinning Na-ri that she did really well, and winks.

COMMENTS

The resolution of Hwa-shin’s great sacrifice is a little tidy with him landing the second-best anchor position, but in a way, it adds to his character. If last week showed us anything else, it was that he’s undeniably masterful at his job, even if he sucks at being a normal person. But I am much more satisfied that he landed himself back in hospital—all of that drinking and fighting and wilful lack of self-care just couldn’t not have a consequence, but I’ll admit I secretly wished it was more serious. In a way, the seroma is still a fairly tidy affair for him, more the narrative device to bring Jung-won into the know than karma. That said, it was interesting to see, still, just how easy it is to emasculate him, now with the added bite of being in love with Na-ri and have her see him as a patient again. But you’d think someone who cares so much about his image would take better care of himself, eh? You silly man!

This latest cohabitation scheme actually sounds like it might work, and it at least has the dubious distinction of being the least harebrained idea so far. I’m entertained by Jung-won’s “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em” approach to all this, although his descent into Hwa-shin-like pettiness isn’t necessarily healthy when you consider the total mess of insecurity and swagger that Hwa-shin is. But if his aim is to close the distance that lies between himself and Na-ri, it certainly seems to be working. A bit. Maybe.

Although Jung-won made some significant progress this episode by getting Na-ri to use his name, I’m afraid I can’t see him as a real rival for her affections anymore, but I can at least see the intention behind his character’s actions, so that’s how I’ll continue to read him. To be honest, Hwa-shin isn’t much of a rival either, right now (I guess one day of swooniness exceeded his quota), but how telling is it that Na-ri’s heart pounded at his blunt invitation to sleep with him? In that moment, you can almost see her hating herself for reacting to it, yet reacting all the same. And then she goes and reacts to Jung-won too! Hearts, eh. Treacherous things. But I think with Hwa-shin, it’s the raw emotion she reacts to, whereas with Jung-won, it’s the romance (and perhaps novelty) of the moment.

That’s not to say one is better than the other, but her problem is that she has no idea what her heart is doing. I actually love this conflict she has with herself—for unreasonably liking both men and not being able to choose, but also not being able to reconcile herself to actually two-timing with them, while at the same time seeing the tiniest draw in it (which she totally does! But what if you end up hopelessly in love with them both? Then what?). Gosh, I just wish Jung-won was more compelling that way so I could be properly torn. He has much more chemistry with Hwa-shin, and I’m pretty happy that he finally found out about the cancer. More than the possibility of romance (we all know how that will end), it’s the bromance that’s got me excited, and I’m sure that living together will have all sorts of unexpected results.

But what I liked most about this episode was the overarching idea that there’s a lot about intimacy, love and relationships that is unromantic and messy—it’s the back-scrubbing and the dirty toilets, taking out the trash and getting injections in your butt while wearing pink pajamas. It lays out yet another subtext that a relationship takes work—sometimes unpleasant and difficult work—and that in reality, the overt romance is only a part of a full relationship, which has to be underpinned by deeper things, and then find reality in the small, daily things. We’re once again shown this contrast of the relationship primarily grounded in comfort, versus the other grounded in romance. Each relationship strives for what it’s missing, but Hwa-shin has the advantage of his romantic potential being colored much more fully.

Of course, after all the man-tics, what she needs is a really good dose of girl-talk, and that short interlude of sisterhood was pretty fantastic. I love how the show has evolved Sung-sook and Ja-young from catty, shrieky archetypes, to women who are genuinely worthy of respect in ways we can appreciate. I especially like Ja-young’s turn as mentor to Na-ri, and surrogate mother to Chi-yeol, forging an unexpected bond with the siblings. But it’s the women’s odd-couple friendship with each other that is really my favorite relationship right now, and long may it flourish! Who needs men, anyway?

I'm very much in love with this drama right now because of its humor and wit! GHJ and JJS are such gems that whenever they have a scene together, it's just sheer perfection! I'm looking forward to how the story and characters will progress in the next episodes!

Lol I almost think na-ri's main intention for cohabitation is to find out that... how much petty can hwa shin be.. I'm so curious I can't wait...hehe

Yes, I've noticed Na-Ri reaction too.
I'm so curious and need to know more about Hwa Shin.

After ep 15, I thought of dropping this show. But continued to watch ep 16. Actually there's so much depth of the characters relationship ie romance, bromance, womance, working & family relationship.

I really want to see how this plays out…the cohabiting plot twist was a curve ball because I didn't think Na Ri was even up for seeing both boys and now she's wanting to live with the both of them!

Oh, this is going to be hilarious.

Thank you for the re-cap!!

