Cinderella and the Four Knights: Episode 16 (Final)
by CandidClown
The final hour has arrived, and our Cinderella is going to need every minute of it to find her happy ending. When Ha-won’s real family calls for help, it comes down to her to decide whether to stand by the family she’s made, or the one she was born into. Her valiant knights must also figure out the paths their own lives should take, which means it’s time to hang onto your glass slippers, folks — we’re almost there.
FINAL EPISODE RECAP
We pick up right where we left off in the Hanuel Group boardroom. The results of the vote are in: 46% for ousting Grandpa Kang, 52% against it. Hwa-ja’s face freezes in shock, and Hyun-min breaks into a relieved smile. Looks like Grandpa will remain as Chairman.
Meanwhile, there’s trouble in Ji-woon’s surgery room, as all the doctors frantically work amidst bloody rags and the chorus of beeping machines.
Back in the boardroom, Hwa-ja and Bodyguard Lee are the only ones left. Hwa-ja angrily asks why he did it, knowing that his vote swung the results. Resigned, Lee answers, “This was the only way that I could stop you.” Hwa-ja yells back that he betrayed his own mother to protect Grandpa Kang and “those brats” before storming out of the room.
Ha-won is pacing outside the surgery room when Hyun-min runs up. Just as she tells him that Ji-woon still hasn’t come out of surgery, Grandpa’s doctor emerges. He informs them that Grandpa Kang’s surgery was a success, but sadly, Ji-woon fell into shock.
The doctor reveals Ji-woon’s allergy to general anesthesia, telling them that Ji-woon was fully aware this might happen and still wanted to proceed regardless.
Hyun-min asks if Ji-woon will wake up, but the doctor can only answer that they’ll have to monitor him closely. Ha-won half-collapses in shock, and Hyun-min catches her as they both reel from the news.
Grandpa awakens with Seo-woo and Hyun-min around him. The doctor says the transplant was a success, but Grandpa wants to know if Ji-woon is alright. At Hyun-min’s head shake, the doctor lies that Ji-woon is in another room recovering.
Hooked up to a number of machines, Ji-woon lies unconscious with Ha-won by his side. Seo-woo joins her and Ha-won admits that she never once considered that Ji-woon would leave her. She was always worried about when she’d have to leave him, but now, all she can think about are all the things they never got to do together.
Ha-won says that her biggest regret is that she never even got to tell him how she truly felt, but Seo-woo reassures her that Ji-woon probably knew.
Grandpa Kang coldly accepts Bodyguard Lee’s resignation, and tells him to deliver divorce papers to Hwa-ja. Lee apologizes and comes clean that Hwa-ja is his mother, shocking Grandpa. Lee takes the blame for everything, asks Grandpa not to punish his mother, and thanks him for everything. Lee bows deeply to Grandpa and leaves.
Bodyguard Lee runs into Hyun-min in the hallway, who snidely remarks that Lee doesn’t have the right to face Grandpa. He enters the room and leaves Lee alone in the hallway looking like a kicked puppy.
Still by Ji-woon’s side, Ha-won tells his unconscious form of how she came to like him. She chuckles that he was a real asshole in the beginning, but whenever she was in trouble, he was always there. Soon, she started looking for him whenever she needed help, and before she knew it, she only had eyes for him.
Now that he’s recovered, Grandpa finds out the truth about Ji-woon’s condition, and Hyun-min wheels him to Ji-woon’s room. Both Hyun-min and Ha-won step back as Grandpa gazes sadly at his comatose grandson.
Grandpa has Ha-won wheel him back to his room, and along the way, he says that he thought she would have left by now. Ha-won apologizes, saying that she was going to leave right after the surgery, but now she asks to stay. She tells Grandpa that she doesn’t care about her future, or money, she just wants to stay by Ji-woon’s side.
Turning serious, Grandpa asks, “Even if you find yourself in a position where you really need money, even if you get a chance to escape your dreary reality, do you think you’ll still be able to give up on everything and choose Ji-woon?” He says that if she can’t take responsibility for her feelings till the end, then she should stop now.
Over the next few days, Grandpa watches from afar as Ha-won stays by Ji-woon’s side, taking care of him.
Ha-won meets with Stepmom and Stepsis who tell her that Dad fell asleep at the wheel and caused an accident. He’s unhurt, but the other driver was badly injured, and the victim’s family is threatening to put Dad in jail unless they settle, demanding six million won (roughly $6,000).
Stepmom whimpers that they don’t have that kind of money, and begs Ha-won to use her Hanuel Group connections to get it. When Ha-won hesitates, Stepsis yells at her for worrying about someone else’s grandfather when her own family is in trouble.
As she walks back to the hospital, Ha-won gets the call that Ji-woon woke up. Smiling, she runs back to the hospital, but stops when she sees Hyun-min wheeling Grandpa into Ji-woon’s room. She remembers Grandpa’s words about choosing Ji-woon over money and realizes that, with her family in financial trouble, she can’t choose Ji-woon.
In the room, Grandpa apologizes to the semi-conscious Ji-woon. Looking around, Ji-woon asks after Ha-won… who’s standing out of sight, just outside the door. She cries as she softly thanks him for waking up.
Hwa-ja visits Grandpa and asks him to just hear her out. She’s signed the divorce papers and apologizes for causing trouble while he was sleeping, leaving the papers and ring on the table. Grandpa gruffly asks if she ever felt any love for him. She answers that she did, and this all started because she loved him. But when she saw Bodyguard Lee, her maternal instincts kicked in.
Hwa-ja says this was just her way of loving her son and that she has no regrets, though she feels sorry towards Grandpa Kang. Grandpa snaps that she can just spend the rest of her life feeling sorry then. Hwa-ja agrees, but asks him to keep hating just her, and not blame her son for her wrongdoings. She says that Lee protected Grandpa and his company, to the point of betraying his own mother.
As she walks out of the room, Hyun-min stands in the hallway, having heard everything.
After sending in the settlement money, Ha-won picks her father up at the police station. She promises that she got the money honestly from her Sky House part-time gig, and her relieved father holds her hand, telling her to come home.
Ji-woon returns to Sky House and goes straight to Ha-won’s empty room. He asks Ms. Beolgyo where Ha-won went, but she’s just as surprised to hear the Ha-won wasn’t at the hospital with him.
Ha-won and her dad get off the bus together, right where Ji-woon is waiting for his wayward Cinderella. Dad notes the tense stares and awkwardly departs, leaving his daughter to her boy problems.
Alone together, Ji-woon confronts Ha-won. He says that he waited for her and missed her like crazy. Ha-won firmly responds that she told him before: This surgery was her final mission, and she stayed with him the night before since he was so nervous. But Ji-woon isn’t buying it, “When you were with me, the look in your eyes, your smile, and your actions, they were all genuine.”
Fumbling for another reason, Ha-won tries to say that she just stayed with him for money, but Ji-woon retorts that he already told her he doesn’t care what her reasons are, just as long as she stays by his side. Ha-won argues that it matters to her, and that she doesn’t fit into his world, which is why she chose her future over him.
As Ha-won turns away, Ji-woon grabs her, promising that he’ll leave Hanuel group. Ha-won snaps that he just reconciled with his grandfather, and now he wants to throw that away? She yells, “You live in a resplendent world that others dream of living in, but all you do is throw fits and get angry!” Word.
Ha-won starts to walk way again, but Ji-woon calls out her name, nearly begging her as he says that he can’t live without her. With tears in his eyes, he says that losing her is the same as losing everything. Ha-won is barely holding in her own tears, but she still walks away without looking back, leaving Ji-woon devastated.
Arriving home, Ha-won collapses in the entryway. Sobbing her heart out as she remembers all their times together, she thinks, “I’m sorry that I keep running away. You’ve always approached me first, and yet…”
Now that Grandpa Kang is back to full health, Seo-woo has returned to work. His manager gives him a hefty schedule, warning him not to plan on sleeping for the next few weeks. Seo-woo chooses that moment to tell him that he’s planning to return to his early days of traveling on foot and performing on the streets. Heh, the poor manager looks like he’s about to have a heart attack.
