Oh Hae-young Again: Episode 3

Though Do-kyung would like to right his wrongs, he doesn’t necessarily want Hae-young hanging around, but it’s difficult to avoid someone who could walk into your home at any moment. Things are awkward enough without having to run into the victim of your biggest mistake on a daily basis, but getting rid of her may not be the best way to handle things. Hae-young isn’t the kind to let others make her decision for her, so Do-kyung will need to find another way to settle this situation.

EPISODE 3 RECAP: “Love if you want to live”

Do-kyung steps out of the bathroom in only a towel, and is shocked to find Hae-young standing in the middle of his living room. She breathes an impressed Wow!, while he’s trying to process yet another premonition coming true.

He asks how she knows he lives here, but Hae-young quickly says that she didn’t — she just happened to move in next door, and found a hidden doorway that led into his place. Still in his towel, Do-kyung steps through into her tiny living room, and it’s Hae-young’s turn to be embarrassed at the clutter of leftover wedding gifts.

Do-kyung tells her that this used to be a storage room, which explains why such a tiny, simple place is attached to his nice spacious home. Irritated, Do-kyung goes back to his place to get dressed and call his landlord, while Hae-young brazenly takes one more peek, hee.

Later that night, Hae-young overhears Do-kyung loudly complaining about the landlord renting out his storage space without telling him, demanding she be kicked out immediately. It’s not that he objects to her personally, but he only recently learned that he accidentally caused her fiance to cancel their wedding, and he wants to avoid her finding out.

He goes inside to find her in his living room again, and informs Hae-young that they’ll go to the landlord’s office and nullify her lease. Hae-young is mystified, perfectly happy to be neighbors, but Do-kyung says that it would be too uncomfortable.

His blunt tone takes Hae-young aback, but she calls him on his rudeness. Do-kyung would let it go at that, but Hae-young asks if he somehow saw this coming when he asked before if she knew where he lives. She says that she really didn’t — it’s not like she fell for him at first sight, and moved here to be closer to him.

She keeps explaining that really, this is a total coincidence, but Do-kyung isn’t moved. Hae-young shuffles back to her place, huffing and thinking that Do-kyung thinks she’s a stalker, and hears him slide a cabinet in front of the door so she can’t let herself back in.

They go to the landlord the next day, but it looks like Do-kyung won’t be getting his way. The landlord asks if Do-kyung’s been avoiding his calls because he’s afraid he’ll be kicked out, which piques Hae-young’s interest, though Do-kyung doesn’t answer.

He offers to pay rent for the storage space apartment too if that will get Hae-young out, but the landlord starts to rant about his family and says he regrets renting to Do-kyung in the first place. His assistant tells Hae-young that Do-kyung lived in that house when he was a child, until his mother borrowed money from the landlord to produce a movie, which failed.

The landlord lost everything, and he bought their house as an investment, and rents out the top and bottom floors separately (and now, the storage unit, too). Do-kyung rents the second floor, and Hoon and Soo-kyung live downstairs.

The landlord refuses to kick Hae-young out, but he does agree to let them remodel and get rid of the door between their units. Do-kyung stalks home with Hae-young trailing behind, and he rounds on her to ask how much security deposit she paid, offering to pay her back if she’ll move out on her own.

Hae-young asks if he hates having a neighbor that much, or if he just hates her. Do-kyung just offers to pay double her deposit, which is tempting, but Hae-young is hurt and confused and more than a little annoyed. After all, he’s the one who told her to live even if it hurts, but now she wonders why he’s trying so hard to get rid of her.

Do-kyung tries the I’m a man and you’re a woman excuse, but Hae-young just asks if he’s scared they’ll sleep together. The funny part is that she doesn’t claim that will never happen, just that if it did, she certainly isn’t the kind of woman to get all clingy afterward, HA. She tells Do-kyung that if he’s that scared of her, then he can move out.

She starts to stomp off, but stops and stomps right back. She snaps that she told him the truth about her canceled wedding because she thought they’d never see each other again. So if anyone finds out that she’s not the one who ended things, she’ll know that he told. If that happens, he can expect retaliation.

Hae-young’s in a tizzy by the time she gets home, and glares at the door between their apartments as if this is all the door’s fault. She shoves a table in front of it on her side, while on his side, Do-kyung packs up some of his sound recordings and slams out.

Do-kyung goes to his therapist and tells him that he saw Hae-young in his house in a premonition, which then actually happened. He asks if he’s going crazy, but ha, the therapist fell asleep while he was talking.

The therapist rouses and asks about Do-kyung’s sleeping habits, blaming his “delusions” on not getting enough rest. But while he’s talking, Do-kyung sees a vision of the therapist suddenly screaming, and this time he says what he sees out loud before it happens. “In a few seconds, you’ll be surprised.”

And just as he predicted, a few seconds later, the therapist shrieks when he sees a pair of legs drop past his window. It’s just the window washer, thank goodness.

Do-kyung jumps up and leaves, and his therapist follows him, assuring him that all his tests are normal — he’s not crazy. He wants Do-kyung to stay so they can figure out why most of his premonitions revolve around one particular woman, but Do-kyung just keeps going.

Back at work, Do-kyung sets up his sound equipment on the roof of a building to record the noises of a crowd in the street below. He suddenly has a new vision — this time he sees Hae-young wearing a heart-shaped necklace and asking why he’s late in a sad voice, then she turns and walks away.

