Jung Eun-ji offered lead in cheerleading drama Sassy, Go Go
by javabeans
Jung Eun-ji (Trot Lovers, Answer Me 1997) may be going back to high school for her next project—she’s currently considering a role in KBS’s cheerleading drama Sassy, Go Go, the new title for the show formerly known as Cheer Up. (It’s not too late to convince KBS to change the name back, is it?)
She’s not confirmed for the show yet, but her reps stated that she’d received the offer and is considering it. It makes sense given that she worked with the PD, Lee Eun-jin, on Trot Lovers last year; that drama wasn’t successful and was riddled with flaws, but I did think Jung Eun-ji was quite good in it (really, without her the show wouldn’t have been worth watching at all). On the downside, this means that Kim Yoo-jung is out, since Jung Eun-ji is up for the same role Kim had reportedly been considering; Kim reportedly had schedule conflicts and couldn’t make it work.
The character is a second-year high school student with a lively, frank personality, which is definitely something Jung Eun-ji could play. She’s popular and is a leader on the cheerleading team, but her terrible grades are her Achilles’ heel in a school environment that puts such emphasis on academic achievement.
KBS must be experimenting with drama lengths, because Sassy, Go Go will be 12 episodes, as will be the drama that precedes it, Strange Daughter-in-Law. If this is a new pattern, I am all for it—I almost always want dramas to be shorter, whether they’re 16 episodes, 20, or more.
Sassy, Go Go will either premiere as a Monday-Tuesday drama in late September or early October (the indecision is likely due to the Chuseok holiday falling in the last week of September, and dramas are often pre-empted, though not always).

That is some serious hair she's sporting in that picture!
I'm all for the casting. She was on that variety show Back to School or whatever (not sure about its English name since I watch it live), and she's super cute and fits in well with real high school students. Plus we all remember how great she was in Answer Me!
And I'm loving the idea of 12-ep dramas. Strange Daughter-in-Law is zipping right along, and I'm really enjoying the pacing.

They should change her hairstyle for this drama, she's a young girl with a beautiful smile but that middle parting just looks too old fashioned.

I second this. The former title seems fit more with the cheerleading theme.

because I'm a fan of her, both as a singer and an actor, I follow the news since this morning (my country time). what's funny about this is when Eunji's agency said that they hasn't confirmed anything yet, but then her leader suddenly posted a congratulatory through her own fan cafe saying about the confirmation. the fans were all surprised and then overwhelmed, yet suddenly the leader deleted her post, and we had to conclude that it is indeed not confirmed yet..
I really wish she will take this drama, I want to see her growing in this field..

She's cool. Wouldn't mind watching it.
But I'm confused about the schedule. If this drama has 12 episodes and the one before it has 12 eps as well, why is the Shin Min Ah/So Ji Sub drama scheduled to air in December? They should be ready to go in the 2nd week of November, or even the first week if they have no break for the mentioned holiday. Is KBS different from KBS2? I see people talking about drama schedules for KBS as if these 2 channels are the same thing. Aren't they?

I LIKE dramas around the 12 EP length.
I feel like 16-20 eps have filler and recaps/ flashbacks.
More than 20 eps and the story drags in the middle.
I simply can't watch over 50+ eps anymore.
I get bored...wrap it up already!
*Bonus* 12 eps doesn't leave much time for the storyline to derail into ridiculous PPL camping trips and shoe-giving.

But i hope this will not end like Trot Lovers. that drama was a mess.. i pray that the writer will do better job this time.. As for unnie i don't have to worry about unnie's acting cause it's jjang... Hopefully this drama become successful and unnie can regain her tittle as THE BEST FEMALE ACTING-DOL....

Yay so happy that an actress of decent age is up for the lead. I was gonna turn away from this drama when I heard Kim Yoo Jung was offered the role. But now I am back in the game.
Lee Hyun Woo is the male lead right. These two would make a gorgeous pair. Cant wait.
Eunji yah accept the role already.

I looooooooooooooove her. Even with a paper bag on her head, I just love her. Beautiful and has this great energy I can't explain. She was crazy in answer me 1997, crazier in That winter, the wind blows. She's awesome. And I can totally see her be the last in her class. Hehehehehehehe

yeah, she isn't the textbook model of Korean-standard beauty but she's got an adorable kitten face and the most gorgeous smile I have ever seen on any Korean celeb, including many far more celebrated beauties.
She kinda reminds me of Daisy Lowe (English model and GORGEOUS girl) when she smiles.

YEEEEEES. Eunji is my ultimate bias AND she's a good actor, when does that ever happen?! And this sounds totally up her alley!
Also YES to 12 episode dramas! Shorter, more tightly written dramas, please!
Beautiful, talented in both singing and acting, my beloved Eunji, please accept the role!

I love her, and she's a better actress than she was given credit for in Trot Lovers. Plus she's only like 20-21, that's still young enough to convincingly pass for a high schooler. (and if Lee Hyun-woo really does sign on as the male lead, they'd make an adorable pair)
But doesn't this drama premiere in like three weeks, they need to get a move on casting and quickly!

Yes, my thoughts exactly. I know the live shoot system usually has really tight production windows, but this is cutting it a little too close. Even though this drama seems light and fluffy in terms of plot, it's also about a cheer squad--which means choreography and stunts.

Pretty sure Lee Hyun-woo isn't up for this drama though? He's being courted for another High School drama being entirely pre-produced for KBS as well. And its airing Mon-tues too I think.

Can Kim Seul Gi play one of her classmates? It would be awesome to have this too in the same project.
Eunji was amazing in Reply, it's hard to make a loud character so cool!
I wish Sungjae could be on this, since he was great in School, but he can't because he will be in SBS The Village.
But Lee Hyun Woo!!! How great it would be!! Hope KBS2 makes a good choice, since the drama seems interesting and this shorter format is better.

Wasn't that interested in this drama before, but if Jung Eun-Ji is a part of the project, I'll definitely check it out. I've liked her in everything I've seen her in--even the shows I didn't particularly enjoy. *cough* Trot Lovers *cough*
This new title, though...yeesh.

I like Kim Yoo-jung but I don't mind the change here. Jung Eun-ji was awesome in Answer me. She can act, she's cute, she can danse. Deal. I hope she'll say yes. And I really hope for a decent male lead!
The drama is scheduled for the end of September... We're already in September those people aren't exactly stressed.

I adore Eun-ji and thin she's easily the best female idol actress out there. I watched all of Trot Lovers for her but hopefully this a much better outing and with a costar who has some chemistry with her. I won't even nominate anyone, just cast someone good, please!
