Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

New shows! I love it when a brand new crop of shows changes the way your week goes, because all of a sudden your Mondays could seem a little brighter, simply because of a cheeky crown prince and his crossdressing eunuch. I enjoy discovering a new show so much that I’m almost never sad about seeing a drama end, even if I loved it. I guess I’m always just too curious about what new love could be around the bend. –girlfriday

Currently recapping: W–Two Worlds

Doctors: I watched all twenty episodes, but I liked the heroine more in Episode 1 than I did in Episode 20. Maybe sometimes people don’t need to change, okay? The cost of hindsight was pretty steep on that life lesson, but I did the time, so I’m sharing that nugget with all of you. You’re welcome.

Bring It On, Ghost: What, Seo Hyun-jin’s cameo was totally WASTED! Why would you bring her on for a guest appearance and give her no funny lines, no inside jokes, no… anything? BAH. YOU DID IT WRONG.

The Good Wife: I’m happy with where the heroine is at this point in her life, but that makes me nervous for finale week, which I’m scared will screw everything up and leave us with some kind of open-ended vague ending, promising a second season which we’ll never see in this lifetime, ruining everything forever and ever. Just do anything but that, okay?

Age of Youth: I’m always surprised by how much character development they can pack into this short series, but I already know I want more episodes. I feel like the real friendships just got started, and I love the bonding that’s happening among the roommates. Yes, there are mysteries to be solved in the final week. But don’t skimp on the bonding!

Cinderella and the Four Knights: This is such an easy, breezy watch that I’ll probably end up sticking with it. But I swear, if this director does that SWOOSH! SWOOP! SWOON! with the tinkly music to tell us that This Is Romantic one more time, I will throw something. Stop. It.

Jealousy Incarnate: I’m not totally sold on the love triangle yet, but I’m sure that’ll take some time to establish. I may even be more interested in the supporting characters, like the funny little makeshift family that lives above Chef’s restaurant. This show feels more like a sitcom than a miniseries because of the bizarre living arrangement and the intersecting families (like the High Kick franchise, for instance), so I think it could be a fun watch if I readjust my expectations for a sitcom-esque setup.

Moonlight Drawn By Clouds: This is exactly what I needed on Mondays and Tuesdays to balance out my tense Wednesdays and Thursdays—something bright and sweet and full of puppies and rainbows. It’s a cheeky parody with lots of meta humor, but it doesn’t forget to be a good drama with story and heart underneath the jokes, which makes me happy. And I had forgotten how much I missed Park Bo-gum on my screen. Never leave again!

Currently recapping: Uncontrollably Fond, Bring it On, Ghost

Police Unit 38: I somehow got hung up around Episode 5, and only recently got back to the show, and this time around it’s really grabbing me. The twists and turns are enough to give me a neck cramp, and I have a feeling the show isn’t nearly finished with me yet.

Cinderella and the Four Knights: This really feels like an older drama, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s bright and simple, with endearing characters and a heroine that’s sweet but never a pushover. It actually reminds me a lot of You’re Beautiful, my all-time favorite drama, so I’m enjoying the similar-but-new feeling.

Good Morning Call: This Netflix original J-dorama is your quintessential forced-cohabitation drama, about a couple of high school kids who end up living in the same apartment when they’re conned by the landlord. Of course, the girl is plain and unexceptional while the boy is the most popular kid in school. But all isn’t what it seems, and watching them learn to be friends and then more is good clean fun.

Moonlight Drawn By Clouds: Just the cutest thing ever. I love the cheekiness of both the Prince and Ra-on, and the relationships between the Prince, Yoon-sung and Byung-yeon are layered and interesting. I even find the court intrigue interesting, which is unusual for me. I have a good feeling about this one.

W–Two Worlds: What is happening I don’t even… ?

SailorJumun

Currently recapping: Age of Youth

Moonlight Drawn By Clouds: I can already tell this is going to be my cotton candy show of the week. But for cuties Park Bo-gum and Kim Yoo-jung, I’m willing to get a cavity or two.

W–Two Worlds: Kang Chul, don’t even think about accepting the fate New-Face has planned for you. You are not destined for a sad ending, you understand? This is your story — not his — so make your own ending, or I’ll buy one of those magic tablets and make it for you.

Five Kids: Now that it’s over, I want to lock this show up in a little box and cherish it forever. It didn’t exactly do everything I wanted it to do and there were a good number of episodes I found boring, but I loved the wacky characters so much that in the end, I’m thankful I got to spend as much time as I did with them.

