Moonlight Drawn By Clouds: Episode 12

Of all the adjectives I could use to describe Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, I wouldn’t have predicted that badass would be one of them, but today’s episode had a unexpectedly badass tinge to it, and it got my blood pumping in excitement. The dangers in the palace are mounting, but if one’s life must be in peril, the least we can do is to also provide an opportunity to prove oneself in a way that mere words couldn’t.

EPISODE 12: “Faith becomes fate”

As Yeong sits with Ra-on, he thinks to his talk earlier with Teacher Dasan, when he’d seen Ra-on’s mother show up once more. He hadn’t thought much of it until she mentioned seeing someone at the lantern festival who resembled her child, and that had provided Yeong with the missing link.

So now, he asks Ra-on to promise not to let go of him when confronted with difficulty, and she agrees. He tells her his wish has been fulfilled, and steps aside as she reunites with her mother.

As mother and daughter embrace, Teacher Dasan watches from a distance and exchanges looks with Yeong.

In another flashback, we see their most recent talk, when Yeong had confronted Teacher Dasan about hiding the truth from Ra-on’s mother—he knows both are looking for each other, and they ought to be allowed to reunite. Teacher Dasan asks what would happen if that reunion proves dangerous to the prince—especially when remaining silent on the matter could allow him to be happy with Ra-on.

Yeong says firmly that while he doesn’t know what that danger may be, he doesn’t want to be the cause of breaking up a family.

Mother and daughter can’t get enough of looking at each other, and Mom asks if it has been difficult for Ra-on all this while, wondering how she came to be a eunuch. Ra-on replies that she’ll tell her the full story in due time, and assures her that she’s living well, and that the prince is very good to her.

Mom’s face falls as she realizes, “Then that person over there… is the crown prince?” Her expression clouds.

Yeong tells Teacher Dasan that his words do concern him, but he’s thankful that Dasan gave him the choice. Teacher Dasan replies, “Is fate something you can meet just by wanting to, or avoid just by wanting to?” Yeong returns, “That is exactly what I want to say.”

Ra-on’s mother is subdued as she and Ra-on rejoin the prince, though she doesn’t outwardly betray her fears. Yeong assures her that Ra-on will be released from palace service soon, and Ra-on happily says goodbye, telling her mother they’ll see each other soon.

After Ra-on and Yeong leave, Teacher Dasan tells Mom, “Now what’s left is for Ra-on to make a choice.” But Mom disagrees, deeply unnerved to hear that Ra-on is at the palace, and in such close proximity to the prince. She laments, “You know this cannot be.”

A sudden downpour sends Ra-on and Yeong under a tree for temporary cover. She offers to fetch an umbrella, and Yeong commands, “Do that.” As she turns to go, he adds, “…is what you think I would say?”

Instead, he takes her by the hand and leads her on a slow stroll in the rain. She suggests he hurry his pace, then supposes that the prince never runs in the palace.

Yeong replies, “But what of it? Do you suppose a prince ever liked a eunuch either? It all just happened that way.”

All of a sudden, Yeong yanks her closer by the hand and shields her from the rain with his sleeve. He gives her the nod and they take off together, running in the rain.

Byung-yeon slips into the prince’s empty room, casts a wary look around, and leaves a book on his desk. Ooh, is that the secret ledger he hadn’t handed over to his rebel leader?

He ducks out stealthily when Yeong and Ra-on enter the room, and Ra-on fetches a handkerchief from a chest to pat the water from Yeong’s face. She worries that he’ll catch a cold, but he just stares into her eyes and places his hand on top of hers. He reaches to untie her hat ribbon and pulls the hat off her head.

Then with a sly grin, he literally sweeps her off her feet and carries her over to his bed, where he sits down with Ra-on in his lap. He takes the handkerchief from her hand, then returns the gesture, dabbing the moisture from her face.

“I’m scared,” Ra-on tells Yeong. He asks why, and she replies, “Because I’m so happy. What if happiness meant for someone else has come to me? And what if it will be stolen away again?”

Yeong asks if she’s that happy to see her mother again. Ra-on says that it’s a happy thing to have someone to be with both inside and outside of the palace. “If you’re happy, I’m happy too,” Yeong says.

Then he adds, “But you talk as though you will be fine without me outside of the palace, and that makes me sad.” Ra-on assures him not to worry: “Without your permission, would I go anywhere?”

Byung-yeon reports to Head Eunuch Han that he left the book in the prince’s room, as ordered. Byung-yeon seems worried about the plan, but Head Eunuch Han tells him, “If one does not mean to act, there was no need to have hidden.” It’s all very cryptic for now, but I’m sure it’s meant to be.

Byung-yeon asks when the eunuch will reveal everything to Ra-on. Eunuch Han says, “I am waiting—for when the prince cannot do anything.” Well that sounds dire.

Yeong reads his way through a pile of scrolls with a thunderous expression, and informs the elder Minister Kim (the minister of personnel) that they are accusations against him for accepting bribes in making government appointments. Yeong asks why none of these messages ever made it to him, and the nervous younger Minister Kim makes the excuse that they were unverified claims.

Yeong makes Dumb and Dumber sweat more when he informs them that the petitioners anticipated this response and included evidence. He takes out that book left by Byung-yeon, which they recognize, given that it was stolen from their home. The book contains a list of every government official who’d gotten his position through bribery, in full detail.

Minister Dumb can barely even whisper that the charge is false, and when Minister Dumber is pressed, he has to admit that the information checked out as accurate. Yeong orders Minister Dumb removed from his position.

The minister feebly argues out that the prince must investigate this more thoroughly and consider the situation more carefully. Yeong tells him he’s right—he will be investigating this with the utmost gravity. Booyah.

At the Kim family home, the inner circle discusses this calamity, wondering how the prince ended up with the stolen ledger o’ corruption. Their lead henchman joins them to report back that when he went to meet the supposed informant, they were already dead. However, he was able to find the name of Hong Kyung-rae’s lost daughter: Hong Ra-on.

Yoon-sung remains silent while his elders mull this over. They deduce that Ra-on won’t have used her real name, and order the henchman to keep digging.

Next, Yoon-sung goes to Yeong’s palace to discuss the bride selection, but hears that he’s in his library and heads over there instead.

In the library, Yeong reads at a table while Ra-on naps with her head on her arm. He moves his book to shield her from the sun, and sees her smiling in her sleep. Ra-on opens her eyes, and Yeong lays his head down on the table too, as they hold their gazes steady.

He asks, “Even when you close your eyes, do you see me? You were smiling so much in your sleep.” Ra-on answers, “Yes, I dreamed of you.”

Yoon-sung steps inside as Yeong takes Ra-on’s hand and asks about her dream. Yoon-sung turns to leave quietly, just as Ra-on explains, “I dreamed of when you first called me Ra-on-ah.”

At that name, Yoon-sung whirls back around, and Yeong replies, “Sleep more, Ra-on-ah.” Yoon-sung’s eyes widen as he makes the connection.

Ousted Minister Dumb is feeling vindictive, and plots of a way to get back at the prince. Minister Dumber protests that it would be treason, but the elder Kim has thought of a cover. He produces the rebel mask (dropped by Byung-yeon), explaining that they can carry out their scheme, drop the mask at the scene, and blame everything on the rebels. They can use this chance to accomplish several goals at once: hasten Yeong’s wedding, keep the rebels in check, and knock down the prince.

Minister Dumber asks how to handle their plot with the prime minister, and Minister Dumb replies that the prime minster would not stop them. Yes, but he’s your only brain—are you sure you want to operate without him?

Young Master Jung continues skulking around the princess’s palace, waiting for a clear moment to sneak in and hang a set of food boxes on the gate handle. The minute he turns, though, he finds Princess Myeongeun watching suspiciously, and he stammers out a lame excuse about walking by.

At her mistrustful expression, he comes clean about being unable to forget a beautiful woman who used to live here. He gazes at her longingly, meaning her, but Princess Myeongeun wonders if he’s thinking of her former court lady, Wol-hee. Young Master Jung fumbles for an explanation and says that the woman is no longer here.

She sees the boxes, and Young Master Jung explains that he prepared things that the woman used to like. The princess lights up at the sight of her favorite sweets, starting to shove one in her mouth before she recalls herself.

She puts the sweet back without tasting it and says that Wol-hee didn’t like these. She orders him to take them away, resisting the temptation to eat them, and says that Young Master Jung must have liked someone with similar tastes as herself.

Yeong drops by to see Byung-yeon, but finds his quarters empty. As he turns to go, he knocks a pile of clothing onto the ground and picks them back up. The bloodstained clothing is a little odd, but it’s the mask that grabs his attention, and he thinks back to when he saw something similar.

Yeong recalls that fight in the city streets, when he’d jumped in to fight alongside Byung-yeon and seen a dropped mask. And just as he makes the mental connection, Byung-yeon arrives.

Ra-on’s mother receives an unexpected visit from Head Eunuch Han, and seems rather angry to see him. She asks bitterly if he ever thought of how she and Ra-on lived all this time while her husband prepared for the rebellion. Head Eunuch Han promises to take care of them now, but Mom rejects his help, afraid for what will happen to Ra-on.

Eunuch Han pleads for her to help them ensure that hundreds of civilian deaths did not go in vain. Mom asks, “We do not know anything. Please, do not take any further interest in us.”

When Byung-yeon arrives, Yeong indicates the bloodied clothing and asks if he’s injured. Oh no, are you hoping he’ll come clean on his own? I can’t watch. It hurts to see Byung-yeon lie, not knowing that Yeong has suspicions; he says the injury came from yesterday’s training session.

Then, Yeong hears from another official that not only did Byung-yeon skip training today citing illness, there was no training yesterday. Yeong’s face hardens, and oh no, there goes another crack in my beloved bromance.

