The prosecutor rips off his robes and dons his mask

Well, we asked for it, didn’t we? And now it can’t be unseen. The first teaser is out for KBS’s new crime-fighting vigilante drama Masked Prosecutor (or should I call it Prosecutor Libre?) and, um, I can definitely say it’s a comedy. Thank goodness for that, though I’m still holding out hope that the prosecutor’s mask is a joke. I know we’re seeing these wrestling masks on singing variety shows these days, but I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it. How am I ever supposed to take your crime-fighting seriously? Or maybe that’s the point.

The drama stars Joo Sang-wook as a materialistic prosecutor by day, and secret do-gooder masked vigilante by night. Kim Sun-ah stars opposite him as an “emotional detective,” who can’t stand for injustice and races headlong into danger whenever she’s moved to act.

Joo Sang-wook opens the teaser by busting out his prosecutor’s badge with authority… so that he can get a discount at the coffee shop. Kim Sun-ah, on the other hand, is a confident cop who declares that it’s not just tough detectives who are good at catching criminals. She springs into action while muttering, “You’re dead,” then we cut to Joo Sang-wook saying, “Justice is dead. It’s time for me to act!” He laces up his mask, rips open his prosecutor’s robes like Superman, and reveals the drama title. Heh, okay, ridiculous mask aside, the Superman moment is fun.

At least we know this drama won’t be taking itself too seriously. The teaser feels a bit like You’re All Surrounded, though hopefully with less fumbling on the job. The show is described as “sincere but upbeat,” which I really like the sound of. And the fact that Joo Sang-wook always gives up all semblance of looking cool endears him to me so. Who says you can’t fight injustice and have a few laughs too, right?

Masked Prosecutor follows Unkind Women on Wednesdays and Thursdays and premieres May 20.

Is that really Kim Sun Ah? Looks different. Or maybe something wrong with my eyes. Interesting teaser. Reminds me Superman lol.

She has so much work done her face...she's just looking weird.

Please, give us a break...who has not done something in this industry? Just name one! It's all about talent and performance. The same as Hollywood, I presume...

And looks or else they wouldn't have done plastic surgery. It's not like they do it to improve their acting skills.

Well, said.

however when some actors and actresses have done much PS on their faces, I feel pain to watch them,,, they look quite wired because there is something a bit off. I wish at least PS, if PS were necessary in the industry as some people believe, could enhance their acting skills!! but in reality, much PS on their faces sometimes limit their facial expressions.

0

Right, though I think the desired outcome is not exactly looks or beauty, but youth. And that indeed is a futile fight! No, I don't mean it for my beloved Kim Sam Soon (she'll always be My Lovely Sam Soon).

0

It's true it's common in Korea. But let's be truthful: It's to a greater degree in Korea than in Hollywood. Look at all the articles written everywhere about that aspect of Korea.

Korea, Italy and Greece are the top-3 countries in cosmetic procedures per capita worldwide. If we exclude from these statistics people of lower socioeconomic class -for obvious reasons- along with the aged part of the population then the safe conclusion must be approximetely 10 procedures for each person . Who are these people? It's easy...the rich and famous plus actors, singers, anchormen and politicians(not all of them). The bottom line is one: We need to put aside this factor which, however painful for our eyes sometimes, looks so common. If an actor's talent is detectable even after some(?) aesthetic procedure then he/she must be really gifted.

0

Are you kidding me?

Jeon Ji-hyun, Shin Mina, Kim Tae-hee, Song Hye-gyo, Son Ye-jin, Han Ga-in, Moon Geun-young, Han Hyo-joo, Jung Yumi, Soo Ae, Yoon Eun-hye, Lee Yeon-hee, Gong Hyo-jin, Lee Min-jung, Lee Na-young, Han Ye-Seul, Sung Yuri, Suzy, etc. - basically, everyone who is a known (natural) beauty), not to mention most of the character actresses.

And then there are those like Kim So-eun and Go Ara who just got something slightly done.

