Beans of Wisdom: The perks of being a villain

This week in Beans of Wisdom…

silentbeluga speaks up about a common struggle in “Man to Man teases James Bond cat and mouse games” comment #28:

Oh Park Hae-Jin… I JUST got back to a normal sleeping schedule after working the graveyard shift for over a year and you’re going to mess that all up aren’t you?

I feel like I’m gonna go back to my rookie kdrama addict days, constantly looping the two major questions that rule over my existence: do I love sleep more or do I love watching that beautiful man more? It’s like the worst “Would you rather” game of all times, ha!

Amilia writes in “Chief Kim: Episode 10” comment #12:

What struck me the most about this show is how important the way we treat other people is. The first time Yul pulled Chief Kim into his office, I was shocked that he was treating him as if Kim was a criminal and Yul was still a prosecutor. This is how you treat the person you want to cook your books??? And he treats him that way throughout all their interactions. And then is surprised when Chief Kim doesn’t want to work with him. I kept wondering if the plot would have been completely different if Yul had just said, “Look, we hired you to cook our books. Don’t skim too much. Have at it.”

Then we have the accidental heroism. Which started as just a slip on the ice, but then everyone started treating Chief Kim like a hero. So he started acting like a hero. Surprise! It is more fun to be treated like a hero than a criminal. Shocking, I know.

Sera The Ms Temper has similar sentiments in comment #1.2.1 of “Chief Kim: Episode 11”:

Yul basically digging his own grave because of his greediness. Chief Kim even when he has committed the bad things in the past, he was good with ppl and even now. He knows how to respect people. Basically respect is something we need to earn. Yul is the one who made ppl avoid and hate him, not the other way around. He thinks that by making ppl afraid of him and make everyone his enemies, he is above them. Hence he is the one made himself miserable and lonely.

Yul, like what CK said is thug in a suits. I hope he will save himself from being totally destroyed by his own hand, before it is too late. He should use his knowledge and intelligence for good things.

panshel notes in “Tomorrow With You: Episode 7” comment #1:

One thing I appreciate is how Ma Rin never carelessly throws around the word “divorce.” I wished the roles were reversed and So Joon had come running into her room when she screamed awake from her nightmare. Ki Doong’s beard misunderstanding had me rolling with laughter. Thanks a bunch for the recap, gummimochi!

Divyrus:

All you said. Especially the ‘divorce’ part. Despite the fact that they dont know much about each other and have rushed into marriage, I love the fact that they dont talk about separation or divorce. How they do not jump to end things immediately.

Too many long term relationships even do that. Jump to argue about ending things at the slightest mishap.

panshel:

Yes, one of my pet peeves is when every petty argument ends in “Let’s get a divorce.” Like, don’t say things you can’t take back so easily.

adeenalin continues in #13:

This drama shows us that marriage is not all about rainbow and sunshine but it also shows us how .. as a husband and wife to overcome that.

This what I love about this drama despite the low ratings.

While we wish someone would show Chandler’s words to our hero in #14.1:

Honestly, after that phone call, I really needed someone to tell So-Joon how wrong he was about his parents in their last moments. All this time he thought he contributed to their despair towards the end, but that immaturity from his youth saved them so much grief because they at least knew their son was safe in their last moments. I hope he’ll be able to realize that. In fact, considering they were forcing him to come along, they may have even felt some irrational guilt themselves in their last moments had things unfolded differently. Not only that, they would be so proud of him now. Especially since he found a wife that finally got him to help Happiness with his own two hands.

Sim shares a great tip for shows that have us guessing. In “Tomorrow With You: Episode 8,” comment #2.1.1, she writes:

I cast a VERY wide web of theories early on so basically i had no chance in being wrong. You can’t be wrong if you propose all of them

In #4.1.1.1, Divyrus talks about the difficulty of letting So-joon go (for Se-young, that is.)

I saw that scene in different way.

To her, time didn’t stop. Things did not change much in her life. She grew up with him and even in their adult lives, they continue being friends. So she sees him as 30 years worth of a person.

Whereas for So Joon, his life became upside down after accident. He literally can see future. His past became one of guilt on disappointing his parents. He became a completely new person. And unfortunately, Se Young never noticed that until he married. Her fault was being stuck in the bubble of her love for him with the past she had. Life and time changes differently for everyone and suddenly you realize your best friend is far away from you than you ever could have guessed.

Both the soju scene with Ki Doong and her meal with Seyoung – I see it as her finally seeing who So Joon is today. I see it her as getting over him. I see it as her understanding, her old friend has been gone for many many years.

Miranda writes about our favorite quirky CEO in #2.1.1 of “Strong Woman Do Bong-soon: Episode 1”:

I kind of wonder if Min Hyuk doesn’t have any friends and part of his eagerness to attach himself to Bong Soon is that her physical power balances his financial and social position in his brain – like maybe he truly thinks of personalities like inventory in a video game and she just happens to be strong in charisma and power, but he’s got wealth and intelligence, so together they make a perfect team.

azleenaa in #76:

I love the moment when Minhyuk said Bong Soon is sexy outside the police station. I actually think the same way. A woman being cool & confidence is OK. Only man think that when a woman is cool, she will step his ego. So I find Minhyuk is really different from other men. He finds Bong Soon cool. As far as I watched Kdramas, men find this type of woman will crushed his ego & pride. Woman empowerment comes a long way & I delighted that this drama came at that time.