Hyun-min meets Hye-ji at a café, but instead of joining her inside, he sits just outside and smooches the window between them.
Hye-ji runs out to him, and Hyun-min says that from now on, he’s going to kiss her, hug her, and hold her hand whenever he wants. He says he’ll never let her go, and she promises to never leave as well. They share a real kiss (with actual lip movement this time!).
Out on the Sky House grounds, Ji-woon broods. Seo-woo joins him and is aghast to hear that Ha-won left him. Ji-woon blames himself for giving her such a hard time, and says that if being with him was really so difficult for her, then he should let her go.
Seo-woo points out that Ha-won probably feels the same, and relates how Ha-won had said she that she’d always thought she’d have to leave Ji-woon someday for his own sake. Seo-woo says that Ha-won must like Ji-woon a lot, and warns him not to let her get away.
His words penetrate the brooding, and Ji-woon thanks his cousin before striding away with purpose. Seo-woo watches him go, and murmurs sadly, “You stole my first love away from me, so be good to her.” Oh, sweetie.
Ji-woon barges into Grandpa Kang’s office and demands to know what Grandpa said to Ha-won to make her leave. Grandpa responds that he did it for Ji-woon’s future, but Ji-woon argues that Grandpa’s doing the same thing to Ha-won that he did to his mother.
In a softer voice, Ji-woon says he knows that Grandpa regrets losing his own son (Ji-woon’s father), and asks if he wants to add to that regret by losing Ji-woon as well. Dropping to his knees, Ji-woon begs for Grandpa’s blessing, saying he can’t breathe without Ha-won.
That night, Grandpa thinks back on how Ha-won cared for Ji-woon in the hospital.
With Dad freshly sprung from the police station, Ha-won, Stepmom, and Stepsis treat him out to a tofu dinner. Ha-won looks nervously at the food and cautiously reaches towards a dish, when Stepmom actually pushes the plate closer to Ha-won.
Even Stepsis seems determined to be nice, pushing the same dish towards Ha-won and telling her to eat up. Ha-won sweetly puts a piece of food on Stepsis’ rice, and the former mean girl looks touched. And all it took was six million won.
Grandpa Kang calls Ha-won to meet, saying that everyone at Sky House is worried that she left without saying a word. He asks what Ha-won’s impressions are of his grandsons after living with them for several months, and Ha-won is happy to report that Hyun-min and Seo-woo are not the player and good-for-nothing that Grandpa believed them to be.
When Grandpa asks for her impression of Ji-woon, Ha-won’s face falls. Smiling gently, Grandpa says that it’s all up to the two of them now: He gives them his blessing. He tells her that Ji-woon seems to miss her very much, but Ha-won hesitates. She says she realized that when it really came down to it that Grandpa was right, and she chose money over Ji-woon. Because of that, she’s the one who ran from Ji-woon, and it isn’t anyone’s fault but her own. Noble idiot to the end, I see.
Grandpa doesn’t push, but he does say that Ha-won is welcome to come back to Sky House whenever she wants.
Seo-woo heads out, guitar in hand, to return to his roots as a street performer. Before he can go five steps, he’s joined by his ever-faithful manager. Determined to protect his artist (from the hordes of fans that will assault him for his pretty face), his manager plans to accompany him. Also joining them is none other than Ja-young, who bounds up happily. With a shared “Fighting!” Ja-young and the manager grab Seo-woo’s guitar and backpack and march forth, a smiling Seo-woo following behind.
Grandpa gives Ji-woon his father’s ring, telling him that Ji-woon’s parents exchanged rings before Grandpa split them apart, and Ji-woon’s mother should have had a similar ring. Ji-woon starts to say that she never wore one, but stops when he sees his father’s ring. Recognizing the design, he recalls Ha-won’s mother’s ring, and how their moms died on the same day.
Hyun-min meets Ha-won, bringing the rest of her things from Sky House. He playfully snarks at her that it isn’t like she committed some grave sin, yet she left her room empty and made him bring her belongings. Their exchange is friendly and easy, as Ha-won tells him that he and Hye-ji suit each other. Hyun-min asks, “What about you two, then? This is about Kang Ji-woon, right? You nursed the hell out of him, so why did you run away when he woke up?”
Hyun-min plops a shoebox on Ha-won’s lap, telling her they’re the shoes that she dropped (or rather, chucked at Hyun-min’s head) when she ran from Grandpa’s wedding. He scoffs, “Who do you think you are? Cinderella? Leaving behind shoes like that.” Ha-won gives the shoes back, saying they aren’t hers, but Hyun-min just passes the shoes/hot potato right back, asserting that they are.
In all seriousness, Hyun-min tells Ha-won that whenever she’s ready, she should wear these shoes when she’s going to the person she likes. He says her feelings for Ji-woon are obvious, and advises her not to run from them.
Ji-woon does some digging to find out about his mother’s death, and finds out that someone has been looking for him. Ji-woon waits nervously at a café to meet the person, but it’s Ha-won’s dad who walks in. The two recognize each other from the bus stop the other day.
Dad tells Ji-woon that Ha-won had thought the ring/necklace belonged to her mother, when it actually belonged to the woman that she died trying to save. The woman had begged Ha-won’s mother to give the ring to her son, and Ha-won’s mom had died while clutching it.
Realizing that both their mothers died together, Dad remarks that Ji-woon and Ha-won’s relationship must run deep, especially since they used the same funeral home for both woman. This grabs Ji-woon’s attention.
As Ji-woon drives away from the café, he smiles at the memory of when he returned Ha-won’s white roses to her (from when she dropped them in the Sky House stream). It turns out that this was not the first time that Ji-woon gave flowers to Ha-won.
Going into an even earlier flashback, Ji-woon remembers his mother’s funeral and how, as a child, he’d given a white rose to a crying girl his own age who had also lost her mother: Ha-won. Little Ji-woon had sat with the Little Ha-won and told her that if she looked up through her hands at the stars, then she could see her mother’s face.
After the funeral was over, Little Ji-woon had given Little Ha-won his mourning arm band, and she had gifted him with her own mourning hair ribbon. Both children had promised to return the items one day, smiling at each other. Back in the present, Ji-woon grins and speeds off.
In her room, Ha-won considers the Cinderella shoes and Hyun-min’s words about wearing them when she goes to the person she likes.
Ha-won’s dad calls to tell her that he returned her mother’s ring to its rightful owner, who turned out to be Ji-woon. Ha-won is dumbfounded, and her dad asks if she likes this boy.
We cut to a car screeching to a halt and a pair of sneaker-clad feet emerging, while at the top of a stair case, the red Cinderella shoes adorn a young woman’s feet. Panning up, we see that it’s Ji-woon at the base of a staircase, and Ha-won standing up at the top, wearing her Cinderella shoes as she goes to the boy she likes.
Ha-won and Ji-woon smile at each other, and begin to descend/ascend the stairs, as Dad’s voice continues, “I don’t know if it was a good or bad twist of fate, but your mother had that ring in her hand when she died. And you kept that on you for ten years after that. And there’s the fact that we held our funerals at the same place too. I don’t think that this was all just mere coincidence.”
The two meet in the middle, and Ji-woon opens his hand to reveal Little Ha-won’s mourning hair ribbon, and Ha-won holds out Little Ji-woon’s mourning band. Ji-woon slides his mother’s ring on Ha-won’s finger, and tells her to think of him when she looks at it from now on. Ha-won slips Ji-woon’s father’s ring on his hand in return.
They smile at each other, then Ji-woon reaches out and pulls Ha-won in for a deep kiss. Ha-won kisses him back, and right below, the two pairs of shoes meet. (Wow, okay, I vote this couple does all the kissing from now on – Hyun-min and Hye-ji can just smile at each other.)
Seo-woo seems to have found his happiness, singing his heart out to a crowd of fans while Ja-young dances cutely beside him.
Bodyguard Lee has also found another road to walk, teaching at a taekwondo dojo. Hyun-min tracks him down and asks if Lee really isn’t coming back. When Lee says he doesn’t have the right to go back, Hyun-min apologizes for not believing in him until the end.
