Woman With a Suitcase packs up and heads for MBC

It looks like new legal drama Woman With a Suitcase might be packing up and moving from tvN to MBC. Originally, the series was supposed to air on tvN in July after the weekend drama Dear My Friends finished, but it was bumped off the schedule to make room for The Good Wife when it moved to Friday-Saturday. And tvN must have filled their quota for legal dramas for the moment with Memory and The Good Wife, so they will be airing either action thriller drama K2 or time-traveling romance Tomorrow With You after The Good Wife, leading Woman With a Suitcase to look for a new home at MBC.

Legal melodrama Woman With a Suitcase will be about a charismatic and extremely competent office manager who is wrongfully framed for a crime she didn’t commit. She ends up being convicted for violating the Attorneys-at-Law Act and is sent to prison. Once she gets out, she claws her way back up to success, this time as a lawyer.

Produced by CJ E&M, this project is being written by Kwon Eun-mi who also wrote Royal Family and Gap-dong. So we can expect some well-written dark themes to be explored with unexpected twists. I’m excited to watch the revenge plot unfold when the titular woman rises from her terrible ordeal.

PD Kwon Suk-jang is helming the series, and his past works include medical drama Golden Time and romance dramas Miss Korea and Pasta, all Lee Seon-kyun dramas. It would be so awesome if PD Kwon could convince Lee to come back to dramaland. Who knows? They’re still in the middle of casting so it’s a possibility.

The Woman With a Suitcase production team is in negotiations with MBC to see if they can broadcast after current Monday-Tuesday drama Monster ends its 50-episode run in September.

I sorely miss him, too. But this sounds like a very female-centric drama so as much as I want him back on my screen I am not sure I want to see him taking a backseat to the female lead. It would be too much like Miss Korea, which I love by the way. But I am ready to see him do more with a character.

Well, I guess I wouldn't mind if that woman is a Kim Hye-soo, or Jeon Do-yeon.

'so they will be airing either action thriller drama K2 or time-traveling romance Tomorrow With You after The Good Wife, leading Woman With a Suitcase to look for a new home at MBC.'

I am confused.Does it mean we don't get to see both of the dramas? Why there is a possibility of choosing between these two? I want to see lee min ki on screen!

You'll get to see both of them, they just haven't decided in which order. K2 will air after Tomorrow With You or vice-versa. But that would mean Woman With A Suitcase would have to wait until winter to air. I assume they want it to air earlier so they moved to MBC.

Wow tvn has done so well in just 10 years. They are attracting so much talent that series that want to be shown have to skip to other stations because there's not enough time in the schedule... Sure hope the quality stays high though!

I'm a big fan of Kwon Seok-jang so I hope this works out. I know his work has limitations, but I find his style so charming and immersive that I have an easier time overlooking flaws in his dramas than in most. I like the idea of reuniting with Lee Seon-gyun (their styles mesh very well)--it's too bad Gong Hyo-jin already teamed up with the Pasta writer instead of working with him again haha.

I have a question. Is there typically a hesitation on an actor's part to keep working with the same writer/director, who instead would seek out to work with as many different teams as possible? Or is it more typical that the actor finds a team who meshes well with him/her and thus tends to work in more projects with the same people?

Idk, I guess it would depend on the actor, and the personalities involved? In some cases, a real creative partnership is established--for instance, Toshiro Mifune was Akira Kurosawa's muse for 20 years, until their personal relationship fell apart (all of the films are built around Mifune, but they're very eclectic, and Mifune later said that he was only ever proud of the work he'd done with Kurosawa). I'm guess in dramaland it'd be more about loyalty and trust than inspiration, though, considering the peculiar conditions of live shooting. There are a lot of people who only work together once and leads tend to move on after a couple projects with any one PD or writer at most, but especially once you get into supporting cast members and veteran actors, you start to associate certain faces with certain writers/directors.

Ah, even the hint of Lee Sun Kyun coming back to dramaland is oh so exciting to me!

First Kim Sun-ah, then Lee Min-Ki and now my first-(K-drama)-love Lee Sun Kyun ... I wish all these drama offers/rumours are realised!!

Choi Ji Woo has been offered the role for the lead actress and I really HOPE she accepts it. I love her and she is such a versatile actress and can do justice to the role. Please take it Ji Woo.
