Healer: Episode 18

Strap yourselves in, folks, it’s a roller coaster of an episode, running the entire emotional gamut—there’s plenty of cuteness and laughs, but with only one more week left, we can’t rest too assured in momentary comforts. We’re never far from the undercurrent of unease that runs throughout, reminding us that there’s just enough time for one more big fight. And that’s sure to be a doozy.

EPISODE 18 RECAP

Backing up a bit, we see how the tape made its way to Moon-ho’s broadcast, rather than into the Elder’s hand. Aha, so it was Dae-yong who got to the charnel vault first, and she finds a box tucked in the back containing the real tape. She swaps it for a decoy, then takes it to Moon-ho directly.

Moon-ho listens right away, then calls Jung-hoo to inform him of its contents. As they’d known, Seo Joon-seok wasn’t guilty, but moreover, he wasn’t even initially a suspect. He’d gone to the police to report Gil-han’s murder, with photos as proof. Thus the tape isn’t a suspect statement but a witness statement.

Jung-hoo has to pull over the car to process the good news, and he and Young-shin smile at each other.

Moon-ho thinks the tape is enough to take to broadcast, and tells Jung-hoo to come back. Jung-hoo asks Young-shin what she thinks, and she’s of the same mind as him: They’ll see through the original plan.

So now we resume with Jung-hoo capturing the Elder’s face on camera for all the nation to see. A bodyguard blocks the Elder from view, but Jung-hoo jumps into reporter mode (with some of Bong-soo’s demeanor) and starts asking a question. It goes ignored as the Elder leaves the room.

Jung-hoo has a few seconds of broadcast time before the guards close in on him, and calls out, “These people must work for the Elder! I’ll ask you a question! Surely you wouldn’t use violence and beat the reporter who came to interview the Elder during a live broadcast?”

His glasses and wallet are confiscated, and then the Elder returns to the room. Upon confirmation that this guy is a reporter named Park Bong-soo, he asks, “Didn’t you say you were the Healer?”

Jung-hoo laugh-stutters, “I-if I said that, ha ha, I was told you’d meet with me.” Gah, I am so glad Bong-soo is not real, because he would not be long for this world. The Elder says he’d talk if Bong-soo were the Healer, but if not… Jung-hoo guesses, “You’d k-kill me? But I don’t wanna die.”

He asks if “Grandpa” really is the Elder, and the Elder replies that he didn’t need to broadcast his face in order to ask that. But Jung-hoo counters that Gramps kills people who bother him, and he couldn’t have that—this is their way of posting a “Beware of dog” type warning sign.

The Elder crouches to meet Jung-hoo’s eye level and calls him child, asking who he is. Jung-hoo replies that there’s a man named Seo Joon-seok among the people Grandpa’s killed: “I am his son, Seo Jung-hoo. Grandpa, when you kill people in the future, you ought to think of their sons or daughters.”

Outside the house, Young-shin waits impatiently with a camera, trying to urge the police officers with her to intervene. But the police can’t do anything without proper authorization, so Young-shin just starts filming right there. There’s not much to see, but it’s enough to show police officers stationed outside the Elder’s house, and Moon-ho turns over the broadcast to show the scene. Within moments of it airing, the guards restraining Jung-hoo inside back off.

The Elder invites Jung-hoo to sit, offering Jung-hoo a drink that gets refused, and lighting an incense stick like this is some kind of polite visit. Jung-hoo has dropped the wimpy act and faces the old man defiantly, sneering at the Elder’s description of his side as “working to save people.”

The Elder explains that there’s the “us” who protect people, and the “them” who receive their protection: “Young man, which side do you want to be on?”

Jung-hoo is unimpressed with the Elder’s talk, but… wait, why are you fading and your senses dulling? Gah, it’s the incense, isn’t it? The Elder starts to blur in his eyes as the old man says he quite likes Jung-hoo but won’t wait long for his decision.

Jung-hoo tries to clear his head through the smoke, and then sees the stick and puts it out. Oh thank goodness. But the drugs have done their trick and he falls over, unconscious. The Elder leaves him in slumped in the room.

Back to Seo Joon-seok’s witness statement, which we see in flashback. Joon-seok sits dully in front of the detectives, emotionally traumatized from Gil-han’s death, and explains that “they” call themselves Farmers. As a trio, he and Gil-han and Moon-shik had been chasing the story for the past year when they received information about a planned truck shipment, which they took to mean slush fund movement.

Joon-seok describes the “farming” that this group does: They view the country as their field for the plowing, sowing money around to reap all sorts of benefits—political, legal, financial.

Young-shin finally gets tired of waiting and bursts onto the Elder’s property. She finds Jung-hoo starting to stir, trying to shake off his drug-induced stupor. She asks worriedly, “Why are you always sleeping when I see you?” He replies, “You always wake me.” Pause to aww.

She offers to take him to the hospital, but he asks to sleep a bit, resting against her shoulder and holding her arm. He asks, “Our fathers were very close, weren’t they?” Since he didn’t get to see the broadcast, Young-shin says that their fathers were loyal to the end, and recounts the events that we see in flashback.

1992. Moon-shik drives the car as the three friends follow the truck in question, and the mood is lighthearted with bickering and laughs. They think the task will be a simple matter of snapping a few photos showing the money handoff.

Upon arrival, it becomes evident that the situation is more serious than they’d anticipated. One truck contains large metal paint canisters, and another is filled with apple boxes containing massive sums of cash.

Gil-han wants to see inside the paint canisters, while Joon-seok holds him back. Gil-han just quips, “What are they going to do, kill me? A reporter?” But they accidentally knock over a bin that alerts the others to their presence, and Gil-han offers to divert them while Joon-seok gets to the paint cans. Before his friend can protest, he runs off and is quickly followed.

Joon-seok grabs a canister and runs back to the car, where he alerts Moon-shik to the danger. He tells Moon-shik to prepare for getaway, then heads back to get his friend.

When Joon-seok makes it back, Gil-han is already prone on the ground, his head bloody. Moon-shik arrives just in time to grab him back from going after the Farmer guys, but Joon-seok wells up in righteous fury. He starts snapping photos openly, and Moon-shik forcibly drags him back to the car.

The car escapes, and Joon-seok explains in his statement that he was on the run for days, and eventually found out what was in the paint cans. He explains that it was chemicals used in construction projects to weaken steel, and as soon as he reveals this, men in suits burst in to stop the proceedings.

Young-shin wraps up the story, and Jung-hoo sighs, “It’s over. The homework. For Teacher, Father, and you.” He’s free to leave the Healer behind, and Young-shin praises him for a job well done, Jung-hoo rests his head in her lap (…but… the Elder’s house…) and asks, “Living like other people—is it hard?”