That night, Yoon-sung runs into his grandfather’s henchman out in the city, who has found where Ra-on is and is eager to report to the Kim clan. Yoon-sung’s eyes widen in alarm to hear that he knows Ra-on is at the palace, and he asks if there’s proof. The henchman shows the document he’s carrying, and Yoon-sung sends him along to make the report.

Then, Yoon-sung follows the henchman through the dark city streets. The henchman senses his tail, but relaxes when he sees that it’s Yoon-sung, who says he forgot to tell him something.

He motions the man closer—and then slashes his throat. Omo omo. I don’t even know whether I’m glad or not about this! Yoon-sung takes the letter from the dead man, and its contents make his eyes widen in alarm.

At the palace, the Kims’ plot unfolds. Masked men in black infiltrate the palace walls and take down the night guards quickly, then open the gates for the rest of their ranks. Two of their own take up the guard posts while the rest head inside.

After reading that alarming document, Yoon-sung goes straight to Yeong. But Yeong starts by warning him not to say a word about Sam-nom (Ra-on): “If [she] needs anything, I will be the one to do it.”

Yoon-sung contradicts him: “What Eunuch Hong needs is to leave this place.” Yeong bristles, considering this an overreach by Yoon-sung; any problem-solving will be up to Yeong.

Yoon-sung doesn’t seem able to entirely flout his family, but he says earnestly, “As long as the two of you are together, you are in danger too.” That makes Yeong think of Teacher Dasan’s comments too, and he asks Yoon-sung what that danger is.

But Yoon-sung has no answer, so Yeong dismisses him, saying that if he was going to be shaken by such words, he would never have begun in the first place.

A bit later, as Ra-on carries a tray of tea down the hall, she’s assailed from behind and dragged away. Her tray crashes to the ground, and around the corner several court ladies lie in pools of their own blood.

From his room, Yeong snaps to attention, picking up on the disturbance. His call outside goes unanswered, and he senses something wrong; he picks up his sword and readies himself, approaching his doors cautiously.

Then he flings open the doors, and finds Ra-on held at swordpoint, with an army of masked intruders at her back. Yeong draws his sword and asks who they are, but they remain silent and continue their approach, pulling Ra-on along with them.

Yoon-sung makes his way out of the palace, and as he passes by the (impostor) night guards, he notices blood on their hands. He pauses in his tracks, and the two guards exchange looks and draw their swords.

But Yoon-sung anticipates this and charges them, swiftly taking charge of the situation and cutting them both down.

The masked mob advances into Yeong’s room, and he backs up warily, very aware of the blade held to Ra-on’s neck. Finally he drops his sword and tells them that he doesn’t know what they want, but they can let Ra-on go first.

He reaches a hand out slowly, carefully, toward Ra-on, and she reaches out to grasp it. Just before they make contact, the leader raises his sword to charge the prince, who reacts just a hair quicker—he yanks Ra-on toward himself, clearing the sword’s downward swing by inches, and holds her protectively.

In the next split-second, a body comes flying in through the paper-lined doors, breaking through the slats and rolling into the middle of the fray. It’s Yoon-sung (woohoo!), and he slashes one intruder on his way to joining the prince.

For a long moment, the two sides regard each other, and then the intruders charge. Yoon-sung launches himself forward and deftly fights one group, while Yeong does remarkably well defending himself with his sword scabbard.

At one point, blocking one attack with the scabbard leaves him open to another attack, and an assassin charges in with a sword pointed straight at Yeong’s chest. Yoon-sung sees the situation and leaps forward, grabbing the blade with his bare hand and stopping it mere inches from Yeong’s face.

Then Yoon-sung whirls around with the blade still firmly in his grasp, ignoring the injury to his hand as he holds his position. Yeong is so shocked he can’t believe his eyes, but Yoon-sung doesn’t even betray a hint of weakness while his hand grows bloodier and bloodier.

Ra-on looks around frantically to try to help, and spots Yeong’s dropped sword on the floor. She slides it across the floor to Yeong, and he kicks it up by the hilt and grabs it in one smooth motion.

Newly armed, Yeong fights with renewed determination, and (thankfully!) helps free Yoon-sung’s hand from its grip on the sword.

Now both friends launch themselves fully into the fight, whirling in tight quarters and taking on multiple assailants simultaneously. Yoon-sung drives several of them outside and fights in the hallway; Yeong takes on the remainder still inside.

Then, one attacker charges Ra-on, who’s unarmed and alone. Yeong spots the danger and darts forward, blocking the sword with his own and taking down the assassin.

But as he faces one swordsman, he misses the one at his back until it’s too late—the blade slashes across Yeong’s back. His blood spatters the walls.

Yeong is still able to hold his stance, but a final assassin drives forward and stabs Yeong in the gut with his sword. Oh no. No no nooooo.

Yeong musters the last bit of strength to cut down one assailant, but he’s injured badly and fading. With a gasp, he falls onto his knees, and when he looks up at the last masked assassin, he pictures Byung-yeon standing there instead.

He asks in a trembling voice, “Is it you, Byung-yeon-ie?” Ooof, that. It feels like the possibility of betrayal hurts even more than the stab wound in his gut.

The assassin still wears Byung-yeon’s face as he raises his sword for the deathblow. Ra-on watches in horror, and then the sword swings downward…

But only for a second, before the assassin goes slack, stabbed in the back. As he crashes to the ground, we see the real Byung-yeon behind him, here in just the nick of time. Oh thank god. Thank you thank you thank you.

Byung-yeon apologizes for his late arrival, then sees one attacker fleeing and runs after him.

Yeong barely has time to register this before his injuries overcome him. Ra-on catches him just as he falls unconscious in her arms.

Yoon-sung returns to the room, sees the scene, and quietly turns away.

The king is beside himself over this attack, and asks the prime minister what to do. Prime Minister Kim advises him to keep this incident from leaking outside the palace, arguing that it will do no good to stir public sentiment, and I’m thankful that at least Head Eunuch Han sharpens his gaze at that. Prime Minister Kim assure the king that he will take care of it quietly.

The mood Chez Kim is grave, and Dumb and Dumber assure the prime minister that they tied all their loose ends. But they’re putting on a false front for their leader’s sake, because privately Dumb and Dumber fret about the one missing assailant: They sent ten, but there were only nine bodies. They hope he made a clean escape, but it’s a definite complication.

Ra-on waits in pins and needles for the royal doctor to finish tending to the prince, and asks to see Yeong. She gets a stern refusal, and when she pleads to know how Yeong is doing, the doctor ignores her question.

At home, Yoon-sung sits down to paint, but his concerns weigh on him heavily, stopping him before he starts.

Yeong remains unconscious as he is treated by the royal doctors. Ra-on huddles in his empty room, wondering when he will return.

Finally, Yeong opens his eyes, and the doctor at his side breathes a sigh of relief. As do we all. He informs Yeong that he’s been moved temporarily from his blood-soaked palace, and is under strict orders from the king to restrict all visitors other than doctors.

Yeong sits up with difficulty and requests one of his attendants, as he has something he needs to retrieve.

So Ra-on is allowed in, although she pauses outside the door. She calls out to Yeong and asks if he’s okay, and has to struggle to hold back tears. She reminds him of her words that she was so happy it scared her: “When you collapsed, I was so scared. I thought, ‘In the end, my happiness is being taken back.’ Please do not ever let go of my hand. I will not let go, either.”

She reaches a hand to the door and rests it there longingly. And then, a hand joins hers, and an arm wraps comfortingly around her shoulders.

“How impertinent,” Yeong tells her. “Without my approval, there will be no one who can steal away your happiness. So, do not cry.”

He tightens his grasp and vows, “Because I will not ever let go of this hand.”

Ra-on’s tears continue to fall, but at his words she does seem to breathe easier, resting into his hold as they stand there holding each other.

And then, we rejoin Yeong and Ra-on when he’s back to full health and just about to grant Ra-on permission to leave for the day. She promises to be back before curfew, but he insists that she be back before sundown instead. Ra-on pouts a little, then agrees.

Unbeknownst to her, Ra-on’s mother is determined to leave with Ra-on and informs Teacher Dasan. She has been deeply shaken by the news of Ra-on serving the prince, as well as the recent attack, and can’t abide the fear of leaving Ra-on there.

Ra-on arrives outside the house just as her mother says, “That our Ra-on and the crown prince have each other in their hearts as lovers—do you truly not understand what that means?”

Yeong spends the day at his desk, and looks up in surprise when a court lady lights a candle; the day has passed and Ra-on is not back yet. He pouts a little, but then laughs it off.

Ra-on’s mother tells Teacher Dasan that she worked so hard to cast off “that cruel fate,” forcing a beautiful girl to live as a boy. “If anybody finds out that our Ra-on is the daughter of Hong Kyung-rae…”

Ra-on opens the door and looks at her mother in shock.

Yeong paces outside Ra-on’s building that night, and thinks back to the promise he asked of her—to not let go of him even in her most difficult moment. He also thinks of Ra-on’s cheerful comment that she wouldn’t go anywhere without his permission.

Ra-on arrives, and asks if Yeong has waited a long time. He turns to face her, and in one moment feels a swoop of relief. They stand there and beam at each other, eyes shining.

COMMENTS

Oh, my beloved bromances are back! And if not in full swing, then at least on the clear road to recovery, which is enough for my full heart today. How I’ve missed these boys being friends, trusting and leaning on each other, and with everything that’s gotten in the way to cause doubt and suspicions, I loved that today sort of charged in and proved things in one fell swoop. Almost like fate deciding it was done with the confusion and deciding to clear everything up in a bold, undeniable way.

