Healer: Episode 10

It’s an emotionally charged episode on several fronts, so everybody brace your hearts for some pinching. There’s plenty of cuteness and crushing to go around, but now that we’re at the halfway point, feelings deepen and entangle and get more complicated—especially with more of the past surfacing to shed light on the present. We thought we had a pretty good idea what the deal was, but the show has made sure to peel back its layers smartly without revealing the whole shebang, which keeps the surprises in play.

EPISODE 10 RECAP

With the press conference about to begin, our stealth team prepares to infiltrate the heavily monitored hall to do some muckraking. Assemblyman Kim’s side is taking every precaution to control the event, so that the only thing viewers see is the politician’s polished image of integrity.

ABS has secured sole broadcasting rights to cover the event live, so they’ve got a vested interest in appeasing the assemblyman. In charge of the coverage is Min-jae, who directs from a broadcast van behind the hall, assuring her boss that her team has the event under control.

At the Someday office, Moon-ho takes a few cheesy promo pictures, and Editor Jang asks if he’s willing to take a hit to his hard-hitting journalist cred. Moon-ho recalls Min-jae calling him addicted to his popularity and gives the editor the green light to sell it all for the sake of their broadcast. Everyone will be watching in curiosity (or schadenfreude) to see what Moon-ho’s up to. So give ’em a show.

With that assurance, Editor Jang promises to do his job and create some trouble.

At the event hall, Moon-ho’s sidekick Jong-soo disguises himself as a service worker. Then Young-shin and Jung-hoo arrive, dressed to the nines and strutting in like they own the place. So when they’re stopped by the staff, Young-shin sniffs in her airiest heiress voice, “Why am I being restricted?”

Identifying themselves as guests of the engagement ceremony relaxes the guards a bit, but Jung-hoo’s large bag still draws a stare. Thinking quickly to distract the staffer from inspecting it, Young-shin lays her head on Jung-hoo’s shoulder and says pettishly, “Oppa. I’m about to be in bad mood. Do something.”

I love that we can see multiple layers to Jung-hoo’s act at the same time: He’s the Healer, acting as nervous Bong-soo, who’s acting as the authoritative boyfriend. He reaches for his phone to call his “secretary,” but Young-shin tells him to call the owner of this venue “before I explode.” The staffer hurriedly allows them through rather than risk his neck over offending some VVIPs.

Together with Jong-soo, the three gate-crashers hurry to the bathrooms to prep their equipment. HA, Young-shin charges into the ladies’ room fully expecting Jung-hoo to follow, and he does the same with the men’s room. He wins, and they throw on less attention-grabbing clothing and ready their cameras.

Moon-ho calls from the news desk to check their status, and reminds Young-shin that all she has to do is ask the question. Getting an answer isn’t important, since Moon-ho will be standing by to take over the report from there.

Jung-hoo steps aside to check in with Min-ja, who again pesters him to bow out before he finds himself in bigger trouble. She warns that he’s picked up a police tail—they’re sniffing around Young-shin, and he’s already been photographed. She’s got a bad feeling about this.

But Jung-hoo refuses to leave right now, even though there’s no legitimate Healer-related reason for him to stay. When she presses for an explanation, he replies that he received a job order. She knows nothing about it, and he replies, “It’s from myself. To stay next to Chae Young-shin.” Awwww. No excuses, just the truth.

Min-ja calls Teacher to inform him that Jung-hoo has “broken free of the reins.” Now what do they do?

Detective Yoon pulls the personnel files of all the Someday employees and orders them cross-checked against official documents, with particular emphasis on getting pictures of their faces.

Moon-shik joins the Elder at home just as the press conference is about to start, and they watch together as Assemblyman Kim takes the podium and begins his opening statements. Our trio sneaks into the hall by tagging along with a distracted official, acting like they’re part of his entourage.

Now it’s a matter of finding their opening. Assemblyman Kim begins taking questions, and Young-shin waits alertly for a chance to hijack the proceedings.

Moon-ho puts in a call to Min-jae, who’s busy monitoring the press conference. But he insists it’s important and sounds so urgent that she leaves her producer in charge and steps out of the van to take his call.

When the floor opens for another question, Jung-hoo shoots an urging look at Young-shin to take the moment, but she has last-minute cold feet and shakes her head no. Another reporter steps up to ask his preapproved question, and Young-jae wilts in chagrin, recalling Moon-ho’s reminder earlier to do whatever she had to do in order to ask her question.

So she bucks up the courage and sends Jung-ho a Let’s do this look. He starts recording as Young-shin steps up, interrupting before the other reporter has a chance to speak. She addresses the politician loudly: “You know Joo Yeon-hee, don’t you?”

Murmuring breaks out, but the assemblyman ignores her and the other reporter resumes his question. Young-shin is in danger of losing her opening, and searches for a way to salvage this. She recalls Moon-ho’s lessons, and how he’d told her to throw her shoe at him if it would hold his attention. So she whips off her trench coat and walks right into the aisle, eye-catching in her sleek red formalwear, and launches into her hard-hitting interrogation before anyone can react.

She lays out Assemblyman Kim’s association with President Hwang, connecting their shady backdoor dealings—Kim scratched Hwang’s back with construction deals, and Hwang returned the favor with women, including Yeon-hee.

While Young-shin is setting off this bomb, Moon-ho apologizes to Min-jae over the phone, admitting that he needed to draw her away for 30 seconds, and that he’s sorry it had to be her. It dawns on her belatedly that she’s missing something, and she runs back to the broadcast in horror.

Jung-hoo gets wrestled aside by security, but Young-shin is able to get out quite a lot of information before security gets to her. She turns to the wall of cameras to inform the viewers of Moon-ho’s upcoming report, then hurriedly signs off. Hilariously, she trips in her heels at the last moment, sending her face-planting right onto a camera lens.

Min-jae returns to her post and the ABS broadcast cuts to pre-recorded clips, but the damage is done. And while I have limited sympathy for Moon-shik in relation to him having sold his soul to the Elder, you have to admit it’s awkward for him to have to watch this with the old man, after working so hard to insist that his kid bro was harmless.

Moon-shik promises to take care of the meddling reporter, but the Elder points out that she committed no crime, the broadcast was live, and they can’t touch her without attracting notice. He concludes, “Kim Moon-ho has sent us a serious warning: Don’t touch her.

The Elder puts his staff in emergency damage-control mode, but they were unprepared for the internet onslaught and don’t have appropriate measures at the ready. The old man is so impressed with Moon-ho’s planning that he cackles out loud, although he must be fuming as well. Moon-shik kneels penitently and promises to find a solution, while the Elder decides they’ll have to cut Assemblyman Kim loose. Would Moon-shik be interested in taking his position?

Moon-ho carries the rest of the newscast, describing the room salon video they were given by a secret informant and showing Young-shin’s recorded interview with Yeon-hee. He closes with a vow that although Someday may only broadcast sporadically, they will not put forth “broadcasts that shouldn’t be made,” wherein people in power abuse their resources to cover the eyes of the powerless. He promises they’ll come back when there are more things needing to be said, bows his head to his audience, and signs off.