“Let’s try it, living like other people,” she says. He asks, “You’ll be with me, right?” And she replies, “Of course.” He sighs that that’s enough, and closes his eyes to sleep some more, taking her hand in his.

Myung-hee prepares a nice dinner for her and Moon-shik, and her outwardly pleasant attitude puts him in a good mood. It seems she’s watching for his reaction as she tells him of watching Moon-ho’s broadcast and asks about what he didn’t tell her. He answers that he hadn’t been holding back from her, admitting that he’d suspected Joon-seok all these years, and the broadcast has allowed him peace of mind knowing that wasn’t true.

Myung-hee doesn’t like that answer (well, it is a blatant lie), and I wonder if she’d been hoping he’d respond differently. She keeps her pleasant face on, but looks meaningfully over at Ji-an’s birthday spread nearby. I do hope her suspicion extends to that story too.

Moon-shik retires to his study after dinner, and his mind flashes back to his first encounter with the Elder. And now we see what happens next: Moon-shik accepts that deal, and gives a witness statement to the police that he saw Joon-seok killing Gil-han. Interestingly, the first statement is given while he’s bloody, terrified, and shaking. The second time, Moon-shik is resigned and dead-eyed.

But by the third time, he’s crisp and alert, confident in his lies as he says that the money triggered Joon-seok’s greed. When Gil-han refused to keep it, Joon-seok killed him.

In the present day, the memory doesn’t even stir a pang of regret as he sits there, idly eating Ji-an’s birthday cookies, soul unruffled. Or maybe absent.

In contrast, over at the cafe, Young-shin and her father eye that cookie with reverent anticipation, both bummed to see that it broke in transit. Young-shin feeds Dad the first bite, and they marvel at the taste. Then Dad asks when she’s bringing “that guy” over, and she initially feigns ignorance (“Which guy? I kinda have a lot of guys”).

Dad tells her to drag him over, then sighs that of all the men, she had to pick one so weak and frail, always ready to cry at the drop of a hat. She dies laughing.

When she gets to her room, she’s startled to find Jung-hoo already here, having climbed in through the window and all ready for his hugs. She pushes him back to arm’s length and lays down a few ground rules about how to live like other people, which includes using front doors. And meeting her father to get his permission to date, which makes him grimace. Also, on his girlfriend’s birthday, he should give her a gift.

She holds out her hands expectantly, and Jung-hoo fumbles to come up with something. He gives her the necklace from around his neck, and she points out that it would be nice to get gifts that are new and wrapped. He tries to make it better by pointing out that his necklace has a tracker in it, but that just sounds worse, lol.

Young-shin lets him fasten it around her neck, and he asks, “Can I hug you now?” He grabs her in a hug without waiting, and she kicks him. HA.

He looks hurt as he asks why she keeps pushing him away, and she reminds him that he wanted to live, and love, like other people. He asks what this is, and she says, “This is… a little different from other people.”

Jung-hoo decides he can do things in the proper order, and tells her to wait. She agrees, telling him not to take too long. He notes the key points—father, salary—and she heads to the door to show him how to use it properly, only to turn around to see that he’s already left via window. Siiiigh.

Adorably, Jung-hoo then barrels in through the cafe doors, psyching himself up to get this over with. But the longer Dad stares at him blankly, the more his nerves falter and Jung-hoo mutters to himself that he can’t do it. He stammers to Dad that he’ll come back next time, and I love that he’s really not too far off from wimpy Bong-sookie after all.

Pickpocket Ajusshi enters just then, blocking Jung-hoo’s exit, and Dad slowly wraps his hand in an apron like he’s getting ready to inflict some pain. Jung-hoo says nervously that he’s here to give his proper greeting and get permission.

Young-shin hears noise and hurries downstairs, where she finds Jung-hoo in the study with Dad and ajusshi. Jung-hoo sends her pathetic pleading looks while Dad warns her to stay out of this.

Dad starts with the cafe kiss a few days ago, and just thinking of it spurs violent impulses. Ajusshi intervenes: information first, then kill. Ajusshi takes over the interrogation and asks how far they’ve gone, and thankfully Dad shoves him aside because I’m not sure that’s an answer they want to hear.

Dad asks if that soup was any good, and Jung-hoo answers that it was delicious. You’ll recall that Young-shin had called Dad for recipe instructions from Jung-hoo’s pad, and now Dad knows that Jung-hoo was the friend needing nursing all night long. Ajusshi has to hold him back while Jung-hoo darts around the room trying to avoid a beating while blurting, “I’m sorry! I’m sorry!”

Making this even better is the fact that while sounds of destruction come from the office, Young-shin listens from outside eating ice cream. As you do.

The mood takes a darker turn, however, when later that night Secretary Oh makes his way inside Moon-ho’s apartment. This can’t be good.

At the paper, Editor Jang alerts Moon-ho to postings on the Someday message board that offer information from witnesses who’ve met the Elder. It’s unclear whether these tips are legit, but Moon-ho instructs his staff to look into them, and they’ll follow up on anything that sounds promising. Editor Jang points out that they’ll be understaffed, which is Moon-ho’s cue to introduce their new employee: Jung-hoo, or rather, Bong-soo, who is heartily welcomed.

While the team congratulates him for his intrepid undercover work, Young-shin tells Moon-ho about Jung-hoo wanting to live like a regular person, which Moon-ho notes isn’t the easiest thing. Young-shin quips, “I think living like other people means not knowing what you’re doing. What’s so great about that?” She adds that Jung-hoo’s done being the Healer, laughing that she thinks he got fired. Yay for ajumma.

Moon-ho informs her that Myung-hee asked for an excuse to meet Young-shin again. As they talk cozily, Jung-hoo shoots Moon-ho the side-eye and steps right between them, just like old times. Aw, jealous Bong-sookie.

Young-shin starts to narrate an explanation about a friend reentering mainstream society, and we see Jung-hoo adapting to civilian life. He struggles to remain awake all day at work, which she compares to being a wildcat—awake for the hunt, sleeping otherwise.

When his first paycheck comes in, Jung-hoo calls in to ajumma to ask how much it was, shocked at the paltry sum (“But… I worked a whole month!”). He even wonders if he should pick up some side jobs, but ajumma reminds him that he quit being the Healer and wants her earset back. Then she screams at her screen—not at Jung-hoo, but at the hapless newbie who can’t do a simple task right. Ha, is she training the new Healer?

It’s Dae-yong, who’s in plain view of all the car black boxes around her. Dae-yong complains that there’s no street in Seoul without parked cars, and ajumma barks, “That’s why your hyungnim flew around on rooftops!”