I’m thrilled that Yoon-sung got a chance to do something definitive this time, because he is the character with the most information, but because of his conflicted loyalties, he’s often prevented from taking an active hand. We’ve seen his good, upstanding nature in action and he’s definitely crossed the family loyalty line before to side with Yeong, but I’ve worried that he would be the kind of person whose good nature got stifled by silence, who was never quite as bad as our more evil villains but also complicit by not rejecting them. Who might find his integrity compromised the longer he remained silent, which makes him on par with the king, and that’s a comparison nobody wants.

I’m not assuming that everything is suddenly hunky-dory now between Yoon-sung and Yeong, and there is the tricky matter of Yoon-sung knowing about Ra-on’s identity and being determined not to lose her. But there’s something so visceral about seeing somebody risk their life to save you that makes it impossible to just return to the status quo afterward. I loved Yoon-sung’s decisiveness when he grabbed that blade away from Yeong, but I loved even more the bewilderment on Yeong’s face as he witnessed it. From his look, it was clear he hadn’t believed Yoon-sung was capable of that kind of sacrifice, and it lands with more impact considering they’d just parted on tense terms. I’m excited for what this means for them now; I’m practically bouncing in my seat in anticipation for a full Three Musketeers revival. With a song and a dance and a secret handshake and everything. I’m getting ahead of myself, but what can I say, the thought makes me giddy.

And as if that weren’t enough excitement, I was doubly jazzed when the attack forced Yeong to confront his worst fears about Byung-yeon betraying him, and at the same time proved them wrong. (Yeong’s plaintive “Is that you, Byung-yeon-ie?” was a knife in the heart.) I’ll admit that I don’t love that Ra-on is often in a dangerous position and unable to defend herself—I don’t expect her to be a fighter or fearless, since that wouldn’t make sense with her character, but it just feels like she’d have died a dozen times without Young—but today, she was part of a means to get both bromances out of purgatory, and it was worth the result.

Similarly to Yoon-sung, I don’t think one fight will fix all of the doubts about Byung-yeon that have arisen through numerous suspicious acts, and he still has a lot to answer for, but it does clear up the biggest, most hurtful doubt. I’ll take that. And the relief is twofold, because on top of demonstrating for us that the friendship was real, it also reinforces the fact that the prince isn’t totally alone after all. He may not have a lot of people on his side, but when they’re as capable and kickass as these two buddies, they more than make up for the lack in numbers.

I got so excited about the boys that it almost overshadowed the poignant moments with Yeong and Ra-on, which is nuts because it was also an episode chock-full of heart-stirring exchanges between them. You know, I started thinking today that we keep expecting doom ‘n’ gloom to arrive with the royal wedding, and I know the show intends to address that (Ha-yeon’s character description identified her as the crown princess from the outset), but I’ve decided to stop dreading it as the end of all things. We’ve got three weeks left now, and our OTP is safe and intact; I don’t doubt that they’ll be slammed with opposition and angst and danger, but is that any different from what they’ve faced thus far? If the show has found a way to keep the threat alive while still feeding their relationship and allowing it to grow, I trust that it’ll continue drawing upon its small moments of affection and conviction through the end.

What really eased my mind this episode was Ra-on’s reaction in the aftermath of the prince’s attack, when you would expect a bout of guilt and noble idiocy to rear its head. It’s the anticipated response, and a familiar one, and furthermore it’s the one that’s aligned with these good-natured characters’ hearts; I couldn’t really imagine her not feeling bad and partially responsible. But instead of withdrawing, or wallowing in self-recrimination, she asked him not to let go of her, and then I felt gratified and reassured. I’d never worried that Yeong would be the one to let go or push her away, but I’d worried all the time that Ra-on would “for his own good,” choosing to live alone with the memory of his love. That she chose to hold onto that love was hugely reassuring; if yesterday was about making promises, today was about affirming them. Really, as long as these two kids are together, I have nothing to worry about.

I just wanted to point out that across 5 titles, I've seen PBG get stabbed 4 times. Is it part of his contract or something? What kind of clause is that??

I've only seen him in I Remember You, but he does get stabbed in that as well so may be you're right. It must be a contractual obligation of sorts.

And in Reply, he drank sleeping pills like candies. I was worried all the time that the writer would kill him off. Thank God it didnt happen, but it has added more gray hair for me. PBG is not healthy for me.

Omg, how can I forgot that. The way he died made me feel physically ill.

That Coin Locker Girl, oy. He was the single bright and happy thing about that movie and in the end, he was only as good as his organs.

On a side note, Kim Go-eun being good in that movie is a given, but her child counterpart played by Kim Su-an (who also did wonderfully in Train to Busan) was also really really good. She only had a few minutes but boy did that child use them to her advantage. I still remember her car trunk scene with Kim Go-eun.

0

This reminds of that "Leave Brittney Spears alone" video. Except this is me wailing in my bed, begging writer to let Bogummy live.

0

Yeah, exactly, stop trying to kill him!

Especially I think PBG has shown that he's an incredibly skilled actor who's very empathetic and very emotive and would be able to kill any expression you wanted him to show - but it feels a bit exploitative to me when you make all (almost) all his characters motherless, or pining for family in some way.

0

I cannot watch Coin Little Girl because of that. I cannot watch PBG's character died in the end. I hope the ending of this drama will not be sad ending or i will hunt down the writer-nim.

0

NOOOOO! Don't remind me of that movie! I want to erase it out of my mind. Especially THAT particular scene. I'm so in with this #StopTryingToKillPBG’sCharacters oh and triple yes for #StopMakingPBG’sCharactersMotherless

I haven't watch Park Bo-gum in movies, but I watched him in dramas and the only time I remember he was stabbed, it was in I Remember You. But if he was to be stabbed and die in movie, I don't think I wanna watch that. Though he did nail this scene with his eyes in tears over the possible betrayal of his bff. I weep everytime I replayed that scene. "Is it you, Byung-yeonie?"

0

I Remember You is the two-for-one because he gets stabbed twice in that (seriously, writer-nim, stahp). This is NOT a counter we want to see go up. There are many other nice things to count, or lose count of.

0

When it comes to watching dramas/movies, I don't mind when the characters get stabbed or otherwise injured if it is in line with the plot. But for some reason, I cannot for the life of me watch Bo Gummy get hurt! Regardless of what character he is playing at the moment, watching him hurt is like watching someone hurt a puppy! Bo Gummy emotes so well that you feel his pain so acutely to the point where its really uncomfortable to watch! :(
#stopstabbingthepuppy

0

Making him motherless is just sad :( But I suppose the emotions he portray are real as real can get.

0

I somehow saw the similarity with PBG and LJS in the motherless aspect,

Park Bo Gum's character got hurt badly many times, in the present time, in the old days (the 80's), even in the past,

should he become a future character? or an alien superhero?
Like Man from Mars or Oh My Mars ,

0

oh god
edit : I mean PBG and LJK's CHARACTER,

0

At this point, I wouldn't dismiss that Park Bo-gum is not healthy for any of us.

Now that I've recovered (again) from that stab (again), I'd like to add:

Holy WHOA for "absorption" because even though I know he's the lead and we're barely past the halfway mark, as it was happening (and as I know his death is inevitable, historically speaking) I REALLY BELIEVED THEY COULD KILL HIM. Call me stupid now, but props to the team for making me believe it. It would derail the entire tonality and trajectory of the drama, but they made me believe it - jaded me who's stopped believing that lead characters could die after Song Joongki and Lee Jongseok copped out in DOTS and W.

And the killing blow (to my heart, that is) when he thought it might've been Kim-hyung delivering the deathblow - what?! Thank god he actually isn't, and saves him instead.

And despite all this - FERTILE GROUND FOR NOBLE IDIOCY - both in terms of the actual life-threatening circumstances and the ideological problems from birth/position - thankfully Ra-on is also fully on board with not running away from that. Aaaah.

When the doctor asked him upon finally being awake if he can recognize him, my mind went NOT AMNESIA! LOL It was a very odd first question from the doctor that had me thinking surely they ain't going that route, right?! The doctor could have asked how he's feeling instead. lol

0

I re-watched that scene, but the physician was asking Yeong if he could see him.

0

That's pretty normal.. Isnt that a question doctor always asked? Its more like checking for consciousness and whether the patient is alert/aware to his surrounding after waking?

Regardless isit can u see me or do u recognize me (in this case, recognize isnt too far-fetched either since he is the doctor in the palace and the prince had met him before..)

The thing with the writer of this drama is that we are not sure which among the historical events will be followed and which aren't. It could go whichever way. They either use the personalities only, but not the events or they could do both and just change how we got to those events. And that makes me very very anxious.

Yes!!! He could pull a healer!!! Fake his death and live as bongsooya!! Maybe creating illustrations for ra on's books!!! Or choreographing dances with ra on as lead dancer.......
Hoping for a happy ending no matter how ridiculous!!!
Not an ending where ra on is sitting in a pretty garden and telling her son what a great man his father was and he should carry on his dream of creating a joseon of equality and peace!!!!
Arghhh!!!!

0

That seems to be the major theory going around.

0

I might be in the minority when I say that I don't want that AT ALL. Time and again, Yeong has proven to us that he is an intelligent, kind and politically savvy Prince who has the best interest of his country in his heart. He loves his country and its people, no doubt about it, and is actively fighting and planning and finding ways to get rid of the corruption in the government. He asked his Mother what kind of King he should be, and he took her words to heart. He's been disheartened by the setbacks, along with a father who promised to help him but still can't do anything more than quake in his shoes, and yet he's never shown the desire to quit. The weight of responsibility is heavier than anything, but as he said to the King, 'I didn't choose to be a Crowned Prince, but I can choose to be what kind of Crowned Prince I am.'

Plus, he made that promise to Ra On to make Joseon a better place where children can be children and nothing is more beautiful than that. So I don't really see anything in his personality that says he'll abdicate or fake his death willingly.