Not so foreign attempts to follow our weird CEO’s thought process in #60:

I kinda relate to Ahn Minhyuk

As someone who wants to be a villain in the past, these are my childish thinking :

1. Villains are generally more free than the good guy. Good guys are boring. Villain ain’t gonna submit that request for approval for jewelry burglary to her damn boss. Good guy needs to do administrative job and be good to other people. Too much work.. to be a good guy.
2. Villains are often glamorized in cinema. Like kaito kid, ocean eleven, the thieves. They seem to be smarter than the good guys, more resourceful and always 1 step ahead of authorities. They made the puzzle, police or good guy only solve em.
3. Villains are mysterious and fascinating. They have layers and layers of stories and there are usually good reason why they become bad.
4. This is trivial but villains have strong songs in cartoons. Scar’s Be prepared, Ursula’s Poor Unfortunate soul for example, they are strong song and they know what they want.
5. Villains are misunderstood often but free to do whatever they want and people won’t bring em down, since people hate them from the first time. So no expectation.

I personally think, writers tend to create way better villain characterization than hero characterization.
Filler dumb villains a la home alone are fun to watch but not exactly exciting to be against. Maybe it’s cause to measure a hero or a good guy is to pit him against the cruelest guy, in so the hero can be defined as “hero”. So hero can be cheered and love, the villain can be forgotten. What a romantic life to be villain.

But after i grow up though, the burden of becoming a villain is much larger. Gotta do that drugs, kill people, planning to change the world and make an army just to be a regular villain. Prison is no good and generally they hang out in dungeon. Nope, let’s just be a good person.

Mindy attempts to be positive in “Battling for survival at the workplace in Radiant Office” comment #10:

It’s billed as a comedy. Not a dramedy or a melodrama. I highly doubt she will actually die.

But meowingme voices our fears:

Lately some shows billed as rom-com has dead bodies in them, am kinda loosing faith in this billing now…

redfox writes in #12:

“she wants to take this last chance to test fate and prove that she’s a useful human being”.

been there. “Why am I even doing this? Will anybody ever say “Thank you!”? Am I just wasting my time, what if it is meaningless? Does anyone even know I exist?” I have been at that point, creatively though, but it is the same, when art is the meaning of your life, but seems like nobody needs it. No matter how cheerful this drama looks, I don´t think looking for justification to your existence is a very funny business.

that said, positive attitude is still necessary. Not to fret over meager human achievements. That´s just sand. Who knows if world would end tomorrow. Human problems are so minor. Even when facing death, to not think “I didn´t achieve much!” or “I wasted too much time!!”, but to think you did your best in any circumstance. I like the saying “No snowflakew ever falls into the wrong place!” So none of our deeds might not be meaningless, even if it feels like that at the moment. Every loose end will be tied at some point.

Niyati tries to make sense of “Voice: Episode 11.” In comment #6, she writes:

Forget getting the body into his apartment, how did he kill her, remove an eye, set up the crime scene, and get her body out of the Club without being seen by anyone or getting any blood on himself. Seriously this show sometimes borrows from Harry freaking Potter!

Yanca94:

shhhh… you can’t ask that lest you become self aware like kang chul, you wouldn’t want your whole world to freeze now would you? Tht would be bad, just accept it nd move on, besides you can’t handle the truth obviously hence the omitting of major plot points its for your own good nd definitely not lazy writting

Niyati:

But but but…
Wait do you think that’s what happened to Tae Gu? Did he become self aware, freeze his universe, and use the window to get the body out? Eeekkss! Does that mean maybe he’s even read these comments? Yeow! I’m sorry your chiseled hotness! I swear, I won’t tell anyone about you. You can even date me so you can keep an eye on me. #noulterriormotives

P.S. don’t judge me for hitting on a serial killer okay, he’s not evil in our universe #convenientexploitationofplotholes

Yanca94:

No judgment here, his chiseled hotness is hot and he won’t mind. maybe he’ ll tell you how to remove blood stains so efficiently, think of all the cash you’ ll make as a dry cleaner. I pray for your sake tht he leaves your eyeballs were they belong though . It will be tough dating a guy with an affinity fr body parts not attached to said body. Goodluck

PakalanaPikake:

@6.1.1.1.1 Niyati,

I know right! Things we do for the greater good *cough* eye candy*cough*

*shudders at use of “eye candy” in relation to Mr. Cheekbones of Doom*

Was this a missed opportunity for a PPL for OxiClean? My friend the EMT told me it was terrific for removing bloodstains from her uniforms.

PS: It’s probably not a good idea to “make eyes” at this guy. Ever.

Visit the original thread for more ideas on keeping this relationship (and yourself) intact.

Lord Cobol also has questions in “Voice: Episode 12” comment #4:

he used to own a large clothing factory but it went bankrupt, and in order to keep from burdening his wife and daughter with his debts, he left them to live on the streets.

Uh, did he borrow from polite loan-sharks or something? In every other kdrama, collectors would go after the wife and kids and 2nd cousin once removed as soon as the borrower took off.