Young-shin’s voiceover comes from her conversation with Myung-hee, and she laughingly describes how this guy is a teeny bit older but acts thirteen, which is why she has to look after him. Myung-hee guesses that she likes him, then leans right in to brush a crumb from Young-shin’s face and touch up her makeup, their rapport already comfortable.

The day arrives for Moon-shik’s live broadcast interview, and at the last minute, Moon-ho receives the alarming news that Moon-shik arrived at the station and announced that he’d be deviating from the script. This is equally disruptive to both the broadcaster and Someday, but it’s worse for Someday, who’ve lost their opportunity to counter Moon-shik’s interview replies in real time.

At the station, Moon-shik just tells Min-jae, who’s interviewing him, to ask whatever she wants. The Someday team gathers to watch, and Moon-shik starts by deftly fielding questions about whether he’s able to manage Seoul when he can’t even manage his brotherly relationship.

Moon-shik speaks openly of Moon-ho’s current activities opposing him, but invokes his own reporter past. He identifies himself as a member of the pirate broadcasts that have garnered Moon-ho so much popularity these days and even pulls out that photo to show on air.

Calling himself a journalist who once fought for the freedom of media, he says that he has to take his brother’s activities in stride—because that’s what he fought for. God, that’s infuriating. Moon-ho watches with a sour expression, and is forced to cancel their planned broadcast, given the direction of Moon-shik’s interview.

Myung-hee’s reaction is similar, full of impotent anger, and Young-shin takes her hand as they listen to Moon-shik talking about how the press frankly has too much freedom these days, and in order for that to happen, those in power have had to sacrifice a lot. Oh, boo-hoo for the rich and powerful.

Then he takes out the old suitcase full of cassette tapes belonging to Moon-ho—so that’s what Secretary Oh was doing lurking in his apartment. Jung-hoo has to jump in to keep Moon-ho from physically assaulting his television as Moon-shik proudly shows off the tapes and the old Healer zine as treasured memories. His smugness is maddening.

Myung-hee watches bitterly as Moon-shik explains the meaning behind Healer, proclaiming the press as a force that identifies and treats society’s pains, and he just takes credit for everything like a goddamned hero. Moon-shik turns to address the camera/the public, saying that he worked to protect the media, and will now turn those efforts to protecting the city of Seoul, “as well as this country’s freedom, democracy, and order.”

Myung-hee cries to Young-shin, “I’m sorry.” Young-shin doesn’t understand why, but holds her mother in her arms as she cries.

Sitting grimly after the broadcast, Jung-hoo offers to steal back the tapes, which shouldn’t be too difficult. Moon-ho points out that he’s given up his clandestine errand-running job, saying that he’d like for Jung-hoo to live normally. “But… are you okay?” Jung-hoo asks. He looks over at Moon-ho and says in joke-relief, “I was really scared you were crying.”

Moon-ho returns, “I almost cried.” Jung-hoo asks if that’s because of the stolen tapes, and Moon-ho just tells him to buy some more beer and come over, because he’s got a lot of things he wants to tell him and Young-shin.

Our Double S Guards make a reappearance, although it’s to get shoved to the side as the operation gets taken over by Jeil Newspaper’s Manager Ahn. I suppose he IS more effective than Sang-soo, who finds his office taken over by the brusque newcomer.

Min-ja has her eye on Double S and notices the movement, as does Dae-yong, who’s staking out the building. They watch the Jeil team leaving the office, and Dae-yong wonders why they’re here. Ajumma merely replies that she’s making the Healer a retirement fund, and it involves the thugs who followed him after the ex-cop died. It’s likely that one of them was the killer—but why would they be affiliated with Double S?

Dae-yong photographs the Jeil team, and the closeup of Manager Ahn’s face niggles at ajumma’s memory. Where has she seen him before?

The Someday staff stays late working their way through the Elder tips, which are mostly duds. Moon-ho looks exhausted, but rather than take a break he’s preparing for things to start soon (…more things?). He’s not sure when or how they’ll come at them, but he knows to expect something.

While the staffers doze, Moon-ho finds Young-shin sleeping in Jung-hoo’s lap, clutching his arm. He notes that the couple is being pretty blatant, and Jung-hoo informs Moon-ho that she can’t sleep around just anyone. “What about you?” Moon-ho asks. “I’m not just anyone,” Jung-hoo replies.

Jung-hoo asks about Moon-ho fighting the Elder now, and wonders if that puts Young-shin in danger. Moon-ho doesn’t know, and asks if Jung-hoo would like to take her away someplace far, where it’ll be easier to live as a normal person. Jung-hoo admits that he’s hesitating over the idea: “I think it’s because of you. Leaving you on your own and going away just the two of us doesn’t feel right.”

Moon-ho touches hand to heart and half-teases that he’s touched. But Jung-hoo says seriously, “I can’t be without her now. So if it’s for her, I could throw you away.”

“That’s okay,” Moon-ho says readily, smiling. Ack! Stop doing things that make me scared for you!

In the morning, the attack begins. In a flurry of activity, Moon-ho is hit with legal documents, including a summons by the prosecutors’ office. Then a team is sent from the National Tax Service, acting on the report that misuse of funds were used to buy out Someday. Fuming, Moon-ho can do nothing while they confiscate everything.

It looks like they’re going after Someday big-time, and Editor Jang wonders to Jung-hoo whether his wife’s current business troubles could be related. Her restaurant was hit with a health inspection and enormous fine, and the timing makes him wonder if there’s any connection. But he shakes his head, telling himself there isn’t.

Later that evening, Moon-ho pulls into his parking garage, with Jung-hoo and Young-shin not far behind, armed with beer for a friendly visit. The second Moon-ho opens his car door, he’s ambushed—gack! Noooo, not Moon-ho!

His attackers drug him with chloroform. Their cars peel out moments later, just as Jung-hoo’s car drives in. That strikes Jung-hoo as odd, and the moment he sees the dropped camera in Moon-ho’s parking spot, his sense of alarm spikes.

Jung-hoo connects to ajumma right away, asking her to track Moon-ho, and gives Young-shin the choice: come with him or wait in Moon-ho’s apartment. She guesses that fighting is likely and quickly gets out of the car—better not hold him back. When he tries to escort her upstairs, she waves him off, and he’s pressed enough to hurry out after Moon-ho. Uh-oh. I have very bad feelings about all of this.

In the getaway car with an unconscious Moon-ho, the Elder’s minions find his cell phone and hand it off to a motorcyclist, who drives off in other direction. Crap crap crap.

Jung-hoo therefore follows ajumma’s instructions following the wrong vehicle, while Young-shin waits for the elevator to Moon-ho’s apartment. Someone joins her, and she nervously looks up… at a smiling, smarmy-faced Secretary Oh.

