Bring It On, Ghost: Episode 10

There are never any guarantees in life or death, as Bong-pal and Hyun-ji are beginning to learn. What’s important is honesty, and as cute as they are together, there are still a lot of secrets between them. But maybe some secrets are best kept that way, especially when a long-hidden evil is creeping ever closer and there are more important, and deadlier, things to worry about.

EPISODE 10 RECAP

When Hyun-ji tries to walk away, scared that their relationship can never be real, Bong-pal follows her and stops her. “I like you. I don’t care what others think, you’re the one I like,” he says. And there in front of everyone, he kisses her.

At his clinic, Hye-sung looks up to see monk Myung-chul staring at him, and the monk steps inside to ask if he knows Bong-pal. He smiles when Hye-sung confirms it, saying that he’s like a father to Bong-pal, and he notes that Hye-sung looks familiar. Hye-sung admits to having seen Myung-chul at Bong-pal’s apartment, but Myung-chul says it was a long time ago.

Hye-sung’s expression chills a bit, but he keeps up the charade and says he doesn’t know Myung-chul. Still smiling, the monk reaches a hand out to shake, and seems to sense something in Hye-sung’s touch. He turns to go and Hye-sung says he’ll see him again, which definitely sounds like a threat.

After their kiss, Bong-pal had told Hyun-ji not to worry about anything, and she has shyly agreed. They walk home hand-in-hand, happy, but Myung-chul isn’t there. The video of Bong-pal’s middle school graduation is still on the television, and Hyun-ji sees Hye-sung’s face for just a moment before Bong-pal turns it off.

Hyun-ji asks if Bong-pal’s father shot all the videos in his spare room, and Bong-pal says he did, though he hasn’t watched all of them. She asks why he doesn’t live with his father, but Bong-pal gives a vague “just because” and goes to shower.

Myung-chul is drinking alone at the pojangmacha, remembering Hye-sung’s handshake and his blank expression. He’s sure there’s something that Hye-sung is hiding.

Bong-pal joins Hyun-ji later where she’s watching a drama, and the kiss scene makes them both twitchy. Bong-pal can’t stop looking at Hyun-ji’s lips, hee. He turns off the show and she rushes to bed, clutching her pounding heart. Cute.

On the school campus, a student walks the halls and finds some lights burnt out. Using his phone as a flashlight, he finds the box of stuff he was looking for, but he hears someone muttering behind the boxes. He jumps and runs when the mutterer turns and grins at him with a bloody mouth.

He goes straight to Chun-sang and In-rang to tell them about the ghost he saw. They offer in their hilariously overblown way to help him, so long as he can pay, of course.

They show Bong-pal and Hyun-ji where he spotted the ghost, which has apparently shown itself all over campus and is known to be particularly gruesome. Neither Bong-pal nor Hyun-ji see anything, then Bong-pal steps on something and a shrieking noise has them all running to investigate.

On another floor the ghost has shown itself to some students, but strangely, Chun-sang and In-rang see it clearly and flee the room. Bong-pal and Hyun-ji aren’t scared, mostly because it turns out to be a fellow student, who Chun-sang and In-rang tackle in the hallway.

He’s been living on campus for quite a while, unable to find a job. He’s been reduced to selling “healing stones” for a pyramid scheme, and the whole thing has made him a bit cuckoo. HAHA, Chun-sang has fallen for it, he’s accepted a stone mattress for their payment.

Detectives Yang and Kim go to inspect the body of Min-soo, the student who know Hyun-joo, that Hye-sung recently killed. Due to a fake confession, it looks as though he killed Hyun-joo, then himself, but Detective Yang thinks the whole thing seems fishy. He decides to go see Hye-sung’s mother to check out his alibi for the night of Hyun-joo’s murder.

The possessed man, Hyun-min, is awake and screaming again. His sister calls Bong-pal, scared because she’s at home alone with him, and the noises he’s making are downright tortured. She goes to his room to find it destroyed, but Hyun-min is sitting on the bed perfectly calm, with blood running down his face.

He pushes her to the floor and looms over her menacingly, but he’s distracted by a noise and leaves the room. His sister hears the noise too, and looks over her shoulder to see the ghost of Hyun-min’s girlfriend, looking down at her with blood streaming from her eyes.

Chun-sang catches In-rang writing a love note to Hyun-ji, and in the scuffle for possession of the note Chun-sang gets popped in the eye. He pretends to go blind and smacks In-rang a few times, until In-rang pretends to hit him again and makes him flinch. Busted.

Hye-sung cancels class, so Seo-yeon texts him to ask if he’s all right. Hyun-ji sees it as an opportunity to play, but a call from Chun-sang has them headed to Hyun-min’s home instead.

Detectives Yang and Kim find Hye-sung’s mother, who seems edgy and nervous. When they ask if her son has visited lately she becomes very vague, and she freezes when she sees something out the window.

It’s Hye-sung, standing right in the yard, and the cops cut their visit short, refusing to tell Hye-sung why they’re here. As they leave he shoots his mother an angry look, and she seems genuinely scared of him.

By the time Bong-pal and the club arrive at Hyun-min’s house, he’s gone. His sister tells them that she saw his dead girlfriend, Soo-kyung, and she’s afraid that she may try to hurt her brother.

