We have good ones, yes. But none in my area.. I live in the suburbs which is mostly a residential area and the really good ones are in the more commercial zones.. Also the really good bakeries are really expensive!
I don’t go often though.. I love home-made food more than anything else so I only eat cakes/pastries on birthdays, some times when we eat out and the very rare times I bake at home- mostly eggless chocolate or apple cake..

Yup! My grandmom is a pure vegetarian… and if I am baking something, she always wants to try and gets irritated if I even think of making anything with eggs! Tastes good though.. I put home-made curd and a bit of milk.. it doesn’t fluff up as much but tastes really nice and doesn’t have that eggy smell

I made a lot of banana bread and apple cake when I was in uni, since we always had a lot of both and they were easy to make.
Technically, ice cream is my favorite dessert, but I’m really game for pretty much anything but a fruit plate. (I mean, fruit is nice, but if you really care about me you’ll give me something that will shorten my lifespan also.)
Ah yes, nice! We have four apple trees and every second year we get a bumper crop so… needless to say there’s a lot of apple desserts. haha

Yeah, my aunt used to send me massive bags of apples from her trees in uni so we’d have loads (but there were six of us in our house so they got eaten). Many many apple pies and cakes were made.
There’s nothing wrong with fruit, per se. As I get older I appreciate it more, and I love my seasonal fruits. (Tomorrow is farmer’s market day and I’ve been loving the end of season peaches and raspberries which have been particularly good this year.) But my mother thinks it’s acceptable to cut up an apple and call that dessert. I’ve let her know I’ll have none of that nonsense when I’m at home.

Ah so what happened was that I got 4 episodes in and got overly invested in Sunbae and her chef, and so wanted to see if it ended well (possibly because I didn’t have time to finish it, or it was a bit slow at the beginning or something)… so I skimmed the recaps just for her part of the story.

I’m pretty chill when it comes to spoilers. Sometimes I like none if it’s the day that I will watch something, but if it’s a few episodes ahead and I’m catching up then more and more I’m like ‘eh’.

I actually tend to hold back on voicing my love for K-dramas and K-pop culture to people unless we’re friends or like, click really well. If I’m comfortable with a person and we end up talking about interests and shows, then I’ll probably share my love for all things SK, but if it’s like an icebreaker between classmates or coworkers, I probably wouldn’t announce it in front of everyone, despite many many tempting moments in the past!

Bus buddies were/are the best though. Funny how you can like only be friends with someone on a school bus and not at school but sometimes it works. Man, good times on the school bus for me, not gonna lie. I used to hate the bus as a smaller kid, but in High School I liked it 😛 Especially my last year, when I was often the only senior without a car, so I’d be 1 senior with a bunch of my junior friends on the back seat of the bus like ‘pls I am the oldest respect me’ lol 😛 but in a nice teasing way… I hope 😀 haha
I saw the pic of the pack you posted a little lower down after reading this. I actually really like that ramen. It’s a little bit like the cadillac of pack ramen. Had this, then I had Nissin ramen. It’s difficult to go back to Nissin. The quality of the noodles alone is so much better let alone the seasoning and dried veggies that come with it. Have you tried the black pack one? Have you ever tried adding Ajitsuke Tamago (seasoned boiled egg) to it? ? I wonder how this would taste with a little gochugaru. Ah jeeze, I need this in my life now.
Ahahaha the cadillac of pack ramen, so true!! The quality of noodles is so good! Comparitively to other kinds of minute noodles in NZ… Shin just has way better noodles.
Oh I forgot, I also add a boiled egg hehe. It’s not really seasoned though… maybe I should try that?? Still learning things about Ramen though. So I haven’t had the black pack yet… is it spicier?
I sort of just make do with what I have, rather than make anything super official haha.

I can’t remember it being any spicier–but then again I have a high tolerance for spicy food. I think I’m mixing them up though. How many spice packs does the red one have? I think the black one has three (3): two (2) soup bases and one (1) dried veggie pack. It’s creamier and I think the noodles are a bit different too.
I absolutely love Ajitsuke Tamago. They’re so good, you can eat them by themselves. It’s Japanese though, but it’s a nice fusion.

