Kill Me, Heal Me: Episode 10
by Saya
This is Se-gi’s episode. Snappy wardrobe improvement aside, things are getting seriouser and seriouser. We already knew there was pain at the root of Se-gi’s existence, but the catalyst of Ri-jin’s proximity and the recent events around Do-hyun bring the locked-up memories back to the surface.
With the thickening plot, a light is cast on the sins of the past, revealing more than one hand in covering them up. Se-gi’s endgame is more than just getting the girl, but while his desires are simple, are they also impossible?
EPISODE 10 RECAP
In Do-hyun’s dream, his child-self huddles in the basement playroom, but he smiles when a hand reaches towards him. Adult Do-hyun realizes that someone else was in the basement with him, and asks who it is. Child Do-hyun grips the hand and beseeches the figure not to go, to stay and play with him. They fall asleep together, hands clasped.
In the present, mirroring his dream, sleeping Do-hyun grips Ri-jin’s hand, and murmurs the same words.
They wake up facing each other, and Ri-jin asks him if he’s okay. Then her eyes widen, and she asks, “Shin Se-gi?” In a moment, he’s on top of her, demanding to know why she’s in Do-hyun’s bedroom. Trapped beneath him, she tells him about becoming Do-hyun’s secret doctor. Se-gi jumps to the conclusion that her job is to get rid of him.
He drags her out by the wrist, determined not to leave her at Do-hyun’s side, but she argues that she’s here as an arbiter so he and Do-hyun can work things out. Temper flaring, he says that this can only end if one of them disappears, and she can’t choose them both. “Would you like me to disappear?” he asks her. Cupping her hands over his, she says it’s not her choice to make.
“You’ve completely fallen for Cha Do-hyun,” he says. Does she really believe his intentions are innocent? Se-gi leaves her with the laptop containing his video message to Do-hyun.
She follows Se-gi instead, and he tells her that since Do-hyun broke the “rule,” he’ll have to punish him. He explains that Ri-jin is Do-hyun’s hostage, so he can both protect his woman, and threaten Se-gi. It’s funny that he’s not exactly wrong.
He sweeps out and Ri-jin chases him down and slips. On her knees, she begs him to tell her what he’s planning. He cryptically replies that he’s going to ruin Do-hyun’s world — so much that he can never clean it up: “So that he’ll hide and never come back, I’m thinking of punishing him thoroughly.”
He turns away, and Ri-jin clutches him in a hug. “Let’s go together,” she tries. He breaks out of her grip. “If you’re not going to have me, don’t touch me,” he tells her. He locks her in and leaves in the red Ferrari.
Ri-jin returns to the laptop, and gasps at the video of Se-gi warning Do-hyun not to mess with his woman. Ri-jin looks up Chae-yeon’s address, and Chief Ahn arrives. Ri-jin assigns the chief to stay at the apartment in case of Se-gi’s return. She takes to the road, with a good idea of where he went.
Chae-yeon’s reception of her engagement ring from Ki-joon is subdued. He sweetly apologizes for his reaction to the rumors, and for putting his reputation before her feelings. He puts the ring on her finger with a happy smile.
Later, she walks Ki-joon to his car. He spots the red Ferrari but doesn’t see Se-gi. Immersed in the shadows, Se-gi watches Chae-yeon go inside.
Chae-yeon’s phone rings, and she eventually answers what she thinks is Do-hyun’s call. She tells him she’s engaged to Ki-joon and he shouldn’t call again. Undeterred, Se-gi pulls her strings, telling her he misses her and wants to meet. She continues to be brusque, but is freaked out when he notes that she’s alone, since Ki-joon just left.
Her doorbell rings and Se-gi goads her to open it — it might be Ki-joon. Although she can’t see anyone, she opens the door anyway, only to be greeted by Se-gi. Note to readers: Don’t try this at home, seriously.
She tells him to leave, and reminds him of his (i.e. Do-hyun’s) warning to avoid him if he crossed the line. Se-gi is mildly impressed by Do-hyun’s forethought. Seeing her engagement ring, he muses that he wanted to put it on her, and Chae-yeon wears a caught expression.
He barges his way in in the name of wine, and the door clicks shut behind them.
Ri-jin parks up behind Se-gi’s car, and catches him coming out of Chae-yeon’s house. He doesn’t tell her what happened. Shrugging off her grip again, he heads to his car. She points him to her car — no, not the driver’s seat — and he complies with the enthusiasm of a sullen teenager.
She demands to know what happened with Chae-yeon. His answer, to use her imagination according to how much she trusts him, frustrates her. But he’s made his point. He tells her that the mad curiosity she feels about not knowing what he’s been doing is exactly how he feels about her and Do-hyun. And she betrayed his trust, he adds. I just noticed how much lower Se-gi’s voice is than Do-hyun’s.
Ri-jin is tired of his games, and asks him what it will take him to stop. Looking her in the eye, he says, “Instead of me, kill Cha Do-hyun.” She doesn’t even have that level of ability, she replies.
They’re met at home by an anxious Chief Ahn, and Se-gi chides him for not recognizing him. Chief Ahn suggests Ri-jin stay elsewhere for the night, but she declines — she and Se-gi have things to talk about.
Pouring himself some wine, Se-gi tells her that if she stayed in the hope of Do-hyun returning, she’ll be disappointed. “That jerk is never coming back. The seal to his memory has been broken,” he elaborates. Ri-jin asks if he knows about the year’s worth of missing memory. “Of course,” he replies, “because I was born to cope with them.”
Following a hunch, she asks if she is in them. He promises to tell her only if she chooses him. Ri-jin explodes. Is he stupid? She already told him she doesn’t have that ability, but he replies that the longer she delays in choosing him, the more he will ravage Do-hyun’s world.
She sleeps on Do-hyun’s couch, and a blanket is drawn over her. She opens her eyes, and asks, “Cha-gun?” He responds, “Yes, I’m Cha Do-hyun.” Oh no, this is too suspicious. That look in his eyes is too calculating. She was worried he was gone, and she tells him she can’t handle Se-gi. He thanks her for what she’s done so far.
The next morning, Se-gi pulls up at Chae-yeon’s house as she comes out. She’s startled by his full Se-gi glory, all sharp wardrobe and styled hair. But he’s only here to collect his car, and tells her he’ll be back tomorrow for the other one.
At the company, Ki-joon is disturbed to see Se-gi come out of the same car he saw outside Chae-yeon’s house the night before.
Se-gi’s edgy look turns heads all morning, and he plucks hearts left and right, while captions (“an uncommonly handsome man”) follow him. Hahahaha. He makes himself comfortable in Grandma Seo’s office, and greets dead Grandpa’s portrait from her chair, a cynical smile on his face.
Secretary Ri-jin and Chief Ahn scour the company looking for Do-hyun. A run-in with Ki-joon’s secretary makes them realize that it’s Se-gi in the driver’s seat, not Do-hyun.
Se-gi flips boredly through a presentation, legs resting on the table…in the middle of a staff meeting. Lol. Ri-jin and Chief Ahn burst in, and since Se-gi won’t leave quietly, they end up wheeling the recalcitrant VP out by the chair.
In the corridor, Se-gi fumes. He throws off Ri-jin’s arms, telling her not to touch him. Annoyed with his repeated anti-touch tirades, she puts her hands aaalllll over him while he flails, but Chief Ahn restrains her with the reminder that they’re at the office.
This puts Se-gi back in control. He points out that here, he is VP Cha Do-hyun, and he has a meeting to attend. He wheels himself back in. He’s such a teenager, ha. Chief Ahn tells her Se-gi’s right — the meeting is mandatory so he has to attend. He’s interrupted by a call from Do-hyun’s mom, inquiring after Ri-jin.
The staff meeting is properly under way, headed by Ki-joon. Se-gi is so focused on making notes that he doesn’t notice Ki-joon addressing him. Chief Ahn, hovering nearby, looks over Se-gi’s shoulder, and LOL his “notes” are variations on “Oh Ri-jin ♥ Shin Se-gi" and cusses against his cousin. Hahaha. Chief Ahn hurriedly disposes of it.
Ki-joon asks Se-gi if he's found Omega. Se-gi has no idea what that means ("Do I even have to catch tuna for you now?"), but Chief Ahn interjects that the film rights have been secured, and signed off on by the mystery writer himself.
Ki-joon grudgingly acknowledges his efforts, but tells him the production will now be turned over to someone else. “How cheap,” Se-gi shoots. He accuses Ki-joon of using him, and asks if he isn't ashamed to openly cast him off like this, now that he's got what he wants.
The rest of the employees gape, but Ki-joon doesn’t rise to it. He simply repeats that the other manager will now head the production. But Chief Ahn reports that Omega’s contract condition was that Do-hyun remain in charge of it.
But in his office later, Ki-joon loses his temper with his secretary (who’s impressed by Do-hyun’s puppy-to-hyena transformation) and has a fit of fury on his own.
Se-gi wonders to Chief Ahn how Do-hyun can be such a fool as to take being put down all the time. Chief Ahn schools him on “responsibility” — unlike him, Do-hyun endures what he must to take care of what he has to protect. Se-gi snarks that the chief and Do-hyun sure are a match made in heaven, but it’s a shame since Do-hyun’s never coming back.
Se-gi notes that he hasn’t seen Ri-jin for a while, and Chief Ahn says she’s meeting with his mom. The news causes Se-gi to seize the chief by the lapels, furiously demanding to know where she is and what the hell he was thinking in putting them together. He storms away after her.
At a restaurant, Do-hyun’s mom gifts Ri-jin a handbag. Although she doesn’t want to accept it, Mom makes her snip the label off and forces her to keep it. She admits it was a bribe, and asks after her son.
Remembering Do-hyun’s nightmares, Ri-jin asks Mom about his year of missing memories, and whether anything bad happened to him then. Mom shifts in her seat and says nothing happened.
Ri-jin then asks if he had a close friend his age when he was younger, and now Mom is really rattled. But she’s saved (or not) by Se-gi’s arrival. He barks at Ri-jin to get up, and before he drags her out, turns to Mom in warning, “Don’t call her out again.” After he leaves, Mom panics at the thought that he might have remembered everything.
Se-gi deposits Ri-jin in his car. She can’t understand why he’s so angry, and tells him his mom must be lonely and in pain. Se-gi, his voice rough with his own pain, spits back, “In pain? Lonely?” Should he take off her mask, he asks, and reveal what kind of woman she is?
“At the scene of abuse, where a person’s soul was being fragmented, there are three types of people. Victim, assailant…and bystander. If just one of those three were absent, the bad thing wouldn’t have happened.”
Ri-jin processes the confession of abuse with horror, while Se-gi continues. “That woman was a bystander. Using that [knowledge] as a weapon, she has survived in Seungjin. Even now, she orders them around under its threat. But could I love that woman?” he asks Ri-jin, struggling to contain his feelings.