COMMENTS

Well that’s certainly not a face you ever want to see, especially when it’s looking so gleeful. Secretary Oh should never be happy, because only bad things happen when he’s happy.

What a great (and terrible!) episode of turnarounds, coming off last episode’s euphoria of Team Healer pulling a fast one on the bad guys with such aplomb. Then there was all that relationship cuteness, and moments of warm humor, and promises of the future… and bam! We slam into a wall of darkness and unease. Dramatically, it’s fantastic. It’s just, as a viewer, I don’t know how much my nerves can take. I just care too much about these people, so sue me. *cries into cornflakes*

I was a little surprised to see the Elder storyline settle down so quickly after the live broadcast ambush, because while I knew that he would regroup later, I didn’t expect him to just… vanish and let the characters be happy and safe. I suppose that lull just makes the attack more painful when it comes, but it also serves the purpose in giving us a glimpse of life after Healer-dom, which I didn’t realize I wanted to see so badly until we saw it.

That’s not just because I want to see Jung-hoo normal and happy, but because there’s a thread of sadness woven into this concept of being reintroduced to society that I really appreciate. It’s amusing in the moment to see Jung-hoo’s reintegration foibles in a comedic light, but it also hurts the heart a little when you consider just how much of an impact his isolated life has had on who he is as a person, and how he reacts to the most ordinary of circumstances. It’s funny to call him thirteen and laugh at how he goes through windows, but then he asks in a plaintive voice why Young-shin is keeping him away from herself, and the reality comes crashing in: He doesn’t actually know how to react. He doesn’t have social graces. He’s always tired because he’s never had to be a functional adult.

It’s therefore just as saddening as it is amusing to see Jung-hoo struggling to adjust to mundane life, especially since this current life isn’t too different from what he did the first time as Park Bong-soo… it’s just that the first time, the job was the afterthought, the B-sides to Healer’s super-fly action movie A-story. This time, he has to live the B-sides as his main life, and the beauty of that is that this humdrum ordinariness is actually the goal he wants. Once he gets used to staying awake for a full workday and answering phone calls he doesn’t want to, that is. It might take a while, but thankfully, he’s got the rest of his life to figure it out.

I find myself flip-flopping on Moon-shik with every twist, and I suppose that indicates that he’s been very well-drawn on both sides of his character, because both of his extremes feel credible. Yesterday I saw him in a more sympathetic light, but today he went back to pissing me off, albeit in a good way because he’s showing more complexity and shades of his darkness, not just going back and forth between stark white and black. His interview was brilliant and infuriating in equal measure, and showed once more his gift in taking the truth and using it to shape the narrative he wants to present.

Nothing he said in the broadcast was false, and furthermore, you get the sense that Moon-shik truly believes his explanations of why he was acting for a good cause. He’s not just a good liar; he may be self-delusional about his motives, and that makes him a very dangerous character. It’s almost sociopathic, his ability to convey earnestness and truth in a way that’s just wrong. The Moon-shik of 1980 didn’t seem so bad, and the Moon-shik of 1992 (even after the accident) also appears well-intentioned and loyal. But there’s no getting around the fact that since then, he has made choices with his eyes wide open and is warping the past to bolster his actions in the present. That explains why Moon-ho and Myung-hee reacted with such frustrated rage, because he’s just too good at twisting facts into his version of the truth.

The explanation of the Farmers takes us in an interesting direction, shifting the story away from the personal injustices and into a darker well of institutionalized corruption. This is something Writer Song does particularly well (and reminds me of Story of a Man, in fact), and by the time we get to this part of the story we’re deeply invested because of the connection to our main characters. (As to the particulars of the case: I’m not 100 percent sure I’m understanding correctly, so correct me if I’m wrong, but the scene witnessed by Gil-han and Joon-seok showed the Farmers involved in a massive payoff that involved the willful use of bad construction materials. It turns this into a more dangerous issue than politicians merely stashing away illegal funds—that’s a bad enough thing, but at least not a direct threat to public safety.)

But on to Moon-ho, whose fate isn’t looking so good right about now. To be honest, I was never convinced he’d make it out of the drama alive, but the more he integrated with Team Healer, the more positive I thought his chances were for survival. On a symbolic level I argue with myself that it works better to keep him alive, as a survivor of this cyclical series of events that began in 1980; his internet broadcasts carry echoes of the old rebellious spirit, and because of his age he has always been smack-dab in the middle of the two generations, acting as a link but never quite belonging to either group. So he isn’t necessarily bound to the old tragedy, and I feel like an argument could be made for him being the way to break the cycle in the new generation.

On the other hand, recent episodes hint at his willingness to hurtle headlong into the fight without concern for coming out of it alive, and he might just go down fighting. It’s a lovely contrast to his earlier apathy, where he lived because he wasn’t dead, not because he had any great motivation to stay alive. Now that he’s discovered a passion to keep him going, surely the writer wouldn’t be so cruel as to snatch that away from us/him, would she? (Worried side note: She totally would be that cruel. It’s kind of why I love her writing, and also feel pain because of it.)

And perhaps viewed symbolically from the other side, it’s possible that the message for Moon-ho is that it’s more meaningful to live with purpose for a short time than to exist indefinitely without purpose. That links him closer to the older generation, most of whom met premature ends but whose lives were, as far as we can judge, well-lived and well-loved.

Aghhhh, basically I think this means that Moon-ho could live or die and either case is supported thematically and symbolically, and now I’m just scared. Don’t die, Moon-ho! Please?

It makes me sad to see a resolution coming without redemption.

Is redemption cliche now? Why must evil ppl always double down rather than just say "man, I screwed up. Im sorry." Is it so hard to admit that youve made mistakes?

I would think that to save ones soul, one would want to seek redemption.

Evil with purpose is still evil. And redemption can only come to those who want Healer feels. Just sayin.

Love the analysis JB. <3

@samsooki

Yeah, it's sad about evil people and that they do not choose redemption. However it is quite true to life. If a person has been used to choosing evil over good and over many years, then in his pride, he will seldom ever feel that it's time to re-consider, or take a step back to examine what he really is/has become. He will usually think he's doing just fine and no reason to change. He will continue in the habit that he formed ie choose to think himself in the right and choose whatever suits his purposes, even if it is evil.

Moon Shik is evil. He's ordered multiple people killed or eliminated (read: killed). Moon Shik's evil secretary is also evil (he's personally taken roles in ordering the killings, and even participated in the attempted murder of CYS).

Whatever the reason(s) that Moon Shik has done what he has done, and there could be good and plenty of those reason(s), they don't cover for what's happened now. So Moon Shik has to apologize now, has to get on his freaking knees and apologize to everybody for being a complete ass hat.

That scenario.... well, it's unlikely.