Pffft Ramen is Japanese originally I believe. Ramyun is just the Korean version. Although I just looked it up and some people think it might be Chinese in origin so it’s basically fusion already 😛
I’m such an idiot. I was replying to your post and then got a msg that I posted too many links. Argh. I should have copied my post before posting it. Oh well. I’ll have to post the links separately. So, I think I posted something to the effect of:
I love food! lol. I think you’re right on the Ramyun being influenced by Japanese Ramen. China and Europe have influenced much of Asian cooking I think. Jajangmyeon has Chinese influence. The really fancy versions of Omurice is a french omelette over rice, although I’ve never seen the same version in Korean cooking–it’s more a crepe-like omelette.
Sake is not all that necessary to make Tamago. You can make Shoyu Tamago which I love. The recipe will be in the reply below this. The only problem with that recipe is that it calls for a good amount of mirin. Speaking of mirin, be careful of the one you use. Some of them are pretty much glorified sugar water. I’ll include a link describing the difference between aji and hon mirin. Hopefully your brother got the latter. I’ve been told a good brand to use is Eden–I’ve used it myself. Either way, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem with the mirin you use.
I hope you can try it. Let me know how it turns out if you do. Happy cooking/experimenting!
Also forgot to say, I really don’t like the Nongshim Shin Big Bowl Ramyun, although I don’t know why it got so many good reviews on Amazon. The reason I don’t like it is because the noodles aren’t good. You should still try one if ever given the opportunity just to see though.

I just went and checked and it is ‘Takara Hon Mirin’ so yay, the good one. I think Takara is the brand? But I can’t read Japanese so I don’t know for sure *shrugs* I don’t know where you live but I wouldn’t be surprised if NZ (where I am) has different imported brands to you guys (wherever you are).

According to the internet, looks like you got some really good mirin there. I’m a bit jealous now. Yeah, Takara seems to be the brand name. I live in the Americas, so we don’t get too much of the good stuff, at least where I’m at, or it’s really difficult to find.
I just like all things food. For the past year or so I’ve been really into Asian cooking. I sometimes make my own ramen from scratch (Shio, Shoyu, and Miso–I don’t like Tonkatsu very much, or at least the one I made), oyakodon, kimchi, many different kinds of fried rice, samgyeopsal-gui, fried chicken (치킨 and karaage) etc. Wish I could make a really good Pho Bo, but I tend to have to settle for Pho Ga at home. 😞 I’m going to try to make Jajangmyeon for the first time tomorrow. Hope it comes out good.

Those are Melona popsicles. A Korean honeydew melon flavoured popsicle that are QUITE POSSIBLY the BEST popsicles in the world (hyperbole intended). Funnily enough I first had them in Colorado when we went to the Asian Mart there, but in Korea there was a 7/11 right next to my hostel and I had at least two a day (not kidding). And THEN I found out that the new Asian supermarket in my area has them… oh boy. I bought a whole box. And now I am addicted to them. And they also do mango ones and strawberry ones that taste like strawberry milk and… my point? HOW COULD YOU DROP THREE PERFECTLY GOOD MELONA POPSICLES ON THE GROUND! HOW COULD YOU. THAT’S SUCH A WASTE OF SUCH A GOOD ICE BAR!!!! I got so mad, so sad when I saw that… *smh*

Personally, whilst I like both the strawberry and mango (haven’t had the banana yet), I still come back to the Melon one… but! If they’re sold individually, just get one of each! hehe

I HAD to find the rant that is sending Beanies into a frenzy looking for them! I LOVE Melona Bars! One of my friends from uni gave me one (on a rare hot summer day) after buying a box to restock his fridge. I just handed it to my mom (who was waiting to pick me up), and by the time I came back (not even a minute later) she had finished it. But Melona bars! They are by far the most underrated ice cream at the Asian supermarkets UNTIL you try them! 😋😉

Yep, you’re definitely not the only one that feels that way. I can kind of understand you guys, even though I’m not an Army. Like, K-dramas and like, K-pop culture has such a special place in my heart that when I see how popular it all is, a part of me’s like, “That’s amazing,” but another part of me’s also like, “Ehhh, but I don’t really want it to be that big.” But that’s really just the negative and jealous part of me that I’m not very proud of.