A couple of clarification points..
At the beginning Nari isn't seeing Hwa-shin for the first time in a month. It's just later that night after meeting up at the hotel.
And Jung-won's mom is mad because he got caught BY his dad and Soo-jung. He messed up meeting the in-laws by going back out to Na-ri and her date at the hotel. I don't think mom wants Jung-won to be with Na-ri any more than she ever did. Although it was confusing. There has got to be a part that got cut showing more of Jung-won's side.

My favorite character right now? Hands down the totally-over-your-drama nurse!!! I love how she just ain't got time for Hwa-shin's 'wanting to be seen as a man' whining and all the friendship/romance nonsense that is getting in the care of her patient care! Her facial expressions-LOL! Ramming Jung-won with the cart-HA!

The nurse, so so agree with you. There slts I want to write about this show but no time. Will have to , to get if out of my system. Just one thing that Hwanshin is a very unlikeable man. Very. absolutely loved the way Juwon steps out of nari's home to land at the Hosp room. No questions no insecurity that nari is with Hwanshin in this 'intimate serious' time. If it was Hwanshin at the door that idiot would have first asked whether is it Juwon that she care for more. He's too much , but Juwon just is so out if this pettiness. He gets dragged into it be used he basically gets cornered by hwanshin's tantrums. Exactly why at the start scene Hwanshin himself asks Juwon why is he becoming crazy like him. I'd want Juwon to get sassier and nari and him walk away in love.

Totally agree with you. The way the nurse nudged JW with her cart when she came in to give HS his injection like " i aint got time for your drama, move out of my way"... It was gold.

I think this show has the best cast ever, every actor brings their character to life in small moments.

Agree! The whole cast is pretty freaking awesome. They all have their eccentricities. And just as much as I love the bromance, I loved when Nari got together with the ahjummas, it was gold.

I thought the same on that it looks like "we are missing a few scenes". I usually forward, don't have time. So I kind of watch snippets from here and there. So I thought I just missed them. I expected a scene with JW parents and the other family. I find it weird this way. Maybe they are saving it for later. ?

Also,if Na Ri doesn't want Jung Won in the end can't she just give him to me,i'll make a sacrifice and even accept his petty childish Mom...Really really loved the way he looks at her when he picks her up early in the morning when he asks her to use informal speech(banmal) with him,my heart flattered so darn much(the combo with informal clothes) in those moments,i want his old hairstyle back!...Also found it intresting when his Uncle told him to show Nari his true nature not what his parents thought him, curious how wild/represed is he from the one we know...Love the Ladies, from hate to friends...Chef is so darn cool! Was expecting to see Hwa Shin back in the hospital after all the things he does that he shouldn't...Now that Jung Won knows i hope he can make him abide by the treatment and stop harming himself

So, I guess I'm in the minority that didn't really like these past two episodes. Yes, the humor was on point, but it doesn't work for me because of one big fact: I just can't buy that Na-ri loves both guys. And I don't believe it not because I don't think it's possible to love two people at the same time, but because the show did a poor job on convincing me. For one, I never felt Na-ri was in love with Jung-won; it always seemed he was someone she liked to be around, a wonderful men to date, but it always seemed she was struggling to actually feel their relationship, as noted on the scene in which Jung-won claims he's the one that loves more. At the same time, I think it was to soon to say she loves Hawn Shin when she was clearly over him (even if deep down she still had some residual feelings). I get that her feelings resurged because of what happend in episodes 13 and 14, but that's not enough. Hwa-shin is even more problematic to me because the show has decided that he is the vilain for not reciprocating her feelings during the three years she loved him — and, yes, for being a total jerk about it on several ocasions. My problem is that the same flashbacks that showed us how inconsiderate Hwa-shin could be also showed us how imature and annoying Na-ri's crush could get (when she stood watching his date, for example, that was weird, to say the least).

My point is: when the show decided to run over all this issues and go with "I love you both!", it has lost me.

See I too don't think that Na Ri is in love with both guys but I also don't think Hwa Shin is really in love with her yet either. They like each other. She likes both guys, but love? If it's love, it's early days yet. Same with Jung Won. I think they are all rushing to claim the NaRi prize. And NaRi is confused because both guys make her heart race. That's fair enough, but I don't think it's really love, yet.

Let me joint the minority.

I thought by the kiss already seal where is NR heart lies, thus making her confusing is confusing me as well. She is not love JW that much?.

HS suggest to two timing make HS kissing his best friend's girlfriend is nothing wrong and sending messages to whole world that, "guys if you love you best friend's girlfriend, it ok if you kiss her as long as she kiss you back, means she doesnt love your best friend much" kind of. OR I got the wrong message?

