The Water God surveys his kingdom in all his divine splendor

Who’s the prettiest of them all? Nam Joo-hyuk (Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju), that’s who! In the latest teaser for Bride of the Water God 2017, we get a glimpse of Nam Joo-hyuk in all his regal trappings as the water god who descends to Earth and meets a human. That human is played by Shin Se-kyung (Girl Who Sees Smells), and her family have been his predestined servants for generations.

In the 15-second teaser, exotic music plays as Nam Joo-hyuk’s ash-blue locks are swept away by the wind. He opens his darkly lined eyes, places a stone onto a small pyramid-shaped artifact, and surveys his pristine white kingdom. In his one-line voiceover, he says, “I am the ruler of the water kingdom, Ha-baek.”

This spinoff drama is based on an original manhwa set in olden times, in which a girl was sacrificed to the water god in order to save her village from a drought. However, this drama will take place in the present, and the heroine doesn’t seem like she’ll be such a willing sacrifice, because she’s supposed to be a doctor who is a strict realist. But seeing this teaser, I can imagine she’ll be in for a shock if Ha-baek ever takes her to his beautiful kingdom.

I wonder if the other gods, played by Krystal (She’s So Lovable) and Gong Myung (Individualist Ji-young), will also be as pretty in their full divine regalia… But I know Im Joo-hwan (Oh My Ghostess) will definitely be able to rock a suit, playing a resort CEO. I’m still unsure of how the story will play out with the current (mostly green) cast and modern setup, but all the gorgeous promo is slowly winning me over.

Monday-Tuesday fantasy romance drama Bride of the Water God 2017 will premiere on tvN on July 3.

Well, if they wanted to lure in the audience with the visual prettiness, it's working.

I could've embraced the drama, but now that I've seen this little tidbit of him looking awesome in a period costume....I just can't accept that it'll be set in a modern era. NOOOOOOO Whhhhhhhy.

Grr why do they bother buying the rights or using the name 'Bride of Water God' when the could just come up with their own story since it's vastly different and give another studio the chance to actually do the historical adaptation. They are hogging the title!!!!

Oh how I wish this drama was actually set like the teaser for the whole duration! Love the kingdom, costume, music and of course, the guy-liner. Nam Joo-Hyuk looks like an anime character come to life, so pretty <3 music sounds like something from Magi or The Last Airbender haha

The irony of shooting the Water God's Kingdom scene in a desert.... lol

Also everyone knows not to expect monsoon in India in May, our rainy season is from June/July.

Lol.. exactly! I was wondering why they went to Rajasthan of all places to shoot for a Water God! Maybe he will magically bring water to the desert! :P

Low key singing "kaale megha kaale megha paani to barsao" from Lagaan! :P

I hope Im Joo Hwan's character will be complex and fleshed out enough, and not the stereotypical one. It'd be a waste of him and I badly want to be able to like his character.

I don't really think of Nam Joohyuk as a pretty boy, more as a cute one. But he's seriously pretty in this.

theyll be ruining this with the next teasers hahaha! the rest of the characters are all set in modern time, they were not included in india so maybe theyll be using a studio if they will make them wear the traditional clothes ?

honestly, tvn is trying so hard to make this as the next goblin.. from what i see and from the ratings tvn are experiencing these months, its toooooo far from reality hahahahahah! Plus the cast is a major turn off, specifically the lead actress :(

International fans are not that helpful with the ratings, the korean market is more important but based from the comments and reactions of knets, this is not that hyped and big :( soooo sad

This teaser made me realize that Kdramas haven't explored the fantasy genre in a while! I'm definitely ready for this change :D

Also, whoever has been directing/editing these teasers deserve some mad props. Very tasteful and atmospheric and there's something different about the way they are shot and cut together that really stands out. They definitely have my attention now!

No offence intended, but it really took me the entire teaser to 1. realise that it's NJH not SSK and 2. not freak out at his new look

Yoo seung ho would've been better for this role. Ha Baek looks like a woman in the teaser.

This is the kind of show that K-Dramas excel at. I've been bereft since the end of 'Goblin'. I'm a psychiatric nurse. I thrive on fantasy.

The teaser is too short but I am optimistic, it looks like they are spending some money in scenery and characterizations, and Nam Joo Hyuk is simply beautiful as a god should be, I like the blue hair! ?
Anyway, I'm surprised that people would confuse him with SSK, they look alike but not that much, hahaha!!

i disagree :)) they only had shooting in india for 5 days and was even cut short due to the hot weather... all the other bts (if you follow the drama) are alway taken at the busy streets of korea haaha with moving cars as their background lol

I watched it three immediate times in a row. It looked so cool. Now I'm trying to convince myself he's Ha Beak, though.

So much pretty and it's interesting to see them showing the actual water god in all his glory instead of in the modern world.

Until this drama proven otherwise, I'll stick to recaps.

Habaek's blue hair is no go for me because I've associated the character with black hair like the manhwa