While prettysup has a good guess about the ending in comment #5:

Only 4 eps left to go, my guess is they will end the show with Tae-gu laughing sinisterly, and the viewers asking for part 2 as per typical OCN style haha…

And didi shares her opinion on balancing how we ship onscreen couples in “Joy enchants Lee Hyun-woo with her voice in the Liar and His Lover” comment #7.2.1:

“I ship them casually”
Hear hear.

Shipping is nice and fun, until people take it much too seriously and can’t tell wishful thinking apart from reality. I ship them in that I would be happy for them because I think it’s a suitable match, but I would be fine if nothing happened. I’m seeing some people become too emotional just because of their ship, and that’s a no-no to me. It’s disturbing. Imposing the will of shippers on the two is selfish, neither owes shippers for anything. And it goes for the opposite point. I don’t like it when people use the “too many cameras around” or visible editing of clips as a reason for it to be fake. People can develop bonds in front of cameras too, especially when those people are used to cameras, what’s with reality shows for idols being filmed constantly. If there’s chemistry, there’s chemistry. Friendships have been formed in variety shows, and reality shows before. And it’s possible to have feelings but not pursue it further. I just think of the show as celebrities playing make-believe and indulging in flirting. Ooops. Didn’t intend to rant on WGM here.

Kiara writes about the awesomeness of Honey Lee in “Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People: Episode 9” comment #3.2.1.3:

I love her in this. I never thought that rap and gayageum would go together but I ended up liking it a lot. She is also very beautiful in it.

DarcyLove asks in “Missing 9: Episode 13” comment #2:

Well… This is one hell of a ride…..

Who else is still hoping for Yeol to come back??..

oosiee:

As I always say…err comment..the show’s name should’ve been ‘Missing Yeol’!

In comment #7, Lord Cobol asks about the food poisoning in “Introverted Boss: Episode 11”:

Did the sushi industry just get a warning about what happens if you don’t put up enough ppl money? Especially if you compete with Subway?

Flightey Gazelles:

Poor Sushi, pay up next time okay or else its gonna be worse and sushi will be the food used in the initiation ritual of that upcoming Cult drama on OCN. Warning strike!!

hani shares a story and a beautiful reminder to all of us in comment #14:

Hwan ki remind me to one of my friend. People told me dat shes bad and his father takin drugs and all the nasty stuff. But when I get to know her, wat a positive girl, she love to smile and optimist. And I saw (cus she never told me) how hard she struggle to help her poor family and take care of her sick sibling and at the same time maintain her academic performance.shes quiet, she always listen to me.how the hell everyone told me dats shes bad?

We always have a hwanki around us.please dont take them for granted

Thanks for the lessons and the laughs. Please stay awesome, beanies!

I never thought the comment about WGM and shipping would end up in Beans of wisdom. If I knew it would be exposed out of the safe space, I would probably not have said anything out of cowardice.

Neither side of the aisle were untouched in my comment. Not smart of me. Oh well... what's out there is out there. Now I'm off running away from WGM haters and WGM hardcore shippers alike. Bayiiiiiii~~~~~~~~`

lol so ur a Bbyu shipper. I missed out on reading your comment. I left the DB post too early. I would have stayed had I known fans were going to be there right after I left kekekekeke.

I feel you. Bbyu couple casual shippers like us should give ourselves a group hug. We're not vocal, but we're there. Don't be scared. kekekekeke It's tough. On one side we have people who get jealous of anyone paired with their favs, and on the other we have people who get jealous of anyone except just that one person to be paired with their fav two. Sigh. They're basically the same if they look at each other carefully kekekekeke.

I totally ++++ resonate w/ ur comment. I think there's nothing wrong with shipping --- aka seeing chemistry and compatibility, aka romantic potential -- and want to see potential develop. We do it in our lives too when we see real people being suitable. I like playing match-maker too. kekekeke. My view. No apologies.

Like u said, shipping becomes problematic when people are "disappointed" at their ship not turning out the way they want to. Or worse, when they turn everything under the sun into a "proof," as if any real person dating would realistically spend 200% of their time creating those secret messages and signs. kekekeke. Laughable.

Shipping is basically people's own free business to ship. But not for u to pressure the person with it. Meddling is uncomfortable for everyone. And if u want to be delusional, and if that makes u happy, that's ur business, but don't become disappointed and blame anyone but urself for those delusions being just delusions.

There. U have a fellow "casual shipper" giving u support. kekekekeke. Have strength.

I 100% relate to your pain of being stuck in between. In the beginning of my shipping career, I had to follow those shippers accounts (one of the blog shared on here) because I had no other source of information. Once I've looked around and gotten my feet secured out of newbsdom, I unfollowed that major sungjoy shipper blog. It was taking things way too emotionally for me. Now, I just follow Btob and RV individual fansites, and forming our own small community of less hardcore Bbyu shippers for shipping newsfeed. I feel a lot less unhealthy for and relaxed after finding independence from that account. It was way too diva for me, info source or not. I think some shippers need to chill for sure so I get the criticism. However, some antishippers are just as bad, if not worse in their obsession of anti-shipping so it's not a one-sided problem.