I totally get what you are saying @ Luiza, Lola, thunderlightning.

Initially, I struggled with the 'I love you both' bit too. Like, how can you say that show, after what you showed me in Ep 14?! You show me pain and passion, you make me root for them and next week you come back and say “I’m sorry, but she loves BOTH boys” Hmm….

I now get that the show is taking a lighthearted approach, and it’s quite entertaining, so I am still very much on board. I guess my Hwa-Shin will have to work extra hard to win the lady’s heart (again).

I think Nari loves Hwashin and that both boys like her. Her feeling for Jungwon are more of an escape from the shame of having a one-sided crush for 3 years.
We can see that she still resent HS for that but as for the show development I think her feelings were rambled whenever they were together for the cancer. They were together a lot.

I think that you guys are also forgetting that Na-ri said that she's never had a boyfriend before. She's never been liked by someone she likes. She's never been liked period. She's never been in these types of situations. So she may not yet know the difference between crush, like, and love. So I think a little leeway can be given until she figures it out?

@luiza mota ... I agree with your comment wholeheartedly. I don't think she loves both men,,, and I wish the reason she broke up with both was more of a moral and noble thing to do. Cause, she felt shame and knows it was wrong.

If they really wanted to show Na Ri as strong independent woman who is going on blind dates multiple times after breaking up with two men she was in love with... well then, why would Na Ri be in 3 year crush with a jerk,,,, there were plenty of other men around her.

I think inconsistent characterization is what making me dislike the show. However, I am in it too deep to get out of... sigh,,,,

Required fields are marked *

I don't understand how Na ri having a 3 year crush negates her independence? What defines a woman's independence exactly?
She didn't lose her agency as a person or ask Hwa shin to provide for her. She was simply in infatuation with a man for 3 years.
Na ri continued to strive to achieve her dreams that have always been independent of men. Her wanting to be an anchor wasn't something she wanted in order to be with a man. Her wanting to provide for her brother doesn't relate in any way to other men.
Na ri doesn't believe it's right to two-time the men either. I can totally relate to her having two good-looking, heavily flawed men trying for her affection especially when she's developed an emotional attachment to both.
Of course, you're more than welcome to dislike it but I honestly don't understand the idea that only the morally good woman that has no particular affection for any man can be considered "independent". We're all awesome flawed women and seeing well-rounded characters helps to allow us to be that and still be loved.

I think the way the show is playing on love isn't the dramatic type that you die over. More the beginnings of love and feelings and the potential it can bring. In which case it's a valid argument for both men.
Na Ri sees the potential to fall in love with both men because she does love them in different ways. Like Saya said, the raw feelings and swoon-worthy moments are there with Hwa Shin but Jung Won brings a sweep-you-off-your-feet courtship with romance and his own brand of dependable and stable swoony-ness.

This show (or rather JJS?) is kiling me, that rooftop scene when HS was dancing around and sipping his beer while holding onto the stuffed animal and being more annoying than a toddler had me in stitches. Thank you SBS for making this drama 24 episodes long, I'll never get bored of it.

And don't even get me started on my love for Nurse Oh who's the biggest troll of the show. ?? I just love all the hospital scenes.

ROFL, that moment when she told him to shut his mouth & he opens it ever-so-slightly just to piss her off, I lost it. He's just so entertaining that I can't even hold his immaturity against him. And then that "Sleep with me" ruins me for completely different reasons...

This is probably the first time I actually look forward to the male lead having to stay in the hospital because the staff is so freakin' hilarious. Love his interactions with them and how Nurse Oh doesn't take any of his BS.

I'm with you guys on the music. Even the unofficial tracks they've used have been spot-on, like the song that plays when Hwa-shin goes around the broadcast station drunk, asking everyone to date him in ep 10. For some reason (lol, probably JJS), that whole sequence amuses me greatly, especially the part with Reporter Gye & the song complimented Hwa-shin's state of mind perfectly. It kept sticking in my head until I finally had to hunt it down.

I had an epiphany about JI when I belatedly posted a comment about it on Open Thread, which I'll paraphrase here. I came to the realization that JI is really a dark satirical comedy veiled in traditional rom-com.

I'm in awe of how the director/writer/actors are able to accomplish the difficult feat of balancing wistful bittersweet moments with off-beat humor in the most outrageous un-apologetic makjang way. The crazier, the better as long as the humor is still intact. It reminds me of Grapevine, but not as "dark". That can only explain why I continue to laugh harder the more they suffer!

Yes, if you like JI, you'll appreciate Grapevine. They're both dark satirical comedies, but visually and tonally they're different. While JI is portrayed as a traditional rom-com, Grapevine employs a more stylized film noir aesthetic.

