W–Two Worlds: Episode 6

I feel like I’m still recovering from yesterday’s episode. The show seems like it’s recovering too, because we’re a little lighter on the nonstop thriller-suspense-WTF-OMG today, and we spend a little time focusing on our heroine and her relationships. It’s time for a cold hard dose of reality in her life, which is often the hardest thing for a fangirl to embrace. But (sadly) real life is not a manhwa, and there are life-and-death consequences to be faced when her hero seemingly goes rogue.

EPISODE 6 RECAP

A gun goes off in Dad’s workshop, and outside, Su-bong immediately falls to the ground, convinced that he’s been shot. He hasn’t, of course, but inside Dad slumps to the floor with a big gaping wound in his chest, and Kang Chul looks down at him, eerily calm about the whole thing. But! You just shot your creator!

Su-bong’s jaw hits the ground when the manhwa hero he’s been drawing scenery for just walks out the front door holding a gun. Kang Chul pauses and says that if he calls emergency now, Dad might live. That’s it, and he walks away.

Yeon-joo can’t handle being trapped in the slowest cab in all of Seoul and gets out to run the rest of the way. She’s terrified because the last thing she heard was the sound of the gunshot, and by the time she reaches the front gate, it’s pouring rain and the place is surrounded by cops and paramedics.

She runs inside where Su-bong is wailing, his shirt covered in Dad’s blood. The paramedics are working on moving Dad’s body, and he looks alive… barely. Yeon-joo rushes to his side, screaming, “Dad! Daaad!” eyes filled with terror. Mom gets the call from Su-bong, and goes numb from the shock.

In the ambulance, Yeon-joo takes over CPR when Dad’s pulse starts to drop, and she pleads with him to hang on and not be scared. They arrive at her hospital, where she barely holds it together as she updates Professor Crazy Dog, her hands still pressed on Dad’s heart.

She enters the operating room, and Crazy Dog is actually nice for once, kicking her out for her own good. He insists that it’s because he can’t handle the pressure of her watching, but Yeon-joo’s on the verge of tears the whole time, and as soon as she exits, she breaks down in sobs.

Su-bong comes up and says in a shaky voice that it was Kang Chul—Su-bong saw him in the flesh with his own two eyes. Yeon-joo’s hand closes up into a fist and she asks if anyone saw where Kang Chul went. Oh no, are you enemies now? Say it ain’t so!

Su-bong says that her father was right, and that he had a reason for wanting to kill Kang Chul all this time—he must’ve known this would happen. He asks why Yeon-joo saved Chul, sighing that if she’d only not saved him, this wouldn’t have happened. “He’s just a manhwa character,” Su-bong argues.

Mom arrives and holds Yeon-joo’s hand, and in the operating room, Crazy Dog takes out the bullet and says it’s a good thing it stayed intact. He puts it in the pan, and it’s a real bullet—no cartoon fakes here.

Down in the lobby of the hospital, Kang Chul walks up to the front desk and leaves a letter for Yeon-joo, asking for it to be delivered to her. He says nothing else, and heads back out into the rain.

The next morning, news breaks of Dad’s shooting. He’s still alive, but still hasn’t regained consciousness. Dad’s editors at the publishing house see the news and wonder if they should call Yeon-joo, because something is going on with the webtoon—they stare at the screen and say it’s strange.

Yeon-joo sits by Dad’s bedside and clutches his hand, unable to hold back her tears. Seok-bum comes by and urges her to get some sleep, and promises to stay here next to Dad. You’re a good friend.

Yeon-joo gets a call from Dad’s publisher, who hesitates to bother her with the webtoon at a time like this. But he says it’s odd that he received a new issue in the middle of the night, when it couldn’t have been Dad who sent it. Wait, the manwha is still going? Does that mean Kang Chul got back to his world??

The publisher says it looks like her father’s artwork though, and he wonders if maybe Dad had finished the issue beforehand and scheduled it to send. He says the content is odd too, so he wanted to double check with her before putting it up online.

Yeon-joo asks if she can see it first, and hesitates before opening the email from the publisher. When she finally clicks, she finds the newest episode called “Kang Chul’s Awakening.”

The issue details Kang Chul’s moment of self-awareness when he discovers that he’s a manhwa hero, and his journey across universes into the real world, where he found Yeon-joo in the hospital and shot his creator. Whaaat. The story continued in her world? This is turning my brain into mushy goo.

In flashback, we see that the night of Dad’s shooting, Kang Chul wandered the streets aimlessly, still holding the gun in his hand. He eventually dropped it on a pile of trash, and that gave him pause—it’s what his family’s killer did in the manhwa, and he winced to realize he’d become the same.

He kept wandering as the rain came down, and he stopped in front of a poster for W, calling him “this generation’s guardian of justice,” wondering if he’d finally catch his family’s killer. It was as if the words were mocking him.

Chul stepped inside a convenience store to buy a pen and paper, and sat down to write Yeon-joo a letter. As he writes her name on the envelope, the image turns into the webtoon frame that Yeon-joo is staring at in her office.

And then on cue, the nurse walks in and hands her that very letter. Yeon-joo stares at the matching envelopes in hand and on her screen, and then tears it open to read. The whole thing isn’t visible, but in the latter half he writes, “And thank you. Now I can leave knowing the truth about my life. To a hero who turned into a murderer while looking for a murderer, there isn’t a more fitting ending than this, is there? So… goodbye…”

Alarmed, she goes back to the webtoon and scrolls past the letter, and the next frame shocks her—it’s Hangang Bridge, where Dad made Kang Chul jump the first time.

The image fades into the flashback from the night before, as Kang Chul stood on the ledge of the bridge in the pouring rain.

His smile was bittersweet, and then he let go, his body falling in slow motion to the river down below. He sank to the bottom, and the screen fades back into the webtoon on Yeon-joo’s screen. She quickly scrolls down, and the next image shows him drowning… with “The End” stamped down in the corner. Nooooooo!

She gasps and runs to the bridge, terrified, but it’s morning now and there’s no sign of Kang Chul. She crouches to the ground in defeat and lets the tears come.

Yeon-joo’s mom sits by Dad’s bedside spilling tears of her own, when suddenly Dad opens his eyes. Oh thank goodness.

At the same time, Yeon-joo and Su-bong speak with the detective on Dad’s case, who tells them that there are a lot of anomalies that he can’t account for. The CCTV in front of Dad’s house didn’t capture anyone going in or out, and they can’t locate the gun, or even the bullet that the surgeon pulled out of Dad’s chest.

While he says this, we see the gun in question turn into a manhwa drawing and disappear, and the same thing happens to the bullet. What.