Ri-on does some indoor rock-climbing with his editor, but his mind is elsewhere. He puts together all the pieces of his research, along with his encounters with Do-hyun and his various alters, until he figures something out. Ri-jin echoes in his head: “What if it happens against his will?” Her connection to Do-hyun, her job as his private doctor…a man she likes — it all resolves into a picture he doesn’t like at all.
Se-gi and Ri-jin arrive back at his apartment, and he orders her to pack up — they’re leaving. But she asks him why he keeps quiet, when he knows what the missing memories are. He’s slow to answer, and without meeting her eyes, he says, “That bastard can’t handle it.”
Ri-jin disagrees — Do-hyun can handle it. “Then we will die!” Se-gi shouts, “We were made to take his pain for him. If his pain goes away, all of us die.” His ultimatum to Ri-jin finally makes sense: Either Do-hyun carries on living like he has been, or Se-gi lives instead of him. It can only be one or the other.
She repeats her earlier question to him. The memories which he has, that Do-hyun doesn’t — is she in them? He doesn’t answer.
The doorbell rings, and Ri-jin is surprised that it’s Ri-on. Taking her by the hand, he tells her they’re going home. Ignoring her objections, he sticks her into his car and threatens to tell everyone at ID Entertainment that Do-hyun has DID if she leaves it. She’s shocked that he knows. He tells her that now he knows about the dangerous situation, he can’t leave her there, so she should just do as she’s told.
“Are you even her real brother?” Se-gi asks, arriving on the scene. “Cha Do-hyun?” Ri-on asks. The two men face off, and Ri-on clocks that this isn’t Do-hyun. Se-gi wonders how many people have caught on to their secret.
Ri-on informs him that he’s taking his sister back, but Se-gi demands to know on what authority he’s doing so. “As her brother,” he replies. Se-gi threatens to take his eyes out if he carries on claiming a brother’s rights while looking at her with the eyes of a man. Ri-on remains unruffled. He tells Se-gi that he has even less right. In his ear, he finishes, “Because you are Seungjin Group’s son.”
His words root Se-gi to the spot. As they drive away, his eyes well up and his face contorts with pain.
In the car, Ri-jin asks what he said to Se-gi to make him look so sad. Ri-on is too angry to engage in their usual camaraderie. Arriving home, he instructs his sister to ask their parents’ forgiveness. He also tells her not to mention either Do-hyun’s name or Seungjin’s.
The family have company already. Dr. Seok regales the parents with proud stories of their daughter, who comes in right on cue.
After her confession, Ri-jin is all contrition. But her parents are still disappointed that she lied to them (and Mom tries to beat her with a pineapple, LOL), and even more shocked to find that Dr. Seok also knew. They deplore her for not trusting them, but Dr. Seok explains that it was because she had to keep the patient’s secret. He tells them that he’s ashamed of trying to dissuade her, when she followed her conscience as a doctor, and asks them to forgive her this time.
Ri-on burns the midnight oil looking through his Cha family scrapbook. He sighs that Do-hyun hasn’t, in fact, been living happily all this time, “Seeing how your heart has been broken to pieces.”
Ri-jin joins Dr. Seok for late-night snacks and thanks him for his support earlier. He asks about Do-hyun not coming back. She tells him that Se-gi said he went into hiding when the seal to his memory broke, but Dr. Seok doesn’t know what it means either. Ri-jin thinks the key to the memory is in the last nightmare he had.
She worries that he really might not return. Dr. Seok thinks there’s a possibility that when the seal broke, there was some kind of exchange between them. Either Do-hyun will come back stronger, or Se-gi will overpower him and stay in control.
Se-gi watches himself in the mirror, and Dr. Seok continues in voiceover: The most important thing for Do-hyun is how he’ll deal with the pain of his memories. “All we can do is trust him and wait,” he finishes.
“Are you there, Cha Do-hyun?” Se-gi asks his reflection. It’s time to deal with the past, he tells him. The people who made him into a monster can’t be let off. “Shall I do it, or will you? If you want to do it, come out. You can’t?” This scene is cut so hauntingly. If he can’t, then he should just stay crumpled up and never come back, he tells his distorted image. But a tear rolls out, belying his angry words.
He leaves the bathroom, and all that remains is an empty reflection.
Grandma Seo enters her dark office and is shocked by Se-gi’s presence. Se-gi tells her he was only doing what she said, “Like a night robber, making no sound. Living quietly as if I didn’t exist.” She’s suddenly fearful, and with that sharp smile, he asks if she remembers. He muses that everyone thinks he’s lost his memories — as if they hoped for it.
She asks him what he wants. Seungjin Group, he says. “Give it to me, Grandmother.” He tells her that waiting for her son to wake up is futile, and picks up his portrait. Grandma is frantic to retrieve her precious picture from him and they scuffle.
He purposely drops it, and to her distress, it shatters. Her usual ire returns and she raises her hand to hit him, but he blocks her easily. Se-gi offers to end her lingering attachment for her, and fear fills her face.
Se-gi drives furiously, and arrives at his father’s bedside. All we can see is Se-gi’s twisted reflection until he settles by his father.
Stroking his face, he tells him he shouldn’t have saved him back then, seeing how he’s in a coma now. “I became a monster because of you, father. Should I…let you rest peacefully?” His hand moves ominously towards a valve.
From deep inside, a disembodied voice asks why he’s being disturbed: “I’ve suffered so much.” Is Do-hyun back? With tears on his face, his hand touches his father’s cheek. “Father…” he sighs.
COMMENTS
Was seeing his assailant’s face the trigger Do-hyun needed to wake up?
This episode, we arrive at the inherent contradiction of their existence — the Harry Potter dilemma, “neither can live while the other survives.” The consequence of Do-hyun dealing with his pain and achieving wholeness is an automatic death sentence to the alters, the way Se-gi sees it. He can only survive if he maintains the status quo: Though they all live half-lives, at least they live. It makes sense that this affects Se-gi the most deeply, because as we’ve seen before, his desire to live — to exist — is the most intense. While abstract arguments can be used that they’ll live on in Do-hyun’s heart, to Se-gi, those are only euphemisms for oblivion and the end of his external existence.
What is striking and unexpected is how profoundly Se-gi is affected by the contradiction, because he wants both things — not only his survival, but also Do-hyun’s healing. It’s a conflict Do-hyun doesn’t experience, because he sees the alters as little more than symptoms — secondary existences that cause problems in his real world, where he is the primary agent. While it’s not unnatural that he sees it that way, it makes him unable to really engage with Se-gi or understand his anguish.
In the mirror scene near the end, Se-gi’s battle of hope and despair against Do-hyun is stark and powerful. He wants him to come out and fight his fight, he dares him. Mixed in with the anger, there’s a thread of hope, but it’s overpowered by precedent. Do-hyun has never stayed to fight. But you get the feeling that if only he would, Se-gi would be his first cheerleader, even when it comes at the risk of his own existence. What he can’t bear is (what he considers) Do-hyun’s weakness.
Ri-on brought home to Se-gi how trapped he is in Do-hyun’s life. Even if Do-hyun ceased to exist, Se-gi has to live in his world using his name. And his inescapable fate in Cha Do-hyun’s body is with Seungjin and those responsible for their abuse — principally Grandma Seo and his mom. I’m not surprised by Grandma’s role, especially given her unhealthy obsession with her son, but I was surprised that Mom was also an enabler. Both are unforgivable, but Mom’s betrayal is worse. Circumstances seem to point to his dad as the main perpetrator, and, ugh, that’s so… chilling and sad. But from a writing point of view, it’s a little odd that neither Ri-jin nor Dr. Seok would have suspected childhood abuse already, as it’s one of the key causes of dissociative disorders. But I guess this is dramaland, so let’s go with it.
Like Ri-jin, I believe that present Do-hyun can deal with his past. His main obstacle is that his subconscious mechanism to dissociate kicks in reflexively, faster than he can consciously work through his distress. We’ve had some small glimpses of him holding on to his consciousness for short periods, so it’s possible, but he’ll have to pull out all the fire and determination he can muster if he wants to stay present.
But Se-gi’s not actually bad. He’s reckless and immature, and Ri-jin brings out all his sides. He goes from debonair to dangerous in a flash, but he’s much more innocent (and breakable) than he pretends — that glass of wine with Chae-yeon was probably exactly that. There’s a childlike aspect to the way he leads Ri-jin along by the hand all episode. Instead of dominance, it felt more like it was about reassurance. By the same token, he lacks a useful working knowledge of how to live (and work) as a functional adult, which makes him as inexperienced at life as Yo-na or Yo-sub. He’s Do-hyun’s mirror and opposite: emotionally tough, but not emotionally mature. It’s also reflected in his tendency to see the world in black and white: with me or against me, hurting me or helping, and his assumption that his view is the only view.
I missed crazy Ri-on this episode, but since half of it is hyperbole anyway, it’s not bad to see him shed it and step up as the deadly serious brother. I feel like his parting words to Se-gi carry a double edge, implying that either there is some kind of taboo family relationship (unlikely to be a blood one, though), or that the Seungjin family is responsible for the forgotten trauma in Ri-jin’s past, or indeed both. Se-gi’s reaction — his sense of guilt — and the mounting evidence that she is the other child in his basement, says that he isn’t wrong.
I hope Ri-on’s tacit admission of unbrotherly feeling doesn’t force him into the second-lead role (especially when he doesn’t have a chance). It would add an unnecessary layer of angst and drag the show to mediocrity. This show excels in focusing on interesting conflicts, and it’s much more interesting for the story and his character to maintain the current tension. But it feels like Hwang Jung-eum is beginning to overdo things. The needless exaggeration detracts from the natural gravitas she brings to Ri-jin’s serious side, which is more fundamental to her character, so I hope she tones it down a bit.
Ah, but I can’t choose between them either, because this week I missed Do-hyun. Can’t we keep both of them? Or… all of them?