And for the male actors, it's much less common.

Perhaps you are right. Maybe Kim Sun-A is not a "natural" beauty. But for some, not all, of the actresses you mention, you should watch their debut. I think you may find a signifant change. And I don't mean the usual beauty refinements (teeth, skin tone, fillers).

0

Even for "natural" beauties though... a lot of them have been shown to have differences between old photos and their current look, regardless of whether or not they admit to having had work done. Even if it's just something like double eyelid surgery, which is ridiculously common and even socially accepted in many Asian countries, doesn't that still count as plastic surgery?

0

Which ones?

A lot of times, accusations of surgery arise when it's just weight loss/gain.

All the ones I listed look like grown up versions of their child photos.

And for the ones that did get slight changes done - like Kim So-eun and Go Ara, such changes have been noted/acknowledged.

0

she braced her teeth for more than a year...when she is filming city hall in 2009 she use retainer for braced replacement, that's why she has organized teeth right now than before, and that's why her facial change around mouth.

Hmmm . . . not seeing it. She's looking just like her last two drama, too skinny and too much make-up for my taste. But that Kim-Sun-Ah smirk is still working.

I totally agree. She still looks the same. Maybe even skinnier. She needs to gain some more pounds to make her face fuller. Can't wait. I love the pairing.

More than most actresses, I think that many women were fans because they could identity with Kim Sun Ah because she was fabulous without superficial standards of beauty. She projected sexiness, courage, and intelligence from the inside out.
I know that she is awesome with or without cosmetic surgery but I will miss the face that I am fond of.

@houstonwin you're totally right, i love her because of her personality and all and all she gifted to. And I miss her old chubby face, but can't do she has to shrug off her samsoon image and had to braced her teeth in term of her jaw joint problem that cause pain, she's a human too.

And I think all of us will STOP this PS chit chat... I've lost lot of weight too and my friend barely know me and I didn't do PS, that goes the same as her (and she experiences the same thing, because she said it herself).

And Back to the drama, back to the pros and cons of the Mask!! Isn't Joo Sang Wook look handsome there??!! Thank you girfriday.

I think it's glorious. Dramaland is full of weepy, soapy and messy works which are hilarious by accident, not choice.

We need some comedy. Just some fun. KBS2 once aired one of my favorite shows, 'Evasive Inquiry Agency'. It wasn't about larger-than-life romance or Fate™ or gimmicks. It was just pure fun, friendship, adventure and silliness and it was beautiful.

I do expect this to just be a concept teaser and we all know Dramaland promos cannot be trusted anyway, but I wish we could get a fun, upbeat show which doesn't devolve into a weep-fest on dramalife-support of angst and effortless plot devices.

Give. Me. Tights.

Agree. I'm getting bored of those romcom (that mostly turns to melodrama after sometimes) and makjang. We need something fresh. Totally comedy drama from the beginning till the end. The more silly the better XD

Yes! After Blade Man betrayed my hopes for a superhero origin story, I'm counting on Masked Prosecutor to bring the goofy camp and the fight for justice that dramaland needs.

I'm totally okay with the mask, and the comedy tone. Bring it!

I love Evasive Inquiry Agency! So much. One of my favorite dramas ever. It's one of those dramas that you watch, and it makes you feel like you can do anything and that life is full of amazing possibility. I feel like I'm always longing for more dramas like that one.

So if this drama can remain upbeat, and silly throughout, all the while with sincere emotion driving it forward, I'll be very happy, indeed. We certainly need more dramas like that.

The way Kdramas are including more and more non-Korean musicians to perform on their soundtracks, I'm going to start up a petition to the show's Music Director to include some Los Straitjackets tunes on the OST. Two great things that would go great together!!! :P

Everything's good but that mask is just... not working. Wouldn't it be funnier if he was dressed Zorro-like but not quite matching the aura instead of literally having a slapstick mask? This makes the situation un-serious from the beginning. I hope it won't be as bad since I like both actors.