It’s moments like this that you understand why Moon-ho is as respected as he is. He’s so damn impressive in that moment that his staff gapes in awe, and Young-shin sighs with shining eyes.

In mere seconds, Moon-ho shoots to the top of the search engine lists and Someday’s phones start ringing off the hook. The team members are hit with simultaneous waves of joy and trepidation at what they’ve done, but take their cue from the pleased Moon-ho, who thanks them for their work.

Jung-hoo clocks the return of Young-shin’s hero worship, and she practically jumps to take Moon-ho’s call. (And, crushingly, she turns around to chat giddily with him, her back turned away from Jung-hoo.)

Jong-soo wonders whether this is a sunbae-hoobae relationship or a budding romantic one, half-joking that he might try pursuing her himself, while Jung-hoo’s face wears this… expression.

Young-shin is ecstatic with the day’s results, her mood bolstered further when Moon-ho praises her for a job well done. She returns the sentiment, saying, “You’re a better person than I had thought. I misunderstood you momentarily.” Ahhh, it’s uplifting to see how her words mean so much to him, even though his voice remains even-keel. He hangs up and murmurs, “Thank you, Ji-an-ah.”

As the three head to the car and load their gear, Jung-hoo clocks the plainclothes cops watching from a parked car. They look away every time he glances over, and he keeps his face averted while he talks to Young-shin, who’s stumbling in her heels. When he offers her her boots, she smiles appreciatively at his thoughtfulness.

The cops remain on their tail as they drive, so Jung-hoo takes advantage of the opportunity when a large truck gets between the two cars. Urging Jong-soo to drive off down a side street, they temporarily lose the cop car. Just to be safe, Jung-hoo pulls the car over and ushers a confused Young-shin out with him, sending Jong-soo off alone. Not a moment too soon, because as he and Young-shin dart into a building, he sees the cops’ car driving by outside.

At least they’re in the clear now, and to explain his behavior, Jung-hoo plays it off like he just wanted to go out for drinks together. Young-shin assumes that he meant to ditch Jong-soo and enthusiastically agrees, conceding that it’s nicer without the third wheel. She suggests a wine bar, but Jung-hoo has a place in mind and takes the lead.

As Moon-shik leaves his meeting with the Elder, he flashes back to the first time he’d been brought here. Against his will, it looks like, from the way he struggles against the burly guards who drag him in.

Sporting a bloodied face, Young Moon-shik glares as the Elder speaks of “growth” as the process of closing one’s eyes, then reopening them to see previously unseen things. Moon-shik spits out, “Lying to the world, giving false testimony, betraying friends—you call that growth?”

The Elder replies that this is how Moon-shik can survive—and also the woman he loves. She can get the best medical care and recover, and then Moon-shik can set out atoning or loving. Hm, so it looks like we’re in the direct aftermath of the mysterious accident…

Jong-soo returns to the office alone, grumbling about being ditched by his partners. He cheers up to hear that Moon-ho’s treating the staff to dinner, and as he leaves, the camera lingers meaningfully on the bags of Young-shin’s and Jung-hoo’s clothing.

On the way up to Jung-hoo’s secret spot, Young-shin pauses in front of the elevator, balking at the last minute. She makes up an excuse about the best bars being underground, but Jung-hoo keeps her from leaving and says that he likes high places, where he can watch people from above.

The wording sounds curious to her, and he explains, “I can see people, but they can’t see me.” So Young-shin musters the resolve and marches into the elevator, although once she’s inside she clenches her fist and screws her eyes shut.

Jung-hoo sees her reaction and slowly moves next to her, his hand reaching out toward hers. As soon as she feels his hand, she’s the one who grabs it tightly and holds on for dear life. While his eyes widen in surprise, she slowly starts to calm, breathing slowly. Ever so gradually, he moves closer and closer, leaning in to kiss her forehead.

But the elevator dings, her eyes open, and he jerks himself back. He leads the way to the roof door, but he doesn’t have time to pick the lock before she gets to his side. He stammers that the key is in his other coat, and Young-shin just steps right up, pulls a pin from her hair, and jimmies the lock herself. He’s taken aback, and she warns him not to speak a word of this to anybody.

There on the roof, Jung-hoo presents her with a makeshift tent, furnished with a couch, fire, and icebox. As they settle on the couch sharing a blanket, she asks Jung-hoo to talk about himself tonight, since he’s always listening to her talk.

But he asks about Young-shin anyway, and whether the person she’s waiting for has returned yet. She chides him to talk about himself, so he muses, “Then… will I do?”

Omg. Is he making a confession? He asks, “Instead of someone you’re waiting for who won’t come, how about me, who’s next to you?”

A pregnant moment, and then she laughs like it’s his bad attempt at a joke. But he continues, saying that if she wants, he can live the way she wants him to: “For a long time, carefully, by your side.”

She sees that he’s serious and asks if he really means it, and he smiles down at her, saying yes. He tells her to take her time thinking it over, but she says she can’t. Touching hand to heart, she tells him, “Right now, there’s no room in here.”

Oof, rejected. He accepts her answer readily—so readily that she’s surprised, though relieved. She comments that he seemed like a different person just a moment ago, and tells him not to be too hurt because his rival is formidable. Jung-hoo plays the part of disappointed suitor and tells her not to rub it in, and they clink cans and resume their camaraderie. (Then she pesters him for details on when he first started liking her, and why.)

At the police station, Detective Yoon’s subordinate finishes the background checks on the Someday staff. The discovery that Park Bong-soo’s real card bears a different face is prevented, for now, by the discovery of more pressing news: President Hwang committed suicide.

Yet more of Elder’s work, of course, engineered by Secretary Oh. A simple suicide note has been left behind, with no signs of forced entry. But Detective Yoon finds the case curious for how neatly everything lines up—the penitent suicide note, the list of crimes he’s left behind, the apologies to the women he abused, and the admission of killing Go Sung-chul.

Hwang describes accidentally killing Go on the train with medicine, slipped in his drink to help him sleep, and says he was haunted with guilt. That liquid conveniently turns up in Hwang’s desk, as does his train ticket from that day. How kind of the man to make this case so easy for him, Detective Yoon says sarcastically.

When Jung-hoo arrives at home that night, who should be waiting for him but his Teacher, all smiles. Jung-hoo looks at him incredulously, as we flash back to their first meeting.

Teenage Jung-hoo is let out of juvie and ignores the smiling stranger who introduces himself as his father’s friend. Teacher follows him and reminds him that he’s all alone now, his grandmother having passed away while he was in the detention center, his mother remarried. Teacher sold Grandma’s home and possesses the funds, dangling the bankbook before Jung-hoo tauntingly.

Jung-hoo calls him a thief and attacks repeatedly, but Teacher knocks him down and prods him to steal the book from him. So Jung-hoo chases Teacher all the way to the abandoned building he now calls home. He goes after that bankbook again and again, day and night, over time learning to fight better and smarter. The training is constant and relentless, growing in intensity and acrobatic prowess until teenage Jung-hoo turns into adult Jung-hoo, and focused rage turns to exhilaration.

