Kill Me, Heal Me: Episode 13
by purplecow
It seems clear that Ri-jin and Do-hyun like each other, but the obstacles in their path are numerous and daunting. The full truth of the past continues to evade them, and the more they think about the future the darker it seems. But Do-hyun is set on his path, determined to shoulder the burdens that were once too much for him to bear. And Ri-jin is determined to fight for her love—even if it means punching Fate (and possibly a few other people) in the face.
EPISODE 13 RECAP
After showing Grandma Seo his new determination, Do-hyun goes looking for Ri-jin. He finds her in the basement, sitting motionless as her buried memories resurface. She tells Do-hyun she’s fine, but when she tries to stand up she faints and falls against him.
Do-hyun calls Dr. Seok to his apartment to check on Ri-jin. Dr. Seok doesn’t seem very worried, but he asks Do-hyun to take extra care of Ri-jin. Though she’s tough now, she used to struggle with limiting her empathy for patients. Dr. Seok makes fun of himself for worrying like a father, but his concern is both genuine and touching.
Ri-jin sleeps fretfully, her dreams troubled by fragments of her traumatic past. Do-hyun gets up to make a call, but Ri-jin calls out to him, still deep within her nightmare: “Don’t leave. Play with me.”
Do-hyun grasps her hand in his and promises to stay by her side. He’ll look after her now, he says, so she shouldn’t worry about anything and just rest.
In his room in his parents’ house, Ri-on bolts upright, wondering if he had a nightmare. He returns to his story, narrating while we return to Do-hyun keeping watch over Ri-jin. Ri-on writes that the thread of memory, once it begins to unwind, will not stop until it reaches an end—whatever that end may be.
When Do-hyun wakes up, Ri-jin is gone. He finds her downstairs in the kitchen, looking quite chipper considering her difficult night. She roots through the fridge and says she wishes she could have some of her mother’s cooking.
Looking very downcast, Do-hyun apologizes for getting Ri-jin involved in his business. She teases him for being all serious, and tells him that she already told her parents the truth about her staying in Korea. Ri-jin then declines Do-hyun’s offer to take her home, saying that if he’s truly sorry he should buy her a meal instead.
Do-hyun treats Ri-jin to samgyeopsal and soju, feeding her a lettuce wrap with a shy smile that just kills me. He asks about Ri-jin’s nightmare, but she tells him to keep the serious talk for later. She has someone else who interprets her dreams: Ri-on.
This leads naturally to a discussion of Ri-on, and all of the interactions Do-hyun has had with him so far begin seem suspicious in light of what Do-hyun now knows. He asks what kind of person Ri-on is, and Ri-jin replies that even she isn’t entirely sure because her brother has so many different sides.
Do-hyun wants to ask if Ri-on is Ri-jin’s biological brother, but he stays silent and instead chides Ri-jin for drinking so much right after being ill. Ri-jin replies that you would have better luck telling a dog to stop eating poop than getting her to eat samgyeopsal without soju—a girl after my own heart, this one.
As they meander along the street, Ri-jin asks if Do-hyun is worried now that he’s no longer the vice president of ID Entertainment. Will he be fine without the money he’s accustomed to? Do-hyun replies that he can always sell the expensive goods Se-gi has collected over the years.
Do-hyun explains his plan, which is to find the child he thinks was in the basement with him. Ri-jin approves of this plan, simple and straightforward as it is. She realizes she forgot her phone in the restaurant, and sends Do-hyun ahead to the café to order her coffee.
But Do-hyun pauses in front of a storefront advertising tarot card readings. His eyes light up, and he heads inside.
The tarot reader (cameo by comedian Ahn Young-mi) greets Do-hyun by complimenting him on his good looks. She offers to tell his fortune, asking Do-hyun to concentrate on the girl he likes as he chooses the cards.
The person she describes sounds a lot like Ri-jin: a girl with a bright personality and a strong mind, who makes Do-hyun feel at ease and is like a ray of sunshine in his life. The other cards, however, predict many obstacles in the way of their love.
The final card is the Wheel of Fortune (look familiar?!), which represents an unavoidable fate. Their love may come to fruition, says the seer, but not without pain or hardship.
No sooner does Do-hyun leave the shop than Ri-jin walks by. She also walks in to have her fortune told… only to hear that she’s juggling too many men. HA! The Force is strong with this one.
The next card is Death, which according to the fortune teller represents Ruin, or a great catastrophe. Ri-jin should give up on love and focus on work instead, or else her pursuit for love will end in ruin.
“That’s invalid!” Ri-jin screams, just like Se-gi after his homemade Wheel of Fate chose Do-hyun. “Pick again!” Sorry dear, the cards have spoken.
Ri-jin meets Do-hyun at the café, where he’s doing in an Internet search on the reliability of tarot card reading. When Ri-jin swipes his phone to see what he’s looking at, Do-hyun tries to grab it back and they get entangled in a heart-pounding embrace.
Back at the apartment, Do-hyun asks Ri-jin why he’s only supposed to call her when he needs her. Hasn’t she ever needed him? Do-hyun asks to be more than a patient—he wants to know if Ri-jin can come to see him as a man.
Ri-jin’s answer is to invite Do-hyun to take a trip with her on the “Snowflake Train.” He can learn more about her, and they can become closer friends. They agree to meet in thirty minutes for their date, but as soon as Do-hyun starts to pack he gets a call from Chae-yeon. Excellent timing this girl has.
Chae-yeon has had a few drinks, and wants Do-hyun to come see her. He tries to refuse, but she threatens to break off her engagement with Ki-joon and tell the family and even the tabloids how Do-hyun tried to seduce her.
Ri-jin comes downstairs, ready for the trip, when Do-hyun tells her he won’t be able to go. He feels responsible for Chae-yeon because Se-gi has her so mixed up, and so he’s going to meet her even though he doesn’t have a plan. Ri-jin sends him off, but once he’s gone she jumps up and down in frustration at having their romantic getaway canceled.
After meeting Chae-yeon in a hotel bar, Do-hyun tells her this is the last time he’ll come out to meet her. Chae-yeon asks if he’d stay away even if she harmed herself, showing just how broken up she is. She reminds Do-hyun that he was the first to hold out his hand—so why is she the only one feeling cast aside? Do-hyun claims that he momentarily lost his senses, but Chae-yeon says she finally knows whom she really likes.
Meanwhile, Ki-joon’s mother and Chae-yeon’s mother walk arm-in-arm through a hotel lobby after getting massages. Ki-joon’s mother happens to see Do-hyun escorting a drunk Chae-yeon away from the bar.
Ri-jin drinks a few beers alone in Do-hyun’s apartment, still looking for a way around the fortune teller’s advice to give up on love. “Tomorrow I’m going to church,” she decides, cracking me up.
Ri-on and a friend are eating dinner with some pretty ladies, and Ri-on tries out an original Se-gi pick-up line (“You called me a very long time ago”). Everything seems to be flowing well, until Ri-on gets a call from Ri-jin asking him to take her home. He goes running out as soon as he hears that she fainted and had another nightmare.
Do-hyun arrives back at his apartment to find Ri-jin gone. She left him a note saying that she’s taking him up on his earlier offer of a break. She asks him to understand, and promises that she didn’t leave because she was mad about their canceled trip.
Back at the family restaurant, Ri-jin shares her thoughts with Ri-on. She reminds him of the time he covered her eyes so she wouldn’t see her first love with his girlfriend, and reveals that she knew the truth even before Ri-on did. She thanks him for taking care of her then, and asks him to do the same thing if she ever makes a mistake like that again.
Ri-on asks her straight out if she likes Do-hyun. Instead of answering directly, Ri-jin says that she’s been struggling lately. Not only are there her confusing feelings for Do-hyun, but there is also her nightmare and a niggling sense of déjà vu—what’s worse, she can’t talk to Do-hyun about any of this because he’s going through a harder time than she is.
Unnoticed by Ri-jin, Do-hyun overhears her talking from the driveway. He watches from a distance, listening to what Ri-jin couldn’t share with him. When Ri-jin begins to turn around, Ri-on covers her eyes with his blanket so she won’t see Do-hyun. She complains that he’s never serious and stalks inside, while Do-hyun walks away without a word.
Do-hyun drives home, thinking about everything that Ri-jin has been keeping bottled up. Remembering all the times that Ri-jin has supported him, he begins to cry.
Ki-joon and his father meet with several Seungjin executives. Since Grandma Seo fired Do-hyun, once thought to be her successor, the men believe Ki-joon’s father is a lock for the position of chairman at the next stockholders’ meeting. Dad takes a call outside—his minions have discovered the identity of someone else searching for the lost child.
Chief Ahn helps Do-hyun move his things out of the office. For his part, Do-hyun tells his friend not to worry about him, and to grab any opportunity he sees to rise. But the loyal Chief Ahn has no interest in hitching his horse to someone else’s wagon.
Ki-joon stops Do-hyun for one last confrontation in the hallway. Do-hyun reveals that he’s not going to America as planned, and Ki-joon leaves him with a warning: “Don’t show your face again around my company or my woman.” Yup… figures he’d mention the company first.