Hyun-min cajoles Lee to come home, saying that Grandpa is waiting for him. Aww, even the stoic bodyguard smiles a bit at that.
Hwa-ja has fallen a long way from being Hanuel Group’s madam, and we find her trying to sell insurance plans at a local café. Just as a potential clients runs off, Hwa-ja is surprised by a bouquet of flowers, presented to her on bended knee by Grandpa Kang. Ugh, really? You’re taking her back?
Grandpa tells Hwa-ja that he made a mistake with his own children, believing that he always knew best, and almost made the same mistake with his grandchildren. He says he doesn’t want to live with regrets for the rest of his life.
Hyun-min and Hye-ji go together to visit the tree where her brother is buried. Hyun-min tells Hye-ji’s brother that he’s been thinking about him a lot these last ten years, but now he’s only going to think about Hye-ji, and promises to love Hye-ji in her brother’s stead.
Afterwards, Hyun-min and Hye-ji walk back, sharing some smiles and cute kisses.
Ji-woon and Ha-won have fun taking adorable pictures of each other. Ha-won is just about to take Ji-woon’s picture when he notices that her ring in gone. Ha-won remembers that she took it off to help Ms. Beolgyo and retrieves it from her pocket, but Ji-woon pouts that he never takes his off.
Ha-won assures him that she’s putting it on right now and will never take it off again, but Ji-woon goes into full drama queen mode. Ha-won just sighs as he rants that she can just throw the ring away if she wants; furthermore, he’s forbidding physical contact for an entire month, so she better not get close to him. Ha-won just scoffs and asks if he’s being grumpy again, muttering that it’s like dating a little kid.
Getting close to him, she says, “No touching? Let’s just see who suffers more from that,” then strides away. (PFFT.) Ji-woon figures out pretty quickly who would suffer more and darts after his lady love. Wrapping her in his arms, Ji-woon slides her ring back on her finger and whispers, “I love you, Eun Ha-won.”
Sometime later, Hyun-min, Hye-ji, Seo-woo, Bodyguard Lee, and even Ja-young enjoy a picnic together. Seo-woo plays his guitar with Ja-young admiring close by, and Hyun-min and Hye-ji are busy being lovey-dovey while Lee smiles contentedly.
The group is joined by Ha-won and Ji-woon, who plop down and show off their matching rings. As everyone jokes and laughs with one another, we slowly pan out to see the happy family that our knights have become, and the Cinderella who brought them all together.
COMMENTS
So, that’s that. Kudos to the ones who made it through to the end, and to those who stopped midway, well, you may have had the right idea.
All right, so the positive thoughts first: I loved our main characters for this drama, and the amazing chemistry they all shared. Or rather, the amazing chemistry that Ha-won seemed to have with everybody. In the beginning, most of us were gushing about Ha-won an Hyun-min’s connection to the point that I thought some casting directors should put serious thought into making these two actors the main leads in another drama. Then, Seo-woo’s plot stepped up a bit and we all got our hearts broken on his behalf as he slowly fell into a one-sided love with Cinderella. It was painful but moving, and Lee Jung-shin did a great job portraying Seo-woo. However, my favorite parts of the drama were the scenes with Ha-won and Ji-woon. I might be in the minority on this, but I could feel the chemistry between the characters right from the beginning. Granted, it didn’t really get interesting until Ji-woon loosened up a bit, but their easy banter and sideways glares were always entertaining. Because it was the characters that mainly drew me in, I’m glad that we ended with our main group all together, laughing and happy. At the end of the day, this show was about creating a family out of strangers (even those related by blood), and it succeeded.
That being said, while the characters themselves were great, their resolutions left a lot to be desired. Hyun-min ended up with Hye-ji after all. None of us wanted it, but I suppose it was inevitable. At least he looks happy, but I wish he had done a lot more to protect his grandfather’s position than just hold a meeting (especially since the show took pains to point out his genius intellect), but at least he stepped up. Poor Bodyguard Lee spent the second half of this drama being forced to lie for the sake of the woman who birthed and abandoned him, only to have everyone he fought to protect turn him into the villain. Thank goodness he was laughing in that last scene or I might have to recommend his room be checked for sharp objects. Seo-woo had the strangest ending of all, since it seemed like he went backwards in his character progression. He went back to street performing, though I’m really not sure why. Yes he had a busy schedule, but it seemed like he really enjoyed his work. Was he unhappy with fame? Did I miss something? Plus, Grandpa called him a good-for-nothing when he was a top star, what happens now that he’s gone back to singing on the street for chump change?
I admit to being very disappointed in how the storylines for Stepmom and Stepsis ended. The two of them may have been adorably diabolical, but if you strip away all the cuteness, they were lazy, self-centered, and downright cruel. Aside from them sleeping on the porch and trying to sell their bags for spending money, the two of them never repented for the hardships that they put Ha-won through. I could maybe accept some kind of turnaround for them if they’d been working towards forgiveness for at least a few episodes, but they were sly and sneaky right up until the end. When Dad got into the accident, they went straight to Ha-won for money, and Stepsis even yelled at her when she hesitated. What happened to that college fund that Stepmom had saved up for Stepsis? The one that she’s never going to use since she’s been so busy try to get an MRS degree? Instead, they took the easy way out by taking advantage of Ha-won, again. Because of this, the “big happy family dinner” not only wasn’t believable, but it was almost offensive to see Ha-won smiling with these two women after everything they put her through.
I’m not even sure what was going through Grandpa Kang’s head when he decided to take Hwa-ja back – can a liver transplant affect your reasoning skills? I mean, the woman actually looked disappointed when Hyun-min said that Ji-woon was a donor match — did she actually want her husband to die? It was just another case of redemption that was haphazardly put together as a closing afterthought.
One last complaint has got to be that hastily patched together childhood story of Ha-won and Ji-woon. I almost want to ignore that it even happened, since it made me feel like I was watching an entirely different drama for the latter half of the finale. We’d been going along with the typical boy meets girl story, and then suddenly switched to “fated since childhood” in the last hour. Sure, we knew that their mothers had a connection, but to introduce a childhood meeting where they promised to find each other one day in the last episode was just distracting. It wasn’t a twist, it was a hard left into oncoming traffic. Maybe if they had hinted at the armband or hair ribbon in earlier episodes, then it would’ve been easier to accept, but this was too much, too late. The only thing I can figure is the writers were trying to squeeze just one more drama trope in there.
It seems like there were so many things that this show could have done, but didn’t. It could have played more with the Cinderella theme. It could have explored more into the side characters (like Seo-woo and his manager, or what really happened with Ji-woon’s parents). It could have given Ha-won more than two missions! Also, who was named Grandpa’s heir? Wasn’t that what started Ha-won’s introduction to Sky House to begin with, to find a suitable heir amongst Grandpa’s grandsons? There were so many plot lines that were started in this drama, but they either fizzled out or just went unanswered. Maybe instead of all the flashbacks, we could have had a few more answers.
Still, focusing on the good aspects and ignoring a rather patched ending, this show was an altogether heart-warming piece of fluff. Much as I wish I could change a few things, I can’t deny that I will be going back to rewatching a number of favorite scenes (like a certain bodyguard upchucking all over the place). It wasn’t a classic Cinderella tale – or even really a Cinderella tale at all – but it was fun. And sometimes, that’s all you can ask for.