Yeon-joo and Su-bong give each other the side-eye and keep their mouths shut, and they go to see Dad in the hospital. They tell him that Kang Chul committed suicide on the bridge and that it became the manhwa’s ending, and the publisher is waiting for their approval to upload the last issue.

Su-bong says that he and Yeon-joo have worked out the best possible cover story for Dad’s shooting and the manhwa’s ending, and the next thing we know, the webtoon goes online and the news broadcasts a story about W creator Oh Sung-moo’s suicide attempt, brought about by severe stress and depression over the series ending.

Naturally the manhwa’s ending has the public in an uproar, and fans are beyond upset at the story’s bleak finale and lack of closure for Kang Chul. Crazy Dog is so deflated that he forces Seok-bum to drink with him that night.

A month later, Dad’s workshop is all packed away and cleaned out of anything having to do with W. Yeon-joo puts everything in boxes and then goes to meet with Dad’s publisher, and tells him that Dad hates hospitals so much that they’ve moved him back home and she’s staying there to take care of him.

The publisher says that there are still protests being held by loyal fans, asking to bring Kang Chul back from the dead. The director of the movie adaptation is sitting next to him and sighs that no one will want to see a movie about a hero that dies that way.

They plead with Yeon-joo to ask Dad if he’ll consider bringing Kang Chul back and continuing the series, or even just rewriting the ending. The publisher says it would just take a few frames, but Yeon-joo is firm and says no—Dad is retiring, and he’s been through more stress than they could imagine.

She says it’s not something she could ever ask of him, and makes it clear that Dad’s retirement is final. The publisher turns into a blubbering mess, whining that it’s such a deflating ending to have a hero just die like that without purpose or honor, not even in a cool or emotionally satisfying way.

But Yeon-joo finds herself saying the thing she never thought she’d say: “It’s a manhwa… It’s just a manhwa hero—don’t empathize too much. You’ll forget it soon.” Perhaps she’s saying it more to herself.

Yeon-joo comes home and tells Dad that she made his position clear with the publisher, and he approves. Yeon-joo doesn’t seem so ready to let Kang Chul go, but truthfully, neither does Dad.

Su-bong rushes over with news that the police have found a body in the river that could be Kang Chul, and Yeon-joo is stunned. He rushes her out so they can go identify the body, and Dad watches them go with an inscrutable expression.

Yeon-joo is lost in thought the whole way there, while Su-bong worries about the fact that they can’t exactly identify the body, even if it is Chul. They arrive at the morgue and the police officer says it will be difficult to look at a body that’s been decaying for a month, but Yeon-joo assures them that she’s a doctor and can handle it.

Su-bong can’t though, and pukes as soon as they lift the sheet. Yeon-joo takes a careful look and breathes a sigh of relief when she confirms that it’s definitely not Kang Chul, because this man is wearing a ring.

At the dinner table, Dad probes about where she went with Su-bong today, and Yeon-joo tells him about the body. She wonders why they haven’t been able to find Chul yet, and says with a bit of hope in her voice that he must’ve returned to his manhwa world—that seems fitting since he’s a manhwa character, she thinks. Dad says he doesn’t really know.

She asks, “Dad, when a manhwa says ‘The End,’ what happens after that? Does that world just stop there, or do they live on and we don’t know about it? Fairytales always end that way: ‘And they lived happily ever after.’ But did they really live well until they got old and died, or did it just stop on that last page the moment the fairytale ended?”

Dad reflects on her question and asks if she wants him to bring Kang Chul back from the dead like everyone else, and Yeon-joo quickly says no—he has no reason to do that. Dad says that there’s a reason he can’t do it, and a reason he won’t do it.

He tells her that a week ago, the cops officially closed the case on his shooting and returned his tablet computer, the one that he smashed and left in the motel. They had collected it for evidence, but had no more use for it. Dad admits that when it was returned to him, he wondered if he should bring Kang Chul back. Yeon-joo’s eyes widen.

Dad tells her that he knows Kang Chul better than anyone, and he knows without a doubt that Chul could’ve shot him in the heart and killed him instantly if he’d meant to. Dad decided that since Kang Chul had left him the choice to live, he’d do the same for Chul. In flashback, Dad had turned on his tablet to the closing frame of the webtoon, and began to erase “The End.”

Except it wouldn’t erase. Ohhhhhhh…

Yeon-joo asks why, and Dad says he doesn’t know. He wonders if maybe he and Kang Chul betraying each other severed their ties. Dad says that’s the reason he can’t draw Kang Chul back to life, and the reason he won’t is: Yeon-joo.

Dad: “Do you know why you kept getting pulled into that world?” She doesn’t, but Dad says he figured it out when he saw that Chul left his final letter to her: “You’ve become a main character in the manhwa. You’ve become the heroine. That’s why we have to end it here. Because you’re a real person. And Dad’s daughter. And Mom’s daughter.”

She looks heartbroken, but nods yes. Dad says those are the reasons that W ends here. When she’s alone though, Yeon-joo’s thoughts linger on the idea of “The End,” and what it really means—did Kang Chul ever get a funeral, or is his body still floating in that cold river… forever?

A few weeks later, Dad is on the mend and even goes to New Zealand on holiday with his buddies, and Yeon-joo calls with last-minute instructions for him to take his meds and not drink a drop of alcohol.

When she hangs up with Dad, Crazy Dog suddenly comes into her office and smells her hair. Huh? He notes that she washed it and orders her to come with him to lunch. Well, your nickname is certainly apt, sir.

He takes her to a fancy restaurant, and explains offhandedly that he’s supposed to set his friend up on a blind date today, but the female colleague canceled at the last minute, so Yeon-joo has to be the substitute. He argues that she was the only one in the hospital who’d washed her hair today. LOL.

Yeon-joo curses her clean hair, especially when she so often doesn’t wash it, though she seems to change her mind when she spots a handsome, well-dressed man approaching their table. But he goes in another direction, and ha, She Was Pretty’s Ahn Se-ha comes over to them instead.

Yeon-joo cringes, and Crazy Dog talks up his friend, saying that there’s no such thing as a man who’s tall, good-looking, and smart anyway. Yeon-joo immediately thinks of Kang Chul, of course, and says that they do exist. Crazy Dog: “Who, me?” Pff.

Even funnier is the fact that Ahn Se-ha is playing his She Was Pretty character Poong-ho. His eyes turn to saucers when he sees Yeon-joo, and Crazy Dog misinterprets her incredulous laughter as happiness.

