Bring It On, Ghost: Episode 4
by LollyPip
As Bong-pal and Hyun-ji embark on their joint ghostfighting venture, they can’t help but grow closer in the process. They’re learning about each other, and that can only be good for their new partnership. But it’s not all hearts and roses, as some of the revelations are dark and painful, and it’s not easy to open up to someone new even if she is “just” a ghost.
EPISODE 4 RECAP
Bong-pal burns the peach dress he just bought for Hyun-ji, and downstairs, her school uniform fades away and is replaced by the pretty new outfit. She smiles happily to herself, then travels upstairs to show Bong-pal. She looks so pretty, all Bong-pal can do is stare.
Bong-pal looks at something on his phone, then picks up Hyun-ji in a princess carry. She’s just about to swoon when he says they have to go to work. Heh.
Elsewhere in a sauna, a woman is showering alone. Her water turns off by itself, and a creepy hand reaches out of a black mist to touch her leg. She looks down and sees a face leering at her out of the mist, and she screams.
Bong-pal doesn’t hold his apartment door open for Hyun-ji, assuming she’ll just walk through it, but instead she bumps her nose. Bong-pal doesn’t even notice when he goes back out to tell her they have another job, and Hyun-ji whines for a day off, tired from last night’s ghost-fight. Bong-pal reminds her of their agreement, pulling her along behind him when she tries to refuse.
Chun-sang complains about the state of the room after the confrontation with the idol ghost, and says that he needs to thank Bong-pal for saving his life. He wonders how Bong-pal knew he was in danger, but before he can tell him, In-rang gets a message from Bong-pal. Chun-sang assumes it’s to check on him, but HA, it’s a reminder for his payment.
Chun-sang is flustered that Bong-pal didn’t rescue him out of the goodness of his heart, but they don’t have the money to pay him either. The club committee representative knocks on their door just then, hilariously knocking it right off its weakened hinges, and the hiding boys are busted.
The next morning, a sleepy Hyun-ji accidentally walks in on Bong-pal shirtless, and it’s hard to tell who is more surprised (though I notice Hyun-ji got a good gander at the abs). Hyun-ji apologizes, then notices that Bong-pal seems particularly nicely-dressed today, and remembers that today is his class with Seo-yeon.
Shy Bong-pal hotly denies it, looking guilty as sin, and heads off to class. Bored already, Hyun-ji follows him, and Bong-pal doesn’t even seem all that annoyed anymore.
Hyun-ji sees Kyung-ja on campus and shows off her pretty dress, though she notices that she’s still wearing her sneakers. Kyung-ja asks if it’s the guy Hyun-ji kissed who burned the dress for her (ha, she calls him “Soondae,” for his soft lips), and immediately assumes romance.
Hyun-ji says it’s not like that, that she only got the dress because she nagged, and anyway he likes someone else. Still, when Hyun-ji pops back to Bong-pal, she can’t help but look at him differently. She sneers when Bong-pal bounces over to Seo-yeon like a loyal puppy, and she’s jealous of Seo-yeon’s feminine heels.
Bong-pal moons at Seo-yeon while they prepare for class, and Hyun-ji teases him for liking her so much. Thinking to force him to talk to her, she pushes Bong-pal into Seo-yeon, but Hye-sung arrives for class so Bong-pal can’t talk to her.
Hye-sung realizes he’s forgotten some class materials just as Hyun-ji is leaning close looking at the scratch on his hand, and though he doesn’t appear to see her, he actually side-steps to avoid walking through her. Huh, interesting. During class Hyun-ji tells Bong-pal that she thinks the teacher can see her, but he blows off her concern.
Bong-pal goes looking for Chun-sang and In-rang when they don’t answer his payment request, and finds their club room cleared out. He tells Hyun-ji that if he doesn’t get paid, that ghost fight doesn’t count towards what she owes him, and suddenly she’s as angry as he is.
Between Bong-pal and the money they owe the school to repair their room, the boys can’t afford either, and they argue about what they’re going to do.
(Warning: The following scene has some disturbing moments depicting violence against animals. Just a heads-up to those who may find this upsetting.)
