Hi, guys, this is my first time commenting here. I'm always reading everyone else's brilliant commentary. :)
I wanted to ask about some tips on how to balance school work (college/high school) and watching dramas. Sometimes I just feel so frustrated with the lack of time. I am also a procrastinator which definitely doesn't work in my favor. I will be starting college soon and I'm pretty nervous, even though I know it will be fun, I just tend to overstress these kinds of things. Any tips on balancing school life, and about doing well in college?
Thanks!

I can DEFINITELY chime in here!!! Since ten years later, I'm still doing it at work. ;) First of all, I know dramas are very important but having a social life is VERY important as well. I think one thing you would notice is that college life may seem to pass you by.
I can only say that you should limit to what dramas interest you most. STICK to those. Or even WAIT until the episodes come out, then marathon it with your new college friend. There are A LOT OF people in college who ALSO watch korean dramas. Bond with them over that. It may seem hard, but school and your social life SHOULD come first. :D You can watch dramas ANYTIME, even YEARS later. Experiences can't always be made up. Have fun!

Thank you for the tips! I appreciate it! Yes you're right, time definitely flies by. It's SO hard for me to choose between dramas though, I tend to want to watch them all. ? I might have to to wait for breaks. Ah who am I kidding that's not going to happen haha

Hi there! Welcome to OT! ^^ That's a constant question for me too (I just started college recently). I think the biggest thing for me is making sure I have a single set time when I'm watching dramas. If I allow myself to watch them whenever... I watch them all the time. So I've been working really hard lately to limit my drama watching to a set time of day, and then I have to force myself to be productive/social during the rest of the day. Good luck! ^^

Thank you! I need to work on limiting myself too haha :) It's still a struggle but hopefully, I get better at it. I wish the both of us luck in our drama watching struggle!

Sometimes I just feel so frustrated with the lack of time.
I've found that setting up a schedule wherein I get to do nothing but watch dramas helps.
For example: It doesn't matter how busy I am at work, during the week I spend my lunch hour watching a drama. I've given myself permission to spend that hour relaxing.
I use it as a reward, too - if I fold laundry, I get to watch a kdrama while I'm doing it. If I finish all the adulting on Saturday, I can binge-watch on Sunday.
I'd advise setting yourself a schedule. If you finish your coursework & studying, you get to watch XX number of episodes, that kind of thing. That way, you build that internal self-discipline, AND you make watching even more enjoyable, because you can feel superior about it. ;)

Setting up and sticking to my schedule is one of my weakest points, unfortunately. I like that idea of using it as a reward, though, I will definitely try that method out!
Sometimes people don't understand why I watch them so much, but they are a great source of stress relief and inspiration to me. It's not something I can easily compromise on.
Thank you for your suggestions! :)

I was wondering if any of my fellow beanies have the answer to my question. Reminded of this after reading the top 10 second lead post. In the reply 1997 and 1994, they have flash forward scene. Did they film the scene together at the starting or separately? If it was filmed together, this mean the couple have already been decided.

IIRC they filming it together as the episode go on, except the last 2 episode,
so the actors just know the real OTP just when they film the last 2 ep because they haven't got the script as they filming the supposedly future episodes,
all the clues just mention what the actor did, nor their title or their characters real name, but with their name and what should they do,

Thanks Sancheezy for the reply!
Now that makes sense! But just imagine how much effort it takes to make sure that the backdrop, props, clothes, etc is the same throughout the drama. Not that I will notice any differences. Hahaha!

Hi, peeples!
How's the first week of February treating everyone?
I'm getting ready for the move. Been packing, making phone calls, visiting my old stomping grounds. And I'm excited. Much less depressed then I was doing the middle of winter. Might dip again because I'm moving from SoCal to a real seasonal place, Oklahoma. But I'll be with my aunt and still have my med so it will be alright.
Idk if it's the amazing dramas we've had basically from SKL to Lobster, imo. Or the fact that I've been watching my old love, Star Trek, which is hard to beat. But I'm in a bit of a drama slump. Only drama I'm keeping up with is My Shy Boss and that annoyingly got delayed this week. Checked out Nail Shop Paris just now. Other than that my highlight of the week is when my beloved Itazura na Kiss remake comes out. Miss in Kiss is slowly climbing up my faves list. Going to try some new J & Tai dramas.
Have a good weekend!

The owls are on the move I guess! I just moved the beginning of January and still have a couple of boxes to unpack and definitely a lot of arranging to do. It's icy too, snow not melting, and not easy to jump in the car and run around when the plows haven't gotten through. You're making a big move, wishing you well in your new location and getting there!
Nail Shop Paris, that was a wild ride, Jae Rim dream, love him! But a wild kdrama NSP is.

Hi, owls! Best of luck with your moves.
Purple Owl, I kept reading and reading while wondering if you weren't here because it was your moving week. So, almost time! I'm in the US midwest as well and yes, it will be different for you to experience our big swings of weather. Do you know the title song from the musical "Oklahoma" where they sing about the wind that comes whipping off the plains? There will be a lot of that. And you will surely be the cool girl from SoCal to everyone you meet ?
Looking forward to hearing your progress reports!