Seok-bum texts Yeon-joo to ask if having washed hair turned out to be lucky or unlucky, and she excuses herself to go to the bathroom and tells him it’s a big ol’ fail. Yeon-joo decides that she’s been ignoring her love life too much lately, and that it’s time to meet new guys, a new one every week, she decides.

Suddenly the line goes dead on both sides, and Seok-bum and Yeon-joo check their phones thinking that the reception cut out. But as Yeon-joo looks around her, she’s immersed in water, which rises rapidly up to her chin, all the way up until she’s completely submerged. Aaaaaaah, is it the Han River?! It came to her?! This is crazy and cool.

At first she tries swimming up, but then she looks around and spots him in the distance: It’s Kang Chul, just suspended there like he hasn’t moved in all this time.

She starts swimming towards him, but it’s so, so far. It takes all her strength to get close to him and she reaches out a hand to his, but just before they can touch, he starts to sink further and further away from her. She tries to reach out again, but she’s losing air, and she’s forced to go back up to the surface.

She swims up, and suddenly reappears in the bathroom, sopping wet from head to toe and gasping for air. WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?

Yeon-joo is completely shaken up after seeing Kang Chul like that, and marches back to the table dripping water everywhere. She asks for a phone (she dropped hers in the river while trying to swim to Kang Chul), and checks the webtoon. Right before her eyes, “The End” disappears from the last frame and gets replaced with “To be continued.” YESSSS!

Without a word of explanation, Yeon-joo walks out on the blind date and runs to Su-bong, who’s now working as an assistant for She Was Pretty’s Hwang Suk-jung, a crazy lady who demands that her manhwa characters get eyes the size of saucers.

Yeon-joo grabs him and says they have to go save Kang Chul, and Su-bong looks at her like she’s got a screw loose. Yeon-joo says they can save him, because time hasn’t passed for Chul—he’s suspended in that moment, where the manhwa ended.

She says he’s still there in the river, and she saw it herself because she was there. Su-bong finally notices that she’s drenched in water and gasps.

They rush back to Dad’s workshop and Su-bong fields a call from the publisher, who says that they didn’t alter the webtoon on their end. The online response is immediate, and people everywhere start to leave comments in anticipation of Kang Chul’s comeback. Dad is still on his flight to New Zealand, so Su-bong says he’ll check in and call the publisher back.

Yeon-joo brings out Dad’s tablet and says it’s been fixed, and she thinks maybe they can use it to save Kang Chul. Su-bong is still shocked and asks if Dad wasn’t the one to change the webtoon, but Yeon-joo reminds him that he’s on a plane, and couldn’t alter it even when he wanted to.

Su-bong, ever the slow one: “So you’re saying that ‘The End’ changed to ‘To be continued,’ all by itself? Why?!” Yeon-joo looks at him wide-eyed: “I don’t know!”

He can’t understand it, especially when it’s not like they tried to kill him off for no reason like before. The hero killed himself, and it ended… so why isn’t it ending, he asks. Yeon-joo thinks on it and says, “He must’ve found a new reason that it couldn’t end.” Su-bong asks what, but Yeon-joo doesn’t know.

At the same time, two bicyclists come upon a hooded figure standing on the ledge of a bridge. Whoa, it’s the killer from Kang Chul’s world! But… is this Yeon-joo’s world? How did he get here?

The bicyclists call out to him and say that it’s dangerous, and suddenly the hooded figure turns on them and swoops down to attack them. As he flies down toward them, we see his face flash—it’s made up of pixels that spark in and out, the way the webtoon frame did when Kang Chul stepped through into this world. What… are you?

Back at the workshop, Su-bong still doesn’t understand why they’re supposed to save Kang Chul when the manhwa ended, and Yeon-joo yells that Chul can’t save himself, and doesn’t have the will to live, which means that they have to save him.

She says that no time has passed in the manhwa, which means they can draw a boat with divers passing by, and they can save Chul in the very next frame. Su-bong is aghast when he realizes that she means for him to draw this, and he cries that W is her father’s work, not his—there might be a miniscule difference in the artwork, but it will be noticeable.

Yeon-joo shouts that Dad won’t do it, because he’s afraid that she’ll get sucked back into the manhwa world. Su-bong runs with that, pointing out her wet hair. But… isn’t that proof that she has no control over that anyway?

She knows he’s right—that Kang Chul shot Dad, that it’s going to be hard for him to be forgiven, that this cursed manhwa ought to end, and that she can’t keep getting sucked into that world. She knows all that, but she says that Dad is alive and well, and they’re all going on as if nothing happened, and people will move past it because it’s just a manhwa character.

“But Kang Chul is in that cold river, feeling guilty that he’s become a murderer… for over two months all alone… That’s too much,” she cries. Su-bong softens a little, and Yeon-joo breaks down as she admits that she thinks it’s all because of her. The tears totally work on Su-bong, and he caves and agrees to try. Yeon-joo says that everything started on Dad’s tablet, so it should work to save him now. Su-bong braces himself and picks up the pen…

But hours go by and he gives up in the middle of drawing the rescue boat. The story doesn’t make any sense because there’s no linking narrative, and he says this is outside his capabilities because he’s just the assistant—W isn’t his.

Su-bong suggests waiting for Dad to land in New Zealand and breaks for a snack, and Yeon-joo hangs her head knowing that Dad will never start drawing this manhwa again. But Su-bong suddenly has a light bulb moment in the kitchen (with a light bulb overhead, heh), and says he heard something once years ago from her father, about W and Yeon-joo…

Cut to: Prison visiting booths, where guards suddenly discover Yeon-joo lying on the ground in her prison jumpsuit, right where she’d disappeared from, the last time she was in Kang Chul’s world.

We rewind to the moment that Chul jumped off the bridge on that rainy night, but this time a rescue boat sees him and divers bring him up to the surface right away. Kang Chul wakes up with a start in his bed, as if it’s all a dream. But his hand still has the scars from his fight with Dad. And he’s back in his world…

And in the prison, Yeon-joo opens her eyes and looks around, and breaks into a huge smile. Awwww yeah, we’re back!

COMMENTS

What did Su-bong tell her?! Gah, these cliffhangers! My guess is still that Yeon-joo will turn out to be Kang Chul’s original creator, at least on a conceptual level. It probably never occurred to her or Dad because she was young at the time, and he was likely inspired by one of her drawings. But maybe if she drew Kang Chul first and then he spun the character into a story worthy of a manhwa series, it’s possible that Yeon-joo really IS the key to Kang Chul’s life, in a way that he never even imagined. I don’t know if that’s where they’re going, but I know I would love it if Yeon-joo had creator-god power over Kang Chul’s world.