Seo-yeon sees a friend who didn’t make it to class today, who turns out to be the girl who was feeding the stray cat that ended up dead. She’s acting strange, and when she sees Hye-sung, she remembers seeing him crouching near the spot where she found the cat’s body.
She’d watched while he’d picked up the cat, then calmly squeezed the life out of it. When it was over, he’d actually smiled, then he’d seemed to sense someone nearby.
The girl gets up and leaves, leaving Seo-yeon wondering what’s wrong, and dropping a pen from her bag in the meantime. Seo-yeon picks it up, and realizes it’s Hye-sung’s pen.
Instead of lunch, Bong-pal presents Hyun-ji with a test — he needs to know how much she knows so he can tutor her. She’s ungracious about it, but she takes the test, and Bong-pal gives her a little head-pat as a reward.
When she’s done, she figures that she’d need a score good enough to get into this college in order to move on, and Bong-pal grades the test and grumps that she won’t be ascending any time soon. Ha. Hyun-ji argues that it’s been five years since she studied after all, and Bong-pal jokes that this is the easiest test.
Seo-yeon takes the monogrammed pen to Hye-sung, telling him that her classmate Hyun-joo had it. Hye-sung thanks her and asks after the dog, but his expression turns frightening once he’s alone. He goes to the spot where he killed the cat and finds a small bouquet of flowers, and knows that Hyun-joo saw him that night.
Monk Myung-chul goes for acupuncture treatment, and the doctor asks if Bong-pal knows he did this to himself to save him. Myung-chul says of course not, and forbids the doctor to say a word about it. They discuss Bong-pal’s father, who seems to have moved again without telling anyone where he’s gone.
The doctor asks if he’s still chasing the evil ghost that killed his wife, and gives Myung-chul a photo of young Bong-pal and an unfinished letter that he found at his last residence. That seems to indicate that he left in a hurry, and the doctor says that the landlady mentioned that someone else was looking for him. She didn’t see his face well, but he was young and handsome.
In-rang tries to sell his video camera to raise some money, but the shopkeeper refuses it, saying that it looks like something was forced into it. In-rang blinks over at Chun-sang, who tries to play innocent, but he finally admits that he messed with it without permission. In-rang lets out a furious primal scream.
All sweetness and light now, Chun-sang treats In-rang to lunch. In-rang makes him show all the money he has, and their combined fortune is pathetic. He’s still angry, but In-rang invites Chun-sang to stay with his family for now. But Chun-sang declines, so In-rang just leaves in disgust… with all the money, hee.
That night Bong-pal presents Hyun-ji with a huge stack of books, telling her it’s only the beginning. She fakes a stomachache and tries to run off to the bathroom, but Bong-pal stops her: “You’re a ghost.” Heh. He starts with math, but Hyun-ji nods off, and he has to catch her before she topples over. He lays her head on the table and pushes her hair off her face, letting himself smile at her for a moment.
In-rang finds a sauna offering a steep discount, and Chun-sang wonders why the place seems so empty. They lay down to sleep in the steam room, and Bong-pal texts again about his money. Chun-sang takes the battery out of the phone, and they settle in to sleep.
Some time during the night In-rang leaves the room to avoid Chun-sang’s snuggles, and the lights flicker out. Chun-sang snorts awake, and finds a ghost breathing black smoke down at him. He tries to escape but the door is locked, and the ghost pulls him away from the door every time he gets to it. In-rang finally rouses and sees his friend seemingly struggling alone in the room, and he easily unlocks the door.
Hyun-ji sleeps all night on the coffee table, and yells at Bong-pal for not moving her to the couch. He snarks that she’s too heavy, and goes to shower before she can make him pay for that remark.
She notices that he left the door open to a spare room, one he’d told her not to enter, so of course she goes right in. It’s filled with boxes and personal belongings, and a shelf of videos all marked with the name “Hong Myung-hee.” But the thing that interests Hyun-ji most is a box containing a pair of pretty, strappy heels.
When Bong-pal finishes his shower Hyun-ji asks him to burn the shoes for her, which makes him angry. He yells at her for coming in here without permission and touching his things, and cruelly reminds her that she’s a ghost. “Don’t act like you’re human.” Ouch.