We deserve applause to get through this kind of Tv show. 6.5 out of 10.
Writer and even Author Tainted the word 'Family' with their out of world abusive creativity. Sound Director wanted to give some competition to both and ruined most of the forced-cliched romantic scenes.
All out strike. No viewer could escape this kind of travesty.
Hyun Min of 1st 6 episodes was good though.

I sure agree. I was shipping hyun min and ha won at first and their interaction is what kept me watching this and recommending to my friends. But it got boring after Hyun Min suddenly changed interest.
Another thing I didnt like is when Ha Won is chasing Ji Woon. Her character was introduced as someone strong and would do anything to finish her studies. It seems so strange that I didnt feel that any hesitation in falling for Ji Woon when all along she is aware that there is a contract that she shouldnt fall in love or have a relationship with the guys. Yeah sometimes she reminds herself that she shouldnt but I didnt see much effort. It seemed that she wanted Ji-woon more than finishing school.

I feel apologetic to all the fans of this drama when I say how glad I am it's finally over. I think all the actors (with the exception of Je-Hi character) did a credible job with some very poor material. It was badly written and had mediocre direction. Plus that dam***@@@##*d repetitive song made me want to scream and go running out of the room...not unlike listening to "It's A Small Small World" on the Disneyland ride. It was like, let me outta here!
Anyway, I watched this for Jung Il Woo and Park So Dam and wasn't disappointed by them. The drama overall was just ...meh. On to better things now.

