Healer: Episode 10

It’s an emotionally charged episode on several fronts, so everybody brace your hearts for some pinching. There’s plenty of cuteness and crushing to go around, but now that we’re at the halfway point, feelings deepen and entangle and get more complicated—especially with more of the past surfacing to shed light on the present. We thought we had a pretty good idea what the deal was, but the show has made sure to peel back its layers smartly without revealing the whole shebang, which keeps the surprises in play.

EPISODE 10 RECAP

With the press conference about to begin, our stealth team prepares to infiltrate the heavily monitored hall to do some muckraking. Assemblyman Kim’s side is taking every precaution to control the event, so that the only thing viewers see is the politician’s polished image of integrity.

ABS has secured sole broadcasting rights to cover the event live, so they’ve got a vested interest in appeasing the assemblyman. In charge of the coverage is Min-jae, who directs from a broadcast van behind the hall, assuring her boss that her team has the event under control.

At the Someday office, Moon-ho takes a few cheesy promo pictures, and Editor Jang asks if he’s willing to take a hit to his hard-hitting journalist cred. Moon-ho recalls Min-jae calling him addicted to his popularity and gives the editor the green light to sell it all for the sake of their broadcast. Everyone will be watching in curiosity (or schadenfreude) to see what Moon-ho’s up to. So give ’em a show.

With that assurance, Editor Jang promises to do his job and create some trouble.

At the event hall, Moon-ho’s sidekick Jong-soo disguises himself as a service worker. Then Young-shin and Jung-hoo arrive, dressed to the nines and strutting in like they own the place. So when they’re stopped by the staff, Young-shin sniffs in her airiest heiress voice, “Why am I being restricted?”

Identifying themselves as guests of the engagement ceremony relaxes the guards a bit, but Jung-hoo’s large bag still draws a stare. Thinking quickly to distract the staffer from inspecting it, Young-shin lays her head on Jung-hoo’s shoulder and says pettishly, “Oppa. I’m about to be in bad mood. Do something.”

I love that we can see multiple layers to Jung-hoo’s act at the same time: He’s the Healer, acting as nervous Bong-soo, who’s acting as the authoritative boyfriend. He reaches for his phone to call his “secretary,” but Young-shin tells him to call the owner of this venue “before I explode.” The staffer hurriedly allows them through rather than risk his neck over offending some VVIPs.

Together with Jong-soo, the three gate-crashers hurry to the bathrooms to prep their equipment. HA, Young-shin charges into the ladies’ room fully expecting Jung-hoo to follow, and he does the same with the men’s room. He wins, and they throw on less attention-grabbing clothing and ready their cameras.

Moon-ho calls from the news desk to check their status, and reminds Young-shin that all she has to do is ask the question. Getting an answer isn’t important, since Moon-ho will be standing by to take over the report from there.

Jung-hoo steps aside to check in with Min-ja, who again pesters him to bow out before he finds himself in bigger trouble. She warns that he’s picked up a police tail—they’re sniffing around Young-shin, and he’s already been photographed. She’s got a bad feeling about this.

But Jung-hoo refuses to leave right now, even though there’s no legitimate Healer-related reason for him to stay. When she presses for an explanation, he replies that he received a job order. She knows nothing about it, and he replies, “It’s from myself. To stay next to Chae Young-shin.” Awwww. No excuses, just the truth.

Min-ja calls Teacher to inform him that Jung-hoo has “broken free of the reins.” Now what do they do?

Detective Yoon pulls the personnel files of all the Someday employees and orders them cross-checked against official documents, with particular emphasis on getting pictures of their faces.

Moon-shik joins the Elder at home just as the press conference is about to start, and they watch together as Assemblyman Kim takes the podium and begins his opening statements. Our trio sneaks into the hall by tagging along with a distracted official, acting like they’re part of his entourage.

Now it’s a matter of finding their opening. Assemblyman Kim begins taking questions, and Young-shin waits alertly for a chance to hijack the proceedings.

Moon-ho puts in a call to Min-jae, who’s busy monitoring the press conference. But he insists it’s important and sounds so urgent that she leaves her producer in charge and steps out of the van to take his call.

When the floor opens for another question, Jung-hoo shoots an urging look at Young-shin to take the moment, but she has last-minute cold feet and shakes her head no. Another reporter steps up to ask his preapproved question, and Young-jae wilts in chagrin, recalling Moon-ho’s reminder earlier to do whatever she had to do in order to ask her question.

So she bucks up the courage and sends Jung-ho a Let’s do this look. He starts recording as Young-shin steps up, interrupting before the other reporter has a chance to speak. She addresses the politician loudly: “You know Joo Yeon-hee, don’t you?”

Murmuring breaks out, but the assemblyman ignores her and the other reporter resumes his question. Young-shin is in danger of losing her opening, and searches for a way to salvage this. She recalls Moon-ho’s lessons, and how he’d told her to throw her shoe at him if it would hold his attention. So she whips off her trench coat and walks right into the aisle, eye-catching in her sleek red formalwear, and launches into her hard-hitting interrogation before anyone can react.

She lays out Assemblyman Kim’s association with President Hwang, connecting their shady backdoor dealings—Kim scratched Hwang’s back with construction deals, and Hwang returned the favor with women, including Yeon-hee.

While Young-shin is setting off this bomb, Moon-ho apologizes to Min-jae over the phone, admitting that he needed to draw her away for 30 seconds, and that he’s sorry it had to be her. It dawns on her belatedly that she’s missing something, and she runs back to the broadcast in horror.

Jung-hoo gets wrestled aside by security, but Young-shin is able to get out quite a lot of information before security gets to her. She turns to the wall of cameras to inform the viewers of Moon-ho’s upcoming report, then hurriedly signs off. Hilariously, she trips in her heels at the last moment, sending her face-planting right onto a camera lens.

Min-jae returns to her post and the ABS broadcast cuts to pre-recorded clips, but the damage is done. And while I have limited sympathy for Moon-shik in relation to him having sold his soul to the Elder, you have to admit it’s awkward for him to have to watch this with the old man, after working so hard to insist that his kid bro was harmless.

Moon-shik promises to take care of the meddling reporter, but the Elder points out that she committed no crime, the broadcast was live, and they can’t touch her without attracting notice. He concludes, “Kim Moon-ho has sent us a serious warning: Don’t touch her.

The Elder puts his staff in emergency damage-control mode, but they were unprepared for the internet onslaught and don’t have appropriate measures at the ready. The old man is so impressed with Moon-ho’s planning that he cackles out loud, although he must be fuming as well. Moon-shik kneels penitently and promises to find a solution, while the Elder decides they’ll have to cut Assemblyman Kim loose. Would Moon-shik be interested in taking his position?

Moon-ho carries the rest of the newscast, describing the room salon video they were given by a secret informant and showing Young-shin’s recorded interview with Yeon-hee. He closes with a vow that although Someday may only broadcast sporadically, they will not put forth “broadcasts that shouldn’t be made,” wherein people in power abuse their resources to cover the eyes of the powerless. He promises they’ll come back when there are more things needing to be said, bows his head to his audience, and signs off.

It’s moments like this that you understand why Moon-ho is as respected as he is. He’s so damn impressive in that moment that his staff gapes in awe, and Young-shin sighs with shining eyes.

In mere seconds, Moon-ho shoots to the top of the search engine lists and Someday’s phones start ringing off the hook. The team members are hit with simultaneous waves of joy and trepidation at what they’ve done, but take their cue from the pleased Moon-ho, who thanks them for their work.

Jung-hoo clocks the return of Young-shin’s hero worship, and she practically jumps to take Moon-ho’s call. (And, crushingly, she turns around to chat giddily with him, her back turned away from Jung-hoo.)

Jong-soo wonders whether this is a sunbae-hoobae relationship or a budding romantic one, half-joking that he might try pursuing her himself, while Jung-hoo’s face wears this… expression.

Young-shin is ecstatic with the day’s results, her mood bolstered further when Moon-ho praises her for a job well done. She returns the sentiment, saying, “You’re a better person than I had thought. I misunderstood you momentarily.” Ahhh, it’s uplifting to see how her words mean so much to him, even though his voice remains even-keel. He hangs up and murmurs, “Thank you, Ji-an-ah.”

As the three head to the car and load their gear, Jung-hoo clocks the plainclothes cops watching from a parked car. They look away every time he glances over, and he keeps his face averted while he talks to Young-shin, who’s stumbling in her heels. When he offers her her boots, she smiles appreciatively at his thoughtfulness.

The cops remain on their tail as they drive, so Jung-hoo takes advantage of the opportunity when a large truck gets between the two cars. Urging Jong-soo to drive off down a side street, they temporarily lose the cop car. Just to be safe, Jung-hoo pulls the car over and ushers a confused Young-shin out with him, sending Jong-soo off alone. Not a moment too soon, because as he and Young-shin dart into a building, he sees the cops’ car driving by outside.

