I was about to complain and say not this again, but from the circumstances the person crying plagiarism might actually have a case. Sorry but I call BS on the script writer and the way he is trying to get out of it.

Nothing more scummy than stealing someone's IP and claiming it as your own...hope it's not true. That being said, dropped this drama around ep 8 because it was so frustrating, repetitive and boring. Hope the finale is fun for those of you who stuck with it

I in my kdrama slump and only watched it for 3/4 eps and save it for later. Never know that the rating decline that much. It was ok but mainly because of the acting tbh.
Reading it, seems like Go have a case tho but who knows. Hopefully DB will cover the outcome, now I'm interested to know.

As someone who has aspirations to be a writer myself, plagiarism is always a concerning topic. If this is true, then I can't even with this. However, I will say this: writers are inspires by what they see, hear, read, and feel. If Ryu thought Go's script was good, it could have influenced his own drama. But, yeah, specific similarities like the spray gas scene? That has to have been plagiarized.

I wasn't interested in this show to begin with. But now? Definitely not going to watch it.

I generally side-eye this because not only some of the 'stolen stuff' raised are really general police drama troupes, they only raised it at the literal end of the drama airing (as compared to the trainwreck of Cheese, which was raised a few weeks before the actual drama ended, and was pre-produced. It reeks sensationalisation, and unless we get more obvious 'plagiarism' claims that actually are unique, I'll continue supporting Pied Piper.

Drama behind the drama. Uh oh!

I don't know who's right, but I gotta say that the allegedly plagarised parts aren't really unique or special to police procedural dramas...

A corrupt higher authority - almost every police drama has it. If so, only a little few do NOT have people wanting revenge on it.

A negotiations task force... is not really something special either...

The gas scene needs more information regarding the accusing party's version and what has been played out since Sarin gas scares have become commin in police dramas since it actually happened in real life, along with bombs and whatever else.

If Pied Piper WAS plagarised, then yes, this writer should be brought down. But from the above, I can't hammer the gravel yet.

First of all WELCOME to tineybeanie in Dramabeans... now on topic.. it is sad to read the case written above.. i haven't watch this drama but whoever is a culprit should be punish..

But the Pied Piper in this version isn't a terrorist fighting a corrupt government per se. That would be an oversimplification of what this drama is about. He is trying to expose what he sees to be a travesty of justice. And I think that there are enough parallels with Liar Game to say that the writer has left his own stamp on this.

It's a shame about the ratings because this drama has gotten heaps better after the initial rocky period. I would even venture to say that the moral complexity of this drama is far above that of most K police procedurals.

Even if it is a case of idea theft - the series itself is well-written. To me, it is not boring at all.
Not quite Signal-level, but a very good crime/thriller.
And: Nobody in this drama is a bumbling idiot or a disgrace to his/her profession (well, except the baddies) - something that other "professional" Korean dramas always get wrong (be they medical, procedural or police).

I don't think it would have much impact to a show already on a rating slump and about to finish. Maybe the controversy would drum up some interest in the show? But that's a tall order.

I personally like the show very much and think it is well written, I love the concept behind the show too. Hoping that the concept wasn't stolen, but I do admire the writer's ingenuity in keeping up the momentum of the show through 14 episodes. It feels fresh and exciting and never stale, so I'm leaning towards the belief that it is all a misunderstanding. The Pied Piper isn't a terrorist, more like a marionette pulling the strings of everyone else, and there's more to the plot than was originally explained by in the article.

I'll admit that I've adored Pied Piper so far, so I can't truly say that I'm unbiased. But I also think I can fairly say that I've some personal experience with plagiarism, and based on that experience, my personal opinion is that writer Go accusing writer Ryu of plagiarism feels misguided at best.

First and foremost, there's a huge difference between 'copying someone else's idea' and 'sharing someone's inspiration'. Back in the good ol' days, nobody really brought up the word 'plagiarism' unless concepts or texts were copied down to the most minute detail without any more input. But lately, it feels like the number of 'YOU WROTE A THING ABOUT THE SAME VAGUE CONCEPT I DID!!!' disputes have gotten out of control.

There is a clear number of emotions in the human heart. Similarly, there's a certain number of themes you can find in stories. And, as anyone who watches drama regularly would know, there's also a certain number of repeated components and scenarios in the fictional world.

So it stands to reason that nothing that's written is really 'original' so much as it is a bunch of the same old things rearranged in a different way.

For example, 'The Lion King' was heavily influenced by Mabceth- so then, did Disney steal one of their best-loved stories from good ol' Bill? Shakespeare himself copied whole phrases and passages from the works of other writers in his time to use as inspiration for his own works. So was the world's most widely recognised playwright, then, nothing more than a dirty plagiarist?

My personal answer to that is 'no'. Disney didn't copy and paste The Lion King onto the big screen; there were some of the same factors in the scenario, but in the end they put enough different components into the story that made it uniquely their own work. Same goes for Shakespeare: he used everything he got from other writers as a /source of inspiration/ to feed the rest of his work, not as the main attraction.

Honestly, I think of inspiration as kinda like the foundation of a house. It's the start of everything, yeah, but the walls, the roof, the windows, the door, the decor-- they're all a different writer's own unique mix.

Plagiarism, on the other hand, is very clear and very easy to identify. It's copy, paste, edit, publish. They don't put any of their own unique mix of components into it, don't make it something that only they could put together, and instead simply sell off someone else's mix as their own.

It's disgusting and insulting, and I've personally suffered the blood-boiling indignity of someone copying my work in an infuriatingly subtle way that made it pretty much impossible to prove, so believe me when I say that I have no sympathy for plagiarists.

It's just that I've also kind of had it with people forgetting that nothing is truly original, and throwing 'I THOUGHT OF IT FIRST' fits over concepts that have been recycled in the literary world for ages...