But one day, Teacher packs up a bag and heads off for paradise, saying jovially that he won’t be back. He finally hands over Grandma’s bankbook and a phone number to ajumma, calling that his income stream from now on. He says that Jung-hoo becomes an adult today and wishes him well. Goddamn old man, that’s cold. You left him on his birthday?

Jung-hoo calls after him, still thinking it must be a joke, watching his mentor walk away without a backward glance.

So it’s no wonder that the air is charged now, as Jung-hoo faces his deserter with distrustful eyes. Didn’t Teacher say he’d never come back? Why did he never call once? “Did you not want to?” he asks. “Or did you forget? Entirely?”

Teacher says there’s a stone in his gut that twists in pain whenever he sees Jung-hoo. Jung-hoo asks, “Where are there so many people who hurt at the sight of me?”

Teacher holds out the old picture of his friends and offers to answer Jung-hoo’s questions about it. So Jung-hoo asks why his father killed himself, surprising Teacher, who’d thought he didn’t know.

Jung-hoo has known for years, though, having heard bits and pieces from adults who weren’t as careful about keeping him in the dark as they thought. So he’d asked around and sought out his mother, but couldn’t bring himself to ask because she burst into tears at the sight of him.

So he decided to keep it to himself, and that photo was a great consolation to him; he could see his father’s smiling face and tell himself that there’s no way such a man would kill himself. But his ability to believe that ended the day he saw the same photograph in the house of the man who framed him for murder. So he needs to know, because that might give him “a reason.”

Teacher asks, “A reason?” Jung-hoo replies, “Teacher, I have no reason for living.”

He gulps back tears and admits, “And that scares me. That one day I might just decide like my father, I should just end it. I can’t continue. I’m afraid I’ll do that.” Is that what his father did? “Did my father have no reason for living?”

So Teacher tells him what he knows: Dad was a reporter, and in the course of chasing a story, he came upon money. And because of that money, he killed somebody.

Jung-hoo reels. Teacher tells him he’d dug up every bit of news after he was released from prison, but he’d found the story suspicious. Jung-hoo’s quickly losing his composure, however, and declares bitterly, “So my father was a murderer, and I’m a thief.” He screams and kicks things, and even blames Teacher for answering his question.

Teacher faces him sternly and says, “Listen up, Seo Jung-hoo. Your father, Seo Joon-seok, wouldn’t have killed anybody. I know that. You might not, but I do. So if you’re going to get so crazed over it, find out properly. Who killed your father. I quit in the middle. What will you do?”

Over at Moon-ho’s apartment, Healer checks that nobody’s home and then breaks in. He’s been prompted here by Teacher’s comment about a sixth member of the group—the little boy who snapped the photo, who’d been like everybody’s kid brother.

Young-shin sits down to write the Healer an email contracting his services. She doesn’t know his procedure or his fee, but requests a meeting with him—that’s her job request.

Jung-hoo searches Moon-ho’s home until he finds the old briefcase hidden in that chest, inside which is the collection of cassette tapes. There’s also a tattered booklet bearing the title “HEALER” and marked as a first issue, dated May 1981. The cover page bears the line: The media exists to diagnose and heal this society’s pains. Aha. So Healer was an underground vigilante publication.

Moon-ho wraps up his work at Someday’s office, and on his way out he knocks over a bag—the clothing we’d lingered on earlier. Picking up the dropped clothing, he finds something in their midst: Young-shin’s broken cell phone.

COMMENTS

Omo. Oh no. He can’t find out before Young-shin! I’ve been so excited about the possibility of her putting together the clues about the Healer that I didn’t even think to suspect that Moon-ho would beat her to the discovery. It’s pretty great from a story point of view, but it totally puts me on edge—will he use this knowledge for good or evil, or if neither of those applies, at least for selfish gain? Will he let on that he knows, or will he keep this close to the vest and use it strategically? Of course, that assumes that he’s put together the whole story, because he may not be all the way there yet.

One of the reasons I love Moon-ho as a character is that I don’t actually know which way he’ll act. For everybody else, we can reasonably predict reactions or at least understand the direction of their emotions—but Moon-ho is smack-dab in the middle (not evil, but also not purely idealistic or naive either) and could swing either way.

For instance, he’s using the Healer as incentive for the police, and doesn’t seem conflicted at all about it—but then again, I don’t hold it against him, because he has no moral obligation to help out the Healer, just as the Healer’s appeal is his lack of moral interference in his clients’ lives. He has an interesting streak of idealism that seems at odds with his coldly pragmatic side. I suppose it makes sense when you think of him as Moon-shik and Myung-hee’s child, absorbing traits from both of them.

I did really love his execution of the internet broadcast, which recalled the freewheeling idealism that drove the original five friends in their pirate radio broadcasts. Moon-ho’s actions aren’t quite on the same level (he’s not doing illegal things or acting with their reckless vigor), but it’s in the same spirit, and it’s inspiring. I certainly felt he’d earned the awe from his team, because sincerity like that comes through. He eschewed the prestige and even his own reputation in order to present the truth, and although the process earned him some jeers, the end result proves the integrity of his motives.

It’s different from his brother, although the flashback to Moon-shik’s first encounter with the Elder sheds a more sympathetic light on his past. We still don’t know exactly when Moon-shik crossed over, but the timing suggests that Moon-shik had no hand in making the accident happen, and may have been injured in it too. No doubt he took advantage of the aftereffects, but even on that score he isn’t shown to be a scheming opportunist. He was backed into a corner, and if he was acting to save Myung-hee’s life first (and not motivated primarily by his desire to claim her for his own), then I can see how he started down his slippery slope. I like that it lends him a more pathetic air, rather than one that’s purely single-minded and selfishly motivated.

That rooftop scene was a classic case of Healer’s magic formula, because it’s simultaneously angsty while also taking the bite out of that angst. Jung-hoo’s being rejected, which sucks, but he’s totally being rejected in favor of his own damn self, which is hilarious, yet because he’s locked into his disguise, he’s not free to enjoy the flipside and has to feel the sting of not being the one she wants right now, and we’re back around to pain again.

Still, even as I’m watching through my fingertips thinking Ackkkfaksdlfjasdsalkdjf, it’s a kind of pain that’s enjoyable. Your heart feels bruised but you’re thinking, More please. It’s kind of masochistic.

But even though we know that the situation is ultimately “safe”—we’re getting our happy ending, right?—the reality is, in this form, Jung-hoo cannot be both Healer and Bong-soo at the same time. He hasn’t figured out how to be both men at the same time, and so, he can’t take Young-shin’s feelings for granted. The guise he is in currently isn’t the one she wants, and he can’t figure out a way for her to be with the guise she wants, so for the time being, he can’t be with her. Thus even though he knows she’s in love with (the other) him, his disappointment is real.

Which is why it was understandable (though surprising, to me) that he was entertaining ideas of putting his Healer life behind him. His confession was most touching to me for the way he was all set to give up that dashing hero side if Young-shin would accept him for his mundane half, because being that hero doesn’t really mean anything to him. Whose heart broke when he confessed that he had no reason to live? I see his falling in love as not only a cute romantic story but a way for him to find meaning in his life, an anchoring that he’s desperately wanted his entire life, without which he’s as lost at sea as that island he envisions as paradise.

