Healer: Episode 18

Strap yourselves in, folks, it’s a roller coaster of an episode, running the entire emotional gamut—there’s plenty of cuteness and laughs, but with only one more week left, we can’t rest too assured in momentary comforts. We’re never far from the undercurrent of unease that runs throughout, reminding us that there’s just enough time for one more big fight. And that’s sure to be a doozy.

EPISODE 18 RECAP

Backing up a bit, we see how the tape made its way to Moon-ho’s broadcast, rather than into the Elder’s hand. Aha, so it was Dae-yong who got to the charnel vault first, and she finds a box tucked in the back containing the real tape. She swaps it for a decoy, then takes it to Moon-ho directly.

Moon-ho listens right away, then calls Jung-hoo to inform him of its contents. As they’d known, Seo Joon-seok wasn’t guilty, but moreover, he wasn’t even initially a suspect. He’d gone to the police to report Gil-han’s murder, with photos as proof. Thus the tape isn’t a suspect statement but a witness statement.

Jung-hoo has to pull over the car to process the good news, and he and Young-shin smile at each other.

Moon-ho thinks the tape is enough to take to broadcast, and tells Jung-hoo to come back. Jung-hoo asks Young-shin what she thinks, and she’s of the same mind as him: They’ll see through the original plan.

So now we resume with Jung-hoo capturing the Elder’s face on camera for all the nation to see. A bodyguard blocks the Elder from view, but Jung-hoo jumps into reporter mode (with some of Bong-soo’s demeanor) and starts asking a question. It goes ignored as the Elder leaves the room.

Jung-hoo has a few seconds of broadcast time before the guards close in on him, and calls out, “These people must work for the Elder! I’ll ask you a question! Surely you wouldn’t use violence and beat the reporter who came to interview the Elder during a live broadcast?”

His glasses and wallet are confiscated, and then the Elder returns to the room. Upon confirmation that this guy is a reporter named Park Bong-soo, he asks, “Didn’t you say you were the Healer?”

Jung-hoo laugh-stutters, “I-if I said that, ha ha, I was told you’d meet with me.” Gah, I am so glad Bong-soo is not real, because he would not be long for this world. The Elder says he’d talk if Bong-soo were the Healer, but if not… Jung-hoo guesses, “You’d k-kill me? But I don’t wanna die.”

He asks if “Grandpa” really is the Elder, and the Elder replies that he didn’t need to broadcast his face in order to ask that. But Jung-hoo counters that Gramps kills people who bother him, and he couldn’t have that—this is their way of posting a “Beware of dog” type warning sign.

The Elder crouches to meet Jung-hoo’s eye level and calls him child, asking who he is. Jung-hoo replies that there’s a man named Seo Joon-seok among the people Grandpa’s killed: “I am his son, Seo Jung-hoo. Grandpa, when you kill people in the future, you ought to think of their sons or daughters.”

Outside the house, Young-shin waits impatiently with a camera, trying to urge the police officers with her to intervene. But the police can’t do anything without proper authorization, so Young-shin just starts filming right there. There’s not much to see, but it’s enough to show police officers stationed outside the Elder’s house, and Moon-ho turns over the broadcast to show the scene. Within moments of it airing, the guards restraining Jung-hoo inside back off.

The Elder invites Jung-hoo to sit, offering Jung-hoo a drink that gets refused, and lighting an incense stick like this is some kind of polite visit. Jung-hoo has dropped the wimpy act and faces the old man defiantly, sneering at the Elder’s description of his side as “working to save people.”

The Elder explains that there’s the “us” who protect people, and the “them” who receive their protection: “Young man, which side do you want to be on?”

Jung-hoo is unimpressed with the Elder’s talk, but… wait, why are you fading and your senses dulling? Gah, it’s the incense, isn’t it? The Elder starts to blur in his eyes as the old man says he quite likes Jung-hoo but won’t wait long for his decision.

Jung-hoo tries to clear his head through the smoke, and then sees the stick and puts it out. Oh thank goodness. But the drugs have done their trick and he falls over, unconscious. The Elder leaves him in slumped in the room.

Back to Seo Joon-seok’s witness statement, which we see in flashback. Joon-seok sits dully in front of the detectives, emotionally traumatized from Gil-han’s death, and explains that “they” call themselves Farmers. As a trio, he and Gil-han and Moon-shik had been chasing the story for the past year when they received information about a planned truck shipment, which they took to mean slush fund movement.

Joon-seok describes the “farming” that this group does: They view the country as their field for the plowing, sowing money around to reap all sorts of benefits—political, legal, financial.

Young-shin finally gets tired of waiting and bursts onto the Elder’s property. She finds Jung-hoo starting to stir, trying to shake off his drug-induced stupor. She asks worriedly, “Why are you always sleeping when I see you?” He replies, “You always wake me.” Pause to aww.

She offers to take him to the hospital, but he asks to sleep a bit, resting against her shoulder and holding her arm. He asks, “Our fathers were very close, weren’t they?” Since he didn’t get to see the broadcast, Young-shin says that their fathers were loyal to the end, and recounts the events that we see in flashback.

1992. Moon-shik drives the car as the three friends follow the truck in question, and the mood is lighthearted with bickering and laughs. They think the task will be a simple matter of snapping a few photos showing the money handoff.

Upon arrival, it becomes evident that the situation is more serious than they’d anticipated. One truck contains large metal paint canisters, and another is filled with apple boxes containing massive sums of cash.

Gil-han wants to see inside the paint canisters, while Joon-seok holds him back. Gil-han just quips, “What are they going to do, kill me? A reporter?” But they accidentally knock over a bin that alerts the others to their presence, and Gil-han offers to divert them while Joon-seok gets to the paint cans. Before his friend can protest, he runs off and is quickly followed.

Joon-seok grabs a canister and runs back to the car, where he alerts Moon-shik to the danger. He tells Moon-shik to prepare for getaway, then heads back to get his friend.

When Joon-seok makes it back, Gil-han is already prone on the ground, his head bloody. Moon-shik arrives just in time to grab him back from going after the Farmer guys, but Joon-seok wells up in righteous fury. He starts snapping photos openly, and Moon-shik forcibly drags him back to the car.

The car escapes, and Joon-seok explains in his statement that he was on the run for days, and eventually found out what was in the paint cans. He explains that it was chemicals used in construction projects to weaken steel, and as soon as he reveals this, men in suits burst in to stop the proceedings.

Young-shin wraps up the story, and Jung-hoo sighs, “It’s over. The homework. For Teacher, Father, and you.” He’s free to leave the Healer behind, and Young-shin praises him for a job well done, Jung-hoo rests his head in her lap (…but… the Elder’s house…) and asks, “Living like other people—is it hard?”

“Let’s try it, living like other people,” she says. He asks, “You’ll be with me, right?” And she replies, “Of course.” He sighs that that’s enough, and closes his eyes to sleep some more, taking her hand in his.

Myung-hee prepares a nice dinner for her and Moon-shik, and her outwardly pleasant attitude puts him in a good mood. It seems she’s watching for his reaction as she tells him of watching Moon-ho’s broadcast and asks about what he didn’t tell her. He answers that he hadn’t been holding back from her, admitting that he’d suspected Joon-seok all these years, and the broadcast has allowed him peace of mind knowing that wasn’t true.