In the parking garage, Chief Ahn receives a call from Do-hyun’s mother. She’s heard about Do-hyun getting fired, and she’s come back to South Korea to raise some hell.
Mom and Do-hyun meet in a café, where she scolds her son for losing his position. Do-hyun is only concerned about the lost child, however. When Mom denies that there was another child, Do-hyun reveals that he already knows his mother is searching for him or her, and that his father was abusive. Mom, visibly flustered, says she has an urgent appointment and leaves at once.
Do-hyun has one of the flashes of pain that sometimes signal an impending personality change. A call comes in from the Omega writer, and Do-hyun arranges to meet Ri-on at another café.
Ri-on explains that his parents don’t know Ri-jin is treating Do-hyun, and that they would be upset to learn their daughter is staying with an unmarried man. But he will continue to deceive them, because he trusts in Ri-jin as a doctor; she’s too much of a professional to develop personal feelings for a patient, he says (*cough* bullshit! *cough*).
Ri-jin is slicing rice cake for the soup traditionally eaten on Lunar New Year. She marvels at how uniformly her mother cuts the rice cake, reflecting that it’s a lot like how her parents raised both her and Ri-on with the same amount of love. Her parents get noticeably anxious at this comparison, but Ri-jin only thanks them and wishes them many blessings in the New Year.
Back at the café, Do-hyun points out that Ri-on is being very careful to emphasize the professional nature of his relationship to Ri-jin. Ri-on admits he is, and asks Do-hyun to break ties with his sister once he returns to America in two months.
Ri-on goes to get coffee, while Do-hyun clutches his head in pain. When he opens his eyes again, it’s Yo-na looking out from them. She complains that Do-hyun only calls her out when he’s having a tough time, then shakes off her annoyance and declares: “It’s Yo-na’s world now!”
Yo-na gets up from the table, only to see Ri-on coming towards her with coffee. He freezes and asks tentatively, “Cha Do-hyun?” Yo-na blushes and calls him “oppa,” which just about gives Ri-on a heart attack. Yo-na screams “oppa” again and jumps into Ri-on’s arms.
Not content with just talking to “Ri-on oppa,” Yo-na goes straight in for a kiss. Ri-on holds her at arm’s length and makes an emergency call to Ri-jin, who’s still at the family restaurant. He asks if Yo-na is the personality Ri-jin warned him about before.
“Save me, Ri-jin,” Ri-on begs. “I’ll be good. I’ll do better from now on.” Ri-jin rushes to the car, warning Ri-on to do whatever Yo-na asks. If he loses her, things will get even worse than whatever he’s imagining.
Back in her school uniform and rocking the pink lipstick, Yo-na gets Ri-on to buy her food and then makes him feed it to her. The customers in the café watch, amazed, as Ri-on tries to keep Yo-na happy. His courage fails on the first attempt, and Yo-na threatens to dance on the table if Ri-on doesn’t feed her.
Ri-on still can’t bring himself to do it, however, and announces to everyone in the café that “it’s not like that.” Yo-na replies breezily: “It’s exactly like that!” Ri-on calls Ri-jin and sobs that he just can’t do it. Yo-na gives Ri-on a coy smile and says, “Catch me.” She runs out of the café, and Ri-jin orders Ri-on not to lose her.
Carefree and beaming happily, Yo-na runs down the street, which just happens to be lined with hordes of people taking cell phone videos (so long, fourth wall). Ri-jin joins the chase, advising Ri-on to use his martial arts abilities to take down Yo-na. Ri-on wails that he can’t use those on a girl!
Yo-na leads the pursuing Ri-on into an alleyway, and pouts that he’s too slow to catch her. “How about I catch you?” she cries gleefully, and launches herself at Ri-on. Ri-on fends her off while marveling at her strength, and Ri-jin catches up in time to try and break the two of them apart.
A wonderful three-way battle ensues, as Yo-na tries to catch Ri-on while fighting off Ri-jin. After a mighty struggle, Yo-na successfully lands a kiss on Ri-on’s lips.
Overjoyed at her success, Yo-na cheers and jumps in the air. Ri-jin winds up and hits Yo-na in the face with a beautiful right cross. She crumples to the pavement, clutching her lipstick and calling out for “oppa.” Ri-jin: 1. Yo-na: 0.
Do-hyun wakes up in Ri-on’s room at the family restaurant. He sees Ri-on watching him, and the two boys scream like banshees and spring apart. Ri-on promises to explain everything in detail and gives Do-hyun a change of clothing. He’s so rattled by the memory of Yo-na that he accidentally refers to himself as “oppa.” Oh, Ri-on.
Downstairs, Ri-jin grabs Do-hyun and drags him outside. She stumbles, recovers and declares she’s perfectly fine, then kicks a trash can in aggravation. Do-hyun can’t hide a tiny smile at seeing her so worked up.
Do-hyun’s mother sits beside Dad’s bed. His favorite poem collection has been left out, and Mom says she used to read it to him years ago. She opens the book and finds a picture of Dad’s first wife between two pages that had been stuck together.
Ri-jin tells Do-hyun that her brother knows about his multiple personalities; in fact, he knew since he met Se-gi. But he won’t use that knowledge for his self-interest, she says. Ri-jin turns around as if to leave for the house.
Ri-jin pauses, clearly waiting for Do-hyun to speak to her. He doesn’t, so she whirls around and reminds him to pretend to be Perry Park in front of her parents. She turns again, and when Do-hyun doesn’t stop her she scowls ferociously. Ri-jin turns back once more and says she’ll be in the kitchen if he needs her.
Ri-jin turns to leave for the third time, and this time Do-hyun calls out to her. She smiles with her back turned, then adopts an unconcerned tone when she answers him. “Even if it’s only for two months,” Do-hyun asks, “can’t I be a man to you?”
Back in Evil Dad’s hospital room, Mom says that she knew all along that he still loved his first wife. But even though she knew that, she clung to him to keep from sinking back into her sewer of a life. To protect her world, she is determined to find the missing child before Do-hyun recovers his memories.
Ri-jin recites the clause in their contract that specifies that she will not fall in love with Do-hyun or any of his personalities. He replies that it’s fine; he’ll just break the contract and pay the penalty fee.
Do-hyun steps closer, intending to kiss her to officially break the contract. But before we see if Ri-jin reciprocates or not, Do-hyun’s eye is caught by a charred photo in the trash can.
He takes out the photo, staring at it blankly. “Who is it?” Ri-jin asks. “My mother,” Do-hyun responds, pole-axed. “My mother on the birth registry.”
COMMENTS
This episode was much slower and more contemplative than those of previous weeks (with the obvious exception of Yo-na’s romp through Hongdae, which was amazing). For the most part I enjoyed the change of pace, which allowed secrets and emotions alike to simmer luxuriously.
I have one complaint however, and that is the director’s reliance on flashbacks during moments of sincere emotion. Obviously flashbacks are a good way to show what a character is remembering, and it keeps lazy viewers from forgetting relevant moments from past episodes; still, when flashbacks are overused they start to feel very heavy-handed.
I’m hesitant to criticize Kill Me, Heal Me at all because I love it so much, but I have to admit I would appreciate a lighter touch on the flashback button, especially when it comes to the basement memories and OTP moments that only happened one or two episodes ago. I think we as viewers can be trusted to recall these moments, especially because they were so vivid the first time around, without needing to see them again and again.
Sometimes an extended flashback helps to set the mood, but in the worst case it can feel like padding on extra time. There is so much in the present moment to explore, so much rich potential for conflict and character development, that I’m loathe to use much airtime replaying what we’ve already seen—and if you’re like me, you already replayed these moments a few times during the wait between episodes.
On a more positive note, Yo-na finally met her oppa! The scene in the café was hilarious, but what I really loved was the running scene, when fans were allowed to line the streets and watch the filming. This show has always been self-aware, as we can see in the recurring bit where characters talk about what’s happening in front of their eyes as if it were a drama. Given that, it felt quite natural to have the fourth wall broken so spectacularly. I only wish that I could have been in Hongdae with them!
It was nice to see the show examine the relationship between Ri-jin and Do-hyun a little more closely in this episode. Obviously they are no longer merely doctor and patient (I think that boat sailed a few smooches ago), but neither are they in the kind of mutually supportive relationship where they can tell each other everything and be there for each other no matter the obstacle.
Ri-jin still thinks of herself as a doctor first and prioritizes Do-hyun’s suffering above her own, even though we know she is just as much a victim as he is. Seeing the two of them fumble around their own feelings, inadvertently uncovering memories little by little, is endlessly frustrating—but in a good way, at least for me.
In fact, sometimes they remind me a little of the main couple from Healer: Both couples are thrown together as children, then find each other years later with the shadow of an older generation still weighing heavily upon them. Do-hyun needs to heal his mind, but he also needs to earn Ri-jin’s unqualified trust so they can work together to thwart the machinations of Mom, Grandma Seo, and Ki-joon’s family. Seungjin Group is a veritable cesspool, filled with the absolute worst of humanity; I only hope that Do-hyun and Ri-jin can fight their way free.