Methink I know who ur talking bout. I unfollowed her too, not because she's a hardcore shipper (she's fairly mild) but because she acts uber patronizing.
I agree, the problem definitely isn't onesided. Fanwars rarely is the fault of just one side. It's like the Capulet and Montague. In the end pple start fighting just to win the argument instead of focusing on sanity. It's a bit sad as someone who is part of both fandoms. I believe a lot of us share overlapping fandoms with shippers and group fans (naturally).

Yeah, it's obvious who we're talking about. You're right, she cosplays well as a "sane shipper" and to be fair, maintaining a fansite and IG account requires the kind of dedication only passionate shippers can sustain. Without them, no fansite for casual fans. It must be hard on her to deal with unreasonable demands from her followers. But she tries to act more mature than she actually is, and there lies the problem. She lashes her stress out on others, but can't take it when treated similarly back. I just don't need that extra drama in my life. Like people said, shipping is entertainment. Not drama.

samiesss. i appreciate what the admin is doing for the fandom, but i don't follow her personally since we dont match in personality or shipping etiquette.

I'm speaking as someone truly "in-between," meaning I have never shipped anyone seriously, nor have I ever been a serious fan of any one artist - I just "like" them - I can say there are two things I see around the internet which annoy me equally. One, shippers making a fuss when another is paired to one half of their ship. Two, fans making a fuss when anyone one gets paired to their artist. Both act as if that person is a possession. In the first case, that the person belong to x,y or z. In the second, that the person belong to them specifically (or to the vague sense of "fans" in general). Equally bad in my views. Frequency speaking, I see a lot more comments along the lines of "Oppa, why did you hug that person. Explanation. Now." than comments like "x/y/z will be disappointed."

Even said jokingly, it is unacceptable to see, even remotely, an underlying belief (however vague) that the artist somehow belong to them in some portion. It's the kind of jealousy which makes people breakup in a real relationship. Between fans and artists, it's just extreme.

'Weekend farewell.' you're not going to get any fans here for saying this. I've seen plenty of comments on dramabeans, even from staff, claiming actors, taking dibs on them, arguing about who has more legitimacy over the actors, taking numberrs, et cetera. I know it's all done as a joke. An excuse to banter playfully. Despite knowing that, I didn't like seeing it. The concept of a person "belonging" to someone, removing their personal will from the equation, shouldn't be a concept at all, even as a joke. There, after keeping quiet for years, I've said it. I always feared about ruining the fun for people, and appearing to PC. With your comment, I realized taking dibs on people as if you're taking dibs on a class seat shouldn't be considered funny at all.

slightly offtopic but what makes me more uncomfortable than shipping is seeing female fans comment on the thing down there for men, and think its ok to make remarks about its size just because it's not referred to explicitly. I would things along the line of "big feet/hands means...." or "noticing that thing in the scene...." I consider that sexual harassment. as a female, Id feel extremely uncomfortable to read discussions about the size of chest thrown out casually like its ok.

0

"Oppa, why did you hug that person. Explanation. Now."
This is just the kind of thing I find really scary. That oppa probably never even talked to them so why would they demand an explanation from him?
I get it, they are his fans and they make him the star he is. I understand that since they are dedicated, they might expect a certain level of dedication as well.
But this is just a bit too much. They should let him live and breathe a bit.

Don't worry. Beans of wisdom posts don't have as many people check out than regular posts. You should be safe & good to go. :D

I'll go into my own rant so warning.

Agree with you and Jay. Shipping is natural. In dramas we ship characters and people get passionate about it. In real life, people can get dangerously emo too, makes sense even tho meh. this is real people we're talking about, not characters, know the limit.

For me:
"They look good together" = ok shipping
"OMG They must be together" = pass the shipping line into annoying territory.

that said, Sungjoy look good together. Pwahahaha. Ok. Just kidding. Problem with Sungjoy is Sungjae & Joy look good with everyone ever. So both of them have different ships and all the different shippers are fighting different ships. Then their own fans get annoyed too. It's hilarious. I'm just sitting there sipping my tea like whatever. I'll just love Joy and eat popcorn. (Sungjae is a nice boy and so freaking talented in about everything it's annoying and I don't mind if he's with her at all. I think he makes her happy. But I don't hardcore stan him.)

I also agree with you bout the camera stuff. By that logic, all the friendship fans keep raving on about and bond between members or whatever is fake because anything you see celebs in have cameras involved. From fancams to dramas to bts to variety shows. think people, think. that's the only way you get to know about celebrities. through cameras. duh. not rocket science. Sure they can fake it too; but I dunno about others, but if you get me a hunk, I'll flirt with him too if I had an excuse to do it, cameras or no cameras around. Cheh.

It's hilarious how some fans want shippers to act as if the show never happened after it ends. Kinda super unreasonable you know? Like you say you're a fan, but when that person spends months doing a project, getting paid and screentime for it, you decide to erase a huge part of their months of work into nothing. Like that would help them to know that all the hours they've spent is considered useless and never existing. That all the fans they've gained because of that work have to forget the thing that drew them to the fandom. How smart of fans. Cheh.

As much as I've ranted, I think wgm "controversy" will continue on with each new couple. In a way, my own comment here is useless too. Heh.

omomomomomo!!! guys, you wanjeon speak my heart.