The real Hae-young is venting to her coworkers about her new cranky neighbor, and how he wants to kick her out. One of them asks if he’s handsome (causing Hae-young to remember those abs, ha) and says that for handsome men, it’s easier to be rude to a girl, since their standards are high. Hae-young huffs that lots of people think she’s pretty, triggering spit-takes from her female coworkers.

Do-kyung’s mom complains to a scriptwriter that the work he’s turned in to her is way too cool, and instructs him to rewrite the script, much nerdier this time. He doesn’t understand why, but she insists that nerdy movies are the thing these days.

She runs into Do-kyung on his way to work, but he’s in no mood and locks her out of his studio, heh. His employees figure she’s looking for money again, which would explain Do-kyung’s avoidance.

Hae-young goes looking for Do-kyung when the workers come to give her an estimate on blocking the door, and calls her friend Hee-ran for his number. His employee answers and takes a message, and Hoon goes pale when he hears the name Oh Hae-young, assuming it was Do-kyung’s ex-fiancee.

Angry, he grabs the phone and calls Hae-young back, but she’s confused when he talks to her as if he knows her. He screams that he and his sister are going to tear her apart if she ever contacts Do-kyung again, shocking Hae-young.

Do-kyung grabs his phone, asking who it was, and he answers when she calls again. He hangs up again when he hears that it’s his neighbor Hae-young, not his ex. Then he calmly tells Hoon that today is his day to die, hee.

Later, he remembers how his Hae-young used to sometimes get mail for a girl with her same name, and how she’d described her as dull, like a person without any color.

Do-kyung is working on some sound recordings when Hae-young arrives home that night, and her clattering and cooking noises disturb his work. He moves the cabinet from his side and comes into her place, looking adorably awkward, like he’s not sure why he’s there.

Hae-young tells him to take care of blocking the door, but he’s here to apologize for the way Hoon spoke to her today. He explains that Hoon mistook her for someone else, and also tells her that he’ll be moving out.

That sets her off again, and she asks if he really thinks she followed him here. He says that he knows she didn’t, and that this is just because of his own issues. Hae-young asks what’s so terrible about him, but Do-kyung just goes back to his side. Both of them stand staring at the door, for different reasons.

Jin-sang loses his cool when he hears that the Oh Hae-young whose life they ruined moved in next to Do-kyung. He jumps to the (wrong) conclusion that she knows everything and is deliberately there to torture Do-kyung, but Do-kyung coolly says it’s not like that, and anyway he’s moving out.

Jin-sang updates Do-kyung on Tae-jin — he’s got his first trial coming up, which will be difficult unless CEO Jang (Mom’s boyfriend) testifies. Soo-kyung staggers in dead drunk again, which is apparently a nightly occurrence, and offends both men by plopping her shoes on the table to take them off.

Hae-young calls her mother to see if she’s even curious how she’s doing. Mama Oh pretends not to care and hangs up, but the fact that she and Dad are actually right outside Hae-young’s apartment checking up on her proves the lie.

Dad rattles the doorknob to make sure the lock is secure, which is such a dad thing to do. He checks the bars on the window similarly, but they’re not so stable, and he ends up yanking them off then falling down the stairs after them, HAHAHAwhoops. Hae-young sees the damage and assumes it was a burglar, totally missing her parents cringing on the stairs not five feet away.

Do-kyung also hears the noise, and he catches Hae-young’s parents trying to sneak off with the broken window bars. Mama Oh explains who they are and that they came to check on Hae-young, while Dad hilariously slinks away and just abandons her there.

Do-kyung takes the bars and says he’ll put them back tomorrow, and Mama Oh watches him go, an appraising look on her face.

The next day, Hae-young gets a reservation reminder for lunch plans she and Tae-jin had made at a very exclusive restaurant, so she calls Hee-ran. But Hee-ran has to work, and can’t join her.

Tae-jin’s lawyer tells him that Jin-sang, Do-kyung’s lawyer, is friends with one of the lawyers in his firm, and that Jin-sang told his friend how bad he feels about Tae-jin’s case. He’d drunkenly slurred that this whole thing was a misunderstanding surrounding Hae-young, but that’s all they know. Tae-jin doesn’t know anything either, but he asks his lawyer to look into Do-kyung.

Do-kyung is surprised when he sees Hae-young leaving her house wearing the heart-shaped necklace from his latest vision. She’s dolled up to go to her reservations alone, and she remembers the day she and Tae-jin made the plans. They’d talked about how they’d be married by then, and Tae-jin had angled for some shirt-optional cuddles in bed… aww, they were so cute.

Now Hae-young can hardly choke down her food, as she sits alone with her memories.

Do-kyung is having a pretty cranky day himself, as he tries to teach a reluctant Hoon about sound directing. He closes his eyes and sighs when Hoon lets a whole scene go by without any sound cues, and growls at his brother, “Insert the sound of sunlight coming in.” Ha, poor Hoon.

After her lonely meal, Hae-young meets her old classmates for drinks, and she puts on her happy, confident persona for them again. She makes a big deal over her luxury outfit and accessories, joking that the best way to get extravagant gifts is to set a wedding date.

She claims that she got dressed up for a blind date, but that they guy wasn’t that impressive. The classmate who kept hitting on her last time is still up to his tricks, joking that he and Hae-young are meant to be, and reminds her of her embarrassing run for class president.