Dad made it clear that his ties to the manhwa had already been severed, which he assumed was caused by his and Kang Chul’s mutual betrayal. But now I wonder if the root of that change is something different, and if it has to do with Yeon-joo. Clearly Dad had control over Kang Chul’s story to some extent, but is it really that Chul’s will overcame his own, or does it have to do with what Yeon-joo wanted for the story, and for Kang Chul to get what he wanted? Does he actually have less free will than he thinks? It was so interesting to see that Dad has affection for Chul too, despite only showing abject horror at his rogue creation up until now. But he does have a soft fatherly devotion to the character, and I found that fascinating and realistic. Dad ultimately still can’t be trusted when it comes to Kang Chul, since he would throw Chul under the bus (literally) the second he proved himself dangerous, but I really enjoy the complexity of this character that loves and despises, fears and understands his creation more than anyone.

The more that Yeon-joo starts to take over the storytelling, I keep thinking of W the manhwa as a daddy-daughter bedtime story. Despite the scale of the manhwa, at its basic level W is not that different from a bedtime story Dad tells to his daughter, where he gets to make up all the rules as he invents the story, and she gobbles up the fantasy world with delight. I love that Yeon-joo represents the innocent child—she asks him all the things a child would ask, like what a happily-ever-after really means for the characters in that story world, and whether their lives go on even if the story ends. But the part that’s interesting is that she’s an active participant in the storytelling, like a father saying, “Once upon a time, there was a princess in a pink dress in a castle,” and the daughter goes, “No! A blue dress! In a penthouse!” and Dad goes, “Okay, a blue dress in a fancy penthouse then…” The story is Dad’s, but it’s also the daughter’s, and it’s as if Yeon-joo is changing the story by interjecting to say that she doesn’t like the direction things are going in. And because the story is ultimately hers—he invents it and keeps it going to make her happy—she has that power.

I don’t know what it’ll mean for Yeon-joo now that she’s become, as Dad says, the heroine of Kang Chul’s story—that’s a complication that’ll surely have dire consequences down the line. But there was a distinct shift in this episode to Yeon-joo being the main storyteller who drove Kang Chul’s narrative. Whatever she does at the end of the episode successfully restarts his entire world and brings him back to life, and I’m pretty sure she didn’t sit there and draw all that out. It has to be tied to her will somehow. But then, was she also the one who caused the bathroom to flood and turn into the Han River? Or was Kang Chul calling out to her? Maybe he was about to walk towards the light when he heard her say that she’d be going on a blind date every week?

And how come no one knows that W’s villain is different from the rest of the characters in that world? How come he didn’t freeze like everyone else? Did he cross over into the world via Kang Chul’s portal… or does he have a portal of his own? Ack. Please don’t tell me he can just move freely between worlds—I don’t know if I can handle a faceless assassin just showing up wherever he pleases. Is he human? Is he a glitch? Is he faceless because Dad doesn’t know what he looks like?? Ohmygah, please just draw him a face already—it’s creeping me out that he doesn’t have one! If he looks that way because Dad never bothered to decide his identity or give him a face, my mind is blown. Note to any writers out there: Everyone deserves a face!

I have so many questions about the gun and bullet suddenly disappearing from Yeon-joo’s world, and Kang Chul returning to his world despite dying and being suspended in the river. But I’m sure that stuff will be unraveled soon enough. I have to say, I’m excited for the return to Kang Chul’s universe, because things get wackier over there, and now Yeon-joo will have a whole new set of narrative rules to navigate—whatever power it is that sent her back there. The only downside is less screen time for Yeon-joo’s friends, but I’m hoping we cut back and forth often. Because I can never get enough of Su-bong’s shock-face, probably because it mirrors mine as I watch every episode of this show.

I am sorry but I have to tell somebody because nobody in my world watches K-dramas. This story has stark similarities to an Indian film called RaOne. Only that was set in the world of computer games. But the narrative handling is much better in this drama, even though that was a film with OTT budget and production value. The hooded figure is....W? Ooooh! Possibilities!

That movie was a excellent concept but the story went completely off the rails !
I can still taste the disappointment I had when I was watching it in theatre. Being a srk fan, it was so hard to watch all the stupid ways the plot keeps going to.

the plot of this drama is always unpredictable on each episode for me.

talk about the villain, suddenly I remember the shadow of person that appeared on the first episode of nine. who then turns out to be ... *spoilers. yeah you know who it was if you've watched nine.

While I still enjoy W and I'm still hooked, there's one scene that I didn't like. The scene in the comfort room when YJ suddenly started to drown out of the blue... what was that about? While I understand that she keeps on being dragged back in the webtoon (still not sure if that scene was in the webtoon though) or finds herself in unusual situations (apparently when she's on the phone), the methods used before made sense or at least had the necessary set-up/environment. However, this was absolutely weird (except for the fact that she's in the comfort room so yeah I guess since there's water?!). I believe it could have been shown better. For example, they could have shown her bathing in a bath tub when suddenly she's pulled downwards or the water rises. It was a WTF moment and not in a good way for me.

I'd like to hear others' thoughts on possible explanations to this scene because at this point I just enjoy reading theories and explanations rather than making them myself because brain can no longer accommodate. lol

I have no more clue, ep 6 give many half scenes, like the letter (did we know what is written there? or I maybe missed something),
then the plot holes Subong asked Yeon Joo,

Before I read GF's joke in the recap, I also thought it was her trying to move on with her love life that triggered the pull back into the webtoon. Like, "Hey, you're the heroine, how can you move on when the hero is stuck underwater?"

I don't think she has to be in the bathtub for it to make sense. Remember when she was talking to Su-bong over the phone and got dragged back to the fitting room? Kang-chul wasn't in danger then and there was no reason to be in the fitting room other than "The story needs you to be here."

That's actually my theory even in the past episodes. The pattern for her poofing in and out of W is because she's a main character and she needs to be in a certain place at a certain time.

@mary

True, just like what KC says - I don't remember why I did something but A was set up for B to happen. She became the main character whose thoughts and actions are now chronicled.

But the water thing was scary for a moment. Like all those horror films - I can't remember the name , but there was a Hollywood one where bathroom gets flooded and ghost travels through pipes and showers?

Have you ever seen anyone so happy to wake up in prison?! Loved that last scene!

Aside from the plot, this is a little belated but I was very happy when I saw both Kang Ki Young, acting as Yeon Joo's best surgeon buddy Kang Suk Bum, and Lee Tae Hwan, acting as Chul's bodyguard best buddy Seo Do Yoon, are both in this drama. They've been in several dramas together in the past couple of years. They were in the same crew in Come Back Ahjussi, and were 2/3 of the awesome friend trio with Seo In Guk in in High School King of Savvy. I sort of see them as the ultimate kdrama buddies.

