The K2: Episode 8

Loyalties will be put to the test when more dangers are thrown in Je-ha’s path which require him to stay alert at all times. He won’t be the only one in harm’s way though, since a series of unexpected events will threaten to tip the political scales against Yoo-jin’s favor. Everyone has something to lose, but if a few of them play their cards right, they’ll have everything to gain.

EPISODE 8 RECAP

In the morning, Je-ha relieves a dozing Mi-ran and housekeeper of sitting by Anna’s bedside all night. He asks if Anna needs anything before he returns to the safe house later that day, and takes her silence as a no.

“Why… did you bring my dad?” she asks. He answers, “So you wouldn’t die.” She doesn’t see why it would matter to anyone whether she lives or dies, which is when Je-ha tersely returns that a lot of people were worried about her.

She apologizes for making all the “baddies” like him worry, a term Je-ha takes in stride. He counters that she could at least appreciate how everyone is breaking their backs to protect her. “Making me ramyun, giving me ice cream, and pretending to be like my dad… is that what you call protecting me?” She fires back.

She tells him to leave, and Je-ha mutters that he made a worthless promise to her father before storming out. “Promise?” Anna muses.

Yoo-jin lashes out at Chief Joo and his superior, CEO Gook, when they arrive at her office regarding the latest attempt on Se-joon’s life. She scoffs at Chief Joo’s declaration to step down from his position in show of taking responsibility for the mess: “Don’t you know what the ways of stepping down are like here?”

She moves on for now and learns that the police are pretending to investigate the case. She decides to deal with the woman accusing Se-joon of sexual assault at a later time, but right now they must hunt down the agent who betrayed them.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor’s office follow up on Se-joon’s call for investigating major international finance corporations for corruption. While one company is presented with an arrest warrant, another undergoes a search and seizure.

As promised, Se-joon arrives at the prosecutor’s office for his own investigation. Not only does the press bombard him with questions there, they’re also waiting outside Se-joon’s home.

Yoo-jin graciously invites the prosecutors inside, showing them the boxes of documents she already organized for them to take. She’s also prepared lunch, and the others are led away while she speaks alone with the lead prosecutor.

She asks how the ongoing investigation is going, and when the prosecutor says he’s unable to show much leniency to her relatives caught up in the case, she instructs him to be strict and impartial with her relatives.

Speaking of whom, Sung-won’s father-in-law is still unable to get in touch with the Presidential Chief of Staff. He chuckles at how Yoo-jin may have the chief of staff wrapped around her finger, but Yoo-jin wouldn’t dare to strike his conglomerate Jinhan Group nor JB Group since she couldn’t finance Se-joon’s campaign otherwise.

But Sung-won’s mother believes that Yoo-jin will stop at nothing to get what she wants, and Sung-won’s father-in-law adds that they must find an ally before Se-joon is sworn in as president.

Representative Park is filled in on the ongoing investigation through the radio while he gets another shave. His secretary cites that all the companies currently involved are their sponsors, and get the green light to name in front of the politician’s barber the few assemblymen left who still support him.

Representative Park sends his barber away, then asks his secretary if Se-joon has a lucky streak or if they’re cursed with bad luck. His secretary believes that Se-joon has someone special on his side, namely the one who tried to attack the politician with the remote and revolving door.

Following an angry conversation regarding the investigation of the other politicians, Representative Park fumes to hear that Se-joon is unlikely to be indicted.

Remember that photo of Anna floating around social media? Yoo-jin finally gets wind of the photo’s existence, and Secretary Kim nudges the idea that Yoo-jin should make a decision about what to do with Anna.

During the ride back to the safe house, Anna thinks back to when Je-ha gave her mouth-to-mouth. She purses her lips, then softly asks what sort of promise Je-ha was referring to. When he doesn’t readily answer, she yells the question at him.

He tells her that he isn’t deaf and to sit back down. He explains that he promised her father that he’d protect her no matter what. He won’t let anyone touch her, even if that person is Yoo-jin.

She says no one asked him to, a statement Je-ha agrees with. Despite her father’s request, he’ll respect Anna’s wishes since she’s an adult. He asks if she understands, and she returns a soft “yes”.

Anna thanks Je-ha for agreeing to her father’s request and bringing him so she could find out for herself that her father abandoned her. Je-ha tells her to stop whining because her father didn’t abandon her. She gets worked up at that statement, and Je-ha cuts her off and agrees that her father is a terrible man and politician.

But if her father had truly abandoned her, she wouldn’t even be alive to this day. Yoo-jin doesn’t gamble with uncertainty either, so Anna needs to grow up quickly if she wants to enter a battle against Yoo-jin.

An entertainment news writer is one step behind another writer when it comes to writing a piece about the fashion designer’s Korean muse. Elsewhere, one young man’s speculation that he’s seen Anna in his neighborhood is quickly shot down, but then he spots Anna riding in the car and trails behind in his scooter.

He drives up to the safe house and gets caught snapping a photo of Anna. He doesn’t get far because his scooter won’t start, then shows Je-ha the photo of Anna circulating the internet.

Je-ha sends the guy away and collects Anna from the car. He makes a fist, gesturing for her to “freeze” in place, then opens his hand to signal at her to “go”. She isn’t familiar with the concept, so he quickly explains the rules. She catches on when he signals at her to “go” and she walks forward.

He then instructs her to sit, and he smiles and pats her head when she obediently complies. Dude, she’s not a puppy. He keeps using the Freeze-Go tactic on her as they head upstairs, but he doesn’t respond when she tries it on him.

Per Je-ha’s request, Master Song makes an anonymous call to an entertainment news department telling them that the “Barcelona Angel” is a girl named Anna, who is also the daughter to the late movie star Um Hye-jin.

At the same time, Scooter Boy uploads Anna’s photo to support his claim that he saw Anna. He even leaks the address to safe house, which we learn were also part of Je-ha’s instructions.

This mean Yoo-jin’s no-good-very-bad day is about to get even worse, because by the time Yoo-jin hears about the leak, she’s told that the safe house is already surrounded with reporters and fans.

Yoo-jin calls CEO Gook, who is heading over to Anna with a team as they speak. He asks if it’s possible to make a call without Yoo-jin’s prior authorization depending on how severe the situation is at the safe house.

He pretty much expects Yoo-jin’s answer that it’s easier dealing with a corpse (Anna’s) than silencing a crowd, but he doesn’t think her husband will agree.

So Yoo-jin instructs Secretary Kim to make a call. The strike squad leader (Jo Dong-hyuk) picks up and receives his instructions. Yoo-jin tells the man that he should be scared of her right now, as the squad leader rests a gun on the car seat.

While the news reporter who wrote the article on Anna inquires into who the true owner of the house is and Anna’s relationship to Um Hye-rin, Chief Joo barks at Mi-ran to stay put inside the house.

Je-ha is busy scanning the neighboring buildings when Chief Joo calls to inform him that CEO Gook and the strike squad is headed their way. He’s told that Anna’s fate rests in his hands now.

In the car, CEO Gook instructs the squad to take Anna out if she’s about to spill the beans about her father. The squad leader instructs one of his men to keep close to the target, and then the CEO jumps back in to tell the squad that if they get caught, they don’t know one another. Way to step on the squad leader’s toes there.

Je-ha heads upstairs to collect Anna, who sits nervously on her bed. He reassures her that she can do it, and that makes her smile. Just as CEO Gook and the strike squad arrive, the housekeeper ventures outside to ask the crowd to refrain from using flash photography when Anna appears.

She heads back inside to get Anna, who peers outside to see Je-ha. Anna doesn’t know that Je-ha has already taken out a sniper, and recognizes his raised fist as “freeze”. He gives her a thumbs-up in approval.