I said it as an idiom but now that I think about there’s a 80+% chance that there is a ‘My Cat reacts to Kpop/BTS’ video.
Well no. I don’t think it’s always a negative thing to think like that. I think we all think that about the things we like. We don’t really want it to become mainstream. And also, particularly with BTS, and K-culture, but with everything, the more followers something has, the more haters their are, and more judgement because of that bigger fanbase. Thus there is more toxicity and less authenticity, when people just use it for views, click bait, or to be “in trend”.
I’m very glad that Block B and FTI have very niche fanbases, because there is less of that. And also my metal music. Metal music is super niche, and metal heads have been round for years, but Metal is not “mainstream” and it’s often refreshing? Because you know people are only there because they like metal, and not because it’s the thing to like and follow.
So I totally get that sentiment towards Kpop. I like that the world is slowly learning about the music of other cultures but I don’t like HOW it’s learning about them
Take for example, Despacito. Latin Pop song, made popular because of Justin Bieber. And you have people all shocked that it’s so big and I’m like ‘Latin Pop is huge, so is South American, and it’s fanbase is crazy and yet you people are surprised that it’s so big please educate yourself on the world.’ Same goes with Kpop. People are surprised that this is a big thing, and it’s like YOURS IS NOT THE ONLY COUNTRY THAT EXISTS. So whilst I WANT people to know that other tv and music exists, to expand their cultural mind set, I’m also like ‘is it worth it for their ignorance to impede on something I enjoy?’ which I guess… hahaha is a bit asshole-ish of me but yeah.
Anyway, sorry, rant over haha

We have good ones, yes. But none in my area.. I live in the suburbs which is mostly a residential area and the really good ones are in the more commercial zones.. Also the really good bakeries are really expensive!
I don’t go often though.. I love home-made food more than anything else so I only eat cakes/pastries on birthdays, some times when we eat out and the very rare times I bake at home- mostly eggless chocolate or apple cake..

I made a lot of banana bread and apple cake when I was in uni, since we always had a lot of both and they were easy to make.
Technically, ice cream is my favorite dessert, but I’m really game for pretty much anything but a fruit plate. (I mean, fruit is nice, but if you really care about me you’ll give me something that will shorten my lifespan also.)

Yeah, my aunt used to send me massive bags of apples from her trees in uni so we’d have loads (but there were six of us in our house so they got eaten). Many many apple pies and cakes were made.
There’s nothing wrong with fruit, per se. As I get older I appreciate it more, and I love my seasonal fruits. (Tomorrow is farmer’s market day and I’ve been loving the end of season peaches and raspberries which have been particularly good this year.) But my mother thinks it’s acceptable to cut up an apple and call that dessert. I’ve let her know I’ll have none of that nonsense when I’m at home.

Episode 2 finished tonight. I don’t know what was more fun, the drama, or making snarky comments whenever Han Gyeol did something. (In the nicest possible way. We both love him ok)

Ah so what happened was that I got 4 episodes in and got overly invested in Sunbae and her chef, and so wanted to see if it ended well (possibly because I didn’t have time to finish it, or it was a bit slow at the beginning or something)… so I skimmed the recaps just for her part of the story.
So you could say I went looking for spoilers? hahahaha
I’m pretty chill when it comes to spoilers. Sometimes I like none if it’s the day that I will watch something, but if it’s a few episodes ahead and I’m catching up then more and more I’m like ‘eh’.
But like you say it really depends on what it is. 🙂
But then there isn’t the same connection you know, I’d like to watch it with the beanies who are watching it at the moment. Not that not watching it has stopped me for commenting on posts hahaha

One time in high school, I met this girl on my bus and we really hit it off, and she tells me she has this Korean friend and I’m all like, “Oh wow, that’s cool,” and she was like, “yeah, so do you like K-pop?” and I was like, “Yeah! *freaks out*” We kept talking about K-pop and probably K-dramas, and then she was all like, “Oh, btw, I don’t actually have a Korean friend. I just said that because I thought you were Korean and I wanted to talk about K-pop with you.” Lawl. True story.

Oh dear, idk where this comment is going, but hope you’ll be able to follow.
I actually tend to hold back on voicing my love for K-dramas and K-pop culture to people unless we’re friends or like, click really well. If I’m comfortable with a person and we end up talking about interests and shows, then I’ll probably share my love for all things SK, but if it’s like an icebreaker between classmates or coworkers, I probably wouldn’t announce it in front of everyone, despite many many tempting moments in the past!
And HA, ikr? It was so weird, but I thought it was cute that she even went outta the way to make up a friend/lie just to talk to me–about something that I really really like, no less!
Nah, we were only bus buddies. Idk where she is now, but I hope she’s doing well.