yeah..as much as I love all those funny moments of the characters, the real reason why this drama is very dear to me is because there is heart to it than just acting. Ji Sung and Hwang Jung Eum there is not themselves but they are totally into their characters.

Kathy I was just about to say that and saw your comment. It is killing me!!! I feel of Segi.... And I'm dying to know what Ri On meant! Did he say that because Segi could be related to Ri Jin OR because Segi is where Ri Jin should be and she is the rightful heir???
Kathy you're not the only one! I've been lurking here and Soompi as well. Very interesting theories there!
Thanks for the great recap Saya!

That's what I thought too.
1) It's because they could be related (which would be the obvious conclusion, seeing as he (Ri On) just backfired Se-Gi's comment about Ri On looking at his "sister" like a lover while in fact Se Gi does the same.
2) It's because of what happened with Ri Jin. Obviously his family abused Ri Jin or harmed her or whatever, because she had memory loss too. And that#s why he meant it. But the first one is the more fitting, because even we viewers question it.
Are they related, are they not? Obviously, the answer is no, because then the producers would have never gone as far as letting them kiss already. This probably will be an issues once they find out they are presumabely from the same family (there always is a "break up" before the last make up in K-dramas right?) and torn them apart.

Lol. So true. Worse, some of them look mature that you'd think they're an oppa...only to have your heart crushed later once you find out they're younger by years.
At least now, we can dreamily look up to Ji Sung oppa in peace, knowing yes, he's an oppa. XD

Se Gi is such an interesting character.. He is Do Hyun's biggest helper (by taking his pain) and somewhere he I wants Do Hyun to rise above his weakness. But if it happened he would not exist. I feel his pain. I would really miss his character. So I hope we get to see more Se Gi in Do Hyun before we end.
The hilarious beats in this episode were totally making me lol. I didn't think they would make "don't touch me, if you won't have me" line (which by the way was hot!) to what it became in the office.
And I think the doctors probably didn't ask about abuse because it's known that his father saved him? I'm also surprised they never explored that during his treatment.

Ji Sung just completely put himself into a class way above others with this show. His acting is just on the spot! The weaving between heart tugging and funny is also perfect, way to go, writer nim!
I also wish Ri Jin didn't seem surprised about DH being abused as a child, isn't that pretty obvious with DID? But I'm still on the fence on who exactly abused him? Cause from the conversation btwn grandma and herself (haha!) I thought the dad saved him?
Also, as much as Se Gi is rough, I notice that he doesn't pull Ri Jin on her wrist, but always holds her hands instead. Also, no matter how angry he is, he still manages to make sure RJ doesn't bump her head on the car when he drags her from conversation with his mom. Rich chaebol first lead in other dramas could learn a thing or two from him.

I noticed that head-shielding movement he did too! It was so adorable that even in his het-up state he still makes sure that she doesn't hurt herself. I hadn't noticed the lack of wrist/arm-grabbing, but I will look for it from now on.
Man, the more I watch this show and the more comments I read, the more I realize that Ji Sung really has put SO much thought into each of these personalities. His hard work and dedication has really paid off!
You're so right about other first leads learning a thing or two from our Se Gi-ah. I'd LOVE it if they retired the Korean Man Arm Grab™ from dramas forever (or if every time they did it, the heroine stepped HARD on their insole).

I think probably he save him from the fire..
And the answer for the next question is..
For the holding hand part, I think it is Segi's habit with Nana. They always hold hands when they show flashback..
For the car part, I think it's just Jisung's habit because he always do that. Secret also the same action when he pull her into the car... *soft voice*

That hand shielding moment stood out for me as well. Segi may be brusque but he's still DoHyun deep down and therefore also gentle. He's not a bad person he's just in pain....I bet that could be Ji Sung adding his own touch to the scene. I am so in awe of Ji Sung in this drama. Especially when I see behind the scene clips. He's a genius in interpreting his character and executing that interpretation! He continuously goes beyond any kind of expectation I have. Episode 10 is perhaps one of the best episodes I've seen so far....but then again all episodes after episode 2 are pretty amazing!

This is a good recap, Saya, but I disagree on one point...I'm not at all sure the father was the abuser. I am certain I remember the father saving him being mentioned on a few occasions.
It's bound to be something tied up with the existence of the sister-in-law (who became adopted into the family, as well, instead of the other brother?) and that child she brought back with her from the states, and the grandfather dying in the car accident with the daughter-in-law.
I'm not sure why they hid him away, but I think the hiding was the extent of any physical abuse, although there'd have to be significant emotional abuse in that situation as well.

My guess is he ironically says that because as a result of his father saving him, he ended up being hidden, locked up, abused, a fate much worse than death.

I think it may be Joon Pyo or Jun pyo's idea of saving him is to lock him up instead of throw him in one island?
The perpetrator could be more than one person or it could be Grandma herself. We can see that Grandma actually know the existence of Segi (except that she think he is Dohyun) but Segi hates her too.

I think SG said that everyone wanted him to be hidden. Maybe that was the abuse. They were embarrassed about the illegitimate child and had him hidden away in the basement. It might not feel bad to an adult but to a kid it would be torture. And if he remained there for days/months it would have triggered SG to be created .

lots of good points/theories in this thread but i want to add, an adult locked alone in a basement is absolute torture/abuse. albeit they might be able to last longer before a mental break than a child could but there's been studies proving that any human being that undergoes severe and prolonged isolation (in the form of solitary confinement or the like) is at a high risk for depression, suicide, a total breakdown of reality, brain damage etc etc. since he lost a year of his memories i'm actually scared that he was locked up there for a YEAR which is so awful that his mind shattering into 7 diff personalities makes a world of sense. (funny how such an absurd premise turned out to have a pretty strong internal logic to it)
and if Se Gi is the one who knows everything, and has had to feel everything that Do Hyun didnt have to feel i can see why he'd be bitter as fuck about having to "go away" when he's the one whose been fighting all this time but i think a part of him is also exhausted too and sad and i think se gi/dohyun becoming a Whole instead of fragments would give Se Gi peace at last and Do Hyun the strength he needs to fight and face his abusers head on.

Existance
We never knew how important something before it will leave us
Like how do hyun wish and se gi wish to just spend just little longer moment with ri jin
A woman who accept and helps him (dh)
A girl with bad memory but now can live happily (sg)
If it just about love and protect the one you love i understand se gi
He appear after meeting ri jin, he need to keep blocking the horrible memory of dh and ri jin if dh wasn't ready
So he need to protect them by put dh to sleep and be with ri jin
But his desire as long lost unaccepted child is awaken
Like talking to dh "I have done my share so now you serve your time too "
But he knew, deep down dh need to face it
They have to understand each position
As much as i want dh to appear again.
I can't send se gi back like that too.......

Goodness! The scene with Segi crying was perhaps my favorite moment of this episode. And I was wondering about the full implications of the words that Rion whispered in his ear. (As an aside, I hope that Rijin puts her brother in his place. She is an adult and she has committed herself to helping Dohyun. She needs to tell her brother to not talk down to her. He may be angry and afraid, but he has to respect her decisions. And I hope that his romantic feelings are not having some influence on his behavior.)
Its so interesting to see Segi in action. He harbors all of Dohyun's anger and sadness and yet comports himself like a child. It's like he can't find a way to properly channel his emotions.
Lastly, I like the exploration of existence and non-existence and how the way both concepts are understood depends upon the perspective one is looking at.