@didi Haha. Cute coward. I'm glad you spoke out. Someone had to.

@Jay about delusions... I'll add: Don't force others to share your delusions. NO ONE as viewers and fans know the truth. Not the shippers, and not the anti-couples. None of the "clues" regarding shipping OR opinions on their fake feelings should be considered irrefutable proof spoken as truth. With real people we know, we can't be sure of their feelings so what do we know for sure about ships. Books on relationship sell like hot pockets because no one is sure about another person feelings. Relationship are tricky, let alone relationship through cams. Shippers shouldn't be so sure about their ship. And fans being anti of the couple should realize they don't know any better than anyone else regarding what feelings were involved. They might actually upset the people they claim to "protect" by being anti of real feelings and inadvertently hurt them. Imagine people telling you you can't be attracted and have a relationship with someone you like. It sucks.

Basically. We don't know. And that's where the fun begins. Fun in an unknown. And where the fun should stay. In the "we don't know category."

@Xiao peanut Yeah, that's it in a nutshell. I don't care if there are scripts or cameras and whatnot, nor does chemistry care. I dated a guy in summer theater class. We acted out as bf/gf in the skit and he asked me out. Didn't last long.
Then I wanjeon had a major MAJOR crush on this guy in my bio lab, and I barely spoke to him, had a lecturer going around, and we were surrounded by our classmates all the time. All we did was follow lab instructions and occasionally joke around when we weren't frantic about finishing the lab on time. My crushing didn't care. It still crushed hardcore. Setting, circumstances, barely any conversation be screwed. I found out later through gossip he liked me too, but by then, I had moved on and was dating another from my psych class. Haha. Don't worry, I love my current bf and have no regrets. And miraculously managed to ace my classes despite the yummy distractions. I know I sound like checking men out and flirt up are all I do in class, but I study too. Haha. No one is going to prevent me from dating tho. Dating is fun. Yasss.

Pwuahaha. I like dating too - not judging you. I've dated a lot in my early 20s. Now that I'm older, I don't feel the need anymore. Enjoying being single. I get asked out still on occasions but you'll find out a break is needed. It's like going to clubs the first year as an adult and finding out we don't miss it when we stop going. It was fun while it lasted.

It could be just my own thinking but personally, I dun mind a liitle bit of tongue in cheek delusion. I think that reasonable if people joke around and make it clear that they're aware of how exaggerated and how much a stretch those delusions are. Delusions are a problem imo when people start to believe in their own delusions, like liars believing in their own lie.

wahhhhhhhhhhh.

watsup with wgm always bringing pple out 2 write essays.

dont hadve time to write one. briefly on the topic:

Shipping:
problematic part is not exclusive to wgm. happens w dramas characters and/or actors in dramas, and/or random interactions irl between celebs. that sucks. extreme behaviors like harassing other actresses and actors when paired w/ the ship man / woman is not cool. belittling them 2. Not. Cool. No right to be possessive even if it's "fans."

How realistic:
possible to have feelings during filming. less possible and freedom to act out on those feelings outside filming = have to be careful cuz of career and fanatic obsessive + possessive fans. most of the time, it doesn't work out and/or the attraction is not strong and significant enough. not working out doesn't automatically mean it was all fake. probably exaggerated? those who exaggerated probably felt a pressure to do so. but some were probably genuinely were attached to their partners . as some1 said above. we do not know. that does he/she, does he not, is part of the fun "some" relationship. push/pull charm.

Sungjoy:

I see this on feed and I ship. Simple.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BRQsG8Kgu_H/

That kind of chemi needs to be unleashed out in a drama. Don't waste it drama gods. As for a rl relationship, imo they're probably not dating cuz they're idols. not a smart move for career. + too young to become serious. maybe later. maybe never. maybe already. maybe breakup. it's their business, not ours.

take your time. I watched them late too, after they finished airing. just don't wait until after their dating news with someone else is released. (or maybe do, it'll save you the trouble, or pleasure, depending on how you view it lol)

that awesome picture happened in the later episodes. where things got a bit bolder. it was a loooooong process. they took their time building up, which is what i like about them. bbyu couple (sungjoy) is an interesting couple. when one make advances, the other person becomes shy. when the other makes a bold move, then it's their turn to back down. the entire show, it was in short just sungjoy making moves and freaking themselves out a second right after because it was too much for them. when sungjae made the move, he dealt with his shyness by joking, and joy just froze. when joy came onto him, she just mocked him right after and he just blushed. the more it went on, the bolder the moves were, and the shyer they were, and the more they joked.

Wish you a fun time (and your face will hurt from all the facepalming and cheeks hurting from smiling and laughing) now that you've been warned, happy viewing.

their episodes start from episode 276 of wgm season 4, full episodes. you can watch just their cuts on certain sites but those cuts are not perfectly done so they're missing some portion
Specifically, behind the scenes rehearsal of their MBC Entertainment awards performance aired during Kim So yeon - kwak si yang portion, and another clip of them walking and discussing what they feel about dating for 3 seasons while eating pork feet (same episode as that screenshot)

Extra clips, unaired clips, pre-episodes clips, director's cut can be found on MBCentertain youtube channel. a compilation list can be found on this blog too. sungjoyfamily.blogspot.com

I'm telling you this because I also had trouble finding them because I watched their segment after everyone else had. :)

Waouhhhh. I'm loving these... specially the second one: talk about a good-looking profile. Stealing noonas' hearts. tsk, tsk.