Chun-sang is exhausted from his ghostly encounter, and In-rang does some research and discovers that the sauna was so cheap because a man died there a month ago. An exorcism was performed, but it didn’t succeed, and now the sauna can’t get any customers.
The two friends head off to nap in an empty lecture hall, but run straight into Bong-pal instead. They lead him in a merry chase around the quad, and Bong-pal eventually catches them and flings them to the ground. Chun-sang swears they didn’t mean to cheat him, they just need more time, and In-rang promises to pay up in two days.
By lunchtime Bong-pal is feeling Hyun-ji’s absence, worried about whether she’s eating. She’s thinking about him too, wondering if she should go to see him, but she remembers his harsh words and stays put.
Chun-sang and In-rang cook up a scheme to get the sauna to pay out, and hilariously suit up for the confrontation. Are they trying to look like the men in black? They find the sauna closed, and offer their services as ghost hunters.
Bong-pal arrives home from school to find Hyun-ji still pouting in the dark apartment, and she answers all of his questions with a petulant Who cares, I’m just a ghost. Bong-pal loudly wonders what he’ll do with all the meat he just bought, and it takes all of Hyun-ji’s strength to keep up her grump as he cooks and eats dinner.
The moment he goes to bed Hyun-ji runs to the kitchen, and finds the table set with a huge meal just for her. Awww.
Hye-sung’s nurses discuss how the clinic is struggling — Hye-sung used to have a clinic in Gangnam and made money hand over fist, but one day he inexplicably moved the clinic to this area. He sends them home and heads out, saying just that he has somewhere to go.
Bong-pal takes a call and also goes out, telling Hyun-ji that he’s going to collect payment from Chun-sang and In-rang. He looks adorably pleased when she asks to tag along… so cute.
He meets with Chun-sang and In-rang, who tell him their plan — instead of paying him directly, they’ll bring him jobs. He starts to walk out, causing In-rang to blurt out that they’ll pay triple his price, and Chun-sang drags him away. Meanwhile Hyun-ji sneaks Bong-pal’s drink when he’s not looking, hee.
Chun-sang comes back and offers Bong-pal the high price while Bong-pal is still snarling at Hyun-ji, making Chun-sang raise the amount even more. That’s enough to have Bong-pal agreeing, and they all head over to the sauna. Hyun-ji is good and toasted by now, from Bong-pal’s drink.
Bong-pal is shown the room where Chun-sang was attacked, but there’s nothing in there now. He’s more concerned with where Hyun-ji’s disappeared to, and we see that she’s fallen asleep in another room.
In-rang tells Bong-pal that the man who died here was a regular, but he wasn’t really welcomed because he used to grope the female customers. The lights start to flicker, but the ghost is actually in the room with Hyun-ji, creeping close to touch her bare leg. She wakes and screams, and Bong-pal goes running.
To Chun-sang and In-rang it looks like Bong-pal is talking to nobody. He’s lured away by the ghost, who pops away and appears next to Hyun-ji again, picking her up and tossing her over his shoulder. Her reflexes are dulled by the drink she had, and the ghost throws her at Bong-pal, knocking them both to the ground.
Chun-sang and In-rang figure out what’s happening, but they’re yanked away when they try to help. They run to hide in the steam room, while Bong-pal fights the ghost and Hyun-ji stops to drink some juice.
She decides to jump in, but her sliding kick is foiled by the ghost, who grabs her and tries to kiss her. He throws her across the room when she spits her juice in his face, and Bong-pal comes in with an awesome rolling wrestling move. The ghost grabs his feet and wishbones him, ouch, but it allows Hyun-ji to spot his weakness right in the middle of his chest.
She slurs to Bong-pal to hit him in his chest, and Bong-pal jumps up and plants his knee right in the ghost’s weak spot. Okay, that was cool.
Hyun-ji is a drunken mess on the walk home, though she claims she’s completely fine. Then she falls over, heh. She tries to teleport to prove how very very sober she is, and pops herself right into a sign. She whines and refuses to go home, and says that Bong-pal needs a beating, but she can’t manage to land a punch.