People have said that but with Pinocchio it's actually really different because a) they both like each other like you said b) I feel like because the audience spent time with their younger versions we see that they were never introduced as siblings or twins (like in this show) and he was only her "uncle" by name because they didn't want Granpa to go into shock. She only addressed him that way because of that. They also never grew up calling each other siblings/twins...and they never played the part either. That's why I was okay with it, while here I'm just disgusted.

agree. i'm glad u said that i was feeling offended on behalf of Pinocchio writer's hahah. i even think this drama is more entertaining than Pinocchio which i also liked alot but the ship in Pinocchio isnt creepy at all. its very mature, healthy, sweet and honest.
but Ri On's feelings are GROSS. the fact that he is acting like he can dictate her life cuz he's her "oppa" when in fact his romantic feelings are influencing his actions alot (or even entirely) makes it EXTRA gross. the worst part is she has NO idea about it. she just innocently loves him as a brother and doesnt even know she's adopted. like she thinks thats her real brother out of the womb and he knows he's not and is into her "like that" and i want to throw up tbh? like...WHO thought this would be ok????
and he better not ever reveal it. i actually cheered when Se Gi called out Ri On's hypocrite ass, talking about brotherly rights while eyeing her in a very non brotherly way. like idg why this same plot couldnt have occured with ri jin and ri on as childhood friends. that would retain the angst without any of the NASTY but oh well. at least he has no chance in hell.
it's too bad tho cuz their sibling chemistry was ADORABLE. sigh.

I know how you feel about RionxRijin. I'm praying that the writer will tie it up neatly eventually.
IMO, Rion is one curious kid (hey he's a famous mystery writer now). Maybe it all started out innocently, but things changed after he found out they're (both?)adopted and as he got too invested when researching about Rijin. He probably started seeing Rijin as a subject of his story and that's when the potential 'I like you more than a sister as a brother should' feelings appear. I don't blame him really. It's just circumstances that make it out that way.
I'm seeing his love for her as a mechanism to keep her out of harms way, and not as a third/fourth wheel to Dohyun/Segi combi. Anyway Rion is so self-aware that he berated himself for letting RijinxDohyun meet, so I'm sure he'll take a step back when the time comes no matter how emotionally torn he is.

it is weird but I think it is needed
he need to confirm his feeling too
Ri On personality is mystery and the only girl that knew his charm is Ri Jin
the only girl that find his funny side is Ri Ji
he never really have another woman as friend and he hides that he is a famous novelist
so I think he just feel protected and love her (as sibling) because she understand her best, she already seen how he is
there's always that feel arise, because they aren't blood related, but he need to confirm it also so I accept the premise (but please it wasn't a real love like man to woman...please...please....)
it wasn't an incest if they aren't related by blood but that feeling maybe because long history of acceptance and togetherness.

Actually I think all the taboo plot lines are okay as long as the writer plays them carefully without going too far and never put there for the sake of putting there. It definitely must serve its purpose e.g drugs, sucide. Not just incest should be part of the cross the line not cross the line plot lines.
I think, Ri On is indeed in dilemma with his feelings. He grow up knowing he is adopted but suppressed them because he can't break his family apart. i wouldn't root for him but I know he is a really sad character because his love will be unrequited. Judging from the mistake poem he made, he must have realise his sister is falling in love with Do Hyun.

If you watched Pinocchio, that could be even more gross because the OTP had uncle-niece relationship. I didn't mind Rion's crush because I totally get that he is in close proximity with Rijin for years, knowing she isn't his real sister and come to love her more than a family. But I don't want him as second lead or anywhere near that because Rijin didn't have the same feeling for him and she is clueless to their non-existent sibling relationship. Plus I think Segi is enough as a contender for Rijin's heart.

For some reason, I think the "Grandfather" abused the kids. Or he might have abused ORJ, or the "Mother" (The real Wife that died) did; And it looks like Cha Do Hyun's "Father" that is in a coma must have been a bit on the "slow side" as in I think he had a bit of Down Syndrome or is not exactly normal, and that is why the Father gave the CEO position to the "Mother" (Real Wife).
That is why Shin Se Ge gave that sinister look to the Grandfather since he was the abuser.
I think the "Father" is the real father of CDH, otherwise the mistress wouldn't have hold on for so long at the Cha household. I am sure the Cha Family already did a DNA test on him to make sure he was a Cha before making the lawfully wedded wife adopt Cha Do Hyun.
Can't wait til tomorrow, more SHIN SE GI!!!!!

My theory is that the Grandfather and the daughter-in-law who died in the car crash with him were having an affair. That's why he gave her the CEO position, and that's why she was in the car with him when he died.
They ended up having a child from this affair. It could be either Ri-jin or Ri-on; my money's on Ri-jin. I don't really know how Ri-on figures into this whole thing; it doesn't seem like he was down in the basement with Ri-jin and Cha Do Hyun.
I think Cha Do Hyun is the child of the father in the coma and the woman who was his mistress. I agree with your assessment that this is what gives the mistress the pull she still has in the Cha family.
ALSO, has anyone else picked up on the fact that her last name is Shin? And that Shin Se Gi's last name is (obviously) Shin? I'm not familiar enough with Korean culture to know if this is significant, but Grandma Seo keeps going on an on about the mistress not being in the family register. If a woman has a child out of wedlock, does the child take on her last name?

That would make "ORIGIN" Cha Do Huyn's aunt and adopted half sister, which would be incest. I doubt the Major Korean TV Network would go that route.
I don't think the Grandfather and Daughter In Law was having an affair. Perhaps, the "Father" that is in a coma is not the chairman's son, but rather the Daughter in law is the Chairman's son and the 'origin' was the product?
Which would make it that they are not related, however by law they are still related since CDH is officially in the family register. which would also make sense as to why Shin Se Gi does not want to call him "grandfather."I still think the "Father" in the coma has a Mental Retardation problem. Why isn't the portrait that Grandma has of him in a suit, but rather he is in a goofy grin?

oops, I mean it would make the Daughter in Law the Chairman's real daughter and Origin is the real grandchild of the Chairman while the "Grandma' had her child (The one iin a coma" out of wedlock from another man(Family Secrets) that the Mistress is referring to?
Andrea
February 10, 2015 at 7:05 PM
Ooooo, you're so right, that would make Oh Ri-jin (eep! "ORIGIN"! That's clever!) and Cha Do Hyun related. And I definitely don't think the dram is going to let them be related.
Hmmm, well maybe Ri-on is the child of the Grandfather and the daughter-in-law, making Ri-on and Cha Do Hyun related (and setting them up for a power struggle for Seungjin Group).
Perhaps Ri-jin is just like...a local girl that they brought in to be friends with Cha Do Hyun in his Basement Of Sadness.
Eeeee, I don't know!

Sawrry, i posted my theories the comments below because I was way too excited to post them.
1. for one, were the kids switched and the one meant for privileged life grew up in a regular family?
I think it is a maybe. Ri on and Dohyun could both be chaebol. Except their identities were switched in the first place.
2. who was the one who abused Do Hyun?
Definitely Mr X. I still have my reservation whether Mr X is Grandma or Joon Pyo now. It could be Joon Pyo's split personality if he happens to be the illegitimate heir of Seungri's group.
3. what did the mother witness?
The basement incident. She knows who were involved: Grandma and Mr X. As what Segi said, there are 3 person involved. My take is Nana is sort of the innocent one that was dragged into the whole incident. But her information is limited.
4. how did that fire even start? < might be important?
and who was the one who started it…
IMO, Segi started the fire. There is always possibility that Grandma decides to burn the place down to kill both Rijin and Dohyun but what if that this is how Segi decides to save both of them from the horror of basement and Mr X? And that is when Joon Pyo comes in to save them. Do hyun was taken away first but Nana was trapped in the fire (which is why I think he assumed that Nana is dead before he meets Rijin.) and Joon Pyo in coma because he breathe in too much smoke?
5. does even Se Gi know EVERYTHING?
what does he know? and what does he assume?
if my less gross theory is correct, Segi does not know everything.
He definitely know the whole basement incident.
He must know that (or he assume) he is a illegitimate son of Seungri Group. He definitely will assume Nana is the heir (which IMO it is not true) thus lead to the basement incident. If not, he would be crazy to find the true heir now to probably destroy him.
He also knows that Nana is a single child and don't have any brother (thus able to know that Ri On is not Rijin's brother when he first met him).
and one more induction to add is: There is a certain ickyness if my prediction is correct. This means that Segi knows that Nana is his "niece" and he is in love with her. Which it actually make sense because 7-8 years old don't recognize incestuous feelings. His love is purely because he is in love with her when he is young and when he meet Nana again, (since he will appear time to time in the past 11 years) he slowly grow into a teenager and realise he shouldnt be in love with her. But it is too late for that and he knew he is still in love with her after all these years which could be a reason why he is not telling Rijin the truth since the truth would push her away from him.
(to end this, I can't help but put this Harry Potter quote: "After all these years?" "Always." HAHAH)

I wish everyone would stop talking about incest. I don´t think that´s it in this case and if you all keep talking about it YOU are perverts.
It might be that the heirs were switched. but can you SWITCH a boy and girl? you can switch a boy and a boy.
second, I feel like Se Gi saying Do Hyun wouldn´t be able to handle it means DH is the one who did something in the basement. perhaps the fire started because of him. or perhaps he left another child their and put Ri JIn in danger.
and if the legal wife had a child out of wedlock with another guy and Do Hyun is the son of the mistress.... and maybe not even Joon Pyo... then they are so not related.
stop it already it is like you all want it to be incest. would that tickle you?

