From gleaming abs to glowering eyebags for The K2

Okay, so maybe these aren’t the most flattering posters ever. It sort of looks like nobody’s slept in a month and stumbled onto an Addams Family set, but I’m going to go with Teasers > Posters on this one, and at least on the teaser front, The K2 looks solid. I’ll just go rewatch those s’more.

Ji Chang-wook plays a bodyguard who’s been betrayed by his countrymen, and in his poster he protectively cradles Yoon-ah, gun in one hand, while the copy tells us, “I’ve found something to protect.” She’s the hidden daughter of a presidential candidate, and judging from the massive panda eyes Ji Chang-wook is sporting, it’ll be a challenge keeping her safe.

Probably because she’s not exactly welcome with Song Yoon-ah and Jo Sung-ha, the political power couple on the upward climb with a presidency on their minds. Song Yoon-ah’s looking rather shady and smug, and their poster tells us, “We’re quite a good match.”

The last poster with all four leads pits our hero in the middle, and says, “They each wanted to protect something else.” And yet with all that protecting going on, it’s a wonder nothing is safe.

The K2 premieres on Friday, September 23, on tvN.

What's with jcw face? I don't know if he looks young or what but it's a little different from healer and he looked the same in his c drama. The posters are very underwhelming and give somewhat GMB vibes. I still think the story holds a lot of resemblance to yong pal. I do like strong female characters but not those who end up killing everybody and totally take over the male lead. It's a surprise how switching the gender does not bother me that much.

looks like he gained a little weight to me, that's why his face looks different? even his body looks a bit bulkier while he's still skinny, he's not as skinny as when he was in Healer.

I think it's just the skin tone is more natural here. In the Chinese drama, JCW and all the actors literally looked like their faces we're coated with a can of Sherwin Williams white paint. This looks very natural, which I like!

Fan art posters are way better than most drama/movie posters. It's sad but true. Perhaps they should look for ones they like then pay the artist. The posters that the stations come up with are so boring and generic.

I am watching Age of Youth right now and I had a hilarious mental cramp trying to pinpoint where I saw that guy before and concluding he just kind of looks like Ji Chang Wook and that's that. One episode later I realized he's the guy who played his father in Healer. That's some brilliant casting right there and I could only appreciate it belatedly.

@pogo - I'm not sure you can say Healer is not your cup of tea if you didn't watch it. We each have our preferences but it would be lovely if you gave it a try one of these days when you have time. I just like people to have fun and be happy!

@lunatic4kd - I gave it 4 episodes, and didn't feel like giving it any more - it's great that a drama is so well loved, but it just wasn't to my taste.

Healer turned out to be not my cup of tea too, which I found weird because it's something that would usually be up in my alley with its dose of action and romance. I did finish watching, but I was not over the moon about it.

It's alright everyone has their own preference. Not everyone likes Titanic yet it has most Oscars, I think.
But it's true that Healer had something different about it even JB, GF loved it and found it unique. Mydramalist said that it shook the dramaworld because even though it was not perfect, it had so less number of flaws and that's what matters the most. 11k comments is no joke, though.

I'm not exactly pro-Photoshop, but the least the guy could do was remove the bags under everyone's eyes.

The texture looks horrible, too. It's like they went to Sears to get their photos done in front of that generic black curtain that has questionable stains all over it. I know their budget is better than that.

Im probably the only one who liked the posters, yes it could have been better, but I felt like they left the imperfections behind intentionally. I love the darkness, I love JCW's depressing face in here, making him vulnerable and yoona's fragility too. It brings out depth to their characters. I find it symbolic how the gun is pointed towards SYA too..

It's kind of crazy and sad at how people are so taken aback by physical imperfections most grown adults have. God forbid we don't see perfect, smooth, pore free skin in every photoshoot or promo. Anyway I also agree it works well to set the tone for the show and I'm looking forward to it!

0

Required fields are marked *

We know from experience that TVn knows what they're doing - so I take all this darkness and exhausted looks in the posters as the production crew telling us to prepare ourselves for a serious and dark drama. If they get anything close to a drama as perfect as Signal, AND with Ji Chang Wook in it, there will be nothing more I want from life!

It's bad enough that actors often look more and more tired during their dramarun, now they look tired before it even airs and in the posters even where photoshop is a very real and convenient possibility? Yikes. It always annoys me when they look tired, because it makes me feel like flying to South Korea and yelling at whatever company or agency that they're not doing a good enough job keeping my precious (which will of course be spoken in Gollum voice) healthy lol. They seriously need at least an actors' guild if not a union. Go, go, go!

I dislike photoshop in so many ways, but drama posters where everyone looks like more or less undead is not good. Please, please, PLEASE photoshop away when it comes to panda eyes.