Woohooo 2000+ and two more days until the next recap comes up. If we beat K2H's last episode record of 2300+ comments in just our 10th (halfway mark episode) when we still have soooooo many potential good episodes/secrets are left dont even want to guess whats gonna happen when
1. The secret about JH is out/when JH gets to know his father was framed for CYS' s father's death.
2. Confession scene between JH and CYS
3. The last episode
Wohooooo... healer for the win <3

I think it sounds very possible...since everyone here seems to be doing a count down of comments until we reach our goal. Looks like we only 328 comments left to go. It sounds very achievable I think until next recap. I'm gonna bet we'll go well past our goal if comments keep on rolling at the same as now!

No doubt about that.. as far as I think... we can easily pass 2500+ at this rate. Although I have a feeling that ep.11 is going to be super duper awesome, its the recap of the second episode of the week that gets most of the comments because we get 6 days to analyse, reanalyse and dissect every part of the episode until the next recap comes in :P

--International fan project for Healer update--

-Errrm, still need people to help lead this project
-Forces are being gathered over at Soompi in the meantime
-A fanbase name is required
-what will the actual project entail, sending of a gift? A bed lol? Fan messages? Comic strips of our very own Healer-nim? Ideas people, we need ideas, lots of them!! Brainstorm away!
-If we manage to get people to help manage the project from Dramabeans, then we'll lead it as a Dramabeans project, and if at Soompi, then a Soompi project. How does that sound?

im so excited now. I'm bad at coming up with ideas so i can't really suggest anything but ill definitely help regardless of what it you guys decide to do.
Comic strips of healer and fan messages sounds good to me. before i even heard of this international project, i was actually planning on painting JCW so that i could send it to him(idk how though. i don't even know the address lol) so instead of doing a solo project, id rather do a big international project. i can help with the comic strips. my arts not that good though so it might end up looking ugly...XD

Aww that's ok, it's the thought that always counts. If we go for fan messages, you can let computer software/programmes handle all the arty farty stuff. We were lucky with the Master's Sun project because we had a girl from South Korea who was part of the team and was willing to get the book bound and parcelled to PD Jin Hyuk.

If we can come up with a solid idea which all are comfortable with, it will be a lot easier to manage.

This is off the topic but I thought id mention ut anyway.
While doing this intl project, is it possible to sneak in another mini proje t withinwithin the project? Like accumulating short videos from fans to JCW so thatwe can send it the kbs2's global programme "a song for you" and request for his appearance.
Am I asking for too much? O.O

I'm proposing that we get the brain storming done under the new thread with Ep 11. I'd like to copy your comments here and re-post them at Ep 11 under sub-thread named HEALER INTERNATIONAL FANS PROJECT.

Will that be OK with you?

Finally just caught up on the show. I really wasn't going to watch it, but then the recaps were so enticing and here I am. It's worse because I start school next week and juggling the last half of this and school work will probably not end well. But, eeeeeeeeeeskajoehfhjfjao!!!! This drama...I mean just...man. It's killing me in the best way possible.

The good thing? Most of us on here also look like raccoons with the dark eye circles and lack of sleep, so you're not alone!

There are still people trying to compare Healer to City Hunter. One thing that irritates me the most about City Hunter is the way he treats Kim Na Na, hot and cold, push and pull.

I like that after Jung-hoo realized the depth of his feelings for Young-shin, he just went for it. Logistics to be with her being the only obstacle.

It's easier when he knows the girl likes him. (Hope we won't see the "I wish she loves the real me and not the Healer me" thing.)

It's harder when he doesn't wear masks. Doesn't even have to be "Healer mask." A variety. Change it up. One or more per date. Couple masks.

THIS. ^ Exactly the reason why I was never quite sold on the romance aspect in CH, despite my love for the show itself.

I've had enough of k-drama guys treating a woman soooo rudely, then affectionately the next second. Come on! One can only take so much after watching 82982 dramas with the same hot n' cold male lead.

Jung Hoo is like a breath of wonderfully fresh air. He doesn't deny his feelings. He accepts it wholly and shows it any way he can.

@Omomo

I'm at maybe my 16th kdrama, including a few that I dropped. When I start repeating, "This is not how you should treat people, let alone the person you claim to love!" is the time I begin to objectively evaluate whether to continue watching.

Also, please get some rest. Just in case this episode's comment count comes up short.

"Jung Hoo is like a breath of wonderfully fresh air. He doesn’t deny his feelings. He accepts it wholly and shows it any way he can."

Yeah, see. I think at episode 3 or 4 I actually didn't expect this of him. I expected the denial and the 'how can I, who only cares about being alone, actually like this girl?' etc., etc. I LOVE how the drama barely even acknowledged this stage. As soon as Young-shin enters his sphere, he's genuinely curious of and amused by her and almost immediately cares about her well-being. Once YS confessed her feelings for Healer, he realized soon after that those feelings meant more to him than pretty much anything in his life so far and that he wanted to treasure them. This is why I think episode 8 sent our love for him and the drama through the roof. Because he actually let his heart guide him at a point when I totally didn't expect it of him yet!

He did think, to himself, that it's not his style to run and hide. So I guess that applies to everything.

0

Oooh profound!

I've watched a lot of k-dramas with the bi-polar guy. At first, I liked the hot n' cold dynamic because I was like "aw, the girl can change the guy for the better," but now, it just doesn't seem realistic to me and I don't like how the girl falls for him while he is still a jerk.

One of my favorite male leads is in Queen In-hyun's Man, Kim Boong-do. He's super smart, straight-forward, and super caring from the start. When I saw this drama, I was just like "wow, now that is how a guy should act!" He ruined my ability to deal with bi-polar guys.

I've just thought of a few more things so will continue with my list I began at .323, and Omomo added to as well with points 24 and 25. Please Beanies if you have any more precious OTP moments that Jung Hoo and his other persona's have committed to being for Young Shins sake, please add to the list....

26. to continue to give Young Shin hugs
27. to continue making Young Shin's heart flutter
28. to hold Young Shin's hands with the 'Healer's strong manly firm yet gentle touch'
29. to continue giving her sneaky peaks with his puppy eyes.
30. to continue to lower his speech when talking to her
31. to continue allowing her to lead the way and protect him (as Bong Soo)
32. to continue to be true to his feeling for her as all three persona's, but ultimately as Jung Hoo the man and not Healer or bong Sook-ah the secret identity disguises
33. to continue being concern for her well being, stops the panic attacks
34. to defy anyone who suggest he leaves Young Shin alone, by continuing to be beside her as both Healer and Bong Sook
35.to live up to her expectations of the man she thinks he is and the man she wants him to be
36. to continue being jealous of his rival and Young Shin's first and long time crush Moon Ho

Who really is/are (was/were) Healer?

I another blogsite, someone mused that Healer does not seem to be an appropriate title for the drama. I guess she made that observation early in the series.

Anyways, in Episode 10 we learn that Healer was the name of the underground publication that the vigilante broadcaster team published. It's tagline: "The media exists to diagnose and heal this society’s pains."

So am thinking that perhaps Healer was also the collective name of the rogue broadcasters. However, in an earlier episode, Moon Shik muses that he called someone (in the team, supposedly) by that name. Could it have been Jung-Hoo's father?