Myung-hee doesn’t like that answer (well, it is a blatant lie), and I wonder if she’d been hoping he’d respond differently. She keeps her pleasant face on, but looks meaningfully over at Ji-an’s birthday spread nearby. I do hope her suspicion extends to that story too.

Moon-shik retires to his study after dinner, and his mind flashes back to his first encounter with the Elder. And now we see what happens next: Moon-shik accepts that deal, and gives a witness statement to the police that he saw Joon-seok killing Gil-han. Interestingly, the first statement is given while he’s bloody, terrified, and shaking. The second time, Moon-shik is resigned and dead-eyed.

But by the third time, he’s crisp and alert, confident in his lies as he says that the money triggered Joon-seok’s greed. When Gil-han refused to keep it, Joon-seok killed him.

In the present day, the memory doesn’t even stir a pang of regret as he sits there, idly eating Ji-an’s birthday cookies, soul unruffled. Or maybe absent.

In contrast, over at the cafe, Young-shin and her father eye that cookie with reverent anticipation, both bummed to see that it broke in transit. Young-shin feeds Dad the first bite, and they marvel at the taste. Then Dad asks when she’s bringing “that guy” over, and she initially feigns ignorance (“Which guy? I kinda have a lot of guys”).

Dad tells her to drag him over, then sighs that of all the men, she had to pick one so weak and frail, always ready to cry at the drop of a hat. She dies laughing.

When she gets to her room, she’s startled to find Jung-hoo already here, having climbed in through the window and all ready for his hugs. She pushes him back to arm’s length and lays down a few ground rules about how to live like other people, which includes using front doors. And meeting her father to get his permission to date, which makes him grimace. Also, on his girlfriend’s birthday, he should give her a gift.

She holds out her hands expectantly, and Jung-hoo fumbles to come up with something. He gives her the necklace from around his neck, and she points out that it would be nice to get gifts that are new and wrapped. He tries to make it better by pointing out that his necklace has a tracker in it, but that just sounds worse, lol.

Young-shin lets him fasten it around her neck, and he asks, “Can I hug you now?” He grabs her in a hug without waiting, and she kicks him. HA.

He looks hurt as he asks why she keeps pushing him away, and she reminds him that he wanted to live, and love, like other people. He asks what this is, and she says, “This is… a little different from other people.”

Jung-hoo decides he can do things in the proper order, and tells her to wait. She agrees, telling him not to take too long. He notes the key points—father, salary—and she heads to the door to show him how to use it properly, only to turn around to see that he’s already left via window. Siiiigh.

Adorably, Jung-hoo then barrels in through the cafe doors, psyching himself up to get this over with. But the longer Dad stares at him blankly, the more his nerves falter and Jung-hoo mutters to himself that he can’t do it. He stammers to Dad that he’ll come back next time, and I love that he’s really not too far off from wimpy Bong-sookie after all.

Pickpocket Ajusshi enters just then, blocking Jung-hoo’s exit, and Dad slowly wraps his hand in an apron like he’s getting ready to inflict some pain. Jung-hoo says nervously that he’s here to give his proper greeting and get permission.

Young-shin hears noise and hurries downstairs, where she finds Jung-hoo in the study with Dad and ajusshi. Jung-hoo sends her pathetic pleading looks while Dad warns her to stay out of this.

Dad starts with the cafe kiss a few days ago, and just thinking of it spurs violent impulses. Ajusshi intervenes: information first, then kill. Ajusshi takes over the interrogation and asks how far they’ve gone, and thankfully Dad shoves him aside because I’m not sure that’s an answer they want to hear.

Dad asks if that soup was any good, and Jung-hoo answers that it was delicious. You’ll recall that Young-shin had called Dad for recipe instructions from Jung-hoo’s pad, and now Dad knows that Jung-hoo was the friend needing nursing all night long. Ajusshi has to hold him back while Jung-hoo darts around the room trying to avoid a beating while blurting, “I’m sorry! I’m sorry!”

Making this even better is the fact that while sounds of destruction come from the office, Young-shin listens from outside eating ice cream. As you do.

The mood takes a darker turn, however, when later that night Secretary Oh makes his way inside Moon-ho’s apartment. This can’t be good.

At the paper, Editor Jang alerts Moon-ho to postings on the Someday message board that offer information from witnesses who’ve met the Elder. It’s unclear whether these tips are legit, but Moon-ho instructs his staff to look into them, and they’ll follow up on anything that sounds promising. Editor Jang points out that they’ll be understaffed, which is Moon-ho’s cue to introduce their new employee: Jung-hoo, or rather, Bong-soo, who is heartily welcomed.

While the team congratulates him for his intrepid undercover work, Young-shin tells Moon-ho about Jung-hoo wanting to live like a regular person, which Moon-ho notes isn’t the easiest thing. Young-shin quips, “I think living like other people means not knowing what you’re doing. What’s so great about that?” She adds that Jung-hoo’s done being the Healer, laughing that she thinks he got fired. Yay for ajumma.

Moon-ho informs her that Myung-hee asked for an excuse to meet Young-shin again. As they talk cozily, Jung-hoo shoots Moon-ho the side-eye and steps right between them, just like old times. Aw, jealous Bong-sookie.

Young-shin starts to narrate an explanation about a friend reentering mainstream society, and we see Jung-hoo adapting to civilian life. He struggles to remain awake all day at work, which she compares to being a wildcat—awake for the hunt, sleeping otherwise.

When his first paycheck comes in, Jung-hoo calls in to ajumma to ask how much it was, shocked at the paltry sum (“But… I worked a whole month!”). He even wonders if he should pick up some side jobs, but ajumma reminds him that he quit being the Healer and wants her earset back. Then she screams at her screen—not at Jung-hoo, but at the hapless newbie who can’t do a simple task right. Ha, is she training the new Healer?

It’s Dae-yong, who’s in plain view of all the car black boxes around her. Dae-yong complains that there’s no street in Seoul without parked cars, and ajumma barks, “That’s why your hyungnim flew around on rooftops!”

Young-shin’s voiceover comes from her conversation with Myung-hee, and she laughingly describes how this guy is a teeny bit older but acts thirteen, which is why she has to look after him. Myung-hee guesses that she likes him, then leans right in to brush a crumb from Young-shin’s face and touch up her makeup, their rapport already comfortable.

The day arrives for Moon-shik’s live broadcast interview, and at the last minute, Moon-ho receives the alarming news that Moon-shik arrived at the station and announced that he’d be deviating from the script. This is equally disruptive to both the broadcaster and Someday, but it’s worse for Someday, who’ve lost their opportunity to counter Moon-shik’s interview replies in real time.

At the station, Moon-shik just tells Min-jae, who’s interviewing him, to ask whatever she wants. The Someday team gathers to watch, and Moon-shik starts by deftly fielding questions about whether he’s able to manage Seoul when he can’t even manage his brotherly relationship.

Moon-shik speaks openly of Moon-ho’s current activities opposing him, but invokes his own reporter past. He identifies himself as a member of the pirate broadcasts that have garnered Moon-ho so much popularity these days and even pulls out that photo to show on air.

Calling himself a journalist who once fought for the freedom of media, he says that he has to take his brother’s activities in stride—because that’s what he fought for. God, that’s infuriating. Moon-ho watches with a sour expression, and is forced to cancel their planned broadcast, given the direction of Moon-shik’s interview.