I need to make myself clear *clear throat*: No, I'm not in for incesteous drama. If the drama go down that line, I will be deeply disappointed with the scriptwriter because I find it damn disgusting for Do Hyun x Rijin and ruin every single love I had for this drama.
I'm only saying that Segi assumed Rijin is his "niece". This also means that he thought she is. The form of love could be an attachment to his girl because Rijin aka Nana was the only person close to him when he was younger. He, himself, couldn't find out what is it about before he grow up again when Do Hyun turns 17 and all along he thought Nana was dead. That is why there is this episode holding hand saying that "at 10pm, it is the day I fall in love with you." (Somewhere along that line) is also means that he found out his feelings when they meet again.
But this lead to another question: why he wouldn't want to tell Rijin that she was in the basement with him? Without the assumption that she is the heir (which I really dread that she is), a child wouldn't want to just tell her the truth? Segi clearly knows that this would bring her to him if they are not related but refused to tell Rijin when he always followed Rijin's instruction. let us not forget that Segi is a immature teenager. And furthermore, Rion was telling/accused him having less right for being the son of seungri group and Segi did not chase after Rijin. It would make sense if he THINKS (I put caps to italic it) that he might be her uncle. From the reactions when he couldn't see Rijin, he was trying to find her if she disappear. He definitely will follow her. And when he saw his "mother" with Nana, he lose his cool and remind him of the basement incident and tell her part of the secret.
So yes, it is gross that Segi is in love with nana, but i never once believe that is Segi and Nana is related at all. So Im waiting for the scriptwriter to come out with a way that it can statisfy both viewers and the intensity of the drama so badly.

As for the heir switch, I think I did mention in my theories below. It could have been Min Seo and Oh Mum switch their child from the start. So Rijin is registered as Min Seo's child but actually it is Oh Mum's child and vice versa. Given their closeness, it would happen if it is a mean to bring safety to Rion since Rion is a son and he has a share of the heir rights. And Rijin and Rion is one day apart so paperwork shouldn't be a big problem. Let's not forget the twin setting in the drama.
This could lead to one of the theory I did comment in previous recap: both the uncle and nephew is in love with female lead. Lovers in Paris? And 100% zero grossness since there is no blood relation.
Or it is when Rijin switch with Do Hyun first then Do Hyun switch with Ri on. But no matter how they switch, there is no blood relation with Rijin so it is okay?
And as for the pain, I guess it could be:
1. The loss of Nana (Do Hyun don't know that Nana = Rijin)
2. He is the illegitimate son or he is the product of a affair or he now have to step up his game to fight Grandma to get what he deserved.
3. he may have something to do with the car accident. It could be both of them trying to save Do Hyun and ended up in the car accident or someone made him to cause the death of Min Seo and Grandpa. I don't think a child can handle this kind of guilt.
4. I agree with you for the fire accident. He could have been the one who almost killed Joon Pyo. I mean, if Mr X is Joon Pyo, and under extreme stress, he may have indirectly caused him in coma. E.g hit him with something. And I seriously don't think a traumatized child can cope with loss of his best friend. Or maybe nana save him first and got trapped in the fire?
5. So yes, if Do Hyun remembers the memories and then he will remember that he is Not the rightful "heir" and REALISE he have this kind of feelings for his "niece". As a viewer we already find it gross, so how about the 1st person? Sighs.
5. And lastly, yes. I hope Joon Pyo is not the right heir so that everything can fall in place nicely.
Last but not least, I must emphasize this: I never registered Do Hyun and Rijin are blood related. Yes, it is weird that I actually think that is a valid plot but I thought this drama is pushing taboo boundaries so i literally let my imagination go wild and rationalize whether it actually makes sense for the mystery to be solved. And Uncle-niece relationship and then they realise they ain't related plot line has been used before. Sighs. And also it is a big no no for dramaland, movie/book maybe they would have such incesteous plot line, but not a drama.

i doubt it'll end in any incestuous reveal (though oh ri on and ri jin is incestuous enough in my book, blood related or not)
As for Mr. X ........
I've been wondering...
If anyone has seen The Three Faces of Eve, they'll remember that [Spoiler] ultimately the personality to survive and retain the memories of all the others was not the primary one but a third and last mysterious one the others didn't know about, who turned out to be the strongest alter making the others (including the primary) disappear but retaining all their memories.
perhaps this Mr. X is going to pull the same trick, after all it is extremely unlikely he is a personality depicting the perpetrator (no victims of abuse who develop DID try to become the person who abused them, that's just doesn't make sense) so perhaps this will be the alter who'll combine the memories of do hyun and segi and yona and the rest and become the final whole person to survive - a person we don't even know yet
I think that'll be very exciting

You know, Yo-na's line "I think na-na was playing with it" was so weird. Like when Do-hyun came back from being Perry (in like ep 5?6?) he didn't know what Perry was doing there in front of the house or anything, he just came to consciousness & needed to change/get out of there.
When he changes personalities - they seem to be as surprised to be 'awake' again....so I wonder how Yo-na could say Na-na was there, like she had seen her playing with the teddy bear.... The personalities' connections are hard to grasp - and maybe it's a purposeful writing thing- to show that the walls between each personality is getting thinner....?

Don't forget how freaked out Mom was, and how she was washing off the "I'm Nana" scrawl on the basement floor.
Nana has shown up before, and she terrifies the hell outta people. It could be that DH hid behind being a girl after the trauma - maybe for a long time would he only wear girls clothes, or something.

@jomo or it could be a person that existed in the family before? or Nana is actually the first personality Do Hyun has, after he loses Rijin/think rijin is dead, and to cope with his loss, he always draw the teddy bear with Nana. The Grandma and Mum decided to keep this as a secret. It could be a reason why Grandma is not surprise if Do Hyun has mental disorder during the meetup with Secretary Ahn because he had signs before 11 years ago.

I think the personalities make assumptions just as DH does. When DH wakes up in poetry park's clothes he assumes Perry poark came before him and not SG dressed as Perry park. I think yona too makes that assumption about Nana. She sees the bear in her hands and assumes Nana came before.
The thing with the personalities is that they are not like DH who was always DH. They started fully grown with just some of DHs memories/desires. They know perfectly who made them and why.

I agree with you!
My induction of these personalities are born because of Nana aka Rijin.
1. Segi: The destructive baby. We know the lock in the basement story.
2. Ahn Yoo Sub: the suicidal 17 year old. My take is 11 years ago Dohyun was diagnosed with D.I.D which makes Dohyun a 17 years old kid (28-11 = 17). He was born because he regain his memory when he first got hit by his friend's father. And upon knowing the truth, he just want to end everything. But he decided to hide from the truth again which leads to him becoming Segi again and Yoo Sub to be created to contain his suicidal thoughts.
3. Nana: she is probably drawn from Rijin. Just take a quick reference to the epsiode where Segi gave Rijin all the presents that Nana would love which means Segi knew Rijin is Nana.
4. Ahn Yoona: 17 year crazy fan girl. This is the girl probably Do Hyun visual Nana to be after regaining his memories when he was 17. He wants her to be carefree and only think about Oppas. Reference to previous episode, Segi would have thought Nana already died from the incident and never thought he would meet her again. So, she was born on the desire Do Hyun wants Nana to live.
5. Perry Park: Uncle. I have a problem coming up with theory for him but if he is so fun I think I can link with Oh Dad. He could be the person who bringing Rijin to the family for visit considering Oh mum was close with Min Seo.
6. Mr X. I definitely think he is the kidnapper's personality.

We can saw Do-hyun knows about these personalities because he has been undergoing treatment (with the doctor) and also has his house under surveillance & recording.
Do we also know that Perry and Yo-na and Yo-sub all monitor the cameras too? (I think Se-gi might actually, he did leave a video message to Do-hyun afterall).
So I was just unclear as to how the personalities know each other----and ESPECIALLY because in Yo-sub's drawings, he did not know about or draw #7 - Mr. X./

Nice walk through Se Gi's mind, Saya. Since Se Gi carries the dark hidden parts of Do Hyun, and since Ri Jin is back in his life to trigger that dark past, I can see why he would push Do Hyun up against the wall to face those memories. Si Gi wants a relationship with Ri Jin that isn't just a crash and burn situation when their basement story is revealed. Se Gi realizes that Do Hyun's relationship with her ecludes that dark part. So, I wonder if the biggest crisis would be if Ri Jin remembers the forgotten basement story while she is present with Do Hyun, and not Se Gi.

I dont know yet what Ri On goals is or what his plans. I think he knows about their (cdh, rijin, rion) childhood connections, thats why he over protective with Rijin. With or without his love feelings, he will always be protective when it comes to Rijin with CDH.

Ri-on explained it best as secret identities. Like he has identities to hide too: the secret writer vs lazy neighborhood oppa (always hanging out, not working, being at home/in neighborhood) vs actual person he is.
So it's understandable to him that some chaebol-heir would want to prince-&-pauper an identity for freedom.....
Only when Ri-jin's comment about 'it not being voluntary like Ri-on, but coming & going without control' worries him enough to come pull her awya...

Hi Miss Saya, Thank you for your recap! Is always interesting reading your point of view.
I agree with your assesmet of Se Gi's turmoil about his own existence and his frustration when it comes to Do Hyun "cowardice", even if I don't agree with Hwang Jung-eum overdoing her performance. I thought she was really extreme in the beginning (The screams!) but I've come to think now that that's the way the PD and writer want her to be.
I hope they keep the story as interesting as it's been,in my opinion most Korean dramas have a tendency to begin well and then... well, let's hope they keep it up.
P.s.: I think Se Gi's red car is the newly shipped Ford Mustang GT 2015.

@lynn, I agree with your assessment of Hwang Jung-eum. I don't think she's overdoing her performance either. In fact, I'm *loving* the fact that she's still just as much a part of this drama as when it started.
I find that dramas tend to start out strong where the heroine is concerned and then, after we've established how cool/lovable/great she is, we see less and less of her. By the end of the drama, often the heroine is trotted out only when we need a reason for the hero's actions. The fact that Ri-jin is just as capable, just as professional, and just as involved in the drama in Episode 10 as she was in Episode 1 makes me so happy.
And you know what? Her over-the-top personality has never seemed too much to me. I think the way she has chosen/the writer wanted this character to be played is as a chatterbox, expressive, highly professional character. I love that all those facets exist in her character, and it's one of the things that makes her seem like an actual, fleshed-out person to me.

