Sassy Go Go: Episode 11
by LollyPip
As old conflicts are put to rest, new ones crop up, and the cheerleading team may be in danger of missing regionals altogether. It’s not easy to balance school, friends, and home life, as all of our kids are beginning to realize. And what do you do when choosing your own happiness means taking away someone else’s dreams?
EPISODE 11 RECAP
With the entire cheerleading club bombarding her with adorable videos and sweet requests to come back and make up for what she’s done, Soo-ah cries with happiness. She spends some time thinking about what to do.
But the team wonders if she’s even gotten their videos — is she ignoring them? Aside from being their friend, they don’t have a flyer without Soo-ah, which could keep them from regionals.
Director Lee and Soo-ah’s mom come to collect her to send her overseas, and Mom repeats her sick mantra that nothing happened, and she can start a new life (which is dissonant on its own — if nothing happened, why does she need to start a new life?). But this time Soo-ah responds that something DID happen, and she chooses to go back to Sevit High and face her punishment.
Of course Mom is furious, because the appearance of perfection is more important than being a good person. But Soo-ah wants forgiveness from her teachers and fellow students, even if it takes time. Mom tries a different tactic, saying that she knows how she feels but this is a mistake that she’ll regret making later.
Soo-ah says that following her mother’s “road map” is what got her here, and she’s done following someone else’s plan. Now she’s going to do what she believes is right, and do what she wants to do. She’s not going to study overseas, and she’ll get into an Ivy League school through her own abilities.
When Yeon-doo sees Soo-ah back at school, she smiles, but puts on a stern face. She’s all Well, aren’t you coming? as she leads Soo-ah into the practice room. Soo-ah looks terrified, but she finally goes in, and the whole room goes silent.
The kids wait expectantly, because their desire for Soo-ah to come back wasn’t unconditional — she still has some atoning to do. Tentative and humbled, Soo-ah says that she was scared and didn’t know if she should come back. She says their videos gave her courage, and she thanks them, and says she’s sorry.
She particularly apologizes to Yeol and Dong-ha for hurting them, and says she’s sorry for dragging them all into her scheme to get into the Ivy Leagues. She can’t even look Yeon-doo in the face, but she apologies to her too, and Yeon-doo stops her.
She says that hurting someone else to save her own hide was terrible. Soo-ah knows that “sorry” isn’t enough, and the kids all pout at her for scaring them so badly that night she nearly killed herself. Yeon-doo admits that forgiving her won’t be easy, and as club captain, sentences Soo-ah to clean the practice room by herself for a month.
At such a normal punishment, the kids all snicker, and Soo-ah even cracks a smile to feel like part of the team again. Yeol adds that she should also provide all the snacks, and with that, the ice is broken. Now that their flyer is back, it’s time for serious practice!
Soo-ah receives punishment from the school itself, though the other students whine that volunteer work is too light a sentence. Soo-ah accepts it pragmatically, and it’s cute how Yeon-doo is all Yep, you totally deserve it. Soo-ah uses her old “I’m Kwan Soo-ah, this won’t break me” mantra in a new way, feeling good about taking her medicine.
She sincerely thanks Yeon-doo for not giving up on her, and Yeon-doo complains that she feels soooo wronged still, and wants to hit Soo-ah to get her back, hee. She gives her a good thump on the forehead, promising that Soo-ah has a lot more of those to look forward to before Yeon-doo feels like they’re even. So cute.
Later her roommates watch Soo-ah sleep, smiling that she looks relaxed for the first time in — well, ever. Yeon-doo tucks her in, and Soo-ah smiles in her sleep, feeling their acceptance.
During study hall, Yeon-doo gets bored and makes pouty faces at Yeol, trying to get his attention. He completely ignores her, so she grumpily sticks a note on his forehead and stomps off. The note quotes Yeol’s note asking her to see a movie after exams are over, and whines that exams were over a million years ago!
She gets no answer, and does the age-old phone dance of checking it every three seconds to make sure it’s still working. She bows up when she sees Yeol walking with Hyo-shik, figuring that he’s ignoring her.
She tracks down Ha-joon to ask him about a problem her “friend” is having with a guy. He asked her to a movie, but then a lot of things happened, so she gave him her answer late. HAHA, Ha-joon says, “You did?” and Yeon-doo is all, “Yeah I did. I mean MY FRIEND did!” Riiiight.
She asks if it looks obsessive for the girl to pursue the guy, and Ha-joon shyly says that he would like it, actually. Awww puppy, I can’t believe no girl has ever shown interest in that adorable face!
Yeol enlists Ha-joon’s help for a “secret project,” promising to explain the purpose to him later. All he’ll say is that he’s fulfilling a promise to Yeon-doo, which piques Ha-joon’s interest.
Yeol says that he wants his best friend to be the first to know, and nervously tells him that he and Yeon-doo are officially dating. It’s a struggle, but Ha-joon wishes them luck. Yeol can tell that something isn’t quite right, especially when Ha-joon quickly retreats from the room.
Yeon-doo lurks in the school common area, pretending nonchalance when Yeol and Ha-joon wander through. Yeol gives her greeting very little reaction, but he can’t tease her for long. He runs back with a mischievous grin (in other words, his normal grin) to stick yet another note to her forehead, which instructs her to come to the club room later.
When she gets there, she sees Yeol’s surprise: a projection screen playing a movie, and a cozy little loveseat with movie snacks at the ready. They’re adorably shy, but they snuggle up pretty quickly, and Yeol takes Yeon-doo’s hand while she nestles her head on his shoulder.
They’re blissfully happy, but Ha-joon sits downstairs alone. He starts to delete the picture of himself and Yeon-doo taking their punishment, but in the end, he keeps the photo.
The boys pack up to go home for break, noting that Ha-joon isn’t packing, which he says is because his family chauffeur is coming to do it for them. Dong-jae wants to go for burgers with Yeon-doo on their way home, which makes jealous Yeol bark at him. He pouts at all the skinship between the friends, now that Dong-jae’s touch-aversion is cured, and tags along after them.
When the three stop to eat, Yeol is still grumping about Dong-jae and Yeon-doo’s friendship. Yeol asks if Yeon-doo plans to keep hanging out with Dong-jae (and Dong-jae’s innocent-puppy expression kills me dead), and she just pats her poor jealous boy indulgingly.
Dong-jae catches on to Yeol’s jealousy, and offers to leave the two of them alone. He invites himself to dinner at Yeon-doo’s later because his own mom can’t cook, and Yeol adorably objects, since he hasn’t even eaten at her place yet. Yeon-doo just laughs at them both.
Ha-joon is still at school that night, alone, and he frowns at his report card — it must be bad. He remembers his father berating him for doing unimportant things like cheerleading and having friends. He gets a call from home, but doesn’t answer.
Yeol is back in fine boyfriend form as the three walk home together, holding an umbrella over Yeon-doo’s head and trying to secretly hold hands. HAHA, Dong-jae is on her other side, also holding an umbrella over her. She tells Dong-jae he can’t come for dinner tonight, but Yeol is still grumpy about not getting any alone time with Yeon-doo as they walk.
From the other direction, Yeon-doo’s mom and Yeol’s dad also walk home, and Mom invites Dad to take some food home from her place to feed his son. They discuss the plans to tell their kids about their relationship, intending to get it done this weekend.
Yeol grins ear-to-ear when they finally drop Dong-jae off at his house, and wants to know how long Yeon-doo intends to keep hanging out with him. He grabs her hand, complaining that he’s been wanting to do this so bad, and they walk all of five steps to Yeon-doo’s house.
Still holding hands, they run smack into their parents, who also look mighty cozy. Everyone drops hands in shock as they realize the situation, and the men are sent home so that Mom and Yeon-doo can talk.
Yeon-doo is, of course, freaking completely out that her mother is not only dating, but dating her boyfriend’s father. Mom tries to downplay her relationship, but Yeon-doo saw them holding hands and peppers her mother with questions. Mom finally collapses under pressure and admits that yes, she’s been dating Yeol’s father.
Yeol and his father have a much more tense version of the same conversation, and Yeol is pretty angry. Dad promises that he wasn’t going to make any big decisions without talking to Yeol first, but Yeol counters that he doesn’t have any reason to believe that, since Dad got divorced without asking how he felt. So why does he care now?
Dad says that she’s a good person, and he wouldn’t date her if she wasn’t someone who would be good to his child. Yeol scoffs, and asks what Dad would do if he says No… would he break up with her? Dad just sighs, and Yeol asks him to leave. Before he goes, Dad asks what relationship Yeol has with Yeon-doo, but we don’t hear Yeol’s answer.
Yeon-doo can’t even sleep for her frustration, and she has horrifying visions of having to live with Yeol as her oppa with all the romantic chemistry between them, and being unable to act on it. She and Yeol decide to go back to school without telling their parents, and both parents and children complain about the situation. This is why you don’t keep secrets about important stuff like who you’ve been dating for two years.
Both couples discuss what they know at this point, and Yeon-doo is saddened to hear that her mother lied to her by saying her relationship with Yeol’s dad isn’t serious. Both couples decide that they need to come up with some sort of plan.
Ha-joon is surprised to see Yeol back, but Yeol just says that neither of their homes was ever comfortable. He tells Ha-joon that his dad is dating Yeon-doo’s mom, and that it seems serious (in Korean society, dating is forbidden for stepsiblings — so if their parents get married, it effectively ends any future they may have together). As upset about this news as he is, he figures that must mean he really like Yeon-doo, and looks on the verge of tears just thinking about it.
Ha-joon finds Yeon-doo downstairs, and she invites him to sit — her “friend” has another problem. She tells him about the situation, unaware that he already knows, and he asks why she keeps telling him this stuff. Yeon-doo guesses that she just feels comfortable with him.
He advises that her “friend” should do what her heart wants the most… what will give her peace. Yeon-doo likes that, thanks him for the sympathetic ear, and leaves calling Yeol to meet. After she’s gone, Ha-joon calls himself an idiot for not being able to follow his own advice.
The kids both call their respective parents to meet and talk, which makes the parents nervous and puts them on their guard. But they’re shocked to realize the real plan — Yeol goes to talk to Mom (with flowers in hand, sweet boy) while Yeon-doo approaches Dad. Smart kids.
Yeol is adorably nervous, but he wastes no time identifying himself as her daughter’s boyfriend. Yeon-doo also tells Dad straight out that she and Yeol are dating, and that in fact he was hospitalized that time because he was saving her from injury.
Dad is surprised to hear that, since in his experience, Yeol only thinks of himself. But Yeon-doo tells him that actually, Yeol is very nice and thoughtful of others. She says that she was actually the selfish one, until she met his son.
Mom wants to know why Yeol likes her daughter, and he says that at first, it was because she’s fun. But now he’s grateful and happy that she believes in him, which gives him the courage to believe in others. Mom can’t help but smile, and says that her daughter has found a good boyfriend. It’s the crinkles — gets ’em every time.
Yeon-doo and Yeol compare notes back at school, and Yeol in particular is confident that their parents will decide not to get married. Yeon-doo doesn’t seem as happy about this as he is, feeling badly for attempting to take away her mother’s happiness.
The parents also feel badly, knowing that either they have to give each other up, or their kids do. Yeol’s dad seems a bit jealous of Yeon-doo, who got his son to open up when he never could, and Mom brags that she’s good at relationships like her mother. They wonder what to do, but neither has an answer.
Ha-joon’s father meets with the chairman of the Education Office, and asks if Sevit High is still under investigation for spec-building. The chairman tells him not to worry, but he does mention Ha-joon being on the cheerleading squad, and warns him that the club will be the focus of the investigation. Ha-joon’s father seems worried about a development fund, but the chairman just says obliquely that he might want to think of getting his son out of cheerleading.
Ha-joon’s dad surprises him at school, and immediately lights into him for his falling grades. He orders Ha-joon to quit the cheerleading team, but Ha-joon musters the courage to ask to wait until after regionals in two weeks. This insubordination earns him a bloody lip and a vicious beating with a wooden rod.
Yeol can guess what’s happening when Ha-joon doesn’t show up for cheerleading practice, and he tells Yeon-doo that he can’t sit back and let his friend’s abuse go on anymore. He runs to Ha-joon’s house, but he’s not there, nor is he answering his phone.
Yeon-doo sees him back at school, looking dejected and alone. He brushes her hand away when she reaches for his split lip, and get even angrier when she tries to help him walk. Yeon-doo insists that he needs treatment, but Ha-joon says he only fell, and she pretends to believe him in hopes that he’ll listen. But he’s embarrassed and angry, and begs her to pretend she didn’t see him.
She agrees if he’ll get treated, but his hopeless expression and silence finally convince her to stop fussing over him. But Yeon-doo can’t help but worry for Ha-joon, and doesn’t want to see him in pain. She turns to leave, but her last statement gets to him, and he folds her in a tight backhug.
“Don’t go,” he whispers, with tears rolling down his face. “Stay with me for a little bit. This is too painful.” Oh, honey.
Yeon-doo takes Ha-joon to the infirmary but can’t find any medicine, so he asks her to just sit with him. She offers to call Yeol since he’s so worried about Ha-joon, but he doesn’t want his friend seeing him this way. But Yeol finds them there anyway, and gets the medicine to treat Ha-joon’s injuries.
Clearly Yeol is bothered to see Ha-joon and Yeon-doo together, but he holds it in and only mentions that Yeon-doo’s eyes are red. He pretends it’s from lack of sleep and sends her away, ostensibly to get some rest, while he stays with Ha-joon.
Once she’s gone, Yeol softens to see his friend’s obvious embarrassment, and doctors his friend as he’s done probably a thousand times before. He asks if it’s because of his report card, but Ha-joon just apologizes, “For everything.”
On her way back to her dorm Yeon-doo thinks about that backhug, and explains it away as just Ha-joon being emotional about getting beaten. Yeol sits alone on the stairs, and we see now that he saw Ha-joon hugging Yeon-doo and asking her not to leave him.
The next time he sees Yeon-doo, it takes an extra moment for his crinkles to show up. But he manages to smile and flirt, and offers to tutor her again and help her ranking go up one more point, though he still wants food as payment. What, not kisses? He’s not thinking big enough.
At cheerleading practice, Instructor Nam notices that Ha-joon is very stiff and sore, warning him to be careful — as a base, if he falters, someone could get hurt. But before they can start, Teacher Im calls him to Principal Choi’s office, where he’s informed that his father is forcibly pulling from the cheerleading team.
She says that if he refuses, his father intends to use his influence with the school board chairman to make sure that both Teacher Yang and Instructor Kim lose their jobs. Geez, this couldn’t have waited a measly two weeks? Principal Choi is no fool, and mentions to Teacher Im that she thinks this is connected to the upcoming inspection.
Ha-joon watches his friends practice, and recalls his father saying that he could make sure the cheerleading team is dissolved completely. In order to let his friends continue cheering, and to save his teachers’ jobs, he decides to quit the team. Instructor Nam wants to know why, this close to regionals, but Ha-joon just says he doesn’t want to do it anymore.
Instructor Nam tells the rest of the kids that they’ll have to change a few positions, because Ha-joon is leaving the team. Everyone is upset, but nobody more than Yeol, who goes looking for Ha-joon and finds him alone in the gym.
He confronts Ha-joon, who tries to play it like he wants to focus on his studies. Yeol doesn’t believe that for one second, and furiously demands to know if it’s because of Yeon-doo. Ha-joon is surprised, and Yeol screams in his face, “I’m asking if it’s because of Kang Yeon-doo!”
COMMENTS
Alright Yeol, that was NOT okay, even if Ha-joon had wanted to leave the team which he didn’t. He knows Ha-joon’s father showed up and that he ended up with a fat lip and worse, and yet he still attacks him and accuses him? He can’t help if he likes Yeon-doo, but he’s never not once made a move on her. And I don’t think Ha-joon ever would, as long as he knows his best friend liked her. The backhug, to me, wasn’t really so much a request for her to return his romantic feelings, but a desperate plea for his friend not to leave him alone in that moment. It’s unfair on multiple levels for Yeol to behave that way, and it’s the first time in this whole drama that I’ve been angry with him.
Ha-joon himself is STILL killing me. I love that, now that he has friends and support and has managed to shake off his frequent impotent rage, he’s turning out to be quite the sweet little kitten. It’s wonderful to see his real personality shine though now that he doesn’t feel the need to lash out at the slightest sudden movement, and I love how mellow and gentle he truly is. It makes his earlier self-harm (possibly suicide attempts) a lot more understandable, that being so tender-hearted, he would turn his anger and frustration inward towards himself rather than out towards others. But it makes me worry for him even more, and we only have one more episode to help him find a different, happier way to be. But if this show can redeem Soo-ah, I have faith that it can save Ha-joon.
To go back to the beginning of the episode, it’s true that I haven’t been inclined to cut Soo-ah any slack for some time, and doubted that any kind of redemption for her would be satisfying enough to make me give her another chance. But I have to admit, as Saya said, that seeing Soo-ah saved instead of redeemed makes a lot of difference. She didn’t do anything to deserve forgiveness, and truly, there’s nothing she could do to deserve it. But for the other kids to decide to save and forgive her anyway — now that’s a horse of a different color. That says more about the other cheerleading club members than Soo-ah herself, but for Soo-ah to genuinely want to take the hand they reached out to her, and gather the courage to do so, is what made me change my mind and decide she deserves another shot. She’s not saying, “Look, I did some random good thing so I deserve to be forgiven.” She knows she doesn’t deserve it, and goes to them with a humble heart and a willing spirit. That’s much harder than making some grand gesture, and proves that she’s truly sorry and that she won’t fall back to her old ways.
Aside from being upset with his behavior int he last few minutes of the episode, I adore how completely out of his element Yeol is when it comes to dating. It’s doubly cute since he’s got such a reputation for being a ladies’ man. He’s so jealous of any contact Yeon-doo has with other guys, though it’s not the possessive, angry kind of jealousy, more like he just wants her to choose to hang out with him first. But good for her, for not ditching her existing friends just because she got a boyfriend, and for letting that boyfriend know that she has every intention of treating her old friends exactly as she has always done. He clearly has NO idea how to do this “you’re my girl but you have your own life too” thing, and thank goodness Yeon-doo’s reaction is just to laugh at how cute he is and not give his jealousy any weight. She has her head on straight and keeps her loyalties, and knows that it’s Yeol’s attitude that has to change and not her own friendships, which is super healthy of her.
But… that jealousy (cute as it is, for now) coupled with Yeol’s behavior when he found out his father is dating, is pretty problematic. Yeol’s one drawback is that he’s still very immature, as he demonstrated by insisting his father not date Yeon-doo’s mom. Maybe it comes down to a difference in culture, but I don’t think a parent has an obligation to consult his child (especially an almost-grown child) on who he can or cannot date. Ask their opinion, yes, but the child has no right to veto a parent’s choice just because they don’t like the idea of their parent dating. For Yeol to demand that his father break up with Yeon-doo’s mom, just because he didn’t talk to him first, is pretty selfish and not well done of him. He’s got a long way to go to understand how dating works, for himself AND for others.
But considering that one of the couples will have to give up their relationship in order for the other to survive, it’s definitely not an easy situation for any of them. I have no idea how they can solve this without one of the couples getting hurt, and I’m nervous that there’s only one episode left in which to do it. But this show has led us into situations that seem to have no good solution before and managed to get everyone out the other side safely, so I’m choosing to trust the show one last time. Don’t let me down!