Myung-hee’s reaction is similar, full of impotent anger, and Young-shin takes her hand as they listen to Moon-shik talking about how the press frankly has too much freedom these days, and in order for that to happen, those in power have had to sacrifice a lot. Oh, boo-hoo for the rich and powerful.

Then he takes out the old suitcase full of cassette tapes belonging to Moon-ho—so that’s what Secretary Oh was doing lurking in his apartment. Jung-hoo has to jump in to keep Moon-ho from physically assaulting his television as Moon-shik proudly shows off the tapes and the old Healer zine as treasured memories. His smugness is maddening.

Myung-hee watches bitterly as Moon-shik explains the meaning behind Healer, proclaiming the press as a force that identifies and treats society’s pains, and he just takes credit for everything like a goddamned hero. Moon-shik turns to address the camera/the public, saying that he worked to protect the media, and will now turn those efforts to protecting the city of Seoul, “as well as this country’s freedom, democracy, and order.”

Myung-hee cries to Young-shin, “I’m sorry.” Young-shin doesn’t understand why, but holds her mother in her arms as she cries.

Sitting grimly after the broadcast, Jung-hoo offers to steal back the tapes, which shouldn’t be too difficult. Moon-ho points out that he’s given up his clandestine errand-running job, saying that he’d like for Jung-hoo to live normally. “But… are you okay?” Jung-hoo asks. He looks over at Moon-ho and says in joke-relief, “I was really scared you were crying.”

Moon-ho returns, “I almost cried.” Jung-hoo asks if that’s because of the stolen tapes, and Moon-ho just tells him to buy some more beer and come over, because he’s got a lot of things he wants to tell him and Young-shin.

Our Double S Guards make a reappearance, although it’s to get shoved to the side as the operation gets taken over by Jeil Newspaper’s Manager Ahn. I suppose he IS more effective than Sang-soo, who finds his office taken over by the brusque newcomer.

Min-ja has her eye on Double S and notices the movement, as does Dae-yong, who’s staking out the building. They watch the Jeil team leaving the office, and Dae-yong wonders why they’re here. Ajumma merely replies that she’s making the Healer a retirement fund, and it involves the thugs who followed him after the ex-cop died. It’s likely that one of them was the killer—but why would they be affiliated with Double S?

Dae-yong photographs the Jeil team, and the closeup of Manager Ahn’s face niggles at ajumma’s memory. Where has she seen him before?

The Someday staff stays late working their way through the Elder tips, which are mostly duds. Moon-ho looks exhausted, but rather than take a break he’s preparing for things to start soon (…more things?). He’s not sure when or how they’ll come at them, but he knows to expect something.

While the staffers doze, Moon-ho finds Young-shin sleeping in Jung-hoo’s lap, clutching his arm. He notes that the couple is being pretty blatant, and Jung-hoo informs Moon-ho that she can’t sleep around just anyone. “What about you?” Moon-ho asks. “I’m not just anyone,” Jung-hoo replies.

Jung-hoo asks about Moon-ho fighting the Elder now, and wonders if that puts Young-shin in danger. Moon-ho doesn’t know, and asks if Jung-hoo would like to take her away someplace far, where it’ll be easier to live as a normal person. Jung-hoo admits that he’s hesitating over the idea: “I think it’s because of you. Leaving you on your own and going away just the two of us doesn’t feel right.”

Moon-ho touches hand to heart and half-teases that he’s touched. But Jung-hoo says seriously, “I can’t be without her now. So if it’s for her, I could throw you away.”

“That’s okay,” Moon-ho says readily, smiling. Ack! Stop doing things that make me scared for you!

In the morning, the attack begins. In a flurry of activity, Moon-ho is hit with legal documents, including a summons by the prosecutors’ office. Then a team is sent from the National Tax Service, acting on the report that misuse of funds were used to buy out Someday. Fuming, Moon-ho can do nothing while they confiscate everything.

It looks like they’re going after Someday big-time, and Editor Jang wonders to Jung-hoo whether his wife’s current business troubles could be related. Her restaurant was hit with a health inspection and enormous fine, and the timing makes him wonder if there’s any connection. But he shakes his head, telling himself there isn’t.

Later that evening, Moon-ho pulls into his parking garage, with Jung-hoo and Young-shin not far behind, armed with beer for a friendly visit. The second Moon-ho opens his car door, he’s ambushed—gack! Noooo, not Moon-ho!

His attackers drug him with chloroform. Their cars peel out moments later, just as Jung-hoo’s car drives in. That strikes Jung-hoo as odd, and the moment he sees the dropped camera in Moon-ho’s parking spot, his sense of alarm spikes.

Jung-hoo connects to ajumma right away, asking her to track Moon-ho, and gives Young-shin the choice: come with him or wait in Moon-ho’s apartment. She guesses that fighting is likely and quickly gets out of the car—better not hold him back. When he tries to escort her upstairs, she waves him off, and he’s pressed enough to hurry out after Moon-ho. Uh-oh. I have very bad feelings about all of this.

In the getaway car with an unconscious Moon-ho, the Elder’s minions find his cell phone and hand it off to a motorcyclist, who drives off in other direction. Crap crap crap.

Jung-hoo therefore follows ajumma’s instructions following the wrong vehicle, while Young-shin waits for the elevator to Moon-ho’s apartment. Someone joins her, and she nervously looks up… at a smiling, smarmy-faced Secretary Oh.

COMMENTS

Well that’s certainly not a face you ever want to see, especially when it’s looking so gleeful. Secretary Oh should never be happy, because only bad things happen when he’s happy.

What a great (and terrible!) episode of turnarounds, coming off last episode’s euphoria of Team Healer pulling a fast one on the bad guys with such aplomb. Then there was all that relationship cuteness, and moments of warm humor, and promises of the future… and bam! We slam into a wall of darkness and unease. Dramatically, it’s fantastic. It’s just, as a viewer, I don’t know how much my nerves can take. I just care too much about these people, so sue me. *cries into cornflakes*

I was a little surprised to see the Elder storyline settle down so quickly after the live broadcast ambush, because while I knew that he would regroup later, I didn’t expect him to just… vanish and let the characters be happy and safe. I suppose that lull just makes the attack more painful when it comes, but it also serves the purpose in giving us a glimpse of life after Healer-dom, which I didn’t realize I wanted to see so badly until we saw it.

That’s not just because I want to see Jung-hoo normal and happy, but because there’s a thread of sadness woven into this concept of being reintroduced to society that I really appreciate. It’s amusing in the moment to see Jung-hoo’s reintegration foibles in a comedic light, but it also hurts the heart a little when you consider just how much of an impact his isolated life has had on who he is as a person, and how he reacts to the most ordinary of circumstances. It’s funny to call him thirteen and laugh at how he goes through windows, but then he asks in a plaintive voice why Young-shin is keeping him away from herself, and the reality comes crashing in: He doesn’t actually know how to react. He doesn’t have social graces. He’s always tired because he’s never had to be a functional adult.

It’s therefore just as saddening as it is amusing to see Jung-hoo struggling to adjust to mundane life, especially since this current life isn’t too different from what he did the first time as Park Bong-soo… it’s just that the first time, the job was the afterthought, the B-sides to Healer’s super-fly action movie A-story. This time, he has to live the B-sides as his main life, and the beauty of that is that this humdrum ordinariness is actually the goal he wants. Once he gets used to staying awake for a full workday and answering phone calls he doesn’t want to, that is. It might take a while, but thankfully, he’s got the rest of his life to figure it out.