She doesn’t know where her brother is, so Bong-pal asks if she knows of any places that Soo-kyung may have frequented. She shows them a picture of the two lovers by a river, and says they may have gone there. It’s the same place where Hyun-min scattered Soo-kyung’s ashes.

Sure enough, we see that Hyun-min is there, looking pale and dazed and still oozing blood from a head wound. He staggers out onto the bridge, and the ghost-hunting crew hurry to catch him before he does something drastic. They can see him but the van breaks down, so Bong-pal jumps out and runs the rest of the way.

Hyun-ji poofs closer and yanks Soo-kyung’s ghost away from Hyun-min, who is hanging onto the outside of the railing, about to let go. Hyun-ji asks why Soo-kyung is trying to kill Hyun-min, but she says desperately that she’s not trying to kill him — she’s trying to save him.

Still in a trance, Hyun-min says softly, “Soo-kyung-ah, I’ll follow you,” and lets go of the railing. Soo-kyung screams as he hits the water, and Bong-pal rips off his jacket and jumps in to save the man.

On the riverbank Soo-kyung appears to Hyun-min, and kneels down to talk to him. She looks almost human now, and she soothes his cut forehead and begs him, “Hyun-min-sshi, don’t do this.” He looks up at her, stricken.

In flashback we see that he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and was given three months to live. He gets drunk and staggers through the streets, where Soo-kyung sees him and pushes him out of the road. She asks angrily if he’d given up on life, and he says that he has.

Soo-kyung doesn’t allow him to wallow in his depression, fussing at him to enjoy every day he has, and Hyun-min is instantly smitten. He finds her at the convenience store where she works, and buys her a coffee when she falls asleep on the counter. The two start dating, and quickly fall in love.

Hyun-min tells Soo-kyung that he’s going away for a few days, but the truth is that he’s going in for surgery on his brain tumor. He begs the doctor to save his life, now that he has something to live for.

He calls Soo-kyung and leaves her a message, apologizing and explaining that he may not be able to return to her. As she listens to his message she runs out into the street, too scared to notice the car barreling down on her. While Hyun-min’s life is saved by his surgery, Soo-kyung lies in the street bleeding from a head wound.

He tries to call her, and an EMT answers the phone as they’re loading Soo-kyung into an ambulance. He’s given the news that she died, and he screams with grief.

Now he apologizes to her spirit, feeling responsible for her death. Soo-kyung tells him it’s not his fault and begs him not to kill himself, but he cries that he only had the surgery so that he could be with her. He wants to follow her, wherever she is.

But Soo-kyung says that she’ll be even sadder if he dies just to be with her. She was so happy to be with him, and she wants to take those happy memories with her. She begs him to promise he’ll never hurt himself, and he nods, unable to deny her last wish. Hyun-min whispers that he loves her, and Soo-kyung sobs that she loves him too, then she drifts away in a cloud of light.

The boys drive Bong-pal and Hyun-ji home, but before he goes inside In-rang asks him to pass along his love note to Hyun-ji. Knowing that In-rang likes Hyun-ji, bong-pal haltingly tells him that Hyun-ji already likes someone. Jaws drop (even Hyun-ji’s, heh), and In-rang is devastated. Awww, Chun-sang gives him big smooshy hugs.

Bong-pal is quiet up on the roof, and he asks Hyun-ji if someday, they’ll end up like Soo-kyung and Hyun-min. Hyun-ji thinks they will, but it’s no big deal, because they’re happy now. She says they shouldn’t worry about the future, reminding Bong-pal that he said that to her, and he smiles.

Chun-sang pours the moping In-rang some soju (by the Han River, naturally), and can’t resist saying “I told you so.” In-rang agrees that he should never have started liking Hyun-ji, and he cries at the letter he wrote. He tears it up and throws it into the river, dramatically screaming, “I loved you, Kim Hyun-ji!!” He even tries to jump into the river, and Chun-sang has to slap him to calm him down. Awww, poor heartbroken puppy.

Myung-chul goes to his shaman friend and tells her about Hye-sung, and how his whole body shivered when he shook his hand. She agrees he’s not normal, but she refuses to help Myung-chul, not after seeing how he got damaged last time. But she does agree to help him find the ritual tool that he used when Bong-pal was young. In the meantime, he asks for a talisman for Bong-pal.

Hye-sung watches his mother in her garden, and goes out to tell her that he’s heading back to Seoul. He shows genuine concern when he sees a scratch on her hand, though she flinches away and says it’s nothing. Her rebuff actually seems to hurt his feelings, and he leaves looking upset.

A neighbor comes over to sigh over how handsome her son is, but Hye-sung’s mother looks despondent as she says, “He’s not my son.” She recalls a time years ago, when her face had been bruised and bloody, and her husband had lain in the grass far below their apartment, dead from a fall. She’d seen a young Hye-sung standing by the open door, black mist swirling around him and that same flat expression in his eyes.