Her eyes scan across the buildings to see Je-ha—who has taken down another sniper—in another spot. He shows her his open palm. “Go,” she utters and nods. Anna says a prayer to herself and her eyes fill with determination.

Je-ha heads downstairs and spots the squad leader descending the neighboring staircase. They meet at the bottom, and the squad leader chucks his gun into the grass. He then charges at Je-ha with a scissor kick, then spins around to throw a punch.

Je-ha catches his arm and responds with a flying kick, but the squad leader avoids the attack and tries to catch Je-ha with a low swooping kick. Both men are evenly-matched blow for blow.

Meanwhile, Anna steps outside to an enthusiastic crowd who quiets down to hear her speak. She takes a deep breath and introduces herself. It’s at that moment Yoo-jin arrives and she gapes upon seeing the crowd.

Time to check back in on the fight, which has now moved to the grass. A flying kick sends the squad leader down, and Je-ha takes a punch before spinning on the ground and pull the squad leader down with him.

He grabs him in a leglock, but the squad leader wrenches himself free, leaving a cut on Je-ha’s cheek. The squad leader removes his blazer, and soon both of them are sporting some cuts as they simultaneously kick the other in the chest.

Je-ha grabs the squad leader’s legs again, but the latter frees himself once more and pins Je-ha to the ground. He gets a few jabs in until Je-ha grabs his head in a leglock. When he spins out again, Je-ha locks his arm in a different position.

But yet again the squad leader breaks free and he hits Je-ha’s head with his knee. That breaks the hold, and while Je-ha suffers from a dizzy spell, the squad leader pops his dislocated shoulder back in.

Back to Anna’s press conference, where she explains that she was in Barcelona, but she’s not an angel. Desperate, Yoo-jin pushes through the crowd just in time to hear the reporter ask Anna who her father is. CEO Gook instructs his snipers to shoot, but they’re both unconscious.

Everyone waits with bated breath for her answer, and CEO Gook signals a squad member to make his move. The man bears a pocket knife and draws near, which is when Mi-ran spins around and takes down the man.

Anna explains that she is a Korean citizen, and adds. “And my father is…” She pauses and scans her surroundings to meet Yoo-jin tensely shaking her head no.

“My father…” Anna starts, her eyes still fixed on Yoo-jin. “… is the late director Go Jun-ho.” She and Yoo-jin share a telepathic conversation where Yoo-jin thinks, “What are you trying to play at?” Anna: “Hard to say. I’m sure you’ll find out soon enough.”

But then Secretary Kim uses the flash on her phone and the other photographers quickly follow suit. Anna collapses to the ground, and Yoo-jin rushes to her side acting like a concerned mother.

Je-ha stands victorious from the long fight, albeit bloody and bruised. He checks in on Anna later that night, and seeing her tears brings tears to his eyes too. He heads downstairs and takes full responsibility for today’s events, much to Yoo-jin’s displeasure.

When Yoo-jin asks why he did it, Je-ha candidly replies that this outcome was better than having Anna killed in the public eye. Secretary Kim wonders why he didn’t report his plan ahead of time, but Yoo-jin concedes to the idea that Je-ha acted in a swift manner.

She gives him an airy “good work”, adding that she isn’t disheartened because she could easily have Anna killed tomorrow. Je-ha says nothing.

She dismisses the ladies so she and Je-ha can speak alone. He takes a seat, and Yoo-jin remarks on how hard Je-ha has been working—he saved Se-joon from Representative Park’s clutches and he saved Anna from her.

Yoo-jin asks if he’ll keep up this immature act and give up on his personal revenge. Now that their enemies have drawn their swords, she’d very much like to pull the trigger.

Secretary Kim argues in the car that Je-ha was lying, to which Yoo-jin barks back that she knew he was. She berates her for butting in, saying that Secretary Kim should be able to discern the difference when she is pretending to be duped versus when she’s actually fooled. Her greater concern is that Anna now wields the power in her hands. Is that… a pout I see?

Sung-won’s mother watches the news story covering Anna, the “Barcelona Angel”, and her guardian, Yoo-jin. Smiling, she makes a call.

Back at the safe house, Je-ha resumes his nightly duties monitoring the cameras. He notices Anna head for the attic and gets up, knowing that she’s headed for the roof.

He sits at a distance, watching her and thinking back to their entire history together. He jumps to action when Anna wobbles on the tiles, sliding toward her and sprawling out on the roof when she turns back. He’s in a not-so-casual mid-crawl when she points him out. Heh.

He awkwardly gets to his feet and insists that he’s unhurt. He then berates her for coming up to a dangerous roof, and when he turns to leave, she asks him to stay. She encourages him to sit because it’s more dangerous to stand, and Je-ha takes a seat as he says it’s not at all dangerous for him.

They sit next to each other as Anna thanks him for everything, from Barcelona to the ramyun to the ice cream to bringing her father to earlier, and even to this very moment.

Je-ha cocks his head and puffs up in agreement that Anna should be grateful. She laughs, and he tells her to keep going. The mood turns solemn again when he tells her that her life will be much different now—she’s now free to travel wherever she’d like and no one will bother her if she wishes to be alone.

“But… you can’t be alone,” he says. Anna will die the moment she’s out of the public eye, and the reason is because Yoo-jin didn’t have to be on guard when it came to Anna. But the tables have turned, and now Anna could destroy Yoo-jin in one fell swoop.

So while Yoo-jin may appear to act nice to her now, she’s waiting for the moment the public loses interest in Anna. “What if I first tell the world that Jang Se-joon is my father?”

“Then you’ll become the child who destroyed her father,” Je-ha replies.

Anna realizes that this perfect storm is what caused her mother’s death. Her mother must’ve also feared ruining her father’s career, but all she wanted even on the day of her death was for her father to come.

She recalls how her father was supposed to visit them that night, but he never showed up, so Mom drank her sorrows away as she was wont to do on the nights he broke his promise. In her drunken ramblings, Mom concluded Se-joon had no intention of leaving with them to the States, and vowed to tell the world.

Anna hated it whenever her mother was drinking because the smell of alcohol, sweat, and tears disgusted her. Whenever Mom came into her room and embraced her afterward, Anna thought to herself that this must be why her father doesn’t come to see them.

That night, Mom had stretched out her arms for a hug, but young Anna stepped back holding the pills behind her back. Mom had apologized for reeking of alcohol, but she’d told her daughter that she was so sad.

Even though her mother had pleaded once more for a hug, Anna didn’t embrace her. Crying now, Anna says she thought those words were simply a drunken rant. “Mom, I was in the wrong!” she cries.

Je-ha wraps an arm around her and pulls her to his chest. He tells her that it’s okay; she was still very young then. Anna shakes her head, saying that she was horrible to her mother, and it’s what happens next that still haunts her.

She had offered her mother the sleeping pills, and Mom had said Anna mustn’t like seeing her cry. Asked if Anna would like to see her mother live for a long time, young Anna had nodded to herself, hoping that her mother would stay asleep without waking up.

Mom had said she’d like to sleep for a long time, and young Anna had told her to take this and sleep. She’d promised to wake up Mom when her father comes by. “When your father comes?” her mother repeated. “Then I must sleep for a long, long time.”

With that, Mom had looked back at Anna one last time before closing the door to her room.

In the present, Anna cries that she killed her mother. “If I’d known that would be the last time I would see her…” she utters before sobbing all over again. Je-ha holds her, softly patting her shoulder comfortingly until she falls asleep.

Representative Park sits down with the police commissioner, whom he says has been enjoying cushy pocket money from him and Se-joon. He’s willing to move on from that topic for now and asks for the documents he requested.