Basically, JI is the sweet, crazy, unpredictable, stylish younger sister who drinks soju, and Grapevine is the elegant and sophisticated sister dressed in designer wear and drinks the most expensive wine from France and Italy.

How are you going to live from now onwards, everytime you see him as a colleague, everytime you see your bf, why?!'

The sexual banter across the railings was hilarious.

I feel HS is more honest even if he doesn't say the 'M' word - he wants to live with her and eat her cooking. He is adorable with little Bum. They know and get each other very well..hospital..work..

The show is shaving the fuzz of romance and we get to the real substance of relationships. I now accept that in most societies a woman marries into a family and you need the acceptance and support of the family. NR will never be good enough for JW's family who will never appreciate her for the self made woman she is.

Whereas she fits right in with HS's crazy dysfunctional family. Love the bonding with her future sister's in-law..

After the epic kiss in ep 14 JW is not a contender anymore. JW is swoony but is there enough substance to build a relationship?

I love how Na-ri teased Hwa-shin before he went to the hospital, and then turned up there herself to support him. The actors have such wonderful rapport, and if someone told me they ad-libbed the morning rooftop scene, I would totally believe it.

And it's awesome how Sung-sook and Ja-young have become like best pals and sisters! I've been mostly pleased by how the women in the show have been portrayed (maybe minus Pal-gang, since she doesn't do much these days), and I hope this keeps up.

During Hwa Shin's strip scene I was suprised, that Jung Won didn't see and realize what those clearly visible lines on HS's chest ment. He was so close to finding out, but his anger made him blind. So I wasn't surprised that they made him find the secret now.
And I loved how they didn't really talk about this discovery. Just looks. This bromance is the best, they know each other so well. To me it was never an option Jung Won not knowing, it is too important.

The last thing I want is for the cancer issue to turn into a pity factor thing and cause one of the guys to back off. If one of them should back off, it should be because he has realised he is not the man to give Na-ri happiness and his friend can. So it shouldn't be about pity or pettiness, but to take "defeat" on the chin like a man and wish the other well. While Hwa-shin might have continued showing slivers of this had the kiss not happened, Jung-won does not seem to have it in him.

Actually Jung-won just really puts me off. The actor is not helping either.

It helps that the actors are so talented. The other thing that's nice is that the show is unpredictable and some of the story lines have been so new: like the asexual hunky and endearing chef! what will they do with him? So, the comedy drama continues and the relationships seem believable. Can't wait for more.

I feel like the worst thing about Jealousy Incarnate is that it makes every other drama seem so much frustrating by comparison. It becomes so difficult to defend mediocre, or even otherwise-good writing, that refuses to go beyond the done-before by saying "well, they never promised to do anything different" or "of course they can't go there," when you have a mainstream drama, with popular actors, doing things differently and going there and still getting decent ratings. It CAN be done, and if shows still refuse to do it, then that's on them. This drama didn't start out with a tagline saying it was going to be an absurdist retelling of a modern day romance, it never promised to do anything different; it just did it.

Watching this, I feel like every character requires so much commitment for the drama to work as a whole. It would be so easy for the whole thing to fall flat if the actors acted out their parts with that nudge-nudge, wink-wink towards the audience, letting them know that they too know how absurd these situations are, that they too are in on the joke. Instead every actor is completely immersed in character, so you know that they're feeling the pain, even though you can't understand why everything together (the writing, direction, acting, context) makes you want to laugh. Jo Jung Seok, in particular, is creatively humiliated pretty much every week, and has to suffer through a variety of ignominies that give the audience second-hand embarrassment, but his commitment is incredible, he does it all, and he's clearly having a damn good time doing it. There's no concern for image or pride, and that's what, at the first instance, makes this show work.

I think one of the greatest differences between real life and fiction is that fiction has to make sense and real life doesn't. Real people often make odd choices, are completely incomprehensible in their decisions, constantly go back-and-forth, fall in love with multiple people, and we accept it as one of those things, we understand that we won't understand. But in fiction, there is a clear progression of events, each leading to the next. In that context, JI, as nonsensical as it may seem, channels life more than it does fiction. For all it's insanity, it's far more real than most dramas that just follow tropes, because it follows emotions, and it lays bare what all of us already know; people aren't predictable. They can't be pre-empted.

Above it all, the writing is masterful. It reminds me of a story a friend was telling me about her grandmother who has Alzheimer's, and who was once convinced that she was being held captive by her family, and told my friend to rescue her. So my friend devised an elaborate rescue plan to save her, complete with regulation black clothing and walkie-talkies.

It was a funny story. She told it in a funny way.