Bong-pal finds Hyun-ji studying for her next exam, and she even puts off food so that she can finish studying. Bong-pal spills her photos from the team vacation and Hyun-ji tries to hide them, but he says he’s already seen them. He takes them and looks at them again, commenting on the enhancements Hyun-ji made. ~cringe~

He teases Hyun-ji mercilessly, and she pouts that she had to draw herself into a picture with him because she can’t take a real one. Bong-pal says he doesn’t like taking pictures anyway, and takes Hyun-ji’s face in his hands, saying he prefers to see her in person. She would swoon, except that he calls her ugly, and they end up in a slap-fight. So cute.

Myung-chul hears Bong-pal laughing from outside his apartment, and thinks that he hasn’t heard that laugh in a long time. He steps inside and witnesses the last part of Bong-pal and Hyun-ji’s teasing, though to him it looks like Bong-pal is talking to himself. He guesses that Bong-pal is talking to the girl ghost he met a while back, and all the clues click into place… they’ve been living together.

Myung-chul is furious that Bong-pal is in a relationship with a ghost, when a ghost killed his own mother. He offers to get Bong-pal’s eyes fixed now, saying that he’ll figure out a way so that he can quit being an exorcist. But Bong-pal says he can take care of himself, that he doesn’t want his eyes treated anymore.

Myung-chul spits angrily that Bong-pal must really like this ghost, and Bong-pal looks over to where Hyun-ji is looking worried and a little scared. He takes her hand and says that he does, and tells Myung-chul to mind his own business. Myung-chul says that fine, he won’t meddle in his life anymore, and he leaves.

As soon as he’s gone, Hyun-ji asks if a ghost really did kill Bong-pal’s mother, and if he’s raising money to get rid of his ghost-seeing ability. Bong-pal tells her to ignore everything Myung-chul said, but that just confirms her fears, and she tells him to go on to school without her today.

Myung-chul grumbles all the way down the street until he passes a bakery, and the cakes remind him that today is Bong-pal’s birthday. He brings a cake back to Bong-pal’s place, and lets himself in. He can feel Hyun-ji’s presence when he gets close to her, and says that he knows she’s here. He asks her to leave Bong-pal alone, for his sake.

He tells her that when Bong-pal was little, an evil spirit went into him, and it was all Myung-chul’s fault that he wasn’t strong enough to exorcise him. We see young Bong-pal fighting for breath in a temple with his parents hovering over him, and Myung-chul had performed ceremonies over the child to chase out the spirit.

At the culmination of the ceremony, a beaded bracelet on Bong-pal’s wrist had broken, and the black mist had swirled up and through Myung-chul. He’d failed to get rid of it completely, and in its anger it had killed Bong-pal’s mother.

Part of the spirit had remained in Bong-pal’s eyes, and left him able to see ghosts. Myung-chul asks Hyun-ji if she really thinks a human can love a ghost, and begs her again to leave him. Hyun-ji listens to every word he says, tears streaming down her face.

Meanwhile Bong-pal gets halfway to school before he turns and runs back home. He goes inside and finds Myung-chul’s cake, but Hyun-ji is nowhere to be seen. He finds her on the roof crying, though she pretends that everything is fine.

Bong-pal asks if she saw Myung-chul again, and Hyun-ji chirps that she did but she avoided him. She pouts at him for not telling her it’s his birthday, and he says he doesn’t usually remember it, so she offers to take him somewhere to celebrate.

They take a riverboat ride, and Bong-pal sweetly says that it’s not his first time on one, but he’s glad to be here with her. They go to the upper level to watch the fireworks, and Hyun-ji grows sad as she tells Bong-pal that she wants him to be happy. He says that he’s happy enough, and he’s even enjoying his birthday for the first time because he can be with her.

She apologizes that she can’t really do anything for him, and he says it’s all right. He pulls her close and kisses her forehead, and she asks him to get her something to drink. While he’s gone, she cries, and just as she sees him coming back for her, she slowly disappears.

Bong-pal goes looking all over the ship for Hyun-ji, but he can’t find her anywhere. She watches him from the shore as he grows increasingly frantic, and she just says she’s sorry before she changes back to her school uniform, and goes back to where she came from.

COMMENTS

Oof, I knew it was coming, and I knew it would be Hyun-ji who left Bong-pal. That didn’t make it any easier to watch, especially knowing how hard it was for Bong-pal to even open up to her in the first place. For the first time in his life he let someone in, and he lost her so quickly. He’s going to be bereft without her, and for the first time I’m not looking forward to the next episode. It’s going to be hard to watch.

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again: What the HELL is going on with Hye-sung?? I swear this is one of the best mysterious characters I’ve ever seen in a drama billed as a rom-com, and he gives me the heebies every time he’s on my screen. I love that we’re getting some information on his past, but it’s like every tidbit we’re given just raises that many more questions. It’s obvious that he’s a cold-blooded killer, but his disappointment when his mother pushed him away was almost childlike in its vulnerability — whatever happened to him when he was young, he doesn’t seem to have matured much past that emotionally. And thinking back on it, his actions do feel like an angry child who’s lashing out, hurting whoever hurts him, whether it be human or animal. It’s so great that we can’t guess easily what’s going on with him, though the guessing is so much fun.