But why is it unlikely? I hope it is because Moon Shik still believes that he can win and make all of these problems go away. However, if that is true, then Moon Shik needs to be a little bit more... scared / stressed / anxious / worried? Moon Shik is a little to self-assured.

That points to Moon Shik not necessarily believing that he can win, but that Moon Shik is incapable (now) of redeeming himself. Perhaps Moon Shik believes that it is too late, that any apology will be insufficient, and that it won't make a hill of beans difference anway. If this is the case, then Moon Shik needs to be a little bit darker and ironic.

i.e., Moon Shik's character is neither overly stressed-out nor dark and ironic.

If I had a criticism for Healer, it is that I think Moon Shik is a bit too much of a cartoon villain and not enough with the range of emotions for the kind of things that he has done.

just sayin.

I agree that Moon Shik's character is still not sufficiently fleshed out for us to get a proper feel of/for him. However the little that we have seen show him as being rather delusional. He does not see anything strange in Myung Hee's ordering a bug to bug him, no less! To him it's like she's just playing a game so, it like he thinks ... "Let the girl play and she'll come back when the toy gets boring." He cannot see what is in front of him, that his wife is smart, has become watchful and is no longer a dupe. His delusions make him too self-assured as you rightly point out. This may lead to his downfall, and actually I think it will.

On his lack of apology: his delusion goes so far that he no longer can recognise that what he is doing is evil. This is why he will not admit wrong or apologise. I mentioned in another episode recap that first he needs therapy to realise what he has become, before he can feel any guilt and accept punishment as his just merits. Otherwise, he will merely be resentful that he is not getting his way, without comprehending the extent of evil he has willingly wallowed in: a very frustrating character, indeed, especially since some of us want him to have some chance of redemption.

Only the shock of losing someone he loves might galvanise him into some effective self-examination. We can but hope.

“Why are you always sleeping when I see you?” He replies, “You always wake me.” Pause to aww."

Yes, JB, total awwwww inducing moment. The layered meaning behind the "sleep" and "wake" motifs are so beautiful. This couple is too perfect.

I actually just loved all of the scenes in this episode of JH and YS taking turns sleeping next to the other person and holding their hand. It's like they don't want to constantly make sure that their beloved is next to them and that they won't wake up from this "dream" to be all alone.

Notice how every monday our roller coaster go up sweetly and then on tuesday, plunged deep down to the bottom? I cried NOOOOOOOOOO at the end of this episode. Secretary is getting creepier and creepier like a Evil Pyscho version of Healer, no problem appearing out of the blue. And i feel very bad omen about Manager Ahn who seemed to be more destructive than anyone else.

The ups and downs of a 2-episode a week schedule works well for the producers LOL! They need to give viewers enough Awwwww! and enough Aaargh! so that we'll keep clamouring for more!... usually ending with Aargh in the last few episodes will ensure viewership does not flag. Heheheh!

Another solid episode. This drama never fails to amaze me. Watching this is like riding a roller-coaster. One minute is lovey dovey scene, the other will be looming

That secretary Oh is such a freaking creep. It's definitely a trap to separate YS and MH from JH. It's obvious that the elder's goon was trying to bring JH to another location when they passed the phone to the motorcyclist. WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS CLIFFHANGER???? HOW DO JUNGHOO SAVE THEM BOTH.... NOOOO! I just want them to come out of it safely.... Why do this to them!!! The two of them was going to find Moonho and have some quality time together... And suddenly all these is happening to all of them. The 3 of them dont deserve this!!

Big sigh...How to survive the wait... and don't even remind me it's gonna be finale week AHHHH

I stared at that gesture for the longest time wondering :

1) was he thumbing his nose at Yoon and anyone else?
2) was he sniggering?
3) was he saying that "I've got a lot of secrets and I'm not going to tell you!"
4) or was it on purpose to hide/show a satisfied smirk to get a person's goat?

Maybe all 4???? :)

I was thinking that this story is so rich, there are several themes that could be picked up and continued, if only that were the norm for kdrama writers (the way we had Star Wars ... episodes that were prequels as well as sequels) :) Gotta go!!! Forgot I've a child to take care of LOL!

@ Growingbeautifully

Well, he got MY goat for that fingers-over-mouth smirk of his! That very deliberate, calculated, smirk he threw Det Yoon as he was getting into the car outside the police station was a right royal middle finger for the annoyingly stupid Det. That was Oh saying that the police can't touch him, no matter what.

The same smirk he threw at YS crept me out and left me enraged for he seemed to derive some perverse sadistic pleasure at the prospect of scaring the shit out of YS or harming her. As I've said before, Oh is a coward who doesn't even try to defend himself against another man but enjoys bullying women, like JH's mom and YS, and dares harm another man only through insidious means.

As for Yoon, I wish he would take his head out of his butt for a moment and go after the real criminals instead of continuing his misguided quest of getting Healer as he had tried to do in this episode. So long as he keeps his blinkered view of Healer, I'll continue calling him annoyingly stupid head-in-the-butt Yoon, thank you.

Rant over. :-D

I have watched more dramas than should be allowed for anyone and I have to say, Healer is definitely in my top 5. The writing, the acting, the chemistry, the humor/wit, the secondary characters, the suspense, and action. It's the whole package! And I absolutely LOVE that each episode resolves conflicts pretty quickly and doesn't languish on them for more than half the episode (like everyone mentioned - so glad the writers resolved the misunderstanding between JH and YS so well. "Did you do it? No. Ok, cool. Moving on"). That's how it should be done. Other dramas drag out conflicts that aren't really conflicts for the sake of a pretty scene or as irrelevant plot drivers. Here, the plot is driven by a true conflict and realistic, smart, relatable characters. Imagine that!

I also love that the story involving the Healer is relatively resolved. It would have been pretty predictable to have the Healer reveal be the big ending. But they didn't, they resolved JH's conflict with YS and the mystery of their fathers' death with two episodes left to go. That takes story telling balls and creativity. Love it!

Finally, am I the only one who thinks this but I feel like Detective Yoon and Double S's Sang Soo will somehow play a part in helping out our Healer team (btw, glad they finally fixed that typo, although I initially thought Sang Soo was so dumb that he just spelled Double S wrong). Sang Soo just somehow never came off evil to me, just kind of dumb and wanting to compete with Healer. As for Det. Yoon, I think he knows enough by now to be able to be on the right side with the Healer gang (whatever happened to that passport photo of the real Park Bong Soo that Det. Yoon printed out before Hacker Ahjuma got to swiping it out with JH's photo). Finally, where has Ahjuma seen that Jeil Newspaper hacker team guy? I wonder if it relates at all to her last assignment as detective, cracking down that big hacking job that she staked out days for while her son was in the hospital? If it does - man, true hats off to the writers for really knowing how to put everything together. It'd be so Charles Dickens!