Gosh I know I liked the episode but excuse me while I say... I love the Yo Na's scenes. If that's what rom com is... it sure delivered.
It was funny and I just break out into giggles remembering Yo Na demanding to be fed. And no guy/ girl should be so frisky running down the streets. It was honestly one of the best laugh I've had in months. In anything. Not just K drama.

the yoo-na scene will forever be one of those great moments in kdrama, I didn't see it coming so I really LOL! like I forgot what time it was and that I probably sounded like I finally lost it, hahaha! I repeated that scene like so many times, whatever happened in the first 40 minutes of the show was totally lost on me already.
gee, you know how that feels, a guy that you were crushin on suddenly is there before you, how would you react, right? not like yoo-na coz you still have some self-preservation but you totally wish you could have done the same thing if only in your mind, ;-) when he asked him to buy a cake for her (her? did I just typed her, ok,whatever) and "she" asked why is Oh Ri On making her say so many words, and the way "she" said it was just so funny and adorable. Damn, Ji Sung, age really made you so better!
and now "chababa" which means"catch me" but more like catch me if you can, and if you can't catch me, I'll catch you. exactly, what happened, right?!
I think Yoo-na scored big time with the kiss, so she went out with a bang.
there's only one strange gesture - yoo na wiped her lips right after, why would you that, girl?