"You have to laugh," she said reflectively, at the end, "because if you don't, you might just cry."

Zoe, this analysis is amazingly beautiful. And the comparison to your friend's story puts the analysis into an even more humane and "real life" context. Thank you. I agree with everything you said. As an audience, we tend to get frustrated when dramas seem non-sensical. I came to the conclusion a while ago that one reason we might demand that tv shows and movies follow a neat line is because they are escapes for us. We live the messiness of "real life," so why would we want to watch it play out again? It is kind of a paradox, to watch something on TV that is supposed to be based on reality, but expecting that "based on reality" to also deviate from reality by being more ordered. Perhaps that gives us the illusion that our own lives CAN also be ordered.

In either case, this show indeed deviates from this expectation by being messy, and ENJOYING that messiness. The writing, the directing, the characters, the cast, even the they way the camera moves around (the shots are so haphazard, one moment we are zoomed in, next second we pan around, next second we are focused to the side) - all unpredictable and messy, and really an ode to realism. That is what this drama is, an ode to realism. Usually with other stereotypical dramas, I am rooting for certain characters or I am appalled at certain parts of the plot. Interestingly for this drama, I am not rooting for any of the characters, I do not particularly like/dislike the characters, and I am not deciding that the plot should move this way or that...I am merely just living life with the characters and observing as they make their decisions and as they zig-zag. Of course I am happy when they take unconventional drama approaches (if this 3-way cohabitation happens, this drama will go down in my drama history book), and at the same time I am neutrally taking in all the ridiculousness and just rolling with the bitter-sweet tragicomedy playing out. Which is kind of how I approach real life as well.

Hi Zoe, I just wanted to say that this is a really lovely piece of writing. I think tropes are great, they're shorthands that provide instantaneous gratification, because we're familiar with them and in a sense know how to react. It's why I keep on coming back to Korean dramas; I know the stories back to front and I know that the hero is just another derivative from a previous show, but damn does it make me feel good. That being said though, there's something compelling about building characters from scratch who have a certain realness about them. I think the reason why Jealousy Incarnate resonates with a lot of the audience is because its characters are seemingly original and true to life.

Earlier in the show I had the same misgivings others did about how this show would handle delicate topics like cancer and the trickiness of relationships. I had been put off by the funeral scene honestly. But like your friend said, "You have to laugh because if you don't, you might just cry."

But at the same time, I came back to it because it started to peel back the layers of its characters without diving into it in typical kdrama fashion. It's light and breezy without being dismissive.

I can't even add more to what you said because you said it all and wrote it so well too!

I'm confused about it, are they ( HS, NR ) trying to keep his cancer a secret anymore. In the Hospital room despite NR wearing hospital outfit, it was clear that HS was the or at least a patient too. He had IV infusion and also laying in a hospital bed with the curtain open. So what is the hell !!!
Anyone has an explanation other than that production had a pout of dementia ?!!!

Also I kind of hate (well, tiny bit) for intrusion on HS and JW. I really expected the CA revelation to bring out their heartfelt interactions again. Also no guilt trip for JW for the drinking and fighting ?!! I don't blame him at all, but I expected him to blame himself for it and for not knowing.

Finally, Let's the bromance begin...PLZ

Also, I'd really appreciate your prayers. I'll be taking the most difficult exam in my life time. ?
Run back to my books.

Have a nice day Beanies ❤️

Jungwon was feeling guilty...
So guilty that he got scolded by the doctor for being overly worried over nothing. Isn't that why he still stayed with him while massaging his buttock?

I love everybody on this show! Usually, I skip parts of a drama when I dont like the character acting out on the scene (and just read the recaps) but with this show, I dont do that.

So many things going on it really makes me wonder where we are heading and how it will end.

I think Zoe has succinctly summed up the reasons why this drama is working for me on so many different levels on comment 25.

This is going to go in my top 3 all time kdrama hall of fame!

Locked, stocked and all ready for the remainder of the ride <3

I love that Hwa-shin's "sleep with me" didn't come off as at all sexual to me. It really felt like he just didn't want to be alone (which is a big step for him). He just wanted someone to cuddle with. That's not to say that he wouldn't want anything else, but his declaration totally got to me because it felt so comfortable & sincere.

Na-ri is so concerned about Hwa-shin's breast cancer that a part of me wonders whether some of her reasoning for the cohabitation is to get his life back on track. I know her conversation with the ladies (+ her own desires) probably opened her up to the idea, but his worsening condition could be the tipping factor.

