The chase is on for a killer with a smile in spine-tingling Voice teasers

The January 14 premiere date is fast approaching for OCN’s new thriller Voice, and two bone-chilling teasers have been released, one of which is five minutes long and serves as a proper introduction to the characters at play and the harrowing stories ahead. Lee Hana (Unkind Women) plays a voice profiler named Kang Kwon-joo, whose unique ability to identify sounds allows her to pinpoint the location of victims in danger. She works at the emergency call center where she assembles the “golden time team” to swiftly rescue endangered individuals within the golden time of three minutes, which can determine their life or death.

Jang Hyuk (Beautiful Mind) stars as Moo Jin-hyuk, a volatile ex-violent crimes detective who’s never been the same after his wife was murdered by a serial killer, the same one who took the life of Lee Hana’s father and has yet to be caught. Together, the unlikely pair use their strengths to save innocent lives and bring criminals to justice. Yesung (Awl), Baek Sung-hyun (Doctors), and Sohn Eun-seo (Bring it On, Ghost) costar as members of the golden time team.

Warning: The five-minute teaser is a disturbing watch. On a snowy evening, a battered woman staggers on barefoot through dark alleyways, as a hooded figure stalks her from a distance. Meanwhile, Jang Hyuk’s fending off a group of thugs on a dock when one of them pulls a knife on him. We see the menacing cheshire grin of the hooded figure before he knocks the woman from earlier to the ground and bludgeons her to death with a kettlebell. We cut to Jang Hyuk at her funeral; the victim was his wife. His colleague Baek Sung-hyun is there, too, and a grief-stricken Jang Hyuk declares that the murderer must be locked up forever: “If by chance he gets out, then I’m going to kill that guy. Understand?”

We see Lee Hana at the funeral of her cop father whose death she wasn’t able to prevent while working at the call center. She’s still in mourning when she contends in court that her father’s convicted murderer was not the voice she heard that night. Jang Hyuk gets up from the back and hollers at her to stop lying before being forcibly removed. Three years following the serial murder case, Lee Hana gets the okay from her boss to form her “golden time” rescue team and recruits Sohn Eun-seo, who can speak five languages, and Yesung, an eager do-gooder. Jang Hyuk goes ballistic on a criminal at the police station and sarcastically thanks Lee Hana for wanting to hire him as leader of her team before demanding to know why she said she heard something she didn’t hear three years ago.

Meanwhile, a young girl follows a shady man and contacts the call center to save her; she’s been kidnapped, a “code zero,” and Lee Hana and her associates get to work. She guides Jang Hyuk to the kidnapping victim’s possible location and concludes that the kidnapper is likely a serial killer and proceeds to hone in on a sound she can’t readily place. As the kidnapper raises a bloody hammer to kill his victim, Jang Hyuk arrives in the nick of time thanks to Lee Hana’s deductions, and the girl frantically escapes. Back at the call center, Lee Hana addresses her boss: “The purpose and duty of our golden time team is to save the victim while (s)he is still alive.” At the end, Jang Hyuk realizes that sound played an important factor, just like it did three years ago.

In the thirty-second teaser, the copy reads, “The first ever sound-chasing thriller is beginning. Criminal golden time of three minutes. Save the victim standing at the crossroads of life and death.” *shudder* I’ll probably be watching Voice through my fingers and praying that there won’t be too much gratuitous violence. There’s only so much my heart and eyes can take!

Voice will air on Saturdays and Sundays on OCN, and premieres this Saturday, January 14.

Looks great! I hope there's a twist re: the killer tho...cause I can already tell which actor that jawline belongs to...?

The sound design is appropriately amazing as well.

This year is brighter than last year I hope. With voice, boyoung, sassy girl, rebel, saimdang. I just happy with those tho, but I could get some bonuses

Oh yay! I had forgotten it was airing so soon. I've loved most of the OCN dramas and have been in the mood for something more serious/heart-pounding in "is he a serial killer" way rather than "is he a secret chaebol who had a traumatic childhood and now needs love and subway to heal".

Both LOL and depressed at your accurate description of too many dramas: “is he a secret chaebol who had a traumatic childhood and now needs love and subway to heal”.

I can't stop laugh. The serial killer also could had a traumatic childhood, a secret birth, he work at a convenience store and after he find outs his cheabol family, he buy a lot, expensive subway for the leading lady.

Lee Hana...... why are her eyes so dead. So inexpressive. And her acting is just out of place. I thought I liked in her High School Savvy; but I realised it was only because of the cute chemistry mainly due to Seo In Guk.
Her acting looks quite stiff tbh.

I hope she gets better, as her role is important too.
I will prefer Sohn Eun-seo than her, this girl has been playing supporting roles for long time already. Wish this role is interesting.

I really like her...she's the calm focused one, tormented but driven to right the past, to find the killer. Polar opposite to Jang Hyuk, who's tormented and crazed. To me, she's great from what I see so far.

Yesssss. OCN doesn't disappoint when it comes to action and suspense. The 5 minute teaser was great. I hope the first episode will have more to it than introducing the characters and focusing on this first case.