The 'willingly' part is the problem. I am praying to the drama gods that they'll somehow find a way to make Yeong fulfill all the promise he's showing to be a great King but have Ra On with him too, because she's one of the reasons why he's so good at his job.

I'm really, surprisingly passionate about this topic, if you hadn't noticed.

0

@C-chan "I might be in the minority when I say that I don’t want that AT ALL."

That's the thing that's keeping ALL of us on our toes with Moonlight, we can't predict how they're going with this story, or which part they'll follow the history and which part they wouldn't. Because every possible scenarios just doesn't seem to justify or be enough, because our crown prince is build up to be such a strong persona, we just couldn't believe he would throw off everything to ride off the sunset with our female lead, but on the other hand, we just can't wrap our head around where this is taking them (and us)?

And let's not forget that Ra-on isn't just guilty of complicit by being her father's daughter, she's also guilty of impersonating eunuch, with both of that charges, she's already on her way to death sentence. I think the ultimate decision Yeong has to make is either to honor his promise to his dead mother, or to choose Ra-on, the love of his life. He can't choose both because staying in the palace equals to death to Ra-on, at least that's how I see it. I don't see how they can clear Ra-on's of both charges, and there's that crown prince dying young thing to think about too.

0

@maryxiah

I'm still actually waiting for Teacher Dasan's oh-so-clever plan to help our babies together, although I'm thinking that's been binned because of the tragic factors coming between them that's been revealed.

The writer has got a mammoth task in making sure that the characters are treated respectfully with every decision she makes them undergo, but still following the logic and truth she's built up in the drama. I do not envy her at all because whichever ending I think of, there's always something that makes it wrong.

And I don't think it's so much as honoring his promise to his dead mother as it is about his own innate love for his country and people, and his own sense of justice and responsibility helped shaped by the late Queen and, eventually, Ra On. But yes. Choices, choices, all of them heartbreaking in their own right. Ah God, just kill them in each other's arms already! (kidding!)

0

*Nods nods* Let's not turn them into Joseon Romeo and Juliet, I'm crossing my fingers for beautiful future for them, surrounded by kids and future grandkids. You know what, at this point of the story where I'm simply warmed by their love for one another, I don't really "care" how they'll give them their happy ending, I just want to see them be happy forever and ever. I still believe in fairy tales. *Wipe tears*

0

Historically, he died. And logically, I cannot see how they can have a happy ending. However if he ran away with her and gave up his prince status it would work in a the-prince-ran-away-and-they-made-it-look-like-he-died-since-the-truth-is-too-embarrassing kind of way. They did that with a chinese drama once.

I think I've been watching too many sageuk dramas and movies and finding the historical relationship across them has become a hobby of mine.

So there's King Sukjong played by Yoo Ah In in Jang Ok Jung.

King Sukjong's son, King Yeongjo, was played by Yeo Jin Goo in Jackpot.

King Yeongjo's son, Crown Prince Sado, was played by Yoo Ah In (ddo!) in the Throne

Crown Prince Sado's son, King Jeongjo, was played by So Ji Sub in The Throne

King Jeongjo's son is our king in this drama, King Sunjo and Crown Prince Yi Yeong will be Heonjeong of Joseon.

GUYS IT'S REALLY FUN. And sorry, I just had to. Nobody outside the internet will listen to me.

Let me add more.

The first King of Joseon, King Taejo, played by Cheon Ho-jin (Six Flying Dragons, MDBC's Premier Kim)

King Taejo's son, King Taejong or Yi Bang-won played by Yoo Ah-in (Six Flying Dragons)

King Taejong's son, King Sejong The Great played by Song Joong-ki (Tree With Deep Roots), and Yoon Doo-joon (Splash Splash Love)

King Sejo, son of King Sejong The Great, played by Lee Jung-jae (The Face Reader)

King Seongjong, grandson of King Sejo, and his son King Jungjong were both portrayed in Dae Jang-geum

King Jungjong's son, King Seonjo, played by Lee Sung-jae (The King's Face)

King Seonjo's son, King Gwanghaegun, was portrayed by Seon In-guk (The King's Face) and Cha Seung-won (Hwajung)

King Injo, grandson of King Seonjo, was portrayed by Kim Jae-won (Hwajung)

and then 2 Kings later, there was King Sukjong

I FEEL THE FUN SAME AS YOU lol

0

Crown Prince Sado's son Yi San was played by Lee So Jin in Yi San

0

Correction: King Heonjong is Crown Prince Yi Yeong's son. Yi Yeong is King Munjo - as far as history is concerned. :P

Thank you! I'm not alone!

Many thanks to the thetalkingcupboard ladies for compiling this list.

Also this post explain SO well the history of Joseon Kings (damn, this way is so fun to learn History! I wish I could do the same with History of my country. No wonder is so easy to everyone in Korea and Japan to have a basic notion of their own History, with so many dramas and mangas):

Thanks for the pointers to The Talking Cupboard, which is a terrific resource.

I agree -- it's fun to trace the family trees of roles and the actors who portray them.

As for "I'm My Own Grandpa, Baekje Edition," there's Jo Hyun-Jae as Crown Prince Myung-Nong/King Sejong in THE KING'S DAUGHTER, SU BAEK-HYANG, followed by his turn in the title role of BALLAD OF SUH DONG. JHJ started off as a fictional Joseon crown prince in GREAT AMBITION with Jang Hyuk before that. I wish he'd do another sageuk. ;-)

If you keep 'saving it up for some weekend', you can expect to see some spoilers, or you can just avoid the internet entirely. I really love Yeong's fighting style in this show. The fight sequences have been a little oddly paced because of the camera panning around so much but it's still really good. Yeong is very zen when he uses weapons, shoulders relaxed and just with a calm aura, like when he shot that arrow, when he fought the Qing guards, helping Byung-yeon in that alley, and now the assassination attempt. Using his scabbard to fight off the assassins was so freaking badass! He also uses his opponent's gravity and even their body parts to hit them, not just relying solely on his sword. I don't think the same style is applied to the other two musketeers.

You'd think he'd be a little more awkward when holding weapons because stereotypes say that princes who love art and dancing so much that they're famously known for both don't usually train with weapons, and it's a pretty nice twist of characterisation of our favourite prince.

Another great episode! Where do I start?

The friendship between the CP, BY and SY was highlighted in this episode. It rose above any of their personal intentions and beliefs. These 3 gentlemen showed that no matter which side they are, they will always protect each other. And that at the end of the day, all they really have are each other. The CP might be cold towards SY but I hope that he realizes soon that SY is still the same friend he had years ago. I believe that more than anything, SY really wants to repair his relationship with the prince.

I love SY especially in this episode. He showed us that even if he is limited to what he can do to stop his relatives, he will not hesitate to take action against them when given the chance. Such was the case when he killed PM Kim's servant and then warning the CP of the dangers.

My heart hurt when the CP thought that it was BY who was about to kill him. BY would never do that!

I love every scene between the CP and RO and that every scene always gives me a different feeling. My favourite is the back hug scene. I've noticed that they kept reassuring each other that they won't let go of the other. This really scares me.

P.S. CP and RO's dates are my kind of date. Just being lazy, sleeping and looking at each other (well, who wouldn't if it's PBG). LOL

I also love the scene when Yoonsung took the attack that came Yeong's way with his freakin' bare hands and Yeong was momentarily out of it. He has been so cautious around Yoonsung and kept his distance because of his family, but I hope this is the beginning of the rekindling of the great friendship they once had.

Never I fell this hard for a second lead after You're Beautiful. Yoon-sung is a character that is so pitiful you want to wrap him in warm blankets and pat his back, give him a basket full of rainbows and unicorns just to make him happy.
He's done so much but barely appreciated. Especially this episode where he stopped the sword with his FREAKING BARE HAND and got no thanks, instead the people he saved went on all lovey-dovey with each other. Yup, let Ra-on be with Yeong and you can come to me Yoon-sung ah. I'll be good.
As for why he did it, I believe he sincerely did it for Yeong. Despite that he also wants Ra-on by his side, his affection towards Yeong has never subsided. Like how he earnestly tell Yeong he'd be in danger? Yeah those little moments.

This episode left me speechless! The romance! The bromance!

That ending though. I mean, they're smiling at each other, but Ra-on's eyes... And that ending song (Baek Ji-young's Love is Over). WTF.

I hope Ra-on tells Yeong everything, even if she feels compelled to give up on their relationship (NONONONONO). I love that they're completely honest with each other, and I hope the revelation that she's Hong Gyeong-nae's daughter doesn't change that.

More thoughts, because I love this show so much.

-Every scene with Yeong and Ra-on is so intimate. I don't know how else to describe them. The romance feels so heartrendingly real. The way their faces light up whenever they look at each other, the way they instinctively reach towards each other... Everything about their relationship feels so genuine, and the way their scenes are framed feels so private and personal. I can't with these two.

-Yeong's broken "Is that you, Byeong-yeon-ah." It killed me. Thank goodness Kim Hyung immediately came to the rescue. I was so stressed during that scene, and I was in the middle of work!

-The bromance! I mean, it's not as if Yeong and Yoon-sung will be okay after this, but that scene where YS stops the sword with his bare hand! And Yeong's expression of disbelief. I just want you two to make up, okay?

-I wonder how the wedding will pan out. I know it makes sense plot-wise to hurry it up, but it also feels out of character for Yeong to agree to it at this stage in his character development. Perhaps the Jo family will adopt Ra-on eventually and she will be Princess Jo instead of Ha-yeon?

-I love how strong Mom is, facing down Eunuch Han and adamantly refusing to involve herself and her daughter in the rebellion.

"Every scene with Yeong and Ra-on is so intimate. I don’t know how else to describe them. The romance feels so heartrendingly real..."

This. After the drizzle where they just wiped each other's faces, I feel like I'm intruding into someone's intimate moments, but couldn't tear my eyes away from the smoldering gaze of PBG.