Oh my. I was a good girl. I stayed quiet about my love for Sungjoy all this while, but you HAD to trigger me with that screencap. You HAD to. I was so good at resisting after seeing Sungjoy mentioned again and again on this site. I was like, don't give in, don't give in. Reign in your obsession. Be considerate. REIGN IT IN. Now, I'm coming out. Forget resisting.

I give up.

If we're talking about my favourite Sungjoy moment, picture wise... it HAS to be MBC entertainment awards. They just looked PERFECT.

See if I'm exaggerating....

Flightey Gazelles mentioned his profile... How about THIS for a profile??

And I just love love LOVE how they looked at each other. They're both bright people, it might be my delusion, but I think they laugh differently when they're together. Their smiles are blinding to begin with. Although the eyes just lit up in a special way, don't know how to describe it. I'll just show it.

Oh my how he looks at her... So heart-fluttering.

Right. No judgement here. Fangirling and sharing links is welcome! I can't talk for admins, but I love it when people share what ticks them on this site. It's like being in one's fav restaurant, and getting brought diverse food for one to taste.

I clicked the links too. I don't know who Sungjae is (I haven't watched Goblin, planning to marathon it after exams, wish me luck) but wow... he's handsome. She's pretty. I ended up saving those pictures without knowing it. I was right clicking all the pictures while scrolling through halfway of that tumblr page b4 realizing what i was doing. mwahahaha.

I almost thought the two comments here were from the same person and went ????? when I read Alli (2)'s comments. ROFL. I thought "that's a bizarre thing to reply like that to yourself."

Anyhoooow. thanks to the girls having the almost same name, I had to doublecheck the post because of the confusion, and decided to click on the links. I didn't save them like Alli (2) did: you know, that twitter side thing where we can click on to scroll through all their account's photos?
well, I started just to check it out a bit, and couldn't stop because he looked so good in pictures. I ended up going through ohmyook's entire history. Uh huh. Heard it right. ALLLL of those photos. I can't believe it I just did that. Index finger hurt I had to change fingers midway. I'm pausing and taking a break writing this comment to share how i spent the past 20/30 minutes or so, so all of people here can laugh at me. He's not even my style. I go for men in their 30s. After this comment, I will be doing the same thing for the girl's fansite twitter account, wnc or something. It's almost like a challenge now that I've started or something to go through all the links. Stupid stupid random competitiveness acting up. :P :P :P tralalalala.

0

@jordan LOL You're funny. It's probably too late to say this since you've probably finished your "challenge" by now but just so you know... if you're on desktop version of twitter, instead of scrolling, you can just hold onto the right arrow key and the images will automatically go through at about 2/3 images per second. Looks like that account ohmy6_net with 2.4K+ images would be done in 15-20 minutes of viewing. You just need to press once and hold onto it. :D

Peeps calling people fakes for expressing their attraction to the person producers have chosen carefully to fit their taste and personality, and with whom they're thrown together in situations meant to make their heart flutter are basically saying their stans are not attractite. LMAO. They're basically saying, "yes I love my oppa (and whatever the female term for it is) because I've seen a few hours of him on my computer screen BUUUUT it's totally impossible for someone who spent hours in person with him, playing house with him and hearing him say nice things to them, to feel real attraction for him." Makes total sense, not. I would like to see them do exactly that, be in "fake situation." Be in front of cameras, maybe even read a script if they insist, and claim to me they don't feel any sort of attraction to an attractive person, when that attractive person get close to you, or say something nice to you. Oh wait. We already have an example. Just look at any fansign, or concert or fanmeeting. You have tons of cameras, tons of people around you, barely any interaction with the actor, idol, whatever, and fans still go "kya kya, he's soooooo hot, I want to marry him." But nobody else is allowed to. Possessiveness to the extreme. ///////////////// And shippers, if they're faking it, they're faking it no big deal. It's an entertainment show. If you watch it, be entertained. If you aren't entertained, don't watch. I repeat. It's an ENTERTAINMENT show. No need to take things seriously. People say they're faking it? GREEAT. Give them an Oscar. Get them in a drama. As shippers, if they made it believable for you, you've been entertained. Let it stop there. Please. If shipping makes you unhappy and fretful, you've gone too far. It's supposed to make you entertained, not to make you into a mess. For those who don't like the show, fine, it's a bad show, don't watch it. Millions of others find it entertaining. Let them be. You don't like it either when people trash on shows and groups you like either right? Why make a drama out of a molehill. I repeat. It's A SHOW.

My take on the whole shipping business: BOTH sides need to lighten up and be respectful of all parties involved. Non-shippers fan and shippers should make it and behave in a way so that all parties involved would feel free to date their partners in dramas or shows, as well as feel free to date someone else, without the need to feel guilty towards anyone. Because regardless of whoever they end up with, it's not a wrong choice, and not one for you to make for them. You can ship, or not ship. I don't care, as long as you don't entitle yourself with the thought that the alternative scenario, if it happens, is wrong.

