Oh Hae-young PD in talks to helm Park Hae-jin’s Man to Man
by girlfriday
Well if this comes to pass, it’s going to be a PD-writer-star lineup to anticipate: JTBC’s new drama Man to Man has already secured leading man Park Hae-jin (Cheese in the Trap) and writer Kim Won-seok (co-writer on KBS’s Descended From the Sun), and now the production is courting PD Song Hyun-wook, of tvN’s recent hit Oh Hae-young Again. Between Cheese, Descended, and Oh Hae-young, that’s a lot of ratings and buzz they’ve got behind them, going into this new project.
The new series stars Park Hae-jin as a man who becomes a bodyguard to a top star. A longtime celebrity suddenly has a need for a bodyguard and hires Park Hae-jin, a man trained in special investigations. He’s described as a mysterious man of many talents, and the drama is about the twisty events they encounter and the budding bromance between star and bodyguard.
There’s not much else that’s been released about the plot, but I’m definitely excited by this trio of talent gathered for the production, especially if PD Song Hyun-wook joins them. He’s had some ups and downs — downs include Haeundae Lovers, Superdaddy Yeol — but he’s also helmed two recent rom-com gems — Marriage Not Dating and Oh Hae-young Again, which were thoughtful, stylish, and directed with wit.
He’s even worked with Park Hae-jin before, back when he was on the B team of Hot-Blooded Salesman. The filming crew will reportedly be the one from Park Hae-jin’s weekend drama My Daughter Seo-young as well, so there will be reunions all around. The director hasn’t been finalized, according to the production company, so we’ll have to wait and see if they can lock him down on the heels of his recent success at tvN.
Man to Man plans to start shooting in September.

Omo, if this PD really joins Man To Man then I'll definitely need some romance as well. Hello he gave us such great kisses in MnD and OHYA, it'll be such a waste of PHJ's lips otherwise...plus we're on cable guys! ^_^

Even then, it's all the writing. The cinematography was gorgeous. I loved how he played with angles and depths.

Is he Director in Oh Hae Young? Director don't take responsible for cinematography. Cinematography responsible belongs to Chief PD. And I can see how terrible skill of him in Chief PD with Wang's Family? Camera wides so poor.

Oh?! Does anyone mind letting me know the role of PDs in films? Do they guide actors on how to act certain scenes...?

Diretors take reponsible for guid actors how to acting, arrange scenes.
Producers take reponsible for camera work (wides, light), effect,...

No, in Korean dramas, they have PDs, or what they call production directors.
These production directors basically oversee everything, which can include directing the actors to overseeing the editing, to the cinematography. That's why PDs are so important, and why they're given the most flak when something goes terribly wrong, aka the pd of trap.

Huh? The article says that it's the PD they're chasing after.
And in any case, I liked Marriage Not Dating's cinematogrphy too.
And Wang's Family is a low budget weekend drama. What were you expecting??

PD of What Happens To My Family, Wonderful Days is so much better than PD of Wang's Family.

So it's basically the Kdrama version of "Boku to Star no 99 Nichi".
I'm just glad to see PHJ in my screen.

What a trio that would be! I'm interested in this drama and looking forward to seeing PHJ in another drama - still sad about what happened with CITT so I'm ready to replace those memories with new ones. May the drama gods be kind...

Finally the news about Man to Man again. I'll be waiting quietly for Park Hae Jin to appear again on my screen. And if there's reunion with MDS, I hope they will cast the actress who plays PHJ's wife in MDS. I love their interaction in MDS. Dramagods, please make it true. Man to Man, Fighting!

I did like the direction in OHY, but I'm wondering how it would work for a drama like Man to Man. I thought it was supposed to be more serious in tone? As for the writer, still a bit wary of her. I know it could mean ratings for PHJ, which I would love for him to have, but I want to be able to watch it.

I'm actually really curious to see whether his style will change a bit for this drama. His directing is very thoughtful so I think he would be able to adjust to a more serious, contemplative tone. We'll see.

Really, like the director's work on Marriage Not Dating and Oh Hae Young Again. And I'm loving Park Hae Jin, too. I feel like he has a quiet charisma. It's not in your face and he doesn't necessarily command attention but you can't help but to watch his every move. So, I think a mysterious bodyguard role is a great fit for him.
It'a JTBC drama and about friendship? So it'll probably be really thoughtful haha. I can't wait to see promo to gauge the tone.

yeah, that's exactly how I feel about Park Hae-jin - he draws a lot of attention because of his looks, but he's really quite at home as the mysterious/ambiguous type. Even when the drama doesn't deserve him.

Now with the whole sudden need for bodyguard and one who is trained in special investigations at that, I'm thinking of the scary arc in Wild Romance. Is it too much to ask for a more serious bromance version of WR?