He’s given a full breakdown on Je-ha from his alias to his mercenary days, and how Je-ha is a wanted man. But then Representative Park’s eyes fall upon an interesting fact and bursts laughing: “Iraq? Blackstone?”

COMMENTS

If there ever was a character whose trajectory has turned on its head since his introduction in this show, it would be Representative Park. The once threatening foe could’ve given Yoo-jin a run for her money when both initially showed off a polished public image yet would engage in some shady dealings. The barbed remarks he and Yoo-jin exchanged were an absolute thrill, and it saddens me to see him devolved into a victim of villain decay.

Having two intimidating characters made for an interesting corner in the storyline, especially when Yoo-jin and Representative Park were on parallel narrative tracks. But this week shows that the supposedly cruel and ruthless politician only has the same few tricks up his sleeves by plotting the same sneaky tactic to take down Se-joon. To rub salt in the wound, despite the numerous threats Yoo-jin faces, she’s still making key political alliances. This is all to say that I’m not nervous for Je-ha when it comes to Representative Park finding out about their past mutual connection in Blackstone. I still want to know what the politician will do with this information, but from what we’ve seen of the man’s revenge tactics so far, I would be hard-pressed to keep my hopes up for something clever and well thought-out.

So as much as I’m relieved to see that the show has picked up on parts of Je-ha’s past and his personal vendetta again, it’s a peculiar choice to have Representative Park focus on this plot point over Anna’s exposure to the public. One would think that after Yoo-jin flaunted his loose end (Se-joon’s lover) in the form of her new staffer, the man would think of a scheme of how to use Yoo-jin’s greatest vulnerability (Anna) to his advantage. Choosing this course would be ripe with possibilities and pump in some much-needed villainous acts, but again, I fear we’ll get bogged down with political subplots that pad the hour instead.

But at least there is forward movement in the areas that count, namely the developing relationship between Anna and Je-ha. Anna’s declaration and desire to be treated like an adult is a giant step for her, since so many people in this world were treating her with delicate hands. Given all the people who supposedly cared for her in the past, it makes sense she would be skeptical about anyone who claimed to genuinely want to protect her. So it’s great to see that Je-ha is willing to respond to that call and test her on what it actually takes to be viewed and treated like a grown-up. He won’t take her whining, tells it like it is, and he challenges her to become a formidable enemy against Yoo-jin. He has his heroic moments, but he’s also a figure of encouragement and a pillar of support in Anna’s life. He may beat himself up for having a sense of compassion for others, but if you ask me, that’s where Je-ha truly shines. That, and an adorkable side we can’t help but love.

I read somewhere that chang wook actually fell and then did the adlib. That's why that scene is authentic.

I also noticed the face of Yoo Jin in the car. Disappointment easily visible. Anna having a knife had double meaning. I think Yoo Jin did count Je Ha siding with Anna much more dangerous. The guy saves the father,Brings to hospital and than plans this for the girl.

Yoo Jin just can't kill Anna. And many think of Anna as their trump card. Je Ha is into full blown stae 5 political Tornado.

It sure make sense why it's so awkwardly funny and cute if he really did fall. Also, if that's true, props to, Ji Chang-wook for going with it and keeping an embarrassing moment in the filming.

Ji Chang Wook did this in his musical "The Days". He actually fell off the stage! And then he recovered, climbed back on and made it be an ad-libbed part of his next line in the musical. Despite being an ultimate athlete and star of his celebrity soccer team, JCW is an adorably dorky real person. He has even said that Bong Soo in Healer is quite close to his true personality. That makes him even more lovable!

This drama is unique because it is the first time I am having a second female lead syndrome. I can't wait to see how the two ladies will fall for JH.

He has a hot chemistry with YJ, and a cute chemistry with Anna. Although princess and her puppy-eyed bodyguard sounds romantic to me, I am still rooting for the queen and the wolf couple more. This relationship dynamics is what keeps me hooked to this drama, despite its flaws.

So far they never acknowledged the nature of YJ's interest on JH, is it friendship really, or does she thinks having JH on her side as an advantage in the political war? They've only hinted her romantic involvement by her body language, and thanks to the great acting and chemistry the relayed the feelings very well. In this episode, she clearly had a jealousy attack, not seen from the script, but from the acting. I hope at some point, this subtlety ends she becomes more obvious about her feelings.

I do not think YJ is realising that she is maybe somehow falling for the wolf. I do love her acting and I love the fact that for once the real baddy is a female who knows what she is doing. I do not think she considers her relationship with JH friendship as I assume she does not have any friends. Allies, subordinates, slaves but no friends at this point as they might be a liability. Who knows...maybe she did have a friend in the past and it was Anna's mother who ended up betraying her and sleeping with SJ?
JH for her is a weapon she can use to destroy Representative Park because (at least up until now) his only focus was his vendetta. But now that he is starting to care for Anna his focus could shift which could be a problem for YJ because he would be far more dangerous to her.

She was jealous as a woman and as a colleague. But still she likes the indipendency of JH, even though it annoys her, since he went against her to help the much hated Anna. I hope next week we'll see her saving or helping JH from Mr Park. It's obvious JH isn't powerful enough to fight him and he's also clueless about his new exposure to the enemy. It's JH turn to be saved, hopefully from YJ, so that he can see her in a new light.

The Blackstone angle could be quite interesting. Representative Park knows JH real identity but at the same time this could mean that YJ knows that he did something back then which could cost him his career and freedom. He could blackmail JH and in that case YJ could be the one saving JH...she did say that people that work for her get protection from anything and anyone, remember? In this case JH could end up being indebted to YJ which could be a big problem in his "saving Anna" plan.

That would be great if YJ saves him this time! Now I am hoping that the writer is also thinking the same.

Yes, the blackmail was the first thing I thought about too!
I think it's almost time YJ does something concrete for JH. Apart giving him an identity and the pretty unuseful help of Mirror, she hasn't done anything for him and for his revenge yet. The writer has to step up the plot!

This Drama is so frustrating, it is doing too much and the same time doing nothing at all.

From the over-dramatic music that does not need to be there to the ridiculous Cloud 9 (it is like they combined person of interest with minority report)

Also the ridiculous obsession of Anna by K2 that is so out of character for him, the ramyun scene is so cringe worthy especially the second time.

This drama is basically style over substance, When I am beginning to like the drama then they do something stupid like playing romantic music during a CPR scene.

The drama is fast paced but the plot is moving so slow for a 16 episode drama, as in there is a lot of action and politics but it is going nowhere.(if that makes sense)

To end on a positive I like a lot of the acting and directing, I also appreciate it is a different kind of drama from the usual. and this is my favourite episode

I think the writer should either go full blown action, political thriller or romance instead of threading in the middle because it is obvious she doesn't know how to balance it

As far as I know, the writer is a he.

In the first 6 episodes we watched how YJ and JH relationship develops. Now it is Anna&JH's turn. We'll watch the two connected. Then, the writer must be planning to stir the thee up. Coming up next is the love triangle of the evil, the victim, and the gunman/bodyguard. JH becomes the gunman when he is with YJ, and becomes the bodyguard when he is with Anna. So, what he will become when YJ wants Anna dead, a gunman, or a bodyguard? Will he left his revenge behind for Anna? Will YJ get the man that she needs in her life killed? Can Anna purely love him when she knows that her life long enemy is also after him, or will she want him just to hurt her? The writing is utterly mediocre, especially the ramen bits, that I agree. But, if you squint your eyes to make the flaws invisible, the main story is a very good one. Good enough to keep me hooked. I really wonder what will happen. I know, there is a good chance that I'll be disappointed, but still, since it is eye candy and fast-paced I'll keep watching this drama.