Yes I loved him in that scene, actually, and I think I understand his outburst to Ha Joon at the last moment.
The moment he found out about the hug, rather than getting hurt thinking about his best friend liking his girl friend, I think he was hurt more because of the fact that HJ didn't tell the truth to him. They promised each other to be the first to know when there's someone they really like, and I guess he thought that HJ, one of a few that he trusted the most, broke that promise. He must've felt terrible too, thinking about how much he indirectly hurt HJ feelings by being together with YD.
I see it more like frustration rather than anger.
Well we can't blame HJ for not telling him too, because of course he loved his best friend and doesn't want to worry him, and I guess people also sometimes find themselves doing unpredictable things in their most fragile moments, and that's why he hugged YD.

ah, there are some things that are cliche. but there is a message of kindness in them. do not be bitches and love each other, thats all. lean on someone to come through, do not hide things from your friends etc.
i wish they would not have made it romantic, I would have liked a comradeship and willingness to put your neck on the line for any person who has won your trust.
but then, Ha Joons´ neck is already on the line. romantic conflict is better than a physical conflict, I guess.
I cheated though. I looked at ep 12 ending first.

I saw the english sub for the finale is already out, but.... am too scared to watch and wait for the recap first. Such a coward, i am.
Its just the show look like other kdrama but in some areas not like other drama.
So yeah. Its hard to not have an ideal-ending assumption for the finale.
I just want all our characters be happy (ok minus soo ah's mom and principal choi perhaps.)
Please drama make it a good and memorable ending!

The ending is surprisingly great. Though I hv my ideal ending, but I am actually buying the writer's direction. Honesty, it's the ending I can understand and can accept for everybody.

I don't understand why everyone is saying oh no how can they date if the parents get married?! Has no one watched dramas before or have any knowledge of asian family registration? All they have to do is stay on different family registrations and then by law they aren't related. All Yeol would have to do is move to his mother's family registration ( which he would have left when his dad won him in the divorce). So if yeol is not on his father's registered family list then his dad can marry her mom and they aren't siblings. Yes I'm sure it would still be a bit awkward but it wouldn't be illegal or forbidden.