Doctors: Oh, the finale’s up? Eh… *shuts laptop and walks away*

HappilyEverAfter

W–Two Worlds: I’m probably biased but the game is shifting way too much in the villain’s favor! I guess we need Chul at rock-bottom for him to realize that Yeon-joo’s by his side through thick and thin, but all of these variables are making my head hurt. All I want is Chul and Yeon-joo’s happy ending… and for poor Su-bong to recover from the trauma of being involved in all of this.

Cinderella and the Four Knights: I’m wondering what role Seo-woo will play in this whole family feud, because he’s been such a sweetheart so far, and I actually felt pretty bad for him when he got looped together with Ji-woon and Hyun-min during the suitcase fiasco, and Ha-won yelled at all three of them. Aside from that though, I do adore Ha-won’s spunk and I love that she can stand up for herself, at least when it comes to Hyun-min trying to make his moves on her. I don’t blame her for being flustered when Ji-woon gets close (I mean, come on, with a face like Jung Il-woo’s, that’s not even fair), but I can’t help wishing that she would give him a good kick in the shins (like she did to Hyun-min) when he tried to assert his dominance by coming up close to her.

Age of Youth: I feel like all I ever do is feel bad for Jin-myung… It was so heartbreaking to watch her go through that date. It’s like she can only get a twinge of happiness when she decides to give up and end everything. I’m also really curious what dark secret Eun-jae is hiding in regards to her biological father. Can’t she just let Jong-yeol in?

I can't believe there will be a day that I'll say this:

I actually enjoy watching r Ahn JaeHyun more than Jung Il woo in Cinderella and 4 Knights. Omg how is this even possible and the impossibility of it makes me want to continue watching the drama - at some point Jung ll woo will step up and sizzle the screen with his smexiness yes? ( yes drama? - no?) - I'm still in disbelief with myself

I feel the same thing.
perhaps it's because of Jung Il Woo's hair. It's sort of a putoff for me since it reminds me of Disney's Gyro's hairstyle.

I never realized how smexy AHJ's eyes aee, until I watch Cinderella. Before, it looks either sleepy or angry. That's it. But now? Geez. He really has stepped up his acting, I think. That must be it.

I really dislike watching a show when it still airs - only Seo In Guk and Park Bo Gum can break my resolve.

After Squad 38 I thought I learned my lesson to just marathon the show when it ends so I won't be on edge every week, but then comes Min Drawn by Moonlight.

I thought for such a light show, it won't make me have withdrawals. But nope, I forgot how mesmerized these boys can be on screen. Now I just cannot wait for every Monday!

I feel like they have a secret agreement to hold they grip over us.
Still, it is not as bad (yet) with Min drawn by moonlight. PU38 agony was wayyyyy worse, cause it was so manipulative and got you right in your gullible core.

Not to mention, Shopping King Louie will be airing after W so it's like a sandwich of the IRY bromance. SIG - PBG - SIG. They are such teases, I need to see them together again dammit.

also, just imagine if a real Min was inserted in the high and mighty court environment of sageuks... the evil conspiring ministers would just disappear. The queen dowager who sends kids to exile would get purple flowers... ahahahh modern serial killer in the midst of history. I really want to see it.

Lol I LOVE Boomboompow's title 'Min drawn by Moonlight' and redfox's idea of Min time-travelling to Moonlight setting (well, he can time travel to any sageuk setting for that matter). Someone better writes a fanfic based on this, please!
And I think this should be featured in Beans of Wisdom too! It's time for a drama centring on a villain as the main protagonist, and throw historical setting and suspense and mystery into the mix. It would be indeed yummy.
And while we're at that can we have SIG sent to the past by the Signal squad to scam the wealth out of those corrupted officials while he's on the chase for Min too?

cause why not get rich while catching a killer? Perhaps a bounty hunter?

or maybe it is not real history but the sageuk universe where getting rid of an important character literally leaves a blank space like a cut-out. and the saguk characters are worried and call the mastermind for help, but he is only interested in making profit and really good at smooth talk... in the end there is a third hero played by Ma Dong Seok, who catches them both and traps them in a saguk nobody ever watched...as eunuchs.

I'm gonna miss the Yeonsang couple and kids in Five Kids. The main couple were great too!

I really like the tone and have discovered how wonderful Kim Hee Ae is in Second to Last Love. It's been a while since I've watched Ji Jin Hee in anything and Kwak Si Yang is a plus! Adore Kim Seul Gi too and so far this show has been pushing all the right buttons for me.