YJ momentarily forgot that she's convicted because of how happy she is to be back in KC's world. I wonder how will the writer twist the story to release her from prison. Seriously, all I do these days is wonder because my brain is too tired to work up theories for this drama. haha

Aww me too. I liked High School King and I love the trio!

SO excited for the next EP. Ready to see Kang Chul's world again. I wonder how will Yeon Joo get out of prison this time so that she won't be a fugitive anymore.

I think KC calls out to her intuitively to save him when there is trouble. She is the key to his life. Everytime she has crossed over he has been close to trouble or death..

The manhwa world characters seem to have been developing free agency alongside KC. I found SH particularly interesting in ep 4. There was seemingly no director but she sat down, thought and executed a plan to expose/get rid of YJ. Her rationale was quite complex a mixture of jealousy concern etc.

Same for faceless hoodie. He's probably developed over time. Noticed he doesn't kill off KC at their two confrontations we saw. I think he's the glitch in the manhwa necessary to keep KC motivated.

That moment when Kang Chul looked up from the concept art notebook, into the mirror, and realised exactly how he got his face…

The fact that with just one idea change or even by flight of fancy he could’ve looked completely different. Literally his entire existence rests in the hands of others.

God, that moment was so horrifying and heartbreaking. Superb.

What an amazing trifecta of storytelling, acting, and directing that managed to beautifully convey such a complex and tragic character beat.

I love how wonderfully complex they’ve made Kang Chul despite how easy it would’ve been for him to be flat, considering he’s technically a manhwa character. lol He’s fun and charming, yes, but he has a sliver of pain and cruelty that can leak out if he lets it.

People are a bit angry over Kang Chul’s darkness (shooting Yeon Joo and her father) but in my opinion that darkness and that rage are what elevate his character out of his trope-y manhwa existence and into “real life.”

I feel like people are expecting the hero his manhwa profile outlines but in actuality the very nature of the drama’s story requires that he buck that hero label.

Usually hero stories involve good people struggling to do what’s right while resisting the urge to do evil. For anti-hero stories, people are doing bad for good reasons or doing good for selfish reasons and sometimes they even end up on a redemption arc. Kang Chul is far closer to the anti-hero side of things. Especially the selfishness aspect. His need to distinguish himself from the page regardless of what that means for others (those locked in stasis in the manhwa, Daddy Douche’s life, etc.) is at the heart of his journey to existence.

Kang Chul is in a “meta state,” shall we say. He is fighting for his right to exist, for free will and autonomy, outside of the page. That means rejecting what has been preordained by his creators, Daddy Douche and Yeon Joo as it turns out. Yet, because he was originally written to be a tragic but good and perfect hero trope, breaking free of those controlling him means doing unexpectedly cold and cruel things…for now. In addition, he’s also struggling to reject the label of “monster” that Daddy Douche has given him now that Kang Chul is sentient.

It’s easy to see how negative the dad’s creative control is but I think Yeon Joo’s, while kinder, is just as detrimental on an existential level as it means Kang Chul still has not achieved real autonomy.

Ultimately, I think Kang Chul taking control of his own narrative and becoming truly real means breaking free of both Daddy Douche and Yeon Joo.

It’ll be interesting to see where they take Kang Chul during his journey. Can he break free from his creators? How? Will he find a middle ground between acquiescence to the kindness his manhwa profile says he is to have and the cruelty his existential rage awakens within him?

While it was not right for Kang Chul to shoot Yeon Joo's father - I completely agree that it was really important for him. It really shows him trying to rebel and break away from that "set up" the father gave him. He does not want to be some one's puppet creation anymore.

I am really curious to see where this will take him in future characterization.

It wasn't right--but I still wanted him to shoot so bad, it scared me. I wanted him to prove his autonomy (and Dad deserved it so dang much) but I also didn't want him to commit murder.

It was kind of like wanting Lawyer Jung not to have any consequences in IRY, if you've seen it. I've never rooted for a killer before, but that show almost made me want to, just so the bromance could live on.

what I really like about the shot is that it happen once,

many cases of defence shooting can be disqualified if the victim shoots more than once since the 1st can be considered their instant reaction,

in related to kang chul, it means that he didn't fully mean to kill the dad, it's his reaction because the dad provokes him so bad, he could have shot the 2nd bullet or shot su bong,

his scene implied that he is angry and he knew he did wrong,

There's a legal term, "fighting words" and it refers to something said that so infuriates you that it's reasonable you might lose control. Telling someone they are essentially a puppet without will and unable to do X would absolutely be fighting words in mind. He had to shoot the guy to prove he was a real person to himself. But of course, he can then have regret and guilt. Doing it once - yes, that shows it was just a momentary snap.

I've always wanted to say Han Bridge is probably my favorite thing about Kdramas. I don't know about other bridges and bridges in other places. I know there's call boxes but the inspiration phrases is amazing. As someone who has had suicidal ideation since I was 3, I appreciate the attempt to help. After this episode I'm going to search for other bridges and high risk zones that do that.

1) So turns out, I didn't want Dad to die. It's easier to choose when you know there's another episode. *he might be back in my good graces and be back to Appa. Idk, I'm fickle*
2) I'm mad at Kang Chul though. Don't leave me.
3) Dude! That moment with the webtoon and note being delivered at the same time! I stopped breathing. What if you could see key events right before they happened?!
4) Covering it up as a double suicide was clever. Can you get any more star crossed than pseudo creator & creation? The bullet and gun disappearing was amazing! I thought the wound would too but no.
5) Lee Shi Un continues to be the most uplifting part of this show.
6) I still feel like Yeon Joo's mom is going to be important to Chul's life.
7) Yeon Joo was adorably childlike when she asked about the books ending and what happens to the characters. And she mimicked most of us.

I had more but I still have 20 minutes to watch. I'll watch more, read the recap, react to that, and give my theories. I like that I have a system now.

8) omo, when she was suddenly in the water! So semi- officially it is being on the phone that is the trigger?
9) was is being told she was the creator that sent her back to the manhwa, Main Character style? Or did they draw her in to play the KC bridge scene?
10) I was so proud of myself for reading 끝 that it took me a moment to realize why I could read it. I know the end but not to be continued. Bittersweet.
11) The faceless culprit looked amazing. And flew at the bystanders in an uncontrolled way. Possessed much? *anyone else got reminded of Electro by Mr. Faceless?* (Batman, Spiderman, what's next Purple?)