I don't think it's just about that, because in dramaland, we are assuming that they stay together forever and get married, but let's be real, if they were to break up, which is more likey, but we don't need to think about that, it's really awkward, not just for them, but for their family. So if their parents got married, yea it's not illegal, but it's a complicated situation to explain because by law, they are siblings.

I mean, it is dramaland, after all. How likely is it that a real-life school would basically magic a cheerleading club out of thin air and force it into competition for the sake of one student's college applications?
If anything, high school sweethearts staying together is a lot more realistic than that lol. And as a drama watcher, I'd rather just leave it all in dramaland and assume Yeol and Yeon-doo eventually go the distance and have loads of eyesmiling chipmunky babies (who will be sent to schools that aren't as nasty as Sevit, when it's time).

Sigh~ I would watch the heck out of that. If only it could get an extension and do an epilogue like in Reply Me 1997. Their chipmunky babies would have the moxie to challenge the world and dominate it with their one-two-three style logic. Plus, they would have the best uncle in Ha Joon.
Maybe a Sassy Go Go 2: The Chipmunky Babies Bring It!

I love that even Yeon-doo has taken to going 1, 2, 3 on things - Yeol must be getting to her!
and oh god, imagine the babies. Or maybe don't, teenage Yeol and Yeon-doo already have us in this state, if we got to see the inevitable eyesmiling babies we'd probably all die (official recorded cause of death: Too Much Cute).

High School sweethearts staying together, looking at Yeon Doo and Yeol's relationship, they have this strong and solid ground between them. Their relationship is actually more mature and understanding than many adults' relationships in many dramas I've seen. First, they started off being friends having crushes on each other, but they've always been communicative and honest with each other, then they confide in each other in a way that only they can understand each other while other people doesn't, then they grew and earned so much trust from each other and that made them respecting one another in a way that they can rely on each other through any situations. That's what makes their relationship being very healthy and mature than many other adults' relationships I've seen in dramas. This goes the same way between Yeon Doo and Ha Joon with their friendship qualities.
Trust me, YeolDoo will definitely last long than you guys expected as though they are just teenagers, but their relationship is more mature and solid than any other adults' relationships out there, which reminds me of my classmates' couple, they went out together since middle school, their relationship lasts all the way through high school to college. I don't know about now, since we don't see another after high school anymore, but their relationship really lasts a lifetime with each other. So yeah, that was through my experience that I've seen a very young couple lasting that long with each other, if they last that long, then why can't YeolDoo last that long like them, right? Yes, they've went through many problems with each other, even through a break up as well, and then they go back to each other again, that was exactly how I experienced from those two relationship, you know? So don't suggest or judge Yeol and Yeon Doo's couple just cause they are young, for these two, I can actually see no one can stop them with each other, not even their parents lol

So this was the poster that I made for the last episode... http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/zeroshoofly/Sassyposter.jpg It really should say "10 episodes."
I'm disappointed in how they wrapped up Su Ah's conflict in a neat little bow. Of course, given the episode limit, they needed to redirect their attention to other unfinished business but the ideal would have been to gone deep into her redemption and how she would have confronted the beast that is her mother.
I think the mistake of not showing Su Ah's deep vulnerable moments of hesitation and conflict in episodes 1-10 caused a jarring contrast to her changed character in episode 11. If we had been able to see into her point-of-view deeply the struggle that she was experience (instead of 10 seconds of shocked/worried looks), her guilt and turn-around would've been more believable. That moment where she cried to Yeol asking for an extension of three-days, why the heck did they include that ominous sound of evil-plotting when they could've just left to indicate that she was really remorse?! To have her feel that guilty but be pushed to violent limits would've made her story more pitiful and tragic. It was charming to see such a sweet and playful side of Su Ah in this episode though!
Also with Ha Joon...I am so disappointed in how the writer wrote his relationship with Yeol. I was really hoping Ha Joon to be able to choose his best friend over the girl. I really thought he was going to delete that photo right there and then, in a show of utmost loyalty to the brother who has always been there for him.
And he shouldn't have hugged her. Ugh. I don't believe it was simply because he was lonely and desperate and hurt. He could've simply said the words, but he didn't have to hug her. He could've taken her hand but he shouldn't have done the back-hug of romance.
I think it was uncharacteristic of Yeol to have shouted at Ha Joon at the end. He's hardly ever one to shout... It would've been better for him just to accuse him calmly "Did you leave because of Yeon Doo?"
How much do I love Yeon Doo and her mom?! I love that they simply talked about the situation instead of going all makjang on each other!!!!! They are both so sweet to each other; I wish all mom and daughter relationships were like that.

I think Yeol shout because he's frustrated in sense that he love Yeon Doo but his father's dating her mom and his bestfriend like his girlfriend. I believe in the back of his mind he realize he might hurting both his dad & his bestfriend. OOC maybe but sometime people just lash out unconsciously.

Hahaha i am sorry but you obviously watched episode 12 haven't you? There's no need to sound so snobbish about it. They'll also know about it like you by tomorrow. To me the reactions are understandable. It isn't like all kdramas have 2-generational love stories, even makjang doesn't use it often. Plus the audience didn't jump on that because we have absolutely no information on yeol's mother. they never even mentioned whether yeol was in contact or on good terms with his mother after she just left, because if there was bad blood between them (even worse than with his dad) he would never choose to be part of her register. There's also another possible solution you know. The show never really emphasized that the parents found marriage necessary to continue their relationship, although they wanted it. Tbh at first i didn't get why they didn't just continue dating. But now I get that the writers probably wanted the kids to be the ones to adjust for their parents and in that way show that they matured.

No at the time I had written my comment I had not watched episode 12. How is it snobbish to state a fact? Asian family registries are not the same as north american family ties. It is a different set up completely. It's not snobbish to state a simple fact, why would I freak out over a non-issue? Obviously he would just have to change family registries and they can keep dating. It's simple. Sorry you obviously got offended by your lack of knowledge if you thought I sounded like a snob.

I'll be quite honest, even if the parents had pressed ahead with their marriage plans, I'd have shipped Yeol/Yeon-doo anyway.
I mean, the last time I shipped prospective stepsiblings this hard was Choi Young-do/Yoo Rachel in Heirs (two characters who were much more interesting than the drama they were in), and those two had parents who were actually engaged and wedding planning.

The thing about the dating secrecy... it's not personal secrecy it's cultural. My understanding is you don't bring the bf/gf home to meet the parents until you're asking for marriage permission. Which, the adults were about to do in reverse to their kids. So compartmentalizing the 2 couples - it's just what's done. Of course, in this case normal is problematic.
Overall I feel like this drama is totally fizzling out.

i can understand that, as the pace of the show hasn't been as fast before and all the obstacles left are stuff that we've been aware of for a few weeks now. but what's been comforting to me was thinking what drama has actually stayed strong and chugging until the very end? i mean this isn't a thriller drama or a makjang. even She Was Pretty, which is airing now to high ratings, has been running low on story fumes and the last dramas i watched like Twenty Again and Oh My Ghostess were also dragging or had wrapped things up too neatly at the end. i think the curse of watching the drama in real time is that the 1 week wait between episodes raises our expectations so high that we can't help but be a little disappointed. if only i had the patience to wait until the show was over and i can just marathon it through and ride on the high to get me through any final arc.
but with time, for a really satisfying drama, i can fondly look past its mistakes and clumsiness and just appreciate the fun times we had together.

IDK, maybe it's just me, but everyone on Viki kept saying Yeol was being selfish, but I don't think so. The reason why it's okay to say what Yeol did was not okay is because we know the real reason why Ha Joon decided to quit, but to Yeol, he is angry about a lot of things, and I honestly think he is mainly angry for not knowing that Ha Joon likes Yeon Doo.
Yeol has always cherished Ha Joon, so I think for him, his blow up was more about what to do because even if his love is mutual, dating Yeon Doo while knowing Ha Joon's feelings, regardless of if Ha Joon made a move or not, is no no. I felt like I was the only one that understood that, because it happens in reality and if Yeol doesn't want to lose Ha Joon or Yeon Doo, he's kind of trapped and I think that was why he was so angry, not necessarily at Ha Joon, but at himself.

Not just you - Yeol panicked, realizing Ha Joon was starting to draw a line between himself and Yeol/Yeon Doo. Yeol tends to think eight steps ahead and knows what that well-meaning isolation would do to Ha Joon (and to Yeol himself).
If Yeol were a selfish jerk concerned only about his own dating life he would have yelled at Ha Joon either in the infirmary or during the Yeon Doo hug. What makes him yell is Ha Joon isolating himself: totally different motivation.

yeah, that's exactly what Yeol was afraid of - that Ha-joon would separate from him+Yeon-doo.
And when Yeol found out that Ha-joon had pulled out of cheerleading right in the wake of the revelation that he liked Yeon-doo, it's not hard to see why Yeol thought that separation was the reason, when in reality it was Ha-joon's asshole dad forcing him out.
(this episode/arc also has an interesting take on noble idiocy, because this time the keeping a secret and letting the other person think the worst/keeping them in the dark about the reason for their separation, isn't between romantic interests - it's between best friends)

I am so, so delighted that being noble makes SENSE in this drama: Ha Joon is trying to clear up his feelings so he won't wreck his friendships, but Yeol is onto him and is going to make it a team project.
I also really like that Yeon Doo is pretty oblivious about all of this, so it really is between Ha Joon and Yeol, and it's not a fight over a girl so much as it's them figuring out how their bromance is going to work with Yeon Doo around. It's realistic that the girl isn't playing the guys off of one another in any way, and also nice that Yeol is so invested in Ha Joon's emotional wellbeing.

Exactly. Let's not forget, Yeol has previously expressed jealousy of Yeon-doo touching Ha-joon in a completely innocent way (ep 9), and felt it when he saw the punishment picture Yeon-doo sent him.
But here, faced with an actual backhug, which is pretty unmistakably romantic in nature, and which came at Ha-joon's most vulnerable moment....basically, it's a major moment of potential jealousy, but Yeol doesn't even go there - he's at a loss about how to deal with it now that the thing he previously joked about, has become real in a way he didn't expect.
Ha Joon is trying to clear up his feelings so he won’t wreck his friendships, but Yeol is onto him and is going to make it a team project.
Spot-on. I actually believe Yeol would have left Ha-joon to work his own feelings out while still retaining their friendships, but the quitting forced Yeol's hand.

November 11, 2015 at 2:08 PM
oh, and count me among the people delighted that this remains between Yeol and Ha-joon, and that they are the focus of it - not their relationships with Yeon-doo, but with each other.
I do think it's probably healthier in the long run to have it all out though. Ha-joon trying to suppress his feelings and never speaking of them to anyone, would have been in for a world of pain before anything got better. It's almost like on one hand, forcing this into the open could be like dropping a nuclear bomb on them, while on the other, bringing it into the open robs it of the power it has as a secret.
pogo
November 11, 2015 at 2:25 PM
oh and now I'm really spamming but I do love the way the boys are playing this out, as Ha-joon's feelings are revealed, both to himself and to Yeol. Just last episode, Ha-joon got a major shock seeing Yeol and Yeon-doo kiss, and needed time out before he could face Yeol with her.....but he did go, even if he had to wait hours to do it - he still put his bro first even if it hurt him. And Yeol is mirroring that here after the backhug, because right in that moment, Ha-joon is his #1 priority.