Yeah, I don't think she's over the top at all, only fun-crazy, but after the first two episodes I learned to unplug my earphones when she screamed (LOL).
She's the perfect complement for Do Hyun's seriousness/ reserved attitude. She shakes him up. I believe that if her character was more the "serious or reserved" type none of the personalities would've clicked with her, She's the only one who can fearlessly accept all of Do Hyun's 7 personalities, and I think in a subconscious level Do hyun is aware of it. Ever wonder how come ALL the personalities (Except for Se Gi and unknown Mr. X) came out the same day???

And if you watch the BTS, the director is telling her EXACTLY how he wants her to be in each scene. So I am guessing all this behavior has to add up to something significant.
Personally, I like RJ best when she is calm and in control. Maybe he is setting us up with the loudness to contrast to her best moments with CDH. God, I loved her when she during that "All become one cool person" speech before the kiss.

I also love her when she's calm and in control, but I equally love those moments when she's spazz-tastic. Like when we see her go home for the first time, and she and her mom freak out from happiness. Or when Shin Se-gi says his "10 PM, that's when I fell for you" line and she busts a gut laughing (because srsly? If some random dude said that to you after you'd thrown him to the ground, what would *you* do?). Or when she's so mad at Ri-on that she legitimately comes across as a mental patient.
I just like that she's 100% capable of being calm and no-nonsense, but that her natural personality seems to tend toward bubbly and out-there. I think it's a realistic enough dynamic, and I like that this actress plays the spastic side without making me lose respect for the character.

Ooh! Plot guessing time!
I think...Do-hyun is the son of the Chairman/grandpa. That's why grandma wants her son to wake up from coma (and be the heir/make a new will), otherwise, it'll go to the second son, Do-hyun! Do-hyun's mom is a low-class woman who was married to Do-hyun's dad (the guy in the coma) but she either didn't have a child or is Ri-jin's mom.
She 'adopted' Do-hyun (maybe not filed legally, but effectively in essence) so she's covering the secret for this group. After the years of no one being on her side in the family/company except for Do-hyun, she's firmly on Do-hyun's side for him to inherit the money because he will take care of her - it's just his sweet nature to do so. Otherwise, the grandma, the Ki-joon family all hate her for being 'low class' and a 'hanger on' and also someone who holds a threat to the family.
I dunno what that makes the loveline b/w Do-hyun and Ri-jin. But I wanted to make some sense of the makjang storyline XD.

If DH is grandpa's son and RJ is Joon Pyo's daughter, that makes DH and RJ an uncle-niece. I think their age will be too close for that, yet I can't say that's impossible. And I also think that the mother is way too protective to DH, and she must know that she has daughter. And it seems that the mother didn't know SY's child is with Oh family. Yay! Thanks for the recap :D
Am I the only one who's terrified every time Do Hyun's alters come out? I do love them so much (and I've love to be friends with all of them) but I'm soooo scared about what they'll do while since they carry around Do Hyun's body.
As much as I love Segi, I was terrified of him being present this whole episode and punishing Do Hyun.

They may have been created to protect Do-hyun....but I kind of thought they don't care about __him__
We clearly saw Se-gi on the warpath to ruin Do-hyun's image/reputation? and Yo-na is too frivolous to care about anything other than idol-oppas....

After reading the recap and the comments , i'm a little bit confused. When i watched the episode i thought they hinted to the fact that do hyun is the son of the dead chairman . So subsequently the comatose father is actually his brother . Since no one notice it , i'll blame the English subtitles then . too bad i was all excited by myself thinking there is another twist :(

Do Hyun was registered as the son of the chairman. So while Cha Joon Pyo might be his "real" father, he is "legally/technically" the chairman's son...is what I understand.

I want to know the abuse aspect part as well, because I don't understand what happened to him and I really really really want to find out. I think this writer does a great job making us wait and cringe wanting to know what'll happen next. The acting of course is AMAZING but it's the story plot that has us on the edge of our seats. So congrats production team for that one. I really just want to know what happened this poor boy that caused him to protect himself to such a degree. <3 <3 <3 Thanks for the Recap

WONDERLAND VERSION:
It starts with the red prince of hearts (SSG) declaring a war against the white prince (DH).
He starts off his revenge by visiting the foxy flamingo(CY), the one he thinks the white prince
loves and makes a conversation with her. He then leaves her home and here we can see that
she's disconcerted. The red prince immediately goes to work back at the palace,
only to be angered by the Dormouse/tuna-lover (CKJ).
With the prince's blow by blow lines, the Dormouse
is left abashed. After that, our prince suddenly realises that Alice (RJ) is nowhere to be found. He then
asked the catterpillar (Sec Ahn) about her location.
Meanwhile, on the other side of wonderland, Alice and the March Heiress (SHR) is having a tea party.
Alice asks the March Heiress about the memory potion of the white prince but then the red prince
suddenly appears and grabs Alice and takes her back to the castle.
Just after coming back, the Cheshire Cat (RO) appears and insists Alice that she should go
back home now. The red prince tries to stop the Cheshire Cat but then
it says that Alice doesn't belong there because this is
not her world and with that, Alice and the Cheshire cat dissapeared into the thin air.
Angered by this, our prince looks for the Queen of Hearts (Grandma) and confronts her. He doesn't stop yet and rides with his horse to the dark forest. At its deepest part, he sees the sleeping dragon (CJP).
He immediately draws his sword, aims at it's throat and......
P.S. After all that happened,no one still knows the identity and whreabouts of the one that
started it all...the White Rabbit

In the mirror scene near the end, Se-gi’s battle of hope and despair against Do-hyun is stark and powerful. He wants him to come out and fight his fight, he dares him. Mixed in with the anger, there’s a thread of hope, but it’s overpowered by precedent. Do-hyun has never stayed to fight. But you get the feeling that if only he would, Se-gi would be his first cheerleader, even when it comes at the risk of his own existence. What he can’t bear is (what he considers) Do-hyun’s weakness.
+100 Se Gi was daring Do Hyun to wake up and prevent him from doing what he is about to do .. in a way i understand Se Gi frustration with Do Hyun weakness. Do Hyun is obeing his grandman orders even though she played a part in making him what he is now , he really have to snap out of it ..
I was brought to tears when Se Gi said that if Do hyun recall his past and deal with it , they'll die .. i've to give it to JiSung, really i feel like each one of Do Hyun personalities is a person who exist on its own! I'll never get over JiSung acting ! Never !!
Se Gi is scary cute xD that rap part of don't touch me and his facial expressing when Ri Jin held him before that , he's so engrossed with her, his walls crumpl down near her and i'm loving every bit of it !
JiSung thank you really thank you ! every episode the acting performance is blowing me away ! ( Never watched one of his work before , i had some kind of allergic reaction to him , now i'm watching every thing i can get my hand on with him ..)

Thank you for the recap!! I love your descriptions of the actions and your insights on what the heck everyone is thinking.
I had a different take on the sofa/blanket/CDH scene.
It was CDH appearing in RJ's dream to tell her thanks for all her help up to this point. He had to sneak in before he "left" to say good-bye. When she woke up, the blanket wasn't there. She had imagined it.
I think she will recall this later when it is time for her to get CDH back from the beyond where he is either hiding or gathering strength.
While a few people are guessing that the abuse actually happened to RJ, and part of DH's guilt is that he didn't prevent it, I don't think that is true. SG is truly angry at the witness - does that mean he was the witness along with his mother? He can't forgive himself?
And what ACTUALLY is RO accusing CDH with by being a son of the SJ group? Were they known abusers, or just jerks? RO seemed surprised that DH had been shattered by being a part of that family, so he couldn't have know about the abuse. Maybe the fact that RJ was cast off simply because she was a DAUGHTER, not a son?
Don't forget the fact that way at the beginning SG told RJ that "she called him out a long time ago."
My theory is:
Little RJ witnessed some sort of abuse. She found the crumpled little CDH unable to function in a fetal position, and with her strong lungs and will, literally called CDH to come out and fight. The person who listened to her was little SG, who fought his way to the surface, picked up the broken pieces of CDH's life and lived for him for a while.
She will repeat this action soon, only this time, when she calls, CDH will reappear, and finally face the horror of the memories. They may remember together. It's gonna be awesome, and terrifying and we will all cry.
I hope it isn't that little RJ is the one who is abused, and pitifully, she calls for help, and that while little DH is unable to respond, SG is the one who comes in and "resuces" her. It is nice to have little SG be a hero, but I am all for girl power.

Wonderful theory. I also don't want it to be RJ who was abused. And I don't think it was. Young DH asks her to stay. That means she had the freedom to leave the basement and he didn't. So it points to DH being the abused and RJ the saviour.

Or it could be RJ sneaked into the basement to play with Dohyun but was found out by Mr X? We don't get to see Dohyun was injured/scars when he was in the basement so we could only conclude that he was only kept in the basement. Mr X got so angry when he found out and used violence to both of them and Segi was called out to save RJ.
I hate the abuse part of the story. It completely gross me out. But I like the idea of Segi being the protector. Big baby he is but he has a warmth heart despite he is born out of pain.

Awesome x4. I can't really see Ri Jin being the abused. Regardless of lost memories and difference in environments, people who suffered from constant abuse will probably show a negative reaction to similar situations.
So far, RJ has yet to show even a fraction of Do Hyun's fear and anxiety when basements and hints of child abuse are mentioned. She simply pointed out that she was scared of basements and fire and dislike rough/brusque men.