He’d been the one to nominate her, and since the other Oh Hae-young was also nominated, they’d been written on the board as “Pretty Oh Hae-young” and “Just Oh Hae-young.” The other Hae-young had won by a landslide, with our Hae-young only getting one vote. Now the guy who nominated her reveals that he was the one to vote for her. Hee, he’s awfully cute.

While Hae-young and her friends go dancing, her parents sit at home, Dad keeping vigil while Mama Oh sobs her heart out. She wants to go bring Hae-young home, sobbing that she can’t live without her daughter. Awww, Mom.

Do-kyung is still at work, and he has his vision again, of Hae-young dejectedly asks why he came home so late. “I thought I was going to die, waiting for you.” His vision extends as he watches her walk away and a shadowy figure follows her, unaware that Hae-young has locked herself out of the house and it right now walking down that very street.

The vision is disturbing enough that Do-kyung gets up and runs out, sensing something is truly wrong. He rushes home and arrives in time to see Hae-young walking with a dark-clad man following right on her heels. He calls out right before the man reaches her, which scares the man away, and Hae-young whirls around.

In a perfect recreation of his premonition, Hae-young looks at Do-kyung with a disappointed expression, and asks, “Why did you come home so late? I thought I was going to die, waiting for you.”

Do-kyung takes Hae-young to his place, and she huffs when she sees the cabinet in front of the door between their units. She asks if they’ve switched gender roles, ha, but he just moves the cabinet so Hae-young can get into her place. After she’s inside, he wordlessly puts the cabinet back in place.

But he can’t help hearing Hae-young struggle with her broken heater later that night, and he brings her to his place and makes her some hot tea. Hae-young wryly tells Do-kyung the story of the class president election, and how she knows the classmate who nominated her was messing with her — the one vote she got was her own.

She tells Do-kyung what he already knows, that there were two Hae-youngs at her school, and that she always felt inferior. But she always wonders, if she had the chance to be the other Hae-young, would she take it? Now she knows that she wouldn’t, she just wants to be a better version of herself.

She starts to cry, just a little, as she says, “I didn’t want to become her. I still love myself the way I am. I only want myself to do well.” Hae-young laughs at her own tears, and wonders how the other Hae-young is doing these days.

She tells Do-kyung that she’ll move out, since she knows that this is his childhood home. Do-kyung softly says that he’ll be the one to go, but Hae-young quips that that will make her feel almost like she got dumped.

But she admits that she feels like everyone is pushing her out of their lives, and that she’s tired. She wishes that just one person would tell her that it’s no big deal to be dumped the day before her wedding, looking at Do-kyung with pleading eyes.

Hae-young mistakes his silence for disinterest and calls him cold, but he says in a rough voice, “How could it be no big deal? It feels like the whole world sentenced you to death. It feels like getting kicked out of the universe. I… got dumped on the day of my wedding.”

Hae-young’s head whips around, seeing Do-kyung in a completely new light, and he shakes it off and goes to his recording equipment. He tells her to take a break and get back up, as he plays her the sound of a soothing rainfall while she cries to herself.

The next day, Hae-young bikes out to the river with an album of her and Tae-jin’s wedding photos. She looks through the album one last time, and in voice-over she says that it’s comforting to know that there’s someone else who understands her pain. She heaves the photo album into the river, finally letting go for real, and smiles as she bikes away.

I was only knocked down for a little bit… When I think about it, I’ve never given myself one hundred percent to love. I was always cautious and nervous. I worried if I liked the person more. Let’s not do that anymore. If I meet someone I like, I will love him all the way until I get dumped. I’ll never turn around crying because I was told to get lost. I’ll hold onto the man and not let go, even if I get beaten up. I’ll give it everything. Shouldn’t you fall in love once in your lifetime?

She runs into Do-kyung as he’s leaving the house, and tells him that she’s looking for places to move to today. If he’ll give her the security deposit as he offered, she’ll make it look like she’s still living here, so the landlord won’t rent it out to anyone else.

Do-kyung doesn’t say anything, but he watches as she notices that the safety bars are back on her window.

Do-kyung screens the movie he’s been working on for the production team, who’re thrilled with the final result. He rewards his team by paying for a night of drinks, but Hoon leaves to meet An-na for a date. He sneaks her into the studio to show her what he does, and even shows her how he put the sound of sunlight into a scene.

We see that Do-kyung had instructed Hoon in adding the sound of children playing, which gave the sunny scene a feeling of a bright clear day. The sound of cars passing changed the feel of the scene, and Hoon seems to suddenly understand something as he explains it to An-na.

Do-kyung listens in as Hae-young orders delivery and the delivery guy asks if she’s single. He watches the dude go down to this scooter and check his appearance in the mirror, then call his boss that he’s going home early, as he heads back up to Hae-young’s place.

He can hear Hae-young let the guy back in, thinking he’s bringing her change, and he literally flings himself through the door and into her apartment. Okay that was hilarious, rewind! He sits down at the table and starts to eat like he’s supposed to be there, glaring at the delivery guy like Why are you still here?

Once they’re alone, Hae-young smirks at Do-kyung and compliments his acting skills, and he jumps up to leave. She invites him to finish the jjajangmyun he started, but he goes back to his place.

He comes right back with some his shoes to put in front of her door, which is so sweet it makes my heart hurt. He goes back through the door, but before he does, he tells Hae-young gruffly, “Just live here. I’ll live here, too.” Yay!!