Yes. I also like that Yeon Doo is oblivious about it too, if Yeon Doo knows about it, if Yeol is being trapped like that, we would also know how Yeon Doo would also feel. Because the fact that the two best friends are both having feelings for her, she would also feel terrible about it too, or even feel worse than Yeol did.
But after watching episode 12, it was actually very heartwarming when she finally knows about Ha Joon's feelings to her :) Friendships is in fact these three #1 priority, so I'm very happy how everything was solved so beautifully.

It's definitely not just you - Yeol's blowing his top at Ha-joon registers a lot like his earlier blowup at Yeon-doo at the start of episode 9, which is to say, a lot of the anger expressed is at himself and how he's inadvertently hurt someone he cherishes (in Yeon-doo's case, through the blackmail leading Soo-ah to lash out and leave her, and in Ha-joon's case, through what he probably sees in hindsight as rubbing his new love in the face of his best friend who's also in love with her).
It's also quite in contrast to his certainty about what to do re: the parental dating situation - there, he moves pretty speedily to come up with a fix that stalls the parents (he distrusts his dad and Yeon-doo's mother is an unknown quantity, so he's not nearly as conflicted over their feelings) and lets him and Yeon-doo keep dating, but when it's Ha-joon, he's at a loss about what to do and how to handle it. Especially since not dating Yeon-doo is not an option, he has Yeon-doo's feelings to consider too.

I don't think Yeol minded Ha Joon not telling him - it felt like Yeol realized how tangled this might get, and was willing to let Ha Joon manage it on his own. Like Yeol was okay knowing without Ha Joon realizing it, and Yeol would just kind of monitor the situation and only mention it if something went wrong.
But when Ha Joon started actively doing things to detangle himself from Yeon Doo (and by extension Yeol), THAT was a problem.

I definitely think the childhood promise entered Yeol's mind at some point, but he realised that Ha-joon needed privacy about this. So he left it alone and thought that approach would work (as in get them to a point where their friendship was safe), until he gets what looks like a huge, flashing sign that it wouldn't - Ha-joon's withdrawal.

totally agree. it was a little unfair of lollypip to put Yeol in such a selfish light. in a lesser drama, Yeol would have punched Ha joon or something (im getting flashes of Heirs when LMH ninja kicks KWB, LOLZ what a sight). Yeol has been noticing HJ being distant with him and secretive all episode, he didnt even tell him beforehand that he was pulling out of the cheerleading club. how could he not be hurt after all that they've been through?
same with Yeol and his dad. Yeol is being any regular old teenager who's been hurt too many times by his parent and is in shock at the fact that this parent could ruin the first real happy thing in his life. and this is a father who's been absent for most of his life where he dropped off his son to live with Grandma for a time which the recap didn't mention. so him telling his dad not to date KYD's mom was expected, although it wasn't even like an ultimatum like 'i'll disown you if you do!' but more like a sassy dare to his dad. plus the kids don't even know how serious this relationship is, yeol can't see his dad as a loving person after his divorce from his mom so how can he believe that this relationship is all that deep?
all in all i think his reactions were normal by real world standards, not kdrama. and for those who watch ep 12, you'll see a lot more insight into Yeol's thinking and his bromance with Ha Joon. Oh the BROMANCE!

yep, exactly. i don't see it as yeol being selfish either; it seemed more like a panicked outburst at the fact that ha-joon was isolating himself from yeol, compounded with his own guilt for not realising ha-joon's feelings, and now knowing that the girl he's dating is also the girl his best friend likes.
also, yeol doesn't know ha-joon's real reason for pulling out, which makes his assumption that the reason was yeon-doo quite logical from his point-of-view.

He is angry with himself because he didn't know, but in ep 12 hajoon makes a great point in saying that even if yeol had been told it wouldn't have made a difference. And realized that it was true, even for hajoon dating yeondoo is not a no no.
Also, I actually think his conclusions were not logical this time around. He knew hajoon had just been beaten up, and he quit after he was called to the principal's office. So it makes more sense that those two things were factors. I wouldn't call yeol selfish, just immature. Intelligent but immature. The way he justified their plan to lead their parents to a breakup was immature (and fine, a bit selfish, but more immature). The way he screamed at hajoon without asking him first was also immature, especially as his frustration was misdirected. But you know what? That's all okay because he's a teenager and he makes these mistakes so he can grow.

when you said "even for hajoon dating yeondoo is not a no no", I'm confused by what that means, because I don't fully understand what you are saying.
In terms of the parents, Yeon Doo also participated, so she is also partly to blame, but that was just skimmed over.

I am totally okay with Yeol panicking and shouting at Ha Joon. That read as panic to me, not anger or rage.
The bigger tell for me is that Yeol saw Ha Joon hugging Yeon Doo and apparently WAITED. In a moment where he got a massive shock, his priorities were still straight enough to not intervene - he let Ha Joon hug her, he let them go to the infirmary without knowing he was shadowing them, and then it looks like he gave them some time in the infirmary before coming in. At which point he correctly prioritized that Ha Joon needed him in his role of brother, not a romantic rival. Yeol's pretty good at the long game overall, but that event just showed how GOOD he is: he put himself aside enough to know that Ha Joon needed Yeon Doo right then, and he put Ha Joon first.
In the last scenes I don't think Yeol is angry at Ha Joon, I think he's frustrated and doesn't know what to do. He doesn't want to hurt Ha Joon but if Ha Joon is dropping cheerleading (something that Yeol knows is helping him) due to Yeol's relationship with Yeon Doo, then he has to rip the band-aid off and figure this out. He's willing to turn a blind eye to some things, but this is a showstopper and if he doesn't address it now, it'll be a permanent feature of his two closest friendships. So he has to fix it now, even if it's awkward and it hurts.
As for Yeol's dad, honestly I think that's a knee-jerk reaction too - he's used to his dad acting unilaterally and without apparent thought for Yeol, so he's getting out in front of this quick and trying to dismiss the marriage. Again, Yeol is pretty smart: he sees the outcome and although it's ruthless, he's trying to shut down an event that would permanently end him and Yeon Doo. Negotiation can come later, he's making sure he won't get steamrolled.

yeah, the biggest tell that Yeol's outburst isn't about jealousy at all is the fact that he HAS felt jealous of Yeon-doo and Ha-joon before, and said so directly (when he was trying to aegyo her in episode 9).
But when the actual backhug happens, Yeol lets it happen, doesn't say a thing about it, is there for him afterwards (like you said, as a brother and not a romantic rival), and prioritises Ha-joon's wellbeing all the way. And despite being unable to figure out quite what to do, doesn't force an admission from Ha-joon about it because the only solution he had was to just keep quiet about it and let Ha-joon work through his feelings in private, without the inevitable discomfort and pain that would be the result of forcing it into the open between them.
But then Ha-joon pulls out of cheerleading, and like you said, that's the red flag to Yeol indicating that Ha-joon was pulling away, and THAT was the point at which he stopped waiting and decided the only thing to do was have it out in the open. Because the quitting is what changed Yeol's mind, not about trusting his friend, but about whether silence was the right policy - he'd previously seen it as an opportunity for Ha-joon to heal on his own terms, but in the context of Ha-joon quitting, silence about those feelings probably seemed like it would just result in a lot of festering emotional wounds for Ha-joon.

Also agreed on Yeol's dad - like Yeol says, he decides things on his own without considering Yeol's opinion first, and was apparently planning on dropping his engagement on his son as a fait accompli without so much as a hint that he'd been dating.
In a way, the parental marriage issue is more an issue of betraying and eventually winning their kids' trust - especially Yeol . It's not so much about the specifics about whether Yeol and Yeon-doo can date, once you get past the surface. Yeol reacted in the face of what he saw as a fresh betrayal by his father, and while I don't believe in kids dictating their parents' lives, I do believe in parents at least keeping their almost-grown children in the loop about major things like, well, dating someone seriously enough to consider marriage. Can't say I blame Yeol, myself.

yeesss you're spot-on about yeol's reaction to his dad. he wasn't being a demanding brat; yeol's believed for years that his father acts without concern or care for his own opinion, so this new supposed betrayal would have obviously sparked a strong response from him, given that this time it directly affects his relationship with yeon-doo. i mean, his dad did keep it as a secret from him for years, so you can't really blame yeol for seeing it as another betrayal.

THIS, right here. What you said here, is like how it mirrors episode 9 and 10, like what Yeol is doing here was like what he did on Yeon Doo's situation as well. He let Yeon Doo deal with Soo Ah on her own situation knowing that it would make her feel better that way, even on his own behalf. But once they're alone, he would discuss it with her on their own private discussion. It's similar to what he's doing here with Ha Joon. It shows how much he trust these two with the choices they choose to do, but once these two goes out of hand, he would stop them too. So I think Yeol is one of the most mature characters out of all characters in the show. He respects the people he cherishes (especially Yeon Doo and Ha Joon), but once they do a big thing without him knowing, he would definitely stop them or either back them up in a safer way.

Hehe... Despite my complaints, I can't help but be happy for Soo Ah clawing her way out of her mom's clutches with the one trait that I've always felt was her best: her dogged tenacity! She doesn't have the easiest path back upward but at least she doesn't have to walk around like she's made of acid and razors anymore.
Honestly, despite the fact that the show used her as a conflict ball for way too long, I think it did do quite well at letting us know where she came from and why she made the choices she did. And the team welcoming her back despite their misgivings was good, I think - these sorts of things are a two way street but I think Soo Ah wouldn't ever have had the gumption to take the first step. The shame had to have been massive, especially for someone who had been denying her conscience for as long as she had. Someone else had to do it first, and in style, or else she would have simply left thinking that she deserved to be alone. And she wouldn't have been wrong! That's just not an easy burden to bear. I'm glad the kids thought of her, even if they still weren't okay with what she did.
Also completely here for YD messing with Y with everything she's got and sticking to her guns even though they're officially an item. I don't have any real analysis on this, I just love her spunkiness a lot. She's a great, strong kid and an excellent character, and a joy to watch every time.

(is not on point, I just summed it) She said : " I know my faults, and so, I'm going and should back to school and earns my own forgiveness from my friends, and they 'will' forgive me one time, I know it for sure'
She knows how to take responsibility by facing it, (even tho encourage by the videos first) not runnn pump kicking like her assyy mom did, and knows well her friends hasn't forgive her justify from her suicide attempt. Soo ah does has brainy brain.