Sometimes with strangers I adopt a ‘I’m weird deal with it’ icebreaker mood so I drop all sorts of things, but usually I’d warm up to the person before dropping the Korea bomb haha.
Bus buddies were/are the best though. Funny how you can like only be friends with someone on a school bus and not at school but sometimes it works. Man, good times on the school bus for me, not gonna lie. I used to hate the bus as a smaller kid, but in High School I liked it 😛 Especially my last year, when I was often the only senior without a car, so I’d be 1 senior with a bunch of my junior friends on the back seat of the bus like ‘pls I am the oldest respect me’ lol 😛 but in a nice teasing way… I hope 😀 haha

I saw the pic of the pack you posted a little lower down after reading this. I actually really like that ramen. It’s a little bit like the cadillac of pack ramen. Had this, then I had Nissin ramen. It’s difficult to go back to Nissin. The quality of the noodles alone is so much better let alone the seasoning and dried veggies that come with it. Have you tried the black pack one? Have you ever tried adding Ajitsuke Tamago (seasoned boiled egg) to it? ? I wonder how this would taste with a little gochugaru. Ah jeeze, I need this in my life now.

Ahahaha the cadillac of pack ramen, so true!! The quality of noodles is so good! Comparitively to other kinds of minute noodles in NZ… Shin just has way better noodles.
Oh I forgot, I also add a boiled egg hehe. It’s not really seasoned though… maybe I should try that?? Still learning things about Ramen though. So I haven’t had the black pack yet… is it spicier?
I sort of just make do with what I have, rather than make anything super official haha.

I can’t remember it being any spicier–but then again I have a high tolerance for spicy food. I think I’m mixing them up though. How many spice packs does the red one have? I think the black one has three (3): two (2) soup bases and one (1) dried veggie pack. It’s creamier and I think the noodles are a bit different too.
I absolutely love Ajitsuke Tamago. They’re so good, you can eat them by themselves. It’s Japanese though, but it’s a nice fusion.

Pffft Ramen is Japanese originally I believe. Ramyun is just the Korean version. Although I just looked it up and some people think it might be Chinese in origin so it’s basically fusion already 😛

I’m such an idiot. I was replying to your post and then got a msg that I posted too many links. Argh. I should have copied my post before posting it. Oh well. I’ll have to post the links separately. So, I think I posted something to the effect of:
I love food! lol. I think you’re right on the Ramyun being influenced by Japanese Ramen. China and Europe have influenced much of Asian cooking I think. Jajangmyeon has Chinese influence. The really fancy versions of Omurice is a french omelette over rice, although I’ve never seen the same version in Korean cooking–it’s more a crepe-like omelette.
Sake is not all that necessary to make Tamago. You can make Shoyu Tamago which I love. The recipe will be in the reply below this. The only problem with that recipe is that it calls for a good amount of mirin. Speaking of mirin, be careful of the one you use. Some of them are pretty much glorified sugar water. I’ll include a link describing the difference between aji and hon mirin. Hopefully your brother got the latter. I’ve been told a good brand to use is Eden–I’ve used it myself. Either way, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem with the mirin you use.
I hope you can try it. Let me know how it turns out if you do. Happy cooking/experimenting!

Also forgot to say, I really don’t like the Nongshim Shin Big Bowl Ramyun, although I don’t know why it got so many good reviews on Amazon. The reason I don’t like it is because the noodles aren’t good. You should still try one if ever given the opportunity just to see though.

I just went and checked and it is ‘Takara Hon Mirin’ so yay, the good one. I think Takara is the brand? But I can’t read Japanese so I don’t know for sure *shrugs* I don’t know where you live but I wouldn’t be surprised if NZ (where I am) has different imported brands to you guys (wherever you are).
Because we all like different things and have different tastes buds? And just because something is popular doesn’t mean one will like it haha.
I haven’t had it although I do believe it is available at our local Asian supermarket so I will definitely try it out at some point.

