Moon Geun-young in the stage play Closer

As previously noted, young actress Moon Geun-young is making her theater debut in the Korean production of Closer, the play that debuted in London in 1997. And, can I say, she looks absolutely stunning in these promotional photos.

Closer was adapted into a film in 2004 starring Clive Owen, Julia Roberts, Natalie Portman, and Jude Law. Moon and Eom Ki-joon (Job Well Done) portray the lovers Alice and Dan, played in the film by Portman and Law. Alice works as a stripper and is a free-spirited young woman, while Dan is a reporter who wants to be a novelist.

“I Like the Stage” Play Festival is an event co-sponsored by theater producers Aga Company and CJ Entertainment, as well as Moon’s own management company Namoo Actors. It runs from July through March 2011, and in those nine months, eight plays will run. This production of Closer is the second of those shows.

Closer opens on August 6 and runs through October 10 at Daehakro’s Art One Theater.

lol, did they have to make the poster look exactly the same as the American film version's? It almost looks like they're doing a parody...

Anyway, I loved the movie and I'm excited that MGY is taking on Natalie Portman's juicy role. Perfectly cast, IMO.

I dont understand stage play and Musical film. I hate Macbeth and other Shakespere plays. But MGY looks beautyful in there, playing a stripper is something new.

wow, she does look great. i'm usually not a fan of her but she seems like she grew up. wait, how old is she again?

i remember watching closer (when i was soo not the age to be watching it) with a friend and i thought it was raunchy. my main reason for being disgusted with clive owen. oh, my ignorance. anyways, isn't she too young for a role like this? though its a stage play, so maybe not.

I'm glad Moon Geun Young has gained weight. I'm not a huge fan of hers, but as one of the best actresses in Korea, she shouldn't be skinny and look unhealthy. It's weird seeing Eom Ki Joon without his eyeglasses. I was so used to him in Worlds within.

she looks gorgeous, and love her hair! I always wanted to have short curly hair like that, but I guess it won't happen if you don't style it everyday...and have rebellious hair like mine.

I never watch Closer...sounds interesting, must find the dvd.

I don't know why but it never occurred to me that I was too young to be watching Closer when it first came out. Must be because I was always dragged to the theatre at a very young age. First it was childrens theatre, then musicals and straight plays. As long as I get a tub of ice cream I'd be happy to come along and watch(or sleep). I remember getting all excited about The Deep Blue Sea by Terence Rattigan thinking it involved monsters, lol! But I remember being engrossed with the play after finding out what the deep blue sea in the play meant. As I said before, I didn't get to watch Closer then but I liked the film enough to wish I had seen the play. I guess it would make me an official MGY fanboy because I'd be happy to watch this version of the play(in Korean) just for her.

Ah.

As she matures, she looks more like a 20-something Go Hyun Jung. And as Go Hyun Jung opens up to the public, she looks more like a 30-something Moon Geun Young.

I love Closer... The Movie...
And also damn that song that gets me everytime I listen to it... The Blower's Daughter...

I wish I was in Korea to see how they put a Korean spin to it...

Yeah, in a way, Closer can be pretty raunchy in a mindf*** kinda way... but I like how the characters was portrayed, selfish and helplessness and all... I like how things are depicted in it...

@ 9; I bet there are many kinds of musicals and plays... its just finding something that suits our taste... :)

i love that movie... closer. i also love Moon Geun Young but i don't think the role fits her. there's a certain vulnerability that alice ayres posessed. i hope Moon Geun Young delivers well.

The movie is absolutely atrocious. As a Jude Law and Natalie Portman fan, I HATED it. The only real redeeming role was Natalie and that still isn't saying much.

I hear the stage version is amazing, though. Interesting how different they can be. I hope to hear more of how this stage version is.

Hmmm... I wonder how "the nation's dong-saeng" who's had her first kiss on-screen (if I recall correctly) in "Cinderella unnie", will manage to portray a convincing stripper character.

She is all grown up now.
I've become her fan after watching Painter of the Wind since then I started to follow her career and I'm glad she took this role. But I still want her to do a rom-com drama, her age still in the tracks to do that kind of drama.

I didnt see the play, the movie, I did not hate, but it's not well-casted at all.
MGY can pull it off. She's my girl. I'm so happy for her to give stage a try.

@poo, by the rest, you mean the rest of the actors and all the crew working behind the production?!
FYI, Eom Ki-joon, though in the shallow end of things is not handsome imo, is a terrific, show-stealing actor.

I'm not really a fan of heavy makeup, stylized hair and so forth.

MGY has come a long way since A Tale of Two Sisters (2003). She was impossibly cute, and the behind-the-scenes stuff made her seem very innocent and child-like.