Bong-pal shakes his head at a drunk ghost, but Hyun-ji asks why a ghost can’t get drunk.”Can’t a ghost want to wear pretty clothes? Why can’t I act like a human?!” She repeats his words that she’s just a ghost, and yells at him not to say things like that.
Crying now, Hyun-ji asks if Bong-pal thinks she chose to die. She wails that she doesn’t even know how or why she died, adding that she doesn’t like being a ghost. She says that ghosts can be hurt too, and calls Bong-pal a jerk. You tell him, girl.
Bong-pal just listens to it all, then piggybacks Hyun-ji home. She pats his face and calls him cute, then smacks him when he says she’s heavy.
Someone calls out Hyun-joo’s name as she’s walking home, and Hye-sung walks out of the shadows, his face a frighteningly blank mask. He says he wants to ask her something, and holds up his pen. He asks where she got it, and laughs when she can’t think of a quick answer.
He advances on her, noting casually that there’s nobody around. Hyun-joo runs, but Hye-sung pops up right in front of her as a cat wails in anguish somewhere nearby. He reaches out and grabs her throat, and Hyun-joo gasps for breath. As he crushes the life out of her, Hye-sung smiles.
COMMENTS
I just love how Bong-pal is barely even trying to act like he doesn’t want Hyun-ji around anymore. I’d worried at first, concerned that the bickering (my favorite part of their relationship) would slow down, but they seem as willing to snipe at each other as always. It’s just taking a less mean and more teasing tone, and it feels like they’re just doing it out of habit and because it’s fun, but it’s just as adorable as ever. Mostly I’m just entranced by the change in Bong-pal when Hyun-ji is around — she brings out a lighter side of him, making him seem more like a young college boy and less burdened by life. Hyun-ji is definitely having a positive influence on him, and it already shows.
As much as I adore the show just the way it is, and wouldn’t change a thing, I’m also very anxious to learn about some of these secrets that keep being teased. Hyun-ji obviously has some reason for being a ghost instead of moving on, and I have a feeling that it has very little to do with not having taken the college entrance exams. But interestingly and unexpectedly, Bong-pal is just as much of a mystery here, what with his tragic life story and current problems it’s causing, both the ones he knows about and the ones he’s unaware of.
Clearly, his mother’s death was caused by a supernatural force, and the event somehow caused his ability to see ghosts. But something happened with his father as well, and I’m dying to know why he refuses to have any sort of contact with his dad, even to the point of not reading his letters. If his father is searching for the ghost that killed his mother, why is Bong-pal cutting him out of his life? Myung-chul seems to know the whole story but for some reason is keeping it from Bong-pal, as well as some other secret possibly having to do with the loss of his own shamanistic powers. I’m very eager to learn how all this ties together, and how it fits in with Bong-pal’s ghost-seeing ability.
On the lighter side, I’m going to love it if every ghost Bong-pal and Hyun-ji end up fighting is because it’s attacking Chun-sang. He does seem to be a ghost magnet, doesn’t he? It’s already turning into a cute running joke, the way he keeps ending up being this damsel in distress, and Bong-pal and Hyun-ji have to run to the rescue. I’d assumed that Chun-sang and In-rang would help fight ghosts eventually, but if their narrative purpose is actually as procurers and/or ghost-bait, I’m pretty much fine with that, too.
This show does a very good job playing the funny and the scary against each other, and I’m actually pretty damn impressed with the excellent balancing act. Normally a show that offers two buffoons running around screaming, side by side with a (probably) possessed man who strangles cats and coeds in his free time, cute flirty bickering and suicidal idols, would feel very dissonant and off-putting. But the scenes are edited in such a way that it never feels jolting to switch from one tone to the next, and I find myself cringing and laughing equally without any of it feeling out of place. The show is a good story, but it’s also good storytelling, and that’s what makes it such an addicting watch.