According to the internet, looks like you got some really good mirin there. I’m a bit jealous now. Yeah, Takara seems to be the brand name. I live in the Americas, so we don’t get too much of the good stuff, at least where I’m at, or it’s really difficult to find.
I just like all things food. For the past year or so I’ve been really into Asian cooking. I sometimes make my own ramen from scratch (Shio, Shoyu, and Miso–I don’t like Tonkatsu very much, or at least the one I made), oyakodon, kimchi, many different kinds of fried rice, samgyeopsal-gui, fried chicken (치킨 and karaage) etc. Wish I could make a really good Pho Bo, but I tend to have to settle for Pho Ga at home. 😞 I’m going to try to make Jajangmyeon for the first time tomorrow. Hope it comes out good.

Those are Melona popsicles. A Korean honeydew melon flavoured popsicle that are QUITE POSSIBLY the BEST popsicles in the world (hyperbole intended). Funnily enough I first had them in Colorado when we went to the Asian Mart there, but in Korea there was a 7/11 right next to my hostel and I had at least two a day (not kidding). And THEN I found out that the new Asian supermarket in my area has them… oh boy. I bought a whole box. And now I am addicted to them. And they also do mango ones and strawberry ones that taste like strawberry milk and… my point? HOW COULD YOU DROP THREE PERFECTLY GOOD MELONA POPSICLES ON THE GROUND! HOW COULD YOU. THAT’S SUCH A WASTE OF SUCH A GOOD ICE BAR!!!! I got so mad, so sad when I saw that… *smh*

Moral: Try Melona popsicles. They’re amazing. I only have two left in my freezer though… :’(

I HAD to find the rant that is sending Beanies into a frenzy looking for them! I LOVE Melona Bars! One of my friends from uni gave me one (on a rare hot summer day) after buying a box to restock his fridge. I just handed it to my mom (who was waiting to pick me up), and by the time I came back (not even a minute later) she had finished it. But Melona bars! They are by far the most underrated ice cream at the Asian supermarkets UNTIL you try them! 😋😉

Yep, you’re definitely not the only one that feels that way. I can kind of understand you guys, even though I’m not an Army. Like, K-dramas and like, K-pop culture has such a special place in my heart that when I see how popular it all is, a part of me’s like, “That’s amazing,” but another part of me’s also like, “Ehhh, but I don’t really want it to be that big.” But that’s really just the negative and jealous part of me that I’m not very proud of.

I said it as an idiom but now that I think about there’s a 80+% chance that there is a ‘My Cat reacts to Kpop/BTS’ video.
Well no. I don’t think it’s always a negative thing to think like that. I think we all think that about the things we like. We don’t really want it to become mainstream. And also, particularly with BTS, and K-culture, but with everything, the more followers something has, the more haters their are, and more judgement because of that bigger fanbase. Thus there is more toxicity and less authenticity, when people just use it for views, click bait, or to be “in trend”.
I’m very glad that Block B and FTI have very niche fanbases, because there is less of that. And also my metal music. Metal music is super niche, and metal heads have been round for years, but Metal is not “mainstream” and it’s often refreshing? Because you know people are only there because they like metal, and not because it’s the thing to like and follow.
So I totally get that sentiment towards Kpop. I like that the world is slowly learning about the music of other cultures but I don’t like HOW it’s learning about them
Take for example, Despacito. Latin Pop song, made popular because of Justin Bieber. And you have people all shocked that it’s so big and I’m like ‘Latin Pop is huge, so is South American, and it’s fanbase is crazy and yet you people are surprised that it’s so big please educate yourself on the world.’ Same goes with Kpop. People are surprised that this is a big thing, and it’s like YOURS IS NOT THE ONLY COUNTRY THAT EXISTS. So whilst I WANT people to know that other tv and music exists, to expand their cultural mind set, I’m also like ‘is it worth it for their ignorance to impede on something I enjoy?’ which I guess… hahaha is a bit asshole-ish of me but yeah.

Runaway is good too! I need to give it one more listen all the way through. I didn’t really have time this morning before leaving for work to really listen attentively. In Love was a definite stand out track though. It caught my attention instantly. Sadly, NOT a fan of the song with Mino.

I’m not not a fan… but it’s one of my least favourites on the album… it’s just sort of there… at the moment anyway.
I love the lyrics of Runaway. They almost made me cry.