Another great episode.
I was fine with Yeol yelling at Ha Joon, not just because he was mad at him for liking Yeon Doo, but for being quiet about it and suffering on his own. It's consistent with how both boys work.

Exactly - it's consistent with their personalities as well as their previous actions. And it takes a lot for Yeol to get to that point, literally the only times he has ever lost control and snapped like that was when Ha-joon or Yeon-doo were in danger. Only this time, the danger is from themselves, it's the prospect of Ha-joon being unable to bear seeing his bff and bro with the girl he likes.
And yeah, part of why Yeol is angry is because of that childhood promise and why Ha-joon didn't feel like he could tell him about the girl he likes, when the time came.

Oh lalaland, where do I start? Or how can I start when u make this drama so jjang alreadeh?
And this eps, you just outdid yourself. Proving this drama should have an award already. Too much good things and best momentum in this eps (well basically every episode has).
-Soo-Ah's dramas wrapped tightly, neatly, and make senses, that's most important.
-1,2,3 couple is damnn cuteeeeee I squeeze sponges :)
-Okay, I can't even bear to look at my Ji Soo always broke down in front of my eyes, when I promised to protect him from being book dongie. Oppa miane..or dongsaeng?
What I loved the most from SGG, the stakes they dare to bring us is so much high and real, but at the same time, how the loose ties tight together is so efficient and smarty ass, too efficient till fans can judge is too rollercoaster for them. But, is not.
The efficiency of their happy ending always, always coming from bumpy and heart torn's ache, and never easy road. Baekho & Real King's members, each and every one of them, especially Yeong Do, earns their own happy ending by taking a shortcut yet super painful road from their own mistake.
Their painful shortcut way is always what adults derived always from, "facing the truth, mirror your fault, take your fall and own up your responsibility" .
That are what make them the most truthful youth, not just for everyone around them, but to themselves. Even Soo Ah dares to man up herself rejecting to follow her Hitler Mommy's map.
Ha Joon's case will be on next ep.
Okay why I write this as in this is the last eps for my super heartfelt drama of the year?
I will continue my super long rant for the final round :((

I know right? It's such a good episode, and it happens after wrapping Soo Ah's story which was the main issue up to now. So many dramas have nothing to fill their last eps with but Sassy Go Go is not one of those.

Also, the way YeolDoo decided to face the truth and tell each other's parents, instead of their own parents, I think that was a smart move from Yeon Doo's plan. Because talking to each other's parents is better for their parents to at least under-stand a bit more about their their children from the other's point of views instead of from their own children's point of views. So I think what Yeon Doo and Yeol did there was mature and smart of them facing each other's parents. Also, it was for them to understand each other's parents as well. I see why they did that haha
Soo Ah really earns much of my respects through this episode :) How she received the encouragements from her friends through the videos, made her have the courage to step up to her mom and face the truth of what she knew what's going to be ahead of her. I really respect that she went back to school, accepts her punishments, and faced her friends even if she knows that they will not easily forgive her, but it was better than running away and keep on following her mom's bait on her.
For Ha Joon's case, his case will be impressed as well in the next episode :)

It is weird how i DO NOT WANT THIS DRAMA TO END!! Since it started, I literally lived for the show (Not to talk of how fast it was being subbed on Viki. God, I love that subbing team). Also, about N, I actually felt he acted well. He was meant to be awkward and cute and AWKWARD! and he was.. I do not get netizen's backlash against him. But this drama, OMG, after Healer, Sassy GOGO def has my heart. Come to think of it, I have not been this insane over a drama since Healer (and to think they are such opposite genres) xD

Yes, I also do not understand the backlash, it's in his character to be blank and to react in that way; if anything else it means is that he's good at acting. Why are they confusing acting skill with the character? How else is a blank/poker-faced character supposed to be? Happy happy joy joy?

i've never seen N act in anything else before, and I don't follow VIXX so I don't know how he normally acts in real life either, but I feel like he really suited the character here. Dong-jae's personality makes the awkwardness and blank expressions come across as very natural and not at all forced, regardless of whether or not they were actually a result of good acting LOL, so I really don't have a problem with him in SSG. Maybe it just so happened that he finally scored a role that used this awkwardness to his benefit haha.

Thanks LollyPip!
Lovely show all round and this was a great episode to lead into the finale. I can't say enough what a rare treat this show has been and how thankful I am that this short and simple drama has elevated itself to being so much more than just a teen show about cheer-leading.
The character growth and Soo Ah's taking her chance to make things right in the right spirit of remorse has been wonderful. I love how, as is meant to happen in all shows, the conflict really did bring about character growth. So much better than shows where conflicts led to nothing much and left us hanging. If there's any one thing I want to shout kudos about is that this show does not leave much hanging or for too long... and of course kudos for the wonderful pairing of Kim Yeol and Yeon Doo. One couple I will not forget. :)

YeolDoo = ❤❤❤ They're so functional and mature as a couple too, for 18-year-olds. They literally just resolved a recurring k-drama conflict (dreaded oh-no-we-can't-be-together-for-reasons-plot) in less than an episode whereas 20-something supposedly adult couples in other shows take an entire run to do!

I know, right? Those two are seventeen years old (since they're eleventh graders and Korea adds a year or two to their ages - and Yeon-doo's birthday is in November so she might not even be actually seventeen yet, ha) but they don't even try the standard immature things that adults do in kdramas, like pretending they don't like each other or acting like noble idiots over a huge, potentially relationship-ending dilemma like maybe becoming siblings.
But Yeon-doo's little Lady&TheTramp-esque ramyun daydream and her flailing right off the bed about it just killed me. I love a girl who doesn't waste an opportunity to fantasise about her crush in close quarters, oppa or no. (and her voice in that daydream, lmao I almost died @her calling him 'oppa')

@GB - I agree, so much. Unexpected gems like Sassy Go Go are rare in dramaland, and this one is even more astonishing considering it has NONE of the usual ingredients of a hit drama - the cast are all relative rookies with only Jung Eunji and Ji-soo being somewhat known in kdrama circles, it's not an adaptation of anything, and it's not even like it's by a superstar writer or PD.
Though a quick look at d-addicts revealed that the PD was also behind Trot Lovers, which tickles me despite how terrible that drama was - they must have really liked Eunji, to want her back so soon.
I loved how Soo-ah's arc was handled, too. She wasn't let off the hook, and she'd have taken a zero on her midterm just like Yeol did because of her. And she's genuinely trying to change her attitude, and growing so much from it. I'm so glad the girls reunited <3

What earned my respect for Soo Ah was 1) that she stood up to her mum whom she'd been trying so hard to please and told her that she'd make it to the top on her own, without following anyone's road map, and she stuck to it. Even Director Lee was proud of her for deciding to do this by herself.
And 2) when she had to humbly enter that room and apologised to everyone face to face, admitting her wrongs, (she forgot to apologise to Saem Yang!) and willing to take punishment. She really grew up and gained self-respect and the respect of her peers.
I kind of wish there was an Episode 13 just to have the sisterhood of Soo Ah and Yeon Doo given more screen time, and the bromance too of course. Can't stop smiling about this show!

Haha! Same here! 20% and even more!
Realistically though, Sassy should have gotten at least roughly the same ratings as School 2015's (7~8%).
Come to think of it, SGG is seriously everything I wanted School 2015 to be! (Not that I'm completely discrediting the latter, but aside from KSH, YSJ and JSH, I can't remember anything else that left an impression on me.)
I'm just thinking out loud here, but what if THIS was School 2015? Do you think it would've performed better ratings-wise? S2015 was imo mediocre but it didn't really tank, and idk if it's because of the actors or the fact that it's a School title (added prestige).
I guess SGG just had bad timing, competing against 50-episode sageuk/makjang shows. But we're fortunate that it turned out so nicely despite the odds!

I am always Team Yoel (actually I shipped her with four guys, Yoel, HaJoon, N and the teacher {kinky stuff} XD) but I think this crush was necessary for him.. to learn how to love. Even though it hurts so bad... but he needs to learn how to love someone (i do not think he loves his folks at this point. I wouldn't. DO not get me wrong, my African parents hit me too. But there is discipline and there is abuse. And this is abuse). Also, here is a good compromise: The parents do not legally get married but they continue dating and then both couples can keep dating happily?? How do they plan on solving this one?? And besides, these four are used to breaking the norm anyway. They can just all date and to hell with the societal rules -___-

I agree, the only person Ha Joon ever loved before this, was Yeol - as a friend who is like a brother to him, and to whom he is forever loyal. But they have no one but each other..... before the cheerleading that is. And now they have more friends, and true friends, but Hajoonie's crush on YD opens him up to experience a different kind of love, even if it's one sided this time. He grew as a person from knowing her, just as Yeol did. And it will make him a stronger person in the future <3

I agree. It is very necessary for Ha Joon to learn how to love, in a new way, of course, even if it's a painful one-sided love, it's grateful for him to experience a new way of love.
I would say, it's not only him and Yeol who have grown up and changed by knowing her, Yeon Doo, herself, also changed and grown up by knowing Yeol too. Just like the boys, before the cheerleading thing and before knowing Yeol, she was very impetuous and impulsive, and just did everything her heart tells her to do without thinking twice about what consequences would bring her, I would say she was too reckless of herself, but after she became close with Yeol, she learned to balance her mind and heart so that she won't hurt the people she cherishes. She became more calculative and careful with her actions, and she also grew to become a more mature, considerate, and calm young adult. She even noticed that about herself too :)

Having watched the last episode, I won't spoil anything but will say that overall, this episode and the last, really just felt like they were rushing the plot.
Literally Episodes 1-10 have been about SOO AH. Cheerleading wasn't even a backdrop, more so a severely misplaced after thought..I think the directors themselves forgot that the drama was based around a cheerleading team.
That being said, I don't think the drama is bad and was done well if we take it at face value...it's another School 2013/2015.

As I said in an earlier comment, Soo-ah has been the main driving force of conflict in this drama, but the story has also been building up the potential conflict of Ha-joon's feelings and his and Yeol's initial unawareness of them, for more than half its run now - it didn't come out of nowhere. And it is a serious conflict, since if the boys went about it the wrong way it could derail their friendship, which is the very core of the show.
And yeah, this show isn't really about cheerleading - I think we should have all got the memo long ago that it was about friendship, the cheerleading is just what gave them the first push towards each other.

I don't know how this drama does it, but they keep doing things I DO NOT WANT....... and making me love it in the end because the execution is just that good. Soo-ah's forgiveness/redemption angle? Check. Parental dating angle? Check. Love triangle? CHECK (and how!)
I don't mind that we've more or less wrapped the major part of Soo-ah's story which was the main conflict driver for a while (and it was done in a way that I buy - the other kids need her to prove that she's not the same arrogant spec-stacker she was before, and cleaning duty is one start), and now we have a conflict of a different, but equally emotionally engaging nature threatening our main trio. The love triangle has been bubbling under for a while, and while so many of us feared it for its potential to derail the friendships formed between the three, it's also brought out something extra in the Yeol/Ha-joon dynamic, which I really appreciate.
(and I love how the background friendships and bonds between the Baek-ho/Real King kids haven't faded away either - I had a good giggle at Tae-pyung getting jealous over Da-mi's blind date who wasn't him!)