I don't know about anyone else...but I find the ghosts quite scary sometimes. Not enough to make me turn away but enough to make me jump while watching in the dark lol. Oh I hope HyunJi is actually alive and in a coma somewhere. I have a feeling that creepy professor, the monk, Bong-pal and HyunJi are connected somehow in the past. That creepy professor may have been responsible for killing Bong-pal's mom and HyunJi too...
On an unrelated note, anyone disappointed to hear that they may cut back on Beautiful Mind? It's a 16 episode drama and so well-written that I really it's not the case. I Remember You had similar ratings but was able to keep it's high quality production all until the end. I'm praying they will not cut down on more episodes!! :'(

I too hope that HyunJi is in a coma somewhere. Actually I feel like the show is given us a few hints like she would say that she is not as good as teleporting as other ghosts. And why her color is not the same as the other ghosts.

I'm not a Korean speaker, but from the subs, I gather he was talking about dogs and how their roles have changed - from meat source/skin source to present-day companion. I could be totally off though, but from the subs, that seems to be what he was talking about.

Sorry...I was resting my comment since my previous two posts did not post at all. Something's wrong with DB site again? Anyway, I just wanted to post my speculations. I think yes, professor is definitely possessed by an evil ghost. This drama kinda gives me Oh My Ghostess vibes. I also think that HyunJi's death and Bong-Pal's mother's death was somehow related. HyunJi may have accidentally intervened somehow and that evil ghost killed her too. Although...I have a suspicion that HyunJi may actually be alive somewhere but in a coma. Similar to the movie "Just Like Heaven". Evil ghost in the proper may be trying to look for Bong-pal's father (actually what happened to his father??) And the reason why Bong-pal is still alive now is thanks to the monk. So the link somehow saved him and probably out a shield on Bong-pal? Gah...so many theories!
On a side note...this is unrelated but I just wanted to get this off my chest after reading the news. I hear that Beautiful Mind may be ending sooner than expected. They might cut back on the number of episodes...I'm like Nooooo! :'( I love this drama. I Remember You has similar ratings and like BM was underrated, yet they kept the drama all the way to the end. I really hope they down cut BM down...

So the link somehow saved him and probably out a shield on Bong-pal?So the monk somehow saved him and probably put a protective shield on Bong-pal? (Ala Mirror of the Witch style?). This would also explain why the landlord lady thinks that no one is living in Bong-pal's apartment? What do you guys think?Required fields are marked *

I am totally dismayed that they might cut Beautiful Mind, it's been so terrific the last few episodes, and any kind of romance they had in mind has just got started. Thanks for the head's up, I'm off to that link.

My monthly data has finished and so internet is slothing slow. But, I've patiently waited to read this recap. Yeay! Thanks LP. I'm obsess with this drama n Beautiful Mind since I watch the raw version and then the sub one. Usually I can understand LFG since it's easy korean but not BM( filled with meds jargon) I love the comic in this drama n the ghost r quite eerie too. Such great combination and so many unanswered mysteries. I was shocked when the vet moved aside. Does this means he heard every single of BP and HJ conversation? Oh uh~ not good
Btw: if there's a petition to support BM, I will sign it! Don't take my Mon-Tues happiness. I might go In Rang hulk crazy!

I am unreasonably glad that Chun-sang's crazy high-pitched primal scream of rage is an ongoing thing. He puts up with so much from In-rang, and he can sometimes seem like a pushover, but he's definitely got a core of steel to him. And a screech like a psychotic teakettle. They're such a weird little odd couple and I'd hate In-Rang in real life, but as a sideshow they're kind of fun. I DEFINITELY want them to be Bong Pal's agents/ghostbait.
I keep feeling like Hyun Ji being heavy has something to do with her un-ghostiness. Her unni has been hanging off men for years and all they get is a neck crick, but Bong Pal is built like a football player and has mentioned she's heavy a couple of times already.

He he...methinks you've switched them around, Chun Sang and In Rang. ?
Although loved by many here, Chun Sang annoys the heck out of me, though not as much as the char in OMG played by the same actor. Shouty and obtuse with a penchant for getting those around him into trouble. Nothing against the actor personally, just the chars he played.
Having said that, I still enjoy this show. A lot. Bong Pal and Hyun Ji more than make up for whatever annoyances I have to go through in the show. ?

Dammit, you're right, I did reverse them. The guy playing Chun Sang is always weirdly handsy in his roles - very physical and aggressively affectionate in a way that always seems a little bit much. Having In Rang in his 13-year-old-at-math-camp vibe around helps temper that a bit.

This show hooked me in the first 10 minutes and that's pretty rare nowadays, so I'm super-happy that I checked it out.
That little line from Monk Myung-chul about Bong Pal's dad hunting the thing that killed his mother - anyone else get a Supernatural/Winchesters vibe? In which case, Bong Pal would be the Sam, wouldn't he? The one who wanted out of the family "business", trading it in for good old college life?
Also, what was with that Residents' Committee head saying no one had lived in Bong Pal's apartment for a decade (from which ep, I don't recall)? That strike anyone else as odd/foreshadowy?
Ack, so many questions. I should have checked this show out when it was already done airing...
Also, it's legit unfair that the vet should have such smooth, dewy skin and be such a cold-blooded killer, haha.

I just wrote that in my own post, lol. Yes, the Supernatural vibe is there! Bong Pal=Sam. Too bad there's no equivalent to Dean =( Also, don't you think that Hye-Sung is the yellow eyed demon? In Supernatural he was always close to Sam, and in this isn't it too much of a coincidence that he's suddenly their "new" teacher because their original one "left"?