I thought that Hyun-min and Soo-kyung’s love story was such a lovely little vignette, and a beautiful reminder that you should appreciate and savor the love you have while you have it. There’s no guarantee that it will last, and it was such a bittersweet lesson that all the while Hyun-min was scared of dying, it was Soo-kyung who only had a little bit of time left. She was the one telling him to live life to the fullest while you can, and she did, every single moment. So while her death was a tragedy, and it’s understandable that Hyun-min would think that he caused her accident, it would be even worse for Hyun-min to try to follow her into death. The one thing she wanted for him was that he live and be happy, so much that even after her own life is over, she can’t move on until she knows that he will be all right without her.

It dovetails into Bong-pal and Hyun-ji’s budding romance so nicely — they may not be a conventional couple, but there’s no telling how much time they have together, so if they’ve found love they should treasure it while they can. But it makes sense that if they want to avoid pain and heartache, now is the time to bring things to a halt, before either of them is too far gone in love that their inevitable separation causes permanent damage. Being a ghost, Hyun-ji knows more than anyone that she could be gone at any moment, and her repeated fading incidents are frightening on multiple levels. So for as she knows, they could mean that her time on this world is coming to an end, and she wouldn’t want to hurt Bong-pal more than necessary when she leaves. Seeing Hyun-min torn to pieces and suicidal over the loss of his love hit hard, and Hyun-ji is a gentle and loving girl… she won’t want Bong-pal to suffer through that if she has to leave.

I don’t usually like the separation part of any drama (who does?) but in this case, I think it’s necessary for Bong-pal and Hyun-ji. Their relationship is way left of normal, and as adorable as they are together, it’ s not realistic for them to truly be together. They can never get married, have a family, or grow old together – hell, they can’t even go on a date without people thinking Bong-pal’s lost his marbles. They really have no future together, as much as they both may want it, and Myung-chul’s reaction drove that home hard for Hyun-ji. So it makes sense for the break to come from Hyun-ji, knowing what she knows now about Bong-pal’s past and why he can even see her in the first place. In her mind she’s leaving him as Myung-chul said, for his own good, and for once there’s no noble idiot here. Just a girl who loves a boy, who has a very good reason that they can’t be together, and who loves him enough to let him go.

ah so if Bong Pal´s remaining dark spirit gets exorcised, he won´t be able to see Hyun ji any more?

I think so. And that may be healthy for him in the long run.

While Hyun Ji is pretty hot, especially in that uniform, he has no real future with her. Plus the ghost sex would have to be unsatisfying.

I think it would be best if they acknowledge for a brief period of time they brought each other companionship and then parted ways.

i haven't finished this episode yet so sorry if its sort of unrelated to the episode but why can’t bong pal find out about hyun ji and her identity for her? instead of waiting for her memories to come back

Now that you mentioned it, I wonder why they didn't just Google her name or something, unless she was that invisible when she was still alive? It would've been fun to incorporate their attempts to search for her identity in every episode.

same i was thinking about this too for a while now but i guess they don't have a picture of her to ask people around and don't know what school she goes to. if i remember correctly hyun ji in the first episode did try looking for the school she went to. anyway they could maybe go to a hospital as well idk

I think why they never pursue to find out more abt hyun ji because she never disturb @ haunt them in similar manners like the other ghosts n because she already told bong pal she probably did not disappear yet because she has not sit for her SAT. Bong pal only exorcise evil ghost n there is one scene when he was dissuading Hyun ji a bit about studying hard, as if he did not want her to sit for the exam that soon..hehe..anyway..i think in the next episodes we will see in rang finding out more abt hyun ji n tell bong pal abt it..which lead him to find her not dead but in coma, probably..if i am not mistaken..

I wondered about that, too. There should be some sort of record of her accident in the news archive. They know her name, year she "died," and the details about the accident that she has remembered. Therefor, they should be able to do a search and find out her real identity. It feels like a plot hole that could be filled easily since the evil spirit could be the culprit by erasing the stories about her background. Maybe the writing is holding on to that as a plot device for later, but in today's internet savvy world it just seems implausible that they would not Google search her background.

And don't forget HJ used the internet to lure BP to the high school in the first place. If she has been a ghost for five years who can use the Internet, she should have discovered her identity already.

I wonder if it's because HJ never seems really keen on finding out what exactly happened to her, and so neither does BongPal. I felt the only exception was after the first kiss, but that was it.

Then the story just made HJ and BongPal focus on her passing the exam -- although I wonder how? Who would be giving her the test and grading it for her?

I do wish the Show teamed HJ and BongPal up to figure out what happened to her.

well maybe because he thinks that hyun-ji is already dead and as a dead person, there's no use to look for her body though. Bong-pal does'nt have any suspicion about her death because even hyun-ji does not know anything why and how she died. maybe for the next next episodes we can have a brief clues about hyun ji's disappearance. and maybe if he starts looking for hyun-ji he/we'll find out soon that hyun-ji is in coma (hoping)

I thought the same thing because as far we have seen Hyun Ji is the only ghost who lookes like a normal human being so i think there is a high chance that she has been in coma for the last 5 years

Oh this drama is so adorable and heartbreaking at the same time.
Agree 100% on this comment ....and for once there’s no noble idiot here....
Thanks Lollypip for the observation.

I love Bong Pal's character growth and really wishing Hyun Ji is just in a coma somewhere.

OK so the evil one DID leave something behind in BongPal.....

