Moon Geun-young makes her stage debut
by javabeans
Known for her wholesome, girl-next-door appeal, “Korea’s Little Sister” Moon Geun-young takes the next step in maturing her image; she portrays a stripper in the stage play Closer (which is the same play that was the basis for the film).
The play opened on August 6, and then put on a performance on the 10th for its press call. Moon plays Alice, whose complicated relationship with writer Dan (Eom Ki-joon, double-cast with Lee Jae-ho) forms the backbone of half the play; the other half is devoted to another couple, and the four lives intersect in various ways.
Moon’s role is double-cast with theater actress Shin Da-eun, pictured at bottom. Moon said of the character, “I think the reason Alice bewitches people is because she is so charming. I do feel some pressure and concerns, but I’m enjoying it.” Shin said, “Alice is quite an appealing person, so I’m having fun. She’s not too different from me, personality-wise.”
The other two characters are played by Jin Kyung and Park Soo-min (double-cast as Anna) and Choi Kwang-il and Bae Sung-woo (as Larry).
Moon already took a big step toward changing her image in her last drama, Cinderella’s Sister, in which she played a misunderstood character whose inner emotions were masked by outer surliness. She seems to be making the transition from child actress into adulthood pretty gracefully.
Closer will run through October 10.

I have no trouble when her wanting to be considered more 'mature' as long as she doesn't try too hard to and force it.

I think MGY is similar to the actress that played Mishil in QSD. I forget the name but they both have the same voice and both has strong screen presense. Plus both are great actress.

Just curious - does Moon Geun-young have a personal qualm against smoking or is where the play being hosted have a smoking ban? (I ask because of all the "smoking" with an unlit cig.)

^ thats since some ppl dont like to smoke...
and the smoke form the cig gives "some" people headaches..
and im sure they dont want to promote people to smoke
and she probably doesn't smoke or want to get lung cancer anytime soon

@hereorthere:No smoking and violence on stage...even in TV commercial. Korea has strict laws which deals with people concerns.
@Kiara: Go Hyun Jung definitely a great actress for her generation...now GY. they are talented and have looks and point of few.. I love them.

@chessy03: of course, she does not like to be called " a national little sister" forever. She has to grow up.
Just imagine you are 23 and have nearly graduated from college, and going to looking forward to have a young adult professional life out there, people around you still consider you as a little baby, a late teen-age.

Its time for her to do this kind of role, she is already in the right age and her tittle "Little Sister" doesn't suit her anymore. She is old enough now.
What i like about her is she is not afraid to take a big step to change her image and I also think she is doing it smoothly.
I just hope they will remake this play as a movie. I really wanted to see MGY in this kind of character. (^_^)

Ooh Ho Ho, I really want to see there in Korea but, oh well, I am still in America, of course.
Moon Geun Young seem very different when she's acting on a stage like that -- she's already young as a adult now. Ah, I am sure that she might try to drag the "nation little sister" down and blow away -- Not anymore! ^__^