In the drama's cover each of the three leads carries the caption "Healer". Does it mean that collectively, JH, MH and CSY would eventually form the new Healer team?

0

Required fields are marked *

And isn't it interesting that media being "the healer of society's pain" is also the theme of Pinocchio?

I found it interesting that two dramas are giving social commentary on news media at the same time. I'm wondering if it because of the Sewol Ferry Accident and how badly that was covered.

That hand-pillow scene, I replayed a couple times. The sweetness of it. I love how Jung Hoo is with Young Shin. He doesn't handle her roughly and without courtesy, like so many drama heroes do, but gently and always concerned. I hope this dynamic continues, because it's not often we come across this kind of male hero.

I cannot agree with you more!!

Jung Hoo/Healer is just the kind of man that I absolutely love!

In my humble opinion, the mark of a great man is in how he treats a woman - through kindness, gentleness, consideration, sweetness, courtesy and above all, RESPECT.

Not through roughness, brute force or aggressiveness.

So I really appreciate how the writer writes Jung-hoo, PBS and Healer - with the traits that are appealing to women. ;)

Thank you for sending those links on my wanting to know where visitors to a blogsite are from. It seemed the one I mentioned was just one click. How will i know it is the DB site that is shown on the map? Apologies for not being tech-savvy. Indeed if we can arrange for a time, we can have a virtual meet up and see where the Healer squee-ers are at that specific point in time. Imagine those lit up map points and someone can screencap it and make it an entry of sorts to a book or whatever might be decided later on. It could even be on top of a cake we can send to the Healer crew from the international/DB fans. Whaddyathink peeps?

We could think of an excellent name of award ( e.g. Best Actor ) as well a unique name for an award-giving body ( e.g. Healer-Ruined-Us-Awards).To make it more personal we could scan/email our signatures and put it at the back.

What da ya think? ;)

Hey Xavienne,

That sounds positively brilliant! Not sure how we're going to go about it just yet, but Growingbeautifully will be starting up a new thread on the next episode so that we can all brainstorm and chip in our ideas for the fan project. Be sure to join in on it - that way, we can all make a decision and put it to the vote! x

I've noticed a lot of beanies have jobs, are married, and/or have kids too. I suppose this puts me in the maknae demographic for the population of Healer beanies. I've said this before, but it really is great. We not only have a diversity of cultures, but all ages too,

I have a question for the married beanies though. When you guys are hyperventilating over handsome men, what do your husbands do? Have they ever gotten jealous? Especially now, with the JCW craze?

"So I didn't think of this, but Mama Ninja thinks that Jung Hoo did this whole confession because he was jealous of Moon Ho and wanted to make sure he is still Young Shin's current crush. I personally assumed Jung Hoo was trying to figure out a way to be with Young Shin as Jung Hoo and not as Healer... but seeing how happy he was after Young Shin rejected him maybe Mama Ninja is right."

I'm married, and my husband just mostly teases me about my drama obsession. lol. I don't openly drool over the handsome men right in front of him, because that is kinda rude;) I am full blown noona age being on average about 10 years older than most of the men who are in the prime of their career (in their late 20's). I only really get giggly over the character, and the dynamic between the OTP within the story line. For instance, When I see JCW outside of his current character I am not affected in the same way as I am when I am watching his character freak out over touching the hand of his crush in an elevator. Most guys that age, separate from the parts they play seem really young to me.

That said, this is the first time I have ever seen JCW in anything, and man, can he act! He is definitely in the "I will now commence watching anything you are in even if it's bad" category.

He likes dramas, too! I watch way more than him, though. He is in graduate school, so I have more free time! I watch lots of action/crime shows and romantic comedies, but whenever there is something especially good I wait to watch it with him.

We marathoned City Hunter in 3 days, so when I heard about Healer I knew we had to give it a try! And now we're both obsessed.

We each have had our drama crushes... his is Lee Bo Young in I Hear Your Voice :)

Wow! Your husband watches kdramas with you! You're so lucky! Did he already like kdramas before you got married or maybe you tricked him into entering this danger zone of no turning back LOL All my attempts so far to try to make my husband to watch kdramas had failed miserably. I guess I'll take the bright side: I get to fangirl freely LOL

I dropped IHYV after a few episodes, not because of the Noona romance per se (for I really enjoyed Witch's Romance), but because the male lead was still in school uniform. It was kind of iffy for me.

That's just an excuse though. Actually, I'm kind of allergic to Lee Jung Sook! :-D

But I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Lee Bo Young in My Daughter Seo Young. My very first ever 50 ep weekend drama. :-)

Yes, he teases me, but will sometimes look up from his laptop or whatever and watch for a bit and ask questions. We have been married for a long time for our age (17 1/2 years;) so he's fine with my obsession. He thinks it's cute I think. I don't watch too much American TV. It has become so smutty for the most part, that I am nervous for my kids to get up and walk in while I am watching something. I can watch most Kdramas while my kids are in the room if I need to. We both like that.

Completely agree with you on the part of American TV. Considering my values and morals, I personally find Western entertainment a little hard to digest, with a few exceptions. Just personally I mean. I know others who enjoy it, overlooking those factors and I'm perfectly fine with that.

The more conservative factor of Kdramas is a breath of fresh air for me though, and I love it. The slow pace at which the romance develops and how even small gestures become things to squee about. I love how kisses take awhile to happen and are few and far between, so they're not overused and yet we look forward to them more. I especially like innocent romances, which is why I'm inclined to the high school slice of life stories a lot of times.

*cough* Sorry, went off on a tangent there.

I find all you guys' relationships with your husbands great. Love how your husbands all wonder what's going on and yet accept it anyways, with some even asking questions (like your husband Kelli) or even watching with you guys (like MPC's)! :)

Yeah, I prefer the sweet longing (when done right, like in Healer;) to the bump and grind. Just my preferences I guess.

Speaking of morals, I was in church yesterday AM and all I could think about is that " I wonder what will happen in ep 11 tomorrow". >.< Terrible! lol

0

I totally agree with you. I am so sick of American shows pretty much saying that sex = love and that's it. I love that k-dramas define love so much deeper and it's not all about the physical (though I do love to squee when they get to the big kiss).

0

@crysta

I completely agree with you. I have how American tv makes it sex=love as the norm. these days kids always just consider sleeping around as a normal thing too, while I think it's more than that. Love should not be about sex and desires. I mean sure they are important but I just think loving the person purely is important too.

0

I'm not married yet, so I hope that husband at least is passionate about something media-related. I don't mind if my husband doesn't love k-dramas like I do, but he needs to have something that he is equally obsessed with or I will feel slightly bad when I'm going on and on (and on) about my shows and he has nothing to go on and on about...lol

Hi Skyofblue (had 4 hours of sleep! and had to open my eyes to check out what you beanies have been curious about so here's my answer!)
My husband tut tuts, shakes his head, and can't believe that yet again instead of sleeping or doing something productive I'm either watching Healer or commenting about Healer. He always has a quick look at the screen, says in a very resigned voice "Healer" again! haha.
He doesn't mind, because at the end of the day he is the ultimate number one man in my life, its ok to fangirl over a character and the awesome actor that portrays Healer so well, but its simply fantasy right! no harm done, not that I hyperventilate much, its usually in the form of clapping one's hands in gleeful joy of what's happening on screen between the OTP, grinning like a nutter and nodding my head in agreement to all your comments, or giggling away because you beanies put things on here that is too hilarious. My husband is very understanding of my KD addiction. I really should rest, as I have to plan lessons, otherwise come Monday my poor students will know alot about KD and Healer! and nothing do to with the curriculum they should be learning!