One of the reasons I like Na-ri is that she cares so much about the boy's friendship and knows that Jung-won could be the best one to help Hwa-shin right now. I can't help but think she likes Jung-won much more when all three of them are together (getting along, that is). That's when he comes off strongest as a rival so maybe this development will actually work in his favor? But I definitely agree that his connection with Na-ri isn't nearly as compelling as it could be and it won't ever really rival Hwa-shin's. This is why I'm glad that I feel like the cohabitation has purposes beyond her picking one of the two boys. It's more about rebuilding & exploring all their relationships with each other using a set-up that strips them of all the normal trappings & rules and just lets them figure out how they really feel for each other, warts and all. After all, a true best friend is someone you can live with and there's nothing more romantic/bromantic than that.

I also find my self in the same thought.

To me, HS doesnt really want to beat JW in the rivalry as he murmured in the morning prior hospital check-in that an overnight trip is a game over. He flashed an uncertain look. 51-49 was also a mark up, wasnt it?

However, why sleep-with-me was not genuine? He probably held back since he soon said good night. Given, he had said it before to JW, meaning he had had the thoughts many times. Guys feel those with girls they like dont they? But actually, I have never seen HS playing any real flirting gestures in the show. Just his eyes talking. Or only me?

I think its only us audience who cannot find the relationship between jung won and nari compelling. But to na ri, I think its perfectly compelling. No man has probably given her as much attention as jung won did, on his own (before she actively started showing any interest in him). He is also extremely swoony to her, its hard for her not to react to him. She is the one who takes care in all the relationships that mattered to her ( with her mom, now her brother, even with hwa shin's cancer), but with jung won she doesn't have to do that, he keeps giving to her and gently brings her out of her shell. So, I think we have to see this triangle from na ri's point of view.

I think im the only one don't like the idea of the three living together. Also the bromance is weirdest, no man is hugging a man sleeping unless.... Im still watching for the cold anchor HyeWon she's cool.

I'm not excited by the idea of them living together either because I think it makes Na-ri look like a really clueless, selfish person. Isn't she supposed to be taking care of her younger brother? Admittedly, he practically lives alone, but it's always been because of her work, not because she's off trying to sort out her emotions. It seems out of character for the woman who was elbow deep in mud digging up octopi for him.

I don't have a problem with the bromance because I figured out long ago that Koreans are much more affectionate with their same gender friends than where I live. I didn't get it at first because on American TV the kind of relationship these two guys have would mean an entirely different conclusion to the love triangle. But it's clear that these two have been best friends, maybe for both of them, their only close friend, and so I appreciate that they can show that affection for each other without it automatically meaning something else.

When Hwashin did that twirl with a smug look  in his face, I felt like I wanted to either punch him or kiss him senseless! He's so maddeningly cute! Aargh. I. can't. even. (σ≧▽≦)σ
This show is driving me crazy. I'm in the office, busy with work, then that scene would pop in my head, and I can't help laughing to myself. I think my co-workers are getting concerned. (*ノ▽ノ)

As much as I adore Hwashin, even after 16 episodes, I still think Jungwon is best for Nari. Nari is a selfless character. She takes care of everyone around her- from Chiyul, to their neighbors, people in the studio, and of course, Hwashin. Her cohabitation idea isn't for her either. I think she's doing it to force the boys to be together and reconcile their differences. She's a "giver". Hwashin, though, can be pretty selfish. There's that incident with the brother, then his stubborness with career vs cancer, then his 0 guilt over the kiss-if he ends up with Nari, he will bask in her love but he won't cherish her like she deserves. He's a "taker". Whereas Jungwon, despite the lack of grand gestures, has always been caring to Nari. He wakes up early in the am to drive her, makes her clothes, eats noodles he doesn't like just because Nari likes them... even now, he's still very caring even to Hwashin. I feel like he can make Nari feel pampered-and not because of money.
Oh well, Hwashin still has 8 episodes to convince me otherwise. And I eagerly wait for his antics. (~▽~@)♪♪♪

But Hwa Shin sacrificed his anchor position for her!!! He coached her for the audition! He made her win the position she was hoping for, her ultimate goal, because he gave her all the right tips and on top of that he brought her there in time. JungWon's help was just a little icing on the cake. And after losing his chance to audition himself Hwa Shin simply shruged his shoulders...

He is anything but a 'taker'. He would melt like ice in the sunshine, if she would choose him and he would do all this lovey-dovey stuff, because he would be so goddamn happy. Remember his mom calling him 'baby' and his reaction to that? That is, how he will be.

Jung Won otoh is our standard kdrama lead, perfect and ... boring. In every other story and context I would be fine to see a character like him win the girl, because we, the audience, would know, they have a chance to build something, because he is genuinely nice.