"As far as I know, the writer is a he."

I think that's correct. And it seems he secretly wants to keep all the lady writers locked away under guard, or drugged, so they can't, you know, write, or compete with him, or show him up.

I agree that sooner or later JH will be at a crossroads and he will have to choose between his vendetta and Anna. Kill the one responsible for killing the girl you might have loved in the past or save the new girl you might love now?
But I also expect some new secrets to emerge. Not only what Representative Park did in Iraq but I think there is more behind YJ and Anna's mother's relationship. I am not totally sure she is the culprit for the death of Anna's mother. But maybe I am wrong.

Fudge martial art, win is a win and poor suit get so much dirt (disclaimer, I still like the fight but I think it stupid, should never shown he has gun on the 1st place)
I agee that the shot sound can make the plan goes bad but who the hell didn't used silencer for shady things with enough sponsor this day?
- Love the rooftop scene, finally someone comforted Anna when she is crying, someone finally care.
- The night view is amazing but 1 stroke would makd ended up in hospital, like Titanic scene, get nervous while pose?? you go down...

We don't know if he knew JeHa or had special instruction but I feel like the throwing gun scene is not needed.
I mean it works for showing both of their strength , ego and how Jeha is so strong but it always bug me when they can end things easily amd faster but choose not to... for a drama, they guy didn't need to have gun,
or probably my action movie instinct told me that he gonna shoot Jeha anyway when Jeha run to save Anna.

"...it always bugs me when they can end things easily and faster but choose not to"

This sums up what I feel toward this drama. I cringed during the fight scenes.

It seems like they force viewers to feel the action scenes BY inserting some different musics, so, some scenes were set to show viewers 'hey this is an action drama!' while in fact, they just play way too much with the editing, and forgot the actual plot that could really engage viewers to root for the characters and to look for next episodes.

I suppose they made the "unnecessary" gun thing to give some enphasis to that JSS agent. It's played by a famous action actor, Jo Dong Hyuk, who did a cameo in The K2. That's why his scene was long and his face well shown by the camera :)

By throwing away the gun he acknowledged JH as a worthy opponent, showed him some respect and demonstrated his own dignity. I love him for that but yes, it wasn't necessary, especially if he isn't gonna appear in the drama again. On a side note, I was glad to see that guy after Bad Guys. Hope he gets a bigger role next time.

Can I just love that the kickass body guard turns so adorkable when he like a girl!

I appreciate that, so far, the writer is showing restraint on the relationship front. Je-ha is clearly beginning to have feelings for Anna, but he is not pushing them or her. She is clearly not on the same page yet. I really like that instead of trying to pursue romance Je-ha is instead guiding and supporting her. He's obviously not go to go easier on her when teaching, but he's ready to offer comfort when needed. I like the pace of this relationship so far.

Yoo-Jin is becoming more unstable by the moment. I think that makes her more dangerous. Irrational people can't be predicted. Assemblyman Park certainly did seem to lose some of his threat these last couple of episodes. I hope that's just because we've not seen much of him. If he finds out about Anna early in the next episode and uses that information and his new found knowledge of Je-ha's identity together he could once again become a more credible threat.

I also hope that we find out that Se-joon has some thing truly devious and unexpected up his sleave. What would actually be very surprising and cool is if he and Assemblyman Park were actually in league. All of Park's "attempts" to attack Se-joon could have been designed to fail intentionally. All to throw Yoo-jin off the scent of what's really going down.

@BossyPixie

I completely agree with your assessment of K2 and An-Na’s current relationship development. The writer, thus far, has established an excellent pace. I hope it continues to make sense with the given drama-verse.

Was Yoo-Jin ever really stable? Is it possible for her to become more dangerous? Having said that, a more irrational Yoo-Jin is indeed a very scary prospect. Assemblyman Park SEEMS to have lost some of his threat. However, he is too ruthless and cunning to be dealt with so easily. At this point, I believe that Yoo-Jin does not see K2 as a threat. She is angry that he does not follow her orders, but he has proven too valuable to dispose of. I believe she will first try to separate K2 from An-Na as a means to better control him. When this fails, she might indeed decide to neutralize him. I suspect that Assemblyman Park may be the perfect means to accomplish this. When you are fighting multiple enemies, setting them against each other is an excellent tactic. Especially if you are standing by to eliminate the weakened victor. Of one thing I am certain, Assemblyman Park is still a very dangerous opponent.

I will have to strongly disagree with your next point. Se-Joon would never ally himself with Assemblyman Park. Se-Joon and Assemblyman Park have a long political history. Se-Joon is well aware that Assemblyman Park is even less trustworthy then Yoo-Jin. Yoo-Jin once stated that it was easier to kill one person, than silence a crowd. Assemblyman Park works on the principle it is easier to just kill everyone, after all he owns the police. Do not forget, the man who brought Assemblyman Park K2’s information was the Police Commissioner. Trusting Assemblyman Park would only put An-Na’s life in much greater danger.

Yah, you are probably right. I hadn't really thought that through. I think I was sort of throwing that out there because I hope that there is more to Se-joon. Of course, if he ends up just being a sad, miserable failure as a father, husband, and human being that is also a valid character path. I would just hope that the writer would show him losing everything because of his greed and weaknes. I hope there is no magical redemption arc in the end for him. Although, I would find it acceptable if he were to sacrifice his life to ultimately save Anna.

I don't think they are in love yet. It seems more like je ha fills the role of anna's longing for a companion, a person she could trust instead of all those people who are employed to keep her from going anywhere. And je ha has this inherent quality to be compassionate to people whom he finds innocent, vulnerable and protects them.

So Anna's story does have some similarities to that so I assume he does wish to help her (and maybe not get this one killed).

Until the end of this episode I just hadn't been convinced of K2's romantic attraction to Anna even though the show was headed there. I was about to drop off. But I have to say, the rooftop encounter at the end of the episode made Anna seem more together than I had viewed her up until now. Which is good. Not to mention the flip in who has the upper hand that she made at the press conference. She gets it and I certainly feel for her unlucky position in life with Curella De Vil as her guardian/stepmom. Yesh. But the game has just begun, Mirror.

Plus, K2 has his own vendetta that is starting to take forefront in things revealed. I am holding out for potential in story development. Plus the martial arts fighting is oh yeah!

I think wanting Yoo-Jin and Je-Ha to have some sort of romantic feelings are doing a disservice to her character. She is stand alone strong (albiet, EVIL) woman who is clever and manipulative and is manuvering her way through (and CONTROLLING) a largely man's world, i.e. politics. Why can't she just be without having to be linked to a man? And honestly, do you reaaalllly want Je-Ha to spend his life with Evil Yoo-Jin????
She is absolutely becoming more and more unstable as time goes on as a result of her husband as it is. I think the dynamics of her relationship with her pervy husband is much more interesting. She has been controlling him for so long and yet, still feels surprised and dissappointed that he doesn't stand up for Anna.

Now that he is on Anna's side, he is reconsidering that friendship thing. But still, JH and YJ's realtionship reminds me if synergy. They're just too business-like for me.

Finally some small interactions that make sense bet. Anna and JH. At least they are not pushing us to accept them as a couple and take things slow through these interactions instead.

I see some people don't like where the story heading. I actually like the pace of the story. I am not familiar with the writer of the show so i keep reading comments about Yong pal drama that he was writer that disappointed a lot of people. I hope he doesn't do the same with The K2.

I like how Anna is slowly coming out of her shell and start interacting people around her. Before Je ha, Anna treated people like the ahjuma and J4, evil people that worked for Yoojin, she never considered at how they work hard to take care of her. I like that Je ha pointed out to her that even though they are bad people that keep her, they still work hard to protect her.