At least they’re in the clear now, and to explain his behavior, Jung-hoo plays it off like he just wanted to go out for drinks together. Young-shin assumes that he meant to ditch Jong-soo and enthusiastically agrees, conceding that it’s nicer without the third wheel. She suggests a wine bar, but Jung-hoo has a place in mind and takes the lead.

As Moon-shik leaves his meeting with the Elder, he flashes back to the first time he’d been brought here. Against his will, it looks like, from the way he struggles against the burly guards who drag him in.

Sporting a bloodied face, Young Moon-shik glares as the Elder speaks of “growth” as the process of closing one’s eyes, then reopening them to see previously unseen things. Moon-shik spits out, “Lying to the world, giving false testimony, betraying friends—you call that growth?”

The Elder replies that this is how Moon-shik can survive—and also the woman he loves. She can get the best medical care and recover, and then Moon-shik can set out atoning or loving. Hm, so it looks like we’re in the direct aftermath of the mysterious accident…

Jong-soo returns to the office alone, grumbling about being ditched by his partners. He cheers up to hear that Moon-ho’s treating the staff to dinner, and as he leaves, the camera lingers meaningfully on the bags of Young-shin’s and Jung-hoo’s clothing.

On the way up to Jung-hoo’s secret spot, Young-shin pauses in front of the elevator, balking at the last minute. She makes up an excuse about the best bars being underground, but Jung-hoo keeps her from leaving and says that he likes high places, where he can watch people from above.

The wording sounds curious to her, and he explains, “I can see people, but they can’t see me.” So Young-shin musters the resolve and marches into the elevator, although once she’s inside she clenches her fist and screws her eyes shut.

Jung-hoo sees her reaction and slowly moves next to her, his hand reaching out toward hers. As soon as she feels his hand, she’s the one who grabs it tightly and holds on for dear life. While his eyes widen in surprise, she slowly starts to calm, breathing slowly. Ever so gradually, he moves closer and closer, leaning in to kiss her forehead.

But the elevator dings, her eyes open, and he jerks himself back. He leads the way to the roof door, but he doesn’t have time to pick the lock before she gets to his side. He stammers that the key is in his other coat, and Young-shin just steps right up, pulls a pin from her hair, and jimmies the lock herself. He’s taken aback, and she warns him not to speak a word of this to anybody.

There on the roof, Jung-hoo presents her with a makeshift tent, furnished with a couch, fire, and icebox. As they settle on the couch sharing a blanket, she asks Jung-hoo to talk about himself tonight, since he’s always listening to her talk.

But he asks about Young-shin anyway, and whether the person she’s waiting for has returned yet. She chides him to talk about himself, so he muses, “Then… will I do?”

Omg. Is he making a confession? He asks, “Instead of someone you’re waiting for who won’t come, how about me, who’s next to you?”

A pregnant moment, and then she laughs like it’s his bad attempt at a joke. But he continues, saying that if she wants, he can live the way she wants him to: “For a long time, carefully, by your side.”

She sees that he’s serious and asks if he really means it, and he smiles down at her, saying yes. He tells her to take her time thinking it over, but she says she can’t. Touching hand to heart, she tells him, “Right now, there’s no room in here.”

Oof, rejected. He accepts her answer readily—so readily that she’s surprised, though relieved. She comments that he seemed like a different person just a moment ago, and tells him not to be too hurt because his rival is formidable. Jung-hoo plays the part of disappointed suitor and tells her not to rub it in, and they clink cans and resume their camaraderie. (Then she pesters him for details on when he first started liking her, and why.)

At the police station, Detective Yoon’s subordinate finishes the background checks on the Someday staff. The discovery that Park Bong-soo’s real card bears a different face is prevented, for now, by the discovery of more pressing news: President Hwang committed suicide.

Yet more of Elder’s work, of course, engineered by Secretary Oh. A simple suicide note has been left behind, with no signs of forced entry. But Detective Yoon finds the case curious for how neatly everything lines up—the penitent suicide note, the list of crimes he’s left behind, the apologies to the women he abused, and the admission of killing Go Sung-chul.

Hwang describes accidentally killing Go on the train with medicine, slipped in his drink to help him sleep, and says he was haunted with guilt. That liquid conveniently turns up in Hwang’s desk, as does his train ticket from that day. How kind of the man to make this case so easy for him, Detective Yoon says sarcastically.

When Jung-hoo arrives at home that night, who should be waiting for him but his Teacher, all smiles. Jung-hoo looks at him incredulously, as we flash back to their first meeting.

Teenage Jung-hoo is let out of juvie and ignores the smiling stranger who introduces himself as his father’s friend. Teacher follows him and reminds him that he’s all alone now, his grandmother having passed away while he was in the detention center, his mother remarried. Teacher sold Grandma’s home and possesses the funds, dangling the bankbook before Jung-hoo tauntingly.

Jung-hoo calls him a thief and attacks repeatedly, but Teacher knocks him down and prods him to steal the book from him. So Jung-hoo chases Teacher all the way to the abandoned building he now calls home. He goes after that bankbook again and again, day and night, over time learning to fight better and smarter. The training is constant and relentless, growing in intensity and acrobatic prowess until teenage Jung-hoo turns into adult Jung-hoo, and focused rage turns to exhilaration.

But one day, Teacher packs up a bag and heads off for paradise, saying jovially that he won’t be back. He finally hands over Grandma’s bankbook and a phone number to ajumma, calling that his income stream from now on. He says that Jung-hoo becomes an adult today and wishes him well. Goddamn old man, that’s cold. You left him on his birthday?

Jung-hoo calls after him, still thinking it must be a joke, watching his mentor walk away without a backward glance.

So it’s no wonder that the air is charged now, as Jung-hoo faces his deserter with distrustful eyes. Didn’t Teacher say he’d never come back? Why did he never call once? “Did you not want to?” he asks. “Or did you forget? Entirely?”

Teacher says there’s a stone in his gut that twists in pain whenever he sees Jung-hoo. Jung-hoo asks, “Where are there so many people who hurt at the sight of me?”

Teacher holds out the old picture of his friends and offers to answer Jung-hoo’s questions about it. So Jung-hoo asks why his father killed himself, surprising Teacher, who’d thought he didn’t know.

Jung-hoo has known for years, though, having heard bits and pieces from adults who weren’t as careful about keeping him in the dark as they thought. So he’d asked around and sought out his mother, but couldn’t bring himself to ask because she burst into tears at the sight of him.

So he decided to keep it to himself, and that photo was a great consolation to him; he could see his father’s smiling face and tell himself that there’s no way such a man would kill himself. But his ability to believe that ended the day he saw the same photograph in the house of the man who framed him for murder. So he needs to know, because that might give him “a reason.”

Teacher asks, “A reason?” Jung-hoo replies, “Teacher, I have no reason for living.”

He gulps back tears and admits, “And that scares me. That one day I might just decide like my father, I should just end it. I can’t continue. I’m afraid I’ll do that.” Is that what his father did? “Did my father have no reason for living?”

So Teacher tells him what he knows: Dad was a reporter, and in the course of chasing a story, he came upon money. And because of that money, he killed somebody.

Jung-hoo reels. Teacher tells him he’d dug up every bit of news after he was released from prison, but he’d found the story suspicious. Jung-hoo’s quickly losing his composure, however, and declares bitterly, “So my father was a murderer, and I’m a thief.” He screams and kicks things, and even blames Teacher for answering his question.

Teacher faces him sternly and says, “Listen up, Seo Jung-hoo. Your father, Seo Joon-seok, wouldn’t have killed anybody. I know that. You might not, but I do. So if you’re going to get so crazed over it, find out properly. Who killed your father. I quit in the middle. What will you do?”

Over at Moon-ho’s apartment, Healer checks that nobody’s home and then breaks in. He’s been prompted here by Teacher’s comment about a sixth member of the group—the little boy who snapped the photo, who’d been like everybody’s kid brother.

Young-shin sits down to write the Healer an email contracting his services. She doesn’t know his procedure or his fee, but requests a meeting with him—that’s her job request.

Jung-hoo searches Moon-ho’s home until he finds the old briefcase hidden in that chest, inside which is the collection of cassette tapes. There’s also a tattered booklet bearing the title “HEALER” and marked as a first issue, dated May 1981. The cover page bears the line: The media exists to diagnose and heal this society’s pains. Aha. So Healer was an underground vigilante publication.

Moon-ho wraps up his work at Someday’s office, and on his way out he knocks over a bag—the clothing we’d lingered on earlier. Picking up the dropped clothing, he finds something in their midst: Young-shin’s broken cell phone.

COMMENTS

Omo. Oh no. He can’t find out before Young-shin! I’ve been so excited about the possibility of her putting together the clues about the Healer that I didn’t even think to suspect that Moon-ho would beat her to the discovery. It’s pretty great from a story point of view, but it totally puts me on edge—will he use this knowledge for good or evil, or if neither of those applies, at least for selfish gain? Will he let on that he knows, or will he keep this close to the vest and use it strategically? Of course, that assumes that he’s put together the whole story, because he may not be all the way there yet.