I noticed that, too. Subconscious on CDH's part?
Or Ji Sung's?

I would like to think that it's Segi in the picture. Segi and Yona had signs becoming one in the earlier episode. So, maybe Segi is disgusted with the thought of kissing Rion (his love rival also his enemy?)

LOL I think it was Ji-sung's subconscious. I laughed out loud when I saw Yo-na wiping her lips because from the BTS videos, Ji-sung seemed to get embarrassed easily (although his spectacular acting doesn't show that). And that kiss was not in the script :D love Ri-on's traumatized reaction.

@kyl
Ooh where is that BTS please do share the link. I think the wiping of the lips is perhaps an alter's subconscious either Segi or CDH. Although I agree with you it could easily be a JS involuntary reaction to a guy's kiss. This drama knows how to work everything it captures on film and it's no surprise that the kiss and most probably Ji Sung wiping his lips are both ad-libbed.
@purplecow
Thanks Purplecow for the fab recap! Agree with you on the long flashbacks....and I too felt hesitant to criticize this drama so I tried to ignore how impatient I felt during those flashbacks.

@Sargeveegee I can't remember exactly which BTS but I do get the sense that he gets embarrassed easily from the videos. Plus, this show is so meta that I didn't really think of it as a sign of merging personalities :)

I thought she was pressing her fingers to her lips, like "I'll never wash my lips again!" delight. Or possibly rubbing the kiss in.
If either Do Hyun or Ri On had been miscast, this entire scene would have been a disaster - they cast exactly right.

I love the Yo-Na scenes. I started this drama well after it ended and wondered what all the fuss was about regarding Yo-Na and man, do I get it. It doesn't even feel like Ji-Sung playing Yo-Na. It just feels like Yo-Na, like that's a real character. And I wish there were better translations for all her slang because it's hilarious! Also, I absolutely love how in every scene she is with Ri-Jin, Yo-Na yells at Ri-Jin to "Don't show your teeth, you jijibae!" In every scene, without fail, like she's really annoyed at RJ showing her teeth. May be it's just another way for her to tell her to shut up. But it's so funny because it's soooo random and hilarious! Perhaps because for me I feel like HJE does have pretty prominent teeth. Hahaha~! I wish there were more Yo-Na and RO scenes.

I had to stuff a pillow in my face so I didn't wake the household I was laughing so hard! Yo Na and her Oppa! *squees* so funny and cute! And Ri On begging Ri Jin to save him and promising to be better from now on killed me! My stomach muscles are still sore. :)
This drama just keeps hitting all the right notes with me, and I loved the "fourth wall? What fourth wall?" Moments in this episode.
On a side note, our Ji Sung most definitely needs to capitalize on his sexy sexy lipgloss scenes and get a commercial deal or something! Yo Na's scenes are some of the most unforgettable in this series.

I was so hoping for this to happen! Yo Na's cafe scene in now one of my 'make me feel better' shorts just like John Oliver's salmon cannon. I had tears in my eyes. I just loved it! How she said she was saying so many words. Ha! Ri On's face was priceless. I am so jealous of all the fans who were able to be there.
PurpleCow thanks for the wonderful recaps but I'm going to have to disagree with one thing. Yo Na gets a point because she did get her kiss. I call tie.

I couldn't stop laughing after the successful kiss-lunge: Yo Na kicking her heels up with joy as Ri On wails and sinks out of frame. Ha!
I have to say, JS is pulling off a female character better than almost any man I've seen in a comedic role. He's really throwing himself into it - all those coy looks and terrifyingly teen-girl manipulations, he has them NAILED. Which is what makes Ri On's confusion so much better: "I can't hit a girl" and "oppa's clothes" followed by the instantaneous correction is brilliant. I'm actually quite impressed that they're giving Ri On complexity regarding Yo Na: he knows Do Hyun is a man, but his brain is telling him he's interacting with a woman, and rather than being disgusted and lashing out he's actually processing it and recognizing his own reactions.
It's more nuanced than I would've expected.

Yeah, the flashback issues have been concerning me since the first few episodes. Also the CG, they better have a real basement rather than green/blue screen. Director-nim, make it better, please!
Nevertheless, the highlight of this episode is Yona. I don't know if I like the crowd at Hongdae or not. It can be amusing as the team would like viewers to know that we are a part of the family (they announce the location and time in social media though but I don't think they expect that many people. The power of Yona!), but yeah I still think it's better if the crowd's not there.

I like the crowds lining the streets. It may be fan service, but it is better than shooting on empty streets at first dawn, which seems even less realistic.
If there are 3 persons, one running after another, shutting and hollering, against traffic in broad daylight, there would be ppl lined up to gawk at them. It's good that the show doesn't take itself too seriously. How could it, when Ji Sung looks like that. Plus, it's just fun.

Every single actor who's had a drama to film this winter has ended up with visibly red ears onscreen in outdoor scenes, from Lee Jong-seok to Ji Chang-wook and now Ji Sung. (just check any close-up where their ears are exposed - kiss scenes are usually the most obvious kind)

Yes, and sometimes I get a bit anxious when I see these actors in their relatively few layers (and with their breath condensing in the cold), compared to all those quilted jackets and things that the crew would be wearing in the BTS footage.
Mind you, in the big kissing scene in Secret, Ji Sung's ears were also bright red, and it didn't look like it was winter...

Playing so many personalities, some of them very emotional, w a lot of screen time,in a live shoot system, poor Ji Sung must not be getting much rest. He still looks fresh and 'pretty' as Yona. Simply Amazing! I've nothing but admiration for his professionalism, his art and his stamina.
This role was offered to other actors, one was Lee Seung Gi. I don't remember who the other actor was. The premise sounded weird and unpromising. But I'm really glad the role landed in Ji Sung's lap, n it has turned out so well. Our gain.

On paper, a drama featuring a hero that has 2 personalities makes more sense than 1 with 7. I remember when the post came out here to announce KMHM, everyone went: "NO, that's awful". Who could have known it'd turn out this well.
These two shows KMHM and HJM should go into textbooks for drama school students to show how writing n execution can make or break a show. Textbook cases.