Many people don't like the Anna and Je ha pairing but i actually think this pair makes perfect sense. These two people are hurt and lost someone they love. I think they find comfort in each other through their pain. I like how Je ha comforts Anna and genuinely care for her. She never had someone truly care since she lost her mother. Anna is pitiful character. I am rooting for her to grow stronger and take control her life.

I think Yoojin is one scary character. The way she ordered Anna to be shot down in front of many people was just cold blooded. I don't see how Je ha and Yoojin ship will ever work because Je ha clearly don't see her in romantic way. Yoojin need to be in control is scary. Je ha is right, Anna may have the upper hand now but once she loses that hand, Yoojin won't hesitate to kill her.

p.s. I read so many comment regarding Anna social phobia in in previous episodes recaps. If you pay attention in episode 4, when Je ha was being explained at how has social phobia, you could see Anna listening to their conversation. And she had this expression that shows you, she clearly doesn't agree with them. She never showed that she had social phobia, we only heard from others talk about it.

sorry for the long. English is not my first language.

I agree with you.

I can't see anything romantic can come out of Je Ha and Yoo Jin and I don't see why there has to be. It is not because I am going for the same old route of kdrama, shipping the damsel in distress with her prince charming. But because Je Ha was not portrayed as someone who would fall for a person like Yoo Jin.

Yoo Jin is really amazing character but I can't root for someone who thinks that she can kill people in a blink. She has problem in her head. And after witnessing what Yoo Jin is capable of, why would Je Ha fall for her? His girlfriend was killed by a greedy politician and now he fall in love with another politician that wants a girl dead?

I don't know how to express it in words but we can see how Yoo Jin being together with Se Joon, knowing how dirty that man is. That lady loves challenges. So, I would not be surprised if she fall for Je Ha as he looks intriguing to her. There is possibility for that.

But Je Ha himself is the 'typical' (for the lack of word but I don't mean it in a bad way) guy. Raniya, from the short moments I see of her, is fine, nice girl, just like Anna.

*copying my other comment*
So I guess Je Ha and Anna actually more or less are experiencing the same thing?

Je Ha at first thought that he killed Raniya
Anna thought that she killed her mother.

Both were “attacked”, after witnessing the person they love died, that made them feel confused, whether they are guilty or not. (the gun, the pills)

One have PTSD, cannot fire the gun. The other have this social phobia or is afraid of those flashes.

And Anna felt so guilty that she didn’t hug her mother before she died, while Je Ha was oblivious too, joking around just before Raniya died.

There is Je Ha in Anna, Anna in Je Ha.

While for Yoo Jin, I can actually feel she still loves Se Joon. And she hates herself for that. And Je Ha reminds her of the things she can't get from that very person.

Sorry for the horrible English :(

Yoo Jin is a strong character, difficult to define (though I think she's more on the bad side than the "good" side), I get the love she's getting. I like the character too. But I really don't get the hate for Anna.

I see her as a young Yoo Jin. Yoo Jin obviously had a tough time in her youth, and at some point made the decision to get revenge and became who she is today. I think Anna's at the point where she has to make a decision what she does in life; whether she becomes a Yoo Jin 2.0 or takes her own path. It's a character with so much potential for growth, I find her just as interesting as Yoo Jin. So she cries. What were people expecting from someone who's been traumatized more than once? "Get over it"? Then some people need to read about psychology. It takes time, give the girl a break.

As for the whole issue of love in this drama, I personally really like what's going on right now. We're having Yoo Jin who's definitely having some affinity (motherly, romantic or whatever) with JH, and JH definitely having some affinity (more on the caring, brotherly side than the romantic side imo) with Anna, but nothing is being reciprocated, which makes interesting dynamics between the three. Why can't people just appreciate the relationships between characters without having to ship one pairing or another?

I really love that scene where Je Ha told Anna to "grow up" so that she could stand up to Yoo Jin. Anna is indeed a pitiful character, from being hidden early on for being an illegitimate child, to tragically losing her mom and being separated from her dad, her only living relative, and being exiled in a foreign country. She grew up not even having someone close by that she can trust. It's great that she got to meet a decent and compassionate person like Je Ha who genuinely looks after her well being and roots for her to stand up against her more powerful adversary. I think Anna will help Je Ha, who has been jaded by the things that has happened to him in the past, to move on from his regret of not being able to make life better for Rania.

I have very mixed feelings about this show, and in particular the directing.

There are some scenes that are directed really well, then ... some not so much. I'm wondering if he/she is the one who is telling the actors to amp up their reactions to things. I find some of the actors reactions to situations a little off putting and have seen them act more naturally in other projects. For instance in my mind, Yoona is directed to act out the ramon scene and she's smiling and dancing a little and then director yells, "more more! now spin around like you're a crazy person, and again, and again". When Song Yoon Ah is laughing, I imagine he's like "more manically and for a longer period of time please!" When Ji Chang Wook is looking at Anna, the director is all like "show more agony on your face, now get happy, now jump around!"

I just feel like sometimes the characters reactions to things feel so foreign that I can't connect to them. Not always, but certainly enough to pull me out of the moment when I'm watching.

Still enjoying this show somewhat. Here are some disjointed thoughts:
The rooftop scene was cute.

I'm hoping this show will get better. I'm rooting for Ji Chang Wook, and want this to be good for his sake.

I think SYA is amazing. Thanks show for exposing me to her.

I'm glad that Anna doesn't actually have agoraphobia or a social phobia of any kind. This show doesn't really have enough time to tackle that appropriately. Looks like she just has a phobia of flashing lights, which really isn't nearly as debilitating.

Ji Chang Wook is channeling his inner Park Bong Soo with that rooftop fall.. LOL
Re: Je Ha and Anna's relationship
The writer clearly will develop the romance in the next few weeks. After all Yoona is male lead's love interest so they would show us their romance development in the next eps. I actually don't care with whom Je Ha ends up or if he doesn't end up with anyone in the last ep. Strangely I don't even feel attachment or investment to his character even though I'm big Ji Chang Wook fan!

Re: Je Ha and Yoo Jin's relationship
If the attraction is only from Yoo Jin, then it's one-sided. I'm a big proponent of Noona love, but judging by the latest eps it clearly won't happen. I'm still waiting for more Je Ha-Yoo Jin interactions though, because they lit the screen on fire!

I don't understand why yoo jin showed herself before the cameras. I mean, nobody has connected anna to yoo jn, right? Why did she willingly give it up, herself?

Also, I don't understand how a smart person like yoo jin would think shooting someone in broad day light, before the public holding cameras is a good idea? If anything, that would have been disastrous, because if police start looking into her murder, their connection might have been digged up and also her hold over se joon would have become non-existent. She really should be thankful to je ha.

I am slightly concerned for je ha because now he has betrayed yoo jin (even though she doesn't know that he was the one who made the subway guy post the address, she will eventually find out). I have no idea how she will react to his betrayal.

same here, about yoo-jin exposing her connection to anna. why even show up there, when she's as much a public figure as her husband?

but maybe she knew that the connection would come to light anyway. people were already looking into the house's address and who owned it, and probably it would have been under yoo-jin's name or under something that would tie it to her. maybe she wanted to take the situation into her control by pretending that she's taken care of anna all these years. probably will claim that her late movie star mother was a friend or something.

i think yoo-jin would tread very carefully around je-ha. she knows she can't control him, and he's valuable to her. he's already saved her from losing her scholarship foundation, as well as saving her from the car crash. completely of his own volition (particularly the former). so in a way, he's proven his "loyalty" to her. she knows he's not 100 percent approving of her ways, yet he's chosen to protect her, as well as anna.