One of the reasons I love Moon-ho as a character is that I don’t actually know which way he’ll act. For everybody else, we can reasonably predict reactions or at least understand the direction of their emotions—but Moon-ho is smack-dab in the middle (not evil, but also not purely idealistic or naive either) and could swing either way.

For instance, he’s using the Healer as incentive for the police, and doesn’t seem conflicted at all about it—but then again, I don’t hold it against him, because he has no moral obligation to help out the Healer, just as the Healer’s appeal is his lack of moral interference in his clients’ lives. He has an interesting streak of idealism that seems at odds with his coldly pragmatic side. I suppose it makes sense when you think of him as Moon-shik and Myung-hee’s child, absorbing traits from both of them.

I did really love his execution of the internet broadcast, which recalled the freewheeling idealism that drove the original five friends in their pirate radio broadcasts. Moon-ho’s actions aren’t quite on the same level (he’s not doing illegal things or acting with their reckless vigor), but it’s in the same spirit, and it’s inspiring. I certainly felt he’d earned the awe from his team, because sincerity like that comes through. He eschewed the prestige and even his own reputation in order to present the truth, and although the process earned him some jeers, the end result proves the integrity of his motives.

It’s different from his brother, although the flashback to Moon-shik’s first encounter with the Elder sheds a more sympathetic light on his past. We still don’t know exactly when Moon-shik crossed over, but the timing suggests that Moon-shik had no hand in making the accident happen, and may have been injured in it too. No doubt he took advantage of the aftereffects, but even on that score he isn’t shown to be a scheming opportunist. He was backed into a corner, and if he was acting to save Myung-hee’s life first (and not motivated primarily by his desire to claim her for his own), then I can see how he started down his slippery slope. I like that it lends him a more pathetic air, rather than one that’s purely single-minded and selfishly motivated.

That rooftop scene was a classic case of Healer’s magic formula, because it’s simultaneously angsty while also taking the bite out of that angst. Jung-hoo’s being rejected, which sucks, but he’s totally being rejected in favor of his own damn self, which is hilarious, yet because he’s locked into his disguise, he’s not free to enjoy the flipside and has to feel the sting of not being the one she wants right now, and we’re back around to pain again.

Still, even as I’m watching through my fingertips thinking Ackkkfaksdlfjasdsalkdjf, it’s a kind of pain that’s enjoyable. Your heart feels bruised but you’re thinking, More please. It’s kind of masochistic.

But even though we know that the situation is ultimately “safe”—we’re getting our happy ending, right?—the reality is, in this form, Jung-hoo cannot be both Healer and Bong-soo at the same time. He hasn’t figured out how to be both men at the same time, and so, he can’t take Young-shin’s feelings for granted. The guise he is in currently isn’t the one she wants, and he can’t figure out a way for her to be with the guise she wants, so for the time being, he can’t be with her. Thus even though he knows she’s in love with (the other) him, his disappointment is real.

Which is why it was understandable (though surprising, to me) that he was entertaining ideas of putting his Healer life behind him. His confession was most touching to me for the way he was all set to give up that dashing hero side if Young-shin would accept him for his mundane half, because being that hero doesn’t really mean anything to him. Whose heart broke when he confessed that he had no reason to live? I see his falling in love as not only a cute romantic story but a way for him to find meaning in his life, an anchoring that he’s desperately wanted his entire life, without which he’s as lost at sea as that island he envisions as paradise.

After reading so many comments I was able to conclude that Healer/JCW is really bad for our health. Here are the effects :

1. Insomnia ( watching the episodes over and over again )
2. Diabetes ( too much sweetness of PBS/Healer and CYS)
3. Hyperventilation ( too much excitement )

and last but not the least ~

Dehydration ( too much drooling over JCW. Hahaha! )

We need to add a fridge and fill it with lotsa water and sugar free snacks. We can take care of the dehydration and not add to worsening the diabetes. As for the insomnia, we just need a big bat. When a Beanie won't sleep, kosh her/him on the head with it. Will bring on the sleep of the just in a wink! ;)

Hi everyone,

I am new to commenting here too and have just marathoned all 10 episodes. I gotta say I am quite surprised at how well-written this drama is. At first I didn't take much noticed because the drama seemed like a rip-off from City Hunter...but after watching it's completely different!!

Anyway, I feel I should finally comment instead of being a passive beanie :)

On another note, who here love YS's character?? I especially love how dorky she is. My favourite YS scene was when she face planted straight into the camera at her big moment! Haha

Love her too. Most of the time the heroine is such a dodo that one wishes she had gone extinct just like her namesake! I love her bravado and sass, and due to cleaver writing the viewer can understand why she needs rescuing during her panic attacks, cue swoon-worthy healer!

Oh my! Am I the 1465th commenter? I haven't seen comments this many before in Dramabeans!

I too have just jumped on the Healer train, after the Misaeng train left me. I quite liked JCW towards the end in Sol Pharmacy and in the early parts of Smile Donghae. Thought he was shouting his lines a lot at the later parts and that kinda turned me off. Had not watched any of his other works since then.

PMY was ok in Sungkyungkwan Scandal but towards the end, I found that I didn't quite like her way of acting. Had not watched any of her other works since then too.

Then I saw JCW in Running Man. Hmm, I should give this guy another chance. Then I saw PMY's new hairstyle. Hmm, I should give this gal another chance too.

And so I did. I was totally onboard when I saw the ending scene of ep5. And yes, my daily routines have been a mess ever since.

It's okay. The rest of our daily routines have not only been a mess, for some of us, they have become non-existent.

But welcome aboard! And you shall hopefully enjoy this ride, along with the insomnia you will be getting. But hey, no pain no gain right? (in this case the gain is all those moments of elation you get every time you watch Healer or see JCW)

DB lurker here, first time commenting. :-) Y'all are such fun squeee company, I just have to join in!

First off- a huge kudos to DB on fab recaps - always, of course, but particularly Healer, which I suspect must make the recap job like a hot knife through Buttah- easypeasy!

Secondly- Wow. I am a super picky viewer. I like well-crafted stuff from costumes to clever lines to shmexy camera angles. And I am like...on crack or something with Healer. Cannot get enough. Ep10, especially is squee heaven.

Thirdly- I absolutely love PMY. Dr. Jin would have been almost completely unwatchable but for her. (Although the male eye candy was certainly droolworthy, if a little emote-less -totally agree with whoever posted about Jaejoong's physical similarities to JCW, minus the acting range.... and minus the um...most sexy broad shoulders Ever. EVER. My freaking goodness those shoulders :-).) I digress. Back to PMY. I think she's really, really talented, and I love that she's an unconventional beauty. I would be so sad if she tweaks her features further into the plastic obscurity of Nose #3 and Chin#5. :-/ I'm still adjusting to this particular quirk of Kdrama land. Anyway....she is so beautiful and just nailing this character. Love love love <3

Fourth- I just have to squee with fellow JCW squeeers. I had never seen nor heard of Ji Chang Wook before Healer. He just didn't cross my limited kdrama path till now. I was shocked and pleased at how layered, and how subtle his Healer work was, so went to go check some of his earlier work. He's got some serious chops, and I don't think we've seen his best work yet. I think it's still to come. Although the Teacher confrontation in Ep. 10 was just.....gah!!!! Bleep!!!!Mmmmvvvh!!!

And now I feel like I need a counseling session...I usually go for the rugged toughguy masculine UnPlasticed types. They're fairly rare in kdrama land, which does seem to have an unbalanced amount of ridiculously young Plastic-y girlie-boy men floating around - totally ok for y'all that go for that-no hard feelings-obviously loads of people go for that...anyhooooo....I'm shocked at my squeeeeness over JCW. He's awfully pretty for my usual taste but somehow has a serious amount of Hot Mature Male Charisma. Must be the shoulders LOL. Dang.

I absolutely puddled into Gooo watching BongSoo's confession as his true nature, confidence, lower voice- OMG that smooth voice- , and animal attraction couldn't be hidden on the rooftop. SOOOO well-acted. YS's line "You seemed like someone else just then" would have been meaningless without JCW absolutely nailing the "boxed up charisma leaking out the crackle paint". Gaaaah!!!

I really love this character!!!And really crush JCW. Sigh. Crazy ahjumma hormones LOL. Thanks for the squeee- I needed that :-D

@ dramamama5

Welcome to commenting! I'm glad Healer has brought out many first time commenters and those who are not first timers but who have been lurking for a long time.