I am sooooo addicted and inlove with this drama, it's not funny :)
I just love every minute of CDH and RJ together!!!
I am confused also about the story behind the abuse and how they are all connected. I thought CDH might not be a Seungjin family because of what Ri On said to him, "you have less of a right as well, being the son of Seungjin Group". That made SSG go to Grandma and demand that she give the company to him. From there we hear from SSG that his father, was the reason why he became a monster? I hope I got that right.
for me, the definites are:
Ri On has feelings for Ri Jin as pointed out by SSG
Ri Jin is with CDH in the basement because SSG cannot answer her when she asked him about it.
I thought that Ri On might be the true grandson of Seungjin Group because when their parents where talking about the mom taking Min Seo's child, Ri On was listening to them and he has that hurt look in his eyes or maybe that's just me.
Bring on Episode 11!!!

My theory always stands that Do Hyun is the illegitimate son. Ri on should be the true heir. But about the The child in the Basement theory, well..
There is no contest that Dohyun-Segi and Rijin is both in the basement but why Segi doesn't want to tell Rijin about could be because he is also afraid that he is Rijin's uncle and they can never be together.
Let's go back to why Rijin is in the basement.
Min Yeon's child adopted with the Oh Family. When the kidnapper took Rijin, instead of Ri on, and locked her together with Dohyun, the 3 persons: Penetrator, mum (witness) and victim (Segi) knew the "truth". So it would explin why mum is afraid that Rijin (aka Nana) is back to take away the heir rights and Segi definitely have less right than her if she is the legitimate one.
So when she came back from the incident, she forgot her memories and thus she never questioned why Ri on is her twin brother because she assumed Ri on is when he asked her to call her oppa. This is the loophole in the memories that Ri On had when he is young (Reference to ep 8 or 7) when Oh mum was telling them they are brother and sister now but it only shown drawings for Ri Jin mentioning about her family when she is young and vulnerable.
But my theory is since Uncle and Niece is a big no no for k drama land and if they are related by blood, my speculations are:
1. Ri on is the son of Jun Pyo. He might be wondering who took his place and why he is in Oh Family.
2. Rijin, Rion and Dohyun's identities were switched from the start.
- Rijin (child of Oh family)
- Rion (child of Jun Pyo)
- Dohyun (Child of the Grandpa)
Dohyun and Rion were switched first. If Dohyun is the product of Grandpa and Min Yeon, they should kept him as a secret but why they keep him so close to Grandma? I think the reason is because we can be sure that Jun Pyo and Mum did have a child together. Whether it is blood related or not, we shall leave the debate to next round. But it could be same strategy why Do Hyun kept Rijin in his office, to put her in the most dangerous place and see her everyday. So Everyone thought Do Hyun is Jun Pyo's child and Rion was adopted by the Oh family since he was a baby. Rijin (was named as Nana then) was thought to be the illegitimate daughter of Min Yeon and was kept as a playmate for Dohyun.
So when the truth exposed to grandma, Grandma probably couldn't take the truth and planned for the car accident.
And this is how Dohyun couldn't take the pain at all because :
1. He is in love with his "niece"
2. All the abusement should be directed to him but Rijin received such treatment all these while. Good natured Dohyun felt sorry for her that is too much that he could not protect her.
Required fields are marked *
Beebeeshing
February 10, 2015 at 7:01 PM
To add on: what I mean by truth is:
Mr X, mum and Dohyun thought that Rijin is Min Seo's child.
Grandma knew Dohyun is not Jun Pyo's child (we can be sure because of the cold treatment) but also, she knew Rijin isn't Min Seo Child too.
My theory to why she is afraid that words will spread is because:
1. She wants to keep the President position for Jun Pyo. But now he is in coma so she still need the illegitimate child to take a presence in the company.
2. Actually Jun Pyo is not the son of Grandpa at all but he thought he is.
This is when my less gross theory kicks in:
1. Actually Min Seo is the illegitimate daughter of grandpa. So she married his "son" will rightfully take a position in the company. So her son aka Do Hyun will be the rightful heir of the company too.
2. Actually Jun Pyo is a product of someone and Grandma. Be it affair or not, he is not the rightful heir. So grandma allowed the marriage to strengthen his position in the company and that is also the reason why Do Hyun must keep his position. So when she REALISE Do Hyun is the child that was born outside the marriage, it threatens Jun Pyo.
So the above theory would conclude that three of them are not blood related to each other so there is actually no incesteous possibility in any love line.
(Spent 30 mins to finish LOL)

hahah! i know right! it's hard to contain ourselves in this story!!
hmm.. it could be a birth secret that only Grandma, Grandpa and Minseo knows.
Since Rijin and Rion are "twins" --> Same age
They could be switched when they were born. Min Seo could switch her child with her friend's since her friend's is a daughter which apparently less threatening in heir status. It could also explain why Rijin and Do Hyun can meet when they were young because the Oh Family thought that Min Seo would want to meet her "daughter" but not Rion?
Or, it's just Rion pretending to be like the Oh Family so that noone can ever suspect since he know he is adopted? It's abit like the identity theory he bought up. He is acting to be Rion when he is in the family but deep down he know he isn't?
I think the Oh Family + Rion + Grandma could have found out about their birth secrets in the hospital after the fire incident.

It could lead to another possibility that Rijin and Rion are adopted. Hahah. Omg. The circle is getting bigger.
It could be Rion acting to be not smart. You see, he is a mystery novelist. I can't say all novelist must have the brains of bill gates but he must be smart enough to come out with so many plot lines and keep his reaearch about Do Hyun under the blanket for years. Maybe he also want to feel belong to the family by acting to be like one? I don't know.
But I'm still sticking with my theory first before I watch the next episode. Every episode will slightly alter my theory because they are closer to truth.

I don't disagree that Ri-on is smart - but his stories are not new/innovative. They are just his own research wrapped up in a fictitious covering. I mean, writers should research what they write & and all that, but he's not research to write a story, but searching out a story/history/what already happened and is changing names or whatnot to publish books. That's not too creative of a writer.
Though I guess that's an age-old debate, is anything really new and must 'art' be 'original' to be considered as good/genius/worthwhile....

Or my another crazy theory is Mr X is Cha Jun Pyo when he also have split personality. HAHHA. We can handle 7 personalities, so why not two for him. Family genes can be a crazy thing since he might not be able to handle the pain too. Just imagine the child you have been treating like your own son for 7 years and suddenly, he is your half brother and he is a product of your father and your legally married wife. I think it is enough to drive someone to insanity.

SE GI, WHUUTT R U DOING TO MEEE?!!! would it be dangerous if I wish to have stylish Se Gi for myself? O__o
what made me laugh this ep. was Se Gi's "maaanjijiMAAAA!" everytime Ri jin touched him... it reminded me of Dok ko jins over the top antics and it made me lol so much because it looked like he meant the contrary when Ri Jin hugged him and he had his eyes closed xD hes being all serious with his deep voice but then comes up with those childish "notes" and wheelchair stunts and one can just laugh at how immature he is even when he thinks hes a grown up which is why I agree with Chief Ahn's responsability mini-rant.
Onto the mystery: I'm still not getting this whole heir mystery of who is who's kid but I think Ri On's the "eldest son" of that daughter in law that died because if its Ri Jin, wouldnt she be Do hyun's cousin or something?!! then again, whut was she doing in that basement if she wasnt part of that family? Was she the daughter of someone working for them? Maybe she always sneaked to play with him or they locked her there too cuz she saw something?

If it is the switching theory: It is like 3 cards that are reshuffled. For clarity sake, I use Segi (Jisung) instead of Do Hyun.
If Min Seo is the illegetitmate daughter of Grandpa and Segi is the her son that was This makes Joon Pyo and Jisung half cousin. He was kept as a secret. Joon Pyo is not Grandpa's son.
Min Seo and Joon Pyo get married. Now Joon Pyo has a son, Segi.
Joon Pyo and DH'a Mum have a child name "Do Hyun". Min Seo is afraid of Grandma's power and what she can do to Segi, she / grandpa switch "Do Hyun" with Segi and tell her best friend that she need to protect her son from Cha's family so she switch it again with Nana. Nana was now known as Min Seo's child which also a reason why she can visit Cha family house with freedom.
But then Grandma and Mr X eventually find out about Segi isn't "Do Hyun" and lock him up to get the real "Do Hyun". Probably threatens Grandpa and Min Seo (to be honest, she may think that min Seo and grandpa is having an affair at first). And use Nana as the best card to play to get "Do Hyun" back. This probably could explain why Dh's Mum is the witness because she didnt know that Segi is not her son but she is powerless and allow Nana to play with him. But Mr X realise Nana can't get back "Do Hyun" so Mr X decided wants his revenge on the Cha Family by causing the car accident and to Nana since Mr X thinks Nana is Min Seo's child. so segi that really turn into Segi* decided to set a fire or accidentally set a fire or by almost murdering Mr X to save Nana. Which leads to the fire accident.
so Nana disappeared and was thought that she died in the fire. But she was saved by Oh Family and now renamed as Ri Jin. It is possible that Oh Mum is around the corner during the fire because she know Nana is her child or her best friend's child.
"Do Hyun" is always Rion. Plot twist for him is probably he always thought that Rijin is her sister and then he realise he is adopted one in the hospital.
And grandma realise Segi is indeed Min Seo's child and thought that Her son actually "saved" him and now in coma. So the presence of Segi will threaten Joon Pyo. So grandma told Segi the "truth" that he is the not Joon Pyo's son and Nana is. And he is a product of an affair. Unable to take the truth, he turn back to Do Hyun.
Can see?