I' m going to miss Healer when it ends. Totally looking forward to the last two episodes but I know I'll be jaded with every other drama that comes after this because Healer really set the bat. Based on how fantastic the writing has been to date, I have no doubt the end will be fully satisfying and will resolve all conflicts - not just about Healer but addressing the story, as it started from the parents,

You've said the very thing that we've been commenting on here for many episodes. Agree with all that you love and the fact that Healer has ruined us for other shows :)

Your take on maybe Yoon and Sang Soo could end up being helpful is a good idea. I only thought it would be Yoon who finally, (and now with Moon Ho out of action), will be shaken up to use his brains a lot more. Maybe Ahjumma will pay him a little visit as an ex-sunbae?

I found Sang Soo rather too limited and dull and do not think he will be of active help, but he might bungle something which JH could then take advantage of. :) That will be helpful too! :D

@Grnapple31

I really like your theory about Manager Ahn being involved with the last case Ahjumma worked on ! I think that it would be totally awesome to have her connecting the dots and sending information to Det. Yoon, since he should also know about that case. Then he would totally work with team Healer and he would finally understand that Healer wasn't a murderer in the first place.
And YES, I agree with you on the writing of this show. I also watched a lot of dramas (and sometimes dropped them in the middle because of the angst), and I was pleasantly surprised to have important matters resolved fairly quicly. Kuddos to the writer !

That's rite

This is the most "realistic" drama I have ever watch .
The character tends not to exaggerate with the feelings..all of the feelings is in perfect portion. Not too much but yet still shows how deep it is.

All of the characters (including papa chae, ahjuma) their action is based more to the common sense to face each situation.

loved this show...and i doubt if soon there will be drama to top healer on the "realistic" side. :)

How much do I love that now that JH and YS are a couple, they act like a real team? Both are equal participants in the relationship.

This is most evident in how JH actually acknowledges YS's personal agency and always asks her for her opinions on what they should do. He doesn't make the decisions unilaterally, because this is a relationship. It's a two way street.

For example, the first scene where JH asks YS what her thoughts are about their plans. He values her opinions and takes them into consideration instead of just ignoring her role as his girlfriend and as a person who has a vested interest in the outcome of this plot.

And then there was the last scene where JH asks whether or not YS wanted to go with him or stay at MH's house. He lets her make the decision about what's best for her and them, rather than simply deciding on what he thinks is best.

Of course I wish she stayed with him but she doesn't like violence, especially not when her beloved boyfriend is involved so her decision is understandable.

Actually I don't think it was not liking violence insomuch as she knew she might be incapacitated by it and didn't want to hold JH back (was how I interpreted it anyway).

But yes, they are the best OTP so far and I love how they always think of the other person first, and are totally real partners in his relationship. So refreshing!!

You are right, I just worded it poorly. When I said she "dislikes" violence, I meant she shouldn't be confronted with violence due to her past childhood trauma and the physical reaction she has to it.

But I also think there's the element of not wanting to see JH fighting and potentially getting hurt.

What really caught my attention is how the camera doesn't linger too much on our cute couple in intimate scenes. You know like some other dramas where a single hand-holding is blown out of all proportion, as if it's such an earth-shattering phenomenon in a relationship, when it isn't. The fact that the intimate scenes like lying on each other's lap or holding hands are not exaggerated or highlighted makes them so refreshingly NATURAL! I simply love them, and those two! I wish other dramas would take a leaf out of Healer's book!

For me, it's a bit out of character for YS to decide not to go with JH to get MH. So far, she has managed to go beyond her fears and apprehensions every single time she is faced with a barrier. And that's even the very thing that JH loves about her.

I'm willing to forgive the flaw with how Gil Han and Jung Seok got caught in the mess and died (as elaborately expressed by @KDaddict in an earlier comment), but this, with YS not going with JH, I'm not sure I can close my eyes in this.

Why would she go knowing her reaction to violence? She basically becomes incapacitated by it. This time it's not just going around with Healer, setting up a trap and closing her eyes when he's fighting off goons, this time MH's life is in danger. She can't take the chance of tagging along and being a liability.

On a completely random note, it must have been nice for JCW to film this episode since he spent quite a bit of it "asleep". The man's exhausted and having a chance to have your eyes closed in a scene (even if not completely dozing off) must be a nice respite.

I'm seriously soooo sad that this show is ending, but I always get sadder thinking that the cast and crew will be going their own way after filming together for 10+ weeks. It's like the end of an era.

Someone, please give YJT, JCW and PMY a CF together or something. *sniff* *sniff*

Also, I'd love to see more of Tae Mi (minion), Son Seung Won (young Moon-shik) and Ji Il Joo (Joon Seok) in future dramas/projects. :)

Anyway, I'm super happy he gave Young-shin that necklace (even if it had me laughing at the time LOL, I'm glad the stalking is also becoming a running joke, along with the sleeping).

Something I like is the continued relationship growth between the leads. It goes back to the differing dynamics in Young-shin's relationships with Healer and Bong-soo, with her acting as much the 'mother bear' as he is the 'protective savior'. It's a nice balance and it continues to get better and better, with their trust in each other finally solid as a rock this episode. It doesn't feel like either role is any more important than the other. And that's why Young-shin can smartly ascertain when she should step out of a fight, and why he let's her take complete and total lead in everything else.

I agree that it's quite sad to watch him having such a hard time getting used to living a normal life and I'm so glad that the drama isn't glossing over that. It's definitely one of my favorite aspects of the drama. Honestly, in some ways, it felt like this episode was trying to say that it's not what he's meant for, what with his passionate declaration to ahjumma towards the end (though that had more to do with the urgency of the situation).

For some reason, it almost seemed like Young-shin didn't think it possible for him either LOL. And it made me wonder if she would have actually been cool with him continuing his Healer work, even with all the strains and risks it would cause for their relationship.

I almost thought that maybe that was supposed to be a sign that he'd be returning to his Healer work at the end...just maybe with different ground rules? But, really, I'm not sure if that could work out realistically, or that I'd want it to (ok...a part of me does, LOL). I'd rather hope that he continue to use his Healer abilities when situations call for it. And perhaps that he find a job that more suits his abilities? Again, I like that they're not making the transition easy.

Required fields are marked *

They completely balance each other out. They're both the alphas and betas in this relationship. Their dynamic really is adorable.

JH's difficulty in adjusting to become a functional adult is so sad. I just want to give him a big ol' hug.

It really does look like YS doesn't truly think JH's cut out for the completely "normal" life, especially the routine 9-5 work hours. It's so dull compared to what he's used to and it's just not him. He needs to find himself and not be what others want him to be or what he thinks society deems as the appropriate way to live. YS loves him unconditionally and will support him no matter what since she just wants him to be happy.

