Yoo Inna considers bringing some sunshine to tvN fantasy drama Goblin

There were some rumors floating around last week that this second lead role in Goblin might go to various idol stars, but I’m glad that the offer went to Yoo Inna (One More Happy Ending) in the end. She just has a warmth to her that I like, and whether she’s playing leads or supporting roles, I always root for her characters. She’s currently considering the offer to star in the new tvN fantasy series opposite Gong Yoo (Big), Kim Go-eun (Cheese in the Trap), and Lee Dong-wook (Bubblegum), who have all confirmed.

The new fantasy romance comes from hit writer Kim Eun-sook of Descended From the Sun, and is about a goblin who protects people and a reaper who takes people, and their bizarre cohabitation story as they escort souls to the afterlife. Gong Yoo plays the goblin, who is in need of a human bride in order to end his immortal life, and Lee Dong-wook plays the reaper, who has amnesia. Kim Go-eun will be the human bride.

Yoo Inna is up to play a character named Kim Sun, who renames herself Sunny because she likes anything that shines brightly. I don’t know if they mean metaphorically, or ooh, shiny! She doesn’t have money but she has looks that outshine her financial situation, and all men like her. But for the first time she meets a man who doesn’t lose to her, and that stirs her interest.

If she takes the role, it’ll be her second drama with writer Kim Eun-sook after Secret Garden. For Yoo Inna’s sake, I hope it’ll be a pairing with Lee Dong-wook in the vein of Descended’s Jin Gu/Kim Ji-won couple, because it would be a lot more fun than watching her pine over a goblin with a bride. A sunny character suits her perfectly, especially if there’s any shot of her dating a grim reaper. Oh the metaphors that could be!

Goblin follows Friday-Saturday drama The K2 in December.

This writer usually gives her second leads a love line of their own, even in Secret Garden despite medling a little Kim Sa Rang's character actually was pinning after Oska and not the main lead so I have hopes she'll get a loveline of her own a la Descendants of the Sun or at least like Secret Garden. I think that's likely the case cause they also casted Lee Dong Wook and he usually plays leads, I don't see him being relegated to the tipical second lead.

I really wish she did it in Heirs too ?

If only there were two pairs of love line in Heirs, the bad boy + bad girl, none other than Woobie & Jiwonnie ... hmm. I'm still heartbreaking on how come the writer made them a step sibling, when they can become sexy couple.

They could become sexy step sibling couple..
The writer is so cruel not to give us crumbs regarding second leads couple in Heirs while everyone and their father/mother dating each other. I have to resort reading fanfics for KJW-KWB pairing :(

I'm glad she didn't. I couldn't decide between bad boy or depressed boy for Rachel. The open ending was better for my heart.

Girlfriday, my attitude to her is the same. I like her and I end up mostly always liking her characters and rooting for them. so, yayyyy, take it, take it, take it and please give her a story-line of her own, please.

Dramaland likes pairing opposites so I think you're right about the Reaper-Sunny loveline. Now excuse me while I research the opposite of applebutts...

I want her to take this and like what Girlfriday said, she brings warmth to her characters. Hopefully by starring in this she gains more exposure than before and wash off that whole China ordeal thing she had to go through.

yyeeesss!!!! please come back to dramaland, my sunshine!!

Love triangles are so yesterday! if they could create a 2nd OTP, imagine how much more hype the drama will garner (as proven by GooWon pairing). Please have your own loveline!!

Totally agree here. No need for the love triangle or love square. Let's go with a 2nd OTP! I would happily stop fast forwarding through parts where the second leads are pining, having their hearts stomped on, or planning something bad because they can't have what they want. There are plenty of other 'dramatics' a show could incorporate without having to make second leads seem like they've lost all propriety!

Oh my, a drama about a goblin versus a reaper? Spare us, TvN, you already gave us the frights of the dead in Bring It On Ghost!

That being said, I hope this drama goes well. This gives a rather unique vibe from the writer's usual works.

I think the goblin and reaper will be roommates so it's more like the kind of rivalry between Taec and KSH in Dream High. :D

From the short synopsis given it seems like Lee Dong Wook and Gong Yoo are the first leads because the story seems to be centered around them and Go eun and Yoon(hoping she signs) will be the second leads, feels different from usual kdramas. As for Yoon Inna i like her so much she is a very good actress i liked her and saw her only in hits(MLFAS,The greatest love and Secret garden) so she gives me that "hit drama" vibes, hopefully she will get more recognition that she deserves from this role if she takes it.