So many co-stars have dated. Lee Boyoung - Ji Sung. Song Hye Gyo - Hyun Bin/Lee byung Hun. Some even married. Many break-up. Some dated people they've never worked with. I bet many have dated without anyone in the public knowing the better. Let them live, the way they want to live. The least you can do is let them love freely. It's not too much to ask. That's my final say on the matter.

Re serena: I don't watch We Got Married. However, that picture you shared makes me see why shippers say those two have chemistry and need to be in a drama together. And I can see why non-shippers would say they're acting. It really looks like a screenshot straight out of a drama. *wink*

Exactly. All couple from WGM especially look like they have a feeling with each other and the chemistry is so great. Their photoshoot also, kind of intimate as well. I didnt watch all couples, the last couple I watched only Solim (Kim So Eun-Song Jae Rim) . But one think I sure, the PD knows how exactly to make those couple look like they are so much in love on camera. He/she is an expert to make sure those couples are believeable enough as a newly married couple.

I do believe the couples do form some feeling especially spending several months together. But maybe after show ends, they chose to stay as a friend only, and as a result some not even contacting each other due to busy schedules. I am good at crushing someone's ship lol but that is not my intention. I used to be Solim shipper and was sure there is something between them ( all couples shippers say the same thing lol) but somehow not care that much now. Everyone is freely to be a shipper or non-shipper, just do it a healthy and casual way..I wont take this ship thing seriously anyway. If they are fated to be together, they will be.

Shippers will have to suffer until they find some sort of closure, either by giving up or getting their ship irrevocably shrunk. At least Solim had a considerable closure with their kisses and drama. And they're actors too. Lucky them, having more freedom.
Poor Sungjoy shippers... the "relationship" barely started to sail into romantic territory. It barely graduated from jokesters to romance, they're just kids... and the wind got taken out of their sails. I hope their shippers have strong hearts because it's going to be a whirlwind shipping them. My own ship sank a long time ago, but I look back at it with fondness. I had a great time observing them with each other so I don't regret it. :D

arent sungjae & joy one of the longest runnning couples in recent memory? that has to be of some comfort. I know some couples who were "divorced" in just 6 months. Sungjae & joy never even got the customary infamous "Divorce card."

0

lol Yes, sungjoy isn't technically "divorced" yet, but they weren't "married" in the first place for realsies anyway so it makes it even. We all know they're officially over as WGM couple, divorce card or not. Our only hope at this time is a drama. I'll even take a collab stage between BtoB and Red Velvet. I try to contain my greed and not doing a very good job. lol

Ehhhh~~~ I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to count myself in as a shipper or not. Like I don't believe bbyu are real in the sense that they're dating, but I dont believe theyre fake either. lmao. I know i dont make sense but let me explain: I think theyre real as long as we take in what theyve shown us as real, and dont extrapolate anything else more from what has been shown. So their flirting could be real, and everything they've ever said to each other real, and @ same time, not become a real couple when it ended w/ the show. Does that sound plausible?
I'm not even sure if they'll ever end up being real, but I have hope it is not impossible either. Like I cant entirely dismiss the theory that they've made an unspoken promise to wait for each other.

More generally, I dont think it's wrong to ship. WGM couples and the show should be considered a success if people ship. It's the shows' premise to get the audience be involved in the set-up relationship. Same principle with dramas. If the couple is working out well and doing their job, shippers ought to exist. Hell, for WGM, even celebrities ship the couples: for the CaoCao couples, so many celebrities are still shipping them and urging them to get together months after the show ended.
Like I said, I don't think shipping is the problem. On the contrary, it's an inevitable and even intentional part of any shows or dramas. Even Running man had love lines. Hahaaaa. It's when people go beyond shipping and prioritize their ship over things like respect of others, including the celebrities involved, or distort or ignore the facts to suit their delusion. Healthy shipping for fun is meant to enhance the entertaiinment factor. The moment you forget the shipping is your own wish, not the celebrities' own will is when the shipping has gone too far. How to know how to behave? Simple, just imagine yourself as that celebrity. Since you can't know what that celebrity feels, just imagine how they would feel in all cases; like how they'd feel if they were dating, not dating, dating someone else, have a ambiguous relationship, and what would make them uncomfortable in each scenario and to be safe, avoid applying all of them in such extreme ways it would feel burdensome. Like not that hard to do... in short. Have fun within boundaries of respect for others. That's it.