Yes, I agree. YJ is realising that by publicly linking herself to Anna she still has some sort of control over her. She will play the guardian so everything that comes out of this public introduction (she will probably be invited by the fashion designer to some events?) will go through YJ instead of being controlled by Anna herself. I guess this was the best case scenario for her.
JH saved YJ of his own will. I do not think anyone did that for her before so she is keeping him there and allowing him to do whatever he wants because she does not want to loose the only person that did something for her without being paid to do it. I do not know if she is falling for him or not but I guess he is different and she is drawn to him because of that. Plus they have the same enemy, so he is a weapon of sorts for her. As long as JY does not touch Anna he will be loyal but if she decides to kill or hurt her he will probably turn on YJ in the blink of an eye.

I myself dont know but I am just guessing. However I liked those scenes where Anna's encounter with Press and Yoo jin juxta posed with Jae ha and the hit man's fighting scenes. Like in the teaser, he is going all out to protect her.

Also please give us explanation why did squad leader and Kim Je Ha fight? For what reason? We only see them look at each other face to face then they fight without clear reason as to why..

Because Jeha is stopping him and his team from killing Anna and preventing from doing what they are ordered to do.

Jeha did wipe away his men and the squad leader wanted to fight him man-man and in fairness.

yeah . . . probably for dramatic tension and ego,

so also to make jeha look better . . .

This ep was so, so slow. And it seems Yoo Jin is quickly devolving into typical villain posturing and screaming. I noticed her screen time has decreased a lot as well, and her scenes with Jeha are also being cut abruptly. The love line is also heading towards a typical route. That montage of love could not have been more obvious. Anyways, theres no point further criticizing a show thats deviating from what I would have liked. Ill respectfully bow out and maybe read recaps.

Final words to Jeha: "How long are you going to play pick-up after a little girl?"- Yoo Jin ep8

I also don't see any chemistry at all. If there should be, it seems so forced.
I hate it when a drama forces to give the viewers a romantic scene as if it is very crucial to the drama's plot development (I'm looking at you CPR scene!!!) when you could just stick to the main genre and just give hints of romance when we're near the end.

0

Required fields are marked *

Hmm, good point about forced romantic scenes but I think the CPR scene was more than just that.

It looks like the drama really wants the audience to note its connection to the Snow White story - so I viewed the CPR scene as more of the drama telling us with neon lights that Anna is Snow White, strawberries are the poisoned apple, and she needed love's first kiss to wake her up aka. Jeha's resuscitation (if you can even call it that).

But more than that, I think the CPR scene showed us what role Jeha truly serves, at least when it comes to connecting the drama to the fairytale. In my opinion, Jeha is not at all the huntsman in the story, but the prince.

It feels as if he SHOULD be the huntsman since YooJin once called him a hunting dog, but I have yet to see evidence in the drama that shows him as taking on that role.

He told YooJin that their relationship is not of master-slave, but friend to friend. So he's not her lackey or hired assassin by any means - and YooJin herself admitted that he's not the type to listen to her or wait for her commands before acting.

Up until this point, he's shown himself loyal to no one in particular as he's been protecting everyone so far - YooJin, SeJoon, Anna - White Knight syndrome anyone?

So while the CPR scene was pretty heavy handed with the romantic feels especially with the OST in the background, the way Jeha was frantic in fear for Anna's life, the way she was lying down looking really pretty, and the CPR "kiss" (again, if we can even call it CPR or a kiss for that matter)... I think it was more than just a bone for those waiting for the romance to develop.

Rather, that scene sets us up with the expectation of Jeha becoming the white knight/prince figure in Anna's life. Which sounds really cliché, except he's already started to be that especially in the past 2 episodes.

I mentioned earlier that he hasn't shown loyalty to one person so far, but Episode 8 makes it very clear that he is on Anna's side. He tells her that despite his promise to SeJoon, he'll protect her for sake and not because of her dad. And should she choose to let go of his protection, he'll stop doing that if that's what she wants. He also said he'll protect her from everyone, even YooJin. That sounds like white knight-princely material to me.

As for Anna and Jeha's romantic relationship right now... I have to agree that there isn't much of anything yet. But I think they now have the foundation to start a believable one.

The thing is:

1-Yoo Jin and her husband are ambiguous figures, and it's the purpose of the drama right now to have people go wishy-washy one them (is she just a victim, trying to get revenge? Or is she just a greedy, OCD villain? Is he really a caring dad? Or is he just a selfish womanizer?). I don't see Yoo Jin as reverting to a typical antagonist. She's losing it because she's losing control over things (which is totally coherent, because her secretary warned us episode 1 or 2 that she was not mentally stable), I just think they're adding layers to her, telling you "you thought she was just a victim, well guess what, she's actually pretty evil, but it could all be due to mental illness, so what are you going to think about her now?"

2-Yoo Jin's screen time decreased because the female lead is Anna, and because Anna's character is more desperate need of development (and growth) than hers. It was to be expected, and it's also pretty fair (considering Anna had little screen time in the beginning of the show).

3-There's no love yet, ANYWHERE. Yoo Jin cares about JH, JH cares about Anna, and that's about it. That JH would care about Anna is a given, because, whether some people like it or not, she's the ultimate victim of the story, and JH has a tendency to go all out for the victims, as we've seen many times. So yeah, it was expected, it's the typical route, but it's also coherent and realistic.

I like where the show's going and episode 8 was my favorite so far, but hey, we're all different so I get that we can't all see things the same way.

All 3 are co-leads. As for YJ, ever since the scene in the church she has been scheming/screaming/showing manic expressions. There's very little introspection, compared to her earlier scenes. Shes basically just reacting and breaking down. Might be intended, but idc now.
Also, the way JH looks at Anna is no way mere compassion. It is too intense, his gaze looks like it could move mountains for her. His expression when YJ told him the line I earlier quoted was very telling, like he was caught. As for Anna, whenever she looks at JH they show that cpr scene, which shows she is affected aswell. Add to that the montage and ost it just became heavy handed. Also, Im not a fan of the savior-pure damsel trope, though it worked in Yongpal cuz the heroine was a grown woman. Different folks, different strokes.

So, at the risk of everybody disagreeing with me I'm just going to throw this out there... everybody is saying that Yoo Jin is such a villain and what not but if you think about it she's also kind of a victim. I mean her husband cheated on her and decided to play happy family behind her back, he apparently was even considering leaving her for the new family... and sure she's mean to Anna but really if your husband cheated on you and had a kid, would you feel inclined to treat that kid well!?
Also she clearly loves the husband otherwise she wouldn't be so hurt whenever he touches her or talks to Anna.... if anything it's the coward husband who is the villain, he hides his real intentions by saying that he can't see Anna to protect her, but I feel that if he really wanted to be with Anna he could just go get her and escape, the whole once I have power I'll be able to protect her is lies!!! It's not like Yoo Jin will disappear once he becomes president(?)....
that's not to say Yoo Jin isn't evil, she probably is but it feels more like she lashes out to protect herself... just saying

Obviously, without even knowing the whole story of Yoo Jin with her family and with her husband, we know she's been a victim. I don't think it's something people can deny.

The question is not whether she's been a victim or not. The question is, does that justify her actions? I don't think so. You've suffered a great deal, sure. You want revenge, alright. But no reason to mess up with innocent people's lives. And I think that's where she's going to clash with JH (and maybe, if the character has enough growth, with Anna too). Because for Yoo Jin, the end justify the means, and JH cares too much about the bystanders for that.