I find myself flip-flopping on Moon-shik with every twist, and I suppose that indicates that he’s been very well-drawn on both sides of his character, because both of his extremes feel credible. Yesterday I saw him in a more sympathetic light, but today he went back to pissing me off, albeit in a good way because he’s showing more complexity and shades of his darkness, not just going back and forth between stark white and black. His interview was brilliant and infuriating in equal measure, and showed once more his gift in taking the truth and using it to shape the narrative he wants to present.

Nothing he said in the broadcast was false, and furthermore, you get the sense that Moon-shik truly believes his explanations of why he was acting for a good cause. He’s not just a good liar; he may be self-delusional about his motives, and that makes him a very dangerous character. It’s almost sociopathic, his ability to convey earnestness and truth in a way that’s just wrong. The Moon-shik of 1980 didn’t seem so bad, and the Moon-shik of 1992 (even after the accident) also appears well-intentioned and loyal. But there’s no getting around the fact that since then, he has made choices with his eyes wide open and is warping the past to bolster his actions in the present. That explains why Moon-ho and Myung-hee reacted with such frustrated rage, because he’s just too good at twisting facts into his version of the truth.

The explanation of the Farmers takes us in an interesting direction, shifting the story away from the personal injustices and into a darker well of institutionalized corruption. This is something Writer Song does particularly well (and reminds me of Story of a Man, in fact), and by the time we get to this part of the story we’re deeply invested because of the connection to our main characters. (As to the particulars of the case: I’m not 100 percent sure I’m understanding correctly, so correct me if I’m wrong, but the scene witnessed by Gil-han and Joon-seok showed the Farmers involved in a massive payoff that involved the willful use of bad construction materials. It turns this into a more dangerous issue than politicians merely stashing away illegal funds—that’s a bad enough thing, but at least not a direct threat to public safety.)

But on to Moon-ho, whose fate isn’t looking so good right about now. To be honest, I was never convinced he’d make it out of the drama alive, but the more he integrated with Team Healer, the more positive I thought his chances were for survival. On a symbolic level I argue with myself that it works better to keep him alive, as a survivor of this cyclical series of events that began in 1980; his internet broadcasts carry echoes of the old rebellious spirit, and because of his age he has always been smack-dab in the middle of the two generations, acting as a link but never quite belonging to either group. So he isn’t necessarily bound to the old tragedy, and I feel like an argument could be made for him being the way to break the cycle in the new generation.

On the other hand, recent episodes hint at his willingness to hurtle headlong into the fight without concern for coming out of it alive, and he might just go down fighting. It’s a lovely contrast to his earlier apathy, where he lived because he wasn’t dead, not because he had any great motivation to stay alive. Now that he’s discovered a passion to keep him going, surely the writer wouldn’t be so cruel as to snatch that away from us/him, would she? (Worried side note: She totally would be that cruel. It’s kind of why I love her writing, and also feel pain because of it.)

And perhaps viewed symbolically from the other side, it’s possible that the message for Moon-ho is that it’s more meaningful to live with purpose for a short time than to exist indefinitely without purpose. That links him closer to the older generation, most of whom met premature ends but whose lives were, as far as we can judge, well-lived and well-loved.

Aghhhh, basically I think this means that Moon-ho could live or die and either case is supported thematically and symbolically, and now I’m just scared. Don’t die, Moon-ho! Please?

YS: You said it. You wanted to love like other people do.
JH: Love.
YS: Love.

Can I just say that I was totally excited when this couple finally used the word "love" to describe their relationship?

So simple, but so sweet.

I also thought it was adorable when YS playfully smacked JH's mouth when he yawned. Cute.

I squeed hard!

It's like they're indirectly saying "I love you" to each other, minus the cheesiness.

I hate/love it when a show pulls a surprise move on me like this !!! I KNEW there would be hell for our good guys in this episode (as you all know : good things can't last too long in Dramaland), but WHHYYYY ? MH is kidnapped, YS meets Creepy Secretary and JH is being led in the wrong direction !!
I hope that he notices something is wrong, tells Ahjumma and makes her check on the CCTVs. Then he calls MS telling him he didn't think he would stoop so low as to kidnap his brother (I personnally think the Elder ordered the kidnapping, and MS doesn't know). Then MS would call the Elder, telling him he can reason his brother and he would sacrifice himself to save him in a desperate move (it's the only way I can forgive him). In the mean time, JH would know YS is in danger, because of that necklace. Like, she escaped from Creepy Secretary's clutches and is running or hiding. And then he ruches in to find her.
In the end, everyone survives, they manage to take down the Elder (or at least get themselves out of danger), and they can finally get their 2 kids, cats, dogs and goldfish, with their Healr-reporter works and MH as a babysitter.

Everyone can dream no ? Because though I didn't really like Moon Ho at the beginning, I grew very attached to him... Please don't kill him, I already had a hard time with the Prosecutor in CH ! :(

On a more cheerful note, that scene between JH and the 2 Dads was EVEN BETTER than what I had imagined (when JH gave himself away with the soup, I was laughing so hard xD)

With only 2 episodes left, will we witness the making of a real hero? Will JH become a social injustice fighter?

Those Who Commented 26 to 26.2 , They are responsible for my stomach ache, sore throat and teary eyes because I was rolling and laughing like hell ...

But I admit I also got confused when JH constantly saying that he did nothing, he didn't go that far!!!! I was like "reallyyy????"

Didn't pretty much all of you just assume upon seeing them in the same bed?

If they did "go that far," it would have been the first time for both, right? Certain behavioral indicators seemed missing for these first-timers.

what IS jung-ho's definition of "that far" anyway? this is a guy who runs over rooftops instead of using the street, and who thinks nothing of wiretapping someone's room (and getting under her bed too, and eventually IN her bed. or having her over lol).

"that far" for him might involve deserted tropical islands and kids :D

He said he didn't do anything.
So shall we assume that he was too tired and sick from not eating or drinking for 6 days, like we worried that he couldn't, and so CYS did Everything?

Well to me that scene confirmed 100% that YS was definitely on top and doing all the work. I mean the girl initiated everything with that kiss...she might've been the one to take off their clothes etc... ;)

@Siesta

Exactly, YS initiated everything with the first kiss. We all know JH is too weak to move much, and with all the sexual tension, I'm sure YS (who dad pointed out has never been patient) wanted to release it somehow - so this is just a good enough reason for her to anyway. It totally explained her embarrassed look in the morning. And after JH got his energy back in the morning, it was time for round two (JH doing all the work). Don't you all agree? Those two make such a compatible pair ;)

0

@Giegie

I can't believe we're discussing this right after the armpit comments haha girls really do have an imagination ;)

Agree! Giving credit to where it is due is must! LOL

@Annabelle
I actually read somewhere (couch kimch IIRC) that Young-shin likes to be in control of EVERYTHING. Like how she is always the one dragging and wrist-grabbing Jung-hoo instead of the other way around. So yeah, considering how weak JH was that night...I can't believe I'm saying what I'm saying right now haha!

