Weekend drama Blow Breeze swaps out actress midway
by tineybeanie
Oh Ji-eun, Im Soo-hyang
MBC’s weekend drama Blow Breeze is currently undergoing some difficult times. The trouble is that they need to switch actresses for the second lead part, right in the middle of its run. According to her agency Mystic Entertainment, the drama’s second lead Oh Ji-eun (Make a Wish) is suffering from an ankle injury, and must regretfully bow out of Blow Breeze to focus on her recovery.
On September 26, while filming for Blow Breeze, Oh Ji-eun ruptured the anterior ligament of her ankle, and was prescribed eight weeks of non-activity. Afterwards though, she tried to keep on working while receiving treatment at the hospital. However, she eventually could not continue when it became apparent that she needed surgery. Thus, after a period of negotiation with the production team, it was decided that she would leave the drama. Her last appearance in Blow Breeze was Episode 12, which aired this past Sunday, October 2.
The family drama is about a North Korean refugee (played by Im Ji-yeon) and a South Korean lawyer (played by Sohn Ho-joon) finding love in the midst of a battle for the huge inheritance of a dying old chaebol grandpa. Oh Ji-eun’s character, Park Shin-ae, will be replaced by another actress, though who will be cast is still up in the air. The one name being floated around as the strongest contender is Im Soo-hyang (Five Kids, Age of Feeling). Apparently, she’s in negotiations but nothing has been confirmed yet. Park Shin-ae is the evil rival who lives to be a thorn in the side of Im Ji-yeon’s character, Kim Mi-poong. As a child in North Korea, Park Shin-ae received much financial aid from Mi-poong’s family, who was rich at the time.
Despite their kindhearted help, she betrayed them by stealing their money and running away. Described as having a strong survival instinct, Park Shin-ae is a two-faced conniver with a hardened heart. For instance, she acts like a helpless angel to draw the attention of Cho Hee-dong (Han Joo-wan’s character), who is related to the chaebol grandpa. However, in front of the people she’s wronged, she is unabashed by her nasty, selfish actions. Blow Breeze marks Oh Ji-eun’s first time in an antagonist’s role since her debut in 2003, and was praised for her natural acting as Park Shin-ae.
No matter who is cast, this situation is hard for everyone involved. It was Oh Ji-eun’s first comeback project in a year and seven months, so she is understandably disappointed that she won’t be able to be with the drama until the end. Meanwhile all hell has probably broken loose because the production team needs to cast another actress, rewrite the script to take into account the change, re-film scenes as necessary, all while carefully monitoring the audience’s response. Whoever becomes the second Park Shin-ae has to deal with the burden of living up to the expectations set by Oh Ji-eun, and staying consistent in terms of mannerisms and acting style.
Well, we’ll see how it plays out. Weekend family drama Blow Breeze still has 38 more episodes to go. It airs on Saturdays and Sundays on MBC.

Oh dear. She must be feeling so terrible but her health is the most important thing. Just like when Fresh Prince's mom sddenly changed and no one batted an eye or like any other Western show, they should just allow the new girl to take over.

It was his aunt...but you're right, this drama is long and won't end in months, viewers will eventually get used to a different face.
My only concern is that the new actress isn't as good- putting it lightly.

Thanks for the update.
Oh Ji-eun must be so disheartened right now. My heart goes out to her. I've been watching the drama, but have only just seen her character. Hope she recuperates quickly and is rewarded with an even better part in another drama.
I've watched the first eight episodes. It's an interesting story, but hoping it gets better. Was thrilled to see Sohn Ho-jun (Ms Cop) finally land a lead in a drama. Hwang Bo-ra (Ms Temper & Nam Jung-gi) and Jang Se-hyun (I Have A Lover, Ms Cop) are my favorite pair right now, they are absolutely hilarious.

Poor girl, but yeah her health is most important.
I am currently watching this drama and in episode 11 the character said something about getting plastic surgery because she doesn't wanna be recognized by the family. Maybe that's what they added to the script to cover the change of actress?

Yikes, that sounds like a tough challenge for the production team. Best of luck to them and a thorough recovery to Oh Ji-eun. She was very entertaining in the drama The King of Dramas.

she's such a good actress too bad she won't be in the drama anymore but yes, health first... I was just watching episode 11 and I think the chase scene with Mi Poong eomma might be the one that they're talking about... really really hope to see her soon in another drama after rehab...
btw, I'm glad a few of our Dramabeans folks are watching Blow Breeze too... :)

Although I have only watched Blow Breeze up until episode 10 (I am still waiting for English subs for this weekend's episodes), it's too bad that Oh Ji-eun could not stay for much longer. I wish her all the best for her recovery. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one watching this drama. I feel that it's not talked about as often compared to other dramas airing right now. (Maybe it's because of it's episode length?). Anyways, thanks for the update on the show!

Neither Viki nor Dramafever got licensing for "Blow Breeze", glad I found a place to watch a licensed showing. ODK is a good site to watch licensed Korean content.

I don't think ODK has or does any subbing. All the ones I looked at were raw episodes.

ODK does do subbing, but you have to have a premium account to see the ones that they do sub. I have a premium account there and that's where I'm watching the subs for Blow Breeze. ^^

There are a few sites that have subbed versions, but I am sure they are pirated. I could find no licensed site that had subs.

Noooo. Poor her. I am watching this too, even honestly the main leads' acting are boring. Their acting. sigh. But the other are quite entertaining. Sohn Ho-jun is actually quite OK, but maybe he needs better partner. Im Jo Eun's acting is so cringeworthy.
If Im Soo Hyang confirmed, she also wont be any better, based on her past projects. The storyline is quite OK so far.

I thought she was quite okay, but honestly, weekend dramas do not need the strongest acting skills to make the show interesting. As long as the scriptwriter could make a solid story that doesn't become too makjang-ish, then the weekend drama becomes good

Agreed. However, family weekend drama/ daily drama (i used family because there are weekend drama that not on family plot like the current Flower In Prison) normally do not have a solid plot, therefore I will still prefer good acting. Not that I expected strongest acting skills, it will be unfair, as long as I can relate with the acting, then it will be OK. Of course that's my preference and I don't expect everyone agree with me.

she must be disheartened but if it is the ankle and it is serious enough she has to pull out of the drama, it could be torn, which would mean she won´t even be able to get up from a chair without help or clutches. I was down with my ankle once and I couldnt even go and get myself a glass of water when I sat at the kitchen table. torn ankle hurts a LOT. takes around 3 months to heal, too. She needs to get swimming, the ankle has to get movement but no pressure.

She will be missed. Although there wasn't that much of her anyway till like episode 10. I like this drama. I like the leads, the secondary characters. They seem to have found a good way to balance pace and story-telling without making all involved too cliched. Good luck to her and the team.

While this is a terrible situation, I have to look at the upside.
More Im Soo-hyang is always a good thing in my opinion.

A shame to see her go as I was watching the said show because I heard that she was in it. But understandable her health comes first so I can only hope that she can get better soon and we get to see her in some other work which goes well.
On the other hand Dramabeans you must feel honored that Wikipedia is using your article as a sign of reference. Good Work and congratulations on your achievement.