That's the part of their romance that I really like, you get the sense that these two people really love each other a lot when all they do is just stare at each other and communicate wordlessly. I absolutely love the backhug scene because they were just affirming their relationship and took the comfort in each other's arms.

Bromance is alive and kicking!!! ❤️❤️❤️
How kick ass was that fighting scene?
Can these 3 boys be any more awesome? (Prove me wrong again Show! I'm sure they can! I'm so happy they have each other!)

He is a scholar who paints, can crash through doors and slash opponents in a single leap, all without a hair out of place- it's Yoon Sung!

Don't be fooled by his fierce appearance, he sews with a flair and has a soft squishy heart of gold underneath. A master swordsman with a mane of glory- it's Byung Yeon!

And well, I can't really add anything more about cheeky and swoony Mr Perfect himself- lover of all children and just a boy in love willing to sacrifice it all for the girl he loves- the Crown Prince!

What's a girl got to do to be in Ra On's shoes? ❤️

How awesome was Yoongsung in this episode? He was quick mentally and physically. I love that like Yeong, he wastes no time. He went from interrogation to silencing the messenger all in less than five minutes. I love my heroes quick to think and get in on the action.

The fight scene was awesome and I'm glad we got see a lot of Yoonsung in action. His flying kicks though... and when he did not even use the door and just stormed in to help Yeong, WOW! I feel the adrenaline.

And Kim Hyung making it just in time. whew! Like JB I went "ohgod thank you thank youuu!" and I cried.

I expect you will be gifing our awesome BrOTPs in action? Can't wait and thanks again in advance as always!

looking for another hot saeguk king or byeong yeon, or even yoon sung,

if that still didn't work we still have another drama in that timeline 18 September 1809 – 25 June 1830 like the real Crown Prince Hyomyeong, but ofc the timeline will be until 1860--- assumed we lived till 50 y/old and there's no PBG as Lee Young,

so then we got
- 1808 혈의 누 – Blood Rain (2005), Cha Seung-Won, Ji Sung
- 1803-1840 상도 – Sangdo (MBC, 2001)
-
but since we assumed that we didn't meet PBG then prepare in the
1849 군도: 민란의 시대 – Kundo: Age of the Rampant (2014) since we have, Kang Dong-won, Ha Jung-woo , Ma Dong-seok, Joo Jin-mo, Jung Man-sik

mid 19-century 고산자, 대동여지도 – The Map Against the World (2016), the other cha seung won,

1850~ 장사의 신-객주 2015 – The God of Trade-Gaekju (KBS2, 2015-2016) Jang Hyuk

assumption : - we are at the same age with lee Young and the person in the drama is in the same age as they were in the drama so the age gap wasn't big

thanks for the commenter above and the talking cupboard timeline ^^

0

Required fields are marked *

I didn't get the sense that Yoon-sung acted rashly. His own cover is in danger of being blown. Desperate situations call for desperate measures. Not only is the henchman the only one in Kim circles who knows Ra-On's cover identity and location, he also knows Yoon-sung knows he has the message. As the bearer of that kind of privy knowledge, there's no way he can be allowed to live.

I'd chalk it up to Yoon-sung's spider sense tingling that prompted him to act so quickly. He looked even more surprised when he finally saw the written message (re: Yeong's visitors?).

0
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

The written message is exactly the relayed message, that Ra-on is in the palace with the crown prince, hence why the visit to Yeong's quarter. That's why Yoon-sung hurried over to tell Yeong to let Ra-on off the palace because it's endangering them both.

You know, from any angle, PBG looks gorgeous ^_^

Loved all the revelations we received from the last 2 eps. I'm just still wondering how the wedding will be carried out. I mean, only 6 eps left. So far, though, the writer's done a great job. OMG! Really love Yoonsung this episode, he’s like the angel protecting Raon in the shadow, the loyal comrade that willing to shed blood to protect his friend/crown prince. He was just so cool, especially when he grabbed the blade to protect Yeong. He’s also very sharp at noticing the change in the guards and immediately come in to help CP. When Yeong and Yoonsung fighting side by side, I just can’t, even their friendship is kinda strained, they still trust each other. It was just a beautiful sight that I wish now, Yeong can trust Yoonsung a bit more and amend their friendship.
I was kinda about to bust out laughing when Yeong had blur vision that the last assassin was Byeong Yeon, but I guess it was because he severely injured and he already has suspicion about Byeong yeon. Hope things will clear out quickly and Yeong knows that the Kim plan the assassination, not the rebel (Eunnuch Han still in my good book for now)
And WHO SAID THIS IS A YOUTH DRAMA, the back hug scene, omg, so much emotions and it shows how deep their love was. Like it was between a married couple instead of some teensy first love. The fear of losing your love ones, the determination to hold on, it was so good.
The scene when they in the room after running in the rain, I swear even if they did nothing R rated, I could so feel the tension and the possible of R rated stuff there (maybe Im just thinking too much) but still, the chemistry between them is undeniable.
Side note: a way to a person's heart is to conquer the stomach, the princess was so tempted by the sweets lolz

2) In the library, WHY was RO so unusually sleepy? Must be because she was UP ALL NIGHT!!!
3) They are hot-blooded teenagers with raging hormones.
4) They were all alone in the room.
5) He untied her gat, carried her and sat her ON HIS LAP!!!
6) Then they he looked at her with THOSE EYES!

0

Plus, I don't know if you guys noticed this but in the beginning of Episode 12, when Yeong was helping Ra-on get on the horse, I noticed his hand was on her thigh, woot woot, that's very handsy of him. And in Episode 11 when they were walking each other home back and forth, Yeong said, "Isn't it given that you become greedy when you like someone?" and Ra-on replied, saying, "Yes, do as you wish because I'm already your person." Woohoo, isn't that a hint or what?

"Yeong said, “Isn’t it given that you become greedy when you like someone?” and Ra-on replied, saying, “Yes, do as you wish because I’m already your person.” Woohoo, isn’t that a hint or what?" Yes!!!!

0

Park Bo-gum was probably embarrassed to film the scene (Re: comment 72 in page 2) and keep asking the writer/director how he should do it, and they HAD to demonstrate it for him.

Writer/director: Dong-yeon ah, let's demo it for them.
Dong-yeon: (Wide eyed in confusion) Ah...yes. Ok.
Writer/director: Do it like this, Bo-gum ah. Stare into Yoo-jung's eyes and let your hand rest on her cheek. Dong-yeon ah, do it.
Dong-yeon: (Shy and holding back laughter) Yes writer/director-nim.
Yoo-jung: (Giggle)
Bo-gum: (Ears getting red from the demonstration alone)

I'd like to think that's how it went down.

0

@maryxiah
haha yes, that how the story rolls
but imagine if YooJung and BoGum actually position themselves exactly like the demo >///<
their faces will be almost touching since YJ arms are shorter, and she would be almost embracing him xD
plus the loving lustful gazes, that would totally make that scene steamy without any physical R rated stuff lolz

Thirst squad sounds about right! hehe! Gotta love how the story rolls off camera just by reading the comments. We don't need to see everything onscreen anyway. If this continues, we'll end up with a MDBC (beanies version). hihi

0

I already have a logical explanation as to why IT happened.

As we all know, Yeong is based on real life figure, Crown Prince Hyomyeong, even if the writers decided to take liberty changing the history for a bit, they can't change the fact that Crown Prince Hyomyeong HAD a son (I just can't imagine them messing up with history like that), and there's no way they could ignore the fact that his son was born on 1827, the first year he served as regent, which is right about now. And the royal wedding STILL hasn't take place, what with his recent injuries and recovery period, now we're practically running out of time to conceive an heir. By dramaland logic, Yeong wouldn't have slept with Ha-yeon even if they do get married because he doesn't love her, which leaves us to...

Ra-on! They must have done it and sealed the deal. I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that King Heonjong was conceived by Ra-on, even if King Heonjong's official mom is Ha-yeon, the crown princess.

0
5
reply

Required fields are marked *

omo, that's an interesting fact to support our fantasy lolz
but would production let that happen according to history or would they delay the time because knetz can go crazy over how young the actors are, even though given the time period, people marry and had kids at age of 15ish.
and if the conceived child is placed under hayeon, then how would drama deal with YeongOn relationship because in dramaland, they tend to allow the 21st century ideal of 1-1 relationship for the main ship even in sageuk.

0

nice . . . those eyes relly tell us that he knew a lot of thing,

that's a very nice scenario and I don't mind it (this is all my heart talking)

0

@Anh Yeah, I can already imagine all hell breaks loose if Ra-on was suddenly pregnant. But the geek in me prefers to abide in history. They can't place modern sensibility on sageuk because it wouldn't make sense and what's the point learning history if people wouldn't accept it?

0

This could work, but I doubt they'll go this route. They will most likely delay the conception of the child (and maybe just show a grown up little kid toward the end IF we even reach that far), but I do agree that by dramaland logic, it won't be with Hayeon.

OR they will just not go for the conception of the future king at all and just cut until the reunion of YeongOn and the rest as they say will be history. I don't think the drama needs to somehow provide continuity to the historical events and present his son. They've placed a disclaimer at the very beginning anyway that it's fictional.

In the end, I just wish we know just how much and exactly where the liberties of the writer are. I'm just anxious where the story will go because they can do anything regardless of historical events. On the other hand, it is exciting to kind of make up scenarios of how it might go down.

0

@Celine I know. This is why I love all these talks we have here, we could make up a thousand scenarios to fit the bill, but in the end we're at the mercy of the writer, we just have to accept what they throw at us. But at this point, I don't want to accept any less than a happy ending, however way we get there.

Kim Yoo-jung is at the perfect age for her character. KBG is a lot older than his character. Yeong is supposed to be 19.

