Beanie level: The Goblin’s underpants

I need to temper my expectations for Temperature of Love now. First episode seems too good to be true. Yang Se-jong got skills. The writing, the vibe, everything just worked.

Live Up to Your Name ep 12. So good in so many ways. Then there\’s that ending. This show & its episodes\’ endings. Regardless, I loved Dr. Choi most in this ep. So much growth as a character. 😌

What should I do?
A. Catch up to Save Me (12 eps.).
B. Catch up to Strongest Deliveryman (4 eps.).
C. Surf web aimlessly \’til Live Up To Your Name subs come out.
D. Go work out.

6
11

    I’d probably go with B 😁

    1
    1

I ended up going with D. It was a good choice in the end because I feel great and I’m in a really good mood to watch K-dramas. So I’m off to do C followed by B, maybe. 😄

      4

    B!
But D is cool I guess 😂 Does it include a kdrama podcast?
OoOo Save Me is hard to binge. It’s so stressful and Soo good.

Dang, I’m in trouble then. I planned to binge it three nights this week. I need to get some wireless headphones–have the new iPhone which doesn’t have a headphone jack, and that sucks. Listening to a k-drama podcast sounds like just the thing to fill the time/workout. Besides this one, you have any others in mind?

      1
      2

Wireless earphones are a must in gym (I’ve learned the hard, expensive way when I dropped my phone) I’ve tried drama-watching and podcast while on treadmill, I can’t help but laugh/get teary/make weird noises which the person beside me didn’t appreciate so much 😂 So I just listen to music on wireless 😉

        2
        0

You’re in for some awesomeness but sussspense. Oh ugh that new iPhone headphone jack drives me crazy. Thanks apple now I can’t charge my phone and listen to my headphones without a $60 adapter that doesn’t even work.
Mmmm..in the regular I listen to kdramas my eyes out. Canadian Korean besties. I actually haven’t checked out DB’s yet. Do you like it?

        0
        1

Cool, I’ll check them out. The one here is cool. They do a review of the dramas by season, so they put a bunch of dramas together and talk about them in one go. I wish they had a separate podcast for each show too, like whoever is doing the recaps could be a podcast at the end or something. It’s a lot of work, I know, especially for people like @lollypip who do multiple show recaps. So I don’t expect it here. That’s why I was looking for other places too.

          1
          0

Ha! I joined a gym that has Wifi so I can pick D, hop on a machine while rotating among A., B., C.!

    2
    1

😂 That’s awesome! I might only be able to get in as much video time as I’m on the treadmill though. The upside is that the time will go by in the blink of an eye. Doing that during weight training would result in some really long rest periods though. 🙁

Ah jeeze, I knew I should have waited till tomorrow to watch Live Up to Your Name ep 11. With an ending like that, so many possibilities. This really is quite a good show.

I’m getting pretty desperate too. So many shows start to drag around this point, but this has gradually gotten better and better. And now I can’t handle the wait!

This was fantastic! Kangana Ranaut never fails to change the narrative & take a jibe at the stereotypes in the industry! She is one of my favourites!

But.. does this mean ur Indian too? or just know Hindi? Or did the subs suffice?!

I have some Indian in me somewhere and nope, don’t speak a lick of Hindi.

Since you were talking about Kangana Ranaut, I looked her up and watched bits and pieces of some of her interviews. She comes off as a really strong woman. Her life story is pretty intense. She also seems to be a really good actor.

        1
        1

I love the vague ‘Indian somewhere ‘.. the more the mix the funner it is.. I hope it was for you.. for nee it’s the excitement of the numerous different cultures ! ^_^

Oh Kangana is definitely intense and doesn’t pull back her punches.. but to be fair she has really battled hard in the Bollywood industry to succeed.. to overcome not just nepotism but prejudices against get cuz she was from a small town with a poor command over English. She sure is a fabulous & versatile actor.. you smile when she smiles! Try the movie Queen.. it’s such a lovely heartfelt story of a small-town girl finding her footing after her fiance jilts her.