Guys can someone explain to me if this drama is going to have a love line between Je-Ha and Anna? I've only been vaguely following recaps and it doesn't look like that at all. Anna barely looks like she's in it compared the other woman. I looked at the character relationship map but it is in Korean so I can't read it and there's arrows going both ways for JH and Anna and JH and YJ. I'm a little lost on who the love interest is, or if there even will be one.

0

Required fields are marked *

I don't speak Korean so the character relationship chart doesn't say anything to me either, but my understanding of the show is that the "official" OTP is supposed to be JH-Anna, but the drama is primarily about the complicated dynamics between the three characters.

I don't think there's meant to be a major love story in the show. I think it's supposed to be a subtle element of the plot, that moves things forward. Yoo Jin, taking a liking to JH, might protect him or hate more on Anna. She might even change for better, who knows. Anna, on the contrary, needs to change first and grow up to experience romantic feelings for JH, which is why I don't think anything's going on between the two of them right now.

It's highly possible that nothing much happens romantically until the last episode, and the love story starts off with an open ending. Not sure I would dislike that. I'd rather everything stays coherent, than they try to rush many romantic scenes in.

1. i wonder if the squad leader will have a bigger role in upcoming episodes? and was there any significance to him chucking away his gun before fighting je-ha? was he secretly rooting for je-ha to protect anna?

i probably would have chalked it up to theatrics if the actor weren't a fairly well known one. i don't remember exactly what i've seen him in, but i recognize him that's for sure. i feel like they wouldn't have used this particular actor if he was only going to have that one fight scene with je-ha.

2. yoo-jin showing up at the scene. why? the only reason i can come up with is that the house address was exposed, and her connection to it would have come to light anyway, and her showing up was her way of attempting to take control of the situation, however which way it ended up.

3. it'll be interesting to see je-ha grapple with his "loyalties" to both yoo-jin and anna. he's saved both of them more than once; he definitely went above and beyond to save yoo-jin at the funeral. he didn't have to do anything then; if he hated her, he would have let her suffer a defeat.

but to me it's clear that he feels a connection to both. however, he'll protect over yoo-jin, FROM yoo-jin, because anna is the weaker one. he has a weakness for the vulnerable. he saw yoo-jin's vulnerability at her aunt's funeral and coached her to appear strong before her enemies. he was teaching her how to be strong. he's doing the same with anna. it's going to be intensely interesting to see what he's going to do with the ultimate face-off between these two occurs.

4. representative park doesn't know about anna... so how could he use anna against se-joon? he's tried to take se-joon down by planting women against him, but that's failed twice. i'm sure if he had any inkling about anna, he would dig into it.

5. just curious, does yoo-jin's family truly want her and se-joon to win the presidency? it appears they've been helping to fund the campaign, but wouldn't a more powerful yoo-jin be very bad for them? they're clearly wary of her wrath, though they think that she won't retaliate against them for the present because of their funding. but they are scared of a situation where yoo-jin enters the blue house and they have no ammo against her.

i think yoo-jin's ultimate goal is gaining control of her father's company. that's probably the one thing she wants most above all, and that's what she is using se-joon for. he's already lost his worth to her as her husband, but he's still useful to her in that she can gain what she sees as rightfully hers. though how winning the presidency will help her get control of JB group, i'm not sure.

OH, and something else i always meant to ask/write, but kept forgetting about...

the announcer who interviewed yoo-jin in the first episode. i wondered if she could possibly be je-ha's mother. yoo-jin mentioned that everyone had a sore spot. for her, it was her family. for the announcer, it was her son. and the expression on the announcer's face—maybe it was shock that yoo-jin knew what she knew? a secret son?

it doesn't seem like the show is going that way, but i did wonder at the time.

I also had that thought about the announcer being Je-ha's mom, but discarded it as there seemed to be no follow up. Since there has been zero mention of his family, I keep thinking that there could be some twist there waiting to be revealed.

1: The actor was in Bad Guys, if you have watched Bad Guys, so you must know him. His name is Jo Dong Hyuk. I hope he did not appeared in this episode only because it will be a bit useless if someone as good as him in fighting scene is just a cameo, considering this is action drama. We need more actors who is good in action scene.
I pretty sure he did not want to hurt Jae Ha by shooting him, and fighting without any gun was a good way to turn JH's attention for a while. Maybe. Is the squad leader is more obliged with Yoo Jin's command than CEO Gook? I wonder.

4 : By now he already knew about Jae Ha, so in a short time he will know about Anna's existence, because Jae Ha is protecting Anna. I have a feeling Yoo Jin's stepmom will somehow digging something about Anna. Because she knew Yoo Jin will not simply taking care someone's child, so it must crossed her mind to dig into it.

5: I don't know, I cannot understand their fights, but I feel they want her and Se Joon to win presidency because it means more power for them too, that's why they funding him. In a current situation, it is more on give and take, and neither of them willing for another one to have more power.

I remember Chief Nurse in Yong Pal once told Tae Hyun, not to involve in Yeo Jin's fights because " they have their own ways to fight", it means common people will not understand it.

Yoo-jin is born to be overambitious and greedy, but the husband can't act like it's all her doing. If Anna's memory fragments in this episode are anything to go by, Jang Je-soon was and is still a sleazy manipulative bastard who can't be trust by any one. Yoo-jin as a villainous scorned woman is a delight, but she could dial it back a little. Threatening to murder Anna at any possibility is a bit deranged and I hate to see her build her own downfall. I want her and Gap Soon to fight head to head to the bitter end.
Another thing that bugs me is Anna's over dramatic crying and aeygo, if it wasn't for JCW I'd be ff the hell out of those scenes. It's cringe worthy at best. Jeha is just setting himself for another catastrophe infatuation with a damsel in distress. And there are two caring(ok just 1) women who can comfort Anna and help her psychological, why do they have to make an ex soldier with PTSD be that person. Thanks but no thanks writer.

Even in a drama it's way too unrealistic. and that subway worker bad acting didn't help, the way he exclaimed how she must be a goddess omg *rolls eyes*From the beginning the whole Barcelona angel was nonsense because i honestly can't buy it.
Before the drama starts, i had expect chemistry between the otp but so far idk i can't feel it. I'm just annoyed at Anna character overall. Like some said, she behaves like a child who needs help all the time. Jeha said sth that i completely agreed with 'Stop acting like a whiny crying baby!' Idk, despite her situation and history, i can't relate to how and why K2 falls for her. for now i feel like he just feels pity for her and wanting to protect her; because of the promise and that hero complex of his.

Regarding Anna's acting, it seems that we are cheer leading mediocracy and over the top acting, only because she is an idol. Other actresses, such as the female lead in Spy, even with less experience have been more believable, yet never got a pass here. What would have been if they actually cast another idol such as Nana instead. You would have had the visuals, plus the acting chops to face off convincingly against Yoojin.

My thoughts on the Stop-Go game (Freeze and Go?)...

I don't know why Jeha thought of that game all of a sudden, but perhaps it was his way of testing to see how well she trusts him.

If that's the case, then for sure Anna trusts Jeha. In fact, she trusts him so much, there's almost an eagerness to it. In all fairness though, Jeha is probably the only person in her life who's the most genuine about wanting what's best for her. I think she feels that, which is why on their rooftop convo later on, she thanked him for everything he's done for her. Anna also opened up to him about her most traumatic memory, and you don't get vulnerable like that to anyone unless you trust them completely.

So I'm not surprised at all that she followed that Stop-Go game without really questioning it.

I have a feeling though, that the Stop-Go game will come back later on in the drama, probably during some significant moment.

I'm thinking maybe Jeha will invoke Stop-Go, and Anna won't do it for once... perhaps because he betrays her trust or she believes he betrays her?