Thanks for the recap (it's posted earlier than usual or is it just me?)
Anyway, about the fans in the street in Yo-na's scene, some people actually were bothered by it and complained that it broke the mood (even PSJ went out of character for a moment if you look closely) but as you said, this is a self-aware drama and there is a lot of fan-service in it so I liked it in that sense.
There are also others who found it befitting because this is "Yo-na's world" quoting her own words and we know who Yo-na is : a hardcore fangirl living in a world of pretty oppas and in that moment she was having her moment with her oppa chasing after her while fangirls became on-lookers while her dream became reality, it's all in her mind-eye the same way SG sees himself with that tattoo that comes and goes whenever he appears then disappears.
I agree about the episode being slow but it's a nice change of pace, especially knowing what's awaiting us in the next episode

Wow! Even if that were not the intention of having the crowd there, it does work lyrically. Yo-na's world would have crowds taking pictures of her run like (not) a graceful gazelle through the streets, her Oppa (any Oppa) chasing her, lip gloss being amply applied.
What is it about girls and their lip products? I remember a neighbor of mine being addicted to rootbeer flavored lip smackers. LOL
Mostly I just love the SHOW that includes its fan in the joy. Because Yo-na is pure joy. That is why she is here.
"Oh my, I came out. Ah, really, this ^#@*. He only brings me out when he's having a difficulty! Seriously!
Agh! I'm so ^#@* pissed! God, seriously!
Ah.. what are these tears? Geez, this is so annoying. Ugh.
Well, whatever, it's Ahn Yona's world now."
I's so funny yet it's as heartbreaking that she has to exist at all, and separately from CDH. I can't wait to see how CDH breaks free in his own way once AYN is integrated.

jomo - I must confess, I am also a flavoured lip balm/lipstick addict.
One reason is practicality - if it's cold, you need to keep your lips moisturised because chapped lips are really uncomfortable and can be painful, and the other is that it is pretty much second nature to just blindly swipe some on throughout the day. Also, if you are a girl who likes makeup, lipstick is much easier and more fun to apply than other kinds of makeup.

"but what I really loved was the running scene, when fans were allowed to line the streets and watch the filming. This show has always been self-aware, as we can see in the recurring bit where characters talk about what’s happening in front of their eyes as if it were a drama. Given that, it felt quite natural to have the fourth wall broken so spectacularly."
It's funny how I had the complete opposite reaction of you. While watching the scene, I was rather annoyed at the crowd because for me, it broke the fiction. Like I get that you love a drama and that you want to be there for the filming but I thought it was rather direspectful.
HOWEVER, I completely changed my opinion after reading your comment. Actually, what you said about the drama being self aware is true because I just remembered that in episode 14, when the family and Do Hyun are cheering for the New Year, all of them looked at the camera, like they were cheering for the viewers and it didn't feel awkward at all. It's like some kind of "clin d'oeil" (wink in English I believe) for them. I thought it was kinda cool at that moment to break the fiction/pause to be in RL/and to be again in the fiction like nothing happened XD. It's a nice touch.
Oh and I agree with your complain about flashbacks.

What can I say?
I should have known from the start that we're more than halfway to the end and this episode will once again end with an emotional bang!
My love for this drama has become bigger and bigger and It came to the point that I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing because It's all I think about everyday.
I really really love all about KMHM especially because I know that the actors are wholeheartedly invested in this show that they are willing to do those adlib services and they are also enjoying it.It brings positive energy to the drama that makes us enjoy it a lot more.
So far, I can say that I'm ready for whatever genre is going to conquer the next episodes, be it melo or not coz we'll be having revelations after revelations.
So be still our hearts!!!

Agree..
Not only the actors are emotionally invested in this show but we are too.
It's rare for me to be emotionally attached to a drama because I know it isn't real. But it's different with KMHM.
When DH and RJ are hurt, I also feel that my heart are torn into shreds and there are moments that I almost fainted when I couldn't stop crying because I almost couldn't bear the pain my heart felt during that time (Ep 14).

Thanks for the recap, purplecow!
I'm with you on the overuse of flashbacks - I get that the intent is to roll out information and add to the original memory, but frankly, unless the children you get for those parts are fantastic actors, it really doesn't work to give them so much screen time.
That and the sudden caught-in-almost-kiss freeze after Do-hyun went for Ri-jin's phone. Ji Sung and Hwang Jung-eum have chemistry that is positively electric and extremely natural at the same time, you don't have to stuff them into some unnatural kdrama cliche scene to show their changing feelings for each other when a mere gaze does the trick!
But there's still a lot to love about this episode, not least Yo-na. And Yo-na/Ri-on. And that amazing romp through Hongdae, ending in the epic three-way punchup! I almost cried tears of laughter over poor Ri-on's terror of her, now he knows what Ri-jin meant when he said there was a personality even more dangerous than Se-gi, haha! Se-gi can at least be cajoled into behaving because he likes Ri-jin and wants her approval, but that doesn't even come close to working on Yo-na!
And I did love the ending, Do-hyun's vulnerability combined with the courage it took to put it out there and ask her to see him as a man, is really ridiculously appealing. (I think we all knew from Day 1 that doctor-patient boundary thing was never going to work, this is a kdrama after all)

Again, I love this Ep!
The "Death" Card in fortune telling means "the end of a situation."
For me, it depicts that the time RJ locked away her memory will soon end.By the time she remembers the past, she'll have to face obstacles but in the end, there will be a new day and a new chapter of life that awaits her.
By the way, I'm sorry If I'll rant here but I really am pissed off at the scene when DH and RJ was supposed to go on a date trip at the Snowflake Train and that foxy b**** call ruined the scene. I wanna throw bombs at her at that time I really wished Perry Park came out.

There is so much well deserved love for the acting of our OTP but truly we wouldn't be having this much fun if Ri On

Regarding the OTP:
HJE's screaming n over acting almost made me give up on this show. Perhaps it was the director's idea n not her fault. Either way, it grated on me. I can't buy a psychiatrist who is so high strung, whatever her family dynamics. I only kept coming back for Ji Sung's acting. It isn't until this ep that RJ calmed down n I find HJE bearable.
PSJ is definitely a pleasant addition to the cast.

@KDaddict?JCW
I agree that HJE's facial expressions and shrieks were hard to take. I stayed on for the story and because I felt that given a change in the pace or scene, she would be able to also do more nuanced acting.
About the OTP and chemistry: strangely, after watching 13 episodes, I'm not too sold on their relationship. I don't feel the OTP chemistry as much as Ri Jin and Ri On's sibling chemistry... plus that RO is not always entirely just brotherly towards RJ, so there's a vague anticipation of other sparks that may fly. PSJ is more nuanced in his style, even in the comedic moments, which I like.
The best comedic chemistry was definitely between Ji Sung and PSJ, even without the kiss!! LOL!