Required fields are marked *

Haha, my family gives me the same response. They just do not understand the magic of kdramas.

Of course it is all fantasy, the squeeing I mean- all only in the name of good fun. I had not meant hyperventilating in the serious, crush type sense. I was just curious whether they ever got cutely jealous and teased you about it. Lol, me and my imagination. ;)

You're a teacher Minihaha? That's awesome! As for curriculum, you could always teach the reasoning behind the workings of different drama tropes, and ask for papers on each trope, with in-depth analysis on characters, their development, plot, theme, etc. ;)

Do you teach a certain subject, or several?

I'm in the ahjumma range, having been married for over 20 years and I guess my sweet husband is used to most obsessions of mine that I throw at him. I get into one thing after another (not dramas) and get totally sucked in, but he takes it in his stride. The key of course is to also pay him the right amount of attention (and put up a very good front about the state of the home etc). LOLOL!

On my drama addiction, ... actually it's Healer addiction. I am not addicted to any other shows.

I may mention to my husband that an actor is good or that many of us are crazy about a drama or an actor, but I do not hyperventilate, squee or swoon in his line of vision (gotta respect the male ego, you know ;) ). But I do burst out in raucous laughter or remain grinning from ear-to-ear at times and he does notice. He'll come around and ask, "Commenting again?" and then slink off .... LOL!

I penned a letter for all wives in one of the earlier episode's threads.... I should go look for it and maybe re-post it here? It could be relevant to the questions you are asking :)

Cheers you all, we're doing great on the record breaking train!!!

"Episode 8 Recap, Comment 153.4.1.2.5 (Growingbeautifully January 5th, 2015 at 3:43 PM)

Dear K Drama Addicted Wives
This is a letter from your husbands.

Enjoy yourselves by all means,… but… do not neglect us (at least do not make it obvious).

Try to do all your k drama surfing, bursting out in wild laughter and rolling on the floor when we are not within hearing range or preferably in any near vicinity.

Wipe the drool off your chins before we catch sight of it.

If you must have pictures of handsome Korean males plastered on your phones, desktops or walls, ensure that you ogle at them only when we are not looking.

Be happier wives and come take care of your hubbies (you know, you know ;) )

Sincerely,
Your beloved spouses

@ Latewatch Omomo kay Chandler

Oh I'm so glad to be here again and reading you all!!! (As usual I'm doing so from back to front and bottom up, in case you're wondering why my comments seem so unchronological)

And yes this show has been amazing in bringing out so many first time commenters! I wish I had kept track of how many of us said it was our first time commenting. It shows that the community is warm and welcoming, because of such lovely people like you, who keep encouraging many more to abandon isolation to just join in the fun.

I commend all of you for continuing to keep the drool pool warm and moist and for flying the standard of our Healer Ruined Us Support Group. We couldn't have got to where we are without you!!! :)

I'd like to propose that for the next recap, we regroup/get together under a few Comment sub-threads which are a bit more organised. I haven't thought of the sub-thread names yet (maybe something like Countdown sub thread, Contact Us sub thread, Notices to All sub thread,... stuff like that). This will be so that we can just zoom into the relevant page and comments for stuff rather than scroll and trawl for hours in this labyrinth. What do you think?

@GB In theory, this sounds like a wonderful idea, but in practice, how are we to do so? I'm not sure, maybe I'm not quite familiar with creating sub threads on DBs, but if each page requires at least 50 original comments, how are we to go about creating the threads? Also, a lot of fans might not be aware of the sub-threads so it might either be really confusing and people will be commenting under the wrong sub-threads or it might prevent people from feeling like they can comment...just my 2 cents...

LOL! I have a clue to how Ivoire manages her great length with speed but not how she gets to be first!! LOL!

Our sub-threads do not need to be first, but only preferably on the first page to begin with. Then we'll always know that on Page 1, we can find the Main Sub-Threads we created.

@ dramapenchant

I expect that it will still be messy, just not as baaaaad as now. :) We make the suggestion and leave it up to Beanies to notice the suggestion and join in if they like. The Letter invitation will say it is OPEN to ALL.

When the numbering is going into the 3rd or 4th tier and is too unwieldy, that sub-thread can then be continued under a new number with referencing back and forth from old sub-thread to new and vice versa. Hope that will work!!!

We can but try at least for these last 10 episodes of Healer especially if we are going to keep BREAKING records of 3,500 ++ posts !!! If some Beanies do not take to this suggestion that's fine too. We'll see how it goes :)

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

@GB Count me in but like dramapenchant said, how do we do it? I'd also like to keep track of the threads and go back discussing certain theories or observations of the drama. All I could do now is remember the thread number but with me getting blearier by the hour, 'tis very hard.

Could we get Ajumma to help us?

0

Required fields are marked *

I agree that having the thread more organized would be better, but it won't be very strict, that's for sure. I think most of us who've been frequent on this thread for the whole week will keep to the sub- threads, but we should also expect comments in the normal sense too. So, I say we go with the idea. Have you thought up any names so far?

Required fields are marked *

Hi All
These are some of the sub-threads that I wanted to start to bring together my posts from other ep recaps.

"Welcome to Drool Pool With Updates" - which polaris has kindly and enthusiastically offered to handle.... will probably include all welcome msgs and initiation rites of newbies. Will also include Emergency Room procedures. I'd like to re-post here our checklist of things we have and need and the qualifications to be considered an addict. (have to go hunt for them!!!)

"Updates on International Fan Project" - to bring together those who can contribute and spearhead this/these effort(s).

"The Healer Episode Countdown and Comments Statistics" - just to have one place to check/mention for the countdown of hours and the figures of our comments and the record we want to break all in one sub-thread.

"Notes/Notices to All" - a general calling out to any who care to read our requests for responses for eg, asking who would like to join bla bla bla. This will not be the same as the Threads that you can start on your own topics, polls, surveys, etc. Feel free to start those too.

"Compilations of the Crazy" - brings together our funnier selected posts from Ep 8 (I think that's where we really started) onwards, which give newbies an idea of what dangers lurk in our Support Group Membership! LOL! This is tentative as what we have may actually end up being put under the Drool Pool instead.

"Countries Represented by Beanies Here" - just a list of places in which our Beanies have mentioned, they are located. Maybe can also have it out statistically just for fun.

And ... Etc, Etc.... What do you think?

What we can do on these sub threads:
If sub thread for eg. Comment 1 is on the Drool Pool, then if any of us sees a comment 200 that is relevant to Drool Pool, we just add a reference to it at Comment 1.

If we posted something elsewhere that is relevant, we can also add a reference to it or re-post it.