This show is rated age 15 appropriate - they were clearly trying to not be overt about the bed/sex scene but I think it's obvious in dramaland that if you see strewn clothes, half naked bodies in bed and going under the covers all demonstrate that they did have sex (not to mention to shower after and the regular hugs/kisses they share now). Given the tenor of this show where they have developed JH and YS's relationship issues very practically, realistically and without much pomp and circumstance, I think the point is yes they had sex, yes they are in a relationship and yes they have very deep (love) feelings for each other and act the way most people in relationships act. So, moving on. I'm glad they didn't make it into a huge deal. They did, and they're dating now. I think the point YS was making about him asking her dad is more cultural. YS wants their relationship to be open and date like normal folks and she just wants her dad to know about it and happily approve it. I don't think it's a crazy notion she is suggesting and it's completely irrespective of whether they slept together or not. And I agree with everyone else, what guy would tell the girl's dad honestly that he slept with the girl. I mean, it's clear the dad already assumes and that's why he was running around mad.

Half-naked bodies! Where? I remember some comments about them wearing too much clothing and certain items of clothing not being strewn about.

Just out of curiosity. On the off chance that dad denies permission to date for the time being, then what?

0

@snickers
then they'd just have to unleash all their aegyo power until Daddy melts lol
it is common sense to get the parents' approval if they want to date openly though, esp since YS still lives with hers

0

If daddy denies then JH has to give just one reason, CYS can not sleep with anyone in the room, but him. he does not have to explain because daddy saw them and he was equally surprised :)

0

@siesta, @fantasy

My dad took my sister overseas for 2 years. A family friend sent his son to manage his factory overseas. This permission thing can be a double-edged sword.

I suppose I just don't want JH to keep lying to YS's father on important stuff. He is a great father and kind of a shame that he's being played like that.

Jung Hoo: I was thinking about the return of Park Bong Soo. In these last 2 episodes which have the subtitles” Won't you answer me?” and “Just like the others”, I get a sense of how uncomplicated Jung Hoo is. How naive, simple, direct and childlike he is and how Bong Soo is not another persona, so much as the shyer, less well socialised side of JH.

YS says he is like a 13-year old and she is not too far off since it was at that age that he came under Teacher’s wing and had little other upbringing than Teacher’s rough ways.

In his childlike directness, he is true to himself and what he understands a situation to mean. If a person is wondering about him, just ask, and he will answer. When he needs a hug, he goes up to YS to get it. When YS needs to be assured he hugs and kisses her, audience or no. When a relationship of trust is formed, he trusts the other.

Now about to face the dilemma of split loyalties (we guess that he has to choose between saving Moon Ho and saving Young Shin) our simple direct JH will have to make a simple decision. He will probably follow his heart.

It is interesting that according to YS, JH’s aspiration is to be “Just like others”, to just have a mundane, normal life. But I wonder why. The scene in which this decision was made was strangely at Elder’s residence after Elder had left him with an offer to join the Farmers or be the ones farmed (sounds horrible). He hears the story as told in his father’s recorded statement and instead coming up with a reply for Elder or deciding to continue to make public his father’s innocence, JH chooses to side-step these, be ‘normal’ and leave the fight more or less to Moon Ho. How will living a normal life aid the fight against Elder? Or does he no longer see it as his fight?

YS did not ever express a dis-satisfaction to having Healer as a boyfriend, so on that score, there was no reason to quit as Healer. It is true however that he may have told Ahjumma that he’d quit after solving the riddle of MH and YS. But living as a ‘normal’ person does nothing for him or his relationship with YS. Perhaps it makes him more palatable to Appa or serves a sense of right in that he will no longer ‘be a thief’. But it still does not really make sense.

For him to be like the others, to me, is that he has to be true to himself. He has skills and in his role as Healer, he had confidence in abundance and a focus. Now with his awakening to how many persons care about him and how he too responds in like manner, he only has to bring his heart into his work as Healer. He has yet to move on from being concerned with his immediate future, to consider a future he might like to make for himself and his children. He can continue now to do what he does best, but with focus on how his work could right wrongs and bring greater justice, continuing the work his father started on, while building a home with YS. And yes, bring to justice those who besmirched his father’s name.

I’d like him to take...

I’d like him to take up the mantle of those five friends and continue on to heal his world with YS at his side. A mantle that is big enough to cover and protect Healer, Jung Hoo and Park Bong Soo.

but JH has never had delusions of fighting for justice in the first place. everything he did was for himself or the people he cares about. he worked as healer for money, he nabbed the dirty cop because of teacher and he even worked to uncover his dad's death because of YS. like he said, all of his 'assignments' were finished. he has no intentions of fighting the war with elder, it was always MH. the only thing he wants now is to live like a regular civilian, free of worry about being in danger etc.

Hi Growingbeautifully!

I think that JH's true aspiration is to be with CSY. As he said so himself on the rooftop in Ep 10, he wants to be "by her side, carefully, and for a long time".

The best way to achieve this goal is to be "Just like the others"; he knows that being Healer is a dangerous job. Certainly, his teacher's death and final words of advice would have driven this point home quite hard.

I feel that the main reason he has persisted in the Healer role up till now is because he himself was unsure of his father's culpability in OGH's death. This uncertainly would have remained a sore point in his relationship with CSY - even if CSY accepted him unconditionally, there would still be an inevitable amount of guilt for him.

So when he became certain of his father's innocence, he longer had any compulsion to stay in the Healer mantle, as his "homework" was now complete. It didn't matter to him if his father's name was cleared in a court of law, or if the culprits were brought to justice; the only thing that mattered was that he and CSY knows the truth.

Having said that, JH has not completely given up the fight. Whilst he may not have as much of a personal stake in it, he was more than willing to stay on, out of loyalty to KMH, and fight on using KMH's means.

From a thematic point of view, I agree with your view that JH should move on from being concerned about his personal circumstances, to fighting for greater justice - to actually be a genuine healer for society, a true hero, ala Gaksital style.

However, the main attraction of this drama for me is actually the romantic focus on JH & CSY's relationship - I really do get the sense that JH would be willing to sacrifice everything for CSY. He'd much rather be the ordinary guy by CSY's side, than to be the hero whose primary concern is the greater good. Maybe this is why everyone finds this drama so swoon-worthy.

(I mean, if Gaksital was given a binary choice to either save the country or save Mok Dan, I'm pretty sure he would end up choosing country, "cos that's what Mok Dan would have wanted". Granted, that's very heroic, but not very romantic.)

@ sungsta

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and think and give me such a well-thought out reply. You've reminded me of JH's original intentions and so from your explanation, it does seem that he is consistent. I feel that you are correct. However, I guess I had hoped that JH would have grown a little bit more than just think about himself, in the face of all the scares, injustice, crimes and threats that came his way and the way of his friends/mum.

He himself says that if he killed Oh, he'd be doing a good deed. And he should know that people like Elder will not rest on their laurels and will eliminate all whom they consider threats.

His sleepiness seems to have gone beyond the mere physiological to encompass his once active mind and will. In a sense, it is good that Moon Ho got kidnapped, if only to see JH decide to jump into decisive action.