Thanks for the quick recap, LP! Appreciate this as I've yet to watch the episode (downloading only tonight).

Still not sure what exactly the evil one wants back from Park family..... if it is the "something" that allows BongPal to see ghosts/spirits now, what's so precious about it? I mean, the evil one already can see ghosts/spirits so there is no need to get this capability "back" from BongPal.

Agree with LP that the separation is necessary and its not HyunJi being a noble idiot. She still has work to do, finding out how she dies and who she is/was. Not sure where she went back to, but hopefully now she can find out who she is/was and how she died.

BongPalaaaaaah, the poor boy. He now no longer wants to get rid of his ghost-seeing power and it hurts to lose someone he loves again.

But be strong, ma big one! Go FIND her!! Go!!

I just thought of something.

What if the "something" left behind by the evil one was not JUST the power to see ghosts? What if there is actually more? And the evil one wants it back?

Just sayin'.......

Seems likely. And it also seems likely that the evil spirit went into Hye-Sun. So he wants his bit of spiritual essence back. Or maybe to shift into Bong Pal's body since it was his originally chosen host.

It was a surprise to me to find out that Bong Pal was possessed by an evil spirit and that it left a bit of it in him. Like Harry Potter and Voldemort. Lol. If someone exorcises Hye Sung, he may become normal too.

What if the thing that possesed Bong Pal is the same thing that now possess Hye Sung? Then the thing he is after would be what he left in Bong Pal. Maybe he's not as powerful without it.

She's an idiot for leaving the way she did though. That is when mature people sit down and have a conversation explaining why they believe a separation is necessary. The way she left was especially cruel. Not only was it in the middle of his birthday celebration date, which she knows he doesn't normally celebrate, there have been several fading incidents - Bong Pal deserves to know she left by choice and not to be freaked out worried about her very existence.

Thank you for the recap!

I really like this drama, and our main couple. KSH and Taecyeon are a good pairing. But this drama is also going the normal rom-com drama route with its mandatory separation plot. Why does the couple have to separate in every single drama? Hopefully Hyun Ji will come back fast. Whenever she was mad at Bong Pal, it didn't last long. So maybe this will also be like that. Bong Pal can cook some meat and get her back :)

I also want to know what happened to Hye Sung that he became like this. I wonder if his mom keeps him away because she suspects him of killing her husband or knows that there is a evil spirit in his body.

I also loved the cameo from Lee Soo Kyung.

The evil spirit that took over Bong Pal is definitely the evil sprit that took over Hye-Sung. Seem like after escaping Bong Pal body he needed another host and eventually found Hye Sung which explain the link between the tworld.

Plus when the monk first encounter Hye Sung, there was a flashback scene which explain it on here, it was a flashback of the monk doing the ritual to rid the spirit out of Bong Palm.

Now I'm curious as to how Hyun Ji is tie to all this. And let's not forget, Hye Sung is trying to find out the thing he went after Bong Pal dad for.

Is it possible that Hyun Ji and Hye Sung have a same age. They are classmate. I even suspect there is something going on between them, that made Hyun Ji means something for Hye Sung, that he keep all of her things in his room.
May be Hyun Ji also the first person who try to become his friend, just like she is to Bong Pal. His attitude toward Hyun Ji is strange.

Saddest. Episode. Ever.

Like I was bawling my eyes out the entire hour. Oh lord. The writers just went ahead and BAM! "Let's roll out all feels in this episode!" Haist! Damn. Episode 10 was just so emotional right from the get-go. My heartaches so bad right now, I feel like I just went through a breakup. Gaddammit. That's how this episode got through to me, straight to my bone marrow. Hot damn.

So our ghost of the week story is probably the best one we've had so far. It's a completely relatable storyline for our main characters and we've seen how it really got to them so much as it got to me/us viewers. That in its entirety could have been a whole new kdrama in itself. How they (writers) can push all the right buttons and leave us so scarred but at the same time satisfied with how they wrapped up that story. That's how you do it. Bravo.

Back to BP and HJ. I knew that too much happiness in one episode can result to the same level of sadness in another. How can this not be the saddest birthday for BP? He did say that he never gets to celebrate his birthday but now he's got a reason to and that reason happened to be HJ. But of course HJ doesn't see that and decides to disappear for BP's sake. She could've at least waited till they got home before deciding to leave. Her timing is just impeccable. That irritated me a bit.

I'm not hating on our monk for asking HJ to leave BP, like any parent would, they aim to seek the best for their children and I think he was just looking out for BP knowing all the stuff that happened in the past. I don't expect him to accept HJ with open arms as CS and IR did, after all, our monk did save BP but partially blames himself for not completely exorcising those evil spirits for good. The burden he carries is understandable but I hope he realizes that he can't fight this battle alone.

Oh poor IR. The kids first heartbreak was both touching and hilarious. Touching to see that he saw and felt love in a very different perspective. Hilarious to see how he handled the rejection. I mean we've been in IR's shoes and I find it hard not to laugh because I too, was just as silly and innocent in loving someone before.

Hye-sung is the best baby faced looking evil villain on tv. He's bad to the core but knowing that he's been possessed for so long makes me wonder how many people he's killed over the years? His own mother knows the truth and she's as scared as the dogs in his clinic.