Thank you for the wonderful recap.
The fortune teller saying RJ’s "juggling too many men" made me guffaw.
I love how as obvious as they are, there are so many call backs to strengthen the narrative: the wheel of fortune Tarot card, Oppa Ri-on hiding RJ's eyes from her crush, Ri-on using Se-gi's pick-up line...
I understand being wary of too many flashbacks. Weaker dramas use them continually to fill up time rather than film new stuff. This is slightly different though, as every time we see them, they are framed differently. Something has changed or a new piece of info is revealed.
This show gets a lot of lee way from me for any OTT content because they copped to it the first episode and haven't backed down yet. They are a melodrama telling the story with cartoonish antics along with touching quieter moments. As we have all said, it shouldn't work, but the cast makes it so watchable, and rewatchable.

@jomo: that's a very good point about the flashbacks, actually. I too am not very bothered by them, and I guess the reason for that is as you said: they show Do Hyun's initially incomplete memories being filled in bit by bit, and, as they take more definite shape, how hard it's going to be for him to deal with them. It's quite fascinating the way we've moved from the earlier, vaguely creepy scenes of a shadow looming over Do Hyun in basement, to the different but greater horror of physical and/or mental torture being inflicted on not one but two children.

I don't know if the show would have turned this way with other actors. Ji Sung is great as all the characters he plays in the drama and Hwang Jung Eum despite her tendency to scream has great chemistry with him, then there's Park Se Joon who fits great with both of them.

I just love Jisung's expressiveness. I'm having a hard time imagining any of the other Cha Dohyun candidates playing this part. I almost wish we could see Hyun Bin and Lee Seunggi each act out the first two episodes of this show, just to get some idea of how different their approaches/interpretations would be. But such a wish would be unfair, lol!
Who else thinks that Ri-on got what he deserved (i.e. the-out- of-this-world-experience-that-is-Yona) after disregarding Dohyun's feelings in the cafe?
I'm just hoping that this show does not resort to unnecessary plot devices or OTP obstacles. I just want the story to come to a conclusion as naturally as possible. Despite its faults, Kill Me, Heal Me is proving to be one of my favorite K-dramas.

I haven't personally found the flashbacks annoying, especially when they pointedly let us know what characters are thinking, and how they are making connections.
Seeing that whole string of flash running through Cha Do Hyun's mind as he came to realize the difficulties that Ri-Jin was having allowed me to see exactly how he was making connections.
Additionally seeing old information in a new context allowed me to make new connections of my own. For instance it seemed off to me that when Ri-Jin changed "kill me" to "heal me" she used the old "l" instead of writing a new one. Seeing that image again in a new context allowed me to read it as H-E-A Happily Ever After.

Thanks for the recap!
It was fun watch, but rather slow and, maybe I'm just spoilt because of the other episodes, but I thought they could have done a better job for this one.
Or rather with just YoNa's scene. She's a hilarious character and that scene could have been so much funnier if they had done it like they did the first YoNa scene. I felt the audience a distraction, and YoNa applying lipstick mid-run a major PPL move. I watched the first YoNa scene like eight times and still laughed over it, but this scene I was bit disappointed because it felt contrived.
Other than that, i enjoyed this episode. I absolutely loved how RiOn thinks of YoNa as a girl and doesn't want to use his martial arts skills on her, and mistakenly refers to himself as oppa in front of her. It was sweet that he respects her identity.
I think in this episode DH is putting the pieces together. I like to think that he suspects the truth even though he still hasn't got back his memories.

This episode is a bit slower than the others (I still don't know what the tarot card scenes were for), but I thought it did a good job of slowly and steadily building up Do Hyun's distress and hence paving the way for Yo Na's appearance. First he has to see the woman he loves in a dead faint. Then he misses his chance of getting to know her better because he has to deal with Chae Yeon, who proceeds to blame him for her own romantic issues. In the evening he discovers that Ri Jin is troubled too, but does not feel she can share her troubles with him. The next day he has to listen to his mother lie through her teeth. (And much as I love him as Yo Na, I was even more impressed by Ji Sung's stillness in that scene - it was as if he was in so much pain he didn't dare move.) Last but certainly not the least, Ri On basically warns him off Ri Jin. It was a miracle Yo Na didn't bust out earlier.
A lot of K dramas and movies tend to flip between comedy and seriousness quite suddenly, and not always successfully. In this case I think Yo Na's appearance was a much-needed break from all the agony that'd come before, and made sense in the context of her role in Do Hyun's current psychological make-up.

Hi Knewbie! I do find these few episodes slower that what we've seen so far too..
The tarot card thing was what both of them agreed to do together after food to see how things will go as Do Hyun embarks on finding the "other child". But, they got separated because of Ri Jin turning back for her phone and the tarot reader misunderstood his intentions so his love life ended up getting read. Do Hyun then ended up leaving the place before Ri Jin arrived who got her love life read anyway since she was there. Yeap. It was a mess.

Also, I was wondering, I think each of CDH's personality is connected with a particular emotion. A personality is triggered when he feels an excess of a particular emotion, I mean
SSG = Fear/Danger
PP = Adrenaline rush, maybe?
Yo-na = Frustration, since CDH siad she appears when he has to hold it in and bear it
Yo-sub = Despair
I haven't seen Nana so I wouldn't know about her, but I think Mr.X maybe the final personality we get, an amalgamation of all the above personalities when he is "healed"

I actually thought he would appear a couple of episodes ago, since the name Mr. X sounded mysterious. I thought Mr.X would've been the mystery solver, Sherlock Holmes-esque personality since they showed him twirling a wine glass in the 1st teaser. But since it looks CDH is figuring it out on his own, so the mystery solver becomes moot.

Hello, Andromeda :).
For some reason, when I was first watching this show, I thought that Mr. X would be a representation of the unknown Evil force, or the unknown perpetrator of wrongs done to both Dohyun and the child in the basement (later revealed to be Rijin). I remember positing in an early post that Nana might have a representation of Rijin. That was what got me thinking about Mr. X. Now I'm not so sure about the latter. Do you think Mr. X might appear in the next episodes? For some reason, I don't think that he would be Dohyun after the latter has completely healed (or amalgamated, to summarize what you wrote above). Rather, I got the impression that he would be another alter/persona. There is still time for him :).

