Two Weeks, 49 Days writer pens new rom-com for tvN

Okay, you’ve got my attention. Hit writer So Hyun-kyung of Two Weeks, My Daughter Seo-young, 49 Days, Prosecutor Princess, Brilliant Legacy, and so on, has lined up her next drama project. Count me in. She’s headed over to tvN to do a new romantic comedy called Our Heaven, about an ajumma who goes back to college to try and reset her life. Ooh, is this Angry Mom with a legal loveline?

It’ll be an upbeat campus romance, about a 38-year-old ajumma who wants a redo and decides to start her life over by going to college. She’ll become a freshman and mix it up with 20-year-olds, though we’re not told whether she’s owning her age or keeping that under wraps. The latter would be the funnier version, naturally. And I sort of like the idea that she might lie about her age for no other reason than vanity.

The drama is about her finding love, discovering her dreams, and changing the course of her life in the process. It sounds like an empowering story about a really interesting heroine, and coming from this writer, I fully expect strong characters and a cracktastic, well-developed plot. It’s actually a shame that Kim Hee-sun already has such a similar drama under her belt because she’d be such a great fit, but I’m sure there are lots of leading actresses who could pull off a college freshman look. When will Lee Bo-young be back at work?

Directing is PD Kim Hyung-shik of Secret Door, Suspicious Housekeeper, Ghost, and Sign. Our Heaven has been scheduled to follow Oh My Ghostess on Fridays and Saturdays beginning in August, and will begin casting shortly.

I loved 49 Days, hope this lives up to the hype. On the other hand, Prosecutor Princess was rather mediocre.

I loved 49 Days too. The idea seemed 'unusual' and the cast (Lee Yo-Won! Jung Il-woo!) and the directing carried the show. The writing itself, I think, was a mediocre.

I noticed that this writer always comes up with unusual idea that makes her work remarkable.

I can even believe the writer of 49 Days, on of my favorite kdramas, also wrote the horrible Prosecutor Princess.

Yup - a lot of the writing seems all over the place. No in between - just very good or horrible. So this so far is just on my "maybe" list.

I've liked every single drama as well, except My Daughter Soo Young but only because I haven't seen that one. Brilliant Legacy IS one of my all time favorite dramas, even though I wanted to strangle "mushroomhead" Lee Seung Gi a lot of times during the show.

I also really liked 49 days, and I could understand the ending, though I felt bad about it. I even liked Prosecutor Princess, although probably because I enjoyed Kim So Yeon's performance a lot. So I'll be sure to look into this one as well -- sure this may have been done before, but with good writing, I don't mind stories being retold another way.

You should really give My Daughter Seoyoung a try! It wasn't the ratings stealer for nothing. Although certain episodes were a little bogged down with typical kdrama cliches, overall it was a heartwarming drama about a daughter and her father. I've watched just the last episode alone for about 10 times now I think, lol.

Not really feeling the concept. And the age gap will me massive, considering she is 38 and probably she will have a love-line with a college student.
Nuh nuh. Bye.

That will make it interesting for me.

I HATED the ending to 49 days. It ruined the whole show for me, so i have trust issues with this particular writer.

I don't mind the premise in theory but i hope they don't go the Noona romance route because it feels boring at this point.

I will forever have issues with this Writer for Destroying such a Unique Plot, Great Acting and Directing with her Shitty Ending. >___<

Sorry but I won't hold my breath for this one cause I don't want o get Burn a Second Time, I Learned my Lesson!

Yeah I'm tired of all these noona romances.. Can't they just be the same age or around the same age? I guess this is why I liked Pinocchio so much no older woman or man no younger woman or man either.

Considering I'm someone around the age of many noona romances (34), I say bring'em on! Entertainment is dominated by older male/younger female, although I'll grant you seeing more almost/same age would be nice, too. I don't feel like it seems "normal" yet and I'd like for there to be an equilibrium.

@Ageha I agree, i'm also in my 30s so like older woman getting roles and why not with younger men? i notice some negative comments about "noona romances" even when the story doesn't market that way at all, i hope they're not being prejudiced against older woman in rom com.

Agreed. I guess in k-dramas it is still considered a novel concept (even though 60 year old chaebols having 20 year old mistresses OK?).

And I personally know a few people in the US that went back and got degrees when well past mid 20's - including myself - I got my EE at 32.

Right? I'll probably watch a couple episodes of this show just to see if it's my cup of tea, but I would definitelly stick it out if she fell for a professor who was stuck between "She's so young!" and "She's a student!" and "You're how old??"

What I'm trying to says is, if the professor doesn't do creepy things and there's no wierd power imbalance, I'm game.