This show is on a public channel. There won't be anything more than a kiss regardless of the actor's age.
They have cables for shows who would go beyond that.

0

I understand that this is on public channel, I'm not saying they should give us more than a kiss (we can leave that to the imagination), but all we have of them is a light peck on the lips. It makes some of us frustrated here. Besides, this air at 10pm, where I come from, that means too late for kids to watch. I wanted a more passionate (public channel appropriate?) kinda kiss.

0

@maryxiah
From what I know, Koreans tend to have late night life, so students tend to return from school (include extra curriculum) really late, around 8-9pm so it makes sense that in Korea, this is the golden time for drama but kids are still up. Adults also return home really late.
but I do agree that more passionate kiss is desirable, but the yoo jung age...

0

IKR!! Only if Yoo Juung wasn't a minor, they could do so much more intimate scenes

Privacy? I think they threw that thought out the window sometimes back, when they started to wear those couple bracelets and shooting hearts out of their eyes everytime they see each other

Yup, it plays in my head too, the lyric is just so fitting
"We keep behind closed doors
Every time I see you, I die a little more
Stolen moments that we steal as the curtain falls
It'll never be enough
It's obvious you're meant for me
Every piece of you, it just fits perfectly
Every second, every thought, I'm in so deep
But I'll never show it on my face
But we know this.
We got a love that is homeless"

0

Well others had the same thought about the scene. lol The still cuts were released yesterday and people were already assuming something will happen like a kiss or something. That was just a picture and that single picture captured the tension between them. How awesome is that?

I love how Korean viewers comment how much they envy Raon to be on the receiving end of Yeong's love. I for one am curious how she manages to still be alive given the way Yeong stares at her. hihi I find myself giggling and hiding behind my pillow when Yeong is giving the look of love. I just can't. hihi

I really want this couple to persevere! Someone on the last recap thread speculated that maybe they would fake prince's death so he can be with Ra On. I like that idea and wouldn't mind if he gave up his position for it, for the good of rebellion bringing in democracy or what not. In the end, that's the best sacrifice any monarch could make.

This show is one of the most romantic shows I have ever seen. It's filled with such sweet and tender moments ALL THE FREAKING TIME!!! YAY! They did such a wonderful job of creating their love story. I don't even mind that we haven't gotten any more kisses.

Plus, the fight scenes are pretty epic to boot! Yoon-sung is your man in times of need! The fact that he was willing to out-and-out murder someone to protect Ra-on was eye opening. He is definitely not someone to be taken lightly. I hope that his double agent scheming doesn't end up costing him his life. The Kim family is ruthless, and I hope his secret plotting to protect the prince and Ra-on doesn't put him in any real danger.

Oh and I have to add that I really liked the ending- so far Prince Yeong has always been the one looking out for Ra On and making decisions for her, so it was nice to end off with her choosing him.

I'm hoping Ra On will get to do a bit more in the coming episodes to protect the love they have. Because even though he's the Crown Prince, he is still just a Boy, worried that the Girl he loves will leave him. And she needs to step up, not just to support him, but defend him as well. Because maybe, just maybe she can be the bridge between the people and the Prince, and we can all get our Happily Ever After. I'd really love it if she, not just he, be the reason for World Peace.

Gifs up soon!

I loved the ending too! We have seen so many scenes where yeong chooses ra on, but it felt really good to see ra on choosing yeong too. Though we all know that she loves him, I felt like she was not able to show her love for him (as she is restrained by her status and as a woman dressed as a man) the way he was able to show it ( by protecting her countless times, my making her wish come true, by being the first one to confess).

So, I am happy she was able to show it too and also kept her promise to him.

I was kinda awed a little at that little come-hither stare he gave that informant and the sheer disgust and anger clear on his face as he grabbed that sword. *sniff sniff* Goddamn those Kims. How dare they try to touch my Yeongie.

Bromance, bromance, bring back the BROOOOOOMAAAANCE!!!! It's the other cruise I'm sailing, in addition to the Yeong and RaOn ship obviously.

Anyway, to celebrate my return to Moonlight (I never actually went anywhere though. Just fell a bit harder now that the romance is maturing...), I did IMPcaps for this episode! This was such an amazing episode!

I love that we see all Three Musketeers (plus their D'Artagnan) in action.

While, like the author, I'm not thrilled that Ra-On ALWAYS has to be saved by the prince and/or Yoon Sung and Byung Yeon, it IS in keeping with her character not to be this kind of fighter. After all, she survived because she hid who she really is and became a 'love consultant' -- not a warrior.

I'm looking forward to more badassery and cute moments.

It's nice that this show kind of makes us ignore (in a good way) all the sweet and poignant moments between our lovers to serve up an action-packed sequence.

I really am enjoying the hell out of the writing, the directing and the acting. It really IS a perfect balance.

And like the author (again), I expected Ra-On to go full on Noble Idiot by sacrificing her love for the prince for his safety. It seems to be the knee-jerk response in these types of scenarios. I LOVE that Ra-On chose to double down and that despite (or because of?) the threat to that happiness (which was exactly what she was afraid of), she decided to stay with the prince. After all, she has now confronted ONE part of what could drive them apart.

I guess she realizes that since this happiness can be torn from her so easily, the best thing she can do is to hold on for dear life.

Thanks for the amazing recap, as always.

It's true Yi Yeong and Byungyeon have been saving Raon over and over, but I don't feel like she's the typical damsel in distress though. 99% of the time, Raon doesn't just expect to be saved. She pushes through with her sincerity and reasons even when she got in bad situations with Princess Myungeun, the Qing perv, or Eunuch Ma. Raon has been on survival mode all her life - she certainly got herself in a lot of troubles, but she's not a typical female lead waiting to be saved by her harem.

I like that Raon's reasons and wit makes her such a valuable person to Yiyeong - she saved him by taking the solo dance up a notch, then encouraged him to fight the Kims with all his might.

0

Required fields are marked *

Oh definitely!

I like Ra-On's pluck. It certainly takes guts to survive the way she has -- and her ability to adapt to any situation and still be brave enough to give in to loving someone she "shouldn't."

She doesn't have to be ra-ra Warrior Princess because I honestly think it also takes courage to let people who know what they're doing save you once in a while. ;)

The first few lovely scenes of YeongOn had me giggling and clutching my heart. They're as sweet as ever.

But then the show decided to attack me with Yeong giving Raon that particular look while unfastening her gat and I nearly fainted. And when he carried her bridal style like it's their wedding night, I had to pause to breathe! The chemistry is so electrifying and I just legit feel the love between them.

And thank goodness Kim Hyung left and closed the door behind him. Such a reliable man.

PBG carried KYJ with such ease even when he placed her on his lap when they sat down making Yoojung seem light as a feather.

Dude, the hat removal and bridal carry was overwhelming with its chemistry! In my western thinking mind, we cut away just before they cemented their relationship. Then, he was playing with her hand while they were resting together. There is so much intimacy in that small moment. Finally, he nuzzled her during the back hug. The emotions felt so real.
Congratulations to the AMAZING actors for their ability to convey those emotions. Congratulations to the writer and director on their ability to use three essentially innocent scenes to imply a more physical and intimate relationship. I can believe in the deep love these characters have.

Don't we just love the BrOTP! I have yet to watch the episode (still stuck at school for 5 more hours) but I stopped breathing while reading the fight scene. Oh JB, you're such a good writer!

That scene in and of itself seems more hopeful than depressing, but why did they use that song as bgm? I want to believe that Ra-on isn't going to give up her relationship with Yeong, but "Love is Over" certainly heralds further complications in the coming episodes.

0

I'm like 100% sure she choose to stay with Yeong. I don't know why, I just do. And the song just didn't click with me, I refuse to accept that "Love is Over" after all the things they went through to affirm their promise to stay together.

Really? I'm a huge fan of B1A4's songs but I did not really follow them. I didn't know about his nickname. And now that you mentioned it, his face does look like a fox! Ha! I think that is it! Every time I look at him I think he is handsome and there is something unique about the contours of his face! It's a fox!

Can't wait to watch the subbed eps and fangirl about our three musketeers!

If the practice/brooding was already badass, I could just imagine how an actual fight would be.

PS YS had just become more interesting with the killing of the informant. it's dark and I'm sure I have to be wary but for now, I will bask in the bromance!

I also have an inclination that he already knows something about Raon's identity since the last part in EP 11 hence the promise they made to each other. Also, in this episode, Yeong insisted to Yoonsung that if Raon is in danger, he is the one who will find a way to help her.

0

@Celine In yesterday episode, I believed that he knows, but now I don't think he knows at all. He promised Teacher Dasan he wouldn't ask question if he allows the mother and daughter to reunite, so as of right now, I'm guessing he's out of loop.

0

@maryxiah Ah yeahh! He did say he won't ask further. I hope Yeong finds out soon enough. I'm not comfortable with him being the only one important who is in the dark about Raon's father.

0

MDbC is amazing and the story is really picking up. I'm finally comfortable with the OTP too. I have no issues with this current drama at all. Again, no issues.

BUT, I cannot wait to see PBG in a role where he is not socially inept or restricted by how much skinship/chemistry he can express with his lead due to age or a second lead. (Though, I concede his days as a second lead are officially over.) Like everyone else, I think Yi Yeong was a great role for him. I just want to see PBG in something more mature and liberating. I want to see him in something that really stretches him and grows him.

I actually really enjoy seeing PBG in these roles, because I think the acting needs to be nuanced and repressed, and he certainly delivers on that end. I'm not sure what kind of role would surprise me/stretch his acting by more than what he's shown in the past

Required fields are marked *

I would love that too but I am confident he will be given that chance. MDBC is his first drama wherein he is the main lead (as compared to AM88 where it was an ensemble cast). Given the wonderful response to MDBC, I am sure there will be great opportunities for him to fully expand his acting range. I hope his management and him will choose wisely with his upcoming projects.