Age of Youth is a treasure. I've already come to terms that this awesome show will only be 12 episodes but it really is one of the best roommates-centric dramas I've seen in a while. Will miss these girls! Especially Eun Jae and her sunbae! *wink*

Doctors : What did I just watch? I don't know. This show is like CITT for me all over again. Started out very promising but left me on the bitter end. The romance was indeed very cute but somehow I felt so disconnected to the couple.

Jealousy Incarnate : I never really warmed up to Jo Jung Seok... it seem like he is playing himself in every drama I Watched him on. I find Gong Hyo Jin endearing so I"m staying for her.

Cinderella : I don't hate the drama. I kinda look forward it despite the silly moments. Why do I have to like the secretary the most? his screen time isn't as much as I would have like. boohoo.

Age of Youth : Watch it. Don't need to ask. Please watch this drama people. SEASON 2 please!

Been away on holiday for a couple of weeks, am so behind on my drama watchlist. Need to catch up stat!

Watching PU38 (Ep 9) and Bring it on Ghost (Ep 8) - both still so good!

The Good Wife - Ep 12. I guess now that Tae Joon's out of prison he's going all the way with being an evil bastard. But am still waxing poetic about Yoo Ji Tae's performance. And there's something about his love and neediness for Hye Kyung that gives me the feels.

Will start AoY only because of beanies' recommendation and of course Moonlight because of Bogummy! Still not sure whether I'll start W even after seeing the reviews. Will think about it when it's ended cos LJS just doesn't do it for me. Will also start Jealousy because of Chef. Nuff said.

Oh, and I am so excited about Infinity Challenge's upcoming Muhan Company special! GD will be in it and then Lee Je Hoon and Kim Hye Soo! Signal feels! I saw the bts and I can't wait! ^^

Laurel Tree tailor: how do I stand still when we have Lee Dong Gun, Cha In Pyo, Ra Mi Ran, Choi woo young all in one drama. Just how?

I'm watching:

Doctors - Only 1 episode left! The 2nd half of this drama isn't nearly as good as the 1st half.

W - I actually might drop this drama. I skipped this week's episode. I'll read the recaps and see if it's worth my time. I liked the first 2 weeks of W but now it's just meh. Not really liking how the storyline is going.

Cinderella - I LOVE THIS. It's cute and funny. Very predictable but I can't help to love it haha.

Moonlight - Very much enjoying this as well. Makes me laugh a lot. The 2 main actors are just great together. The story is light and funny now, but I can see it going really dark and deep in the future.

I'm really looking forward to watching Scarlet Heart next week. Also, contemplating whether or not to watch Jealousy Incarnate. Opinions seem extremely mixed. I usually like Gong Hyojin's dramas, but lately I've not enjoyed most of them.

The Good Wife - Great cast, like this version than the original and because of this I have became a fan of Yoon Kye Sang.

Moonlight- love the story, the cast...hope that the funny moments won't end...KYJ & PBG really nailed this and the chemistry of the cast is awesome.

Cinderella - the story and directing sucks but I love the cast and rooting for Park So Dam and Ahn Jae Yun character. Naeun hasn't improved in the acting department, I just have to add this, she was bad in Twenty Again, too.

W- trying hard to finish every episode, I don't know why it bores me sometimes

CINDERELLA

I completely agree with cinderella music is just too much.
it is fine if it takes more graceful approach. It's too much if it is used every other five minutes. Hehe.

I still watch cinderella though. Took off my earphone everytime the theme song appears. It's nearly perfection.

The step sister is pure evil. My blood pressure rises everytime I saw her on screen. Can we remove her somehow?

MOONLIGHT

Parkkkk Bo Guuuuummmmmm!!!! Need I say more? It's still a mystery for me how someone so handsome can be so hilarious, and still look handsome. I was about to drop it though, but then the last scene came along. The story is refreshing. Will keep watching.

W

Really, who doesnt watch it? The writer is a genious, he keeps us on our toes every other episode. Just when we think we have it all figured out, he changed the game...again. super addicting. A great bonus is the number of kisses, which, btw, becoming more and more convincingly sincere. I love it to bits. I really feel sorry for Yeon Joo's dad. Without a face, without a soul. Such a great joy that he has daughter like OYJ. I felt so excited when she locked her dad (for his own sake, actually) and drew all those meds like crazy. I almost sreamed in front of my laptop "YEASSSSSS!!!!!!" My other regret is that KC seem to treat romantic things he did for OYJ like homework, because he still lost his memory. But then again...we can always create new memories, right? So excited to watch W next week!

