Drama viewership ratings for the week of Oct. 17-23, 2016
by HeadsNo2
This week saw the end of buzz drama Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, which pulled in an impressive 23.3% and 22.9% for its final two episodes, respectively. The only Big 3 broadcast channel competition it faced on Monday was Woman With a Suitcase, since Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo was pre-empted at the last minute for a baseball game.
That pre-emption seemed to cause some confusion in the international sphere, but everything was right back on track for the show on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the day off didn’t do the show any favors in terms of ratings, since it pulled in a very moderate 5.9%. It’s Drinking Solo over on cable that’s been getting better and better, managing to pull in in 4.4% with its even episode this week.
But the real surprise seems to be coming from the middle of the week, with Shopping King Louis looking poised to possibly overtake Jealousy Incarnate. That really wasn’t something I was expecting, especially considering the head start Jealousy got, but it’s fun to have some shakeups now and then.
Over on the weekend, Fantastic finished up its poignant run at 2.4%, while tvN’s The K2 keeps flirting with that 6% mark. Maybe one day, maybe never.

Gah...why must we go into separation and angst territory in Shopping King Louis next week? This always makes the ratings drop. (Ok, I just don't wanna see my puppies being hurt...and seeing SIG crying is like stabbing PBG, stahp it!)

And even if one of SIG's drama isn't someone's cup of tea, it can only be any other reason BUT his acting. Seo in Guk pulls off his characters so amazingly well, it's like he morphs into them.
Just last month I was wondering if SIG is actually a conman in real life and now I want to know if he's part puppy :)

IKR? I am worried that SKL will lose a little of its ratings next week cuz of the incoming angst. But I guess we can pick pace right back next week. I love JI too but I just want SIG's last show before army gets big ratings! Or basically any show.. I don't think any of his shows have received incredibly high ratings yet!

@Arhazivory and @agree I know about those ratings, but I was actually referring to high ratings on the major networks. (I wasn't very clear, I know :P) Both 97 and 38TF were high ratings drama if compared to other shows on TVN and OCN, but 5% ratings is considered a failure for the big networks (*sob* I Remember You *sob* Beautiful Mind).
So I am loving the fact that SIG is getting good ratings for one of the big 3 networks.

You are right about IRY.. however his show The King's Face received 8-10% ratings (Asian Wiki) so that is pretty good.
SKL is #1 and Jealousy Incarnate is #2 in TNMS ratings for the past two weeks.

I'm also worried for the ratings too! I hope it continues to rise. Don't know if anyone read this news yet - I'm not sure how it will affect SKL but Oh Dae Hwan got into a car accident recently and was rushed to hospital. It's minor so probably nothing to worry about but he was quite shaken by the accident.

I don'the think Moon Lover'so low raring was caused by pre-emption. Instead, I think it's saved Moon Lovers from 2 (very) low ratings this week due to Moonlight's two final episodes. I'm also hopping it will pick up next week though!

Partially due to pre-empted because of baseball and partially because of Moonlight's finale. Plus, episode 16 eventually leaked online, a day before its official broadcast in Korea but idk if the leak affecting the domestic K-audiences or not.

Any review for Laurel Tree Tailors? I tried to watch a single episodes but my issue mainly is that why weekend dramas look like they are pretty dated? I know they are low on budget compared to other dramas but they do not necessarily need to show that.
Waiting to know what happened in FantastiC in its recap since I dropped it pretty early. Not that it wasn't a good drama, it was, but I guess you cannot deal with so many terminal illness dramas, plus Marriage Contract had already given a beautiful premise and ending on cancer that I didn't think anyother show could top that.
Are there any recommendations for serious shows? By serious I do not mean melo. Something serious luke Misaeng. I decided to watch Signal but I guess I won't since, cop/detective/crime thriller dramas are not my thing and I dont like every episode new case format. There are so many rom coms airing right now that I am pretty tired of them as it is not even my favourite genre.

I personally think FantastiC is above Marriage Contract, although I loved MC as well. FantastiC dealing with terminal illness in a different way. In a MC, the romance between leads and the female leads' daughter won our hearts.
Fantastic, there are so many amazing characters and we cannot help to love them. From our main leads' romance, a sweetheart second male lead who is very supportive with main leads' romance, beautiful friendship between ladies and guys, bromance between first and second male lead, noona romance, how our heroine have full supports from people around her also very beautiful - it is a complete drama. Among best part for me because the female lead & second male lead not having any romance but they have special relationship call as 'cancer colleague'. For me this drama handle romance, comedy & melo parts very well. ;)
As for Laurel,i am enjoying it so far. It is a drama that I dont give so much attention it other aspects than the characters themselves.