If other commenters give permission to us to re-post, or if they wish to re-post their own comments, they can also directly add to the appropriate sub-thread. Of course this may make the sub-thread a bit messy, but nevermind ... we are not into strict housekeeping but general collocation of ideas.

We can also start anything new on these sub-threads where they are relevant so anyone interested can keep coming back to similar or grouped topics instead of hunting around for it.

That's as far as I've got to at the moment. All your ideas and contributions are welcome!!! This is going to be a job by many of us. Each of us can also choose one or more of the sub-threads to "administer" ie be the main person handling it. That will ease the work of adding references to the sub-threads by just a few people. :) So you can choose what you'd like to do in the meantime too! Now ... Over to you!!! :D

I can, with polaris, take care of the Drool Pool and Notices to All. Btw, we'll also have separate discussion threads right? Where we do all the analyzing and thinking?

0

At a minimum it'd be nice to break things up thematically. It seems that a good deal of these posts are purely devoted to Beanies making social connection (drool pool, episode squees, are you still awake?, etc.), some are fandom related (International Fan Project, ratings impact), others are more related to plot and/or character analysis.

0

@ polaris, Skyofblue, Gidget
Thanks for thinking this through with me!!!

Separate discussion threads - yes, those will still continue as per normal. Beanies will choose where they feel most comfortable posting and that's fine, they can post anywhere and are not obliged to use a sub-thread. If they post something great for a sub-thread, we just make reference to their post from that sub-thread.

Thematic groupings - well because the sub numbering gets us all confused when it goes in too deep, I'm thinking not to have a main group like Social and then sub-group Drool Pool... It will add another layer/number tier that we can do without. So for eg. we could just have Comment 1 = Drool Pool directly without having to navigate from Social....to... Drool Pool. :)

We are not going to have a category for everything only for a things that we feel is good to bring together so that we are not taking aeons to find the comments. So things like squees, conversations etc are NOT going to be 'managed' by us. They'll continue to be free floating like now. Same goes for discussions on the show, plot, feels, analyses, etc... all that will not be 'managed' either.

We'll just have say 10-15??? numbers that we use for the few sub-threads we create. The rest are to be left free and easy as this blog is meant to be.

At each new episode recap, we will start afresh for the sub-threads that we find are viable and just let die those that are not. So every Recap should have a sub-thread on the Int. Fans Project because we are looking for support all the way through. But not every Recap may have 'Compilations of the Crazy' if there's nothing to compile. :) More questions? Ask away!

0

Thank you my dears for your ideas and questions .... no it's not going to be strict. IE we may have some headings/names for the threads to keep some stuff together, but at the same time, everybody continues to comment on any thread/sub thread as and when and where they want. Only if we want to check up on what great ideas, comments etc are on-going without trawling, we go to the named sub-threads to check if hopefully one of us mentions something of note.

So all we have to do is, if we see a really great comment that is appropriate to one of the sub-threads, we can make a reference to it from the same sub-thread. Of course if it is ourselves making that GREAT (ahem) comment, we can re-post it there for easy reference.

Hope I did not confuse? Any questions, ask away.

Have to come up with more headings but maybe free and easy, as the ideas emerge and as Ep 11 airs. *No stress*, folks!!! Fun and funny is the name of the game!!!
:D

Hi Teru, if a sub-thread is no longer relevant, it can end, however if it is something than can be continued for a while, it can/should be set up again in the next recap. We can just add a reference in the start to the original or previous sub-thread on the previous Recap and vice versa from the previous recap t the new one.

@GB, why don't you assign some of us roles for setting up the sub-threads, since it'd probably be difficult for you to get them all up by yourself. If polaris can make the Drool Pool sub-thread, I'll start up the Notices Thread. What do you think?

@ Skyofblue

You are another gem! Thanks so much for this.

As it will be the first time we are trying this, I feel that I should start the sub-thread and you can add to the explanation of what goes into the sub-thread - you probably have more ideas than me on what could constitute a Note or Notice. :) The rest of us may add on when we find something note / notice-worthy.

I found my notice in this Ep 10 recap under Comment 227.1.1.1.2 Notice to All Beanies Who Pass This Way. I was thinking of having it re-posted as a point on the Notices sub-thread. So I'll do this part first and you continue from there ... I hope that will be ok with you?

0

@GB

Anytime you're ready, Doc.

So, just to clarify... we'll just wait for JB's Ep11 Recap to start the thread, then we'll wait for your signal to start the admin works, yes?

0

@ polaris, yes we wait for Ep Recaps and then I'll put up a letter and start a few of the sub-threads, that will be the signal for you. You can immediately put in whatever you think is relevant and encourage more responses.

Yes, @ Sky's polls are definitely a to be continued sub-thread as not all of us have time to respond in one recap and can continue to do so in the next.

@ Sky, you can just start your polls without waiting for me. I'll only start a few that I've been thinking about.

Everyone can start their own if it makes sense to them :)

0

Sounds like an excellent idea! Since we'd have over 2000 comments again next time and with the site getting comments 24*7, it would be wonderful to follow the sub-threads one-by-one to pick exactly where we left off, in each of the discussions..

Thanks Sunshine!

Yes for some of these discussions that can be named, this is the plan. So often, we want to continue with a discussion or look for a topic/a person but cannot find it/them again.

A named sub-thread will bring together those of like mind and over the same/similar topic, and over time, the history of the discussion will show what has been said before and what can be developed further, so there is less duplication all over the place and more in depth discussion on each topic.

This is *precisely* the reason to have some partially managed sub-threads. :)

I'll just start the Sub-thread with a Name, explanation and a few examples and you can continue from there (and the rest of us will also add on our bits too of course!)?? :)

Ok, now for my share in this record-breaking attempt, not that I've posted a dozen already LOL but whose counting, right? ;-)

I just found the time to watch RM ep 212 last night, well, this morning, actually, 2.00 in the morning *histericallaughter* Don't get me wrong, I'm not THAT addicted to JCW to have to forget to sleep or anything *I hear someone shouting "denial" back there* I usually work at that time (hence, the name), but I just had this writers block, you see, needed a boost, and Healer is my booster LOL

And sorry if anybody had mentioned this before. With the deep sea of comments here, idk where to look :-) But after watching Ji Chang wook in RM last night, OMG! He's Bong Soo! It's sooo adorable! He's so awkward and shy and polite and adorkable! He's really not variety material LOL he just stands there and do nothing! He's like a lost puppy! And he's afraid of heights! Very different from his Healer persona. If I hadn't watched Healer before I watched RM, I probably wouldn't believe if people say he succeded in portraying a cool hot errand boy jumping between rooftops with various acrobatic manuevers. He's really such a talented actor!

Oookay, enough rambling for now. Going back to daily life. Got a husband, children and a house to take care of. But I'll be back ;-)

YES! he's a shy guy.. he cannot handle live interviews either, esp. on award.. he said it's just impossible for him to be MC.. on KBS award last month, the MC was interviewing him but then she even said "i think i need to stop asking him questions, he's about to cry already"

I saw him at KBS awards, and the one where the lady was interviewing him. And that Entertainment Weekly interview? I think I may have replayed that half a dozen times already. The way he speaks is so earnest, it really makes you want to pat his head or go "aww" and coddle him.