Also, I couldn't disagree more with the final take on Yeol in that last scene.
He doesn't know that Ha-joon's father is the reason why he dropped cheerleading - and he has no immediate way to make the connection, since there was some gap in time between dear ol' dad dragging Ha-joon away to beat him up, and Teacher Im doesn't actually indicate in front of Yeol that Ha-joon's being called out of practice because of his dad. As far as Yeol or any of the other kids know, their parents are all on board with the cheerleading for specs reasons, so it doesn't even occur to him that Ha-joon's dad is the threat here.
What he does know is that Ha-joon is struggling with his feelings for Yeon-doo, is feeling serious guilt towards him about it (the infirmary apology 'for everything'), and suddenly, barely a day after the backhug, Ha-joon pulls out of the activity that brought them all together.
Yeol is nothing if not logical, and logic+the information available to him tells him that Ha-joon's feelings for Yeon-doo and the resultant guilt, are the reason for this. And he's mad at himself for not noticing sooner, and also in a way for having gone so far with Yeon-doo that there's no chance of pulling back and reconfiguring the three of them in a way that doesn't hurt either Yeon-doo (who likes Yeol, and has never had eyes for anyone else) or Ha-joon, who's suffering because of his feelings and was, at the moment of the backhug, pushed beyond his limits by his father's abuse.

oh, and can I just say how much I adore Yeol/Yeon-doo as a couple? They just discovered this major, potentially relationship-ending thing and do they mope and cry and be noble idiots about it? NO. They talk to each other (kdrama anomaly strike 1), formulate a clear and articulate plan (ok, this is Yeol's plan but still - kdrama anomaly strike 2) and then speak directly to their parents instead of beating around the bush (kdrama anomanly strike 3). And I love Yeol's jealousy too, because he doesn't actually dictate a single thing Yeon-doo does - SHE gets to set that agenda, and he follows.
I also loved our Ha-joon/Yeon-doo moments, starting from her catching him for advice about her "friend" both times (and I probably fainted a little inside at the unintentional/indirect confession about him liking "girls like that") to the backhug. It just worked so perfectly in that moment, poor Ha-joon's been trying to work around his feelings ever since discovering Yeol and Yeon-doo kissing in the hospital, but he was so badly in need of comfort, I don't blame him for giving in to the urge just then.

Actually, the plan of meeting each other's parents was Yeon Doo's plan, after she discussed about it with Ha Joon.
That's what I love about Yeol/Yeon Doo's relationship. They actually started off being friends first, while also having interest in each other. They have always been straightforward and communicative with each other since the beginning. Yeon Doo was the first and only person that Yeol was being openly flirtatious to, that was the start of him being open to someone, despite knowing his trust issues. There are 3 girls in Baek Ho, but he didn't seem to show or have any glimpse of having interest in them, but we can scratch Soo Ah out since they hated each other's guts, so Yeon Doo was clearly the first and only person that he opened up to by being flirtatious, but after learning so much about her, he became so earnest and honest with her and shows her his real side. But the episode that Yeol's true personality starts to appear publicly in front of everyone (that only Ha Joon and Yeon Doo sees) was from episode 8, after he came back to school from being accused. I also love how both of them changed each other to become better people, they influenced each other and brought the best sides of each other and they've grown by knowing each other. They also confronted and confides in each other in a way that other people can't, which made both of earned each other's trusts and respects.
I also love the dynamics of Yeon Doo/Ha Joon's "friendship" as well. These two also shares their own confidantes too, in a way that Yeol also doesn't know about how they've became close with each other haha Like how Yeon Doo slowly opens her true sides to him, like her indomitable loyalty, kindness, honesty, then her fragile and vulnerable sides, and then her trusts and comfortably confide in him. Also, him respecting her, looking out to her, protecting her, opening himself to her, admiring her. She was probably also the first to see through his tough exterior and straight-forwardly said it out to him. The progress of these two grew to become the most emotional pair haha

"I don’t know how this drama does it, but they keep doing things I DO NOT WANT……. and making me love it in the end because the execution is just that good."
THIS, SO MUCH. Every time a new conflict pops up, I'm like "ooh noo I don't think that's a good idea Show", but they always manage to turn it around in the end and make me love it somehow anyway. I was iffy about the parental dating plot, I didn't know how Soo-ah was going to be redeemed believably, and I sure as hell did NOT want that love triangle either, but in the end, they managed to resolve everything beautifully anyway. It's such a bewildering relief, because all of these conflicts are admittedly just your standard kdrama tropes and they all had the potential to derail into your typical half-hearted resolutions and kdrama angst, but in Sassy Go Go's case, they were treated with a very refreshing kind of execution.

I know, right?! There are all these huge, potentially show-ruining tropes just waiting to blow up in our faces, but they were defused with such finesse or spun around in completely unexpected ways, I'm really impressed.
The love triangle was one of the ultimate examples of this. At first I was all "I don't want any love triangles, it will ruin the bromance and ruin the drama!', and then they did the love triangle and it DIDN'T ruin anything and I loved it, but then I thought "as long as Ha-joon keeps it inside and doesn't wreck things between them by letting Yeol know" and then they did reveal it, and it is ripping me up inside but I still love it so. Kudos to the SGG team for that!

I know, there are so many potential landmines waiting to blow up but the story gets a treatment that ensures they just never do.
I actually think the love triangle was my favourite of these, because I honestly didn't see it coming - Sassy Go Go didn't promote Ji-soo as a traditional second lead before the drama began, so it's not like the casting/cast designation was a clue to anything either. And neither did they say anything about him falling for Yeon-doo, I firmly believe that was a thing that got added to the story at a later stage.

Pls don't compare it with school 2015, this show is on a much higher level than school 2015.
School 2015 started well, but ended with just fanservice throlling of romance. Lots of unsatisfactory threads with regards to bullying, and eun bi standing up for oneself instead of just letting eun go do everything, and even in the love square resolution *face palm*
Just watched finale for sassy go go. It is good, very satisfied. Throughout the whole show they have been bringing out issues and trying to resolve issues. And while most of the issues are grey and have no definite right or wrong answers, it at least attempts to find remedies or highlight the effort an individual can do to rectify the thorns. And the ending for this show is worth 5 stars :)

yeah, don't even get me started on School 2015.
- popular twin vanished? yeah, she was just chilling in an orphanage - or some unspecified location - for a month with no word to anyone, never mind that her sister's supposed to be dead.
- no one bothers to do a DNA test on the supposed 'corpse' of Eun-bi that washed up in the river, because apparently name tags are conclusive evidence of identity that can't, you know, just be pinned onto a different dead girl's shirt
- apparently trainee teachers get to stalk and terrorise their students with NO consequences because grief excuses all.
yeah, don't even get me started. Sassy Go Go is too good to even be mentioned in the same breath as this nonsense.
- when the missing twin comes home, she decides going abroad to study is more important than, you know, getting to know/spend time with the twin she's just met for the first time.

In comparison, I am SO happy with how Sassy has handled its triangle situation, I couldn't have asked for better.

I have to say that the low ratings may have helped preserve the writer's vision and intentions. No fan-servicey plot twists and while I love this show a lot and would have loved to spend more time with these characters, an extension would have dragged down a clearly well-planned story.

Interesting to think of it that way, but in a way, you're right - they really had nothing to lose, and I love that the writer just stuck to their guns and told what looked like the story they wanted to tell, rather than succumb to external pressures by chasing PPL.
(oh, and there's very little PPL in this drama either. I hope that doesn't mean they're short of budget, but the Samsung phone debit card thing that Yeol used at the convenience store is the first PPL I actually registered)

Thanks for the summary, as always! I love DB! I love that the final story is about Ha Joon. I was wondering if they were going to skip over him and would've been upset if they didn't address his abuse issue. As lightly presented this drama is, it definitely deals with some serious issues. It nearly broke my heart to see Ha Joon sitting there alone while Yeol and Yeon Doo were on their movie date. Poor puppy...
Now, I completely disagree on the take on Yeol.
First, I don't think Yeol was yelling at Ha Joon bc Ha Joon likes Yeon Doo. I think he's upset that his friend is choosing to bear that burden on his own and not talking to him - his BFF - about it. I think it's a combination of guilt, helplessness and just a tad bit of betrayal that Yeol is acting on. Kind of like, "we're best friends, how could you not tell me you liked her too." He probably knows there's nothing he can actually "fix" about Ha Joon liking Yeon Doo but I think he feels horrible about causing (or at least thinking he is causing) Ha Joon to give up on something he really enjoys - the cheerleading club. Whether that should have translated to anger - who knows, but people react angrily in situations where they feel helpless and guilty. And a person like Yeol who is always in control and smart enough to solve thru any problems (do he believes) a helpless situation is probably one he can't cope with. We saw Yeol get angry at Yeon Doo when she went missing and was found. He himself said that anger was really at himself but he misdirected it at her. I think it's the same here. Yeol feels helpless, guilty, angry at himself for liking Yeon Doo too and possibly not realizing his friend's feelings, so his immediate reaction is to react in anger towards Ha Joon. But Yeol is mature and has his head on straight. Once he calms down, he'll be there for his friend and he'll do the right thing. I have faith in him.
Second, I don't think he was asking his dad to stop dating Yeon Doo's mom for real. I think he was being cynical and basically throwing it back at his dad. He says, "why is my opinion important. It's not like you asked for my opinion when you divorced, when you left me at grandmas, when you came back to get me, you never asked for my opinion before, so why all of a sudden? Ok, so if I told you to stop dating Yeon Doo's mom, would you?" That's exactly what he said. So he was basically throwing it back at his dad and saying, you'll do what you want irrespective of what I think, so why act like you care about my opinion. Given their history, I think Yeol's reaction is understandable and legitimate. His dad probably goes care what Yeol thinks but his dad has never shown it so why should Yeol trust him to care now. For Yeol, it's always about trust I think.
Anyway, I can't believe there is only 1 ep left. I have faith in this show to wrap it up all nice and clean all with a happy ending though. So, Go Sssy Go Go, Go!!