This show seems to have a magical power to draw many viewers out. Out of hiding and according to some sharings, out of possible prejudices which made them not want to try Healer in the first place .... but really, and most notably, it has succeeded in affecting even mature and serious thinkers and has taken them Out of their *Minds!!!*

The high number of admissions of many of us (myself) included, that we are practically, completely addicted and obsessed with the show and the main characters, especially Ji Chang Wook to the extent that our daily lives, are affected, I find is phenomenal. There is no way to measure just how much obsession is going on, but at a rough guess, more than 99% of comments on this thread are positive about the show, are fangirling or are statements that we are truly, deeply, hooked.

If this is the magic of drama making at it's best, then Real Life is going to have a *real* hard time, because we want to be OUT of our MINDS for a long, long time!!! :D

I think you might have have misunderstood me.
I really am very prejudiced against the use of hate words, especially the one that was used when I was beaten on as a child.
It is natural for me to have a strong reaction if I hear something that sounds very like it to me, and want to get away from the source.
It is only because I love Korean dramas so much that I could go back to try again.
Thanks for encouraging me and others to watch this great show.

Yep, best Dad of 2015 so far!

I wonder why he decided to adopt a kid in the first place? His "freeze button" mole idea was pure genius, and sweet!

0

Don't blame the pretteh, heh!! JCW's a chameleon - he's a combo of atleast 5 different actors/singers according to me. He can be cute, hot, angry, upset, etc and can change expressions on a dime. Initially I was thinking they'd cast another actor for a younger SJH but he nailed a 20 year old SJH as well. And, that voice modulation - being a musical actor helps with that bit.

As for his physique a commenter had mentioned in a previous recap thread that earlier he'd compared his body to an 8(?) year old's. He's had to work hard to fill alla dat up with muscle. On soompi I had read that during his Taiwan fan meeting his shoulder, lol, had been measured to be 45cms... all that working out helped after since on some variety show a week back it had been measured to be 50cms. JCW in the suit during the confrontation scene was divine... a good number of his peers his age are quite scrawny and have a pre-pubescent boy's physique. I appreciate his hard work - haahahaaaaaa for the eye candy!! No complaints!!

hahaha same here, I actually read the twilight books but I didn't understand what all the hype was about. Literally, living here in Australia, ALL my friends were into twilight. THen I saw the first movie - thought it was average (I mean the guy acting Edward wasn't even handsome at all), then I watched halfway through New Moon (second movie) and I literally fell asleep...it was THAT boring to me. I gave up on watching the rest of the series...Never understood the hype at all.

#noonebeatshealer

0

I mean even the hash tag stillabetterlovestorythantwilight is trending all over the place, thanks to those (like me) who didn't like Twilight. LOL

0

PLUS, not to the mention, for us Kdrama viewers, watching the Twilight movie is just too cheesy. Pretty much equivalent to watching the Heirs (but only 2x worse)...

0

Hehe same here, like everyone above, I never once understood why so many people loved Twilight. I find the movies super boring too and the books were just average. Stephanie Myers doesn't strike me as much of a great writer anyway, yet I do not understand how it took the western world by storm, like it's the most phenomenal love story ever. After reading the series then watching the movies (because literally everyone around me was into it), I did not get the hype.

My comment was made as a joke comparing the two (to twilight lovers out there....don't throw stones at me). Obviously Healer's love story is 10x epic no doubt. This has so many feels that I didn't even once felt with Twilight. The main leads in Twilight did not convince me with their supposedly true love.

I also agree with you Teru about it being similar to the Korean the Heirs. The Heirs was still at least tolerable than Twilight....:P

Seeing the flashback of healer with his teacher, I couldn't get it out of mind that...the real healer might have been park bong soo. Healer was simply an occupation for him, himself who was hardened by circumstances; of people leaving him. Seo Jung Hoon wasn't born to be cold just as Healer is, and if he was born in a different situation, he might actually be just like how park bong soo is. I am somehow saddened by that fact.

Speaking of madly, deeply, wildly, myself and sunshine were entertaining the idea of starting up an international fan project for Healer, what say you people?

We were just itching to do something having done one previously for Master's Sun - ah such fun. Tis all about spreading the love for that one special Kdrama which comes along and sucks you right in unexpectedly!

0

Required fields are marked *

@ namedx

What international fan project did you do for Master's Sun?

0

A book (over at Soompi), well three to be precise, full of fan arts, letters, comments - you name it. A group of us helped compile it, including Sunshine, then got it delivered to PD Jin Hyuk once it was completed.

0

Oh my, if you guys every start a fan project for Healer, please do be sure to let me know. JCW is going to get a piece of my mind, how dare he and this drama reduce me to the point of ruining my life?

Seriously though, I'd love to participate if I could.

0

Ummmm.... this sounds do-able. We seem to have lots of artistic souls here. You can get hold of the relevant info to know where and who to send to?

Do you propose to gather 'letters' from DB and copy/paste them for an e-Book?

0

@GB & skyofblue - Absolutely. It's doable if enough people hop on board and willingly take an active part. It would mean gathering ideas though and thinking of ways of how best to go around it. I know sunshine was rather keen on the idea too - would need people who are super organised to join in!

0

refering your answer here: 266.1.1.1.5, please please, when you do start any project let us know!i'm so ready to jumpin right now :D

0

@namedx referring your answer here: 266.1.1.1.5, please please, when you do start any project let us know!i'm so ready to jumping right now :D

0

Hey folks! Yep, I'm totally onboard with this idea of an international fan project.. the last time we did this with The Master's Sun was so fulfilling and memorable! When we first began the project, I had no idea we would get such massive response in terms of fan art submissions, messages to all the actors, special messages for the OSTs and what not! The response we received was definitely overwhelming, and because of all of that hardwork of all the fans, the books that we'd compiled for the fan project turned out to be absolutely A.W.E.S.O.M.E!!!

If we can repeat that with Healer (I so hope we do, cos I love thee, with my heart and soul, Healer yah!!!) then it is bound to be fantastic! And with all the extraordinarily creative folks here and at Soompi, of course we should be able to achieve something great!

Here's the link to the Soompi thread for the TMS project:

Xavienne, you are so very right. I must show consideration. The Healer beanies must all be resting since the JCW/Healer addiction is a disease that requires rest if the person is to continue with life. It is hard hitting on health. XD

This is very random but ah well ill say it.
I've never ever in my life seen my celebrity crush in my dream. O_o
so I've been looking at Jcw's pic and thinking about him before going to bed (cause I read somewhere that you normally dream about things you were thinking about before falling asleep) for the past 5 days and it has been a futile attempt evertime. :'(
what should I do?is it even possible to summon a dream that I want?

Haha I sound so crazy and desperate :s

Have any of you guys ever dreamt of you celebrity crush?

Ahhh, same. My cousin and I are actually also fans of SHINee, and while I have known them longer, I have not yet had a clear dream of any of them. She, on the other hand, has the most wonderful dreams. They're so sweet and fun, and could practically be made into movies! And then there's me, who gets such weird dreams...

Still haven't got a Healer related dream. Or any fun dream that I can remember really. *sigh*

Oh speaking of dreams, I'll put my comment on that below.

0

@skyofblue
i was just complaint about not seeing JCW in my dream last night and miraculously, i dreamt about him. yayyy its like the god heard my prayers. thank you heavens
although i say i dreamt of him, its more like watching healer's ep 10 in my head, my dream was just a replay of that rooftop date scene so umm.....not really what i was hoping for(nothing perverty okay lol thought id mention it just for the record) but at least i finally saw him in my dream. so I'm content with that...for now XD
oh and shinee! i used to be a really big of them before. still am but not really as much as i used to like them 3 years ago.
speaking of weird dreams, what do you mean by that? weird in what sense? hehe I'm being so intterogative

I am back once again, ready for another full day of commenting. I see some are heading off to sleep now though. Our time zones must be totally opposite.

To keep comments rolling, I wanted to ask a question to you all. Any beanies who passes by and sees this comment, please do have a go at it. I'd love to see your answers.

The question:

From the first episode till now, what are your top three favorite moments of the drama? And if you want to, explain why.

For me:

1.) I'll cheat with this one and say it's the OTP moment on the rooftop with the confession, AND the time earlier this episode where he's following her as she heads home. The first one speaks for itself. You can see Jung Hoo's real feelings pour out right then, and I felt like his actual personality was leaking out right there, not as Healer or Bong Soo, but Jung Hoo. It was so earnest, and those lines. You want to melt into a puddle of goo. As for him following her from Kim Moon Ho's apartment- The way he looks at her just does me in. It's so soft, and you can tell he’s contented just by seeing her. Every little thing she does amuses him. I think the tumblr blogger, dreamingsnowflake, said it best when she said it was like he was a guardian angel over her. It hurts at the same time, since you know he really wishes to be by her side, but is prevented due to his identity. That just makes the longing grow however, and gives us more squee-worthy emotive eyes and expressions from JCW.