Hello Peridot!
For some reason, I am unable to reply on your comment(its not showing me the "Reply" button at all), so I am replying to mine- apologies!!
I think Mr.X will appear in ep 15. Considering what happened in the end of episode 14- I feel it's time.
Hmm........ Mr. X as the perpetrator... could the gentle CDH's soul be so much broken that he has to become so evil? I remember the Doc saying that SSG never hurts women or children- which could be a direct consequence of what he witnessed/experienced.
Purva Huilgol
February 21, 2015 at 2:10 PM
and we know how violent he is.
Or the writers may take a totally different turn and have a whole new personality for Mr.X- the mysterious aristocrat or something, or he could be his Grandpa too!
Or as you said, he may be perpetrator, minus the violence though.

Hi again, Andromeda,
I also wasn't able to reply to the comments that followed my own, so I'm replying directly under your first comment (I believe).
I also think that Mr. X might appear in the next few episodes. And when I say "the representation of the evil force," I do not mean that anything expressly violent is necessarily part of that representation....I guess I can't really explain what I am trying to say in writing, lol! It is interesting that he is referred to as Mr. X, which could be a cool, mysterious name or just a way of saying John Doe. I believe that we will find out the answers to these questions (hopefully in the next two episdoes; let's keep our fingers crossed!).

I have a question about RJ's reaction to CDH after he came back to her house.
What was the line about the kiss exactly? Was she supposed to be jealous of him/her kissing RO? He brought it back later, but I didn't understand it.

I was confused too, but I think it was her frustration with the situation. I mean they finally decided to go on a date which was kinda cancelled because of Chae-yeon, and then she went off to take the break. When she finally gets to meet CDH, he is Yo-na, and moreover, landing his lips on her brother- that's one kiss less she's getting, lol

I was trying to figure out this line, too, since CDH refers to this line later in ep 14. I agree with Andromeda RJ is frustrated. She only starts to yell at him, though, before she cuts herself off. I think DH misinterprets her fragment of a comment (maybe purposely). It's confusing because it doesn't translate into English smoothly.
I think she's starting to fill him in on what happened while he was Yo-Na: "First of all, a kiss happened between Yu-Na and my brother." But all she says is "First of all, a kiss--" Then she doesn't want to explain any more, because she's so annoyed. But CDH turns it around in his mind into "First of all, a kiss needs to happen between you and me ASAP."

A lot of fans are actually confused with this one, but Ri Jin meant to say that they need to plan their story together lest her family asks why Do Hyun was there, but the term she used also meant to kiss. Literally, she said to "put our mouths together" as in match their story so they say the same thing, but it also translates to "kiss". Yeah, a lot of intended ambiguity in the dialogues.
Hope that helps!

That's an interesting theory about the good doctor! The only thing that would make me think otherwise is that he calls himself a goose father (meaning his wife and kids aren't close by, but he seems to know where they are which wouldn't be the case if he'd lost his daughter). I could be wrong (I was about everything else, LOL! I've given up on my own theorizing but I really look forward to what others have to say) but I don't think it's him. I'm leaning toward random man- unless it turns out to be CDH's best friend she ran off with which is why he (CDH's father) hates the child so much, but that is just my shot in the dark with no basis in (drama) reality theory before I gave it all up...or did I??:D

However, this is just a theory I thought up from watching too many kdramas, lol.

For once I am COMPLETELY confused as to who is related to who! I thought Ri On was adopted and by Ri Jin's parents and was Do Hyun's half brother. Now I don't know who's parents they are! Thankfully the thread at 18 calmed my worries about Do Hyun being blood related to Re Jin. Now you throw in Dr. Seok?! I need some family trees ASAP!
As for Mr. X - I think of him as a collector of information. I think he is waiting for the right moment and more information before he makes a decisive move. I think (hope) he will ruthlessly cut away all the obstacles (family) standing in 'their' way of living a happy life.
Question - does Ri Jin know she's not Ri On's blood He seems to know. (With unfortunate side effects.)
Sorry if I am going over old stuff but I missed last week.

Awww, I love the doc but I don't think so. My new, improvised theory to save our OTP from being related in any and whatsoever way is this, Ri On is MSY's real son and he is also Cha Joon Pyo's son. That would make Do Hyun his step-brother. She feared for his safety and gave him up to the Oh's. Ri Jin was adopted from the USA around the same time and MSY loved her anyway and bought her back with her and cared for her. And the granddad was aware of this whole thing. Cha Joon Pyo wasn't aware of any of it and possibly was either manic-depressive bipolar or had massive anger issues. He was under the impression that Ri Jin was the result of MSY's affair with another man and so he started to torture her and use her as a whipping boy for Do Hyun after MSY had died. The Oh's kept an eye out for Ri Jin after MSY's sudden death and they were part of the catering stuff during the party when the fire incident happened. They rescued Ri Jin and adopted her. This maybe a bit complicated theory but this way Ri Jin is in no way related to the Cha's and My OTP can have a happy ending.

I love your theory Blue Winter Rose. Now to see how the next few episodes unfold.
I think the flashback scenes are out to deceive us. Initially they showed Do Hyun as the abused and eventually things unravel and we got to see how things really went after countless flashbacks.
Maybe now the link between MSY & Ri Jin is being used as a distraction tactic to make us believe that they are indeed related while in fact MSY & Ri On is the real thing, as you suggested.
But the Oh parent's dynamics with Ri On is a little bit different from Ri Jin. Though Ri Jin did say that they provide equal love and attention to the twins but Mama Oh did look a little bothered by that comment? They seem to shower a lot more concern to Ri Jin or is it just me..

Oh Ji Sung, I applaud him! I love Yo Na.. It's like this drama has so many characters to like and they are all the same person. It's almost hard to believe...
The whole cafe scene was just awesome. The whole *sway* *sway* mode was hilarious and add Ri On's reaction to it.. The scene is gold. The girl has confidence. "I'll go up dance on the table"? Lol.
And lastly, the crowd did break the atmosphere a bit when I was watching it (especially the alley scene), but when you consider "It's Ahn Yo Na's world" line, I think I can kind of see it.

