Drama viewership ratings for the week of Apr. 25–May 1, 2016

There were a couple new premieres this week, most of them taking place in the weekday primetime slots. The somewhat hilariously named Master—God of Noodle got off to a decent start with 7.6%, though it can’t bode well for the show to have dropped an entire point for its second episode. Still, there’s hope for it yet, with such a strong cast and revenge-y premise (plus, it’s not like it’s the most ridiculously named show to have existed).

Entertainer is still performing solidly, and even rose an entire point between its third and fourth episodes. What’s interesting about Entertainer is that they aired a rebroadcast of the first episode in light of all the negative criticism, in a bid to make the hero seem much more likable. Do-overs in dramaland sound like they shouldn’t be a thing, but it certainly seems to have helped(?).

Over on the weekend, Flower in Prison premiered to a very strong start, and at 17.3% for only its first episode, seems poised to rival current juggernaut Five Kids. I’ll be interested to see if it does—the premise is an interesting one, the director is much-beloved, and Go Soo is an absolute powerhouse. Maybe his costar will even be up to par. (Or is that too optimistic?)

Dramafever had a news post where they showed the added scenes with English subs. Here's the link:

https://www.dramafever.com/news/watch-the-directors-cut-of-episode-1-of-the-entertainer-/

I don't know of any place to watch the "directors cut" reedited episodes online with subs.

If the re-edit was simply to make Ji Sung's character more likeable - that was weak.

Like the fact that Seok-ho was a slick and a bit conceited music industry exec.

What would be the point of his character going through growth and redemption if he didn't have far to go from the start?

Actually liked the rascally part of his character - made things more interesting. Too much nice is boring,

Ugh, what is it with viewers and not wanting characters who have flaws or personality quirks?

LOL. They do but yeah it wasn't as hype as when DotS aired in the point they must watch the actual broadcast time to follow the story. I think they still do watch re-broadcast or online streaming @ each TV station website.

If they are like me, they probably stopped. This is the worst period of Kdramas (imo) in a long time :(, none of the currently airing dramas from Monday - Sunday have a must watch feel. They are all moderate to mediocre at best. I find myself watching dramas from other countries, and even going back to USA dramas, which I had stopped watching for a while.

Same. No current dramas give me must-watch sensation. Even Entertainer couldn't keep me interested. However second half of 2016 has very promising list of dramas.

I am patiently waiting for 'Lucky Romance' and 'Lightly,Ardently' as of now.

Wait, an Entertainer rebroadcast that was different? Like, they edited it? Within a week?

DAMN IT, WHERE IS OUR ALTERNATE CHEESE IN THE TRAP EPISODE VERSIONS????

You've had plenty of time, drama land. If entertainer can do it in a week, you can do it in several months. Fix this. Stat.

They just "edited" the drama video. However, the story line is still same, there's no re-filming for that. Directing and editing for CITT was good but the story line messed up from ep 13 on wards (in my opinion, there's someone who claim from ep 9 and from ep 11 too) so there's no use to 'just' edited the video, they must re-wrote the story line, re-film the scene and edit the whole episodes (in other words to replace the 4 last episodes with new episodes).

But Cheese was mostly pre-produced. And the complaints were that many of Yoo Jung's scenes were cut during the editing to enlarge Baek In Ho's presence. So at least edit those back in for us, dramaland. No reshooting necessary. Just give us a less confusing story.

I'm also curious about the edited version of Entertainer's first episode. Anyone watched it and can tell what they've changed? This just sounds so strange to me that they would edit an episode right after it aired couple days ago.

Maybe it wasn't a good idea airing it right after an intense, emotional (and I guess somewhat depressing) show like Signal. I don't know, just a theory. I'm hearing its really good from those who are following it though.

Sad plot isn't everyone's palette. I am not watching that drama because I don't want extra headache over my already exisiting headaches about exam.

Most korean households watch dramas that gives, thrill, escapism, nostalgia. (those are the ones that bring high ratings).

As for, Memory.... hm....... too heavy to digest.

I liked Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho but the case of the childcare center was too unrealistic. How could the children been fed such terrible food more than infrequently without getting into worse health conditions and how did their parents missed it altogether? If cost cutting was the motive, why did the center looked well run in other aspects? I enjoyed the earlier cases. Although some things didn't add up but at least they were still easy to ignore.

I missed cleverer writing, like that from Pied Piper.

Is Master-God of Noodle good? I am wondering at the sudden drop ratings for 2nd episode.

God of noodles is good and there is a lot of noodles in it. As promised it's about revenge for a murder and stolen noodle recipe. It's smooth to watch. Its worth a try.

Thank you @Rj and @Diana. I just watched the 1st episode and I like it :) I am intrigued to see what happens next. I don't get why the rating dropped. Hope it continues to be good.

Entertainer is just not my cup of tea and I dropped GMB a while back. It's too early to tell but contrast to GMB which is also a tale of revenge, Master-God of Noodle seems smoother and easier to swallow. Hoping to slurp down more hearty bowls of noodles in the coming weeks.