If you are looking for serious drama, then you cannot go wrong with Six Flying Dragons that tackles the creation of Joseph Dynasty. Great stuff there. You'll be hooked by Episodes 4 - 10. Next thing you know you'll be in Ep 25, which means you're halfway there.
I cannot recommend you Missing Noir M because it's a crime drama and has a new case every two episodes.

"Six Flying Dragons" was a fusion sageuk. If you want the conventional and more historically accurate sageuk of this era then watch KBS's "Jeong Do-jeon"(2014) or "Tears of the Dragon" (1996) in Korean only.

What affected ML's ratings the most is the fact that Youku accidentally uploaded episode 17 on Monday even though it wasn't supposed to air that night. The episode was available pretty much everywhere not long after, even though the video was only up on their site for a few minutes.
IDK if baseball will affect the airing schedule tomorrow, but man, if ever it does, I wish SBS would make their announcements ahead of time, instead of ten minutes before broadcast time.

I like her so much though. I had no idea who she even was before this drama, but I admire her confident and sparkling character here. she is after all half of what makes the cute couple scenes so memorable. imagine the drama with Louis alone... bit delusional, imagining he is with someone and doing all those things we´ve seen. It would become a drama of a mental disorder.
I think the hardest part in the coming angst is Bok Shil won´t smile. Her smile is so bright I didnt need to switch the light on. it will feel gloomy if she doesnt smile.

I was comparing the ratings though. The K2 obviously has something going for it , considering it already a hit drama( in cable ratings) while ML is flop of historic proportions ( considering all the promotion and mediaplay it got).

I stopped liking the K2. The story's getting silly and the Anna character completely unrealistic. I'm still mad for Ji Chang Wook but otherwise: meh...
I'll forever adore Fantastic though. It was a bittersweet, funny story about crazy adults told with heart. Gimme more!
Also, I'd kill for another drama like Signal.

This is what works for K2....the actors especially Song Yoon-Ah, JCW and Anna and Jeha's chemistry. Here's what doesn't make sense flow of story and ridiculous plot progressions and plot devices used. It's just not coming together well like it should which reflects in the up and down in the ratings too.

Your better off watching the movie that Signal was based on called Memories of Murder. Signal was a cheap knock-off of that movie.

Never watched Memories of murder, but i always thought Signal's whole dual timeline and communicating through a radio wave concept was based on the movie Frequency. It even has a similar name. There is a Frequency drama series on right now on netflix, i think. That's crime solving too. Not checked that out cos i have too many kdramas to watch, but i guess that would be very similar to Signal.

Just checked, it's on the cw network. A police detective communicates through a radio with her father who died in 1995 to solve crimes. It's at 8.1 score on imdb.

Pat is right. Signal is actually a remake of that movie Frequency n it also seemed similar to another Hong Kong older drama "Unstuck in Time" lead cast by Roger Kwok and etc if I remembered correctly. All these are fantasy crimeas as the leads communicate via some device n try to change the past. But Korean movie Memories Of Murder is only on solving the real serial killer crime with NO fantasy genre at all.

I watched Memories of Murder and in no way was Signal a "cheap" knock-off of it. Signal elevated the story way way more and then some. Plus the murder mystery in the movie was just one of the many mysteries solved in Signal so it's not like the whole drama was based on it.
With that said, the movie is a good watch too.

I am on the verge of giving up on K2 after seeing ep10. Just when you think they can't come up with even stupider plot devices, they do. So many characters just keep doing really stupid things for no reason, and the entire premise is just looking really screwed up - unless you really think that all politics in Korea comes down to who is the last one alive.

Enjoyed Signal and look forward to watching again. It was original in the way it used past, present, and future and told the story which was inspired by real life crime, in a new way. Loved it.
Woman With a Suitcase ratings going up yes! Fantastic is a def must watch, can't continue with K4, not sticking to it, because I really need it to be about action and adventure only, romance even the hint of it does not work for me.

I feel like dropping JI now as it is messy n lead gal is fickle minded. It doen't help as I'm also another fickle minded person when it comes to kdramalamd and I don't know what to do with my life other than kdramalamd too.
