Why is Ji Soo mentioned as a possible lead for every single drama casting news? He did well in Angry Mom but all his other works clearly showed he's still very lacking in acting and star quality to be a lead.

essentially, he's the face of promising, young & uprising actors in kdramaland.
lacking in acting? i admit he's not the MOST amazing actor (he still has room for growth, duh) but he has a raw charisma that is very rare in actors. if he's able to hone his craft correctly, i foresee him becoming huuuuuge in the next few years.
seeing as he's receiving love calls & getting cast left and right, the entertainment industry agrees

Well he's gonna need to majorly improve on diction and vocal tone if he wants those lead roles because right now he's good for small roles he's in but as a lead he has a long way to go. Then again, I suppose acting isn't an absolute requirement to be a star.

Oh yeah, for sure. Tacyeon needs to stay away from acting and stick to variety and doing acrobatics in my opinion but I'm just seeing Ji Soo being mentioned in every single drama ever as the main lead and I just feel like he's overrated.

I checked other websites to see the reaction of this casting news. He seems to have many fans who are just happy he's going to be in a drama and don't seem to mind the age gap. K-netizens please be useful and criticize the stuff that needs to be criticized. My only hope is that when he received the casting offer Kim So Hyun hadn't confirmed but once she confirmed he immediately rejected the offer because he found it inappropriate and ignored any personal greed of being the lead in the drama.

Which sites are you talking about.I don't see this news any where else apart from kpop.And there's no audience response too.It would be interesting to see what's netizen's reaction on this.But sadly maybe TC would take the role,considering he does not have anything else on his plate right now.He should respectfully reject the role,because the role does not suit him,at all.

you're being too patronizing - you think k-netizens aren't bothered by this age gap at all? there are plenty of sites where the general reaction is bad in regards to taecyeon's casting, and the age gap is heavily criticized.
there's also that netizen reaction doesn't mean a thing to casting directors unless it's that the actor has a major issue like s/he committed a crime or something, so oops I guess they can't "be useful" as you'd like.

Well look at the time suzy was courted for CIIT,she rejected the role cause of the audience response.So this does matter I think,unless you're talking about directors like shin pd lol.But yeah considering this year,I won't be too much hopeful about it.

She didn't reject the role because of the audience response, she was never gonna take it. Suzy always gets dragged out for casting news like that by the production companies to hype up the show, and JYP immediately put out a statement that they're not considering it. Suzy was already in the midst of negotiations for UF with Kim Woo Bin at the time.

And if directors really cared about netizen response they would've cast Chun Woo Hee or Oh Yeon Seo for CITT since they were netizens' top choice. In reality both actresses confirmed that they weren't even offered a script.

yahhhhh, i don't think suzy rejected because of knetizen response. it doesn't take a genius to know which offer would be a smarter move for her.
UF is from one of the big 3, has LKH helming it AND kim woo bin as headlining male lead
compare it to CITT which is from a (yes, growing in recognition) but still, small cable channel (which means, less views) and has PHJ as male lead. which lets face it, his popularity is no where as explosive as KWB's (in asia OR internationally) [i friggin' loveeeeeeeeee PHJ tho, lol]
overall, i'm sure suzy rejected CITT cuz she already had her eyes on UF, the better offer. it's similar to PBG's situation with moonlight. he rejected a supporting role in entertainer to headline HIS OWN drama instead.
suzy is a hot topic and her name is always buzzing so i'm sure news media outlets (and even those behind the CITT production) were more than okay with throwing her name around. that's why they offered her the leading role in the first place--they understand their target audience and knows she's a safe bet. ppl can complain about her acting all they want but at the end of the day, she's where the money's at.

Lol don't know,but 'uncontrollably fond' came on news a lot later though.I don't think she had that offer in hand when CIIT casting news were making rounds.

you seriously don't believe UF was already in its casting stages/an ongoing project at the same time that CITT was JUST because you heard about it after CITT? c'mon, be realistic. i'm sure UF was in talks for a while back and was under tight wraps because of who was helming it.
most realistic (and obvious) scenario is that CITT production threw out her name for hype (and probs to push her into doing the drama) but she didn't take the bone. yeah, knetizens were pleased BUT it's not like they wouldn't have watched CITT if suzy was cast. regardless, this whole "audience has so much say in casting choices" business is a load of BS in my opinion. if they did, don't you think we'd have better actors/actresses acting in dramas together? instead, we're getting a slew of weird (and icky) kdrama pairs with actresses that are barely legal.

@Kayla,I agree with your last line.These days dramas needs more lucks than good scripts to be a success.I guess a lot of the older dramas clicked cause the actors made it work.Now,most of the actors are either wannabe entertainers or have a strong backup system.