Music was too loud that sometimes i couldn't even hear what Actors were saying.
I also kept on watching because of Park So Dam. I just like Her Voice. And as noticed earlier by many Her Voice is quite clear. Jung Il Woo's chemistry with Park So Dam was quite evident and that all made their scenes shine but then They had no story and no personality characters to work out with.
I think even source novel is c grade material.

Yeah, I finished this drama but I wouldn't mind asking my 16 hrs back.
I LOVE JIW and that allow me to watch it past the 1st few epi when he was too grumpy pants.
Now that you have brought up Disney, I almost think this drama shouldn't have named Cinderella and her 4 Knights. For the earlier episodes, it was more like Snow White with HM as sleepy, SW as happy and JW as grumpy ( Body guard was like Doc- wise and kind).
This drama was meh and yes, too many plot-holes to be filled.... No rewatching for me. Sorry, JIW.

You rated it much higher than I would - would give it 3.5 at best, and 2 of those just for PSD's guts in putting up with this travesty.
I sort of watched most of it - though with about 80% fast forwarded. It was just so incoherent and full of plot holes and "who the hell would ever actually DO that" stuff that it was almost fun to watch just so I could practice my cringes.

It was horrible in every department and i was like who gave this writer a job?
6 is C- and 6.5 is C. so i already gave this show the lowest score possible. I think some creative out there can wrap all 16 episodes in 1 hour format and we won't lose anything. Some please do it on youtube.
You are completely right about Park So Dam.

All I could think when it finished was "Well, at least it was better than Heirs!" And that's not saying much. I can't believe I watched every. single. episode. WTH was I thinking?

i couldn't watch this past the first few episodes. checked the final recap today to know I didn't miss out on anything, and it turns out I didn't. What a waste of a pretty and talented cast!
What a waste of Hyun Min's promising character! And the typical swan dive for a spunky heroine! This is one show I really had high expectations of and that ended up disappointing me sorely ;_; boooo

I honestly loved the OST because it always made me laugh with the nonchalant over-abuse of that "I feel your heart" song.
Despite all the trappings of older/cliched dramas, the show felt really comfortable, like a pair of fluffy PJs at the end of a hard day. We always knew what to expect, and it always delivered - annoying second female leads, pointless power struggles, inheritance plots, noble idiocy, exaggeratedly evil family members and all.
And I think we all kinda bonded in shared bitching about the show :D.

Totally agree with CandidClown's comments. So many could have beens with this show.
I was really interested in the first few episodes then just continued watching because of JungIlWoo...
Too many tropes, too many angst, too many subplots that did not get resolved.

This drama truly endangered my neck, I shook my head so much. Show is a physical hazard and should be labeled as such.
Has there ever been a drama with more comments of "I don't know why I'm still watching this?" Well, we stuck it out to the end and the answer NEVER CAME.
CandidClown and chickachunga (and catocat), you're so much nicer than I am. I'm afraid others may still watch it with a 6.5, it deserves a 4 at best! Let's save the others while we still can!!!

Yeah - there was just one more drama (out of over 200 watched) that I kept asking myself, "Why am I watching this?" and it was My Loveable Girl with Rain and Krystal. Rain was/is my first k-pop/k-drama crush and I still love him but I felt SO SORRY for him in that drama that I almost cried. How could he know when he signed on that it would be so horrible? I dunno...now Cinderella joins Loveable Girl in the regrettable category on my excel list. I'm so glad Park So Dam did Beautiful Mind and Jung Il Woo is bound to return to great stuff...even if just mindless CVs or reality shows (yay-his turn on Running Man!)....but good golly Miss Molly, I feel almost damaged and dwindled by C&t4Ks.

What was more laughable than the redemption of the unworthy characters (i.e. step family, Hwa-Ja, Hye-ji) was the last-minute fated to love you plot between Ji-Woon and Ha-won. Absolutely unnecessary. I rolled my eyes through this last episode. Very annoyed by Seo-woo's resolution and the fact that Bodyguard Lee is alone at the end. He deserves more than this... so much more.

I shuddered at the childhood scene too. I shuddered so bad, with mouth agape too wide I thought my jaws were going to get dislocated. LOL. CandidClown was right: if only the show had given us hints earlier about the clip or the armband--like, c'mon! Much of Ji-woon's earlier scenes showed him brooding in his batcave and pretending to sort through random boxes there! They could've at least captured him caressing said hair clip! And as for Ha-won's part, they could've included the armband among her stuff that got soaked in the faux Sky House lake! Like, #$@)@)@)@)@!!! Haha.
And what's with Seo-woo busking at the end of the drama? He never had any problem with his career!!! LOL.
*sigh* I will just do my best to think only of the good parts; namely, Ja-young and her bubbliness, Seo-woo and his charm, Smexytary Lee and his cooking, and Ji-woon and Ha-won's kissing bits.

I also became frustrated when the show stopped delivering what it had promised. I watched the last episode, and I was sad when I saw how brilliant the Kang cousins were together. Why did I have to wait sixteen episodes for that again? Ha-won was supposed to make them a family, but that fact had been deemed unimportant since episode six. I'm not impressed, since I was deprived of potentially epic bromance.

Imagine if they just had forgone Hye Ji character completely...
it would have left room for actual plot development :
- how did the brothers all die?
- what are the relationship of each boys with their mother?
- how truly geeeeenius is Hyun-Min and how does he become a true heir ?
and also no defeated Hyun Min and more potential bromance shenanigans !

I don't think the drama was that bad (if we are ignoring the Hyeji scenes). If they would have left Hyeji out they could have filled all the plot holes.