2.) That moment when they finished their broadcast in this episode and they’re all still processing what just happened. It definitely feels like an auspicious moment. The blood pounding in your ears as you wait nervously to see whether what you have worked for will play out accordingly. Your racing heart. And that satisfaction, oh that satisfaction when you can finally breathe a sigh of relief and happiness because you accomplished what you’d set out to do. They flipped the entertainment news industry upside down, and with style. There will be much apprehension, but they are willing to go forward with what they believe in and this achievement taught them that they CAN do it.

3.) The scene with Teacher and Jung Hoo was oh so amazing. The transformation JCW went through in his character is wonderful. At first he’s surprised, then angry and upset. You can see the sadness and desperation in his eyes as he asks his Teacher to give him an answer about his father. And when he finally finds out, you can FEEL his emotions. It almost seems as if he unhinges his sanity for a few minutes, when he’s screaming and breaking things. That feeling of emptiness you get when you realize you lived all your life for nothing; it is so painful, and you want to ask why but the answer is that life just left you that way. From here on out, Jung Hoo has to create his purpose for living. The scene just left an impression on me.

Wow, I ended up writing a lot. Sorry beanies. But, now it’s your turn...

Ooh fun, it's currently 1am down my end, but what the heck, I'm wide awake anyway lol

Hmmm, top three favourite scenes.. that's a tough one.

Ok, these would be mine, but there's no way on earth it can be limited to these three alone. That would be crazy ha!

1 - The moment he clips her nails: ah fell in love with this scene. It was strangely seductive, though on a sadistic level, if we think about what YS must have been going through! But, I do love that she held her own in that moment. Her fighting spirit is no joke, especially in the face of danger, and I love that Healer got to witness that first hand. I also love the way Healer handled the situation, he was so damn smooth that not once did he show signs of the typical male lead aggression as per kdrama wrist grabbing law. That one scene encapsulated his righteous work ethic, his considerate nature, and his respect for women all in one go. Thinking about it now, how easy would it have been for your average kdrama to turn this moment into somewhat of an abusive and twisted moment for the male lead, in which his haughtiness and male ego becomes apparent.

2 - The moment he sees his picture on Yong Shin's wall: His expression in that moment, beyond cute. You can see he was tickled by the idea that he must hold some significance for this odd, yet quirky woman. His smile in that moment...*sighs* enough said.

3 - His confrontation with teach: damn powerful moment, and one that got me rather teary. It wasn't Healer or Bong Sook, but Jung Hoo's helplessness that was on full display. It really was as if time had stopped for him after teacher had left; and upon seeing him again, he just crumbled, and seemingly returned to the state of innocence, whereby his broken spirit as a child, resurfaced. Along with the betrayal and hurt he now feels as an adult, it was heartbreaking to see him fall apart, knowing life remains unchanged for him - pointless and surreal. In essence, he's not all that dissimilar to Moon Ho, whereby he feels equally lukewarm about life, and is perhaps seeking that one thing which will make him live again, be it hot or cold.

I was surprised to see the first scene- the nail clipping one. Reading what you've said, you're quite right. The way the clippings were taken was smoothly executed, without using brute strength or making the common use of the male lead completely overpowering the girl, and with zero courtesy at that too.

I like how the writer incorporated Young Shin's courage and bravery into the character. She'll stand up for herself, but she's no superwoman. There's always the two ends of the spectrum, which are both extreme. On one end is the female lead who's much too soft, naive, kind, and dependent, and on the other hand is the one who's extremely rough, loud and foul-mouthed, etc. Young Shin fits perfectly into the middle of the spectrum with her character. I like how she's given a backbone, but is kept realistic. She has guts, but it's not like she's unafraid.

Her weakness isn't a flaw either- it's just something that makes her sympathetic. Sometimes, characters are given flaws made to be sympathetic but it doesn't work. With Young Shin however, it is plausible and acceptable, and it even makes you love her more. She charges into the heat of things even while knowing that it is going to affect her health. I don't care that she loses the battle, but the fact that she goes in strong and with heart is all that matters to me.

Haha, that ended up being a character analysis of Young Shin. I really do love this girl's character.

For Top 3 OTP moments (because Jung Hoo and Young Shin, how I love thee~):

1. (Ep 7) Rooftop rendezvous scene. Am I crazy for leaning a bit more towards this scene more than the kiss? Tell me, have I gone mad? See, I have this masochistic tendency to go for the moments with such restrained, pent-up emotions threatening to spill over. The reluctant way Young Shin reached out to place her hand on his chest, and how Jung Hoo cradled it with his. And his electrifying gaze. Urggggh. Idk, it's not like there was any kind of intense skinship that happened in here, but I find it so romantic anyway.

2. (Ep 10) Rooftop date/confession. Most straightforwardly cute confession scene in a K-drama I've ever had the pleasure of watching (double "yes" + cute nod for the win). It was simple and heartfelt. Lovely, just lovely. "For a long time, carefully, by your side." *cue endless hopeless romantic sighs*

3. (Ep 4) Falling asleep together on the couch. How Young Shin finds Jung Hoo's presence comforting even though she's unaware of it. Her subconscious must remember the time they spent back when they were still kids, even though her mind already repressed those memories.

Yay, love what you wrote!

I'll have to think about this one. Or maybe I won't because my favorite moments are pretty much the same as yours AND in that order LOL.

Yeah, my number one moment is also the rooftop confession scene. I would write about why, but I wrote a SUPER long comment (*cough*paper*cough*) about just that scene on page 2, comment 85. So if you want you can check it out.

My number 2 and 3 are also the same as yours and you kind of described them perfectly LOL, so I'm not really sure what to say.

Maybe I'll just add that there one more simpler scene I really really love: the scene when 'Bong-soo' eats breakfast with Young-shin's family. GAH, scenes like those happen in dramas all the time, but they always get me.

I also love the ending scene of episode 5 when Young-shin 'saves' him and he gives her that proud smile.

Haha, sorry this didn't turn out to be exactly what you asked, but still :)

Chandler, those thoughts of yours on the rooftop scene were pure perfection! Wonderful writing and explanation of your thoughts. I agree completely. You beanies are all much more articulate than I am in delivery with words.

I felt like on the rooftop scene, Park Bong Soo became Jung Hoo. I've given my explanation for that several times on this very thread. But what you said makes sense too. That Park Bong Soo and Jung Hoo are mixing and so Young Shin is growing closer to the actual Jung Hoo. That...is a very good way of looking at it.

And yes, I was also of those who didn't feel sad at his rejection. In fact, I was actually excited, because for goodness' sake, he's getting rejected for his own darn self! Lol at the way you said it. Love triangle with yourself. It's between him and his identities I suppose.

What I want from Young Shin however, is for her to grow closer and fonder of Bong Soo/Jung Hoo. Granted, Healer is definitely someone I can imagine crushing on. However, it feels more like a crush than love for that person. Personally, it doesn't seem that she has an affection for him, as she does for Bong Soo. Her feelings are underdeveloped for Healer. You can't really love a person without even knowing who they are right? Personally, I don't believe you can. I want to see if she'll develop feelings for Bong Soo/Jung Hoo too, and then imagine her surprise when they all turn out to be the same person. Girl just hit the jackpot!

Aw, thanks! :)

Regarding your last part- YES. Me too. I'm not sure whether the writer will really take us here, but I'd really love it if there was some situation that shows Young-shin just how connected she is with Bong-soo and how essential his presence is to her and that she begins to at least start having those feelings.

That said, when you look at things from her perspective, she is really only at the start of her romance with 'Healer' in her eyes. So while she doesn't know him enough yet to love him deeply, there is such a thing as opening yourself up to the idea of loving someone, and feeling a connection with them, and I believe this is what Young-shin decided to do with Healer. When you consider how he saved her, kissed her, and the few spoken exchanges between them, there is enough there to begin a romance and, over time, forge a deeper connection.

We need to remember that the nature of the story puts her at a disadvantage when it comes to the intensity of her feelings, at this point, no matter what, because she simply isn't given access to Seo Jung-hoo in the way that he is. This is why I think the writer did a great job in making her character so awesome to root for and in making her feelings feel credible, because if she was reduced to less than that then it might have been easy for us to feel disappointed, like she was choosing a shallow connection, over a deeper one. But I definitely think there's more to consider than that.

Until this episode, Jung-hoo hadn't put this much of himself into Bong-soo. But now that he has there is a much greater chance the camaraderie between them will continue to develop and begin to test her feelings for real.

