Kim Haneul follows “To Heaven” with “I Was Happy”
by javabeans
Eleven years after starring in a famous music video for a song by ballad singer Jo Sung-mo, actress and hair-envy provocateur Kim Haneul is again taking the lead role for the singer’s latest MV.
When she starred in Jo’s 1998 “To Heaven” video alongside Lee Byung-heon, Kim Haneul was a relative unknown who gained a lot of exposure when the MV (and song) proved to be a massive hit. So when Jo Sung-mo asked Kim Haneul to appear in his newest video, she agreed right away. She’ll star in the MV for the title track “I Was Happy” [행복했었다] off Jo’s comeback album (his last full-length release was four years ago with “Second Half”).
Most MVs are passing affairs, but “To Heaven” is a bit of an exception, and is still memorable as one of those prime examples of kpop’s fixation with awesomely melodramatic, over-the-top and tragic storylines. (Watch below.) It had a cinematic flair and grand scope, as well as an ending that left an impression. The video even spawned a remake (for the recent song “To the Hospital”), although that was pretty much a flop.
The “I Was Happy” MV shoots on April 3. Meanwhile, Kim Haneul’s upcoming romantic-comedy spy movie with Kang Ji-hwan, Level 7 Civil Servant, opens on the 23rd.

Kim Haneul so lucky being casted along those roster of stars. But in fairness, for being relatively new, she gave a very good acting. After 10 years, she remains beautiful and doesn't seem to have aged at all.

"hair-envy provocateur" is right. I've always wondered...is that all her real hair or does she have hair extensions?

wow, that MV was made 11 years ago and KHN looks pretty the same as now.
That is the good thing about old vids. But I would almost swear that she has become prettier lately and had something(s) fixed (?), because I remember thinking that she was not that pretty in Romance with KJW. It looks like my memory is very selective and subjective.

The delicious flair for words by JB continues; "hair-envy provocateur Kim Haneul ..." is it just the hair, I wonder?
Coincidentally, I was watching Pops In Seoul with the sassy, perky/quirky and erstwhile fashionable Isak last night, and they had a segment about the relationship between OSTs and movies/dramas, and OST MVs and movies/dramas, and actors/actresses. No real earth-shaking revelations though, I was a little bit disappointed. But the synergistic effects among MVs, OSTs and movies/dramas is evident - these things feed off of one another.
Also coincident to the above, I am currently watching/listening to the MV Byul by Kim Ah Joong from 200 lb Beauty, pretty much on infinite repeat on my commute, on my iPod, as I chuckle over memories of the cute scenes from the movie (so many memorable scenes). Both my wife and I were quite surprised by the likeability power of the movie, despite its simplicity and somewhat dubious story line. Watching that movie, and My Sassy Girl, this week, really has raised my expectations a bit on Korean movies and dramas.....
....and so Sweet Spy came in the mail, and we were all so excited. We are on Episode 4, but so far it has been a rather huge disappointment. The lack of acting chops from Daniel Henney - oops I mean Dennis Oh (O'Neil) and the weird somewhat incestuous ensemble cast - (Nam Sang Mi with Choi Bool Am from Gourmet ; Lee Ki Yeol with Kim Il Woo from Super Rookie), just makes it difficult to believe the characters. I keep waiting for Kim Rae Won to show up in his Sung Chan Produce Truck, or maybe Eric Mun to appear and then piss off Lee Ki Yeol / Kim Il Woo. And what's with the Australian actors trying to play American officials? Can they at least hide their Australian accents a little?
A good meter of whether the drama is any good is if my wife stays awake beyond the second episode, and sadly, she fell asleep almost immediately. What's even more sad is that fact that she missed almost nothing.

By the by, I first saw Kim Haneul in the 2000 drama, Bimil, and I couldn't say that I was that impressed by her? I guess I'll have to watch Stained Glass or On Air to see if she has improved at all...

Not to say that she was telling the truth, but Lee Hyori (another great hair girl) had a recent televised interview during a phot shoot and she said that she uses wax when she does her own hair (at least for that photo shoot, she swore she did her own hair).
If any asian guys in Javabeans Land care about their hair, I recommend going away from any gel product and going with wax too - adds body and fullness without clumping or shiny stickiness (if you blow it out thereafter)- products like D:Fi. However, I admit that I don't use wax anymore, but I use KMS Hair Play (molding paste not hyper paste), which is not that cheap, but you only need a little bit.

Me too, even though I'm a fan of Haneul I also think Stained Glass is kinda boring, I stop watching at episode 10. The drama had too many cliche moments that made me realise that I might be wasting my time so I have to stop... hue hehehe... I would recommend Too Beautiful Too Lie (movie) & On Air though, if you're into complex personality kind of characters... ^^

some of you guys are wondering why Ha neul looks prettier now than her "romance" days. I think it's due to the hair style. She has always been a pure natural beauty. Her hair style back then was not good. She looks younger and perkier with short hair though. In "stained glass" her hair was nice too. But since "on air" she had grown so beautifully. She looks really good with long hair. She should not cut her hair again. Though i dont think she looks young for her age. Her face always seems to look mature for me.

I have to say I also have Kim Hanuel hair envy. I think she currently has the best hair for in the land of kpop actresses.
I personally never thought she was very attractive but more girl next door type, however, sometime after "On Air" which I never saw due to lack of interest I couldn't believe how glam she got. Her skin and her hair radiates and oozes sexiness.

Her face is too big to have short hair. Kim Ha Neul is radiantly sexy with her luscious long hair!

Wow! That's one hell of a MV-a drama condensed into 6 minutes. Five years after my Kdrama addiction started, it's fun to go back to older works and pick out familiar actors. :)