And since Sungjae is in BTOB. Free promo:

He just came back 5 minutes ago with a new song. Please check it out. Kamsa.

lmao @ that random MV link at the end of your comment. I'll check it for your effort even though I confess, I dont have much interest in kpop. I'm a kdrama girl all the way.

to reply to your main comment. you sound like a shipper to me, a cynical one. it's not a criticism. skepticism is needed to check delusions from going to far imo.

u have a point. shipping is not necessarily delusional. it becomes delusional when uncertainty becomes certainty in shippers mind, or when people fool themselves into believing their wishful thinking to be fact with little foolproof evidence.

another good point you make about respect. It's impossible to satisfy everyone. there will always be extremes who will get unreasonably offended at harmless things people do, no matter how innocuous. but it's should not stop people, shippers and non-shippers, from walking together and trying to reach the middle ground, or not step on each-others' toes. you can't satisfy everyone, but trying to be considerate of the other side within reason instead of just thinking from your own perspective goes a long way in conciliating both sides. non-shippers should give way and let shippers find their enjoyment. shippers should enjoy without being forceful. both sides shouldn't feel the need to impose their own will on others bc at the end of the day, neither side should matter. they're not the ones dating, the celebrities are. we're third party outsiders, we should act as such. be witnesses rather than meddlers. have fun observing, don't intervene.
then again, I don't watch wgm so maybe I dont know what I'm talking about. But shipping is no stranger to dramaworld. I know that too well. lmao

I agree. It's impossible to satisfy everyone. the basics should be acting in manner one personally would approve of, were one in the other party's shoes. In one word: emphatically. Be conciliating within reason, without it being lopsided.

Pros Of Dating A Serial Killer:
1. Effective Laundry Service
2. Increased Stealth
3. Heightened Alertness
4. Tidiness ( can never find a sloppy S. K, not ones with chocolate abs, at least)
4. Improved Physical Stamina...( I'll let you ponder on just what THAT implies)....

And so many more. What are waiting for? Go out and grab your copy, NOW!!!!!

@panshel's "let's get a divorce" comment. A couple I know actually had this happen. They had a frivolous argument and she said "I want a divorce if you're going to be like this." And he said, "OK." They were divorced less than a year later. She obviously didn't mean what she said, but it was too late. Both were heartbroken afterwards, but too stubborn to give the other the satisfaction of being right.

Oh boyyyy. I don't know how to feel about DB suddenly showing an interest in shipping.

On one hand, I like it, because I'm a shipper myself. On another hand, although I'm a shipper, I try not to express my shipping heart too much.
One part consideration, one bigger part, fear.
I feel a bit embarrassed to admit it tbh. The general community looks askance at shipping. We're not welcome much anywhere (for a good reason. bad apples spoil the basket). It explains the enthusiasm I see from them here. It's rare to be welcomed and have safe place to express one's heart. Sungjoy are not my main ship, but as a very casual shipper, I find them cute in a young innocent unspoiled kind of love. They need a bit more maturity but they're both good people so I don't worry about them should they end up together. They'll be fine. Shipping is always pleasant when both parties in the ship are thoughtful and considerate people. It makes it easier on the shippers for sure.

Shipping can be a tricky business indeed. I'm a Sungjoy/Bbyu shipper so I understand both views. Unless you have shipped it's hard to relate and show empathy. But I see some shippers act as if their entire happiness depends on their ship. It's their choice to base their happiness on whatever pushes their happy button, I get it, but why would they rely on such a feeble and elusive thing as shipping is beyond me. Shipping as a source of entertainment, so one of life's little joys (pun Red Velvet Joy intended har har), I get. As your sole source of happiness... seems unhealthy to me. Then again, I'm not the most objective judge am I? I bet I'm looking pretty unhealthy myself in some people's eyes for being a Sungjoy shipper, and shipping at all. ;o;

I think it's like everything else in life. Do it in moderation. :) I ship couples too when they exhibit so much chemistry onscreen. But I don't get mad at the actors or their real partners when it's revealed that they're dating someone else.

I may get surprised, sad, disappointed, etc. but as long as it doesn't become destructive, we should be free to feel feelings.

The problem with that, or should I say the root to that train of thought comes from the fact that some people are so convinced by their own wishful thinking, so convinced that the clues are irrevocable proof of fact, and have fooled themselves for so long that by the time the actual truth gets unveiled, they can't switch their bad thought habit fast enough to fit the real truth, and not their created reality. So instead of thinking that they have fooled themselves, instead of thinking that all those days of "proof" were not proof after all, because they have thought for so long that those proof were truth, they shift the blame to the celebrities for fooling them with deceptive "clues." When the reality is that those weren't proof to begin with, except woefully misinterpreted in their heads. Notice I don't specify "they" as shippers, because as much as shippers are delusion, non-shippers can be wrong too about the celebrities not dating when they are. All in all, being in love shouldn't be considered wrong, and after the initial disappointment where your thoughts are centered on what you wanted, put yourself in the celebrities' shoes, realize it's a happy thing for them, and congratulate them sincerely for becoming happily in love. It's funny how so many people are unable to do such a simple basic thing.

Any dating news makes me happy! People happy in love makes me happy. It makes up for the lots of stories about broken love I hear in real life.

I used to hang out at koala's playground cos she always announces dating/marriage news. And I always find myself commenting a congratulations... even if I don't know the actors involved. LOL

Also, if a dating news catches me by surprise, I'm usually awed that the actor/actress managed to make me see explosive chemistry with someone else. I consider it a testament to their good acting!

0

Ooooooooh! I used to hang out on koalas pl too! HI-5. I stopped though, because I didn't agree with some things she did. A bit too much gossip for me.

agree about the acting part. It amazes me how chemistry can be created when the actors are married. I envy how secure in their marriage one must feel like. I keep remembering bradgelina and think I could never feel secure dating an actor. Or when chemistry would exist off-screen where actors end up dating, but not be reflective on screen.
