Shin Mina, Lee Je-hoon practice their bickering skills for Tomorrow With You
by girlfriday
I still have no idea what Lee Je-hoon (Signal) in a rom-com is going to look like, but I sure can’t wait to find out. For his next project, he’ll be married to Shin Mina (Oh My Venus) for their new time-travel romance Tomorrow With You, headed to tvN this winter. The cast and crew gathered for their first script read in preparation for shoots beginning in September.
The lighthearted fantasy romance is the next project by PD Yoo Je-won, of tvN comedies Oh My Ghostess and High School King of Savvy, and writer Heo Sung-hye of Full Sun and All About My Wife. It’s about a time-traveler and his spirited wife, and their “sweet, bickering romance” as they get to know each other and fall in love after they’re already married.
Lee Je-hoon stars as a man with the ability to travel in time, via subway of all things, and he uses that gift to become a real estate mogul with a Midas touch. On one of his trips to the future he sees himself living unhappily, and so to prevent that future from coming true, he marries Shin Mina’s character even though he doesn’t love her.
She plays an unsuccessful photographer who feels that she peaked at age five, because she debuted as a child actress and her life has been on a downward slope ever since. She marries the enigmatic businessman not knowing that much about him, and over the course of the drama, the husband will start to worry about his wife and care for her in little ways, until he falls in love with her despite his selfish reasons for their marriage.
The supporting cast includes Kim Ye-won (Jealousy Incarnate) as Shin Mina’s competitive frenemy and Park Joo-hee (The Good Wife) as Lee Je-hoon’s friend, and also features regulars from the PD’s past dramas: Oh Gwang-rok (Healer, High School King of Savvy’s dad) as Park Joo-hee’s father, Lee Jung-eun (Oh My Ghostess’s ajumma shaman) as Shin Mina’s mom, and Jo Han-chul (High School King of Savvy’s Manager Kim) in an unspecified role. Perfect, all you need now is Kang Ki-young (and maybe Lee David as a package deal?) and we’re all set!
The series will be entirely pre-produced, and is scheduled to follow Friday-Saturday drama Goblin early next year.

I prefer the explanation given by the amazing Cheon Song Yi in MLFAS - that hardworking candys are always poor (despite having two or more jobs) because they're always spending it on the newest clothes, jewellery and the like.

It'll be actually very interesting if they could time-travel everytime they down a Subway!
Subway PPL done right, no?
And what the heck is Lee Je Hoon's hairstyle? I prefer his Signal's hair thank you very much.

IU time-travelled via water, so do Kim Seul Gi. Lee Jin Wook time-travelled via incense sticks. It's about time someone eats something and transported to the past (or future).

Maybe every Subway will take him to another point in the dramaverse where there's another Subway, thus drama-hopping via the ubiquitous Subway PPL! One bite and he can leave Signal and join DOTS. Another bite and he'll be in Doctors. He can take another bite to hop on over to Come Back Ajusshi...come on guys, help me out here!

Another bite lands him in the middle of politicians' wife meeting in Prime Minister and I. He's so confused so he takes another bite and is in the middle of surgery in Good Doctor. Feeling awkward he takes a bite and lands in Subway store in Heard It Through The Grapevine.

Can Seo In Guk do a cameo? He could be a high-schooler in one timeline then be an executive when Lee Ji-hoon skips ahead (or comes back to the present). They could joke about how he hasn't changed at all and that he better not steal this noona from him, and it would be glorious.

Not sure about the writer (never watched any of her stuff), but I have to admit the premise has made me super curious.
Getting married to someone just to make sure you don't end up sad and alone is already an interesting and compelling trigger to set up a romance, but I wonder why LJH's character chose SM's character, of all people?
Is there something special about her that caused him to feel a spark of interest or a possible connection? Did he see something about her in the future that made him think the marriage could be advantageous? Or was she just a completely random choice, someone who was just at the right place at the right time and willing to get hitched?
Speaking of, that leads me to what I'm most curious about: why in the world would SM's chara agree to marry someone she barely knows? Granted, LJH's chara is doing the same thing, but I'm giving him a pass on his odd 'marry stranger to prevent unhappiness' reasoning since he's a time-traveller and therefore, I'm presuming, eccentric by default.
But what is SM's character motivated by? I'd presumed till now it was a contract marriage of some sort, but the summary seems to indicate she went into the marriage willingly, without being forced/pressured by some financial debt or other makjang drama reason.
Did she fall in love with LJH's character despite not knowing much about him? Did she marry him for pure pragmatic reasons, because he's rich and could provide her with a more comfortable lifestyle? Did she just receive his marriage proposal, shrug and think 'YOLO'? There are many possibilities that could lead to so many fun characters.
All these questions are really making me anticipate hearing the answers. Here's hoping it's not for nought!

There is no way that that razor sharp nose of Lee JH's isn't the product of a plastic surgery, right? And yet, I remember seeing him in an interview or was it a variety show where he crunched up his nose and pushed it way up to show that it's natural. LOL.

Manager Kim!! Love this PD and the supporting characters coming in...plus Shin Mina (Who doesn't?). I was curious about this premise before but am totally looking forward to this now. it seems like this should start off melancholy and move towards a more positive tone from what's been laid out to date. Very curious to see how they use this time travel premise to not be a plaintive end game.

The only thing really missing from Shin Mina's resume is a critically-acclaimed TV drama that is also a hit.
While SMA's role as Mi-ho in MGIAG was iconic, it was a very uneven romcom, "Arang" was totally underwhelming (the villains were beyond boring and "big secret" wasn't much of a secret) and OMV was basically fluff.
Heck, if it weren't for the adorableness of a meat loving gumiho, might say that "Punch" (2003) w/ Joo Jin-mo is my fave SMA drama (a pretty standard drama, but SMA and JJM had chemistry and get to see SMA when she was still a relative "newbie").

This is a totally innocent question so, do not attack me fans of these actors.
I have watched 100s of Korean dramas and have followed Korean hit movies.
I do not understand the hype behind both of these actors. They are both very very ordinary actors. She is pretty but so are so many actresses are these days.
Oh my Venus was kind a boring.
Signal was great but definitely not because of this actor. It had other things and some terrific acting by others going for it.
So, why so much noise?
...
Oh - I like the premise of the drama. I love time travel stuff and will watch it only for that. But neither of these actors create excitement for me. So, made me curious what I may be missing.

I can understand your question about Shin MinHa. I love her but not really for her acting. She's good but she's not great (but I still prefer her to Ha Ji Won and Kim Ha Neul). I think people love her because she's just so cute and nice, she shines in every thing she does. She leaves a warm and cute feeling in people's heart lol.
As for Lee Je Hoon, he's just an excellent actor. Nothing else. I'd recommend you to watch all his movies. The guy can play anything and with such an intensity it's impressive. I can understand you don't love him but to not see his talent is unfortunate. But well, we can't all have the same tastes.

I'm really curious about what the tone for this is gonna be like. I know it's being advertised as a rom com, but time travel, combined with the martial aspect (I'm so excited to have a couple start out already married btw, even if it's not "real" per se) sounds like it would lead more melo-ish.