Well, that'd all I thought while I watched. Time to read the recap.

I thought (7) was cute too--and then it got all twisty on me and I wondered what happens to my characters when I stop writing. Does they're world end? What if I drop the project? So now I feel super motivated to write again.

on (8), I feel like the phone ought to have something to do with it--phones were a fairly big deal in QIHM too, and if makes me want to re-watch Nine and see if they are there too. It would be trippy if they were all somehow connected.

Reading the recap

1) forgot about the rain. I thought I just kept raining but then I realized the rain YJ is caught in going to the house is the same rain Chul was walking in after shooting Dad.
2) I get why YJ took over in the ambulance. EMT are out-ranked by doctors. But I'm glad she wasn't allowed to operate on her dad. I don't know if it's legal in Korea. I don't know if it's illegal in the USA. But operating on family seems like it should be. In Doctors they've made it seem perfectly acceptable to operate on family.
3) My one issue with Su Bong was when he made it seem like Yeon Joo was to blame for things getting this far. In the abstract, yes. But so not what she needs to hear right now.
4) These types of dramas always show the bullet but it felt different here for some reason. Then that twist!!!
5) I know this isn't the time but LJS looks good in his "killing" suit
6) Seok Bum is climbing up my favorite list
7) I forgot about the manhwa being censored and sent by some other personage. Who?! Why?! W dudumdum
8) Covering up the murder attempt was necessary and they did it well. But is it possible to shot oneself where Dad was shot? Why isn't anyone in Yeolworld calling that out?
9) So now that Chul may be okay, is the story going to include the truth about the two worlds? How will they paint it as two failed suicide attempts when the public knows one wasn't actually written? Or is the heavy censoring back on?
10) The moment Chul dropped the gun was well directed and acted. I felt the despair down to my bones.
11) I thought Chul spent all his money reading the volumes. Maybe that was an exaggeration or he stole that pen and paper. Which wouldn't be the worst thing he did that night.
12) Again, not the time buy that sad smile before he falls was perfect *and annoyingly cute, it's supposed to be sad!*
13) *am I terrible person?* I thought it would be so funny if the drama stopped there when OYJ was at the bridge. The End for us and confusion for 5 weeks. That would be great. Not on this drama because I'd be mad. But imagine if it was planned from the beginning and the whole team was in on it. They were paid to act like they would be busy for months but really the drama would stop less than halfway through. A planned ending, not a cut. That would be fresh and the response would be intriguing and possibly creative.
14) Meta aside, I don't understand the reaction to Kang Chul's death. A #savekangchul petition would be fine. If the writer didn't attempt suicide too! But maybe that just me. I couldn't sign it. I'd be afraid of him reworking or "fixing" the story and then committing another attempt. What if he accomplished it this time? "I got my ending but the writer died." No thank you!

Anyway, I have to sleep. I'll be back to finish the recap and then participate in the fun. Throwing out a guess: 475-700 comments when I get up in 6 hours or when I settle at work in 7 hours. Time...

I totally agree on 2, 5, 10 and 12. And 14--I was worried he'd have another breakdown and kill more webtoon people. I still don't know if I want him to get some kind of consequences for stabbing Chul. I guess KC shot him, so they're kinda sorta even. In a weird way.

As for 13, I would laugh so hard if they did that. And get mad. Here's how I'd hope it went: regular episodes til now, stopped for five weeks... and then pick it back up again. I have no idea how people would react or even if they'd fall for it, but it's an interesting idea.

Crazy! This drama is crazy and the brilliant writer has turned crazy!

After throwing us a gripping, dark toned episode 5, today we face 30 minutes of tragic and bleak... and then all of a sudden a dose of horror??! We were then given few minutes where you get a glimpse of hope and the trailer shows next week it's gonna be SWEET! Why do I suddenly feel that yeah, we are in a real toon... there is just no rules of how this drama will go.

Mr Hooded Man... ok, we are getting DC now. Feels like he is a villian with supernatural powers. Will Chul transform into a black-suited Spiderman? Squeeee!!!!

And Chul, poor Chul... you come closest to Nam Soon this episode. And that is saying a lot. Nam Soon is by far this poor fangirl's most favourite character of the one playing you. Who the hell left you in that water for so long???!! ohh.... it's writer-nim.

Btw I think Yeon Joo's mama has a greater role yet to be revealed. Is she the culprit behind the evil in this story?

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

I'm not really into trying to find answers before they are due. I prefer to let the story take me to where it's to be. But, after having the thought that mom has a bigger role, a possibility just refuse to go away from the mind. Maybe, this is what happened...

Years ago, Dad was an unsuccessful comic artist. Mom was not happy about it (an earlier episode mentioned this). She probably thought that he should be doing something else to bring back more dough and blamed his interest. Her disatisfaction with him made her temper his comic. She drew the scene of Kang Chul's family massacre to end it so he could focus on real life. Dad found out too late to stop the publication and their relationship became even worse and mom walked out with YJ. The divorce devastated dad and he decided to end Kang Chul's life by making him commit suicide. YJ, who loves the comic, was so sad to hear Dad's killing the character and she cried a river. Yeah, somehow her tears or emotions saved KC and we have the turning point of the comic W. But it does not end here since the murderer mom drew is still out there. Or who knows, therefore, mom is really Mr Hooded Man. And Dad knows. That's why he refused to tell KC who the murderer is. It's the Mrs!

Tada.

More importantly, between this and Uncontrollably Fond, apparently girls just don't shower or wash their hair ever in Korea and they still look completely fine. Life is so unfair.

I am dying to know what Su Bong told her. If he knows the W secret, can he punch his ticket to the manhwa as well, since we know he would obviously love that and it would be endlessly entertaining for us to watch? I cracked up at Hwang Suk Jung's eyes the size of cookies obsession. Manhwa girls always have the biggest eyes.

I honestly didn't see any way how Yeon Joo could forgive Kang Chul for almost killing her father, but Dad's explanation makes perfect sense. An Olympic gold medalist would never have missed had he intended to kill him, so he meant to spare his life. On the flip side, this got Dad to quit drinking, so he was actually helping him. Though I can't believe they went with suicide for their cover story because what a burden on Dad for everyone to believe he tried to kill himself.

Thanks a bunch for the recap, girlfriday!

Thank you GF >3<

"I would love it if Yeon-joo had creator-god power over Kang Chul’s world"

She's literally his goddess!

"But he does have a soft fatherly devotion to the character, and I found that fascinating and realistic."