I like your take on what makes the romance swoon-worthy, that given the choice, he would *not* save the world, but rather only save his girl. I guess I'm the have-your-cake-and-eat-it kind of viewer. I want a lead who is both heroic and romantic. I feel that one does not preclude the other. I agree that JH is not perfect and maybe rather short-sighted and self-centred, however I'd like the last 2 episodes to give him more growth, to be Healer not only in name, to challenge him to new heights and acts of goodness and love that goes beyond the romance. :)

It would be weird actually he would change overnight just because of a girl. It's realistic , even after making a decision he finds it quite hard to live like others live, with a low salary , managing expenses, meeting people. But he is trying that's the main thing and I was amused that YS actually has no problem him being healer " living like others, what's so great about it" . I wouldn't mind if they show him still sleeping at office at the end too :D

Growthbeautifully, I agree with you 100%. Moreover, given their close relationship, JH may be inspired by YS ,her dad and MH to fight for social injustice. Ahjumma fought against the crooks as a senior police in the past. She was disillusioned because of the corruption. It is likely that given the opportunity, she may also be motivated again to work with JH to do greater good.

Someone posted a translation of PMY's Sohu interview in Soompi. Here's an excerpt that caught my attention:

Their purposes are at odds with each other. Unless Min Jae does something drastic the next couple of episodes to show that she's still a reporter who'll fight the good fight, when push comes to shove, perhaps by an expose in order to save the kidnapped MHo's life? One can only hope.

Hacker Ahjumma knows JH's priority, she won't keep any knowledge that YS may be in danger from JH. Actually, the decision is YS's. She has to turn on the GPS locket, which she might not do as she knows MHo has been kidnapped and that JH has gone to save him.

What I fear and DON'T want to happen is for Elder to kidnap both MHo and YS and place JH in such a position that he can only save one while abandoning the other, and end up working for Elder - the same guile he used on MS back in '92. For some reason, Elder really wanted Healer to work for him, and still does. :-(

I am not sure turning on the locket tracker would determine if YS is in danger or not though. Someone from baddies's side would have to call Jung-hoo for him to know if she is.

I am still hoping that MS is the one behind MH's kidnapping because in the previous episode he said he will take care of him and that he will persuade him into backing off, by using YS, I hope.

If the kidnappers were the SS goons, then it's possible that MS ordered the kidnapping - he owns SS after all. But the kidnappers didn't look like they were from SS plus the convo between MS and Elder when the old man brought up the number of missing persons in SK annually, bodes ill for MHo - I'm not holding my breath that MS ordered the kidnapping. :-(

oh noooo... don't kill moon ho writer-nim! i'm gonna bawling my eyes out for a year if you kill him writer-nim!

as always, Healer's new episode never disappoint. this episode particularly, just ensure me that moon shik is a devil after all. since the start of the drama, i kind of pitying moon shik, thinking that he's doing all kind of bad things are all because he wants to make sure myung hee is safe and that she's with him. he loves her dearly. love is always the reasons why people acting crazy, especially in dramaland, of course. and in the case of moon shik, i kind of thinking i can forgive him for the sake of his love for myung hee, and i keep pushing all the blame towards the Elder and Secretary Oh.
but this episode happened, and gawd, when they showed the flashback of when he accused Jung hoo's father as the person who killed Ji An's father, albeit the fact that initially, in his bloody condition, he seemed honestly scared, then they show him to gradually lost his soul, and then, poof, he talked as if everything that he said is the truth, successfully embracing the demon in him. That demon in him had always been inside of him when he was with his other 4 friends. from what we saw of the 5 friends' flashback, he always seemed like the odd one out, this probably mostly contributed to the fact that he's jealous that myung hee chooses kil ahn, instead of him. but because of their friendship, he held it all in. but when kil-ahn died, his demon side resurfaced, so in this sense, i can't blame the Elder 100% for Moon Shik's transformation into the bad guy, because i think he'd always has this dark side of him hidden since he was young. when the Elder offers him something that he couldn't refuse, he accepted it and officially sold his soul to the devil.

that scene where dad and young shin excited about the cookie is soooo cute! albeit a bad trauma, young shin is lucky to grow up with such a kind and warm adopted father.

that conversation between moon ho and jung ho at the office while young shin is sleeping is so adorable and warm to look at. i love their bromance! or is it uncle-niecemance? lol

somehow, i have a feeling that myung hee already know or even suspected that young shin is her daughter. i'm really glad that the writer didn't make myung hee's character as weak and incapable of taking care of herself. initially, i thought she was weak. but gradually, i sees that it's not that she's weak, it was more that moon shik is the one keeping her under the shadow about everything, thinking he was protecting her, making all of us think, even moon ho thinks that myung hee is weak. but from the recent episodes, we saw that myung hee held on her own, sure, there's that stress that may send her to shock, but she is capable of handling it well, unlike what other people think. so that's why i think myung hee now knows more than we think she knows, and particularly, i think she knows young shin is ji ahn.

i love love...

Have not watched this episode, but would like to share with you guys the English lyrics of the soothing voice of JCW in "I Will Protect You" which was released yesterday.

Ji Chang Wook - I Will Protect You

You are the person that makes my heart ache when I just look at you
I'm afraid of you will disappear if I close my eyes
I can't be apart from you, not even a step
Today I stand by your side like this as well, my love

Even if you don't turn around, I'm always here
So that you can always lean on me in my arms

You are the person that I want to embrace
You are the person I can't let go
I will take away all your sad tears
Because you are the only person in the world who can make me laugh
Please don't cry anymore, I will protect you

I am thankful for the person who took my cold hands
And made my hand warm, that person was you
Even if I breathe, It doesn't feel like living
Because if I can't see you, there wouldn't any meaning in my life

You are the person that I want to embrace
You are the person I can't let go
I will take away all your sad tears
Because you are the only person in the world who can make me laugh
Please don't cry anymore, I will protect you

There is no other love
Even if time passes and the world changes, there is only you

Even if I suffer alone, I'm okay
If it is for you, I'm okay
I will even embrace all of your scars
Because you are the only person in the world who can make me laugh
Please don't cry anymore, I will protect you

I love you
Please stay by my side forever

OH MY JCW, YOU ARE KILLING ME WITH YOUR VOICE, YOUR EYES, YOUR EVERYTHING. MARRY ME? PLEASE?

Episode 18 was the episode I had been waiting for a while now. It gave me everything I wanted and more (Bong-sookie I missed you!!). When Healer retired and JH started living a 'normal' life I thought, okay, this is what life will be like without the Elder's interference. For a short time (too short) it was so satisfying to watch that I could have cried with happiness! Young-shin getting closer to her mother, and our gorgeous OTP being happy, comfortable, and angst free for once. We all knew Elder was going to destroy all this and of course he just has.
I'm hoping this foreshadowing of MH's death is what the writer wants us to believe. I'm hoping she's leading us to think this way so we can all be grateful for his survival. I do think MS will try to save his brother. I really do. But I don't know if he will succeed. I’m pretty sure that neither JH nor YS will die, otherwise I seriously think the whole series would have been a waste. I’ve invested 20 weeks of my life in these two, and I’m constantly in and out of reality I just don’t know what I’m doing anymore. The writer is very smart so she couldn’t do this to her loyal fans? I think MH, MS, MH are at risk of dying though. I actually think JH is the most in danger here. I think Elder wants to get rid of him first and foremost so JH may not come out unscathed!!
As we've glimpsed what life is like with JH living normally, do you think the final episode will take us back there once Elder is finally destroyed, or will YS and JH have a new ending, a new life ahead? I personally loved seeing JH back in society having a regular job and I could watch another 20 episodes of the Someday crew doing their journalistic stuff  I know JH and YS will get a happy ending but I also wish a happy ending for the rest of the characters we’ve grown to love!