You know what totally sells this for me, and makes it work? Ri On's reaction is panicky and horrified, but it doesn't have an underlying layer of disgust. Basically, PSJ has NOT fallen into the easy trap of playing this as "gay panic".
Yes, in the cafe he loudly states that it's not what it looks like, but that's only when he realizes other people are staring at them and he doesn't say it in an "ick, I'm not gay!" way. The rest of the time he's selling it as a guy who is completely horrified by a loud, bossy, manipulative, strong, terrifying teenage girl.
The absence of that nasty homophobic edge is so incredibly important, and I'm so glad he didn't go the easy-laughs route and make this a gag about being pursued by a disgusting man in a hairbow. It makes Ri On an incredibly likeable character, and it helps JS be convincing as YoNa.
Well done actors, writer and director on all the choices made to arrive at that portrayal.

I think you are right.
His horror goes with SHOCK at hearing a man say "Oppa" and remembering what his shister said about CDH's other alters being worse than SG.
Like, OMG, what will she do next? How can I stop this runaway train before it leaves the station?
I can't say enough how perfectly PSJ played this scene - he made it work. The funniest moments were reaction shots vs YH being Yo-na.
Anvesha
February 22, 2015 at 4:49 PM
That's true and the fact that we can tell the difference PSJ's acting makes a lot of impact on the character portrayal. It would've been easy to play it off as "I'm not a homo"/disgusted reaction shots and it might've been funny but it wouldn't be the same.
I liked the character of ORO a lot more at that and it also made YN much more believable.. ORO refusing to use the 7th skill on a 'woman' and calling himself oppa. That's both good writing and acting.

I tend to have more negative feeling to that kind of portrayal
but she just sold it to me
at the end, all I want to see is how hilarious ri-on face, how happy yo-na is and how the cameo in cafe or in the street cheering for her
please sistar or sister or anything they said in english can be use in gag con since
it is so good seeing a lovely yet protective brother that do have feeling (which sometimes loose) and understanding how they actually match at some unnecessary yet captivating english words

it just like they talked to us to just enjoy it while understanding it
can believe on gag lady appearance, park seo joon engrish (seriously I love his conversation with ri jin)
can't agree on how ri-jin still have self aware on what she doing despite lack experience

the crowd thought
and ji-sung oppa to unnie yo-na
well I think I need to stop writing before making another recap

Thanks purplecow for the recap! There are so many things that I agree with purplecow. The flashbacks were used is rather tiresome for me to watch since there is no new materials.
But for the rest of the episode, IT IS AWESOME. I liked the change in pace in this episode. It feels like Do Hyun and Rijin are taking baby steps to get into a relationship. The wheel of fortune is epic. EPIC. It is a pun in multiple level. So so good.
As for Chaeyeon, I like her development. Writer nim did not make her a really irritable character! CHEERS! Sure, She is manipulative but she did not stoop too low by telling others about Segi's seduction after Do Hyun's speech.
The transition of heal me is really smooth. Anyone REALISE its Do Hyun reaching for Rijin's hand now? Gah!
And drama gods really answered to the prayers!!! YONA IS SO ADORABLE. I want her to be my BFF. Yona's appearance is definitely the best. It never fails to bring laughter and her lines is so funny!!

Since last week's episodes I've been thinking that this is not so much a love triangle as it is a love circle, where Ri-on chases Ri-jin who chases Do-huyn who chases Ri-on. I imagined a scene like that, but this chase scene exceeded all my hopes. Hilarious.
I was ok with the 4th wall being broken, as I, like others here, interpreted it as being from "Yo-na's world", where she sees herself as the star of her own little idol-obsessed drama. We saw in her previous appearance that Do-huyn was never actually wearing the pink jacket, but in "Yo-na's world" he was. Only the pink lipstick and hair bow were real, However, when I follow this line of reason, I then can't make out why Ri-on tells him to change into some of "Oppa's" clothes. Wasn't he actually wearing a light jacket and gray turtleneck? It would have made more sense if Ri-on had shown him Oppa's bathroom to wash off the lipstick.
And yes, I definitely got the feeling that there was a little too much flashback as filler. I kept thinking, "Enough, I got it already! Did the writer run out of words?'"

I the ♥ "Love Circle" part.. It really is :)
It's rare for a Kdrama to have it.. It is usually a love triangle or a square.
I don't know if too much flashbacks are more of the writer's fault. I think It's more of the director's fault. Anyway, I'm more into seeing that the writer is doing better than the director in this drama.(Nevertheless, I love their tandem). Maybe it's just me, but I don't mind!

Loved, loved, loved the episode. And I have a new OTP that I ship. Yo Na and Ri On. Plot didn't move that fast in this episode but I truly enjoyed this episode. We are almost at the end and I am wondering when Nana and Mr. X will appear. Only 6 more episodes to go. I trust the writers and hopefully this show will avoid any noble idiocy and the biological mystery will be addressed and solved pretty quickly. Especially Ri Jin's percentage needs to be confirmed. She can not be related to the Cha family in any way, I don't want that. As for Ji Sung, this guy is just beyond perfection when it comes to acting. And I love the whole environment of KMHM set. From the BTS, its so clear that the PD trust the actors and gives them enough freedom to act the scene and even change it here and there to get the best result out. They always discuss and act out the scenes and they are always laughing so much. I am going to miss the BTS too once this show ends.
And I have a question, MBC has the habit of casting the second male lead as a central character in back to back dramas so does that mean there is hope of seeing Park Seo Joon in another MBC show as a lead. I would love for that to happen. After Witch's Romance I wasn't expecting him to take a second lead role but he did which makes me wonder.

There is this thing about star power. Between Park Seo Jeon and Jisung, Jisung would attract more viewers and easier to settle the drama investment. Furthermore it would be better and safer to get a veteran actor to act this role because it is already difficult to play 2 person, he have to play 7 now. And true enough, Jisung did not disappoint us and exceed our expectations. Plus, Jisung worked with the current PD roughly 10 years ago.
Park Seo Jeon is too new in this acting industry. I have to say that he is brilliant in his job. To be honest, I thought he would screw this character at first because I did not watch Witch Romance and there is less than 5 dramas under his belt. But I'm so glad that he pick up the role because I couldn't imagine other Rion too. Rion is such a complex character that I don't think any actor who receive such role would reject it plus it is so hard to come by. We hardly could see any good taboo infused character in dramaland.

I think only ri-on motivation and story (just accept do hyun wasn't main lead or have DID)
is maybe enough for 12 ep of drama
as a famous mystery writer hide his identity trying to help his sister trauma because he adore her (not in romantic way) later tangle in dark secret of chaebol family corporation