High Winchester 5! Although I haven't followed the show since season 5, I immediately thought of it when the monk made that comment. Hmm, yeah, yellow-eyed demon seems like a good analogy. Especially with that flashback of Bong Pal during recess saying sorry to an unseen entity. Maybe he did something to tick off a ghost who is now hunting him down. Newest cover is his new professor who just "suddenly" moved offices and took up the position.
Well, Monk Myungchul could be Dean? lol. and those club friends are those Ghostfacer guys, haha

I love this show and it makes me laugh but golly gee, does it have the creepy factor on high! As a cat lover, I was sad when I realized he was going to kill that poor mama kitty but OH. MY. Great, but it's bound to loose some steam eventually, not just because statistically almost every kdrama goes downhill, or because nobody can maintain this high level forever. The best part (for me) is the cheerful playfulness, and I don't see how they can keep that up once they get around to seriously confronting whatever big bad killed Bong-Pal's mom either killed Hyun-Ji or put her in a coma.
So prepare for disappointment and pray I'm wrong. Maybe hire a certain monk to perform a service.

Lovely recap! I especially love what you say about how they're finessing the scary/funny balance.
My one criticism is that the main female lead's "cuteness" is turning a bit too whiny for me. She acted like a spoiled five year old in some scenes this week and that is going to wear my patience thin very soon if they don't grow her up a little bit. Whining - from child or adult - is like fingernails down a blackboard for me, very irritating.
So that aside, the dress things was adorable, and I noticed a few interesting things about her. Why is she always so damned tired? I do think, btw, that she is likely in a coma in real life, and wonder if her fatigue is connected to that (the memories "wakened" by a kiss; princess wakened by a kiss - I think he'll have to waken her in real life with a kiss after his kisses when she's a ghost awaken the memories they need to identify her).
Also, the fact that fatigue dilutes her ghost powers is likely going to play a huge factor later on and she won't be able to draw on them at a crucial moment.
I also wonder if their pasts are connected. They are about the same age if we include the five years she's spent as a ghost.
That thing that's on the vet's back is some kind of parasitic ghost that is possessing him - I wonder if it will turn out to be the same ghost possessing him that killed Bong Pal's mom and haunted Bong Pal himself as a child?

Agree with lovely recap!
Yeah, I also found Hyun-ji's "cuteness" in these episodes to be anything *but* cute. What happened? She was very sweet, spunky and cute in the first two episodes but in these latter episodes I found her behaviour to be more spoiled little girl. Hopefully the character will mature a little in the upcoming episodes!
Oh, this is not a criticism of the actress as she's doing a very good job (see episodes 1&2) but it is a criticism of how her character is currently written!

I agree. While Bong-pal's words were mean, Hyun-ji was wrong with going where she was told not to go, and even asking for Bong-pal to burn heels that she doesn't own. It was a spoiled brat move, especially when she didn't think about what the heels might've meant to Bong-pal, just that she wanted to have them.

Thank you LollyPip for the courteous warning. Somebody killed a cat in this show, nooooo! Thankfully there is no visual, so I can always imagine that professor was just cutting the cat's nails *denial mode
Loving the fight, it's so all out. They sure make bashing ghosts looks fun! Props for Taec coz I think he did the action himself. And Hyun Ji is the cutest drunk ever, haha. Kim So Hyun is so good, laugh-out-loud funny in one moment and heart-tugging in the next. Agreed with LollyPip that the show's balancing act is making it into an addicting watch. Am really not a ghost-story watcher, but every time there's a ghost in the scene, I hold on coz I know I will be laughing in the next scene.

Just guessing (and I have a cat in my lap purring at me as I type this, in case that helps you evaluate my credibility)
1: Witnesses
2: He's evil. We know that because he gets along with dogs (so far) and not with cats.

I know that at least for the Egyptians cats are seen to be guardians of the underworld and Seers of spirits. So that could play a part that the cat attacked out of knowledge that he was evil as opposed to the dog who was just defensive.
but I think he was ok with the dog living because there were witnesses and the dog showed the professor in a good light with the students, but with the catthere was no bennifit that it could give to the professor alive.

Just guessing, but maybe because there were witnesses around the trapped dog. The mama cat? Only one person knew about her.
And then the TA came and saved the dog by asking if she could have him.
(I expected him to be eating stew and one of his vet nurses walk up and ask, "what happened to that cute puppy in the window?" and him gulp and say, "oh, his owner showed up while you were out to lunch.")

