Changmin makes sageuk debut in Scholar Who Walks the Night
by girlfriday
girlfriday: Ummm… I don’t know how to tell you this, but Changmin is going to star in Scholar Who Walks the Night.
javabeans: …
girlfriday: Hello… hello…?
javabeans: I… have too many feelings inside of me and they’re all screaming. Do you mean the Changmin I’m thinking of, or has there been the birth of an overnight sensation and acting god also named Changmin?
girlfriday: Sadly no. Yes, it’s that Changmin, of Paradise Ranch and Mimi. I’m… sorry?
javabeans: *silent screaming*
girlfriday: I hate to make it worse, but does this mean that he’s replacing Lee Jun-ki? Because, uh, the math does not work out on that.
javabeans: I may have just had a rage attack.
girlfriday: Wait, wait! Don’t have an aneurysm yet! There might be hope that he’s just an addition, not a replacement. He’s playing a prince, and I’m pretty sure the prince is not the scholar. I think.
javabeans: Oh god, please let that be true. Also, if that’s true, I’m going to beat you up for doing this to me. I almost had a heart attack!
girlfriday: The casting articles don’t say anything clearly (surprise, surprise), but the manhwa summaries say that the story takes place during Yeongjo’s reign, seven years after he killed Crown Prince Sado, which makes Jeongjo a prince at the time. If the drama follows that, then Changmin has been cast to play Jeongjo.
javabeans: I remember hearing that there was a second vampire in the palace when serial murders arise, so I presume either that the prince is the vamp, or the prince needs protection from the second vamp. Probably the latter.
girlfriday: Okay, a vampy Jeongjo would definitely be new. Also crazy. But new.
javabeans: You know, if Changmin only is in a supporting role, I think I can deal with it. Just don’t take my Jun-ki away from me, please!
girlfriday: See, now you feel good about the casting!
javabeans: I think that’s an optimistic reading of my reaction. Also, c’mere. I have a noogie with your name on it.
girlfriday: *runs away cackling*

I was settled with the idea of Lee Jun Ki already! Ever since Kim Soo Hyun passed on this project...they just can't, can't cast Changmin...even though I love TVXQ, I just can't see him playing the lead role. Hopefully more details will be reveal soon!

I don't know what all the complaining is about. Changmin was really good in Mimi and damn good in Fly with the gold! Maybe he wasn't the best in Paradise Ranch, but he was by no means bad either. I guess haters gonna hate.