I also think the show is setting it up so that JH can continue to work as Healer, and I don't see anything wrong with it. He carries out errands and doesn't hurt people so why not? Although there is potential harm, JH's the best of the best, as we've seen, so as long as he doesn't take on shady jobs, it's all good.

Plus, the pays much much better than at Someday News :D

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

I agree that JH is not cut out for "normal" life and I think YS was attracted to him in the first place a Healer because of what he did. So I really think that YS would be fine with (if not prefer) JH continuing on as Healer. JH should find his own path and what works for him and not do something that doesn't suit him simply because that's what's "normal" or what others expect of him.

However - here's the however, even if he doesn't kill anyone or hurt anyone what he does is illegal. Hence the cyber team being on his case. Hacking is illegal, "breaking and entering" both in the cyber and physical world, as well as stealing inforamtion are all very very illegal. So, technically, if the show wants to put on a preachy hat about living life legally then I don't think Healer can continue on as Healer. But, for my own love of the show I really hope that they kind of gloss over that fact and let Healer be Healer. Someone needs to continue to protect society and the truth. Maybe the writers can have Healer be more like a super hero type character and help the police crack cases. Can't see too much money in that... dilemma... Monday can't come fast enough (or too fast since I don't want Healer to end).

Divide and conquer? Is that the baddies' plan or did they get lucky that YS got out of the car at MH's place? I see CYS mustering up her courage and confronting Secretary Oh and getting her fight on or is that just wishful thinking on my part.

The "Elder" - is this a commentary of a society that is automatically deferential to age that sometimes it's to the detriment of the society? Respect to me has to be earned rather than be expected even if one is older. Obeying the elderly without thought can lose your life.

Also, if YS went with JH and it were a trap, they might have already planned it so that JH and YS wouldn't make it out alive. Either way, they'll be able to get their hands on YS regardless, this just happened to be more convenient for Sec. Oh, which was why he was so giddy.

0

@ siesta

You do have a point there too. I'm taking the middle road on this .... he is a normal human being with his flaws, two of which are being self-centred and impatient, so he seems one-track minded in going after what he wants. These personality traits could also be fed by his life-style of living only for the short-term goal/job. You are right to say it is empty and I find that sad. I'm still hoping that he'll show a growth in the direction of looking longer-term and thinking beyond himself and his immediate love(s), and to use his talents to serve many others. :)

Allow me to be cheesy for this post. Mother of all k-dramas. I care so much for these characters to the point that every word that comes out of their mouths, every gesture, every action... MOVES ME.

- Our precious OTP, Jung Hoo and Young Shin and their individual growth.
- Moon Ho's farewell to apathy as he looks forward to the future.
- Myung Hee fighting in her own silent and resilient way.
- The five friends' tragic history and Moon Shik's descent to darkness.

Song Ji Na. You have ruined me with these wonderful characters. What's so beautiful about this show is the level of connection between the characters that runs deep, deep, deep. The emotional attachment I have for them is no joke.

That being said, STAHP ET with all the ominous thoughts of Moon Ho dying. Nooooo. I can't handle this. :(

I really like the younger version of those five friends, I think they have the best times during those early years, they shared the same passion, they are really good looking (Joon seok's have beautiful pair of eyes just like his son JH), even the young Mhee is beautiful!

I agree with that. The way he narrated what supposedly happened from his point of view - from the initial jittery narration, to the next where he was sure but not yet quite and then we cut to the last part where MS is this confident man dressed to the nines.

Everyone? I definitely don't think that. That's never been what this drama is about for me. I think it's about this generation succeeding in the ways the 5 friends didn't, and in more ways than one. I think, for Moon-ho, he may succeed only when it comes to being a part of the final effort to take down the Elder and that, yes, after that he may die. But as for the others? I most definitely think it's about them being able to have the happy family life their parents never got to have.

Thanks JB for another fabulous recap!

I didn't think that this was possible...but I love Healer more than ever. How can a drama be this good???

I didn't think that this was a perfect drama, I thought it was just an amazing drama that I fell in love with because of the awesome chemistry between the OTP, some unforgettable characters and a decent story.

Now, my opinion of Healer has changed. I think this is a perfect drama.

Thanks to the Healer-loving beanies here, I have come to the realisation that this drama has so much more depth to the story and the characters than I had thought up until now.

I can't thank the writer and the director enough for bringing us such a wonderful drama.

No matter what happens from now on, Healer will have a special place in my heart.

I know I know , all of the actors in this drama doing a great job, KMS,CYS,KMH,CMH , Dad, Ajusshi, Ajumma even the secretary but what to do JCW has done something soo amazing !!!! I swear it's not just his good looks.

I am always like when a character goes through transformation, in every episode he has to portray a different emotion, and he never fails .

In this ep too, the 1st conversation with Moon Ho, like he was confused between he does even care or not?? If he cares then should he care or not ??? If he cares then he should do something or not??? At first his expression was like the tapes were even worthy??? But he ended up with an offer to steal them !!!!!

Next conversation , he confessed he is concerned about MH but still creating a distance giving him less priority ... Phewww. I liked it when Moon Ho said " it's okay to abandon him" but JH's look told he was not so "okay" with it.

And last, he just ran ani flee towards the camera and his look .... Boy you do care for him, even you don't know that :) :)

Ohhh... I was longing for the bromance :D

So, the way I see the Red Rust Paint is that it's likely they intended to bring that bridge down. My guess is you have two (or more) companies bidding for that bridge project and a non-Farmer conglomerate/chaebol won the bid. Then the Elders brought it down with the RRP before it was open to the public, but after most of the construction is complete. This would end up screwing that Non-Farmer Company (possibly a complete bankruptcy) and then a Farmer Company swoops in to take the contract and the credit, build Bridge 2.0 and become the gubmint's construction go to.

At least, if I was a subtle, manipulative, amoral controlling an entire country villain, that's how I would play it.

Also, Moon Ho is toast. But he's been toast from the get go. He feels so much guilt for benefiting from Moon Shik's sellout that he needs to expunge that guilt. The kids are having their chicken and beer (seriously, where is this in San Diego? I want some at...midnight on the dot) over his grave/urn.

also, in a corrupt system, a new project (in this case to fix the collapsed bridge) means more money going around because government projects usually goes through biddings which means more pocket money for the people in charge. the devil's circle goes on and on. it's actually a pretty common practice

Moon-Ho, please don't die. I know its toss up in the air right now and from a story-telling point of view, it could go either way legitimately. But No, please, my poor heart won't be able to take it. I already am having hard enough time already thinking that Healer is ending next week, if he dies it would be tragic for me. In my mind, the perfect ending would be a new group photograph of the Healer 2.0 team including Moon-Ho, Min-Ja, Jung-Ho, Young-Shin and Dae-Yong.