Been saying this even when everyone else's hating on Dad =D! Exactly because Dad is so, so REAL! He as an artist is the embodiment of so many conflicting and complex emotions, making him the most intriguing (though not really lovable) character in a world where everyone else is either heroic, nice, or outright evil.

"I keep thinking of W the manhwa as a daddy-daughter bedtime story"

Omo! Such lovely and precise way of describing W in a nutshell! Haha this bedtime story gets several hundreds (thousands?) more twists and turns than our typical bedtime story though, and daddy's girl became the heroine herself fighting evil alongside the hero ;-)

"Maybe he was about to walk towards the light when he heard her say that she’d be going on a blind date every week?"

While this would be way too hilarious the reason KC's subconscious will to live came back to him, the timing was just too suspicious LOL!

I am actually really excited that the hooded killer is actually scary! It wouldn't be fun if he isn't =D!!!

And aww, I love all three "ordinary human" men in YJ's life! Mad Dog has *always* made me laugh, except when he was rescuing Dad (he was cool then!). Seok-bum is just such a nice friend (and I think KC was onto something, I think Seok-bum does have a secret crush on YJ). And I just LOVE Su-bon who's like a true sibling of YJ, he couldn't resist her puppy eyes/tears! Well at least it seems like Su-bon will continue to act like noona's sidekick even as she goes back in and out of the W World <3

Lastly, I've seen people complain about Ep. 6 being slow, but *this is already sufficiently fast* as compared to other regular dramas! It's just that we've been SPEEDING like crazy in Ep. 1-5 xD!!! So I thought it was nice to get a breather before the second installment of the series begins. I'm super excited about next week's episodes though, like our crazy heroine who must have been the happiest jail-breaker that found herself back in prison XD!!!

200% AGREE!!! Not Slow but well paced!

If this story didn't slow down and reveal the more real world changes and revelations (love Dads human side) than this story would be come more comic. I felt this episode helped ground the show much better and sets us up for the future.
Gosh the Villian is so cool (the best Heros are made from the best villians! Joker fan)

Korean dramas have the uncanny ability to make impossible things (sci-fi exp- signal) feel realistic. Like this director said he focused on the emotions of the characters and I think that's the key. The actors are so focused on their roles that we feel it's reality.

Always felt like I am watching a movie (I would be more scared cause movies never guarantee a happily ever after...drama seam safer..please writer nim! XI)

Love how YJ could be the original creator. Like how KC was originally her imaginary friend. Lot of single kids with parent problems start creating imaginary friend and world for support. I truly Can't predict this drama, but it's too late now and cause I'm fully invested in the story and characters!

I actually think that the killer is actually programmed to kill all KC's loved ones, maybe including KC himself in the end. Since he fell in love with YJ, the killer has followed her to the real world to kill her since in the manhwa world she's immortal.

-- it's a minor detail but I noticed how KC folded his goodbye letter in half at the convenient store. Yet, it was delivered folded in 3.
-- I don't get why YJ got pulled into the Han River at that time. Why not earlier when she has been thinking of KC? If it was KC who unconsciously pulled her , why at that moment ? Or was it triggered by someone else ?
-- we keep seeing the words "life sometimes is..." (or something along that line) on the bridge. I wonder if we would ever see the rest of the sentence.
-- so I guess we'll start a new chapter of W, yay! But how would KC know whether his thoughts and actions are truly his, and not decided by a writer? How will he feel about all this ?
-- if YJ becomes a writer and needs ideas without asking her dad, she should call Anthony !
-- is KC now going to be the one protecting and saving YJ's life (from the faceless killer)?
-- I hope KC and Dad will forgive each other at the end. Dad did try to kill KC in person. KC did shoot him, although intentionally sparing his life.

-- I wish I could create nice banners. I think we need some W-Two Worlds headers for our DramaBeans site !

KC is satisfied or as satistified as he can be with his ending. That why the manhwa was able to end.

Faceless hoodie comes to the real world. He is not happy at webtoon's ending and is gonna off YJ to reinitiate the webtoon. KC senses this and intuitively calls out to YJ to give him life so he can protect her..

Man I am going crazy too.

Oh, I really like your reading of it. Still doesn't cover mechanics of how all this manhwa-jumping is happening, or the Who of it, but what a great interpretation of the Why!

Maybe they could put up signs saying "Don't bother jumping -- just wait for our hooded ninja assassins to take care of your problem".

(I still like the suicide nets on the buildings at Foxconn in China)

@siesta -- thanks for the link! I googled to find the ending of the sentence but couldn't find anything. I wonder if the show picked that spot for its meaning (Bridge of Life + quote with the word "life").

I think the killer is programmed to kill all of KC loved ones, maybe even KC himself. Since KC has fallen for YJ, he's out to kill her. And since she's immortal in the manhwa world, he has entered her world to kill her
The killer was actually pointing the gun and YJ and no KC in KC's room.

OMGGGG that explains the unnecessarily long two-cuts onto Yeung-ju's face in that episode, and why the killer disappeared from the elevator, instead of killing or fighting with Kang Chul. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Killer was aiming for Yeung-ju!!!!!!!

I think the bad blind date triggered the big upsets at the end.
That got Yeon-Joo interested in dating somebody better than the geek, which got her interested in you-know-who, which was enough to break his death-wish and suck him out of the void and into at least partial existence, which sucked her into the river...
... which doesn't do anything to explain our hooded Nazgul assassin showing up in otherworld and attacking passers-by. Somebody help me out here.

Lipidvits said something good above.

That if Nazgul is setup to kill Kang-chul's loved ones, then he could have crossed over to hurt Yeon-joo.

What a great episode! Because of this show "W" becomes my favorite letter of the alphabet.

I'm just wondering, why when OYJ got too the bridge she's wearing her clothes from real world, but when she got into the prison, she's wearing the prisoner clothes.

It makes me think that may SB wrote her to be in there to make the story continue like what the other beanies said.

And how I'm going to wait for another week? This show makes me crazy, that good kind of crazy.

Wow, this show continues to blow my mind with each episode. The writer's spin on an old classic (pinocchio - LJS was in drama called pinocchio right?) is simply ingenious. My guess is Oh Yeon Joo is definitely connected as a co-creator of Kang Chul. Yippie, we will be seeing more of the bodyguard and so hee in the next episode.

