Moon Geun-young’s play sells out in 2 minutes
by javabeans
Tickets went on sale on Thursday for Closer, the stage play starring Moon Geun-young in her theater debut with co-star Eom Ki-joon, and sold out in 2 minutes for its first show.
That puts Moon’s selling power on comparable levels with top idol stars; two other productions that sold out with similar speed were the musical Mozart, thanks to the name draw of Xiah Junsu, and the Goong musical, thanks to U-Know Yunho.
Moon Geun-young alone would be reason enough to check out the play, but part of the interest, I’m sure, comes from the strip-dancing her character performs in the play. I wouldn’t call the interest necessarily prurient, but driven by curiosity; Moon grew up in the public eye and has successfully made the transition to adult actress, and has done so without playing on a sexual image or “sexy transformation.” (She attempted a sexier image once in her late teens but the public wasn’t buying it, since she still had such a strong “cute” image.) Therefore this play is the first time she’ll be portraying an overtly sexy/sexual adult role.
Closer will open on August 6 and runs through October 10.
Below are a few photos snapped behind the scenes at rehearsals.

Maybe it's that I'm of the slightly younger generation who hasn't really seen past performances of Moon Geun-young as a "little sister", but I think she's fitting in her adult role fairly well. What I saw in Cinderella's Sister, and from the pictures of the movie, she seems fairly mature and capable.

@2 Yeah, it's the same Closer. It was a play originally. I'm not sure if and how the play and movie differ.

Aw! I could have to go to theatre and enjoy watching these actors and actresses at "Closer" in Korea, but I still live in USA, of course. ^___^
I am really fam of Moon Geun Young, yupz! I am very impressed by her because she's finally trying into "sexy" adult maturity role for her first-time in her show "Closer", yeaaa! (claps) Good luck! =)

I think MG perfect for the role as Alice. Even thought Alice is a stripper there is an innocence there about her. When closer 1st came out in the US and had a hard time picturing Natalie Portman as a stripper. Then I saw the movie and understood the balance the director was trying to make and thought she was well casted. I think this is same for MG

she was so cute in my little bride (which i saw after cinderella's sister, and got so tacken aback by her because i hadn't pegged her as so cute, but more mature). like that whimsical little dance when she looks up at the big expanse of the wall she has to paint? soo adorable. i kind of think she's amazing with the range she's shown.

LOVE the the picture at the bottom right hahaha! The first time I saw Moon Geun Young was in Innocent Steps; she looked so fragile in it! I was shocked when people in a restaurant thought I was her (no resemblance whatsoever...)! It's true that she gives a very cute image of her (not on purpose).
Well, she is one of the best actresses (if not the best) of her generation! Best of luck with her play! I'm sure it'll be a hit ^^. Tickets are sold out, now she just has to do as always: act ^^.

The early success comes as hardly a surprise. She's cast her "bread" upon the waters so many times, and it's coming back more than a a thousand-fold!
Best wishes and hopes for happiness regarding all of the dreams dreamed by this special young lady...