But here Hwa Shin and Na Ri already do all the coupley things. And because the shift in their relationship is based on his illness, they do the things real couples do. They know how their farts smell, she has no probs to hand him back a used tissue and she is there for him in a crisis. (They even shared the kiss in the locker room of the hospital ward of all places! That's how important her knowledge of his illness is in the show's context.)

Jung Won has nothing to offer to make up for this and no chance at all to reach this level of understanding and intimacy.

Exactly my sentiments and why I can't take Jung-won seriously as credible endgame.

Also, didn't Jung-won end up creating a traffic jam in a bid to stop his mother? Wouldn't Na-ri have gotten stuck in that jam even with the help of her motorbike friend? Jung-won, I feel, has been trying to buy Na-ri's affection, sponsoring her clothes, wowing her with his gentlemanly acts, getting her to lower her speech. Very little of these actually show what he's like as a person, and it's telling that Na-ri hasn't been as curious to learn more about what makes him tick.

Oh my goodness ! Nari still flirting and misbehave with HS whenever she is in close proximity with him. Even touching his armpit ! this time round and tickling him , what was she thinking ? It is like encouraging him to say the words 'sleep with me' again and again.

I like samchun rak advice to his nephew first time close relationship with JW since we watched the drama. And first time JW short conversation with chae yul.

On missy ! Why you rammed the cart at JW , that is very rude , what has he done to you ? and JW is patience enough not to chide her, oh my heart break to see that ! I hope NARI saw that too.

JW look so very stylish with the dark green patch and black hip jacket with a tie !.

Eventhough GPK is the second lead to me he has done well in his acting not constipated acting and i hope it will be like feast of gods whereby the second lead got the girl .!

Cohabit is not my cup of coffee as suggested by NARI ? Weired suggestion from the script writer.

Fighting JW !

I love how Nari continuously fails in segmenting her relationship with both guys and how her heart is in constant debacle and the next you know she's trying to make sense out of all the nonsensical things. I see the resemblance between Nari and Gong Shil. Both characters are a little bit on the whacked side of things haha another thing is that both Nari and Gong Shil have their own doubts about being loved or loving someone, and why its overshadowed by their own personal inhibitions and fears.

In Nari's situation, her spontaneity is triggered by her uncontrollable emotions and her lack of self restraint from responding to Hwa Shin and Jung Won's rapid fire moments of professing their affections to her. For Nari, there is no idle moment, the girl continues to bring on a comical relief to such tension building moments and that's exactly why her character is downright adorable and unforgettable.

I just love how she continues to question herself and her actions to the point of pity then flips the switch once she's around any of the two guys and just repeats her own damn mistakes or make new ones she'll regret right after. I can't hate her for it cause that's who she is, it takes a whole lot of experiencing before the learning process kicks in and that's pretty much the norm for some of us. The relatability is real and uncanny.

Ok. I admit. I was in a bit of a what-the-hell mode as episode 15 started its journey. As I was watching it, I really didn’t know what to feel or how to react to the events that transpired immediately after the kiss scene.

After all that passion in Ep 14, here we are in Ep 15-16 as if nothing happened and everybody gets to start on a clean slate? With Ep.14’s kiss, I thought the deal was sealed. I thought that was goodbye Go-NaRi and hello Hwa-NaRi. I thought my ship would be sailing away in glory towards the beautiful sunset. But, noooo. The ships are back to the port and Pyo Nari is running around in circles debating which one to board. I am Team Hwa-shin - so with the turn of events, should I feel happy for him/ sad for him/ angry for him??

It was only when that wacky music kicked in @ about 19 mins into ep 15 I realized the writer wants to go on the fun, light hearted, road-never-travelled way with this one. Alright. The story is still funny and interesting, so I’m with you. I trust you. As dramallama said in ep 15s recap, it seems there’s a new tension building up between Hwa-Nari. I am all for romantic tensions. And I can’t wait to see the cohabitation antics starting next week.

Hwa-shin, uri aegi, don’t give up. The writer-nim’s not letting you have it easy, is she? Luckily for us, you are a lover AND a fighter. Himnae, Hwashin ah!!

They both felt too guilty about that kiss, since they both love Jung Won (not sexually!) as well. They can't start their own relationship and just leave him behind that way. That's why their relationship can't work yet; the three of them will have to come to some understanding first.