So...I saw these set of questions on mydramalist page and thought I should repost this here to help a chingu out. I have not watched this drama so I don't know how to answer:

This drama confuses me with its comic world vs real world situation. I still have so many questions:
- Why is it Yeon Joo that keeps getting pulled in so often? Even if she's the one who came up with the ideas of W first, why can her dad continue it? He was the first to be pulled in; so why didn't that continue? Maybe because he wasn't the one Chul needed to save him?
- Why did she get pulled in with the water? Was it just to make her aware that she could change things? Why two months later? Because she had finally reconciled herself to moving on and once again Chul needed saving?
- Seung Moo said there was no killer but there obviously is one now. If so, is it because Yeon Joo continued the story?
- How is her dad suddenly so less bitter and jaded and off the alcohol? I get it, being nearly shot by your manhwa hero is probably an eye-opening experience but still. He did a complete 360 here.
- Why did the ending change from "The End" to "To Be Continued" after she fell in the water? She certainly didn't save him then, it shouldn't have changed until she physically changes the ending. Again, was it all just a clue for her to realize he could be saved?

Bonus: Episode 6 kind of has references to She Was Pretty? That is: Kim Poong Oh (in SWP Kim Poong Ho) plus the crazy boss lady singing in bad (I'm assuming it's bad but I have no idea) Italian.

I get this is a drama and therefore has its own rules but I'm still discombobulated even as much as I've been loving it.

well I'll try my best in my opinion

>>the reason why yeon joo got pulled is because she becomes part of webtoon world since the 1st encounter,
then why dad can't? It because the dad disown his own webtoon, betraying it by literally stab kang chul so the W world who revolves around Kang Chul as the main lead severed their ties to the dad,
in the other hand, yeon joo keeps saving kang cheol which is helping the world so she keeps pulling in when kang cheol needs her

>>why she get pulled into the water . . .
it because the webtoon continued, the webtoon was ended before with kang chul suicide. Then 2 months later, I assumed some strange phenomena happen, like the faceless killers desire to finish his job but he can't since the webtoon already end and kang chul froze in the lake,
the killers finally find kang chul under the bridge but nothing can happen while his desire makes him another lead in the story, like the main villain that resulted in making the webtoon world of W alive again.
But in order to make the world progress, kang chul should be saved but how?
the world pulls the heroine to saved him,

- Sung Moo said there's no killer
yes, there's no real killer, means that he never created someone that could be the killer, it just a plot device to make a backstory,
some hollow man without a name, family, story or history, only a thing that harm kang chul as the main lead,
so he had no name, no address, no any information for the killers,
then why there's one now?
IMO it because after he created it, he used it several times recently but lose power over it after the confrontation with kang chul in the real world, so the killer is in rampage mode to complete the last mission he took, to kill kang chul

>>the dad personality changes? maybe he still shocked that kang chul shoots him in front of his eyes, his worst fear comes true,
kang chul get to the real world and try to kill him

>>why did the ending changes?
because the villain doesn't accept the ending and there's a possibility to continue the story,

so the W doesn't have real antagonist at 1st but the usage of hollow man over and over make him the antagonist and all the lead play a big part in the story continuation . Since kang chul didn't commit suicide in the webtoon world but in the real world,
he just frozen in time, not literally disappear and
plot-wise, this mean he still can be killed, therefore the killer and the heroine still has a story

I also thought that the hollow man also corroborate with the webtoon world defence mechanism, it allowed him because his action can protect the mystery of the webtoon's world.
well this is my interpretation, can't guarantee it as the truth,
love the cameo and hope you can understand my view

Sancheezy answered it all great, but to add:

When Dad wrote the first suicide, I think that's when W cutoff its ties with him. I mean, this ending with Kang Chul (finding the Dad, and realizing there are no answers,) is a kind of answer, whereas the first bridge was completely nonsensical and cut off the story before its time.

And Dad being calmer after surgery is because he had been going crazy from his manhwa changing without his writing it, but now the break is clean: he sees that Kang Chul didn't kill him after all (even though he did shoot him) and the manhwa is over; he can put down his pen and that would give him peace.

This show presents the real life quandry so well..

As an author if you have found success with a workpiece, and then when fans start pestering you,c alling you names, doing whatever to make sure the story flws their wishes..

No one bothers about the author who may have just got tired and bored of his creation and wants to explore something new..

For the fans, the original writer is the god..if he writes it , it is true. All other writers become fanfics or duplicate of the original.. nothing spells the world 'truly happening' as the original author..

E.g. if rowling writes it, the HP world moves.. if anyone writes it, it maybe fun to read, but then you know that it is not hP world... :)

And how incredibly powerful a position is it where you can influence mental, emotional capacity of millions of people with just a stroke of a pen..

PS: Just finished cursed child.. and I can't say how happy I am that in some universe they let snape know how awesome he was and that people recognize it... :D .. anyone else writing it would have still not closed the loop

I like how the writer handled the situation of Dad being shot. It was my first time to see Professor Park be serious and somewhat caring when he operated on Dad.

I was expecting for Dad to go all "See! He's truly monster!" But he did not and he even tried to draw again. I also like that YJ did not mope that KC's gone. For sure, deep inside, she's sad and that was shown on her face, but I like that she went on with her life (for a few months).

Almost not much KC in this episode, but I like it. It was focused on Dad and YJ for a change.

Hmmm.... The Olympics are scheduled years in advance the the network executives are just thinking of this now? If they are thinking of doing that to a hit like W, what would they have done to a low-rated show?????

If they do cancer or postpone, Kang Chul and the hooded Nazgul assassin might even agree on who the next target should be. KC likes to shoot people but doesn't kill them, yet. Third time's the charm.

And writer-nim can just do the missing episodes as a manwha.

I'd rather they postpone the episodes than for the drama to suffer dips in ratings due to the Games. Its best that the viewers are focused on the drama than to have W compete with a major world event such as the Rio Olympics. It's not that bad because starting EP 7 it is a new chapter in the drama. It's like EP 1-6 were part of Season 1 and after the Olympics we'll be continuing with Season 2. I'm very sad as well and the wait will be insane, but I'd prefer which one will give the best result for the drama.

I had the feeling that in episode 5 Kang Chul's journey into the real world will turn into manhwa as well. I don't know if it's just me but I feel like the camera movements and position (I don't know what the correct terms are) are different in manhwa and in real world. Even when Kang Chul entered the real world aka Yeon joo's world, the camera moves the same as in manhwa. And this episode proves I was right. Yay!

There are so many things that are left unexplained yet about this drama universe but I put my trust on this creative writer. It has been so long since I feel so excited because of a drama. Therefore Show, please please be good till the end.

I've got a feeling that this is a story of a manga world within a manga. Yeon Joo and Dad are manga characters where Dad is the manga writer who writes a manga world for Kang Chul. The actual writer of these manga worlds are Yeon Joo and Kang Chul. Just my take on the story twist as there are narrations made by Kang Chul and Yeon Joo as third parties.