Even in kids fairy tale ,evil gets punished.. How did this show ended up giving all of them a happy ending... Why???
They left the potential bromance and rubbed our face with an unnecessary love square that never existed...???

Taking back evil corporate takeover wife --- even worse than forgiving evil step-mom & step-sis.
I know the show was trying to be all warm-and-fuzzy and uplifting and nice with all the happy endings, but part of a really happy ending is seeing the evil bastards finally get what they deserve. I wanted that more than I wanted picnics and kissing :(
Re forgiving bad dad the truck driver -- is he perhaps the driver of the Truck of Doom ?? I mean he did hit somebody in the final episode. Maybe staying on his bad side wouldn't be such a smart move, so I can forgive forgiving him.

Definitely very similar to AtaDan! :D I even guessed from early eps that the nice Secretary/Bodyguard would have a sudden Corporate Takeover arc.
On the plus side, Bodyguard Lee didn't really push through with taking away the company. But on the downside, he didn't get to wear AtaDan's fabulous costume in the final ep.

I didn't hate the show, but I also never expected it to be anything other than what it was...a cute, somewhat throwback, piece of fluff that pretty much communicated every plot twist miles in advance. It was a nice tension-reliever during the time that the airing of this show and W overlapped. The two leads had good chemistry, and the female lead had good chemistry with pretty much everyone. Everything wrapped up neatly tied in a bow, with everyone paired off except poor Mr. Bodyguard (although it was a relief that the blind date setup between him and the heroine's stepsister never happened).

I KNEW IT! I KNEW THEY WERE CHILDHOOD LOVERS! When they reached that flashback of them as children, I legit bursted out laughing. This show never disappoints!
Sooooo Thoughts:
Park So Dam is seriously super cute and that hairstyle is very flattering. Plus when she smiles...*cue angel army choir* jjang.
Remember that Imagination kiss of Hyun Min and Ha Won? Super hotter than the real thing btw Hyun Min and Hye Ji. But I guess maybe its a commentary about how we often imaging and have unrealistic expectations in life and we delude our selves that things are better than they really are ( Hyun Min convincing himself that kissing Hye Ji is the best thing since slice bread). *trying to find deep reasons for HM-HJ ship*
I don't like ANYBODY in Ha Won's family and that includes that jackass dad! So you thought your wife had and affair and you raised the child for what, eighteen years without any affection and just couldn't wait to ditch her when she turned legal? Ha Won is a saint. Now we know why they aggressively shoved that angel choir music, Ha Won is an angel in disguise with a few rebel streaks like beer drinking and an affinity for deep kisses in PG shows.
I'm so great full that Park So Dam is a responsive kisser! At least it was worth it. Cheers! Will be back with more thoughts ( I know, I know)!

Just a stray comment: Park So Dam looks like a female version of Il woo right down to the hair, they could pass as siblings.
I read Jung Il woo's Arirang interview where he said in the beginning episodes, he focused more on technique in acting while Park So Dam was more spontaneous, impromptu, and in the later episodes he was able to match his acting to hers to become more impromptu. It explains a lot. Especially why it feels that he was filming a different drama from everyone else in the first half of the series.
I just finished marathoning Moon Embracing The Sun for the nth time after two days of no sleep. And I have to say that drama and 49 Days were his best work. Sadly, he seems to have gone downhill since then. I say this as a huge fan of his, I even had a huge crush on him back in the day, so I mean this kindly. Jung Il woo is at his best when he IS spontaneous and playing quirky off beat characters. I do hope to see him in something better than Cinderella next time. Maybe action, or even a villein/serial killer. But he should leave the misunderstood chaebol rom com scene. It's been done to death, and it no longer suits him. Then lose the hair bangs, fried hair, no socks, pencil thin trouser look and reinvent his image.
Lastly, throw the acting "technique" out the window. If it leads to performances like Cinderella's we can very well do without it.
Whew! Who knew I had a lot to say about this subject?

Like Yoo Yeon Seok and Kang So Ra, I'd like to see Jung Il Woo and Park So-Dam in another drama together. This drama wasn't the best this pair could do.
My main concern though is that this drama will be a score for the Pro-live shooting/filming camp. The quality of this particular drama rested squarely on the shoulders of the director and writer. They had the time to make better decisions and failed to do so. The plot of this drama was so rudimentary that almost anyone could have written/directed because it was fool-proof.
Ultimately, C4K will be a gateway drama for a lot of new drama viewers. Its just enough cute to get someone's interest peeked without doing anything seriously wrong to turn them away from the entire genre.

I'm glad it ended with them all happy together, but what happened to the plot? What happened to the missions? What happened to choosing an heir?
And to be honest, I’m particularly disappointed in what happened to Yoon-sung. A while ago I read a translation of his character description from the official website, and it revealed things about him that never ended up being in the show. I feel like his storyline was really condensed from what it sounds like it was supposed to be.
Also, I liked his friendship with Ha-won, so I was disappointed that that just disappeared.
I feel like this drama in the beginning was at least trying to be ambitious with a bunch of storylines, but they gave up and decided to mainly focus on the love square. The last couple of episodes especially just seemed like the writing was rushed. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ha-won and Ji-woon knowing each as kids was a pretty last minute decision.
Ji-woon and Ha-won became kinda cute, Seo-woo was always cute, I liked Yoon-sung and his smile, and there are some scenes I'll probably re-watch, but overall I’m disappointed with this drama.
I think my favorite thing about it is that it introduced me to some actors I now like. (I'm pretty new to watching korean dramas.) I hope they find new dramas to be in soon.

First time commenting here . Love for dramas came because of boys over flowers . That was a hot mess but atleast they made some sense story wise . This was a cute mess and didn't make sense whatsoever with hye ji given more importance than ha won . And the whole story could have finished in an hour than making it a 16 hour ott mess .
Anyways love JIW and PSD and hope they come back in a cityhunter type of story
PS did anyone notice that one song played in the background when Hyun min and hye ji kissed was from boys over flowers
I wish park so dam was in boys over flowers . She's so much better than the original actress who played that

Another thing I was super confused about was why was it okay for Hyun-min and Hye-ji to date at all in the first place? Why didn't Grandpa have any issues with them? I figured that maybe since they were childhood friends, she came from a good family. Except then she went broke and had to live with them. So again, why?
Also, I'm not sure what I'm most upset by:
1. Hyun-min ended up with Hye-ji
2. Grandpa randomly reconciled with his wife
3. Ha-won's dad and family didn't satisfactorily make up for what they did to her
4. Hye-ji crying for 75% of the show
5. The cruel reality that I watched this whole show and I don't know why. Maybe I was blinded by the eye candy? Maybe I went slightly delusional? Alas, another treacherous consequence of being a kdrama addict.