It feels so good to have some level headed commenters on here. I've just been so disappointed with this community especially the Viki one for nothing but hatred towards Yeol. He yells at Ha Joon once and gets nothing but hate and being told, you need to be a better friend. But Ha Joon who's hid his feelings for Yeon Doo this entire time and kept quiet about his own pain and resentment and hurt gets love? Even when he back-hugs his friend's girlfriend?
Come on, this is Korea. When has a backhug between two members of opposite sexes with one character who likes the other ever been anything else besides romantic? Ha Joon wouldn't back hug just anyone. And yet even after seeing this, Yeol still patches up his friend and worries about him and waits for Ha Joon to come and tell him the truth instead of attacking him right away. If this was a crappier drama, Yeol would have rushed in to the infirmary and punched Ha Joon and declared an end to their friendship. But yep, let's keep on being mad that Yeol yelled at him.
Honestly, my biggest disappointment is that people seem to equate Ha Joon with Bok Dong. I've never seen Ji Soo in Angry Mom so I feel like I'm able to get a clearer grasp on his character as opposed to people who see Ha Joon and feel pity that he didn't get the girl he loved in his last show. The two are different chars yet repeatedly, I see the same comments hoping that Bok Dongie will finally get the girl. Different dramas, people, with different universes - people need to stop equating the two as the same char.
Ji Soo plays Ha Joon wonderfully but I'm really done with seeing people pity Ha Joon. Nothing but comments about "oh, poor kid" and "I feel pity for him" or "he just needs a good woman to love him". Things like that irritate the heck out me as I used to be one of those troubled kids and there was nothing I hated more than people pitying me. People who pitied me only saw me as a victim and never saw me as anything else. They would make pretty noises about my pain and extend their fake sympathy until I needed help or lashed out at them when I was hurting and then I would be cut off from their friendship and being told that I was dangerous and a bad person.
Ha Joon will be alright because he has friends who care and who won't cut him off at the knees even when they fight and adults who would be willing to help if he held out his hand. So stop feeling pity for him, damnit. Start feeling angry on his behalf and cheer him on that he'll find the strength within himself to leave or confront his father.

THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS. Seriously.
I loved Ji-soo in Angry Mom and while I can see how Ha-joon has strong similarities to his earlier character, it's mildly ridiculous that some people can't separate the two.
It's also unfair to him as an actor, that so many of us seem unable to appreciate his performance in SGG on its own merits because of his earlier performance in Angry Mom. (I personally have no problem with it because I left AM behind months ago, but seriously, the treating of the two characters as one and the same needs to stop). It's Seo Ha-joon, not Go Bok-dong, who is Yeol's best friend and brother, and who is so important to him.

Anyone that thinks kim yeol is wrong for momentarily getting angry and shouting at ha joon is dorai, warped thinking and completely biased.
If hajoon had hugged yeon do frontwise it could be interpreted as comforting devoid of feelings but a backhug come on that clearly says i like you. If you saw your girl being backhugged by another man would you be ok,it's worse if its your bestfriend.i think kim yeol handled it very maturely, he didn't even confront him immediately but instead went to help him, that's a superpower, i don't think its possible to be that rational after seeing that.

YES. I loved Bok-dong, but Ji-soo playing a troubled kid does not equate to Ji-soo playing Bok-dong in every single drama ever. Ha-joon might have some similarities, but in the end he is an entirely different character with completely different relationships, and people need to realise that. I feel like the reason why so many people are calling Yeol selfish is because they still see Ha-joon as Bok-dong, and now that ~their Bok-dongie~ has been hurt, they choose to forget how a) Yeol very logically came to this conclusion, b) how Yeol acted straight after the backhug and c) the fact that they're best friends. Which honestly makes Yeol's reaction pretty natural imo.

I was actually perplexed at some of the reactions towards Yeol (Viki, mostly) in this episode (the fact that I love Yeol and LWG's perfect portrayal of him too much to even be capable of being angry at him helped lol).
Yup, people equate Ha Joon to Bokdongie almost excessively, that any kind of offense done against him is taken as a grave personal insult. Yeol yells at him ONE TIME, and it isn't even out of mindless spite, and suddenly people are all "HOW COULD YOU, YEOL? HE'S YOUR BFF!"
I really thought people would give Yeol more credit than that. :( We all know he's never going to do anything that would seriously hurt Ha Joon.

You know, I remember thinking weeks ago that this drama was doing things in a way that suggested it deserved to be judged on its own merits instead of what we anticipated it would do based on past kdrama tropes.....and that goes for our assessment of the actors too. I loved Bok-dongie, but Seo Ha-joon isn't him, and I don't need him to be Bokdongie to love him, even if the roles are similar - does that make sense?
I just wish we could all love Ha-joon for himself, instead of treating him as Bokdongie mk. II. (sure, there are similarities - which is why Ji-soo needs to take on a different kind of role soon, I'd hate to see such a talented young actor typecast because of his breakout role. It's already happened to Eunji to some degree, but it's not a good thing for them as actors)

So on the Soo Ah topic: yaaaas to all that happen in episode 11 pertaining to her. Good for her to standing up to her well intention?(can I even say it at this point in the game) and insane mother. Who, by the way still has not changed her ways despite her daughter just attempted suicide. Soo Ah is right, she has followed her mother’s road map for her all this time and where did that lead Soo Ah? Right, oh yeah, pushing down her ex friend down the stairs.
I literally cheered out loud in audible whoops when Soo Ah said she will get to the Ivy Leagues in her own way and by her own might. Hell yeahs girl, you can still shoot for the Ivy League, because ironically, you actually have impact now after all that has gone down, which is why things kinda went down in the first place: for you to get impact, because you were such a boring nerd who just had good grades.
Your story, despite might make seem like a maniacal insane person who has no morals most of the time, would make a damn good hell of a college essay. I can just see the “character development”, haha, get it?
I am so glad Soo Ah went back and said proper apologies to the victims of her dastard plans. Ugh her arc is satisfactory now despite the improbability of it only about an episode ago. Let us now be content that Soo Ah gets, at this point, the hundredth chance to make things right; for her to earn the saving that she gets from the people that cares about her. Because at the slim seconds of the first episodes, she and Yeon Do were adorable as bffs.
Okay, onto Yeon Do and Yeol. They are so so squee worthy adorable this episodes. All their interactions hit me in the feels and satisfied all the emotions that I had when I wrote fan fiction in my head about them after binging the episodes, scrolling their their tags in Tumblr(liking pretty much all the gif posts pertaining to them), and crying in feels through Youtube fan made mvs.
I was glad that they still have that fun banter between them. I was a bit worry that they might have that awkwardness in their interactions after THE KISS, just like when Yeol confessed to Yeon Do. But nope, Yeol is still trolling Yeon Do as ever and Yeon Do is all anxious about their movie date but Yeol actually had it specially planned out with balloons and everything, so cute.
Another aspect of this drama that I like is that Yeon Do best friend is Dong Jae and Yeol gets so jealous of the Strawberry milk that he poses Banana milk to have a place in Yeon Do’s milk interaction. Oh the LOL moment where Yeol and Ha joon was like, what is up with the strawberry milk, and the other is like right? dude? LOL.
Okay, I have been putting it off long enough. We can’t escape the topic of Ha Joon, our puppy when it comes to the otp , because really its the ot3 that makes this drama the drama. Oh Ha joon-ah~~~ I can’t help but whimper in sympathy for his ailment of a life.

Please let the actor plays a character that gets the girl and is happy and not just compromised in the near future, because puppy is breaking my heart. When Yeol told him about liking Yeon Do, Ha Joon looked so heartbroking but still gave his support to his best friend/brother from another mother. When Yeol asked was there nothing else, I yelled out “ yeah oh course nothing else besides he loves and adored your girlfriend and just found out that you guys are dating? that his life right now has no vindication with his shitty abusive father and unrequited love????!!!”
When Ha Joon crumpled up his report card, I was like “ No no we just had just gone through one Soo Ah, we don’t need a second one.” But then Ha Joon is nothing like Soo Ah, in that the only one to truly suffer or suffer at all is him. I just want to second ship just to make him feel better. I mean every time that the camera has him sitting alone, and sad just make me question of whether the ships will switch or the writer just loves Ha Joon so much but not enough but also want to make the rest of us suffer vicariously because of how downtrodden Ha Joon is.
Thats why I was so pissed off when Yeol was like is Yeon Do the reason Ha Joon left the cheerleading squad because he had found out about Ha Joon’s feelings for Yeon Do. I was like “ what, of you bastard you did not just say that to the puppy, don’t yell at him, like you don’t even know, you don’t even know anything and just how dare you, I still love you Yeol but you are lucky you are pretty because I want to just sock you in the face right now. He just backhugged her while he was in pain and in the lowest moments of his life. Like how dare you just ugh. You will so regret it you bastard. Make up with the puppy now and save him from his desolate life, adopt him, i THINK YOUR DAD IS RICH ENOUGH. And Ha Joon doesn’t even eat that much seeing how skinny he is.
How is everything going to be solved in one last episode? All I know it that there better not be any noble idiocy, better not be Yeon Do and Yeol staring at each other smiling after a long period of separation and then end credits, Ha Joon better be vindicated and Yeon Do and Yeol better not be step siblings. I don’t care that it’s just a high school romance compared to the adult romance between their parents. I went through Love Rain with this whole dilemma , don’t need another drama for this drama.

About Yeol, I think there's a serious misunderstanding here - he doesn't know that Ha-joon's father has threatened the club (and has no way to even guess, since the school basically sweet-talked the other Baek-ho parents into agreeing to the cheerleading - as far as he knows, it's not a factor.
What he does know/has found out barely a day before, is that his best friend and brother has feelings for his new girlfriend, that he was probably trying to suppress them for Yeol's sake until the latest round of abuse broke his self-control, and that he apologised to Yeol afterwards for it without knowing that Yeol had seen it all. And then a day later, Ha-joon suddenly quits the cheerleading club - the only conclusion left for Yeol to draw is that Ha-joon couldn't bear his guilt or his feelings any more, and left the club because of that. (and keep in mind, Yeol only joined the club and made it happen in the first place because of Ha-joon, since he didn't want the principal to tell his father about the cutting incident and risk Ha-joon being removed from Sevit)
And Yeol's outburst comes across VERY similarly to the way he did when he was yelling at Ha-joon after the cutting incident in episode 2, or Yeon-doo at the start of episode 9. Just like the earlier two times, he's mad at himself - this time for not noticing the signs, and for causing his friend pain, even if it was unintentional.