Hae-young watches him push the cabinet back in front of the door, gaping like a fish. She mutters to herself that he’s impressing her without her permission, ha.

Soo-kyung isn’t speaking French after all, or any other actual language, and Do-kyung laughs as Jin-sang yammers back at her in nonsense. He thinks about what his therapist said – not to fight his visions of Hae-young, and to think about why she might be showing up in his premonitions so often.

Right on cue, Do-kyung sees a new vision of Hae-young, but this one gives him chills. She’s saying that Pretty Oh Hae-young is back, and he sobers at the thought.

On a sunny day, Hae-young and Hee-ran drive past a marathon in progress, laughing when they spot a girl with “Oh Hae-young” on her name tag. It’s a common name, and Hae-young finds it funny, until she sees yet another “Oh Hae-young.”

She leans out to shout a “fighting!” to the girl, but everything slows down when she sees the woman’s face — it’s Pretty Hae-young. Memories of high school insecurity flood our Hae-young’s mind, as she stares at the familiar face.

COMMENTS

I’ll admit that I was wondering when Pretty Hae-young was going to show up (ugh I hate that nickname, but since the show is calling her that, I’ll do so as well to avoid confusion). I hadn’t complained because I’m loving the show as it is, but now that Do-kyung and our Hae-young have come to a sort of agreement, the timing is perfect for Pretty Hae-young to show up and create some waves. And seeing how hurt both Do-kyung and Hae-young still are about their failed relationships, I predict those waves will be tsumani-sized, at least.

But more importantly, hooray for semi-cohabitation hijinks! I think it’s fun that Do-kyung and Hae-young have found themselves reluctant neighbors, and Do-kyung’s grumpy irritation is especially fun to watch. It’s very in line with his character that he’s not angry at Hae-young, and doesn’t take his frustration out on her like so many drama heroes might (For example, it was so nice to see him politely let himself into her place the first time, then be so respectful and apologize to her). He’s just nervous that she’ll find out what he did to her and Tae-jin before he has a chance to make some things right. I get the feeling that what Hae-young thinks of him is more important to Do-kyung than even he knows — he seems almost mesmerized by her at times. I don’t think he likes her romantically, not yet, but I do think he finds something about her to be magnetic and interesting, not least of which the way she keeps showing up in his visions.

I really like Do-kyung as a character — he’s a unique kind of guy in Dramaland. He’s not loud or overbearing, or mean and rude, and when he realizes that he made a terribly, unfortunate mistake, his first instinct is to try to fix it. He’s not perfect, and in a moment of weakness and peer pressure he made a terrible, terrible decision, but in his defense, he really didn’t think things would go so far. I think his goal wasn’t even necessarily to break up Tae-jin and his fiancee (who he thought was his Hae-young), just to mess with him and give him a hard time financially. Even if Tae-jin has been marrying Do-kyung’s ex-fiancee, I don’t think Do-kyung ever meant for him to go to jail — in fact, when he heard the news, he was shocked. So of course, what Do-kyung did was awful and unforgivable, but I truly don’t believe his intention was to send Tae-jin to jail and ruin his entire life.

Because otherwise, Do-kyung is really a very gentle soul, he hardly even raises his voice. It makes him an interesting contrast to Hae-young, who is brash and bold, outspoken and opinionated, and not afraid to call it like it is. I just love Hae-young, and I want to be her when I grow up. I adore her refusal to let life get the better of her, even when she’s got everything stacked against her, and it’s so awesome how she tries to spin everything to a more positive light. Like how she told her old classmates that she didn’t get married because there are just too many men to appreciate in the world — yeah, a lot of that was bravado, but it proves that Hae-young has a core of strength and uses it to bolster herself, instead of letting bad luck get to her. She’s obviously worked hard to find her strength and sass, because the other Hae-young remembers her being dull and boring, so it’s even that much more impressive that she worked so hard to become this awesome.

I love her sassy mouth too — she says exactly what she’s thinking, things that most people wouldn’t say out loud, and screw anyone who doesn’t like it. She’s not hateful (though she can go a bit too far when she’s insulting her boss, which is definitely a downside to being outspoken), but she lets her feelings known, which makes her a perfect foil for Do-kyung and his tendency to say exactly nothing of what he’s thinking. Hae-young is the one who lets herself be vulnerable, and she somehow always finds herself telling Do-kyung the one thing she’s never told anyone else. I don’t think either of them realizes it yet, or why, but it’s telling that she feels safe enough around him to trust him with her secrets. I admire Hae-young’s spirit, and it makes me eager to see where her mouthy tendencies take her and Do-kyung as they get to know each other better.

I love this show. Dokyung is such a great character and I can't wait to see him fall in love with Hae Young.

I like him too. he may seem callous, but he's never disrespectful. and who wouldn't like the scene where he offered Hae-Young a hot drink? in other kdramas, it takes time, a lot of courage, and justifications before the "cold machismo hero" shows little acts of kindness. I love that Do-Kyung doesn't have to have any reason than to help - someone in need (and without malice!) his character's a gem.

I'm not so in love with him right now. Yes, he is a good guy who didn't think things would go this far, but they did. In my book a real man steps up to the plate, admits his mistake, begs for forgiveness, and THEN tries everything to correct the situation. But of course, there would be no drama if he did that. In the meantime he is trying to fix things, but it also seems like he'll end up with the girl. If I was that fiancé I would seriously hurt him.