So its true? Kim Go Eun is really starring in this with GONG YOU! I don't know why that makes me so yay!!(This is my consolation for you-know-who. Grantet, its Kim Eun Sook...but still).
I don't know if you guys read OutsideSeoul.com but I remember this being Amanda(the blogger)'s fears: that Gong Yoo ever stars in a Kim Eun Sook drama...and now its coming to past!
My first exposure to Lee Dong Wook was in Blade Man. He acted with heart and the TEARS man, applenty! He also had one of the most soulful eyes and kissable lips ever. Right now,I'm thinking of other actors with kissable lips and I'm coming up short. Anyone? I'm sure their by the dozens but strangely, can't think of any names. WHAT IS THIS?(important world problems right here)!

I so like the star cast and Yoo In-na is a fav but the writer of Lovers in Prague and Secret Garden being involved makes me extremely lukewarm to this. I bypassed Heirs and DOTS for the v same reason so unless DB really raves abt it for at least 6 episodes I am out:)

TBH I am not a fan of this writer either, but she just has the magic hand. DOTS was a huge success, and I feel happy for the casts to get more recognition especially Jin Goo and Kim Ji Won who were so underrated before.

I love all casts, if with her magic hand can make them shine more, I will support them.

She's baaaaaack!!!!

Please say yes! I really would like to see her on the screen again!

She's been burned badly in the past by some of her second lead roles. MLFAS wasted her talents as second lead but her role in Secret Garden gave her more to play with. Nowadays, writers are making the second female lead roles more complex ala Doctors, DOTS, OHYA, so although I'd love to see her as a lead actress in her own drama, dare I hope that they will develop her own arc instead of letting her pine away after the male lead????

Despite the writer, I'm really excited for this drama! The cast sounds amazing!

I really like Yoo Inna, and in every drama I've seen her in (YFAS, Best Love) she has been pining after the second lead instead of the first lead, so I hope the same happens here!

How dare you, Kim Eun Sook.

I'm so glad Yoo In Na was offered this role, I was honestly missing her and wondering when she'd be back to brighten up my computer screen and drab life again. She is so earnest and lovable in each role. And not to mention, I think there is just something about her that brings out her co-stars most romantic acting, lol. Would love to see her paired up with a Reaper Dong Wook, honestly. So, I hope she takes this! Pretty please! With brown sugar. T_T

Man, tvN is crushing it. They are getting some powerful and seriously talented people in the drama industry to work on their dramas. People used to go to cable in hopes to get their break on one of the big 3, but now people are leaving the big 3 to join tvN.

This writer is hit and miss for me, but the cast is solid and the drama sounds really interesting, so hopefully it's one of the writer's hits!

Exaggerate statement if you said all of them are powerful actors.
Only Gong Yoo, can be in that class.

Lee Dong Wook is never a rating maker, his drama always flop, same with Yoo In Na.
Both are not rating potential.

I don't tihnk it's exaggerate. Many popular actors chose TvN instead of the big three. Jeon Do Yeon, Yoo Ji Tae, Kim Hye Soo and other actors who actively working in movie chose TvN as their comeback, including Gong Yoo. It's not surprise if Kang Dong Won or Won Bin will back to drama through TvN later on.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion on beauty but we really really need to get over this women must be pretty to get "hot actors" approach. In fact we need to stop this actress must be pretty approach. The beauty gets the handsome prince is the worst fairytale for women given the majority of women, including readers here, are no beauties.

The culture of beauty distorts genuine love and feelings. Dramas are supposed to capture those feelings, no amount of gloss and pretty in a drama will make up for the lack of genuine feeling.

If you want to stare at pretty girls and hot guys there are any number of them hawking products in stills EVERYWHERE in the modern world. No need to demand it of actresses.

Yoo-Ina would be cute as the bright and sunny girl in contrast to the dark and stoic grim reaper! I honestly can't even imagine the actors in their characters right now so can't wait for more details, script reading photos/videos, promo pics, teasers, trailers, and finally, THE SHOW ITSELF. ??????

Talk about benefiting from being in a couple of hits (as a supporting role).

Yoo Inna never stood out for me w/ regard to her acting, looks or personality/charisma.

There have been plenty of actors in supporting roles who were scene stealers and/or evidently had that "something."

Not sure if Gong Yoo will be enough to give this a shot - considering the writer.
