Sung Joon up for Perfect Wife, Lee Sang-yub out

Sung Joon (Madame Antoine) is the latest candidate to potentially act alongside Go So-young (Blue Fish) in her drama comeback Perfect Wife. His role was initially offered to Lee Sang-yub, who was still considering up until yesterday, but he must have turned it down because now Sung Joon is the top name being floated around to play the part.

For the upcoming drama, Go So-young turns into a dutiful housewife and mother of two children, who becomes embroiled in an incident that leads her to rediscover her femininity and renew her sense of purpose in life. Yoon Sang-hyun (Shopping King Louis) and Jo Yeo-jung (Divorce Lawyer in Love) have both confirmed their roles in the drama. Yoon will play Go’s naive husband, a department head in a construction materials firm, whereas Jo will play the main person who brings the life-changing incident to Go.

If Sung Joon also joins, he will be a dirt-poor lawyer with strong ambitions and dreams of success. It sounds similar to his High Society character, except he’ll be a lawyer this time instead of a corporate worker. I liked him more in I Need Romance 3, where the chemistry between him and his co-star Kim So-yeon was off the charts. Since both the female leads for Perfect Wife are older, perhaps his noona-killing powers will end up impressing again.

KBS’s Perfect Wife will air starting next February after Hwarang ends.

Sad that Lee Sang-Yeob turned it down, but he clearly had his reason.

LSY was the reason I got interested with this drama. Now, I'm out. I hope He will choose a good drama for his next project. And hopefully, he will be the main lead.

Hate to agree, but same here. Idk if I'm missing something, but he's such an awkward actor. He's very unnatural and awkward to watch, especially when he's taking on meaty roles. Idk if he's inexperienced or if he's just not improving... Granted, I've only seen a few of his works (and not even in its entirety), so maybe I AM missing something, but I don't like his acting from what I've seen so far. Idek his rl personality to even have something to hold onto. I like his character description, though! The others sound kinda confusing since there's not much info to go by.

Agree with you, something is missing in his acting. Maybe he can do certain roles, maybe a lively character, no melodrama. And he really needs good script and better partner.

Yes! I totally agree about no melodramas for Sung Joon! Aha. I don't mind seeing him as side characters like his role in Gu Family Book. But then again, I don't think I had a problem with him in Shut Up Flower Boy Band, either and he was the lead there... I guess it's all in the script and the role and everyone else making him comfortable enough to look and act better. I will always remember this one scene of his in Hyde (I think it was this drama...) where he was talking to another character (probably Han Ji-min's) and omg, his facial expressions were so off-putting, I was like, "WHAT is going on!?" He was either trying too hard or not trying hard enough. Yo no sé... ??‍♀️

Its his eyes, they are very devoid of any real emotions while emoting and hence I never truly connect to him. He isn't a bad but he sort of builds this wall between him and the drama while acting so that detachment works against him.

Try I Need Romance 3! Just like what the OP mentioned, his chemistry with KSY is totally off the charts! It will make you scream. XD His other works were just bland but INR3 made me realize that the kid can act.

Hadn't been following this, but clicked immediately when I saw Sung Joon.

I only just fell for Lee Sang Yeob because of This Week. But Sung Joon has had me since 2013. I'm glad to have him back. My most watched actor!

And yay! Oska/Cha Joong Won too!

Idk the ladies but I'm tentatively there.

If he chooses this drama then I really hope this time he would actually act, I liked him in Shut up, White Christmas and I need romance and disliked him in his last three projects.
So, please Sung Joon if you choose this drama don't ruin it, I want to like you again

its not that he can't act, its that he keeps choosing bad roles of people who are emotionless.

I'm with Nina, "Please Sung Joon... I want to like you again!" He's only 26, hopefully he plays his age and brings out the smexy again.

I couldn't watch more than the first episode of Madame Antoine, but I suffered through High Society. I was really rooting for Sung Joon in that one, but it just never worked. I still can't decide if it was him, UEE, or the writing that killed that drama for me. (My love for SJ's smolder makes me want to point fingers at anyone but him).

I dropped "Madame Antoine" after the first few eps, and I only watched bits and pieces of "High Society" not really following it. However Sung Joon is one of the handsomest k-actors. He has screen presence, and he always brings hotness to his roles, the only problem is that I don't feel that he picks his roles well. He just needs to pick good scripts and improve his acting a bit. As an actor I find him to be fairly good but not great. I hope that this role will be a solidly good one, finally. This also reminds me to pick "I Need Romance 3" up again, because I think that this drama has potential.

Actually i am glad that LSY turned down the rule, this drama doesn't sound that appealing, i wish he will find a better role, I wasn't interested in this drama since the beginning but now i am completely OUT, I don't like this actor.

Kim Seo Yoon was his co-star in I Need Romance that's why he was acceptable in that drama in HS and MA he was baad, can't stand him.

With Lee Sang Yub turned down this
offer, my interest slightly decreased. Sung Joon is good looking, yes but his two latest drama made me put him as one of bad actors. The writing sucks but this guy reallyy needs to work on his facial expression. maybe a good writing can help him, just like Uee who was bad in High Society but good in Marriage Contract.

I don't know, I thought his acting sucked in INR3. It was actually that drama that turned my love for Sung Joon's acting to acute dislike. I thought his last best work was SUFBB but credit must be given to the director who made all the rookie actors look good, heck even L looked good in that drama.

Who is the male lead? Please tell me it's Yoon Sang-hyun. Sung Joon is a limited actor, and his performances in High Society and Madame Antoine were really bad.

It's written in the article above. Sing Joon will be supporting cast.

I read it again, and it doesn't say that. That, or I'm clearly blind. Is this an assumption based on something written or do you have more information from elsewhere? Anyway, I'll be glad if Yoon Sang-hyun is main male lead.

Yoon Sang Hyun is NOT the male lead, he more like a second lead.
Sung Joon is take the lead roles.

Ever? Really? Have you seen all the actors in the world to make this decision?
He is okey, he is one of those actors who need a good script. He is not like Song Jong ki who can make a bad drama watchable and not like Suzy who kills anything she is in

I loved him so much in Shut Up! but his last 3-4 roles have been beyond disappointing. I want Lee Sangyub to act a goofy character again.

So I'm usually of the persuasion that it is always more productive to focus on positives rather than negatives. In pursuit of this sentiment, I generally refrain from calling out actors or actresses I don't care for.

But... today shall be an exception. My apologies! ;)

Sung Joon... Sung Joon....
What to do with you?

Actually it's probably incorrect to say I don't like...him... It's more that I think he's habitually miscast.

The guy is perfectly fine (some might say he even shines) when he's playing roles in the vein of I Need Romance 3.

Swoony music producer/live-in boyfriend/heart-throb? Gotcha. No problem. I can see it friends! The guy's handsome and has those dreamy attributes women everywhere drop panties for. [I've heard 'ye women folk have a thing for his deep voice. ;)]

But surgeon?

Psychologist??

Attorney???

The man does not scream learned intellectual or man-in-charge.

Yet he's cast again and again and again in roles he doesn't have the presence for (in my opinion).

Why?

Anyway... sorry if I've offended any Sung Joon fanatics.

:/

I described Sung Joon in another article awhile back. I think that characterization is still apt.

He's more “live-in boyfriend swinging free rent in exchange for sex while swooning high school girls look on”.

Basically his character in INR3.

;)