Haha.. some.. but more of a Hrithik Roshan & Karan Johar smackdown.. not sure if you know so the ridiculous controversies and rubbish witch has spewed.. lot of nepotism.. blatant sexism etc

      1
      1

I did sense a little Hrithik in there as well. I looked briefly at some of the background issues that influenced the video.

Reading the comments for Hospital Ship on Soompi forums and DramaFever, I would swear I\’m to only one who doesn\’t like that show–I know I\’m not. Is DB the only place for sane ppl!?

Lol! Oh well.. I never did consider myself properly sane.. so might explain how I’m enjoying it!

Neither am I to be honest. I guess it’s that people are using positive superlatives to describe this drama and I really don’t get it. For me it started off as a guilty pleasure, and it was for like the first episode. It was so ridiculous that it as good. But then its running on fumes for me. Episodes 11 and 12 were where I drew the line. Dramas really are subjective. I have a few I love and people look at me like I’m crazy when I gush about them. So I get that. I hope you enjoy the rest of the ride. Really hope I’m not missing out on that romance. I really liked Hyun. Argh.

      0
      1

Haha! Hyun is a great part of the reason why I like show! ^_^

It’s not a fabulous you have to watch it kinda show.. but decent standard entertainment.. I do enjoy it.

I’m not surprised you don’t love it but am surprised that it’s not more popular at dramabeans.. I mean some really random shows with zero story line have been crazy popular here ( I’m looking at you moorim school)..i thought this one would be standard beanie fodder.. it has all the elements for it.. cute lad.. famous actress.. melo.. medical drama.. etc!

Freaking Hospital Ship puts the drama before the medicine and it\’s getting annoying. It\’s also trying to do a slice-of-life kinda thing mixed with a \’redemption\’ storyline. WTF!?

Are you hanging onto this albatross still??? I see pics that are just pretty, but no amount of pretty can get me back on board! I do feel tempted to just fast forward to see my military hotties and take screen shots of them the entire way through and just do appreciation posts, but then I think to myself, “I don’t want complete strangers to think I’m that shallow.” 😳 But then I think, “You’re way past that now, with how much you’ve lusted over Gong Yoo, Park Bo Gum, Kim Young Kwang, Hong Jong hyun…should I go on?”‘ ?

    2
    2

…Lee Je-hoon, Kim Jung-hyun, Ha Suk-jin, Park Seo-joon. Yup, I know the feeling. Your lust, although remote, is significantly more tangible than mine though, 😞.

Yup, still watching. The ratings ain’t bad though so there must be weirdos like me out there. I think I’ve pretty much conceded that it’s Eun-jae who’s sinking the ship. No amount of pretty can save the show with a character like her. I mean, I’ve seen the whole cold doctor thing before. The show needs more for me to hold on to if that’s their major pitch. Yet apparently I’m content to float in the ocean with my life preserver and I don’t know why.

      2
      1

I’m still watching and suffering too 🙁 Eun jae really annoyed me in episodes 9-10 too. I am mostly confused by her character – her motivations and moods seem all over the place. I was glad that Hyuk stood up to her and I sincerely hope the next episode isn’t her doing that surgery (tho with this drama she prob will and it will go great because who cares about reality. 😐 ) i like this drama when it shows the hospital ship doing its thing (we even got to see our dentist at work!) but then the surgery stuff comes along and it all goes to hell :/

Spoilers ahead. Well, more like my opinion of the next two episodes. I just watched the first 10 minutes of hospital ship ep 11 and I was so confused, annoyed, bewildered. Then I watched the episode in full. Halfway though episode 12 I was like ok, I’m done. Then I stupidly told myself, it’s just 15 more mins. Watch it out. I did. What a freaking waste. It takes melodrama to stupid levels. I’m seriously done now. Seriously. Off to watch Together With Me. Hopefully that will brighten my spirits.