I ranted on the previous recap but I need to say it again-
The part about the anesthesia allergy was *face palm*
I don't expect medical realism in this kind of drama but to be SO COMPLETELY INACCURATE just annoys me.
Medical News Flash-
If we suspect an allergy to a particular anesthesia drug then We Don't Use It!!! ?
There are always alternatives.
And while there is always a possibility of anesthesia allergy during any surgery, it is rare and we won't know before hand. If we KNOW before hand we just WONT USE THE DRUG. We don't subject people to risks like this that are AVOIDABLE.
And as a small point, if your liver fails and you get a transplant, it will take A LONG WHILE to wake up. The liver is very important and liver failure is a terrible thing.
Ok. Thank you for letting me vent. Back to your drama watching regular programme.

I love you @ Michykdrama (and not just for your glorious MDBC's Gifs!). Thanks for pointing this out. I hate it when people who've had organ transplants -either donor or recipient - get up out of bed, get dressed and go home after a couple of days in k-dramas. Jeez, writers and PDs...WEEKS later is closer to truth. Can't you contribute to the general raising of IQ's instead of asking us to dumb ourselves down?

Haha aww thanks @lunatic4kd. ? I'm also annoyed because people end up with weird ideas about surgery and recovery and illnesses.
"You mean he won't wake up in a few minutes from his month long coma, and after 10 hour surgery?? But but but... I saw it in that drama!"
"Doctor doctor! Why didn't you talk to me more about anesthesia allergy? Is my risk very high? Will I end up not waking up? I have no Cinderella/Oppa to nurse me back to health you know!"
*bangs head repeatedly on table*

It also drives me nuts in K-dramas when someone is suddenly sick or injured and the co-star is yelling at them and shaking them (!) and the first thing is always a loud "Are you OK?" Well, no, idiot, I'm not OK and I'm not lying here to make YOU feel OK....um...yeah.

I know, right?!!! I started laughing when I saw him in bed after his transplant with just a saline iv. What? No ICU? No respirator? And he never had any jaundice or acsites, ever! It's a MIRACLE!!!

Haha. Yeah well that didn't annoy me that much because other than Beautiful Mind and Doctors I've not been impressed by Kdramas depicting medical conditions convincingly...
But the utter rubbish about the anesthesia just made me mad because people already know next to nothing about anesthesia (most people don't even know that it's a subspeciality of medicine at all), and this just adds more misconceptions on top of ignorance!
(If you haven't watched Beautiful Mind, then can I suggest you checking it out? The first 4 episodes are a bit narratively messy but it gets better after that. A lot more medically accurate than this ? And also has Park So Dam!)

I thought ... Michykdrama is gonna have a few things to say about this, can't wait! LOLOL. Pretty fantastic that Korea has a pre-surgery test for anesthesia allergies, and also they could get Grandpa to the OR with no need for even an oxygen hookup. Boy, wasn't he pink and hearty post-surgery with nothing but an IV? Sheeeeesh, I barely passed high school chemistry and even I know this sh*t is wrong.

Judging from the amount of eyerolls i did with this show, it's gonna take some time for my eye to be normal again. The funniest thing is, despite the 1001 complaints i have about the show (i do find it funny how the comments after the review is primarily complaints on the show haha. Goes to show how lacking it is), i am always back for more each week. As disappointed as i am, i must say that i still thoroughly enjoyed HW and JW's interactions (read: interactions only. Their story is still a no-go). I feel bad to the actress for saying this, but i really wish HJ's character never existed in the story. I didn't really get her purpose in the story other than so that HM get's to be with someone in the end.

I have to say, without hesitation, that I have now completely recovered from the trauma of watching this drama all the way through by reading the 30+ Beanie comments which have had me laughing and chortling out loud. I feel healed! Laughter is the best medicine! I love DramaBeans!

I now would like to share what I wish this drama could have been from the start.
Rather than Cinderella ending up with the brooding, fresh fella, the rich, playboy brat, or even the sweet, sensitive artist who never had a chance (sigh), she ended up with the hardworking, mature and caring body guard and they worked together to creatively, comedically, and happily shape up the family dynamic and bring out the love.
Does anyone else think that could have been refreshingly lovely?! I'm not saying that I wish it went this way with the characters the show actually had, or even the actors, but if Cinderella and the Four Knights were a different drama...it COULD have been that. This was my little brainchild from after I saw the trailer and before the drama began.
Sure, the actual drama was silly, and cute, and sweet, and formulaic, but I think it would have been very nice, and also unique and charming, if it went my alternate route.

Whew! Finally ended! Thanks for the last two recaps, CandidClown and chickchunga!
I'm glad it's over and everyone was happy at the end. I agree that the plot was all over the place and quite a few things were unresolved or not explored. I'll just say that I enjoyed the fluff for what it was and overall, it was a feel-good show. Even though the evil character redemptions were too easy, at least I liked seeing HW and JW together. The actors did what they could with the flimsy script; I really like PSD, JIW, AJH, and LJS. Bodyguard Lee was awesome until they tried to vilify him. But I had faith that he would not betray the boys. Well, guess that's a wrap!

Kudos indeed to those who watched all 16 episodes!
I watched the first 2 and after reading this final recap, it doesn't seem like I missed much.
Thank you, team DB, for saving me 14 hours!

There's a lot of plot holes in this drama but one of the biggest one for me is regarding the rings. I'm not sure if I'm missing something here...
Both Ha won and Jiwoon's mother died in the fire. Yet we know that Ji Woon's mum had begged Ha Won's mum to take the ring to Ji Woon?
Ha Won's mum's dojo partner had already mentioned that he didn't meet her when he saw the fire. So who was privvy to the conversation?