Yeah, I find the ratings drop for Master-God of Noodle to be a shame simply because, if we're going on first episodes alone, it's by far the better drama in the Wed-Thurs slot. Not that Entertainer doesn't have some good things going for it, I'm just not as into it as I was hoping. And, well, as for GMB, I still enjoy watching that for the "fun" of it, but that's about it.

The initial episode for Noodle was especially riveting so I don't think we can take the ratings drop as an indication of quality here. I know I'll be tuning in for more revenge & noodles!

I agree with you that the writer for Neighbourhood lawyer aims for feel good underdog triumphs over the corrupt and powerful with very simplistic and unrealistic storylines. Which is why they were smart to cast Park Shin Yang cos he can pull it off and make the show somewhat fun to watch.

I agree, Park Shin Yang pulls it off. His character has already done a lot of crazy stuff, I just hope they don't go overboard.

I do not know how the system works but shouldn't there be someone or some editing of the material to make sure unrealistic parts or logic lapses get minimized? I find it baffling that we as viewers can see these flaws and yet the writer or the writing team totally missed them.

I think that Entertainer might soon become a leader of Wednesday - Thursday primetime drama slot. People seem to hate it or love it, but more and more are tuning in to watch it, from a little more than 6.5 in its first episode to more than 8 this week.

I love it, so I'm happy that it's rising. :)

Does anyone know where I can watch the re-aired version of Entertainer? I am happy it is finally picking up.

And what did this mean: "Master—God of Noodle got off to a decent start with 7.6%, though it can’t bode well for the show to have dropped an entire point for its second episode."

Somebody explain in simple english please.

I think it means that 1% drop in the second episode isn't a good future prediction.

It went from 7.6% in Wednesday, to 6.5% on Thursday. This means 1 out of 6 people who watched the first episode skipped the second episode, so they probably didn't like it.

CON: Cartoonish villains. You may have to turn your brain off for some of the situations.
PRO: Fun underdog stories. Fun (and funny) cast, especially our main team and Deul-Ho's daughter. Park Shin-Yang and Kang So-Ra are their usual likable selves. The second leads can be aggravating but are understandable.

I really like it and regret not watching it from day one, so I recommend it, but YMMV.

I just watched the additional Entertainer scenes. We were told these scenes were added to make us more sympathetic to Ji Sung's character. I do not see these helping. If anything - he's either putting his sick mother after his career or he's using her illness (or fake illness) to manipulate people.

Yay!!! Entertainer rise in ratings every episodes. That means people are actually giving it a try now and tuning in to see it. After Ep. 1 and the negative feedback it get, it turned away many potential viewers because they think it's bad because of the negative comments plus because it have lots of idols in the cast.

But after the positive comments it got on Ep. 2. It seems that some people gave it go the next week because from 6% in Ep 1 and 2, it went to 7% in Ep 3 and then went to 8% in Ep. 4!!! I hope it went even higher next week. I see lots of Knetz hesitant still in Korean forums and comments sections because of the many idols in this drama but I hope they discarded their prejudice against idols and gave it atleast a try. I actually like it!!

I so agreeee!!! I have dreams and still believe that someday (soon, hopefuly) that those scenes that didn't make the final cut will be re-edited and released to us. Please drama gods,please...Santa? Easter Bunny? And if they were to ever make a movie, I want the entire original cast and not a single one changed otherwise, it will feel like a scam.
Please what did cheese ever do to you than be delicious, tastey, smelly colourful,in varieties,in fact, anything to everyone? Wae? Wae? Wae?
I say justice for The Cheese,JUSTICE!!!!

I hate to say this, Flower in Prison was actually quite good. Can they just remain Ok Nyeo played by Jung Da Bin instead of Jin Se Yeon later. hmm hmm. The rating already reached 20% for epi 2..what a luck for JSY..

But with a title Flower in Prison, I will want to refer Go Soo a the 'flower'.Go Soo together with other senior actors gonna carry the drama.

I've not seen Entertainer yet so I don't really know how his character is so I'm just going off comments about it. But why would the show try and make him more sympathetic when part of the plot is his growth as a person?

This has been done many times in dramaland. Gaksital, Brilliant Legacy, King 2 Hearts, Dream High, etc. so why is this show getting hit by having an unsympathetic character starting out when it's been a successful plot device for many years?

Okay, so I ended up watching the first two episodes of Flower in Prison after all when I was taking a break from studying, and I'm really surprised and confused at all the people saying how great Jung Da-bin is (and criticizing Jin Se-yeon in the same breath). I know I'm in the minority, but JDB's acting didn't feel natural at all to me. Looking forward to when JSY takes over. Even if she ends up being as bad as everyone says, she won't be worse than JDB imo. I feel sorry for being so harsh towards a young girl, but I just couldn't connect with her performance.

If JDB is bad, JDY is the worst. For a child actress, it is given if she is not natural and good. But for someone who has been a lead for some dramas, but still with flat expressions and end up ruined her character and affects the drama, it is worst.

This drama if managed to get high ratings, because f good writing and power of Go So and strong supporting casts. JSY with or without her is the same. Plenty of actresses can do much better than her.Yes I am being sceptical towards her because I already gave chances but she ruined all them