News flash, Soo-jung has unsheathed her claws! Wow, this show sure got some feisty women in it. Loved the character development, and it seems Jung-won like it too. What's with this fetish of his to be talked down and yelled at? ^_^
So possibly the end game will be everybody living together in Rak Pasta building, man, if this then could be a half-an-hour sitcom, I'd love to watch for a year. Aside from the hilarious man-tics (thanks for the new vocab, Saya!), all the interactions happening are so enjoyably quirky. The elevator conversation makes me giggle uncontrollably...
Am glad Jung-won finally found out about the cancer, methink Go Kyung-pyo emote the feels quite well. When the doctor told him to stop Hwa-shin from fighting, his expression made me feel that he was beating himself with guilt remembering his last fight with Hwa-shin. His "Nurse said it should be massaged for some time" cracked me up! Judging how Na-ri felt about this friendship, maybe the living together suggestion is also her way of mending the bromance?
Hope the living together will happen, so we can see a bit more of what's happening with all the other characters.

"But I think with Hwa-shin, it’s the raw emotion she reacts to, whereas with Jung-won, it’s the romance (and perhaps novelty) of the moment."
I like this statement of the recapper. I think NaRi is swayed by JungWon romantic style, and JW also said directly that she is looking for marriage. This will move NR as we know she experienced one sided love for 3 years, which girl will not be moved by a statement like this from someone you already have interest with.
But it's pure direct emotion from NE as well that moves her every time she has interactions with HS. A guy you like for 3 years, will not dissapear all of sudden. The raw emotion will surface anytime without control. It's also why NR also cares HS very much for his illness.
The way she said to HS, that it's better if he liked her 3 years ago. It's her emotion and perhaps anger, because things will be much more simple. But then we won't have a 24 episode drama.

This show cracks me up, I can't stop laughing!

I love how both Jung-won and Hwa-shin look at Na-ri differently. Their eyes show us how each one of them feels for her and how they wear their feelings and approach her. Jung-won looks at her so warmly, he has this sparkle in his eyes when he's looking at her, he treats her sweetly and speaks calmly and it's this way of his that makes you drawn to him. Whereas Hwa-shin's eyes are fierce and passionate and so is he with his emotions and actions. He tells her bluntly that he wants to hold her hand, kiss her, hold her and sleep with her. Both guys are so different that I can't help wondering how she ended up loving them both at the same time!

I'm not sure how I feel about "Living together" idea, sure it'll be funny but I think she needs to spend time with both guys separately to know them better, not when they're being petty against each other for her. I honestly think she needs more time with Jung-won because she's been crushing on Hwa-shin for years and she works with him at the same place, she knows him a lot better than she knows Jung-won. Yes, she dated him for a while but she never got to know him as he is, like Chef said, he's more charming up-close than afar, and I want Na-ri (and us) to get to know that side of him!

Thanks Saya for the recap.

We still don't know the real JW.

Chef Rak has given us a hint that JW was a bit of a bad boy player. He has been repressed by his family. And now -the changes in clothing -he's shedding his sheep's clothing. That 'woman I'm thinking of marrying line' with that stare seemed totally practised.

I thought HS's flirtatous banter was more raw and honest. He knows her quite well and didn't really have expectations of physical intimacy.

I think the cohabitation will work in HS's favour cos we already know him warts and all. We know JW as the prince but not really as a man.

While Hwasin asked Nari to sleep with him, Jung Won start all over again by saying that he wants to meet Nari with a marriage in mind (or he thought he's going to marry ). How come this statement is the same level with Hwa sin? I love bad boys for dating but for marriage? Jung Won all the way.
He came to the hospital and stay. maybe part of the reason is Nari but I think the biggest part is Hwa sin. He knows his bestfriend so that's why he said he's not going to give up on Nari, because he knows Hwasin doesn't like to be pitied and Nari is not a thing she is a human with feelings and these are 2 different things.
Jungwon too ask her to trusted hum and he actually have proven that many times that he is trustworthy and dependable.
So I am team Jungwon here, for all the reasons above. If Nari doesn't want him please give him a better girl who knows how to appreciate him writernim?

Anneyong beanies

Its so fun to read all the comments/reviews here. I am never someone that would go through hundreds of comments for any drama. But now I did it as I wanted to know what others think about JI. My oh my. I am not the only one who's suddenly laughed at workplace just because some HS's antics popped into my head.

Most importantly..i think for the past few years ive bee so busy and kinda close my heart for guys/romance/love etc.

Watching this drama unfold all the livey dovey feeling. Watching the unforbidden kisses Hwa NaRi had kinda makes me realize I have been missing something in life ; the passionate other half, or the attention a woman would get from her man, the longing, or maybe just plain stupid jokes with someone that really make my day.

As for JW, I like him a lot in this drama but I think he still has long way to go compare to JJS and GHJ. But he definitely swoony.

Still...I think I'm having JoSeouk's syndrome. Can I have him for myself please? I never thought I would find him sleek sexy superb as he is now. Droooools ~
