The question we all wanted to ask(when we aren’t busy trying to choke Apostle Jo in our imagination).
So glad to have DC back! Woo Do Hwan is marvelous to watch, from a roughneck to a geeky student.
After the latest episode of “Save Me”, my question is – why does Sang Mi need to be rescued in this way when her mother is still held hostage? Do we need to see Sang Mi or Scooby gang learning curve?
They’re going to fail to save her anyway. It’s their first attempt and it won’t be easy to just run away. The will try later and save both her and her mother.
I think it’s because they don’t know about Sang Mi’s mother, and Sang Mi needs to save herself first from marrying Spiritual Father, so I assume when Sang Hwan offered to rescue her, she might thought about saving herself first, then only she can save her mother with the help from outside. Who knows, maybe from higher authority or something to reveal the ugly truth about that place.
I don’t blame SH for not knowing about Sang Mi’s mother. My point is if Sang Mi just needs to escape, I don’t think she needed the boys to help her in this way. She can always find opportunity or create an escape plan which doesn’t involve this type of head on confrontation. The reason why she can’t leave alone is because her mother is held hostage.
Even if the boys manage to take her away this time, she will have to come back because the cult will threaten her with harming her mother. This will happen before they can even think of how to help her mother.
Hence, I hope Scooby Doo gang and Sang Mi come up with more ingenious ideas.
Even with her mother held hostage, we could see from time to time, Sang Mi did put herself first. She did try to escape before, seek help from the stupid bald police and back to the cult. Even when Sang Hwan approached her, they all kept Sang Mi away from telling outsider about their “true” activity. Plus, her dad kept her locked in a room. So it’s really hard for her to escape alone. We also could see how she tried to kill herself when she didn’t want to become Spiritual Mother and only cooled down when they threatened her with her mom. Hence, I assume that Sang Mi is really desperate to escape from that place, but didn’t have a chance and at the same time worried about her mom.
With the boys agreed to help her, I guess she sees hope. At least she’s assured that someone out there is trying to rescue her, so she won’t be alone this time. I see it as, if she manages to escape, with the people who believe in her, they could go to higher authority to do something about it. Even if she doesn’t have the evidence about the bad things that they did, she’s still entitled to freedom of religion; they basically forced on her to believe what they believe, so it’s still wrong. Even if they threatened her with harming her mother, it’ll be a bit harder for those people as well when outside people started to know about their activity and if it’s involved police case too with Disciple Jo committing sexual assault and probably rape.
And about the confrontation, their plan was to bring Sang Mi out when she’s at home, but then Sang Mi didn’t get a chance to stay at home. When Dong Chul told them that they’re moving out, I understand the boys’ desperation to save Sang Mi by confrontation because once Sang Mi’s inside Guseonwon, it’ll be so much harder for them to save her. True it’s a stupid rescue mission, but I understand their desperation at that moment. They’re just doing whatever it takes to save Sang Mi at that time as they don’t want to let her to stay at Guseonwon.
I think you have summed it up well. It’s just that I felt frustrated watching it, knowing that it would be doomed to fail. Maybe I’d like it better if Sang Mi is someone who plans a bit more and be more cunning. Don’t show her cards, don’t try to talk sense into the members like Jeong Gu’s grandmother. These won’t help her and will only make her escape harder.
I agree. I’ve been waiting for her to be cunning and play those people in Guseonwon, but I understand if she can’t be that kind of person because she didn’t really expose to outside world. She doesn’t even have high school diploma. But I still hope though for her to play mind games to people there as well. Let’s just wait and see.
I’ve watched it earlier. I gotta watch SDM right after watching this drama to ease myself. I was so mad watching this scene. How can Dad still believe this whole cult thing to do point of almost losing his own daughter?! Sang Mi’s about to do suicide! Father Baek is nothing but pedophile. I know Sang Mi is now 23, but he’s aimed her since she was in high school, so yup, still a pedophile to me.
