Love may be in the air in first teaser for On the Way to the Airport

The first still and teaser have been released for KBS’s upcoming fall drama On the Way to the Airport starring Lee Sang-yoon (Twenty Again) and Kim Haneul (A Gentlemen’s Dignity).

On the Way to the Airport explores the lives of men and women experiencing their second adolescence through which they’re able to exhibit sympathy, comfort, and the finality of love. It aims to be a sensitive melodrama with a delicate yet rich sensibility, led by a capable cast that includes Shin Sung-rok (King’s Face) and Jang Hee-jin (Mirror of the Witch).

Kim Haneul plays the female lead named Choi Soo-ah, a 12-year veteran flight attendant and mother of a daughter in grade school. The first still depicts Kim Haneul in character, descending an airport escalator in her red and white uniform.

The 30-second teaser promptly sets the backdrop with a wide shot of a bridge, followed by a quick cut to airport personnel walking towards an airplane. We then see Lee Sang-yoon, a solitary figure standing on a moving sidewalk at Incheon Airport, appearing rather travel-worn and lost in thought.

After a brief shot of a cabin crew in transit, Kim Haneul appears. She’s standing on an escalator in her uniform, her eyes on Lee Sang-yoon as she nears him. As Lee Sang-yoon watches her descending from his bench, their cautiously optimistic thoughts are intercut:

Her: “Heart-pounding…”
Him: “Anticipation?”
Her: “Distant…”
Him: “Fateful meeting?”

The interspersed copy reads: “Fall 2016… meet the best emotion that melodrama allows.” The teaser and still offered a tiny taste of what’s to come, but I like the light-handed direction and the visual image of a budding relationship inside a cavernous and beautifully desolate airport.

Directed by Kim Cheol-kyu (My Beautiful Bride) and written by Lee Sook-yeon (One Fine Spring Day), On the Way to the Airport is a Wednesday-Thursday drama that will premiere on September 21 after Uncontrollably Fond ends.

The teaser seems beautiful. Just on the premise alone, it doesn't sound like the usual dramas I go for, but I'm intrigued by the visual direction presented in the teaser and the airport slant is also a fresh hook.

It's melodrama. Let's see if it becomes the Melo of 2016 or not.

I thought its PPL already in the form of the constant red stewardess uniform?

You mean, more PPL? The horror.

Maybe they can serve Subway onboard.

How did I not realize Lee Sang Yoon and Shin Sung Rok were going to be in another drama together?

It's a short clip, but I really like the visuals so far. The direction makes the environment look ordinary, yet beautiful at the same time.

To be honest the drama premise doesn't really sound like my kind of thing, but may end up watching it anyway because Lee Sang Yoon does terrible things to my impulse control...

The part that gets me worried is the whole "second adolescence" thing, which sounds like adults acting stupid for cheap laughs. At 50+ years of age I've seen a few cases of 'second adolescence' (which is blissfully rare, by the way) and it isn't funny, it's tragic. If, on the other hand, 'second adolescence' means that this couple has suddenly forgotten everything they ever learned or experienced about dating, sex, and understanding/living with members of the opposite sex, I will just be annoyed because that's so completely unrealistic. Some things you just don't 'unlearn.'
I also hope Kim Haneul isn't doing a reprise of her A Gentleman's Dignity role, where she played a 30-year-old who had the maturity, grace, and sexual awareness of a 12-year-old. Yeah, that was a laugh riot. Not.

I have to agree. Its sad that Korean dramas seem to be echoing Western shows and movies which glorify youth and adolescence. Its as if only during those times can anyone have fun or romance. After you hit 30, its all apparently downhill.

Youth is nice, but its overrated. Anyone who has or wants a second adolescence - yikes, steer clear of that person.

Beautiful summary of all the ways this genre tends to get on my nerves too. Almost always why this kind of stuff feels like a kind of cop out too. Like...you couldn't write a nice romance between adults without injecting them with teenage emotions and maturity-levels? Okay.

Life does *not* end or become miserable after 35, much as kdrama loves to portray otherwise. If anything, life becomes a lot more fun as you get more stable in terms of self-confidence, job, get to travel, explore etc.

Maybe there is no handsome guy sitting around pining for you for the last 25 years, but isnt that what kdrama for -- to itch that scratch? ;-)

Me too. Somehow, Lee Sang Yoon was so charismatic in Liar's Game, that all of his other drama's have seemed enemic. I keep waiting for the same LSY fix.

That is an AirAsia uniform. So it is true Airasia is a sponsor too?Yes,we made it,a Well known Malaysia brand.

Means she is a medium haul flight attendant,as Airasia only flies currently in Asia and Australia.

Actually,I noticed an Airasia plane in episode 1 of Jealousy Incarnate.

I noticed it too in Jealously Incarnate!

when I saw the picture..it didn't trigger me that it's airsia uniform because unless no choice at all, I don't use Airasia.

Watching the Teaser, this must be a good romantic drama to watch for with Lee Sang-yoon as the male lead. He is a good actor we're following through!

My first impression watching LSY in the teaser was like rewatching the airport scene in Angel Eyes. His hair style didn't help as it was too similar to "Park Dong Joo".

When Angel Eyes came out it used to play in many of the video shops. Not my cup of tea so never watched it but the leads were so at ease with the genre. And so pretty. Judging by this teaser LSY's dramas seem to have that pull.

That's definitely Airasia uniform. Know it too well. :) But I don't know how Putrajaya and KLIA will fit in the story.

Missed seeing LSY's hair combed up again - the variation where his "styled upwards" hairstyle in 20A's last episode was something to swoon over :)