i think he'll switch his name eventually, but BS is part of his personality when concerning human relations lol. i think he'll phase out of the awkwardness (cute as it is) as he "learns to speak human" :D

as for revealing who he is. didn't KMS just make healer a hero? he said he was part of the healer team, and that they did heroic things, and before that, MH presented teacher and his action in a rosy view, so the public already should know being healer is something great not shady. and i wouldn't be afraid much of the detective and the police - ahjumma told healer she could make his BS identity the real one, and had already done a lot of cover up. the detective had his healer gifts and eventually he'll let go of his obsessions with the healer. imagine him going to ahjumma to become part of the operation lol. both of them ordering poor dae young around :D

If she is then I am very happy about it. She totally dresses cool like Healer, with boots hoodie and all. And she's JH's protégé... JH was once like her when he started out as Healer 8 years ago. I'm sure a couple of years down, she'll be a pro and maybe even beat JH (am I too hopeful thinking this? I seriously want a badass female Healer!). And ship her with spy Jong soo. They're both so alike... DY at the beginning was bosses around by Healer for having wanted to do more jobs, she gets told what to do all time and gets ignored. Jong soo also gets told what to do all the time and gets ignored (even abandoned twice haha). These two are so alike that I seriously ship them! Who's with me on this?

@ilikehealer, Shelly, Growingbeautifully,

I so agree! Like I've said before earlier how DaeYong is such a cool girl and that Jongsoo's character reminds me of Bongsookie version 2. DY reminds me of YS's character being cool and everything. I don't know if you all agree but I feel like it's no coincidence that Jongsoo's name just happens to sound so similar to Bongsoo's name.

YS already has her Bongsookie, so anyone up for a Jongsookie too? Wouldn't it be so great if DY calls JS Jongsook by mistake just like how YS called BS Bongsook?

Except the only difference is that Jongsookie really is a real Bongsookie, while BS was just an act. Jongsoo is Bongsookie with his cuteness 24/7. I would be very happy writer-nim not only set this ship on sail but gives us a Jongsookie too (by having DY calling him Jongsookie) :D haha

Yup totally, I hope she writes in another awesome ship without it interrupting the story too much (aka Dae Yong x Jong Soon) :D even just a scene of them at the ending would be great. I still wanna see DY having a habit of calling Jongsookie and JS correcting her in very much the same way as YS/BS did :)

0

@ Teru

We could probably make several 2 line rhymes ending with their names! LOLOL! I remember @Christa tried that a few recaps ago using PBS/JH/JCW as the theme.

There once was a spy called Jong Sookie
Who constantly got left out by Bong Sookie

Until he saw a girl on a stair
Who made him start and stare

ohho, while team healer did a good job last time plastering elder's face on the net, he did turn it around with KMS' performance... so the team lost their advance and their proofs (those tapes were the originals, right? why didn't anyone make copies as decoys? were they so sure they could keep them safe, when dealing with elder?...)

KMS' hero-presentation struck a nerve with me... i had thought losing ji-an on purpose was his first lie, but even before that, he had lied repeatedly about gil-han's killer... and that while clearly and distinctively knowing the truth. HOW could he do that to his friend? i could have seen it agains gil-han, who had the woman KMS loved, but what had junh-seok ever done to KMS to deserve that?... that's evil and no amount of "saving myung-hee's live" can ever excuse it.

i kind of expected MH to lose the tracker so that healer wouldn't be able to track him on time. but considering the take-down of the MH-raised wall that happened before, i think elder is not going to kill MH but place him in a very bad and very public situation. maybe get him drunk and/or drugged and have him arrested for it, then imply all his internet broadcasts were due to being mad at his brother for cutting off his drug money or something. though that could also mean having him also "suicide" as jung-seok presumably has, to keep things clean.

secretary oh is gonna take YS in an elevator? for reals? i don't see how. she's already afraid of elevators, and knows what he's capable of... and she has the bf/healer tracker-necklace lol. i knew that one would come in handy. now when healer loses MH and finds out YS is in danger, his choice is going to be a little simpler (his new friend/brother/father figure or the girl he loves. geee, what will he choose?)

and ohhhhh bongsookieeeeeee~~~~~~~~~~ i loved it that everyone welcomed him back, he needed to know he didn't have just a handful of friends. even if the SN people are just regular friends not heart-friends, they're still people who know him and like him for his BS personality, who seems to be pretty much part of himself lol. loved the ex-gangster ahjussi laying down the rules lol. poor dad didn't know if he should be embarrassed or mad lol. and even watching raw, i KNEW what they were talking about.

bongsookieeeeee, yay~~~~~

Finally caught up with the subbed episode, I'll cry a bucket of tears if they kill off Moon-Ho! I'm so incredibly emotionally connected to these characters I just want the show to be a happy ending and everyone going off to Moro Moro Island and live happily ever after *sniffs*

Been listening to the OST like crazy! I really hope the instrumental tracks will be out soon because I love them :* probably the only soundtrack so far where I could stomach all the instrumentals because they are all so pretty (especially the ones related to the OTP scenes d'awwwww).

I really want to go back to 9 weeks ago when I first got into Healer to relive all the emotional roller coaster ride this drama has given me. :')

and bongsookie said the taxi trip was 40 minutes, so he has an interest in this too. imagine that. 40 minutes with her drunk, and in the dark, and no father or gangsta ahjussi around.

Sub-thread: COMMENTERS CONJECTURES or I think I know what will happen next.

This sub-thread gives a space for grandiose guesswork by Beanies who are dying after cliff hangers, and need to speculate, suppose and surmise :D
=====

My hopeful guesses as to what will happen:

Conjecture 1 re: Moon Ho: He will be kept safe, (but under lock and key to keep him away from upsetting the apple cart), because Elder will not want MS to be so upset that he cannot run for Mayor. Det Yoon will get in on the game when he finds his source of info is missing and Ahjumma will rope Yoon in to help spring MH, while JH goes off to help YS get out of Oh's clutches.

Conjecture 2 re: Young Shin: Being the smart girl that she is and as long as she keeps away from being chloroformed or beaten by Oh (not his style I think, his is the more distance killing style LOL!) or does not give in to threats/blackmail against her daddy/Moon Ho/Myung Hee, will, even if taken away to one of MS's villas, put on her tracker and make her get away. Ahjumma will be alerted by the tracker and either JH or Dae Yong may end up coming to her rescue instead if necessary.

We also have a host of ex-convict ahjusshis to utilise in a rescue attempt. It will be a shame not to bring them on for the finale!!! :D

@GB

I love those scenarios you've came up with. Conjecture 1sounds very plausible and most likely would be the correct prediction, however for me (since I love a kickass heroine), I want YS to save herself. I think she's perfectly capable of making her own escape and really true to her brave character. As much as I'm aware of why YS needs Healer (because of her PTSD) when is sees violence, I think this time around when she doesn't see violence she can be brave and escape somehow. However, before all that I think the writer will make use of JH having to face the dilemma between choosing MH or YS (and we all know which he will choose...that foreshadowing scene/convo wasn't there without a reason). I hope none of the characters die though, but I do have a bad feeling. MH reminds me of the prosecutor (Young Joo) in City Hunter. He died in episode 19 for justice and some of the foreshawing scenes leading up of his death parallels some of the scenes here in Healer. Also, this cliffhanger once again reminded me of Batman and how Bruce had to choose between his love (Rachel) or his friend (Dent) only to the fact he was too late to rescue Rachel (I.e. Rachel dies) which I hope will not be the case.