Like basically everyone else at DB I was pretty worried about Taecyeon being cast when this show was first announced, but dang he's doing wonderfully in this role--not sure if he's just improved loads or the character is simply a good fit, but I'm loving him as Bong Pal (not to mention the adorable rapport he has with KSH)!
Also did anyone else think Hyun Ji bumping into the door screamed 'she's not really dead!' or is that wishful thinking?

Agree on both counts. Taecyeon is so much better suited for this role and is doing a great job in it AND when she bumped into the door I whispered, "yes! She's not dead! She's just unconscious somewhere else!"

But Hyun Ji making all these errors (bumping into the door, failing at teleportation)...
Anyone else worried that she's putting herself just in as much danger as Bong Pal even though she's 'dead'? Is it just me or did her neck start going white when Miz was strangling her in ep 3...idk if that was intentional but I feel like if something goes wrong with their exorcisms she could also disappear altogether.
And if she's indeed in a coma...she could be technically risking going back to her body if she's using up all that energy for the exorcisms.
If any of this is true...I can totally see the angst forming already when Bong Pal realizes he's indirectly putting her in danger. And it woulf go both ways...because obviously Hyun ji would be worried that Bong Pal is only human and can potentially die too.

in my theory
the "evil" vet is really a undercover ghost-buster, he killed mamma kitty because it was possessed (there was demonic hrrr's)
and that girl was so afraid of him because she's possessed too (ha).
about he's creepiness , wouldn't you all smile that creepy if you were about to kill some EVIL ghosts?

Totally enjoying the adorable drama. I'm puzzled about HJ's eating - aren't ghosts not supposed to actually eat the food? Like when Bong Pal showed the empty fridge to imply that she had eaten all the food ... the real life food should have been eaten by a human?

I didn't see you comment before I commented below. In this episode, clearly the food eaten and the beer drank by Hyun Ji did not vanish.
In our country, food offerings for the dead cannot be eaten by living humans anymore. Probably, the reason why Bong Pal said she emptied his fridge.

Maybe it's just the lighting, but it sure seems to me like Hyun-Ji is wearing different shades of lipstick on different days. Which raises the question -- if lipstick follows the same have-to-give-it-to-them rules as food and clothing, who gives her the lipstick?
And I hope you all appreciate the terrible hardship I went thru to try to verify that, having to scan thru 4 episodes and look closely at Kim So-Hyun's face in every closeup :) You're all welcome to do the same if you can stand it :) :) :)

I'm the last person to complain about shirtless Taecyeon. (Though staring at his chest and biceps in those shirts isn't too bad as well :-P )
The writer's definitely trying to get as much skinship as (legally and morally) possible out of this pairing, 4 episodes in and we already got 2 "kisses", princess carry and piggyback ride. (I'm assuming it's the writer coz this PD didn't let much skinship happening in the Let's Eat-franchises.)

Now, I'm pretty sure that Hyun-Ji's not dead. First, the failed teleportation which she thought was just a product of her being tired. Second, the bumping on the door.
Also, we can clearly see that Hyun Ji did not really eat the food prepared for her by Bong Pal and the glass of beer did not really get empty after she drank it. Food offerings for the dead cannot be eaten by humans anymore (thrown away afterwards), that's probably the reason why Bong Pal said she emptied his ref.
And episode highlight: Butt-grab! lol

I ve done watching ep 3 + ep 4 and here is my opinion:
1. Hyun Ji is so different from other ghost. Well I know they can't make up for her like a creepy ghost and expect us to watch the drama, but obviously she is different and everyone could see it. So the question is, is Hyun Ji really a ghost?
2. Bong Pal has a complicated background that related to not only his parents but also the monk, Ju Hye Sung professional, the ghost that his father is chasing, and the young good looking guy who is finding his father (I believe that is Ju Hye Sung as well?).
3. Assumed Ju Hye Sung can see Hyun Ji, then he is doing a brilliant job as if he is totally not seeing her. And it makes me chill thinking he saw her all the time ><
4. The scene when Bong Pal carried Hyun Ji like a princess, it made my heart flutter and Im sure Hyun Ji (So Hyun too) felt the same. Its so beautiful. Hyun Ji may fall for Bong Pal and we will see a jealous ghost too kkk
5. Hyun Ji is so adorable when she attacks Bong Pal with aegyos and her big eyes rolls at him, but I feel like crying too when she was drunk and vented all her frustrations out about being a ghost. Very good job Kim So Hyun, she is the queen for those emotional scenes!
I really enjoy this drama more and more, because at first ep I found it a little bit too cheese and messy and the story got no depth, but gradually it grew on me and now Im hooked too. Kim So Hyun again never disappoint, love her so much! Taecyon is doing a good job too, so does everyone. Hope they keep the great work going strong!