Overall, this episode is one emotional roller coaster ride. It made me want to sit through more of it even if it was painful to watch. It was good heartfelt writing that stuck and that's what makes this show really great. It gives you an understanding that life and fate has its own meaning and direction. No matter how we try to map our lives out, something's are just meant to happen and we need to face it, no matter how difficult, sad, challenging it may seem.

Getting a bit cliched this time, with a Vehicle of Doom and attacks of Noble Idiocy (or Noble Realism, if you prefer).

It was cheating they way they had Hyun-ji disappear in a puff of white smoke when she was just teleporting. White smoke is only supposed to mean a good ghost going away for real -- or a new pope.

Still liking it though.

I do enjoy your cynical humor kekeke

The white smoke for HyunJi this time is probably for visual and metophoric purposes: to make her EXIT more beautiful and signaling the nearing-end of her ghost status.

Go watch the preview for episode 11, you'll see what I mean. (no spoliers)

wow ... there were all sorts of controversies about poor Taeceyon before the drama. i didnt even knew him then. but i think it has helped him some way, bcoz i am not sure whether i wud have watched this drama so eagerly if not for that. i caught up with all the episodes and also watched all available you tube videos of Taeceyon. i cant help but say he is really nice, open minded and likable. I dont know what everybody is saying about his "terrible acting". i hav seen even worse acting in kdramas. and also the otp hav super chemistry in the drama. Some comments were like he was going to take advantage of So hyun or something, Wth.

it was so nice to see him cooking in the drama after watching so many variety shows of him.

If Hyun Ji turns out to be alive and in a coma I wonder what route they'll take. Does she just wake up while Bong Pal will believe she dissapeared, or will Bong Pal find her body first and will have to help her return to her body ( having to save her as they're about to pull the plug a la "Just like Heaven").

Whichever way it turns out I bet amnesia is in the future of this show, Hyun Ji already suffers from Ghost Amnesia it's only logical she'll get the related Death Amnesia (when a character doesn't remember their afterlife/out of body experience once they come back to life). After all it's one of the unwritten rules of the Universe or at least the fiction universe that every spirit that respects itself will have at least some degree of memory impairment once they return to human life.

I think if she is in a coma and does wake up with no memory of being a ghost, she will pass her exams and wind up at BP's college, which is to her liking. They will meet again there. That, to me, is a classic Kdrama ending.

I'm almsot 100% certain that the evil spirit that possessed BP went into HS after the exorcism (or rather after he took his revenge by killing mom). When HS encountered monk Myung-chul outside BP's apartment complex couple episodes ago he said "long time no see" and since HS and monk never met before it must be the evil spirit referring to the exorcism scene.
Young HS probably already had a lot of pent-up anger in him seeing his mom being a victim of domestic violence (I assume his mom's beaten up face wasn't a onetime incident.) and since this drama has a lot of parallels to OMG I suspect the evil spirit chose HS as his host because he therefore had a "weak" spirit which was easy to possess.

But I wonder what the "thing" is evil spirit is looking for and what role BP's dad play in this whole scenario. ?

Given how the previews have tended to play out, I am expecting Bongpal to find Hyunji only at the end of Epi12, leaving us hanging for another week.

So this is my theory: Baddie Hye-soo was the spirit posessing Bong-Pal. Then he killed his mom. Then he posessed the other kid and started wreaking havoc. He's still looking for something, and Monk Chul said the spirit left a bit of itself in Bong-Pal's eyes. If the spirit didn't know it got left there (maybe thinking of the bracelet or the sword instead) it could end up being after Bong-Pal's eyes.

Also, I loved the relationship development this episode. Not happy (come on, be together!) But I look forward to them getting to a more secure place through it. Thanks, LollyPip!

This OTP are just killin me with the CUTE. They're so sweet and so happy that they can "see" each other, and see each other's true natures that they can't even begin to explain to others.

True, Bong Pal's ability to see ghosts isn't something he asked for, and it's made him lonely and sad all his life, but now that he's got Hyun Ji, she makes it all okay, and vice versa.

Interesting cracks in Hye Sung's armour. I wonder if he took over the little boy's body, and that's why his mum says: "He's not my son"?

Still don't think Hye Sung's alibi about visiting his mum is all that watertight, either. 11.30pm sounds a bit late to be visiting your parents...

I definitely agree that while Bong Pal and Hyun-ji are adorable, they were not meant to last. Especially if she is a ghost (which I really don't think she is dead). My thing is, why did they have her leave that man like that? Really? On his birthday, stuck on a boat! He is running around screaming her name looking crazed. She could poof out from anywhere. That was just cruel.

Thanks @LollyPip.

I like that this show has humor and mystery, horror and romance so nicely interspersed. It would be even greater if the police and Myung Chul were rather a lot more effective. If not for that part which drags the show a bit, everything else seems fast paced and moving along well.

I hope we get to know more about what Bong Pal's dad was trying to do and how they got estranged. I'm guessing that in the videos and letters of his father, Bong Pal may find information or clues on where the thing is that will help him defeat the evil mist once and for all, with Myung Chul's, Hyun Ji's and the Blood Sausage Group's help.