Wow , how a whole lot of you delved so much into the flaws of this drama, of getting angry, dissapointed with the run away actual plot, rush and filmsy script , boring, wasted time in watching this drama. If all the questionaire of why, how, what happen, where are put into the drama, it will definitely come to be 60 odd episodes. It will then become boring, dragging and deary drama. It's cinderella story -just a fairy tale, short, sweet and simple.
Like the recap mentioned by candidclown, focusing on the good aspects and ignoring the floppy patched ending, it was a heartwarming and fun drama.

Thank you so much Candidclown, Chickachunga and Catocat for recapping this drama.
It did have its flaws, a lot at that but all the same I enjoyed it cos it was a drama I looked forward to every week.
I don't mind rewatching and rewatching that final scene, secretary Lee smiling just warmed my heart, Jayoung is one of the very few fans that can get that close with ur favourite idol.

I don't really disagree with the general complaints about this show but at the same time I can't be bothered with them.
I enjoyed this drama so much that I went to the trouble of watching it live and I haven't been doing that ever since YAB.
I'm so used to casual watching and immediately moving on that I really missed having that feeling of anticipation for a drama...kind of embarrassing that this is the drama that gave me all of that, but oh well.
I think the characters and their dynamics were interesting and had the potential for a feel good longer family drama, but I was never in denial that this was just a fluffy and predictable romcom and in that case I think it delivered.
Still hope to see PSD and JIW in another drama cause they seriously have amazing chemistry and look super good together.

Amazed that it was the last two episodes that made them run waaaaay over time on the shoot. I think what must have happened was that the production company finally watched all the middle episodes, realized the writer and director were up a creek without a paddle, and threw other people at it to create an ending, any ending, please just make this end. And make them all happy in the end, no matter how implausible. And if they need to drop in new stuff (childhood flashbacks, noble idiocy, chasms of logic, etc), just do it.
The cast really held this together. It sure wasn’t the music, writing, director, or anything else I can think of. And all the quality smooches – they did not skimp on smooching. (JIW in profile puckering up to PSD on the hospital bed, aw.) I think the gifs and screenshots will live on far longer than the video.

This drama had so many problems there were many unanswered questions and plot lines. However it was fluffy and cute in places and the chemistry between Park Sodam and Jung Ilwoo is no joke! I hope they work together again soon! I loved their scenes together and I love PSD! I think this drama could have done so well they just needed to focus on the story lines that they introduced first like finding out who was the most suitable to be the heir of Haneul Group. The childhood between PSD and JIW was cute but so badly edited in! If it had been hinted earlier it would have been okay.
I feel like this drama had pacing issues, it went too slow at the beginning then everything seemed to happen all at once towards the end. Whether that was because the show should have been extended or bad writing (I feel it's a bit of both) it felt either too fast or too slow. Like when Hawon and Jiwoon got caught dating by Grandfather Kang it the SAME EPISODE! That really ticked me off, they made such a big deal out of the fact that they needed to hide the relationship but they got caught so quickly!

I mostly agree with this recap. Well, actually I do completely really, it's just that (and maybe I'm the only person who feels this way), I was kinda hoping something would happen between Lee Yoon Sung... especially in the beginning there were these little moments between him and Ha Won. I think I would've liked him more as a second lead than Hyun Min, who wasn't really much of a second lead...since he basically did everything to forget Hye Ji or make her jealous. Seo Woo was adorable too though.
I made it through the whole series, sorta, I skipped quite a bit, mainly Hye Ji scenes since I really didn't like her character.
The most hilarious thing for me in this drama was back in episode 3, Ha won was skyping with Grandpa and he was holding his cell phone one minute, but the next it was floating! It's about 26:45 into the episode! XD
OMG GRANDPA IS A WIZARD! XD lol

I have to admit to fast forwarding all scenes including Hyun Min and Hye Ji form episode 8 onwards! That was pure nonsense and I had to skip it in order to finish the drama. I'm so disappointed with what they did with Hyun Min character, he was awesome in the first episodes and I thought we were going to have an interesting love triangle with him Jil Woo and Hae Won.
Grandpa must have some kind of brainwashing along with his liver transplant, otherwise I can not for the love of me comprehend why he forgive his exwife??!!!
This was a cute drama and I think I could have forgiven everything if they gave me my love triangle and erased Hye Ji, that was a totally unnecessary character that did nothing meaningful and was totally useless

Boy, am I late to the party or what?
Well we all have complaints but lemme add onto that 'cause man did this drama make me mad. I think I was one of the few who wasn't as sceptical about the teasers for this show, 'cause they were so bad to the point of being funny that I thought the show was gonna satirical on the trope as a whole. Boy, was I wrong? I'm just going to talk about the characters 'cause that's what really ruined the show for me.
Boy, these characters weren't that bad in the beginning. The things they valued contradicted their actions and that was an interesting thing to begin with but as the show went on, they all fell back into their moulds which sucks. I'm going to start off with Hawon, she starts out as this kickass character that takes no sass from nobody and is ready to kick your butt if you do something stupid which only really lasts about 2 episodes 'cause after that she just flutters and is like a hot potato jumping from one to another (except Seowoo). The main problem I had with Hawon was her approach to repairing a damaged family (tbh ol' pops isn't the sharpest tool in the shed either thinking that a stranger could bring a family together). For someone who values family and has felt the pain of being shoved to the side by your own blood I was very surprised to see how callous and insensitive she was to the feelings of the cousins. Like gurl, where your empathy at? Hyun-min actually wasn't a bad character until he got infected by the brooding syndrome and got shipped off to Hye-ji. Jiwoon was a character I also had a problem with, his constant coldness and unwillingness to open up was grating 'cause it went on for too long and when he suddenly went from emo to sunshine it was jarring because there was no consistent development as to why he would feel that way. Hye-ji's just a bad character and she's literally here to spread the brooding virus.
I know most people just stayed for the fluff but even the fluff wasn't enough to hide the blaring flaws in the beginning but eh, whatever. I'm too lazy to proofread this so there's probably going loads of mistakes.