Yeah. PBG is just starting out as a lead. He has tons more opportunities in the future to do different kinds of role. Given MDBC success, I'm sure he'll be receiving tons of scripts. May he come across a character that will expand his acting range (although he is already truly good in acting well beyond his age).

He also said that while he is still in his 20s, he wants to wear school uniform for a drama. hihi so we might see him more in less than mature role for a while. He's got tons of years ahead of him before military, so I'm sure we'll see more of him. I just hope he does not pull an LJS and work on 1 drama per year then disappear for quite some time.

PBG did say he wants to do a high school role before he gets too old so we may have to wait a bit more before we see him in a role which requires more skinship.

It's funny because for me, he's already been given the serious, mature roles in dramas and movies. Thus far, his characters have been nuanced, different, complex and heartbreaking and PGB breathes life into each and every one of them in a unique way, no matter the age of the roles he's playing. The socially inept roles, especially, are near and dear to me because I have walked those shoes and there's nothing second-rate about them compared to the more charismatic, sexually-charged characters. While RST is great, really, UST will always affect me more because it's just that longing and restriction touch me so deeply and it's frustrating in the best way. Not to mention that PGB is surprisingly so damn good with his smoulder considering how sweet a snowflake he is in real life!

But in those roles, he was barely a supporting actor, and he wasn't given a much dimensional character like he has here in Moonlight. But now that Moonlight has made him a household name, we can expect to see more lead role, or good supporting role being offered to him. I really like it when his cast-mates or ex cast-mates talk about him, he really sounds like an angel, a smokin' hot angel at that. Sounds like too good to be true.

I love when those three start working together, because I think the three of them are a better version of the king, the prime minister, and the rebellion. Seeing the three of them together like that is like seeing a glimpse of a better future where there is a king who cares for his people, a prime minister who is not afraid to steer the king to the right path, and a guard who is loyal and kind.

I love the contrast between the adults and the youngins. The adults are circling within their boundaries, but the youngins are going out there protecting those they care about and righting the wrongs. They grow with every single situation they find themselves in and the decisions they make to bring about change. It's rather poetic.

Thanks JB!

It's about time that they get into a bloody fight (literally) because the prince has been walking on eggshells this whole time, toying with the Kim clan. I've feared for his life this whole time but thankfully he's got Kim-hyung and YS on his side. And yay YS! He's freaking awesome!

And on to our OTP. Ooff! That last scene. I sure hope that RaOn will stay true to her words that she won't let go of the prince's hand. Please don't!

The backhug scene to me felt very emotional with both of them at their weakest moment, promising that they will stand by each other. This show does its best at showcasing the smallest gestures as a means of projecting the characters' emotions. Those smile and stares and hugs that they shared, they're pretty much repetitive by now. I would've gotten bored by them but with RaOn and the CP, too much is never enough.

So we still have 6 episodes left and I've zero clue as to how this is going to end. We still have the arranged marriage and the conflict with the rebels. I don't know if I missed it but is Hong dad still alive?

That fight scene was so beautifully shot! I'm always in awe with the cinematography of this show…considering it's a live shoot, they're really get all the lightening, techniques and sequences on point every single time!

I found myself a little annoyed with Ra On during the fight sequence…I mean I know she was scared for her life, and she did redeem herself with the little sword pass to CP but I wish she was less damsel-in-distress and more badass…nonetheless, it works with her puppy character type.

That scene when CP asks if it's Byeongie….oh my goodness….someone give Bogummie "best eye acting" please….totally hit me in the feels!!!

Ep 13 is going to be a roller coaster…I have no clue what Ra On is going to do from here….

I am in awe with EVERYTHING in this drama. Like, the best of the best in Korean entertainment came together for this and my eyes and ears and hearts are just going WHOA~

I am still amazed that it's going so strong. Admittedly, the overall story isn't anything special or mind blowing, and I think of all the factors, acting, lighting, cinematography, sounds, music, costume, etc, etc, it's the least impressive. BUT, the dialogue and it's tendency draw parallels through the script kind of leaves me breathless when I think of it. In this show, to be the least impressive is also compliment, especially when everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, is so top notch.

Not a fan of damsel in distress too. However, for Ra-on, I understand. She really has no way to save herself given that she is disguising as a man in the palace and her secret identity is about to be exposed. She is not safe be it inside or outside the palace. I'm giving her a pass. However, if she knowingly runs into a fight and decides to just stand there in the middle and wait for the guy to save her, then that is just stupid and I'll call her out. lol

Live-shoot is insane. I learned that the scenes from yesterday's episode was shot only last week. A few days ago. Everyone must be so dead tired. I am surprised that the quality of the episodes are still really good. I hope they make it until the very end.

While watching dramas, it's kind of most viewers' wish to see the OTP kiss and make out, because of all the romantic build up. In this case, I was surprised that there was a kiss very early in the drama. In most other dramas that I've watched, there seems to be a lot of awkwardness after "the" kiss, or the OTP seem kind of distant despite supposed to be in love on screen, but in this drama, the "lust" continues to build. Wow! PBG and KYJ are so good at eliciting very grown-up romantic yearnings, despite being so young. The part where the CP takes off RO's hat (after the rain) and then carries her to his bed...although they don't know anything you know in real life what follows...although there is not even a kiss between them, I could feel the excitement and heart fluttering and OMG, the lust! Seriously, PBG is known to be innocent in real life but he seriously knows how to seduce women with just the look of his eyes. My heart, honest to goodness, pounded in my chest and I forgot to breath momentarily watching that scene.

I don't know how this drama can actually continue to be so good. It's episode 12 and I was expecting angst and noble idiocy. However those 2 continue to surprise me with how determined they are to be together.

CP is actually one of the strongest most optimistic male lead I've ever seen He is so mentally strong and resilient it's unreal. And the way he continues to protect Ra On so sweetly heart fluttering.

Also I can't take anymore scenes where CP and Ra On stare at each other. Their pretty is so pretty I literally feel butterflies and rainbows whenever they do that. Their eye contact is so intense. The onscreen chemistry is off the chart.

From all the dramas I have seen, Lee Yeong is by far the best written character. He's not a jerk to begin with (no falling in love with the bad guy and taming him). He's a gentleman and a loyal one who goes through lengths for his love, his family, and his people.

Yeong saying, "I will not separate family for my own gain" just tells you how great a person he is and how great a King he'll be.

He's principled and steadfast. He's cheeky and damn smart. Those alone make him a really wonderful character. Him being so swoony is just an icing on the cake. I hope Yeong does not change.

the amazing thing is, while he's absolutely all of the above, he's not perfect. He might say something wrong time to time (like when he's kinda 'offend' the lantern girl for saying he will give her money, or when he said 'yes' when Raon--not knowing he knows that she's a she--ask if he's in love with a girl).

But well, he's always quick to acknowledge them and admit that he is wrong. A quality that's not really found in male characters in drama, really.

Still, damn him and his perfect smile and bedroom eyes. Damn him.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Yes. He's not completely flawless. He made mistakes, but like what you pointed out he owns up to his mistakes, apologizes for them, and makes amends almost immediately when he realizes those mistakes and he makes it a point not do it again. I like that even though he is smart, he has much to learn and he acknowledges that and seeks wisdom and counsel.

0

And it's admirable how gentle he is with women and children. The way he rejected Ha-yeon was considerate and gentle, he told her he has a woman in mind and it's no one's fault that he's not into her. Nor did he ever try to lead her on.

0

Totally agree with you Celine. Lee Yeong would probably become my standard male lead after this. He's definitely not the tsundere type (which I admit I also love) but you just can't help fall in love with an honest, principled and caring man like him.

0

In my book, tsundere type can be a hit or miss. There were tsundere characters I've seen that were alright, while there were those that had me seriously raising my eyebrows and going, "Nope. You don't get a pass. You are not being romantic. You are hostile and should be given a restraining order."

With the type of character like Yeong, there's no hit or miss. I do notice that some find such character to be boring, but I personally prefer this kind of guy for my lead.

I haven't watched that many dramas but I can't remember any lead man character like Yeong, there's always something missing. Especially his straightforwardness.

0

I think what made Yeong not boring is PBG facial expression and Lee Young's straightforward attitude,
he has force and go with it

Thank you for the great recap, Javabeans!

What I love about this episode is that we see the younger ones act on their own accord all with noble intentions and yet, they act not with their personal gain in mind but they are doing it for others. This is such a stark contrast to what their elders have been doing.

Where their elders have allowed cowardice and incompetence, inaction and silence to rule their lives while painting a rosy life at the palace, these kids have literally unmasked the reality that faces everyone in the palace and have refused to be cowed by it.

I love the "Three Musketeers" reference and as soon as Yung Sun slit that mercenary's throat, I let out a wild 'whoop!' knowing that he was making a statement. That he has remained upright despite his family name and not being in Yeong's good books.

Byung-yeon's undercover work has fed suspicions and strained his and Yeong's friendship but at a critical juncture, he was able to show whose side he still is considering. Even with the conversation with Eunuch Han.

Ra-on's own fears are well placed and I didn't expect her to step up either after the attack which is why her statement surprised me. She shows a quiet kind of courage although I kind of miss her spunk. Although I understand that she's not shown it to let Yeong be her protector and finally experience what it is like having someone look after her.

The episode title is Faith Becomes Destiny. How apt that it is the faith that our OTP with Byung and Yun-Sung have for each other has come to the fore and now has been given light in the unfolding of their destinies.

Oh, is it Monday yet?

Cheers!

@Quillene Petite
Daesang is Grand Award
Each broadcast station have Daesang Award at end year, for music, drama, MC, etc also film and drama end year shows have daesang too

0

Unfortunately, with Soon Jong-ki from Descendants of the Sun in contender, I don't think Park Bo-gum can win Daesang.