Or maybe Anna will use it on Jeha. Or maybe during a kiss scene?

Usually cutesy stuff in dramas are there for a reason.

I think that you are right about Anna trusting Je-ha at least to some degree. I think part of why she went along with the game is because she is trying to figure him out. I know people keep trying to make a romantic connection to Anna's flash backs of the CPR scene. I think it's more that she is trying to figure out why Je-ha bothered to save her. When he saves her, yet again, from the snipers I think that is when her trust is fully cemented. Which is why she could then share her tram with him.

The freeze-go game came in handy when he needed to let her know when to leave the house while he was getting rid of the snipers. Maybe that was all the use of the game or we will see it again later. Maybe she will use it to stop him/save him somehow. Would be nice to see.

Yoona posted a pic on instagram of her sitting in training gear in the JSS gym so maybe she will start kick some ass...literally.

While they were initially playing that game, I had assumed the Je-ha was training Anna to help protect her. I figured he made it into a game to make it easier on Anna. It was amusing that Je-ha wouldn't comply when Anna tried it on him, and I agree that it would be nice to see a situation where Anna used it to help Je-ha.

Ugh, I don't know how to feel about the romance. Je Ha's so freaking patronizing and the fact that he wants her to acknowledge their "protection" when they're imprisoning her is really gross. Does he not understand he's her jailer?

I'm basically here to watch Anna burn everything to the ground.

Yes, he is part of the bad guys as he is working for JSS but it is not all black and white. Several shades of grey here like the father who is a bastard but also loves his daughter. The chief that is in charge of following and keeping SJ in check but also promised him to keep Anna safe from YJ.

Yeah but he can't demand her to be grateful for imprisoning her.

I don't think he was demanding her to be grateful, just for her to acknowledge that there are still people who care and worry about her, even though she is being held against her will.

And later on the roof, Jeha tells her the only reason she's alive in the first place is because she hasn't been a threat to YooJin until now. So yes, her imprisonment is terrible, but it's a whole lot better than being dead.

Interestingly enough too... Jeha was the one who orchestrated a way for Anna to have more freedom, so she wasn't just a prisoner in that house. I don't see him as her jailer, I think YooJin and SeJoon are Anna's jailers. I see Jeha as her ally and protector.

I agree on this one! JH just started there and to be honest when he agreed to be part of JSS he did not know Anna was not the psycho they told her she was. He saw her twice before...first in Barcelona running away from police and then at the house when she only screamed at him to shoot YJ. Not the best first impression...
After watching her through the cameras and seeing her on the roof etc he realised that she is not crazy and with all the backstory bits he got from all the people involved he decided to help her and give her a chance to fight back. As YJ was saying in the car Anna is now holding a knife in her hand. She has a bit of power that could cause YJ downfall. Exposing herself to the world as the daughter of SJ would just hurt him (although in my opinion he would deserve that) but Anna wants revenge on YJ so she needs to find a way to do that without destroying her father in the process.

Is Healer better than this drama? What do you think?

Healer is different. But it also had good actors in every role...from supporting ones to the main cast. K2 could still improve and get better episodes but Healer had nearly 20 perfect episodes.

YES

Healer is a hundred times better than this drama in my opinion. It has a way more logical and coherent plot, better acting, editing and directing. Not as many action scenes thrown in, cos it only featured those that were integral to the plot and the romance was genuinely believable and heartfelt. In my opinion, this drama is a downgrade from Healer (though fans of K2 will probably shoot me).

Two things K2 has in abundance are fight scenes and choral music.

Yes, Healer is waaaay better!

The acting, music (gave me so much feels!!!), directing, plot...everything was like 100% awesome!

The only thing Healer didn't have was Ji Chang Wook's chocolate, six pack abs. Lol. *pervy noona smile

Can't say definitely till K2 completes its run as it might get better. K2 is more exciting to watch but the writing isn't tight right now. Healer is one of those that leaves a lasting good impression but is less gripping. It took me a few attempts to start watching and I know people who just couldn't watch it. The writing was tighter but the way the story was told with the back stories felt boring at times. I hated all thr flashbacks although they were central to the story.

But the love story was deliciously good. And yes, the cast was awesome too.

@ Michi

Yes, in terms of character development and development of the relationships and generally in the writing which hung together very nicely, Healer is better.

Minor, superficial similarities between Healer and The K2 peak out from time to time, like how Je Ha got himself up to the roof (reminiscent of Healer's parkour), like the 'sweet' time they have on the roof together or his stammering/less-cool-moments (like Park Bong Soo). Even the decision to deliberately expose Anna to the public eye in order to protect her and gain her some freedom, is what Moon Ho did for Young Shin in Healer so that she would not be killed off too easily. :)

Where The K2 is stronger is in the choreography and cinematography of the action scenes. They may be rather too long drawn out, but what they show us is pretty well done.

@gummimochi, is there a typo in the recap? Here:
She’d promised to wake up Mom when her father comes by. “When your father comes?” her mother repeated. “Then I must live for a long, long time.”

Isn't it supposed to be - "Then I must sleep for a long, long time."

Yes I noticed that he's on non-stop from shift to shift without rest and managing to think up plans and fight in between! Should call him Super K2.

Kudos to the prop people! I thought it was fitting that Yoo jin, a woman who will stop at nothing to be first lady, has a biography of America's first lady on her desk. The camera slow panned over it but I guess a decision was made to blur it, but if you look closely, you can make out the title and, of course the outline of Michelle Obama. But now that I think about it, didn't S. Korea have a female president? Yoo jin is thinking too small. She should drop the "good cook sweet homemaker act and go for it!

Yoo-jin is freaking awesome! I know she's evil, but she is the only thing that is keeping me interested this drama, besides the naked fight scene in episode 8. Lol. The actress playing Yoo-jin has a charisma that is outshining everyone. I really want to know her backstory.

Okay, Anna needs to stop crying and sniveling. I can't stand it really. All she does is whine and cry uncontrollably. They said she's sick, like mentally ill? So say what it is. Yes, what happened to her is terrible, but she needs to woman up. It's episode 8 and she's still weak.

I also don't see the chemistry between Anna and Jeha. He just seems to pity and empathize with her but that shouldn't be enough to detract him from his revenge.

And yes, Jeha has more chemistry with Yoojin. Maybe not in the romantic sense, but they are making something sizzle. I thought for a moment that Yoojin could be Jeha's mom, like he's an illegitimate child she hit away? But that's reaching a bit. LOL. Who know? Kdrama is rife with birth secrets.

Has anyone else noticed that Anna's agoraphobia just "disappeared" and she started making speeches to large crowds? -_-

I do not think she has agoraphobia. I think that was one of the made up lies so that people would not go near her. She was raised with nuns so she is probably used to small groups only...and mostly known people but that does not mean she has a phobia.

An-Na does have an issue with bright lights (camera flashes) that we now know is from her mother's death. Almost immediately after discovering her mother's dead body, the murder shined a very bright tactical flashlight in her eyes. Tactical flashlights are specially designed to be extra bright to blind and disorient for a minute or so. They are standard issue to most police officers. An-Na's seemingly strange behavior during a crowded, bright light situation could easily be mistaken for agoraphobia. Since the additional events of that evening are recently recovered memories, An-Na has probably not even realized the link.

Does anybody notice, in the news office when a journalist said that other journalist stole his news, the photo in his phone (assumed he open an online site) was JH and Anna. But that photo actually haven't taken yet, because the next scene is the subway guy take his scooter to follow them and take the picture.

You're right but the timelines are probably not strictly sequential in the drama. The stories are all unfolding at different blocks of time within the drama but not necessarily told in sequence. But it probably affects those who watch out for such details.
