Being the center of attention isn’t always easy, but Anna will need to stay in the spotlight in order to face her enemies head-on. Publicity acts like a double-edged sword this hour because while she isn’t the only one placed under the investigative microscope, the public exposure can invite other unforeseen consequences. The limelight will wait for no one, least of all the Barcelona Angel.
EPISODE 12 RECAP
Se-joon joins the Democratic Party by Representative Park per his deal with Yoo-jin. It’s all smiles for the cameras but Representative Park grits out that this fight between them isn’t over until one of them is dead.
Their secretaries exchange pointed barbs, one of which flies at Chief Joo, who acknowledges that it’s all due to Representative Park that he left the military long ago.
Sung-won upholds his promise by taking Anna to her mother’s gravesite, though their visit is accompanied by the press. The reporters wonder why Yoo-jin would’ve left her allegedly close friend’s grave to be neglected over the years.
Anna’s eyes well up in tears before her mother’s tombstone, and she places her hands over the mound. “Mom…” she softly cries. She tearfully apologizes that it took so long for her to get here, and adds that Mom shouldn’t wait up for her father because he won’t come. She asks her mother to sleep peacefully without any pills now.
Her choice of words leave the reporters puzzled, so Sung-won bends down and says her mother and father are now reunited in heaven. He steps away to get a call from his informant: the TV host who has conducted Yoo-jin’s interviews.
She has another tidbit on Anna’s mother that we don’t get to hear but Sung-won is appreciative.
Master Song is still upset that he was left out of the classified details on the attack against Representative Park. But he does know how Sung-won ended up inheriting JB Group in spite of Yoo-jin having much of the subsidiaries’ support. Yoo-jin was an excellent student but had poor taste in men, so when a playboy like Se-joon courted her, she naturally fell for him.
Not only did the late chairman oppose the union, JB Group had fallen on tough financial times. So the late chairman lined up a bunch of chaebols for Yoo-jin to marry instead, but she refused to marry any of them. Conversely, Sung-won readily married his father’s choice of wife, so it’s all thanks to his in-laws that he became the JB Group chairman, which is why he’s acts so subservient to his father-in-law.
But that doesn’t make Sung-won any less of a threat—in fact, he’s even more dangerous because no one could ever tell what he was truly thinking. Master Song has been part of JB Group even before JSS was even created, which is why he knows so much.
Sung-won and Anna pay a visit to an inmate in prison who recognizes her. Oh, is he the shadow from her mother’s room? He is, and he wonders if Anna doesn’t recognize him because he was the one who shone a flashlight in her face. Ah, that would explain the trigger to her panic attacks.
Anna seems to remember now, and the man launches into his story: He’d snuck in to rob another rich person’s house, only to find it was the movie star Um Hye-rin’s home. He hid in a corner when he heard a noise, thinking it was another burglar.
But that wasn’t the case, and the man stops himself, amusingly worried that the next bit could traumatize Anna. She swallows her fear and tells him to continue, so he does: someone had smothered Anna’s mother and stuck a syringe into her neck.
Anna realizes that her memory hadn’t failed her, and the man confirms that he saw the face of the true culprit. He teases that he probably remembers, but he won’t give that information up for free.
Sung-won chuckles, and his lawyer states it is possible to reduce the man’s prison sentence by a few years. Now they have the man’s attention, and he doesn’t need a photo to remember: “It was the ajumma next to you on TV. That woman.”
Anna’s memory pulls up an image of Yoo-jin smothering her mother. Sung-won looks smug and agrees to deal with anyone who might harm the inmate.
Anna is irritated that they can’t report Yoo-jin to the police now since that would jeopardize her father’s presidential campaign. That might not matter much to Anna, but Sung-won explains that her father needs to become president for her to be free. Yoo-jin should be punished for her crimes, but they need to make her father look like an innocent victim in all this.