I'm with you in that I'm not in the swooning phase for Do kyung yet because it seems that Tae Jin really liked OUR Oh Hae Young, and I'm made that they were torn apart.

My big question is how it is possible that Oh Hae Young doesn't know that her fiancé is in jail? Not just her. Her family? Her nosy neighbors? Her friends? It just doesn't make sense to me. She got word from his friend that he was doing okay, but didn't bother to actually "stalk" him? Being locked him for financial fraud seems like a big deal. It just feels like a major plot hole.

Agreed. Seems to me that someone should have said something to her. It is a pretty big secret to hide. Also, I'm with you on the Tae Jin really liking Oh Hae Young. Doesn't seem fair that he had suffered so much and (apparently) will also have his fiancé taken from him. I wonder how the drama will solve this dilemma.

We don't know how good Tae Jin yet. Jin Sang once told Do Kyung that Tae Jin has something to do with unclean business.

And be rational, how can just because Do Kyung take out his investment make him to jail? I'm sure Han Tae Jin did something wrong.

no matter how dirty Tae jin bussiness is, he'll get caught for fair reason later, not get tangled up and get down bc one jealous guy asked his biggest investor- that basically the ultimate money source- to pull out for no business reason.

Tae-jin will be in dirty mode, I saw the writer doing that but his business doesn't involve do kyung Even if Tae jin is dirty businessman that didn't negate that do kyung wants the other guy he doesn't knew to suffer financially just bc he thinks his girl is cheating.

Tae-jin and hae young need their own resolution without do kyung as much as tae jin needs his fair treatment without involving hae young, I just don't like how this show pushed do kyung and hae young as this cute, nice, has too root couple but forget that he didn't feel sorry for ruining someone hard work even before knowing that he missed the shot.

TJ made the choice for her, didn't even bother to give her the right to make her own decisions. Added to that he told her that he hates the sight of her eating. This is the meanest thing a boy can told his girlfriend while braking up with her. I think aside from the jail thing he deserves what happens to him with his relationship to OHY because he made that decision him self.

I get what you're saying, but I think that the issue is that, even if he wanted to confess, he actually can't. Technically, it's not his place to reveal what is going on now that Tae-jin has decided how he wants to handle the situation he's been put in.

Tae-jin chose to break up with Hae-young because he didn't want her to see him in jail or as pathetic. That hasn't changed. I don't really think Do-kyung can just meddle in their relationship or make a choice like that for Tae-jin, since he should follow his primary victim's wishes first and foremost. I'm not saying that he wants to confess, but I'm sure he would if Tae-jin asked it of him and that he might actually feel a lot better if he did that.

Unfortunately, Do-kyung's in a position where he can't really do all that much to 'right' his wrongs except do whatever's necessary to help get Tae-jin out of jail. I'm hoping to see him appeal to Tae-jin once he gets out about what he'd like him to do to make amends.

I do enjoy the leads together too. I think they compliment each other well and Hae Young is one that can pull Do-kyung out of his shell and the funk he has been in the last year. I will admit, though, that when we saw the scenes with Hae Young and Tae-jin, it made me sad because they were so happy together. I think the show has been careful not to show us too many of these types of scenes so we continue to see Do-kyung in a good light. It might be harder to do so if we are constantly reminded that both Tae-jin and Hae Young were so happy once and that Do-kyung is the reason they are not any longer.

Been waiting for the recap! Thanks, LollyPip!

This show is my newest addiction. I haven't been hooked on a drama I've watched as it aired (last one I dutifully watched every week as it aired dutifully was Remember - Son's War), and haven't been majorly hooked on a drama in general since Signal. (I marathoned Signal after it aired, thank god. I don't think I would have survived watching it live, week by week).

What I love about Oh Hae-young Again is its incredibly colorful, fresh, and relatable characters. The humor and heart is spot-on, too. The entire cast, PD, and writer are new to me, so I have no idea what to expect going forward, but so far (coming off of watching episode 4) I am loving everything. I love Hae-young, Do-kyung, Do-kyung's crazy siblings and his best friend, and Hae-young's parents. (Kim Mi-kyung as mama Oh gives me life. Lol) I can foresee some terribly awkward (awkwardly delicious?) situations concerning the two Hae-youngs, and I'm definitely looking forward to when the romance kicks in because Hae-young and Do-kyung have major chemistry. They feel so comfortable together and bounce off each other well.

Gah. I'm in love with this show. I look forward to Mondays now. And, slightly off-topic, I'll be watching a drama practically every night because of keeping up with Oh Hae-young Again (Mon-Tue), Entertainer (Wed-Thu), and the upcoming Beautiful Gong-shim (Sat-Sun, I think). Also totally looking forward to Lucky Romance in two weeks. Whoa! May/June 2016 is looking pretty great, if all these shows continue to get better every week and don't take us on any weird plot spins like Cheese in the Trap. (Sorry, still not over that disappointing ending.)

OMG I am in LOVE with this drama right now. I love the character of regular OHY and Dokyung. I personally feel like this is a pretty different and newer concept/story of a kdrama than those other cliche kdramas that you know the whole story from the beginning(not saying those other kdramas are bad, i love them too). I LOVE IT <3

Strangely enough, I figure Oh Hae Young had always had that sassy, spine of steel, unique and quirky side, even in high school. It just wasn't something anybody but her her friends got to see, which made me feel... uncomfortable at pretty Oh Hae Young's dismissal of her as being 'bland'. A popular person's description of a supposed 'wallflower' can never be taken seriously because even though the wallflower only blossoms in the presence of those he or she is close to, said popular person is never in the wallflower's circle and can never be such a judge.