WOW lollypip
I was just marathoning good morning call yesterday and you posted about it. it feels good to see a non kdrama popup here occasionally.
P.S. I am still in the loved up phase in ep 10 but I don't understand how they will drag the story for 7 more episodes. I am getting a bit scared that it will all go downhill from here

Hi Beanies, new to the site and have been watching K dramas for a little over a year, so be gentle.

W -- love HHJ, but not a fan of LJS. I keep imagining other actors in his place and how much more I would be enjoying the drama if someone else were the lead actor. But I am enjoying the story.

Cinderella -- HUGE fan of PSD, such a natural actor. I appear to be pretty much alone but I hope she ends up with JIW, though AJH is doing a very good job after the disaster that was Blood.

Moonlight -- what can I say. . . I will watch PBG anywhere, at anytime, in anything.

Ghost -- Taecyeon and KSH very good together, but I really, really, REALLY like Lee David and Kang Ki Young. The two of them together remind in some ways of Abbott and Costello. Great comedic timing and chemistry.

Coming up -- love Kang Ha Neul and Lee Jun Ki, but not sure I can watch Scarlet Heart if it is going to break my heart. I have seen some posts indicating the book does not end happily. Without giving anything away, should I watch or will I be left in a deep pit of despair at the end? IU was great in Producers, so I hope she pulls this off.

Thanks for reading -- I enjoy all your posts!!

Cinderella - I don't like Hyun Min or Ji Woon. Too bad the secretary doesn't have much of a presence and the singer guy is just not swoonworthy enough for me. I like Ha Won though. And god, as if the 2nd female lead wasn't annoying enough, there's also the stepmom and stepsis...

Moonlight - Kim Yoo Jung is too pretty, I find it hard to pass her as a guy but her acting is very stellar for her age. Some actresses need to take notes. And I'm having severe second lead syndrome....... Jinyoung is just so... I love how his lips curl at the end when he smiles. He's so pretty.

W - Everything's good except for Han Hyo Joo. Now I'm slowly remembering why I stopped watching her works after Dong Yi. Her acting is just ridiculously bad.. Her looks are similar to Han Ji Hye's but she lacks her natural and fluid acting.

The Good Wife - 6 words: Yoo Ji Tae & Yoon Kye Sang. So glad to see Yoo Ji Tae doing more dramas nowadays, I was crushing on him hard in Healer.

Our Gab Soon - Mediocre. No wonder it got low ratings. Nothing memorable about the story and characters. And both female and male leads need to take more acting classes. Their acting is so average and bland.

BIOG is the only one left after PU38 and AoY had finished their runs.

AoY is probably the only K-drama where I felt could have really used an extension to 14 or 16 eps.

Felt that there was a good bit more to uncover about the girls, in addition to more of the delicious bonding moments.

But at the same time, I agree w/ how certain things should have been left "up in the air" and unresolved.

Now will have to time to watch "Signal" and "Bad Guys" (also written by the PU38 writer) - as well as checking out some of the other works by Park Yeon-seon, the writer for AoY.

I will be honest, I have never liked a girl character more than the Park Shin Hye's character in Doctors. And unlike Girl Friday, my love for her went up in later episodes. I really dislike her in the 1st episode. And I my love for her went up as I watched later episodes.

YES! Cinderella and Four Knights totally reminds me of You're Beautiful, which is my fav kdrama and also the one that got me hooked onto kdramas for good! And I feel bad for Seo Woo too, poor boy.

I started the show thinking AJH was the lead, abit sad that he isn't and still hoping PSD will eventually end up with him! I don't get the hype over JIW..

C4K: Love it. JIW is my bias. I am usually so far behind watching anything that I always do a marathon. This time, darnit, I am even with the series and have to wait (wait?!) for next week.
I am waiting for the Big Reveal in like episode 15 or so that she is the half-sister of one of them. You know it is going to happen. This is not a spoiler, just my speculation from watching too much Kdrama. and the mental wheel is spinning and this week lands on JIW character for half-siblingdom. AHJ is out because you can't kiss your half-sister even if you don't know it is her. And the busker doesn't have enough screen time.
Also, why is the chairman suddenly acting all responsible - he with the five wives and a mistress - isn't he the cause for all this family mess? Sometime in like episode 16 he will reveal that he has had a terminal disease all along - my prediction.

LOL 100% agree with girlfriday's opinion on Seo Hyun-jin's cameo. I saw her and I was like "Oh Hae Young! what are you doing here-" and then she was gone. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. What a waste!