I mean, I guess the alternative is that she have a romance with a fellow student? Which I personally wouldn't like very much because 1. noona romances don't do it for me generally, and 2. rebooting your life aside, you're at a different place in life when you're 38 and when you're 18-22.

But you're completely right: it could go well, maybe, but also disastrously bad. Fingers crossed!

*sigh* why not a thriller? but I kind of like the premise. Someone gets to play something else than a mother, yay!

I feel like we will be getting a love triangle though, of ahjumma student - some young guy and a professor.

ummm yeah, not a fan of the age gap. i could deal with a noona relationship if it was like in Let's Eat where it was like 3-4 years, but 15-19 year age gap is too weird. and it's not a sexist thing bc i probably would've hated it if the guy was 15-19 yrs older. why can't we do more romances with the similar age leads

Noona romance again? It's getting tiring dramaland, time a change-up. Pronto.

The premise sounds like a recycled version of Angry Mom, and I'm really hoping this doesn't set off yet another trend. Still, the writer is good for the most part. I hated 49 Days, but Shining Inhertance and particularly Prosecutor Princess was great. If they cast people I like, I might be up for it.

Or since this is from the writer of 49 Days we get something like a fantasy where an ahjumma somehow turns young again and goes back to college. Something like the manga Sumika Sumire or the web comic ReLife? That's be a fun drama with a lot of hijinks.

Oops I loved prosecutor princess. The first couple of episode were so bad I had to pick it up years later (not rare, unfortunately - coffee prince stands out for me, but it was the same with partner) but far OUT I don't think I've ever been so invested in a couple. I guess the chemistry really helped. (PSH I loved you so much -_-).

But hooray sounds good. I kind of wish she was upfront about her age though, yes hijinks if she lies, but can older women please do something for themselves in Korea?

I am a fan of this writer, aside from IHYV, QIHM and Ghost's writers. She wraps her message well through her drama. I did enjoy watching 49 Days despite its open and -some people said- weird ending. It's not weird at all for me since there are many possibilities and interpretations of happy ending, one of those could be **sorry spoiler** die happily and peacefully after living an accomplished life **end of spoiler**
I also checked Two Weeks and found it having similar message to deliver with 49 Days, about how precious one's life is.
So I think I'm on board with her new drama, whatever genre it will be.

Hmm, I liked 2 weeks, but I want exactly wowed by the plot. I liked prosecutor Princess but only for the lead actors. The story was actually quite forgettable.

As for noona romance, I'm actually OK with it here as it doesn't involve a psychologically damaged teenager without a mother figure being shipped with a mom who has a kid the same age as the teenager. That and college is when a lot of people find themselves and can actually be in mature relationship without stunting their growth.

That being said, I think it would be interesting if they pursued the teacher-student angle and the potential pitfalls that might arise from that. Also, I'd love to see the ajumma lie about her age for vanity reasons, but then also have people wonder why she looks so old :p (kind of like a side character in operation proposal).

She is 38. I college student will be 18. (Considering they are in first year) That is 19 years age gap, almost good to be mother-son relationship. I hope they pair her with thw professor instead of a student.
And whole plot sounds ridiculous. Im not feeling it yet.

I was 16 when I was in my first year college... yeah the standard age would be 17-18 yrs so yes, it is the same taboo romance but for a change it is not in school but college which is more ethical (?).
I've been wanting watch a good college drama more than school drama because for me it is more realistic and something most adults can connect with better. College drama are rare in S. Korea. I wonder about their fixation with school theme though...
Even though the age gap is huge, I hope the writer does some justice to the story. I guess the male lead will be in 20s... I've noticed that S. Koreans go to college at 19-20 yrs of age.

In Korea, they even pay attention to minutes apart when it comes to ages. Seriously. You can see how pervasive the whole "respect based solely on age" thing is, when even in dramas they talk about who is the older twin, by perhaps 45 seconds.

That whole age thing is one thing that just drives me crazy about Korea.

You know, I was all excited until I read the description. A nearly-40-yr old who goes back to college does not have time to "mix it up" with the kids. They're fully conscious of how much money they're spending & how much value they need to squeeze out of it.

(One of my friends did this, and I recall him talking about taking a 20 year old classmate aside & telling him to stop wasting the instructor's time because he was paying for that class, and he intended to get his money's worth.)

Now, if it was a drama about a woman who tells the goofing-off college kids to get out if they can't pay attention, or juggles her childcare, school, and full-time job (because bills don't stop coming!), then I might be interested.

But honestly, I'd rather they just write another thriller like "Two Weeks".