I'm also guessing that Hyun Ji is going to awaken from a coma somewhere and whether she remembers Bong Pal and how they find each other will be the arc that makes or breaks this show's ending for us.

Happy watching, All, with antsy anticipation!!! ;)

At the end when Hyun-ji white-smoked back into her high school uniform that's supposed to symbolize her break with Bong-pal and going back to the way she was before -- but I think she's also returning the expensive dress to him. Wonder if he can get his money back ??

Earlier when they were talking about going on a real date and doing what typical couples do -- the "date" started with shopping and him buying her an expensive dress and shoes. Some real date. Girl can be seriously high-maintenance. From my (guy) perspective, that is scarier than the supposed-to-be-scary openly evil ghosts :)

There may be a bit of a plot hole here, or at least an inconsistency. Yes, he had to burn the first dress, but he didn't have to burn the toothbrush, and she could try on all the clothes in the store without burning the place down. And it looked like she was in the new white dress immediately after they left the store. So I vote that burning isn't really necessary.

I completely agree with you on the plot hole thing especially since she tried out clothes at a freaking store (there's no way he would have bought them and burnt them for her to try them on). But I think that the burning thing is mandatory, it sorts of fit asian belief

0

Required fields are marked *

I believe it's more on the inconsistency of the ghostly universe rules in kdrama.

Well, at first it was established that BP needs to burn the dress for HJ to wear it. Meanwhile the dating dress, was not burned. My take on this matter : the dress/anything that is to be given to the ghost can be either BURNED or OFFERED, like how BP OFFERED food to HJ without the need to burn the food first. Also, when BP requested for HJ's glass to be filled at the classy restaurant on their cute date, HJ can drink it because BP offered it to her. So, as long as BP has the 'intention to give'/bought the dress or anything to HJ, tadaa, she can have it.

Also, I don't think that the dress when hanging on thin air when HJ was trying it. The most rational explanation for that situation would be the same as the 'untouched' food that we seen when BP & HJ is eating at home. To our eyes, the food is untouched. But to BP's eyes, HJ is scoffing it down. Haha. So, most probably the salesgirl in the boutique was baffled to see on why BP is talking to himself rather then looking at clothes hanging in the air.

Phew. My longest comment ever on DB.

Hyun-ji wakens from her coma just long enough for a tearful farewell, then dies for real. She becomes a real ghost and follows Bong-Pal forever, but he has had his eyes fixed and can't see her.

[spoiler] And I'm absolutely not going to make it even worse by mentioning anything spoilerish about how she might have become an organ donor to contribute to his cure, and how she might even be a blind ghost. No sir, I would never do such a thing.

To people saying just Google her name, yeah good luck trying to do a Google search and you get hundreds and hundreds of Kim Hyun Ji. She doesn't even know what high school she came from so they can't even narrow it down. I am somewhat bothered why there's not much motivation for Bong Pal to find out who she actually is.

Guh that was so sad I can't even. That bit with Hyun Min and Soo Kyung made me tear up. I did think Soo Kyung's death was just dumb. She started running and the light was still green. The light turns red while she's still on the road and then a car hits her at like full speed. If anything, I would say either the road is too wide that it took such a long time for her to cross even if she was running at full speed or the driver was just plain stupid for not being careful enough.

The fake ghost in my opinion was just unnecessary.

I feel so bad for Rang but I can't help but laugh at his crying scene while Sang has his arms out ready to give him the bro hug. At the same time I can't really sympathize with him for falling in love with someone he can barely see and can't even directly communicate with. Now if Hyun Ji was actually in a coma, I can't wait to see his face upon meeting Hyun Ji's human form.

Agree with everything you've said.

Add-on about the Google thing:
I think people are forgetting that they have a contract. She's supposed to help him exorcise ~20-25 ghosts. He's helping her take the SATs, which they think will help her move on. I suppose the writers felt it was unnecessary for him to Google her.

I guess that's whats love about, for another own good. It was still heartbreaking and really sad. Especially the preview of next week, got teary-eyed...

For them to be together in the future hopefully, they need to be seperated so they can find out who both Hyunji and Hyesung are. Lets just hope Hyunji is somewhere alive cause i dont see Bongpal ever trusting someone and be alone again if she truly disappears. I want my otp'd happy ending!

Well, bong pal said he often forgets his bday... now he'll remember it for life! What a sad day... Idk if they deliberately dont look for hyunji's past or what but it bugs me how Hyunji could send a mail/text to Bongpal in the first ep. But couldnt google herself... Maybe she did but found nothing? Thats up in the air but I wish the detectives or our team can find her because that looks like the ultimate clue to stop Hyesung. Speaking of the devil, with how angry he looked when the detectives approached his mom, I keep thinking hes a few steps from making a mistake and being caught.. well, even if you can actually catch a ghost that is...

Omg. okay so Bong Pal was possessed by an evil spirit when he was a boy and the monk ahjussi took it out of him but didn't destroy it completely, so it killed Bong Pal's mom. The evil spirit that is possessing the professor might be the same spirit that possessed Bong Pal and killed his mom. That might also explain why the professor was watching Bong Pal and his family from afar when Bong Pal had his middle school graduation, like checking up on him. And also why he knows the monk ahjussi, since they showed the same flashback of the monk ahjussi with the sword when they met at the apartment complex!