            0

Hahahaha! I feel your pain… I dont really watch this as a medical drama but an enjoyable light slice of life drama. So I’m not as annoyed by it’s emphasis or inaccuracies etc!

Would a hospital let a doctor operate on a patient who is their relative IRL? I think not given the risk for emotions clouding judgement/increasing chance of mistakes. Hospital Ship\’s logic.

I still cannot get over the whole premise that surgeries are being done on a ship. Ships are in water, and water moves, people!

      Fantasy – magic – futuristic technology! 😉
but apparently stuff like this exists.. i find it super hard to believe it too though

How does a show manage to fit two (2) vehicle of dooms in a single episode, back to back!? Granted, one was a flash back, and you could see the other one come a mile away, but still, writers, come on!

4
6

Not gonna lie though, the flashback one caught me off-guard. I knew it was gonna happen, but it was so sudden and violent. I guess no one would be ok after witnessing something like that, especially at such a young age.

        1

Yeah, but you kinda have to see the episode to really understand the trauma. That’s kind of a good thing in that this isn’t too much of a spoiler for you, I hope.

Ok. Good. I don’t mind spoilers too much anyways. They’re kind of hard to avoid on the beanie wall 🙂

If someone who didn’t know anything about K-dramas were to ask me what’s the most common plot device in K-dramas, I would have to say the “truck/vehicle of doom.” I would also add, get used to it.

And the way every drama character no matter how young healthy and adept stands uselessly frosen in front of said truck of doom

Low blow Heo Im. Really dirty play. Ep 9 Live Up to Your Name

Tsundere characters–especially those in a melodrama–can really bring down a show over time. Given ep. 8\’s ending of Hospital Ship our yin-yang duo needs to get a move on!

1
0

Hospital Ship is good but I get the feeling that it would have been much better had it not been a melodrama. I\’m seriously looking forward to some medical fact checking of ep 5.

3
5

Hahahah! Oh cmon! You cant enjoy Hospital Ship if u expect it to check medical facts…! I mean such major surgery on a rocking boat at sea in a storm so bad that the coast guard cant come?!? What is the surgery room insulated to avoid/cancel vibrations/movement ala high end optical tables?!

My policy is treat it as a semi-fantasy drama and enjoy the performance!

    2
    1

I have suspended disbelief about the rocking boat thing from the get go. I’ve convinced myself that the ship uses some ridiculous high tech/futuristic dampeners that stabilise the operating rooms only. That and/or magic. But come on. It’s a medical show. I need to have some reality to grasp at with the diagnoses and operations at least. I mean, they are doing a pretty good job of depicting human nature with most of the cast. Help me along with the medical side as well.

      1
      1

Futuristic dampeners and tech sounds about right! I’m just gonna apply that to the medicine too.. did u notice that the hand wasnt even kept on ice while she was sowing it back on?! i rather not go there..!

        0
        1

lol. I think the other reason why I’m questioning the medical side of things is because there are beanies who work in the field who give their analysis. So whenever I read their comments on shows that are way less difficult to suspend disbelief and I think about I compare this show…😂

          1
          1

Ooh @purebristles posted this on the HS recap thread (only recently, so i think most of us missed it).. Cant figure out how to link the post, so copy pasting the comment:

“Actually hospital ships do conduct surgery — yes it’s not the most ideal conditions but if the ship is large enough and the weather calm enough, the ships are very stable. Do look at the amazing work folk are doing on the Africa Mercy https://www.mercyships.org/who-we-are/our-ships/the-africa-mercy/

Pretty amazing huh?! I checked out the site and they do all kinds of surgery on board! Wowzy.. didnt have time to check what kinda technology they use though..

Scenes like this make me want to see more of Kim Jung-hyun in the future.

Yes! I really like this too.

I love it whenever an actor tries his darnest to keep his emotions in instead of letting them out. I also appreciate the PD’s touch in reining in scenes like this. Less is more!