Thanks for the recap!!

Am I the only one who secretly doesn't want Jung Hoo to stop being Healer? Watching him trying to be a normal person was painful. I can see why he would want that normal life, but he isn't normal and he has these skills that make him an extraordinary person. Even if he isn't necessarily Healer anymore I feel like he doesn't have to be just ordinary. But I understand where the show is going by having him give up that life and move on from the past that for so long defined who he was. He gets to decide who he wants to be now and he wants to be a normal person with the one he loves.

Looking forward to Finale week. I can't believe the ride is almost done... it's been a great ride that I don't want to end.

I don't want to think about the ending scene but I am more worried for Young-shin's safety than Moon-hoo's. She's with the creepy Sec Oh for god's sake! We know what he is capable of doing and it might be too late for Jung-ho or anyone to save her. I don't think killing Moon-hoo is the baddies plan,(not yet anyway) because they could have killed him right away instead of kidnapping him.

@ Giegie
It's these kinds of wish fulfilment in the show that is a little stunning... really seems like our minds are being read or something. LOL!

We even had our prediction that Daddy Chae would really have it in for JH about kissing YS in front of him and that it would be the PBS part of him that would be displayed rather than JH/Healer. So many coincidences!

However, it's in keeping with JH's character that he appeared in her room through the window. Nice consistency in the writing. Everything holds together. One would think that because of this consistency, we can predict but we can only expect the unexpected with this writer.

And yes, Daddy Chae absolutely must be around to see JH do some rescuing or fighting!!! It will be a shame if he is only ever PBS in the cafe. :D

@ maryann and dramapenchant

It's a testament to the writer that she can make each cliffhanger more tension-filled than before. She has chosen the best way for the baddies to win ie keep the good guys separated or going off on fool's errands so that our hero has to face a most challenging situation, question his own motives and make a snap decision. Wonderful dramatic effect as JB says. Not good for our hearts but sooo good for the story. I heartily approve! LOL!

Thanks JB for the recap. Healer is the only K-drama I'm watching currently and it has not disappointed right up to the penultimate week. I hope the ending won't be a bummer like God's Gift, but I think this writer might pull off a good one.

I love how some explanations have been thrown out in this episode like why Healer jumps from rooftop to rooftop (to avoid cctv cameras....ha ha !). It's little things like that which gives me faith in the writer.

The acting across the board in Healer is good making us identify with the characters and grounding them in reality. This series will be my favourite for quite some time.

THIS is the way to rev us up for the finale week. Totally trust the writer. She's probably thought about the ending and planned everything accordingly from the start. They're live shooting now but I trust that the script has been completed for a while now.

I love the little details and explanations to things we thought might have been overlooked, kind of like how MHee's bug was explained in last episode. :D

From the very beginning I've been worried that Moon-ho isn't going to make it out of this show alive... and then they go and start dropping lines like this --> “I can’t be without her now. So if it’s for her, I could throw you away.”

AH! They can't!

My naive hope is that they realize how predictable Moon-ho's hypothetical death would be so they'll opt out of that and instead save him at the last minute.... sigh.... :(

We all know writer Song is good. Quite a genius really. If you've seen her other works, we know we're in for real foreboding. Even JB has warned us already. I'm still prepared to be surprised. I can think of one trajectory for MH to be saved. The brother may have turned evil in a bargain to save MH and so for redemptive twist to MS, MH could be saved. Though his TV appearance showed high very low he's gone. For what though? What motivates him? how could he turn back on his friends? Love for MS? Can MH be saved through MS then?

I am expecting a twist just near the end, hopefully gobsmockingly pleasant. I can imagine us needing a month to recover. Think positive; the writer may be reading us. Her bio showed she moved to New Zealand for a while.

Shine or go Crazy--another Korean king of old who went crazy in later life. There were a lot of those, evidently. In his youth, he did many wonderful things as a king, therefore Shine. Later on, he went nuts. Hence the title.

I really like the girl in it, so I watch by FF-ing all scenes that don't have her and Jang Hyuk. She gives me Moon Chae Won vibes. I love her. All my braincells are busy with this show, so I haven't even learnt her name yet. Seo...

Honey Lee was lovely in Modern farmers, not so much in this one. Her role as the evil lady, a rival to JH's bid for power wasn't engaging. But then I'm not in a condition to find anything engaging right now.

That cliff hanger just successfully pulled me out of hiding to comment for the first time. EWLHJFBSHFBGJS!!!!!
I'm really scared that Jung Hoo's gonna have to choose between saving Moon Ho and Young Shin... which pretty much means Moon Ho could very well die. And as JB said, it would make both thematic and symbolic sense so I'd just have to accept it and cry my little heart out for another one of the adult bears' sacrifice. And I (very highly) doubt that show would go there but Young Shin cannot die. I can't even imagine what would happen to Jung Hoo if she did. Jung Hoo's just started coming out of his isolated shell, and sweet as it was, it also broke my heart a little hearing him say that he can't be without Young Shin anymore. You can see how fragile he is on the inside and that he really can't take anymore of his loved ones leaving him anymore. So yeah, what I'm saying is HEALER, GIVE ME MY BIG FAT DIABETICALLY SWEET HAPPY ENDING PLEASE. I'll sell my soul for it. It's a much better cause than what Moon Shik sold his for. :P

Phew! This is tiring. This drama is making me so exhausted. But again, in a good way. You know, like when we feel tired but refreshed after working out? This drama is so refreshing! Not only story-wise, but character-wise also. I love the characters! I just want to hug them all and say that I love them :-D

Withdrawal symptoms already? You bet! And I got it bad. But I'm in love with this drama. So I want to trust it. Like YS trusting JH that he wouldn't let her be hurt. I want to trust this drama that it would not let me be hurt.

The finale is less than a week away. Anything could happen in two episodes. I sincerely hope that if there will be any more deaths, it will NOT be from our beloved team. I'd really grown so attached to them. I don't know if I could rewatch Healer again and again IF, in the end, anyone of them dies. And I don't want to NOT rewatch Healer! I'd already cleared my schedule to marathon it once it's over!

So I hope writer-nim doesn't pull a Snape or a Dumbledore on us! I will be really dissapointed if you betray my trust, Healer!

If SJN wants to wrack havoc around the world, all she has to do is kill off J Ho. Throw salt over my shoulder, bite my tongue, knock on wood, burn a talisman, etc. A lot of females will then be rendered useless and very moody for months, and their family will suffer. So if she doesn't want to pay for it in her afterlife, she better give us a HEA all around.