But damn I cried a lot in this episode, the couple's story was so just so sad. They could have lived happily ever after with his surgery going well and everything, but a car accident ruined it. ;w; And noooo Hyun Ji disappearing on Bong Pal was so sad. I totally understand why she did it, but ugh they barely realized their feelings and got together y'know..

I want to know what's happening next week, but I don't really understand what's going on in the preview! ;w; ahh I just hope she starts remembering more and figures out what happened to her soon~

I wonder why does Prof Ju's mum did not bury her son when she saw him died. Is it b/c if she tells the Police to recover her son's body the evil spirit will come hunt her? That Prof Ju's isn't her son already. The body, yes.. but not the soul/spirit that's been using it. If he has died long time already maybe the Police couldn't recover it anymore (completely ashes already). What the real Prof Ju needs is prayers.

Here's why I think it is most likely that Hyun-Ji is in fact in a coma and has not yet passed on:

1. Her appearance - As we have seen with other ghosts on the series, they generally will possess either a dark black aura (if they're malicious) or a slight transparent white glow (if they're kind). Hyun-Ji has neither of these, instead looking like a normal human, albeit one that no one besides Bong-Pal and Hye-Sung can see.

2. Her death is a mystery - One thing I've noticed so far is that all other ghosts on the series are aware of how they died. Not only does Hyun-Ji not remember her death (possibly because it never happened), but she also has a major case of amnesia. Every other ghost so far knows who they are/were, and have specifically haunted people or locations related to their lives.

3. Her disappearance - In episode 8, after spending the evening at an amusement park, Hyun-Ji fades away when the two are heading home alone, only to appear again a few moments later. When we have seen other ghosts head into the afterlife, not only is it permanent, but it also includes some sort of light surrounding the ghost as they left. But with Hyun-Ji she simply vanished. I think it's possible that Hyun-Ji briefly regained consciousness, only to slip into a comatose state again.

4. She nearly died - Hyun-Ji was nearly drowned by a ghost in the river back when the Blood Sausage Soup club went on their retreat. Now sure, Kyung-Ja was definitely a ghost and she was killed as one. But that was by Hye-Sung, someone that it is evident is possessed by some demonic evil spirit (probably the one that was in Bong-Pal as a child). While the ghost that tried to kill Hyun-Ji was evil, she was clearly of a different kind of evil, not hellish like the professor.

5. She eats and sleeps - We haven't seen enough of other ghosts to know if they do this too, but frankly it's hard to believe that a ghost would need to sleep. It's possible that this is in the continuity for other ghosts, but unless we see that, it seems like yet another thing that sets Hyun-Ji apart.

6. Her ability to just wear clothes - Early on, Bong-Pal had to burn clothes so that Hyun-Ji could wear them (as is the case for all ghosts), but since she briefly disappeared in episode 8, I've noticed that Hyun-Ji has been able to just wear clothes without them having been burnt. She was trying them out in the store with Bong-Pal and wearing them clearly when he didn't burn them beforehand. It could just be that the PD forgot about the whole burning thing.. but maybe not.

Do you guys agree?

YES! YES! and YES!!! I am accepting anything as a foreshadowing that Hyun Ji is indeed still alive and is just in a coma largely because it caters to the ending I want for her and Bong Pal. But looking at all the evidence so far, this is most likely/hopefully where the story is heading. Crosses fingers.

Who else thinks that the bad spirit possessing Hye-sung might be a former lover of his mother. Heck, he might even be his biological father but wouldn't it be a tad too cruel to possess your own child, unless he's unaware of this fact.

Judging from the bruises on his mother's face in that flashback scene, it looks like she was being physically abused by his husband. That bad spirit might've loved Hye-sung's mom a lot and couldn't bear it anymore, so he thought possessing Hye-sung and pushing the husband to his death from floors above would end her suffering. But he might be too obsessed with her and decided to stick around. Whoever he is, Hye-sung's mom sure knows exactly who it is that's posessing her son and is too scared to even do something about it.

That doesn't explain why the spirit was tormenting Bong-pal's parents. Unless they were all old friends back in the day until Hye-sung's mom decided to marry a well-off guy based from the house she was living in. He must've felt betrayed.

The big question is what he's been looking for all this while. Something so important to cause Bong-pal's dad to go missing or worse dead. Perhaps, something that can make the posession permanent or his revenge complete. Bong-pal's parents are gone, so only Hye-sung's mom is left. Unless he is somehow connected to Hyun-ji's mom too.

For some reason I have a feeling that Hyunji isn't really dead. I think she's probably in the hospital in a coma or something and she just thinks she's dead and she's a "ghost." I'm not quite sure though. It's just my theory. I really hope she and Bongpal end up together. I really ship them and I don't care about Taecyeon(Bongpal) and Kim Sohyun's(Hyunji) age gap of 11 years. I just really ship their characters together.

HJ is a pretty substantial humanoid ghost. She can be hugged, kissed, beat up, and killed. The drowning scene was weird. What happens when you drown a ghost?

And ok, so she can disappear but why do it in the middle of a birthday celebration on a boat. Why not just say good-bye? This is one aspect of K-dramas I just don't get. I guess it is more dramatic but how mean can you be....