Gah, how do I end up writing this much? Oy, time to sleep.

you spoke my mind Chandler.
two of my top favourite scene are the end of ep5 and "bongsookah" having breakfast with youngshin's family. Him smiling proudly at her and him being astounded at the unfamiliar sight of "family eating together", its these kind of small detailed gestures that really gets me. after seeing the teacher abandoning junghoo scene, i just want junghoo and young shin to get married quickly and have cute little babies and live a happily ever after so bad
Healer having 3 meals a a day together with his loved ones for the rest of his life is all i wish for!!
Another scene i really liked is when YS is talking to "bongsoo" over the phone in ep 9 and she says "if i waited like this, i thought he would appear in front of me...but he's not coming.". junghoo's face during this scene was priceless. in that mere 3 seconds he showed various emotions. First Shocked by here honest confession, then happiness because she was waiting for HIM and then lastly sadness or maybe even regret for his earlier thoughtless action which led her to yearn for Healer/him even more but he knows that its not really possible for them to meet and start dating like normal people. Does what i just said even make any sense? looks like at the end all I'm doing is praising JCW for his amazing acting skills.
Man, life is hard when you're a JCW fan. everything thing i say comes back to JCW and turned me into a rambling kid lol blaming JCW for my inarticulate-ness *goes and hides in the corner*

Only three? Urrrk, that is so hard. Wait, let me think about it.

First, let me list my top moments from each of our main characters:

1. YOUNG SHIN: (Ep 4) Getting cornered in the alleyway by the SS thugs, shoving hoobae Bong Soo aside and bravely standing up to their attackers. I remember being so impressed with her in this scene, and made me start loving her even more. Girl has serious GUTS! She didn't back away like a typical damsel in distress. Despite her fear, she acted as the responsible sunbae and put her junior's safety above her own. Even though she was vastly outnumbered (and practically half the size of the head goon), she stood tall and proud. I love this girl. She's such a kickass heroine.

2. JUNG HOO: (Ep 10) The entire flashback of young Jung Hoo meeting Teacher for the first time, his training period, the abandonment, and leading back to the present with the confrontation scene. I've always clamored for more backstory regarding our hero, and this gave me everything I wanted and then some. JCW's pitch perfect, hard hitting acting, omg. Always knew he's a daebak actor (in EK, he had some very powerful scenes as well) and he's just continuously impressing me without fail.

And am I allowed to cheat and just chip in one more? Rooftop kiss, for the character development (and the squeees).

3. MOON HO: (Ep 1) Character introduction. How awesome was he as a rockstar reporter (with the crowd of reporters parting for him like he's Moses, lol)? But then we get too see that underneath his polished exterior, a broken, guilt-ridden man lies. His character's strongest point was in the very beginning, and he was the one who actually left the biggest impression on me out of all three. Back then at least. Not saying that I don't like him now, he still has me certainly intrigued. I believe that Song Ji Na has great things in stored for Moon Ho and that he serves as a pivotal role in the story, one that will prove viewers' misgivings about him wrong. (Or so I sincerely hope!)

Why is this drama not 1st.....it really should be 1st. Will KBS take into account the international adoring obsession unable to function without Healer fans like us who simply love Healer....why is it not doing well in Korea?

All thses people missing out on one of the best frama of all times.

Saying that, the Chinese 'SARFT' is banning all streaming of foreign drama's Korean included. the drama's have to be finished first then approved by SARFT before the Chinese audience can watch it....'State of Big Brother in full control of peoples lives and entertainment viewings'....I so feel for those that are affected by this decision....I would be so depressed. Good news is that currently airing KD from 2014 will continue for viewers to watch in China, until they end, they are not affected by the ban.

Hello all Beanie friends, old and new it's 01:32am UK GMT! It's the early hours of Saturday morning and the rest of the household is fast asleep and I'm awake, because Healer has been haunting me since I watched episode 10.

Back to work since Tuesday, so was unable to read or comment here, I did sporadically when I got the chance to log in and see how many of the Beanies have been suffering because of our hero ( from the number of comments, a lot of you are suffering, some may need to be hospitalized soon too). Like all of you mentioned above, over the Christmas break, I ate, slept, and functioned only for Healer, but I could no longer function on 4 hour sleep! watching, re-watching, reading, commenting, stalking every known site for more info on Healer and of course JCW, (first time for me to be totally obsessed with an actor its beyond funny, I feel like a giddy teenage girl with her first ever crush, which I'm definitely not!)

It pained me to not be able to keep reading the threads etc otherwise my poor students in class would not learn anything apart from squeeee noises!!!

But wow all your comments, some are too hilarious I'm having to muffle my laughter. like always I'm in total agreement of what I've managed to read so far, very insightful ladies and gents. *thumbs up to all Beanies*, big bow to all Beanies who have been possessed by Healer, I can sympathize.

Wasn't the roof top impromptu date confession, sooo god damn painful to our hearts yet sooooo sweet too?

Good to have you back when you can return. Yes, you need to have some compassion upon your students, however you never know, they could teach you a thing or two about squeeing that you/we never knew!!!

That rooftop (all rooftop?) scene truly takes the cake in eliciting sighs, swoons, drools, heartaches, ... even tears. I'm with you.

Thank you for your props on our hilarity *coughs modestly on behalf of all Beanies* we do try to make your waiting hours diverting and mirthful. At least while you laugh, you exercise your abs and tummy muscles and suffer abdominal aches that distract you from the pain of the long wait. :D

Hehehehehehe....Ohhh how I've missed reading yours and all the other regular Beanies who are faithful to 'Healer' comments. You and the others do make this thread sooo much fun, really with all your funny takes on things to do with everyone's current Healer affected syndrome its killing me... ;) I haven't exercised my facial muscles as much as I have been doing since reading all your comments.

I've only managed to read the threads on this page 6, I know I've missed out on some awesome comments on the other 5 pages (I will get round to reading them, in between planning lessons, and being mum,, don't have time to be wife too, poor husband, he'll have to wait until Healer finishes airing, for me to resume normal wifey duties ;) hehe)

I need to loose 3 stones by April, so please keep the hilarity coming Beanies, you will be aiding a fellow Beanie in my mission to be back to my pre-children shape!!!!!

Do you know what I'd really like and wish for, is that for all of us Beanies to meet up and have a coffee/tea morning chatting to each other, stuffing our self with delicious cakes, sandwiches and all other yummy things while filling up on our Healer obsessed self. I know it's not possible, but I would so love to meet the real people behind the names here, you all sound like my kind of people. :)
I love meeting new people, everyone is different and I like that everyone has a different take on life, its so interesting.

But I know that everyone of you good folks, has the same views, thoughts and feelings when it comes to Healer.

There is no doubt that this 'Healer' disease is infectious and highly contagious, once it enters our system it will not leave, no amount of antibiotics or therapy session will cure us of it... may we endure this infection together until the very end of time (well maybe until Healer stops airing maybe!)

Out of curiosity, and because our world is no longer so big that we cannot reach each other physically ... Where are you? As you may have noticed in my response in 276.2.1.1 I am in Singapore.

Getting together for some face-to-face has been something that comes to my mind too .... It will be wonderful to meet the people behind the monikers, knowing we already have something in common and that we are a fun bunch! :)

I'm based in 'Sunny' Not! England, in the countryside surrounded my lush green fields, cows and sheeps, and horse dung on the roads. I was a city slicker growing up in London, but moved out once we had kids. Fresh country air and sense of village community life is what I wanted the children to experience..

I'd come to visit you when I manage to get a holiday in Singapore...its a beautiful country with lovely people, so I hear.

I'll have to take a rain check on visiting Singapore, in the near future....as I'm off to Hainan Island this Easter for my dad's 20th year memorial service.

But it would be nice to meet up face to face :)

The blind date, the suspicion....too much for one person to handle I feel like im gonna explode.

We all know City Hunter and Healer has some similarities, but has anyone noticed this?

Kim Young Joo's father was responsible for the death of Kim Na Na's (PMY) parents as well as the death of Lee Yun Seong's supposed father.

Kim Moon Ho's brother (as what we suspect) is somehow responsible for the death of the fathers of both Chae Young Shin (PMY) and Seo Jung Hoo.

Hmmmmm. Nonetheless, I believe Healer will have a better ending than City Hunter. The storyline is already WOW! >.<

Oh and, do watch this MV I made! I know I posted this here before but I'm just really in love with this OST <3

So carrying on with the discussion, JCW is such an awesome actor, his expressive eyes, the little smirks, the looks of wanting he portrays, the looks of desires, the gentleness of his touch, the looks of frustration, when he can't be beside YS as her strong Healer, the looks of needing to comfort YS and protecting her, the looks of quirkiness that is Bong Soo.....the looks of confident Healer.

After confessing his earnests feelings and being rejected by YS, it was funny to see Bong Soo, shrug his wide shoulders and say oh well I give up, because really we know he likes the fact that she is not flimsy in her love for Healer, and she stays true to her hearts desire. You could see through those sexy eyes to his soul during that confession. loved that scene even more than the ow kiss.

Speculation time, what will happen now that Moon Ho has discovered YS old phone? does he suspect Bong Soo or will he think Healer has other motives and gave back her phone?

Can't wait for YS, MH, and our hero to work together to solve the mystery of what happen in 1992 that caused all three of them such sadness in their lives.