This show reminds me of a lot of things at once.
1. Hyun Ji cannot be dead, she has to be in a coma, right, right?? It will be heartbreaking if she is dead-dead. Please drama give it a nice twist like Just Like Heaven and please make sure to unite them at the end, please. Bong Pal already is very close to her, its just waiting to dive into the love territory and Kim So Hyun is so pretty, that peach dress seems to be made for her only.
2. The ghost that has special connection to Bong Pal and his family and is currently possessing the professor, anybody else get the whole yellow eyed demon from Supernatural vibe from him. Not the same or so sinister but he is haunting them with a purpose it seems.
3. The weekly case of ghost exorcism reminds me of Master's Sun, all good memories from K-drama heaven.
Also, I was skeptical about Taecyon but either he has improved or this role suits him, because I adore Bong Pal.

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!! It's just exploding with CUTE AND THAT IS MY FAVORITE THING. Sometimes there will be moments where I'm like "okay, is Taecyeon acting or just trying really hard not to laugh??" but I love his character here and his relationship with Hyun Ji is absolutely adorable. The balance between them is unreal!! And I like how everything that happens in their relationship occurs for a reason. Like he's not just buying her that dress because he "feels like it" but because she actually helped him a lot defeating those ghosts and he feels like she earned it. The age gap made me hesitate a little at first but now I feel like I can totally get on board with this pairing.
Like things actually Make Sense in this show and I am so grateful for that! And honestly Hyun Ji's whining didn't bother me so much. She's been stuck at the same maturity level for five years - she is a high schooler after all and still thinks like one. She wants to act like she's older and more mature but it's kind of impossible because she's stuck at this age and must feel lost as well since she can't remember anything. But I think it's for SURE that she's not dead which just makes me like !!!!!!!
Hyun Ji's drunk/crying scenes were so great. I almost cried when she cried! But Hye Sung is so scary. Please. How could they end the episode like that :( :( And now I'm really scared for that girl Bong Pal has a crush on. I feel like she might be in serious danger and she's interacting way too much with Hye Sung for my liking. My speculations now are either Hye Sung is a ghost who somehow found out how to appear as a human for however long or he is a human possessed by an evil ghost. And it almost seems like he's targeting Bong Pal by becoming a prof at his university when they said he always rejected prof positions before...but I don't think he intends to harm Bong Pal. It's like he just wants to find out more about something else through him. Wonder how that will develop.
MONDAY/TUESDAY CANNOT COME FAST ENOUGH AHHHhh

Despite the creepy ghosts this show has enough cute-factor to make me sleep well... it turned out to be my feel good show of the season^^... except for the kitty killing part - that ripped my heart into pieces T.T
Most of my thoughts were already posted before, I absolutely agree on Hye Sung being possessed by the evil ghost who killed Bong Pal's mother (maybe also the father since he seems to be missing?) and that Hyun Ji is somewhere in a coma.
BUT as that fact gives me hope for a happy ending.. doesn't dramaland tend to make characters lose their memories when they return from out-of-body-experiences?
And a second thought on the coincidence of the Bong Pal/ Hyun Ji meeting... what if the evil Hye Sung/ghost/whatever is somewhat also responsible for her accident?
Can't wait for the next episodes and how the ghost/human relationship evolves

Im not enjoying the show as much. Im actually really troubled by them showing kim so hyun sleeping on couch with that short pink dress and blowing wind on her skirt exposing so much of her legs and thighs. Im disturbed by the male ghost touching her thighs in the same ep. Theres a whole lolita complex to the set up hence it gives me the creeps for her close scenes with teac. It feels off and iffy. I cant help feeling a bit turned off. What they should have done more is focus on kwon yul more, the ghosts storied and do a slow build into ksh's and teac's back story. Also - get rid of the two most annoying time fillers of rang and sang and the monk. No wonder the ratings are declining.