Required fields are marked *

Hmm actually I'm betting on Conjecture 2 with YS saving herself - I want to see this happen! :)

0

Required fields are marked *

Conjecture #1: KMS did not know about Moon-Ho's kidnapping. With his brother's life in danger (and maybe, any of the goms), he changes tunes and goes against the Elder. This is the only way for KMS to redeem himself, even for a little bit. Otherwise, he's really a goner.

Conjecture #2: With CYS is in danger, it is high time for Dad, pickpocket ahjussi and the ex-convict samchuns to step up to the plate to rescue her. This would be an opportunity for Dad to see Bong-sookie being badass and oh, so able to protect his daughter.

The ex-convict gang better show up, otherwise I will be disappointed with SJN's writing. Why brought those extra characters in, if not for a purpose down the road?

Don't want to conjecture on SJH's and Ahjumma's f2f meeting. Let SJN surprise us!

@k lava
I guess it was a matter of being expedient to catch up with Moon Ho's attackers. YS decided to let JH go without her and MH's place was just there. They have begun to under-estimate the enemy, which is going to wreak all kinds of havoc.

Now our team are all kept separated, without full info and maybe unable to communicate with each other easily. Best kind of cliffhanger but like JB says, not good for our hearts. :)

@Growingbeautifully

"....maybe unable to communicate with each other .."

This worries me. From the way the groundwork has been laid, it looks like Manager Ahn is someone who can give Hacker Ahjumma a run for her money. If Ahjumma is taken down, JH will be blinded, a near repeat of his almost capture by the SS goons.

Let's hope Ahjumma stays on top of her game and boot Ahn off the screen.

However, just to be contrary :) maybe it will be interesting or even squee-worthy for JH to rely less on all the techno geek stuff for a time and see if he can come up with something out of sheer human resourcefulness to get himself or Moon Ho or YS out of a jam. (A "Mcgyver" thing if you know that series :) )

However, I can't help wondering if Moon Ho and Myung Hee knows something more (that we don't yet know) to make them react so violently.

In actual fact, when I saw Myung Hee cry (and apologize to CSY), I thought for a second that maybe Myung Hee had figured out their mother daughter relationship, and was now apologizing for losing her!

I just want to see someone, anyone, bopping Sec Oh one, or two (or more). And he'll just take it without fighting back, like what happened when MHo threw him around in MS' study, so you won't get the satisfaction of giving him a really good trashing.

That smirk of his really gets my goat, like the time he literally gave Det Yoon the middle finger, just before he got on his ride back after being released from police custody. Now, he's smirking again, relishing the thought of putting fear in YS. He's such a coward, won't fight a man but takes delight in bullying women, YS and JH's mom. That slimy b*****d!

Bop him already! Any takers?

0

Required fields are marked *

BOP BOP BOP for Sec Oh.

I'm still under the belief though that there is definitely something unhinged in that brain of his. As a footman, he doesn't acknowledge anything he's doing as morally wrong. For him, everything is just an order needed to be followed.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Which reminds me of JH's line in episode 2. "I don't care about ethics or justice, that is my ethic and justice to my client."

Sec Oh is a lot like a 'Healer' I guess, but one that belongs to a darker spectrum. If JH back then as Healer still had some morals, Sec Oh is too far gone to be redeemed.

I've mentioned this before how Jongsoo is cute like Bongsookie in the previous recap. So I'd like to see Dae Yong having a soft spot for Jongsoo since they're very much alike. DY is the cool girl just like YS always feeling the need to protect BS. I want to see the same thing for DY needing to protect Jongsoo and never let him get abandoned by his teammates. Like what I said in comment 115.1.3 above, wouldn't it be cool that if DY and JS officially met, DY calls him Jongsook? I mean there's got to be no coincidence that Jongsoo's name just happens to be similar to Bongsoo's name. They both almost sounds the same.

So...with that being said, anyone here also wants a Jongsookie like me too? Or am I just the only weird one wishing this for the ending :P

@Sumee

Lol! That's the one I most often see whenever I wish to see JCW's face. I always see this one - LMH pointing the gun. It's like DB is punishing me for kicking CH off the top #1 drama and putting Healer there instead. I've watched so many dramas in the past and CH has always been my top #1...until this drama came along that is. I even find JCW to be more handsome than LMH (JCW's face is more sharper and manlier), LMH's face seems to be a bit "fuller" and not as handsome anymore to me. Just my opinion :) haha

Awesome awesome episode!

My fav moment: Father-Son In Law confrontration.

I was literally in stitches I laughed so hard...JCW completely nailed it...of course the other 2 actors are veterans which made the scene even more hilarious.

2nd fav: JH and YS in her bedroom scene:

YS:"If you want to live like normal people, you need to come in through the doors"
JH:"yes...after we go to bed"...PRICELESS! The guy has a one track mind...hahaha...

The way they are so stuck to each other like glue(so cute!), If they are not careful...we'll get a mini healer on the way before he even get a decent salary job.

Now to the bad:

I swear if "swarmy" secretary Oh does not die begging for his life, I'll be mad at you writer nim.

I don't think I've ever seen such a slimy, evil character.

I hate him with passion and that man deserves a painful death!

OMO. Secretary Oh is the reincarnation of Lee Jae-kyung. He is just missing the ring but replaced by the smirk and hand on his mouth. *shudders*
Worst thing is that KMS possesses some of LJK traits too. Scaaary but a welcome thriller part of the show.

UGH Monday come faster!

It was fun having the bad guys chase Healer but aim in the dark, but now the hit close home.

I'm really curious to see how the writers will resolve JH/PBS/Healer. JH is dating YS as JH. But her dad knows him as PBS. Someday News folks know him as PBS. So, how is JH going to be introduced to these folks as JH? I wonder how they'll write that one out. The simplest would be for JH to continue as Healer, for dad to find out that JH is Healer but remain silent about it (since he loves his daughter) and sadly but necessarily, PBS must disappear. They can't all exist and it'd be really sad for JH to have to continue to live as PBS in order to live a "normal" life. That's not him, that's just a persona. JH has only now found himself, hopefully he can continue to live as JH and not anyone else. And isn't living as your true self what it means to live a "normal" life? Of course, that leaves the business of being Healer.... can't that just be a job and not his identity? So many questions.... two episodes left. I need a Healer Season 2. If only the ratings were off the charts, then a Season 2 could be a possiblity... I don't understand the Korean audience: this is such a fantastic show, why aren't the ratings through the roof?

Jung-ho has his own identity apart from being Healer. The latter was just his job, the police also don't know Healer as Jung-ho or Bong-sook. I am expecting this will resolved just like LJS's character in Pinocchio. It's not difficult for them to understand that he hid his real identity because he was searching for the truth about his father's case. The whole story from the past will probably continue being exposed in detail by Someday News.

Anything is possible with this writer. I heard she can be quite cruel.

But I'm still remaining optimistic. It would go against the entire theme of the drama which is "healing" for a MC to die in the end. Song Ji Na, please, please. I have faith in you.