I personally like this theory best because it is all role switching in the beginning and Grandma just lies to get her son secured in Seungri and protect him from Ki Joon's father. This is also why I was betting Do Hyun is the illegitimate child Min Seo has and Ri on is the true heir because Ri on is never related to Grandpa if Joon Pyo is not his son. And it is less weird for your daughter in law to fall in love with Father in law rather it is actually after protecting his daughter. And so it also conclude why I always think that Mr X is joon pyo becuase he is not Grandpa's son and his world will crash when Do Hyun is the rightful heir of the Seungri group.

Never mind about my grammar error and mistakes but it was never my intention to talk about incesteous plot line. All along that is what going on in my head for the greatest mystery to be solved which is also the beginning of the Kmhl. But I got misunderstood so I will explain the whole switching theory and only A crazy grandma that stop the OTP to be together.

Ostensibly, Se-gi went to the office to 'ruin Do-hyun'...but he did an awesome job - capturing the hearts of all the employees, suaving it up with all the workers, dutifully attending the meeting (that Do-hyun had to sit in - he could have been absent & not attend ), and defending Do-hyun's work/job from the bullying. He even won over Ki-joon's assistant ("wow he's so cool")!
Such a cute side to Se-gi -! I feel like all the personalities are gelling more - esp Se-gi's high-school-girl-esque heart doodles and Do-hyun being more emotional/aggressive and Yo-sub caring more/not wanting to die....... heheheheeeee

I am so impressed with all the different theories presented!
But what I don't get is, why would some of you think that RJ could not be part of Seungjin Group / cast aside coz she's born a girl? Isn't the grandma (a lady at that) holding an important position in the company? Am I missing something?

Actually I thought of Rijin being the true heir at first. But it will leads to more questions than answer.
1. Who are Ri On real parents? The Oh family or the Cha family. Either way it is even more gross because he is already carrying a non platonic feelings for his sister already.
2. Who are Do Hyun's real parents? If it's the Oh family, it would be a huge yes for me. But why must grandma dislike him so much? And Segi also appear to dislike her too. If he is just adopted, there is no need for a basement incident to happened. Unless whatever happened in the basement is Rijin and Do Hyun thinks that he is the one abused. He supposed to be the boy who had freedom to enter the basement.
3. No one question the Do Hyun's identity. I mean if the true heir is a girl, there is no need for Ri On to be a male too. of course, if the heir is Rijin, what is the purpose of Ri On (which we could assume him to be Min Seo's son for now).
4. If Rijin is the heir, it will lead to more taboos relationship. And this also means that Rijin x Do Hyun is not the OTP in the show. But of course, if the writer decided to unfold the mystery in the way that Rijin and Do Hyun is not related, it may really make those who supported Ri on feel weird for themselves because he is now carrying non platonic feelings for his niece since young. And if she is the true heir, wouldn't him wants to stop researching and tell his family that he is in love with her without getting her involved in the cha family?

My take on the relationships from @Beebeeshing questions and still continues to be my own prediction is:
1&3. Ri On may not have any relationship with neither the Oh family nor the Cha family but rather an orphan that was adopted by the Oh family and later when the family took in RiJin, he became curious about this new little sister's fears and past. Therefore, his curiosity which later turned into protectiveness and love became his motivation to dig into the 'origin' of her fear. Leading to the history of SeungJin Group and how RiJin might be related to it.
2. DoHyun may actually not be related to SeungJin group at all but rather just a maid/mistress (current mother's) son whom worked under SeungJin Group. My theory is that SeungJin group is very high standards and couldn't accept the fact that the only heir they have is a girl and therefore kept her hidden until they took in DoHyun, claiming to be their grandson/son of the group. Due to DoHyun not being blood-related but merely a replacement, he was abused as a child and had a past with RiJin in which only SeGi can remember.
4. If my theory is correct and in fact that DoHyun has no actual blood-relation to SeungJin group whereas RiJin does, then there is no taboo relationship involved but just hints of it caused by the current script to keep us confused and thinking. Remember how furious SeGi was with the fact that RiJin and DoHyun's mother met? It leads me to think that the actual abuse and involvement of the mother was that she helped bring up the fact of having DoHyun replace RiJin as the heir which caused the traumatic experiences later on.
I believe that the dark secret of the SeungJin group is the fact that the hidden heir was actually a girl (RJ) but used DoHyun as her replacement because you know rich people and Asians, can't accept the fact that there's no son to carry on the family name. I think the reason why the Grandma hopes to have her son wake up is so that he can go have another child hoping it'd be a son and kick DoHyun out.

I liked your response. It is really very well thought out.
For 1&3, I think it is the best case scenario. It also explain why must Rion decide to create a coincidence for the 1st meeting in order to dug out more information.

SawRry, my comment got cut out.
For 4, I agree with you too.
But for 2, I agree with you but why would Do Hyun be abused if he have no relation with Seungri group. If he is just a replacement, Rijin should be abused instead of him. He shouldn't be locked in the basement since he became the "rightful heir". :/

But I do like your predictions because it could turn out when only one of them is actually related which it would be awesome.

I like your theory! It was one of those thoughts that I had after watching last week's episode. I'll feel bad for RiOn for being left out of the Cha family tree, but it'll tie up the loose ends. It'll be good if Dohyun isn't blood/family tree related so the adorable love moments palatable for the general audience.
Cha Grandma did acknowledge that CDH came from her son. I'm assuming the family would be smart enough to verify through DNA test before officially registering him in the family register, unless there's another switch up of the DNA results with *gasp* the actual child i.e. Rion. This would explain why Cha Grandma uses CDH (the son of the opportunist lady) as a placeholder. She hates the person who's in her grandchild's place (I'm assuming Cha Jun Pyo has another child with a woman who's not Min Yeon when Min Yeon went away. She came back with a child with idk her old flame who is not Cha Grandpa as it'll be gross..man this is messed up but would explain why Rion&Rijin are "twins") but is waiting for her son to wake-up and restore her preferred "heir". This would explain the need to keep Min Yeon's child (Rijin/real Nana?) hidden because she'll take precedence in inheritance for being Min Yeon's child over Cha Grandma's preferred heir. And now we'll ask ourselves how did Rion end up in the Oh family? Annnddd we're back to square 1.
What about the car accident? Maybe it's Ki Joon's dad's way of getting more power by killing the 2 most powerful people in Seungjin. Fire? Maybe it's Cha Uncle(Ki Joon's dad)'s way of securing power for himself by killing Junpyo. I'm assuming Cha Uncle is not in the know of the messy relations when he set out with his plans. He just wants to reclaim the power taken away by his dad for being second-born, something he's been preparing for a long time.
Now I just hope they'll tell us more about the "abuse". Was it the mental torture of being locked up and made to live like invisible children whose pleas were being ignored? And when they show even the littlest presence they were physically abused as punishment? Would this be enough reason to break CDH?
Are we misunderstanding the flashback scene where kid CDH got thrown back as the actual abuse? Maybe he was repeatedly trying to cling on someone to leave the room but the perpetrator kept pushing him back to keep him in the room, further breaking CDH into pieces with the rejection. Segi then appears to take in the fact that he'll never leave the place, with Rijin/real Nana as his companion.

I like your questions!
1. That's also the reason how I came up with the switching theory and less gross theory. We really go back to square one if we dont find a reason why Grandma hates DH so much? Sure DH maybe a cause of Mr X's coma but I don't see a reason why she can baby her son so much but hate her grandson. It is bizarre in multiple levels. Plus Do Hyun and Nana must not have uncle-niece or any blood related relationship (I DONT WANT! I WANT MY OTP) so I could only deduced that Joon Pyo and Do Hyun must not be related and my theory worked on the basis that Do Hyun must be Min Seo's son.
2. Yes, I thought of it also. They can have a major plot twist with Ki joon's father! It's gonna be exciting!
3. I think there is a contest whether Do Hyun is long term/ short term (1 year) imprisonment. But I think it must be enough to break Do Hyun apart and the trigger point is definitely Nana (because "you called me long time ago" *batman's voice*). My take is short term because Do Hyun don't have a recollection of himself being imprisoned and when he does he always turn into Segi.
But but! I remember someone did mention that it could have been nana instead of Do Hyun. So, your theory about misunderstanding could be true and it maybe even closer to the truth!

Thanks Saya for your recap ^^ I enjoy reading your analysis of how Se Gi wants Do Hyun to stay and fight, and how Se Gi is being emotionally tough in order to deal with Do Hyun's pain, but not being emotionally mature.
Given their expertise in mental disorders, perhaps Ri Jin and Dr. Seok should have suspected childhood abuse earlier. But I guess the key to healing still depends on whether Do Hyun can recover his lost memory and whether he is strong enough to deal with the pain.
I am so invested to see Do Hyun come back as a stronger person =) Ri Jin's speech about putting all the pieces together making the puzzle one beautiful picture is really touching T-T Hope to see the reconciliation between Se Gi and Do Hyun very soon ^^

If Ri Jin is the missing child while Do Hyun is Joon Pyo's child, then they have no blood relations. Ri Jin is the child of Seo Yeon and who-knows-who, while Do Hyun is the son of Joon Pyo and the mistress. They have different father and mother.

That is UNLESS the who-knows-who is actually the father-in-law aka the Cha Geon Ho (the grandfather/Joon Pyo's father). It's still debatable tho because there are possibilities that Joon Pyo's not even the son of Geon Ho.