0

@Quillene Petite like what @Anh said it is the grand award... the biggest award given out. @maryxiah I don't think it's time for PBG to get a Daesang just yet. He is a really good actor but it's too soon. His performance as Yeong deserves praise and award though. Probably a top excellence award or something since he already won newcomer I think/rising star...

0

@Celine, @Anh and @Maryxiah... thanks!

I learned something new again today. I appreciate it.

I guess with Song Joong ki in the running, many people expect him to be a shoo-in recepient of the Daesang for the year.

But it would be good to have PBG nominated too! I would be happy either way, whoever wins.

Why is it that in almost all of the movies/dramas I've seen park bogum in, he's always either hurt or in a hospital ???

My hands were literally shaking from the excitement of watching today's episode. And I had the same thought over and over again, BADASS! You go guys, my most favorite bromance right at this moment, you three musketeers, you three poor loving souls, you you you... aahhh! I'm so lovin the full force bromance today, and I really missed that because we were always hinted of their old friendship but never saw it in full swing. When they were fighting together, I just couldn't stop crying, really, the past 2 weeks of Moonlight had me crying at every little moment. Don't get me wrong, I love sappy moments. And the look on Yeong's face when he eked out "Byung-yeonie?" I was crushed! But then Byung-yeon swooped in and smashed all doubts away. I'm really digging Park Bo-gum's facial expression, he's sooo good it hurts. And I have to take back what I said about Yoon-sung yesterday, I wasn't feeling his character because of his passive good nature and his little crush on Ra-on, but today he just proved how much of a badass character he is. I literally felt his emotions when he was warning Yeong of the danger being with Ra-on, and when he just mindlessly grabbed the sword in defense of Yeong, my heart just dropped. OMG, I want my bromance!

And not to take the attention away from my OTP because I absolutely love their development today. I don't love that Ra-on has to be saved at every little turn, but I do understand why circumstances call for it, and I love that the affections both men have for her was the thing that drove the bromance out today! That sure isn't the only thing it drove out! I was so sure Ra-on was going to retreat because she had repeatedly told Yeong she doesn't want to put him in danger, yet today he risked his life for her! The moment she told her not to let her go, and he responded he woudn't, I died a little inside, and the backhug? Perfect skinship I've ever seen in tv history so far (I'm exaggerating but it holds true for me)! I truly believe nothing can go wrong for these two from here on, I'm going to believe everything is possible. I just won't accept any less.

I know we were all expecting doomsday this week and haven't gotten a chance to see that, but I appreciate that the truth is revealed to two key persons today. Like what you pointed out JB, Yeong has always been the first to clue in everything, being in the driver’s seat, the author of his own fate, but today we get a reversal in a sense that Ra-on is the first to find out the big secret, now it's up to her to BE the author of her own fate for a change, and she gets to decide whether she wants to take on Yeong's hand and create their happy ending, or accept their tragic fate. I was pleasantly surprised that she didn't resort to being a noble idiot and leave Yeong, because I wasn't quite sure how she'd reacted, but I'm glad to report she's as winsome as Yeong.

I have a lot more to comment actually, but I can't think of more right now. Will...

be back later... my words got cut out!

Oh, and if I had to nitpick a little, I just wanted to complain a liiittle about the song selection in the ending scene. I mean come on, really, "love is over?!" when Ra-on finally decided to come to Yeong despite knowing her identity as the rebel's daughter? I know they had to release the OST but they could've put it in other scenes like when Yeong was stabbed and collapsed, or when Yoon-sung saw our couple being intimate?

However, that doesn't change a fact. Today's episode is PERFECT!

I thought "love is over" is fitting though, it kinda foreshadowing that the storm is coming, eventhough Raon return, it doesn't mean that she will stay. I have a feeling that she either flee without telling or flee after telling Yeong that she needs to leave (with the secret out or not)

No, the fact that she came back is confirmation enough, she's here to stay, that's why I loathe that song playing in the background when she was literally standing there asking if he waited for long.

no ,i dont think she's fleeing without his permission.

Her eyes seem to be shining with tears - I think she's there to tell him she's leaving. She just can't put him in danger. I don't think it's noble idiocy - she truly would feel responsible now that she knows who she is. But she wasn't just going to sneak away without telling him goodbye.

0

Nooooo. I refuse to believe she was going to say goodbye.

My complain is how the song is in English and that one line is sung over and over. imo love is over in Korean holds more emotional weight than English. It's just a tiny bit complain. Maybe the song will grow on me when I get to listen to the whole track.

Yeah, that's one of my pet peeve too. As much as I love Baek Ji-young, I really dislike the song. I was able to tolerate Eddy's song because I can barely tell it's in English, but with Baek Ji-young, I was thinking, hey, this is sageuk!

Maybe if she did not have to sing the English line over and over, it would have been better. Eddy's song was alright because it was just that one line and it is followed by Korean lyrics. And Eddy's song is rather upbeat and happy. A sad, emotional song for an emotional scene is better conveyed in Korean imo, especially in a sageuk type drama.

0

Eddy's song repeated a few English lines too, Love is star, I promise you. I wasn't keen on having English lyrics OST for Sageuk drama, but I let that pass because it sounded so beautiful. But Baek Ji-young's Love is Over is actually borderline annoying for me.

0

that english song, I think I let it passed because we already at the end and the melody doesn't really spoiled the moment,

but the choice of word is kinda strange, why don't sing it in korean,
Idk why I always thought if Baek Ji young , like being hit with a bullet lyrics to put in that song

I watched that scene again and while I do not like the English lyrics, the melody seems really nice. And sad.

I love your take about how this time it is Raon's turn to decide on her fate (be the author of her life) given the knowledge of her past. I do hope she makes a wise decision. I dunno but I still feel uneasy even though she returned to Yeong with a smile. I hate having this feeling of doubting Raon and thinking she'll back out on her promise... ughhh I can't shake the feeling.

When she came back to him with a smile and tears in her eyes, I strongly feel that she has come into terms with her identity as the rebel's daughter and decided to stand by Yeong's side. And the fact that she asked him if he waited long kinda hint that she took awhile to take in the truth but now that's she's back, she's here to stay. And I really believe when she asked him not to let her go, she realized she couldn't lose this guy, and I don't think any amount of secrets can change that fact.

I have yet to watch the episode but the screencap JB posted on the last scene made me think that Ra On will do something. Totally not hoping for a noble idoitic move but we haven't seen Ra On be the mastermind of an episode yet so I'll give her some time. I believe that girl in the first two episodes who has that spunk. She will makes us happy. Haha

Continuing from my last comment...

I'm probably overthinking this, but as we all know Ra-on is Yoon-sung's muse, when he hesitated for a bit and stopped drawing, I was thinking that probably marked the end of his crush on Ra-on too. After witnessing the length Yeong would go to protect Ra-on, his beloved, I think Yoon-sung was finally reconciling with the idea of letting Ra-on go. Because after today's badassery episode, I sincerely believe that Yoon-sung's affection for Yeong transcend his crush for Ra-on. And with only 3 weeks left, I only want to see our three musketeers fighting political battle together and have each other's back.

On the other hand, I'm still not trusting Eunuch Han. When he said he wanted to wait til the crown prince is powerless before letting Ra-on in on the whole truth, I believe his whole deal of helping Yeong was merely a tactic to pit Yeong against the Kim clan, because in history, Yeong did try to control the power of his maternal clan but was killed for it. So the rebels is probably opting the smart strategy of waiting it out til both parties are bloody and battered before swooping in and take the final victory. Am I making sense?

I was thinking the same thing! Looks like Yoonsung's feelings for Raon have shifted in some way. I don't know if it was fading or actually being intensified by what he now knows.

And I actually think Raon, after visiting her mum and knowing who her dad is, went to Yoonsung and ask for that freedom he said he can give her. There is definitely a crucial scene (when Raon is outside the palace) not showed in the episode.

there is a lot of THAT in recent dramas. Shopping King Louie has a friend with a rainbow-colored umbrella and love song plays in a girl-to girl scene.... next thing we know Prime Minister Kim has a thing for the king and wants to overthrow him only to kidnap him and escape to Bora-Bora...

A friend of mine said that Yoon sung's first love was Yeong. His love for RO was probably on the rebound...hee.

Nah, they sent abroad to China. When he came back he was still pining for Yeong...till he met RO. Lol!

He could be still pining over Yeong and only wanted Ra-on so no one can have Yeong's heart, lol.

I ship Yoonsung and Byeong Yeon after watching some fansubbed version of when they were having the drink and byeong yeon told yoonsung to keep the feeling secret.
In the fansubbed ver, it was about YS confirming his love with BY and ask if BY still have feeling for LY. I just couldn't see that scene the same way after watching the fansubbed ver :')

HAHAHA nice work of fans! All in the name of bromance!

I would have easily called this the best episode of the series so far, if each episode had not been awesome on its own. But I have to say, this episode had everything- cute, heart-warming, and blush inducing romantics scenes, recovery of bromance, badass fight scenes (who choreographs them- they almost seem like classical dance performances), political tumult, and everything nice.

And I am so happy that other leads got a chance to showcase their skills here. I mean, who doesn’t love watching PBG for the whole episode, but the other leads did seem to have had increasingly diminished roles. Looking forward to more such amazingness <3

I need some Louie and kittens after the fright they gave us in this episode.

but yay for Friends United. I know their end will not be perfect, but... at least they made a move in the right direction. and whoever said Bogummy is not too good at fighting scenes, what the hell are you talking asbout? Though I wonder to what degree they are using stuntmen?

quite honestly, the sweet scenes are nice to look at, but getting repeptative. I prefer bad-assery.

I have a feeling that Master Jung and the Princess who inadvertently brought Yeong and Raon meet will also be the ones who will help them be together after the inevitable separation.