Personally, as a book lover and a member of the book club when I was back in school, I know that anybody who loves books cannot be without color. We take in those experiences from the pages and they brighten our lives and give us depth. So bland and dull are not words I would use to describe Oh Hae Young. They're not words Hee-Ran would use to describe Oh Hae Young. They're not words Do Kyung would use to describe Oh Hae Young. Even her colleagues and her boss wouldn't use those words to describe her. Why? Because they got to look beneath the surface. And I do hope Oh Hae Young doesn't let pretty Oh Hae Young and her limited opinion of her bring her newly restored confidence down. Because if I was to choose between the perfect pretty girl, and the gorgeous, sassy, quirky, funny, confident, wounded, smart-mouthed, strong woman that Oh Hae Young is, it's not going to even be a contest. Oh Hae Young for the win!

That's what I think, too.

But then it begs the question: "Why would she lose on purpose to No Hae Young?" She's not the type of person to be afraid of the backlash.

Required fields are marked *

She doesn't lose on purpose to the other Hae Young.

It's just that so many people around her look up to the other HaeYoung so much, and make fun of OUR Hae Young in relation to the other HaeYoung that it has affected her. It's like she's transparent when the other HaeYoung comes around and she's taken that as obvious and to be expected/ correct that she just wilts when the other HaeYoung comes around.

I mean, my name is quite similar to a famous actress from my country and twice, I've seen boys/men show their apparent disappointment when I come around right after seeing their excitement when hearing what they thought was the actresses' name and it kinda hurts (or could've, if I actually cared). At least I can roll my eyes and snark at them for their bad hearing but HaeYoung can't even do that.

Required fields are marked *

I don't think she lost because she was afraid of the backlash. She lost because most of the crowd was cheering for pretty Oh Hae Young and she wanted her to have that moment without her hating pretty Oh Hae Young. At that point, I think what she was thinking was 'what's the point? Why even bother? There're more important things for me to focus on than making sure to beat pretty Oh Hae Young at the track meet. Besides, what's beating her going to accomplish anyway?' I think that's what was going through her mind. She had her sassy, quirky spine of steel self in school, but she was also insecure because of what years of being compared and found wanting had done to her. It's why I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she wouldn't sink back down that hole now that the person who reminds her most of that time is coming back into the picture.

Yeah, that's the thing. She was thinking, "what's the point?"

That's the problem.

Required fields are marked *

That's reasonable, but generally the obvious reaction to being outcast is to carve your own niche.

I think she's already sassy, yes, but there's also a deep seated insecurity in place. That's why she was so desperate to get ahead via marriage.

I think part of it is that the other Oh Hae Young got all the attention because she was prettier. It's obvious from the names their classmates gave them "Pretty Oh Hae Young" and "Only Oh Hae Young". She may have been just as awesome back then as she is now, but because the OHY was prettier, she got all the attention and our OHY got sidelined. I know personally what it's like to hide yourself away because you don't fit society's idea of outer "perfection" and I felt more able to be myself once I was comfortable with how I looked and surrounded myself with people who would look past the outside. I think our OHY may have gone through the same thing a bit.

It's not that Tae Jin is a dirty businessman who doesn't deserve love, it's that Tae Jin chose to break up with Hae Young over a stupid reason.

0

@kuromitsu
just bc he back out once, he suddenly can't get back to her?
it wasn't all stupid, suddenly tae jin can't have a flaw in the relationship for hae young?

I like how people easily dismiss Tae-jin situation bc he chooses it so he deserves it, every bit if its,
while he might be in great distress after fail big time with no apparent reason, afraid of commitment that would bring harm to their family since he is the blank situation of how to fix it all, he chooses to sacrifice himself that he still needs to lose her too,

but it's okay for stress do Kyung to begged biggest investor to pull out for no reason, get new love and get another chance because he "apparently" is a good "business" man, male lead and now a love interest.

If do kyung deserve a 2nd chance, tae jin also deserve to cut bit of slack because he sacrifice himself for what he thinks a better future when he is in the deep failure.
he doesn't deserve the relationship bc he fail once?
there's no exception there?
so how does do kyung deserve forgiveness bc he failed people once?

0

What I'm going to say is, the one that make Tae Jin got into jail was not Do Kyung but Tae Jin, himself. Of course Do Kyung and Jin Sang did something stupid about investment. But it doesn't enough to send him to the prison. Tae Jin must did something big enough to send him to jail.

Does anyone feel that Tae-jin possibly had some shady deals? Do-kyung's action ruined Tae-jin financially, but I strongly doubt it resulted imprisonment.

Finally, a new crack drama! It's been a while since I have watched a drama that is just so good. I feel like lately the dramas have been too serious and quiet. Well, except DoTS and Marriage Contract which were good but not my crack. But this one is. It has been a while since I have loved a drama so quickly. Ooh. It's awesome that feeling. Although it sucks to have to wait every week for only two episodes.. But I don't wanna marathon it, I wanna watch now! Love love love the characters, especially the two leads. She is just freakin awesome. So sassy and strong. And he is so sweet, he is like a huge marshmallow waiting to come back, happy, caring and fun!! Can't wait till that happens!!

