SBS replaces Deal with thriller Wanted, courts Kim Hyun-joo

The writing seemed to be on the wall for melodrama Deal, which was in danger of losing its timeslot as the upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama following Entertainer. SBS has made the final decision to go with a thriller drama called The Reality Show—Wanted instead, and an offer is currently out to Kim Hyun-joo (I Have a Lover, What’s With This Family) to headline.
Wanted will be a suspense thriller about an actress whose son gets kidnapped, and in order to save him, she has to complete all sorts of tasks during a live broadcast of a reality show. Kim Hyun-joo is up to play a top actress in Chungmuro who’s acknowledged for being a box-office guarantee. But she’s described as someone who has to act even in her everyday life. When her son gets taken, she’ll stop at nothing to find him, and follows the kidnapper’s orders to go on a TV show, where she’ll complete missions at the kidnapper’s mercy while the whole country watches.
Well that sounds harrowing. I can see Kim Hyun-joo taking on the role quite easily, so she seems a natural choice. The premise reminds me a bit of God’s Gift—14 Days, minus the time warp, or even the movie The Terror Live that does a similar thing via radio and news broadcast. You’d have to condense the time and make every pulse-pounding second count, but if done well, it could really be edge-of-your-seat suspenseful.
Directing is SBS PD Park Yong-soon (Divorce Lawyer in Love), who was previously at the helm of Deal before it was on the chopping block. And writing is Han Ji-wan, who has no other credits. That might not necessarily be a bad thing; I just hope they cast at lightning speed and get started on this thing, because June isn’t that far away.
The Reality Show—Wanted will follow Entertainer in mid-June.

I loved Kim Hyun Joo in What Happens to My Family. Could not get myself to watch I Have A Lover, so hopefully this one will be less melodramatic.

It does seem sort of like Liar Game. The plot sounds thrilling and I like dramas that have actresses acting like actresses... I'll be keeping an eye out for it.

Makes me think of Black Mirror's The National Anthem episode. Where someone gets kidnapped, and the demand is that the Prime Minister has to have sex with a pig on national tv or the girl dies.
With the time restraint, SBS probably should have played safe and chose a romance drama instead. That's faster/easier to film than a thriller.

Meanwhile MBC execs... sip tea while Lucky Romance filming going on smoothly.
I think MBC have the most relaxed schedule out of big 3. Mon-Tue they still have Monster for at least 4 months, Wed-Thu already confirmed Lucky Romance, weekend a sageuk "Flower of The Prison" for another 6 months.

I'm telling you guys, while DOTS basically lucked out from empty drama period, with no strong competition around, Wed-Tus time slot is summer would be Hunger Games K-drama style. W, Uncontrollably Fond, this one, that Jealous Something one and who knows what else, overlapping each other and basically fighting for attention.

Terror Live was a great movie. Fantastic acting by Ha Jungwoo as a slimy, unlikable hero and a gripping story. Would be amazing as a play.

My favorite actress will be back! Yeah. I will watch Kim Hyun Joo in anything. Like everyone said above this is like combination of God's Gift and Liar Game, which both two are my favorite. So I will definitely watch this if KHJ confirmed. She is nominated for Baeksang Awards ( I think the category for Best actress, not really remember). But I doubt she will win as there is also SHK, since Baeksang always go for popularity, I guess SHK will win. ☺

On a separate note , so glad to see 35+ actresses getting meaty roles ! It's a good year for the viewers to see Jeon Doyeon , Kim Hyunjoo etc .. And if Lee Boyoung takes up her post baby project too
