Name That Drama: Death and general douchery

As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.

  1. Why do they always go for the shins

I watched this a few years ago, but probably not too long ago. I think it was a family drama with a looot of characters, but I really only remember one storyline, about a son who was a plastic surgeon(?). He had a slightly douchey vibe and had a thing with another doctor that worked in the same building or something. She was a bit older than him, and I think fairly well off? She was funny, really blunt, kind of crass, and had a habit of kicking his shins for insubordination/general douchery.

  2. Well, we can rule out one thing

Please help me find this movie!! I think I watched it around the early 2000s, but I was young then, so I don’t remember much. It had a human body, and a ghost girl. The b oy was asking the ghost girl to help him make this human girl fall in love with him. I think the ghost liked him, but she agreed anyway and there was this piano scene. It’s definitely not Secret with Jay Chou. The ending might have been sad. Anyway, I have been trying to find this movie for so long! Thank you so much!

  3. This was before Uber

Please help—this show has been bugging me and this is my second attempt to try and get this answered. I remember very little of this show, but I watched it on DVD in 2007, so it would have come out earlier than that. It was definitely a Korean drama, and what little I do recall is that there was a girl who had a part-time job as a hired driver. I think this was a second or third job, of course.

I think she ends up having to pick up the guy that is, of course, the love interest and probably rich. He was with another girl in the car, and it was awkward. The only other thing that I think was part of the show was the use of the song “Remind Me,” aka the song in the Geico commercial in the airport. At least, I’m pretty sure that’s what it was. I hope that’s enough info for someone to identify this show, I’d love to know! Thanks!

  4. What are the odds

I can’t remember the name of this Korean drama. I can briefly remember what it was about though: (1) a girl who lives in a poor family and has a sick father, (2) she agrees to have a baby and then give it up for adoption to a wealthy family, (3) later in life she falls in love with a guy, (4) she marries him, (5) the family is wealthy and her husband has a married older brother, (5) his brother has a child, however the child isn’t their biological son, (6) she finds out that her nephew is actually the baby she gave up for adoption years ago.

  5. If I had a nickel for every time I heard “and then he dies”

Okay, I recently watched an episode of a drama this year, but I don’t know if it came out in 2016. There’s a pregnant woman, and her husband goes off to war and he dies. I think she tells the story of how she raised her child alone? I think they got married at a young age (eloped, maybe)? I want to continue watching it, but I can’t seem to remember anything else. Help! 🙂

  6. Mother’s Day must be a dour affair in dramaland

Oh my gosh, this is bothering me so much. I can’t remember what drama this is.

All I know is that the main male lead’s mother didn’t agree with the main couple’s relationship and didn’t want to be a part of their lives. The main couple has a child at the end, and they bring him to the mom’s house to visit. They wait outside, and she comes out and only wants to see the child. She barely acknowledges the main couple. I think the mom’s house had a really big gate outside of it? After the child goes with the mom, the main couple walk away, and they were happy to be together.

That’s all I remember. I know that’s so vague, but it’s driving me crazy. Thanks for any help you can give!

  7. This is a pretty dark edition of Name That Drama, I’m coming to realize

I’ve been trying to figure this out for years now. If you know what drama this comes from, let me know, I’d really appreciate it!

A boy and a girl were childhood friends. They boy promises to help her find her father one day. The grow up and go separate ways; he grows up to be an assassin. One day he’s given a mission to assassinate this old man (a leader or otherwise important person). He shoots the man and realizes it was the father of the girl he promised to help find, as he realizes it is her that is next to the man.

  8. Okay, this one’s a bit lighter

Hi guys! I’ve been following your website for a long time now, and I really enjoy reading the drama reviews and recaps! I just finished watching Answer Me 1997 now, and because of it, I found a song that had been stuck in my head for a long time: “Miracle” by Kim Dong-ryul and Lee So-eun.

I was wondering if you could help me remember in which drama did the leads sing this song, possibly in a karaoke bar? That was the first time I heard that song, but no matter how much I try to remember, I can’t recall the name of the drama! Hope you guys can help me find it! Anyway, keep up the great job guys! Hwaiting!

  9. And we’re back to death and despair

I’ve seen this drama before. I forgot the period it took place, but I do remember two sisters and an expectant mom. The dad just died in a fire, and the mom dies giving birth to their third daughter. Can someone name this drama? Thanks.

  10. But Bummie makes it all seem better

Hey! Here I am once again, requesting help to identify a drama. I was taking the subway, and the guy sitting beside me was watching this drama on his phone. I got interested, and now want to find out what he was watching. It had Kim Bum with long hair and also possibly starred Lee Tae-hwan, I’m not sure. Also, I’m pretty sure it was a JTBC show.

I only saw a bit of it. Kim Bum was talking tot his guy who is something like a carpenter(?), and the next moment, they are having a fight out in a field. That’s all I caught, but it looked intense. I really appreciate any help!

Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

#6 sounds like the ending to Secret Garden.

Five years later, they have three kids, and Ah-young’s dream comes true, as the couple takes the kids to Grandma’s house for a visit. There, outside the big gate, the kids cry that Mom won’t get them some new toy. Ra-im remembers the dream, and laughs that it really did come true.

Grandma comes out to greet the kids warmly, but coldly ignores Joo-won and Ra-im, making sure the gate shuts firmly behind her. Joo-won says in voiceover that his mother really was true to her word. They expected that time would change her, but she’s remained as firm as ever.

Oh, yeah! You're right. I guess i skipped the 2007 sentence. Now I'm curious. ?

Required fields are marked *

It does sound like it, but city Hunter was a 2011 drama, but they said they watched it in 2007.

Required fields are marked *

I thought same, but the release years don't match.

Required fields are marked *

I thought #3 was City Hunter, too, but it could also be Heirs? At any rate, I'm pretty sure the driver is one of the Parks, either Shin-hye or Min-Young. With, naturally, Lee Min-Ho as the common denominator.

if they watched it in 2007 it couldn't have been city hunter OR heirs

Had to look it up as the incomplete memory was nagging me. Episode 2 of City Hunter- the meet-cute scene even though they don't introduce themselves. She is the designated driver who meets him outside a nightclub. He is romancing a woman for info. She gets annoyed that they are making out in the backseat and pulls over to walk away from the job. Kim Nana- my favorite combination of cute and tough.

Hi guys. I didnt read the open thread. But if the key word is "healing spider web" im pretty sure it was Shine or Go Crazy with Jang Hyuk and Oh Yeon Seo. It was too weird that i can easily remember by that one clue alone. ;D

#8 = "The Miracle" was sung by Joo Sang Wook and Kim Gyu Ri in the drama "Cunning Single Lady." The Kim Dong Ryul-Lee So Eun original was featured in the movie "Somewhere in Time."

The comments section also say they searched that MV because of Cunning Single Lady. Confirmed?

Yup, that was Yoo Ji Tae in 1998 when he was still a runway model. And I made an oops: the MV was BASED ON, not featured, in the movie "Somewhere in Time."

Still waiting impatiently for a DB Comments Edit Button. *hmpf*

This is a bit of a stretch, but could number 3 be What Happened in Bali? It came out in 2004, and the female lead is a tour guide in the beginning of the drama and ends up having to drive both male leads and the second female lead around.