Really excited to see Jang Hyuk take on a detective role!!

Oh I just remember Bok Joo will be replaced by Missing 9 and Geum Bi will be replaced by Chief Kim. On top of that there will Introverted Boss.

Looks like I will be busier with kdrama this year.

If you are watching all 6 then your plate is full for sure! Omg yes I forgot Nan Goong Min's drama too! ?

I'm not sure how I'm going to juggle them with the leftover episodes of Goblin as well as Real Life.

A drama addict's perpetual woe- too many dramas and too little time!

Wow, I'm still shaking. I appreciate the disclaimer, too, because I would've been a lot worse without it. It looks like Jang Hyuk is taking a leaf out of Bad Guys Oh Goo-Tak's book in his acting--he plays it well. I like Lee Hana here, too; she's playing a character normally given to the guys, I've noticed: the skilled, traumatized detective. She has that same guarded, disillusioned look without being listless. I like it. Mostly, I'm just excited to have another crime thriller to watch. ^^ Thanks, Chickachunga!

+10000

I got the same exact Bad Guys vibe. And I'm also happy I'm not the only one looking forward to Lee Hana. I'll admit I haven't really watched anything else with her in it but nothing abt her acting in this trailer makes me think of her as a bad actress.

God I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!! I need something grittier after nothing but fluff dramas for the past little bit I'm just worried that it might get a little too heavy a la Bad Guys rather than just heavy enough.

Its the opposite for me.
I thought she did very well in giving me a feel of her character. She looked professional with her straight face and I especially love the scenes where she was in her element and was figuring out the crime location. It looked very believable. It looks like she's a serious, straight-faced police officer and I can just see her clashing with Jang Hyuk's sarcastic, devil-may-care officer. Its great how effective the teaser is!

I like her face. Am not familiar with the actress but from what I've seen, I like that she looks competent and not like she's posing. Its funny, I saw the reaction to her casting on db and thought she'd be horrible but if what the teaser has shown us is how she acts, then I mos def will watch this show as I was previously scared that Jang Hyuk would be paired with either an unemoting robot or an overly emotional amateur.

Lee Hana is fine. People just wanna hate.

I actually think Jang Hyuk can come off too crazed sometimes. He did a great job in Beautiful Mind though.

From start Lee Hana was targeted. But the trailer shows she is doing well.

I like the killer but his brutality was a bit too much. Why splatter the blood and flesh everywhere. Be economical and time efficient and do your job in time bound manner.

Turn killing into an art and that will increase the crazy and dangerous atmosphere more.

@zia I agree with you on Jang Hyuk.

Lee hana is good.. she may appear dull/plain but she's emoting accurately here as a serious, straight-faced policewoman as Flightey Gazelles has mentioned. Plus, I actually think that she portrayed her character in High School Savvy so well- so awkward and eccentric, that u will actually cringe watching her character LOL

She's not bad, I like her in High School King of Savvy, she portrayed that odd personality of the lead gal so well....I think she has potential.....

I must be getting jaded over seeing so many crime dramas with the same kind of opening.

It would have been SO COOL if, after that long stalking scene, the woman had bludgeoned the guy in the hoody to death. And laughed.

How would THAT be for a plot twist?

the killer will be someone in their midst, won't it? that's how it usually goes with these shows, and i have to admit, that's what makes it fun. trying to figure out which one of the side/peripheral characters could be the bad guy.

definitely doesn't look like anything i'll be watching at night in the dark. i did that with signal a few times and i regretted it sorely for days afterwards—i kept hearing things and possibly worse, seeing things.

I was thinking that too! In the end of the 5-minute trailer when the characters' names are introduced one by one, Yessung's character was smiling and oddly, it reminded me of the grin of the serial killer the leads are trying to hunt down.

I guessed so but from what I seen from episode 1, if the killer is one of their team members, Lee Ha Na should already know it based on her awesome voice profiling ??

OK so I wasn't looking forward to this drama but I caved and watched the teaser.

Wow, it looks so intense. And its dark which I appreciate. Am loving Jang Hyuk's rough and jaded look. That blank and dead voice as he vows to catch his wife's murderer... colour me hooked.

And as for Lee Hana, at first I thought she was the Younger looking cop but it appears she's more in charge which is a plus. I'm liking that she looks older and more experienced. Can't believe how a five minute teaser changes everything.

I've just watched epi 1 last night and I can see how different Lee Ha Na acted between her first scene of getting Jang Hyuk's wife's call and then to 3 years later....(the first scene she still have emotions on her face whereas 3 years later she become an emotionless faced person aka robot-faced person....I think it might be becos of the guilt that she couldn't save his wife, being accused of taking bribe from the so-called-accused-killer and also over her father's death....what I don't understand is how her dad's death occured as it was not shown and how it is being link to Jang Hyuk's wife's death (that they think that it was the same killer who killed them both)...also, did she master her talent of being a "voice profiler" after she went to USA after his father's death OR before ?? I hope in the coming episodes they can answer my questions....