Am I the only one finding it ironic that so many commenters here mention the inappropriate age gap, but then go on to mention 23-4 year old actors they think would be right for the part? How is that age gap not inappropriate as well? Because the ones mentioned could visually pass for high schoolers? The only one I've seen mentioned who'd be remotely okay age-wise is Kwak Dong Yeon.
I'm really starting to feel sorry for Taecyeon, no one wants to see him in another drama lol. He seems like a decent guy and I really don't think he'd be comfortable acting romantically involved with a high-schooler, so I think he'll probably decline. I hope he sticks to variety and dancing, those he can do just fine, not every idol has to have a solo singing or acting career. The amount of idols in dramas is really exploding these days, I wish the agencies would put a little more thought into which ones they're gonna send off to dramaland on a visit. Or maybe the casting directors should stop sleeping through auditions. That would help.

I'll say this much, 22-23 is the upper age limit on most of the candidates whose names are being suggested as alternatives, and people are shooting down the older options being suggested.
And at least a 5-6 year age gap with a 16-17 year old actress is not nearly as squicky as a full 11 year age gap with an actor who is not only too old and looks it, but has proved repeatedly that he doesn't have the talent to justify any such casting AND that none of his previous dramas as lead have been successful. Which begs the question..... why are they casting him? He's not bringing talent or a proven track record to the table, what's the point?

The contrasting comments between this article and the previous one on the drama has me cracking up.
It feels like Kdrama is on a roll in pairing young teens with older men that has like a 10 year age gap. Guess that's the new trend, if the drama gods have allowed Kang Haneul to avoid his other disaster drama, then maybe they will listen and cast a actor closer in age to the character.

yeah, where is he?! I feel like he's leaving acting behind as a child star thing, which sucks because the kid is talented. But he's just not booking lead roles, the last thing he was in iirc was a supporting role in Orange Marmalade last year. (which is also a sad thing to be saying about a 19-20 year-old kid)

Whyyyyyyyyyy?? I like Taec too and think hes entertaining but I was glad a high schooler was playing a highschooler and had hope theyd cast another high schooler as her love interest so whats this?? And Taec is supposed to be younger than her! Like, really?? They can always change things a bit but nope... If ure gonna cast an older male, cast her cute costar from Ma Boy!

If they are going to cast someone from JYP can it be GOT7's Junior?!?! Pleeeease, he looks the part way better and I am dying to see him in acting more. I have read good things about his acting too. Or even Taec's group mate Wooyoung looks more appropriate, not by much...but a little.
Lets have Lee won gun here and Taec with Kim so eun in spike 2. That could work. Jisoo would definitely be amazing too, I agree. And I maybe will get disagreement on this, but if we are picking idols, and if we're talking about same "mediocre" level as Taec, maybe L would look better "age"?

Are they try to make KSH hard carry this drama all by her tiny self? Y'all better pay her at least triple than whatever Taec is receiving for a start (but I doubt it...)
And Taec is obviously looks his age, not a high schooler face with a limited acting ability, and I'm being super generous right now tbh.
Cant they cast someone who is age appropriate to KSH with acting ability? There are many teen actors in that industry, I'm pretty sure most daily dramas have lots of younger casts. Pick one of them. And later take credit for discovering the new it guy. see, win-win situation~

2. The boy who played Park Sun Woo in Signal
3. Jackson Wang (hey! He’s lively at least and I can see chemistry btw him and KSH burn up the screen)
4. Heck if they’re going old might as well Kang Ha Neul.

They should've gone for casting someone like Junior(Park JinYoung) if they are really considering Taecyeon. I mean they're from the same agency, somewhat a younger looking Taec but with better acting chops imo. He was really good in "My Love Eundong" and was able to make the pairing with Lee JaIn who's like 10 years younger work.

3.Or if they can finally give a not younger version character to him again but a lead - park gun tae. (He looks like younger version of joo won or kang dong won) he's a child actor at the same time with yoo jingu. He's also paired with kim yoojung (may queen). But he's not casted yet as a lead (always younger lead- 1st episodes, but the one drama with yoo jingu- it was longer episodes.)
4.The younger lee minho is a good choice too (Like a TMTETS reunion although they dont have that much scene there).

At this point, I'd rather get on the Kim So Hyun-Nam Joo Hyuk (aka Eun Bi-Yi Ahn in School 2015) ship because Taecyeon-Kim So Hyun is just meh.
(At the very least, at least change it to Yook Sung-jae, just so we can see him and KSH go at it. And by go at it, I don't mean dirty stuff. Ya filthy-minded animals.)