I felt for Moon Ho, when he laid down his head on myung Hee's lap, he really seem like a little boy with all the emotional worries children have, trying to keep his knowledge secret but it's all so emotionally overwhelmingly to keep YS alive and not say anything to the two ladies that need to know about their true identities and all the other implications of finding the lost/dead Ji An.

Young Shin doesn't seem like the type to hold grudges, not that her mother could be blamed for her all the unfortunate happenings of her past young self, being lost and then abused. The reunion will be amazing and heart wrenching I'm sure.

Myung hee holds the key to all that happened in the past.

Moon Shik younger self in the past was not evil, he was just powerless, pitiful, and because of the situation, he sold his soul to the devil to keep Myung Hee alive. But did he have a hand in abandoning Ji An once he found her? He definitely faked her death (funeral).

Detective Yoon, sarcastic comments to how kind sleazy creepy now dead president Hwang for leaving behind all those clues. I just wished he wasn't so obsessed with the Healer being a murder suspect.

Gotta love daddy Chae, Young Shin deserves a daddy like him, he and his wife win besparents award, they helped a scared, emotionally scarred and physically abused child, become a happy positive outgoing young woman. Who can trust and believe in others, even when she really can't see or know who the real Healer is, she implicitly trust Healer to protect her and to care for her.

Had to laugh at Jung Hoo awe expression when Young Shin picked the lock. She matches him so well, she is his true other half in life, been born exactly one month apart but one whole year in age older. Can't wait for her to show him her other skills, like cracking a safe, or pickpocketing...

I am so in agreement with your comments!!! Way to go, now that you are back!

So glad you put them down so that I can be lazy and not have to (actually I did not try very hard and so did not come up with as much as you did LOLOL!)

You said : "Can’t wait for YS, MH, and our hero to work together to solve the mystery of what happen in 1992 that caused all three of them such sadness in their lives. " YES, Yes, Yes, me too. Been saying this on different parts of threads. Work together people, unity is strength!!!

"Gotta love daddy Chae, Young Shin deserves a daddy like him, he and his wife win best parents award, ..."
Absolutely. His sensitivity towards YS's withdrawal and trauma is phenomenal. Their open relationship of trust as symbolized by their ridiculous, goofy dance and singing - just warms my heart. What a contrast to what Jung Hoo may have experienced in his youth.

There is/are comment(s) that Jung Hoo did look enthusiastic, happy and settled as a young man, on that birthday that Teacher left him, and that he must have had a warm upbringing with Teacher as a father figure and master/teacher. At least he is able to call his Teacher by a rude name LOL! without chastisement.

I don't know though, Teacher does not seem to have a nurturing kind of personality, but Jung Hoo was an affectionate child and willing to be 'baited' by Teacher into trying to get back his money as well as into some kind of life with him. I wish he had experienced more warmth and affection as a young boy.

On Detective Yoon: To be fair, although I do not want him to keep chasing after Healer, he has to investigate since the photo of Healer with GSC before his death is a big lead that cannot be ignored. Nothing much may come of Hwang being tagged to take the blame though... Secretary Oh overdid the suicide thing with all the clues laid out for Yoon. That does nothing but beg the question of a fall guy set up, and still leaves Healer as the main setter-upper LOL!

As for JCW's expressions and wonderful acting ... for all the parts you mentioned. ... I just can't ...

Partly because most of it has already been said by so many others, :D but also, I am so impressed, there are no words to express it. JCW and his acting .... just Wow! *happy sighs*

I cackled when Det Yoon didn't buy any of that rigmarole, dryly remarking that he'd never seen such an organised suicide note, or such a generous/considerate murderer!

I hope that in the course of tailing Young Shin, he sees something that can prove Bong Soo/Jung Hoo's innocence!

(btw, I keep expecting him to turn into the whiny Manager Kim from King of High School Savvy!)

I'm on for the Top 3 Fave Scenes, but will you allow me to group it 'coz there's just too many... and anyway, I'm not as good as you when it comes to writing. :)

Top 3 Swoon-worthy-squeal-inducing Moments:
1. Rooftop-snow-first-kiss
2. Rooftop-blanket-first-date
3. First-phone-chat-about-crush#2

Top 3 Heart-breaking-tear-inducing Moment:

1. Jung Hoo’s talk with teacher regarding his father
2. Jung Hoo’s melt down on his birthday when he wants to talk to teacher
3. Young Shin’s past with Daddy Choi

Top 3 Funny-laugh-worthy-ROFL-inducing Moments:

1. Boong Soo’s make-over
2. Nail-cutting for Young Shin’s DNA
3. Healer’s bullying of Doble S boss

Top 3 Action-packed-adrenalin-inducing Moments:

1. Elevator rescue
2. Acrobatic dark alley fight to protect YS
3. Every time Healer jumps and run through the roof of the Gotham City with the speed of Superman, agility of Spiderman and hi-tech gadgets of Batman… (darn, that’s superhero al-in-one!)

So, that’s it for me… more or less!

Sorry to ruin your poll… but that’s why we’re here, right? A group of happy for the ruin people who just can’t get enough of our dear Healer and JCW’s acting and melting power. :D

Pssh, no need to apologize. Those are awesome categories you came up with!

Omg, that part where Healer was toying with the Double S guard was hilarious. And so pathetic for the Double S goon.

I have to say, that elevator rescue was pretty great. The quick thinking he used, his desperation in trying to get to her, the way he managed to save her AND keep his identity a secret.

LOL, one thing about the hat though. You guys, that was a very open-holed hat wasn't it? There's no way she couldn't have seen through it, unless she was making sure to keep her eyes firmly closed in respect for the Healer.

For me, one of my favorite action scenes was the ending of ep 4 and beginning of ep 5. Where he uses the poles and does all sorts of crazy acrobatic stunts to beat up the Double S loons. I praise that scene even more because apparently JCW did some of the stunts himself. Is that daebak or what?

@polaris: spot on with all the Top 3 moments! I'd have listed down exactly similar moments!

Just to add, there was one scene that I found particularly heart-tugging (not of the gut-wrenching variety but just the tender moment that tends to stay with you for a long time!) -

The moment when Bong-soo joins Young-shin's family for lunch, and sees his favorite potato dish (most importantly, prepared by Young-shin!!).. Gah! the expression on his face...!! It was such a poignant moment! Moments like these are what make Healer so relatable .. all the emotions are captured in the best way possible!

We can hope that this will be another way for the penny to drop for YS. She so needs to find out about this for herself and to know that Jung Hoo has been trying to tell her without telling her. That he has been truthful while hiding behind a persona or personae ... that he did not lie for the sake of making a fool of her but because for him that is how he survives. *sighs and bangs head on table in frustration* The wait continues... :)

Oh… and may I add just one more category, please:

Top 3 Funny-musical-dance-inducing Moments:

1. YS and Dad’s song and dance duet at the café, as dorky-undercover-Healer watched hilariously dropping his jaw.
2. YS sing and dance emo in her room while Healer under the bed (and throw her pajamas on Healer’s face… kekeke!)
3. YS self-calming song while descending the stairs at KMH pent, and Healer enjoying the song 2 floors behind.

And… this is just till episode 10… so hopefully more polls to come!

Re: Comments 222.1++ (growingbeautifully, kay), 251.++ (xavienne)

We’re all aware now that there is a spreading disease, as GB specifically enumerate the symptoms, and Kay happily and giddily declared of no possible cure.

Xavienne already found out the effects, if I may re-enumerate (with your permission, of course):

1. Insomnia ( watching the episodes over and over again )
2. Diabetes ( too much sweetness of PBS/Healer and CYS)
3. Hyperventilation ( too much excitement )
4. Dehydration ( too much drooling over JCW)

Now, the only thing left is to name this disease. We can’t consider this a virus since, it’s not communicable unless you want to. But once you get in-touch with the people with this disease, especially the severe ones, you have no point of return.

From now on, this non-communicable-but-self-induced-incurable disease will be known as:

HEALERIA SEPSIS a.k.a. JCW Toxemia

Work is crazy, my schedule for this week is totally insane, and I have to work until Sunday….huhuhuhu,
Working meaning no internet connection for me, no internet connection meaning no drooling over JCW or Healer *depressed!*

Sooooo, seem that work is try to play a dirty game with me, I don’t have many choice then, I decide to do a campaign, A Healer Campaign! I try to introduce Healer drama to all , well almost all my co-worker, I think I do well, coz some of my co-worker start to watch Healer drama ^^V

But people there is a bad outcome from this campaign….because some of us who watch this drama did shared same/almost same, this week crazy schedule, so we stuck at the same worst situation with no internet connection. We got we to ease our pain hahahaha
The only good thing from the campaign is that I am not alone in this misery *evil laugh*

Got to spread this Healer love to everyone people!

We might also break the record for the show that has the most episodes with 1,000+ comments, if we haven't already.

I know this post is long, guys, but, I promise you, I’m pretty sure it’s worth your time LOL!