I'd have Panda Eyes too if I was (1) trying to run away from my employer's thugs hired to take me out because I knew too much about their operations; (2) trying to stay awake and constantly alert while being on the run from said thugs; (3) trying to stay on my toes because one never knows when an order would come down from on high and must be carried out ASAP; (4) trying hard to search for an open workout room in order to stay all buff n' stuff whilst on the run from said hired thugs; or (5) trying desperately to find an all-night men's wear shop to stock up on white dress shirts since I just ripped the last one off my buff n' stuff body.

Oh wait... I may have just described a typical day at my law firm. Never mind. Carry on.

Well said, Cherkell! Posters are according to the state of the character, it looks more genuine this way and as someone said the pics on twitter look more better.
I don't know why people want every little detail to be perfect and according to those so called beauty standards. I remember there was a whole issue about Jung Il Woo's hair not being smooth, really? Not everyone has straight and long hair. Frizzy, curly hair are beautiful too. There is already enough hate and judgementout out there, so let's try to give out praises often. :)

Why does it look like Yoona was photoshopped into that first poster with JCW?
You can kinda see places where her body was erased LOL (someone was probably on caffeine, finishing this up at the last second...)

Not to mention, their skin tones mismatching is really...weird? XD their makeup artists did a really bad job. Either way, probably the most uninteresting posters I've ever seen from kdramaland... (and from you, TvN?) :(

They literally all posed in front of an ashy black piece of cloth, then someone added the text and left it at that. It looks drab and unpolished. Their expressions make it work a little better than it should. Then again, Yong Pal had very captivating posters, but the drama itself was meh, so maybe the reverse will be the case here?

Legit question though, does his K2 codename have anything to do with Mount K2 aka second highest mountain in the world? Some symbolism at play here? Probably not though.

Required fields are marked *

I've been wondering if it's to do with the mountain as well, but think I remember a DB post saying it's not?

I had a brief moment of studipity thinking that 2 was "il" in Korean, so it'd be "The K-Il" -> "The Kill". Then I remembered that Il is 1 not 2 and there goes that theory LOL.

Dude like are you serious? I remember how Joo won naturally had eyebags throughout the show and here we have makeup eyebags! Those sleepless nights and eyebags made the show a runaway hit and earned him a Daesang award so probably the writer is trying to use the the same tactics as Yong pal here? Just a thought btw!

Well, JCW went to film this after his musical so he probably was really tired. The 4 person shot is not PS, you can see it in the BTS. As for Yoona's had, it is her dress that is flipped over her hand. I think the worn and weary look is what the team wants and not a 100% picture perfect. The last poster not seen here https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yDaOsgiH6Go/V9Z6GykaNCI/AAAAAAAAbtw/vmo3BwNbi_82OFJweNRWVzVNKjXQcFtIgCEw/s1600/The%2BK2%2BPoster%2B1.jpg

This series may be the Korean version of Swiss Army Man, in which Daniel Radcliffe plays a corpse for the entire film, or maybe Weekend With Bernie, in which Terry Kyser plays a dead guy the two heroes have to keep carting around all through the film.

In this case, Ji Chang Wook has discovered that Yoon Ah, as the VIP daughter, was anorexic and starved herself to death. Hilarity ensues as he has to carry her bony carcass around like a ventriloquist's dummy for a dozen epidodes. Looking forward to him singing his versions of Gee and Lionheart at a Kaeoke bar while waving Yoona's hands around.

Well those posters are terrible and the PS done was sloppy. I do a bit of PS for academic work and it seems to me that they sloppily erased some portions of Yoona's arm. It's not clear to see if that's indeed the case or it's probably her clothes because the posters are low quality resolution.

Does anyone else think that Yoon-ah looks just a little bit like the Japanese actress, Matsushima Nanako, in the very first pic?

In fact, doesn't the first pic kinda resemble the poster for hit J-drama series "Koori No Sekai," featuring Nanako and Takenouchi Yutaka in relatively the same seated position against a dark background??

I agree the pic quality is poor, and I love the "Sherwin Williams white paint" comment above...but it kinda looks intriguing, esp. cos of the resemblance the poster has with one of my favorite J-doramas from the 1990s.

Does anyone know how many episodes K2 is supposed to be? It starts end of September, and Goblin (or rather The Lonely, Shining Goblin, ugh) is supposed to air after it but in December? That seems like a long time. So how long is K2?! I am super excited for Ji Chang Wook and would love a super long drama with him, don't get me wrong. But I have been waiting a lot longer for Gong Yoo's comeback, well good comeback that is. That other drama *cough* Big *cough* doesn't count.

It is actually good if once in a while we get to see main lead do not share the love interest. I love to see Yoona in this kind of role as well. If the production really wanted her to do this drama, so there must be something in herself that is special for the role.