My bestie and I had a 3 day goodbye sleepover. So the shows are random.
Media this week
Korean:
My Shy Boss - next ep 5
Coffee Prince - watched ep 4
Click Your Heart - all eps
I finished with the fighter-clumsy getting back together. Didn't mean to. I was going to do the cute dongsaeng or the ride-or-die chingu but I was curious about their past love and breakup. I'll see which path is my favorite.
My bias list goes:
1 - Ju Ho the bad boy who listens to her
2 - Dongsaeng the boy who gets his fantasy and brings out her fun side
3 - Chingus who has loved her for 10 years and even after her embarrassing radio broadcasted confession & counter confession
4 - Ro Woon who has all the fixing of a male lead. But I didn't feel the emotional connect on either actors' part until the last 30 seconds.
Nail Shop Paris - next ep 2
Japanese:
Itazura na Kiss (Anime) - ep 21, 22, 23
Taiwanese:
Miss in Kiss - on ep 26
I am in love with this Zhi-shu ge
Western:
Star Trek:TOS - on ep 13
Janice Rand is my best Enterprise female so far.
Movies:
Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging - I love to pick this movis apart with my bestie. Won't be able to do it in person for a few years so it was a perfect addition to our weekend.
Music:
Switchfoot - on 4th album
EXO - monster

Oh Star Trek! You don't see that mentioned much here. So you are on 13 of season 1? Then the next one should be Balance of Terror, which is one of my faves.

so i never watched Solomon's Perjury but i kept up with it through the recaps...always felt like that show resonated with me somehow because they kinda kept trying to find out why so woo died and having lost a good friend the same way has had me constantly wondering about the reason why she ended her life and brought so much pain to her family and friends. i was so angry at one point because it was so selfish. we lost touch over the past few years but our many years of friendship really made me feel guilty because i didnt even know what she was going through despite being in the same school as her throughout her life...the last ep of SP, Jihoon's narration brought tears to my eyes (yes while reading) because those were the words I wanted to say to her, even though i no longer have the chance.
“You were wrong. You left the world with the wrong answer. You turned off a beautiful piece of music after only listening to the prelude. You passed by a lovely flowering tree in the midst of rain. Your life, which you always thought was full of darkness, was a room where the lights had not yet been turned on. It could have changed. It could have been better. So you were wrong. I really wanted to tell you this.”

I'm going to be watching Tomorrow With You and Laurel Tree Tailors this week.
Wondering if the Dramabeans Dream Team had anything with the writing of the former. The main female character reminds me of them...

Late to the party once more, but happy to see y'all once again.
What I've been watching:
Hwarang: I call it "My stupid boy band show", because really, it's pretty shallow. It's really notable for the fact that it's solidified that I really do not care for Go Ara's acting (nor do I think she's terribly attractive - certainly not attractive enough for model-beautiful men to be fighting over). And the crying, oh ye gods and little fishes, the crying.
I'm more interested in Ban Ryu's journey from priggish coddled rich kid to a thinking, moral individual. (And also his star-crossed love story with the remarkably strong-willed Soo-yeon. She gets what she wants, the end.)
I'm also interested in the Princess' political actions - watching her realize that her mother probably sent her to negotiate a marriage (and then decide 'screw that noise') was very compelling. (And then they blew it by having her sit quietly while her people were killed, OMG.)
My Introverted Boss: I had pretty much decided to stop watching this, regardless of how much I like Yeon Woo-Jin's comedy chops, because it seemed to me to be really mean in tone. So much of the 'comedy' seemed to be not about honest misunderstandings but about deliberate problems, and it really bothered me.
But then the drama announced that it was taking a week off & retooling to address criticism, so maybe I'll give it another chance when it comes back. Maybe this time the 'extrovert' won't be an obnoxious ass & the 'introvert' won't be a jerk who doesn't know how to use email to convey his intentions.
Bad Guys: I originally watched this at a site where the subtitles were - to be charitable - very poorly translated. So I watched a majority of it without subtitles, understanding probably one sentence in 10. I loved it. It was tense and exciting and had lots of fighty-fight.
But now Viki has it, and the subtitles make sense, and oh my gosh, it is so much better. So I'm rewatching it & looking forward to understanding it. :)
Dearest Sister: Cambodian horror film which was really good. It's available on "Shudder". Go watch it.
***
Library check-out of Korean materials is still brisk - I added Scarlet Heart: Ryeo a couple of weeks ago & it's been checked out ever since. I mean, who can resist the lure of that much Pretty? As Kate Beaton said, "Ugly people may have lived back then, but we'll never know for sure."
Train to Busan has a huge wait list still, and we're still the only library in the county that has it. :preens:
We're waiting for The Handmaiden to come in; there's already a huge wait list for that one, too.
I'm trying to decide what to buy next. Bad Guys? Cheo Yong? Goblin?
I'd like to buy Luck-Key and Tattoo, but apparently, those can't be had for love or money.

Can someone recommend me some korean drama to watch based on what I like? My favourites: Reply 1997 (I've seen all the Reply series but this was the only one I like), Misaeng, Age of Youth, Sassy Go Go, and Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Ju. Thanks :)))