So I've been thinking about Healer. Which I’m sure none of you are surprised about. I was rewatching the beginning sequence of this episode, with the broadcast. During that moment when it dawned on everyone involved that they had succeeded, Jung Hoo looked so clueless and oblivious to what was going on. And I find this interesting for a reason that I will go into, but first there are a few points and speculations I need to lay out:

1, I wrote about this in a comment at some point, but ever since Myung Hee mistook Healer for his father, so much as to actually SEE his father in Healer-clothing, I’ve suspected that Jung-hoo’s father had sort of the ‘Healer’ role in relation to the five friend’s underground broadcast. Now, it turns out that the whole operation was called Healer. But I still think that he played that integral part, even if he didn’t solely bear the name ‘Healer’ at the time.

2, So he would gather high-profile information on corrupt officials etc. using his Healer-like skills and then, instead of selling it to the highest bidder like Jung-hoo does now with his version of the ‘Healer’ role, he would hand it over to Gil-han and Myung-hee to broadcast.

3, Then, the ‘incident’ occurs…and suddenly JH’s father (I need to get this guys name down!) is suspected of breaking away from those ideals…for money. I find it interesting that the media tarnished the name of the ‘Healer’ AND that then the ‘Healer’ role would go on to develop into something not much different from what they tarnished it as: someone who would do anything (well, except kill, so there is that difference) for the highest bidder.

4, So, essentially, Jung-hoo went on to fulfill the role of the ‘Healer’ like his father…except all his life he used his skills in a way his father never intended. It’s to the point where he doesn’t even understand or really care about the sheer triumph they achieved this episode, because he just hasn’t been taught to use his skills in that way. I think it’s likely that Teacher reinvented the role of ‘Healer’ when he got out of prison, first to attempt to uncover what had happened, and then in order to take care of himself and Jung-hoo when he realized that solving the mystery and going up against the Elder would be too hard.

I can’t blame the guy for making that choice because it’s very realistic and I’m sure he just wanted to spare Jung-hoo the pain of going up against the Elder and failing. BUT I think it was a mistake to set Jung-hoo off on such a lonely path, caring only for earning money, because it’s essentially what made his life so meaningless. He didn’t have a purpose. NOW THIS, brings me to my point.

I LOVE how Young-shin’s influence caused him to inadvertently revert back to his father’s intended role by causing him to go after the evidence she needed so that she could report it. JB said how him falling in love is...

(cont.) is really more about him finding a place in the world and that’s so true because it’s actually returning his ‘Healer’ role to what it always should have been, EVEN if he isn’t quite to the point of understanding it himself, as this episode shows. He could find a life purpose in using his Healer skills to help the people. He may only be in it now for Young-shin & solving his father’s mystery, but I’d love to see him take on that larger purpose.

Really, at the end of the day, I love this drama so much because it’s all about people finding it in themselves to heal the wounds that the years have dealt them, so that they may begin to look outside of themselves once again and heal the world. (Now, that statement may be cheesy, but isn’t it pretty damn beautiful?)

Wow, you've been doing a lot of thinking! :D I had to read your post twice so my laggy brain can process it. Daebak analysis of what Healer's true function/meaning might have you have there. Honestly, I've never thought of the possibility of Jung Hoo's Dad undertaking the "Healer" role in the past, but your explanation (w/c is so wonderfully pieced together!) made it entirely plausible.

Haha, it's complete speculation. I think it really only comes out of the scene between Healer and Myung-hee, because my first impression always had me thinking that she mistook him as his father partially because he looked like him, but also partially because he wore a similar outfit to his father. I did come to realize that she could have just seen him as his father...because he just looks like his father LOL. But I could never kick that impression I got so I wrote about it anyway. Might as well ponder about it before I'm proven wrong, haha.

@ Chandler

But really the way you put it, makes it sound sooooo plausible. Who's to say you're not wrong!!! :)

I meant, 'you're not right!!!' Hahaha...sleep deprivation getting to the brain.

great post @chandler

wow, you never cease to amaze me, chandler-sshi!I don't think i could get that far, my brain won't let me. if we could compare each other, i think your brain works like the Intel's 8-core Haswell-E while mine still use the sempron series, eeck :D

i don't know how i put what i had in mind, but somethin crossed my mind too when a few days ago some beanie put a link here and mention about the possiblity that JH's dad is still alive after all. So i cehck again with the site here: http://www.koreandrama.org/?p=37977 and yes, Jung Kyu Soo (http://star.koreandrama.org/?p=9570) is playing as JH dad.

So there's really a big fat chance that somewhere in the middle of second acr, the JH dad will resurface after all.

AW thanks! Such high praise! Haha, if it makes you feel better my brain can't even understand it's own analogy due to my lack of basic computer knowledge :P

Honestly, this is a testament to the drama because I rarely write comments like this! In order to explain my thoughts I always have to write a lot, which is exhausting. So a lot of times I just end up not doing it. But, with Healer, the fabric of the story is so well thought-out so far that I actually ENJOY pondering about where it may go.

OH also, I thought that too about JH's dad, but check this out:

http://www.allkoreanstar.com/2014/09/jung-kyu-soo.html

OMG, can you imagine that plot twist. LOLOLOL.

OMYGODDD! *GASP* that's the secretary?!!!!!! Reallyyy, NOOOOOOOOOOOO..i mean he's completely the dirty one, who do all the dirty work, and even attempt to kill CYS!argh, JH gonna be so devastated :(

But what i don't understand is, how come KMS did'nt realize that's his freind,or is he knew all along? But, but..another thing is, the height! the young JH's father is quite tall too, not as tall as JH, but he's tall. but the secretary is jut like minion, esp on the scene when he's been draggin by KMH, remember? That's height difference just like, heuheue..i can't even.. LOL

HAHAHA, that's why I think there's a mistake on the cast listings for some of these sites because THERE IS NO WAY the sneaky, weaselly secretary who tampered with the elevator is Healer's father. It's just too ridiculous LOL. Like if there were ever a way to tank this show, that would be that way.

Chandler, you and the rest of the beanies continue to amaze me with your deep analyses of the show. See people? Entertainment can be intelligent.

Your theory is so good, that I actually hope that's the real story in the drama. And the last line you end with, it really is beautiful. This drama has always been about coming out and trusting again, after the hurt that you've been through- healing yourself and then those around you. Wonderfully put Chandler.

Aw, really? Thanks so much!

And, yes, if there's anything Dramabeans has taught me, it's that entertainment can be very intelligent.

I'm so happy you like my theory :D

Hey Chandler! Love your comments and theories!

Just realised that we were posting similar comments (mine's at 199.2.2.1~199.2.2.1.2)!

Re your points 1 & 4: "Now, it turns out that the whole operation was called Healer." "I think it was a mistake to set Jung-hoo off on such a lonely path, caring only for earning money, because it’s essentially what made his life so meaningless. He didn’t have a purpose."

I agree - Jung Hoo as the night courier "Healer" was occupying the role in name only (although admittedly in a very swoonworthy manner!). It was always about the Healer team. Now Jung Hoo, Young Shin and Moon Ho together have the skills, passion and savvy to right past wrongs and accomplish what "Healer" was originally meant to do!

Thanks! I just went back to read yours and I love them too! Especially this:

"It’s funny, but the birth secret tropes don’t bother me as much as usual, since it all goes back to the close-knit circle of friends who had a dream to change the world, and it all comes down to the 3 “kids”, MH, JH and YS/JA, who need to find each other again (shades of LG, anyone?!), and rebuild the bond that their parents once shared."

- You seriously put it perfectly! Like, this is exactly why I don't mind the birth secrets in this drama!

And yes! Even if my theory about his actual father playing that specific role is wrong, the underlying theme doesn't change. He still carries the name of the underground vigilante broadcast that his father was a part of, and together with Young-shin and Moon-ho he could find a purpose not unlike the one his own father lived and died for. But this time he will succeed and survive and clear his name and live happily ever after bringing down corrupt officials with Young-shin (and Moon-ho)! :D

@Chandler: yes, Jung Hoo has now awakened to normal human needs and desires and feelings!

His deserted island dream was very apt, since it brings to mind the saying that "no man is an island", and shows that Jung Hoo's "Healer" is not complete without the others. We accomplish things together, not alone!

Now he's found a woman to love, a potential brother, and even a potential father-in-law!! Not to mention he's finding a purpose, mission and will to live, although there is heartbreak involved in finding out about the past. It will all be worth it in the end. Healer-ya, hwaiting!!

Wow @Chandler I just read your analysis and your speculation of JH's dad being Healer was brilliant. It sure does make sense to the story and I love how you point out that this show is about healing people too. Just brilliant writing, I love reading this :D

Javabeans also mentioned the dad's name in the recap above (Seo Joon-seok). But I just saw ep6 on KBSW, and they indicated it as Seo Joon Seo in the subtitles.