Thanks for the recap, LollyPip!
I think SA definitely needed saving and so glad she finally stood up to her mom. She also realized that she didn't deserve the forgiveness but needed her friends to give her courage to keep going. I'm fine with the way they wrapped up her story and that YD was the one who always reaches out to SA to help her.
It's good that HJ got the focus of this ep since his story needs to be wrapped up too. It's hard to watch his abusive dad and he can't do anything but to take the beating. =( Yet he still chooses to put his friends and teachers first and quits. When you see his tears and scars, you just wanna give him a big hug to comfort him.
It's funny to watch his scenes with YD when she's so clueless how obvious it is that she's not talking about her friend but herself. Haha... HJ's shy comment about liking those obsessive type girls... So cute. XD
With the last scene between Yeol and HJ, I think like some of you said, it's because he is upset that HJ is distancing himself from Yeol and YD. If anyone else had been backhugging YD, Yeol would've flown down those stairs and punched the dude. Though it might've been better for HJ to have done an arm or shoulder grab instead, the show displayed that HJ had always endured the pain in his own and never accepted any sort of kindness. That's why he got angry easily in the past and pushed people away. YD was the first one besides Yeol who he let into his world, and at that moment, he couldn't deny his need for comfort from a friend and reached out for help. And yes, Yeol was a great friend for letting all that happen and giving them time. He knows exactly how HJ's dad treats him and that's why he was so worried while looking for him. He's definitely got his priorities straight. So, I don't blame him for that final outburst because I think that's how Yeol acts when it comes to people who truly matter to him (like with YD in a previous ep).
Yeol and YD were smart to come up with a plan to talk to their parents. It was good to see the contrast between YD and her mom vs. Yeol and his dad in their relationships. You can sorta see why both Yeol and his dad need someone like YD and her mom. The ladies open up their hearts and make them strive to be better selves. And it goes both ways as YD talked to Yeol's dad what she has learned from Yeol. Anyway, I'm sure the writer will be able to resolve this situation instead of creating more heartache.

yeah, the very fact that Yeol said nothing about the backhug or even indicated that he'd seen it, was him trying to give Ha-joon the time and space to deal with his feelings on his own terms, instead of having Yeol force his hand by demanding an answer directly (and causing him more pain and awkwardness).
It's only when he finds out about Ha-joon dropping out of the cheerleading club (and we would all do well to keep in mind that the principal held Ha-joon's self-harming over Yeol's head, basically saying she'd keep it secret from Ha-joon's dad as long as he and Yeol formed the cheerleading club with the other kids. Yeol and Ha-joon may have come to enjoy the club in its own right now, but the whole point of them initially joining it was to protect Ha-joon.....and now Ha-joon's gone and Yeol doesn't have any way to guess his father was the one responsible for ordering him to quit. So naturally, the conclusion he draws is that Ha-joon did it because of Yeon-doo - and he's at least partially mad at himself for being oblivious to it and causing Ha-joon more pain/influencing his decision to leave.

Exactly! And it sends off an alarm to Yeol when HJ might be retreating to his old ways and just bottling everything inside while suffering on his own. So, Yeol was acting that way from the warning signs since he didn't know HJ's dad played a part in his quitting.

yeah, Yeol's mind goes straight to worst-case scenarios very easily, but he's not that easily shaken. Which is why his going off on Ha-joon is so revealing - he's actually terrified that this is going to cost him his best friend, and that is not acceptable to him.
And imo Yeol actually hid his feelings quite well when he came to the infirmary - while I was watching, I certainly didn't get the impression that he was acting like he'd seen the backhug (which is kind of the point, he has to act normal and not tip Ha-joon off to his own awareness of the situation). I wonder whether LollyPip's assessment of Yeol clearly being bothered is a hindsight thing, because the look on his face could easily be explained by his worry over Ha-joon and his earlier efforts to find him.

But dang!!!! I hate him on this ep!!!

Hajoon would never ever quit the cheerleader thing only because he likes yeondoo!!!
Sigh, such a dissappointment for you yeol.

Oh, I totally think the Ha Joon of two months ago would've quit without a second thought. At that time his one and only relationship was with Yeol, so anything that threatens that has to go.
Yeol sensed backsliding and wigged.

Why the comparison between relationships? One relationship isn't better than the other just because of age. I married my high school sweetheart at a young age and was ridiculed and told that I was too young to know what love is and that we'd end up divorcing. 15 years later and we're still together while as Ive aged, I've seen older couples get married and end up divorcing.
It doesn't matter the age of the couple, only the determination to commit to a marriage and the love that one feels for the other person. When you find love and someone who makes you a better person, you hold onto it. Why should Yeol and Yeon Doo break up just so their parents could get married? Their parents could end divorced, there's no guarantees. Saying that their love is not as strong as their parents solely based on age is ridiculous.

And yeah, I don't see why we have to assume Yeol and Yeon-doo won't last just because they're teenagers. Their relationship has a far more solid foundation than half the adults of dramaland do, to be quite honest.

Them talking to each other was unique, which is sad and funny thing to say...I hope other couples are taking notes. Even when Yeol pulled YD's hand and made her walk away from the interview, they didn't go why, why, why and shout. They gave their opinion and later thought about it and respected it.

All friends fight as do all family members and lovers. It's how they resolve their fight and move on with their relationship that determines the strength of their relationship. I'm sad for you that you don't see that.

One moment that I particularly liked was the day after the backhug when Yeol meets Yeon doo at the bottom of the stairs. He hesitates and searches her face for anything to indicate that she was affected by the back hug. If she registers a forced grin or doesn't meet is eye then he will know that she might have some feelings for Ha Joon. But she smiles so happy to see him and start the day with him that he knows without a doubt that he can trust Yeon doo only has feelings for him.

yeah, I noticed his initial hesitation too - it's sad but sweet at the same time. And it's so in character for Yeon-doo to put it out of her mind after the immediate aftermath, so it works for both their characters.

I also noticed that little hesitation as well. But what I love about that moment between them right there was that, though he still puts that flirtation antics on her, but this time, it's seriously more on the genuine and sincere level of his flirt.

Yeoldoo is love in every way possible. I need them as the OTP in another drama asap. I ship the actors a lot too. I hope all of them became friends in RL :)
I really wish this show had better ratings.

I know, I keep wishing for Ji-soo/Eunji, but I'm actually greedy enough to want a second Lee Won-geun/Jung Eunji pairing, their chemistry levels are wayyy beyond what one ever expects from a high school couple. And they complement each other beautifully as actors, which is why things look so natural between them.

Hey Everybody
Awesome discussion as always!
Just resharing my translation on epilogue of this epi posted by KBS. This might shed clearer light how KSA and especially KY felt in this episode.
친구라서 좋고, 친구라서 싫다 [발칙하게고고]
Because (they are my) friends it’s good, (but) because (he’s my) friend it’s not good
[KSA's part]
#1. 친구라서 좋다
#1. Because (they are) my friends, it’s good
친구와 다투고 나면, 항상 마음이 편하지 않았다.
When I get into fight with my friends, I always don’t feel at ease.
친구를 이겨봤자 남는 게 뭐가 있다고,
Even if I try to win over my friends but what’s left
친구에게 던진 말들이 비수가 되어서 내게 날아와도,
The words that I threw to my friends become like a dagger (and) even (they) can dodge (it) from me
괜한 자존심에 친구에게 먼저 다가가지 않았다.
(Due) to my useless pride, (I) did not approach my friends earlier.
친구들에게 미안하게 된 대부분의 이유는,
Most of the reasons that I want to say sorry to my friends,
내가 비겁했기 때문이었다.
Because I was being coward.
“겁했어! 우리가 얼마나 무서웠는지 알어? 우리가얼마나 많이 놀랐는지 알어?”
“You coward. Do you know how afraid we were (when you disappeared)? Do you know how shocked we were?”
“너 하나 살자고 다른 사람들 다치게 한 거. 진짜나빴다.”
“Letting you live, other people got hurt. You were really bad.”
“나 너 쉽게 용서 못 해!”
“I cannot forgive you easily!”
하지만 친구들은…
But my friends…
내가 이상하게 굴어도, 때론 내가 비겁하게 굴어도,
Even if I behave strangely, even sometimes I behave cowardly,
수아 앞으로 한 달 동안 동아리실 청소 너 혼자 다해라~”
[KYD] Soo-Ah after this you will clean the club room alone for one month ~”
럼 뭐 나도 쉽게 용서해 줄 수 없지. 연습할 때 간식 왕창 쏴라. 주 3회!”
[KY] Then, I also cannot forgive you easily. During training session, you have to treat us plentifully with snacks. For 3 times!”
나 보다 더 나를 잘 알아줬다.
They knew me better than I (know about myself).
얘 이렇게 편하게 자는 거 처음 봐…”
It’s my first time seeing her sleeping at ease like a baby…”
“그 동안 많이 고단했을 거야…”
“All this time she had suffered a lot…”
친구들에게 한없이 고맙다.
I am thankful to my friends infinitely.

[KY's part]
#2. 친구라서 싫다
#2. Because (he’s my) friend it’s not good
친구가 친구라서 싫은 순간이 있다.
Because he’s my friend, I have a time that I hate him.
친구가 좋아하는 사람이
My friend, the person he likes
내가 좋아하는 사람이라는 걸 알아 버렸을 때,
The time I got to know (she is) the person that I like,
친구가 내 친구라는 사실이 참 싫고,
The reality that he’s my friend, I hate it so much,
친구의 마음을 듣지 않아도 너무 잘 알 것 같아서참 싫고,
Even that I know well that I do not listen to my friend’s heart, I hate it so much,
친구에게 아무 말도 못 꺼내고 있는,
(And) that I do not say anything to my friend,
내가 참 싫다.
I hate it so much.
여러분에게 ‘친구’란?
To all of you, what is ‘Friend’?

What is the final episode of ‘’ (to you)?

I have almost never had second lead syndrome. I like both boys but my heart just tugs for hajoon. I will now be a fan of jisoo, so young and yet his crying scene was so natural. Man, i do think if he looked a little older he'd be great for the Cat and Dog adaptation. The character also has a cold guy face, but a caring heart. And in my opinion he looks like jisoo except for the hair, i don't know how he'd look if he grew his hair. But I would also want to see him play happier characters lol, like I'd like to know if he can even speak fast? Haha, I haven't heard him be chatty ever lol. But when he smiles in this drama it makes me believe he can do a completely opposite character

It was good that the kids were upfront about their relationship. And Yeol's reaction was understandable. You don't have to tell your kids you are dating but you should, specially when she is going to be is your neglected kid's step mother.
Yeol shouting was unnecessary but I liked how HJ and Y handled the situation (Ep.12)
Didn't like how Yeol is forever jealous. He is confident that YD likes him but he wants her to spend all her time with him and focus on him. That is unattractive.
And I liked how calmed Soo Ah is now. It is easier to maintain good marks without worrying about being caught. I wish we have her this way few episodes back.

Firstly - I totally agree with all those who understood that Yeol's outburst was fueled by frustration and helplessness.
But all that aside, who else wished that there was a 1,2 3 redo of Episode I couch scene?
Call me shallow - but when Yeol and Yeon Doo were having late night movie date, how brain frying would it have been to have Yeon Doo slip and fall on top of Yeol again ( don't care how or why!) and to have him go =
1. You get off
2. I get up

'Lover' is on Yeol's shirt when they had their late-night date. And I love that diamond black shirt Ha-joon wore. He's indeed a jewel, the show itself is a gem. I'm glad that this episode is mostly about Ha-joon, so I get to see the bromance on fire again one last time. I'm lost at words I can't believe I can't watch them anymore next week.
On a more shallow note : Where can I find a guy like Kim Yeol but like 10 years older?
