Looking for eternal love in Dazzling Temptation

The new posters for MBC’s Dazzling Temptation are as pretty as the last, all lush and dreamy with a hint of sadness. Or maybe more than a little sadness, since the whole production screams melodrama and tears. It’s grand drama all the way, with the poster’s tagline reading “Let’s love, while expecting it will last forever…”

The drama centers around a woman, played by Choi Kang-hee, who is described as a working mom with a 7-year-old daughter who unexpectedly enters the dazzling world of the upper crust. It’s not a world she’d normally have access to, given that she grew up poor, and it looks like she spends some time in prison as well. She had a sweet first love relationship with Joo Sang-wook’s character (their childhood selves are played by Kim Sae-ron and Nam Joo-hyuk), which led to conflict with a jealous third friend (Cha Ye-ryun in adulthood).

Clearly something happened in their high school lives to shake up their friendships and paths, and when we meet them as adults, Joo Sang-wook has become harder and colder. He’s the polished son of an assemblyman and a former political aide to Jung Jin-young, who plays the heartless, ambitious father to Cha Ye-ryun. In their teenage years Joo Sang-wook only had eyes for our heroine, but in the present day we see him in an engagement ceremony to Cha Ye-ryun instead… though I’m sure the tables will turn soon enough once Choi Kang-hee makes a reappearance in their lives.

A 50-episode romance melodrama set in the political world from the writer of Gold Rainbow and May Queen is, admittedly, not quite up my alley — it’s really more like down the highway in maybe a neighboring county, or even state — but the production values look solid and if you’re looking for something to make you angst, Dazzling Temptation could fit that bill. Because I get that while sometimes you want dramas to make you laugh and squee, sometimes you might feel like beating your chest and crying, too. Hey, whatever floats your boat. We’re in a no-judgment zone here! (Okay fine, if we can’t stick to no judging, at least let’s go with silent judging.)

Dazzling Temptation follows Hwajung as MBC’s next Monday-Tuesday drama, premiering on October 5.

This show is definitely not the type of drama I typically like, but I will give this a try because I love both Choi Kang-hee and Joo Sang-Wook.

They are both so beautiful!

Ooooh, looks pretty.

I actually had a dream about Joo Sang-wook last night (no idea why, since I haven't thought about him in ages), so maybe it's a sign that I need to watch this...

Maybe I'll even like Choi Kang-hee this time around. I always want to like her, but every time I end up finding her strangely irritating to watch.

Totally agree with your comment about CKH. I found it too hard to watch her in Protect the Boss. Maybe because she just had plastic surgery and she constantly looked like a deer in headlights. Maybe I can get past that in this drama as I love JSW and I was so disappointed with his last drama with KSA. It really didn't work for me.

I've never been fond of CKH but her acting in "Heart to Heart" showed me that she's actually a really good actress. However, I'm not about to sit through a 50-ep drama because you just know that all of the usual, frustrating Kdrama cliches will be there; I've yet to find any story that couldn't be told well in 16-20 episodes.

Thanks for this info JB.

This is also not my cup of tea, especially a melodrama at 50 episodes!!! However this is one of the times Choi Kang Hee really looks good on her own, and with Joo Sang Wook. This pairing looks much more compatible than some others, so I may just FFD bits to see how it goes.

50 eps of melo?? Goodness, I barely survived Scandal at 36 eps with solid casts in it, and now this? On weekdays no less. Uhh, but I love JSW in melodrama.. *resign2fate*

Simply looking at the title "Dazzling Temptation" you can tell how dramatic this is going to be, haha. I don't think I'll be picking thus up, too many others like Sassy Go Go and Bubblegum and Answer Me 1988 that will be starting soon.

Yeah, I cry enough in Rom/Coms. (Just last week I teared up at 20 Again.) A show that advertises sobbing watchers--I think I'll skip it. Love the cast, though.

My tagline for the show will be "Let's not watch, while expecting it to be full of angst."

I'm glad they're upfront about it, though, I hate it when rom-coms slip it in on you.

Wow these look gorgeous. Totally gorgeous. I'm feeling all the leads. Jung Jin young, Choi Kang hee and Lee Sang Wook (wow dude 3 Dramas a year, just wow) and the younger cast look fab.

Never tried 50+ drama that wasn't period piece/Sageuk. But I love the premise. Can't wait for this!

50 Episode drama's are hard to get around some times..... But Two really good ones to try outside of Sageuk are Yoo Na's Street (my absolute favorite, nothing too crazy and lovable characters that grow through out) and My Daughter Seo Young (w/ Lee Sang Yoon and Lee Bo Young)

I've heard of both dramas! Looks like I'll try out an episode each first, just to feel around them. Thanks!

I hope Joo Sang-wook has gotten his act together. He was pretty horrid in all drama he was in after Medical Top Team. I don't know what happened to him. He used to be good. But his stills here, seem promising. Maybe he just needs to stop doing idiotic comedies.

Choi Kang Hee has finally a decent look and the story sounds interesting, but wow 50 episodes is too much for me.

That poster reminds me of High Society already hahah and then I read the description and we have the the upper class + melodramas. But 50 episodes of melo?? That sounds really tiring LOL.

Choi Kang Hee is a fearless actress - I love that about her. She spares nothing and gives her all. Am loving her in this drama. Joo Sang Wook is an amazingly versatile actor whose mix of strength and gentleness is the perfect blend together with her. Oh my, Mondays & Tuesdays are my favourite days due to Glamorous Temptation! Loving it.