I saw that RM episode too, and it was hilarious. OMG, the part where Kwang Soo berates him for not lying and the caption reads "Innocent Chang Wook can't lie" or something along those lines.

Who else was shocked to find out he and Kwang Soo were both in the same middle and high school?

Just makes me love him more!! :)

Wait, by "see" him, I meant in videos. Not real life (unfortunately).

In the RM ep 211 that I saw, the sub said he did a drama with Kwang Soo (i think the vege bachelor one), but for the same schools, it's Kim Jong Kook.

JCW IN HEALER-VERSE:

Jumping from skyscraper to skyscraper = no prob!
Traversing rooftops like roads don't exist = no prob!
Rappelling down an elevator shaft = no prob!

JCW IN REAL LIFE:
Riding a rollercoaster = MOMMY!

Such a huge difference. But that's what makes him so hilariously endearing. :D

In his defense, that rollercoaster was seriously insane. I would LOVE to ride it though! (adrenaline junkie here)

Thanks for the sharing!! ;)

It's true tt JCW outside dramas is exactly how you expressed him to be.

Actually being a rather careful and somewhat sceptical person (a result of my profession), I am careful not to believe everything I see. So when I see JCW outside dramas, I did not immediately believe that he is being himself.

We can speculate whether he is just ACTING as shy, awkward and quiet but I think a person real persona will not so easily be hidden through the whole duration of a variety programme, where a person can be tested to the limits of his/her endurance.

And JCW has always seem shy, sweet, polite and humble in every interview and variety programme he has been in.

So, his character seems to be consistently the same and so I can say that I believe the person that we see in such situations is the real JCW, or at least as real as he has shown, or wanted to show, to us. ;)

Hi Kay (Fellow teacher *little wave*)
I too believe he is very shy person. He isn't out to blow his own trumpet nor use his good looks for fame and fortune, in an interview I saw, he said that he rather be an excellent actor and to keep improving on this craft than be known for his looks and ride the popularity wave of fame that way.
I guess it must be true, because he is an awesomely good actor, you can see so much with his expressive eyes, his demeanor or countenance while acting out his role, it is truly great to watch....this is the first time I have ever known about JCW. I never even watched him in anything before Healer, but like someones else mention before, he is an actor that I shall look forward to watching going forward. :)

Oh! @Minihaha! You are a teacher too?!

Hello there fellow teacher @Minihaha!! *waves back*

I highly recommend you to watch JCW in the drama "Smile, Dong Hae".

I fell in love with his persona in that drama and from finding out the kind of person he is from interviews and videos.

I could already see from that drama that JCW has exceptional acting skills and so I am not at all surprised at his acting skills in Healer.

I have not watched him in Empress Ki, except for excerpts of the drama and so I can't say how he was there but from what you can read in this thread, apparently he was great in that drama too, so that's another drama you may wish to try after Healer to continue seeing JCW. ;)

The fingernail-clipping scene. I thought Young-shin might think along the line of "pervert with a weird fetish." That sort of fits Teacher.

The impish side of me wants to see Teacher resurrect Healer 1.0 and Young-shin thinking that she's being crushing on, and kissed by, a 50-year old pervert with a weird fetish.

Hehe, after all, that was Teacher's original motive (when he was dressed as the cleaning lady) - get Jung Hoo out of the way by sending him to Australia, then stepping in so that Young Shin can fall for him, naturally!

They could then replay that rooftop scene where she asks: "Are you my biological father?" Bet Teacher's reaction would be equally priceless! Even better if Jung Hoo was watching nearby!!

There may be no cure but there is company! If you would like to join us in the Gutter, your Support group mates have set up a fridge in the back, so you may hydrate yourself since Healeria Sepsis causes severe dehydration. You may be rained on by drool though, so I'd recommend taking a drool-repellant umbrella with you.

@ J. P.
"P.s. Love your spunk ( this for all commentators here )"

LOL! our spunk??? Thanks for loving it ... That is the absolutest, minimally minimumest quality needed before rolling into this thread. Why? because ... with barely any sleep, with eyes blurr-ally bleary with trying to finish trawling all the comments, brain fried after marathons where scenes start to meld into each other, with emotions raw or drained after the roller-coaster of feels ... we commit ourselves to start stringing a couple of disjointed phrases together, hoping to not end up with egg on our faces.

Besides the minimum spunk, I (personally) also needed to have:
- a childlike blind faith which has been rewarded all round (Beanies are the Best)

- a certain degree of imbecility and recklessness (I don't know what I'm writing, but what the heck!)

- total disregard for normal life (normal life ... you mean such a thing exists?)

- sheer foolhardiness (runaway train? sure, get me a ticket!)

- patient and loving family (Ma, do you think we could have breakfast before 12 noon?)

Yup nothing keeps me spunky the way our love for the show (and probably love for JCW) does.

The TOTAL addiction helps too. :D

Has anyone scrutinised the KBS Drama Awards - JCW sitting together with Joo Won & Park Bo Gum? From the snippets that I saw, they hardly interacted with one another (unlike the table behind - Daniel Choi talked quite a bit with Kim Seulgi). I would welcome your observations! :)

Btw, I prefer JCW's hairstyle in the KBS Awards to the MBC Awards. He looked more dashing!

@ BedeliaJane

Yes, absolutely. I was aghast when I saw JCW with a centre part for MBS and sooooo relieved and elated when he looked fantastic at the KBS awards. Weren't they both held on the same night?

Maybe it's just me, but I hardly ever (if ever at all *think think* maybe never) find men as attractive with a centre parting as I do when they are side parted or even bald or hair all back in a pony tale.

(As an aside: I had a bit of problem with Jang Geun Seuk when he took to the too asymmetrical style of very short on one side and very long on the other. LOL! I was so distracted, I can't remember the story!!!)

But our JCW just nails every look in Healer, especially the swoon-worthy, debonair, chaebol, manly look. *remembering heart flutter flutter again*

I think the MBC awards was held a day earlier. It's the SBS awards that was held on the same day as KBS.

Did I get this right, Growingbeautifully - that you prefer bald men to those with center-parted hair?

I've just caught Kill Me Heal Me. Park Seo Joon has his hair center-parted... definitely not as gorgeous as he was in Witch's Romance. Can't think right now of any actor who looks good with center parting.

Yeah, thankfully, Healer's looking great!

Hi guys, Healer writer Song Ji Na just posted a back story of Jung Hoo and ruizaio@soompi has translated it for us.
It's such a good read, we get to know more about character SJH since not everything was implemented into the drama.

So now I know why Ahjumma has not known Jung-Hoo's identity before Teacher came back. It was one of her "rules".

I noticed that some of the lines in writer-nim's post were directly quoted as Healer's dialogue in some episodes.

IF my math is correct (and knowing me, there's chances of it not), we have about 20 hours until our deadline. All we need is 5 comments per hour. We'll surely be able to do that much. I'm fully expecting this place to be on fire tonight!

(wait, but again, is my math correct beanies? I was calculating the time for the episode to air in Korea, and with my time zone, that took a bit of work)