I love her bravery to say out loud, at least to one person, that she voted for herself during that voting for class president. It is one thing to do it, and another to speak about it. That is the kind of vulnerability (and ironically, a strength as well) that I always find lovable in a heroine. I love OUR Oh Hae-young ♥

this drama just keeps getting better.

I love that first scene, how Do Kyung's voice was so calm even though we all know he's internally going crazy as another one of his premonitions came true.

Do Kyung and Hae Young's interactions are the best scenes in this episode, and kudos to both actors for making us love them. You could see the guilt on Do Kyung's face every time Hae Young talks about his past. My heart breaks. He deserves the guilt and more, and I don't need to see the future to know that his life is going to suck reaaaal soon. Speaking of visions, I'm curious why he only sees visions of HIS future.

When I saw Tae Jin and Hae Young's past, it reminded me that they could have had a good marriage if not for Do Kyung's accidental revenge. A good boring marriage, yes. But a good one.

I love love love Just Oh Hae Young, and what she said about now wanting to be the other OHY but just being the better version of herself is so touching. Because isn't that what most of us wish for?

"Because otherwise, Do-kyung is really a very gentle soul, he hardly even raises his voice."

What about those verbal abuses he hurled at Hoon and his other subordinates then? Hehe. But yeah, those boys really deserve some yelling at. Especially Hoon.

I'm amazed at Haeyoung's reaction when the guy brought up about the past. If I am Haeyoung, I would have punched the guy in the face for lying that he's the only who voted for me. What's more shocking is that even Haeyoung's friend who sit beside her (the one in braided hair) didn't even vote for her. But I understand that all Haeyoung wants right now is to feel included in this circle of friends, because she was never given this many attention before.

I realized that Haeyoung has a bit of a depression, more so after being heartbroken. So she becomes louder and bolder in front of others. That's kinda sad, but I am glad that she can at least be real in front of one person in this world, which is Dokyung.

This is the first time we were shown how madly in love Tae Jin and Haeyoung were. I thought their relationship was not as good, since she was quick to accept the fact that she's been dumped, and since everytime Haeyoung recalls her memory of Taejin in earlier episodes, it was how he'd dumped her. In contrast, everytime Dokyung recalls his ex, they were the most happiest moments in his life.

Oh. My. God. I fall in love with this show. Seriously. How can it be??

I love the story, I love all the quirky characters (I know Do-kyung and Jin-sang did something really terrible, but so far I still like the way the writer handles that), and I especially love the smooth tonal shift. There were several scene where at first they went all thoughtful and then changed to humour and then at some point changed back again into thoughtful tone. And I didn't feel any backlash. Now they only need to make sure they didn't write pretty Oh Hae-young as the usual hateful-one-dimensional second lead female character and everything will be great.

I never know where it's going. I do feel for Hae Young every time she's down. And wonder how to ship her with Do Kyung. But he's growing on me.

But the minor characters crack me up. I spent 3 episodes waiting for her mother to brain her with a thrown object. Then the other half of the time marveling at the actress playing DK's older sister. The way she just chugs the water down. I keep waiting for her to throw up. Wow hope there wasn't any NGs during those takes.

Everyone here is a marvel, but goodness Seo hyun jin is just owning this role. I looked at past articles about actresses who were offered the role first. It seems impossible that anyone but her could be this awesome Oh Hae Young.

Every episode has been filled with such wonderful moments. My two favorites this round: Daddy Oh skittering away and leaving his wife when things got dicey, and Hae Young saying she loves herself and doesn't want to be anyone else. That brought tears to my eyes.

Thank you show for being so wonderfully smart, funny and deep. We all know it isn't easy.

Frankly I'm surprised no one has mentioned that by the end of the 3rd episode Do Kyung has essentially saved Hae Young 3 times.
1) He stopped her from stepping into a busy street right after she confessed to him about being dumped a day before her wedding.
2) He foresaw the suspicious guy following her and scared him off. That was a real stalker, someone she knows. Go back and re-watch. You can clearly see who it is.
3) He scared off the creepy delivery guy who god only knows what he was intending to do.

Along with the funny scenes with her boss and the neighborhood watch ladies escorting women to their homes there is a definite undercurrent of danger in the streets for the women in the show.

On a serious note, I think the show is pointing out some of the ways women can be oblivious to the dangers around them. And they are illustrating several safety tips. Putting a pair of men's shoes out is a good trick. Checking security bars and changing the lock (ep 4) Using a neighborhood escort service to get home safely. Wow they embedded a whole public service announcement within this episode.
Hae Young needs a little extra help because she has never lived on her own. It a good thing there are people looking out for her.

I actually really appreciate that this started out with some heartbreaking break ups. It feels like a break up drama. I like how the post break up healing process is shown and is taking place at a good pace with Seo Hyun Jin being so good at hitting that balance between comedy and melancholy. Her break up healing process takes place whilst she continues to go about her daily business, and it's in the quieter moments where we see the hurt she's experiencing.
There is a real melancholy to her character, which isn't overplayed by Seo and so doesn't feel unnatural as she goes back and forth from her more light hearted moments. I think that's difficult to achieve but Seo is so good at this.
I like the camaraderie between her and Dokyung that's developing - it doesn't feel like the progression to romance between her and Dokyung feels unnatural. In many ways, I was actually hoping that in the event Dokyung fixed his mistakes and TaeJin came out, I kind of wished, perhaps hopelessly, that she and Tae Jin would be able to work through what happened, that misunderstanding. They were sweet and we could see how much they appreciated each other's company through the flashbacks that I imagine the future Hae young and Tae Jin could've had.
But I admit, the camaraderie that's developing feels natural (though there is an irony to it - Tae Jin having been the source of the break up, and yet the only person that could, from his own experience, adequately know what Hae young is feeling) and I like the pace of their relationship. The romance isn't being pushed onto them - yes, there is the whole living next door to each other - but so far there's a slower pace to their relationship building (that doesn't feel like romance yet tbh) and I really appreciate that.
I also really appreciate that the other Oh Hae Young has appeared. She is the source of much hurt for both Hae young and Do kyung, unintentionally for Hae young and perhaps for Do kyung too... But Hae young (Seo) still hasn't been able to feel completely free from the trappings and comparisons that are made from the other Hae young and I think it's one thing she needed to fully overcome to be happier. I think she doesn't hate the other Hae young - I don't think us viewers are meant to hate the other Hae young.
Do kyung too is in the process of healing from his break up with her - I think the other Hae young is necessary for their growth.
But also, I wouldn't want to think the other Hae young is simply a plot device to allow the main characters to grow and get over past hurts. I'm interested in her story too. What's the melancholy that was exuded from her, why did she break up with Do kyung, what kind of person is she really. All we've seen of her is how the other students adored her. We've seen flashbacks of instances between Do kyung and her. But we don't know her and I think that does make me curious about her.
I do wonder what role Tae Jin might play also.
All in all,...

.. really enjoying this drama.

tl,dr: I like that this started out as a break up drama showing the hurt from break ups. I like the camaraderie that's developing between Hae young and Do kyung (despite the irony of it all) that doesn't feel like a romance is being pushed onto them and more about them getting to know each other and helping each other up from their hurts. I'm interested in the other Oh Hae young's story, who she is as a person as all we've seen of her is through flashbacks of secondary viewpoints. All in all, really great drama. Oh and Seo Hyun Jin is brilliant.

Man, I thought that reunion guy was kinda decent until it came out that even though he nominated Hae Young for class president, he didn't actually vote for her! What a punk. He just was messing with her. She voted for herself. :(

Do Kyung's fling into Hae Young's apt was freaking funny!!

I've really been loving this show. The characters are so interesting. They feel real. And the plot doesn't have the typical chaebol/makjang stuff.

If you're talking about the song when Do Kyung sees Hae Young in the crowd on the street it's "Uneasy Romance" by Echae En Route (이채언루트)

Not to put to fine a point on it but....regular Oh Hae young is way better looking than "pretty" Oh Hae young. "Pretty Oh Hae young" has a massive set of big fake veneers and she's way too thin.

Haha, I went to sleep and, by the time I woke, the recap is up and already 90 comments?! Wow. Yay, for Oh Hae Young Again! I'm guessing I'm not the only one who considers this show my new crack?

I love how 'right' Do-kyung's and Hae-young's moments together feel despite all that's 'wrong' between them. There is such a compelling, undeniable pull to their relationship that really does make it feel like it can't be avoided. I'm getting that giddy feeling I get whenever I feel ridiculously nervous and excited over how things are going to unfold. The characters here are strongly defined, in that, I have faith that they are going to take me to great places in this story. That is such a lovely feeling and I only hope I'm right.

I really don't think I've ever found a character as similar to myself as Oh Hae Young, just in the way she always cuts through the BS. Her words to Eric towards the end of this episode resonated with me especially. I think many of us have had moments when we feel shunted aside because someone more "appealing" to the majority is in the spotlight. Not many of us have to suffer the direct shame of being actively compared to someone with our own name (for all our high school years, no less!), but I think that the writer is using Oh Hae Young's more exaggerated situation to tap into something pretty universal: the idea that, rather than wanting to become that well-loved person, most people are just struggling to find ways of showing that they are equally deserving of love and interest. Not by changing themselves, but by growing into the traits that really make them shine. In Hae-young's case, her frankness and hilarity, her spunk and spirit, all make her someone worth knowing. And, even if the majority of the people in her life don't see that, we, the audience, and Do-kyung do :)

I love the way you describe the giddy nervousness that takes over when you're anticipating what's coming next. This feeling is why Oh Hae Young Again is my current kdrama addiction.

While I don't see my personality as similar to (Our) Oh Hae Young's, I absolutely feel that I have often been invisible, dismissed and misunderstood by others more popular or socially confident than I am. To see that emotional pain captured so beautifully is one of the things I appreciate about this show. How can the writing, acting and directing come together so perfectly to capture all of this? It's amazing!

Very well said. It's truly a piece of life story that drew me in. Of course, the romance is cute too. It reminds me a bit of Soulmate, but a more sophisticated/modern version without too much hoopla on the "meant to be" part.

I just want to say that she really speaks french, although it's not very well pronounced.
I'm a native french speaker and I recall she said some lines from a famous french song.

I'm really enjoying a drama where i don't feel like fast forwarding any scene. And i love the lead actress, her voice so perfect for the narrative. The character so mature and fun at the same time. Even the lead male characteristics are real and and so in sync with hers. She needs to vent out and found him..the perfect listener.
I also believe that she doesn't tell him everything because she thought hes a perfect stranger and will never meet him again but i think he gives the vibe of the perfect listener. There are few but people like that in this world who are listeners and people gravitate towards them telling their woes.