All they need is a few days, but she mustn’t breathe a word of this to Je-ha because it could reach Yoo-jin’s ears. He sighs at Anna’s naivete that Je-ha wouldn’t betray her, saying that Je-ha is working for Yoo-jin and may not have a choice.
Speaking of whom, Je-ha gets worried when he’s unable to reach Anna. He’s directed to the salon where Anna is, in fact, getting ready for the fashion show tonight. He asks why she sent Mi-ran away since that means she didn’t have a bodyguard, but he tamps down his frustration.
The salon owner notes how they don’t seem to share a typical bodyguard-client relationship, and Je-ha’s eyes go wide when Anna introduces him as her boyfriend. He’s shoved into the chair, as a hint of doubt crosses Anna’s face.
They show up to the fashion show looking sharp, though Je-ha’s expression hardens when Sung-won confirms that Anna has taken the medication he gave her earlier. They swing by to see the designer, who expresses how honored he is to feature Anna before the other well-known designer, Jean-Paul Lafelt, looking for his Barcelona Angel.
While she’s getting ready, she asks Sung-won for more medication to calm her nerves. Sung-won obliges, though Je-ha swipes the bottle and pulls Anna aside to remind her that this would be her third dosage today.
He fears she might overdose or grow dependent on them, but Anna wants to make sure she does a good job today to honor her mother. She asks him to let her today and softly asks for the pills.
Anna is pulled away just then, so Je-ha confronts Sung-won about the real reason why he’s feeding Anna medication and having her stand onstage. Sung-won plays dumb and says Anna is paying tribute to her mother.
A celebrity is both easily loved and easily forgotten, so they need to stir the public’s curiosity about why Anna’s mother died. “That’s what Anna and I want,” he finishes.
Je-ha softens when he’s delivered a water bottle with a note from Anna. He takes a gulp and flashes the bottle to her when she steps out of the tent in her wardrobe. He looks on as Anna speaks to the crowd, thanking everyone for coming out in remembrance of her mother.
As the crowd applauds, Anna vows to her mother to unearth the truth behind her wrongful death. Je-ha is there when she steps off, and he praises her.
The show begins, and prior to her turn, Je-ha sees Anna ask for more pills. Even Mi-ran is concerned, but Anna steps on the catwalk albeit with a shaky gait.
She keeps walking past the bright lights, her walk wavering with each step. Sung-won nods to a staffer who then signals a light operator to shine a beam in Anna’s face. As she starts to fall, Je-ha runs toward her and whips her around away from the beam.
Yoo-jin reads about the fashion show the next morning and smiles when she zooms in on the photo to see Je-ha. Secretary Kim enters her office and is reluctant to read aloud an online post claiming that Anna is Yoo-jin and the late Director Go’s daughter.
She scoffs at the absurd story, but there’s more to it: Apparently, Um Hye-rin married the director without knowing this and was tasked to raised Anna. However once Um Hye-rin found out, she returned to Korea to blackmail Yoo-jin for money, and Yoo-jin later killed her for fear the world may find out.
Secretary Kim stops herself again, but Yoo-jin instructs her to continue. This story believes that Yoo-jin and Se-joon’s marriage is just for show, and now Anna is in Sung-won’s hands. Aha, this must be the tale Sung-won has been planning to release, though Yoo-jin fumes at how this story portrays Se-joon as an innocent.
Sung-won readily admits to being responsible for spreading such a wild tale when Anna asks him about it. He defends the idea that the press eats up outlandish stories, but Anna still doesn’t get how sullying her mother’s name will come back to hurt Yoo-jin.
To that, Sung-won patronizes Anna for her naivete, saying this will start an investigation against Yoo-jin, and that’s when they’ll use their hidden card.
All this talk about the criminal justice process flies over her head, and Sung-won tells Anna to trust him—he would never frame Anna’s mother for anything, and the truth will come to light once the investigation begins. He makes sure that Anna hasn’t said anything to Je-ha, and adds they’ll go to the police station today.
The current events show discusses this rumor on their latest broadcast. The assemblyman pokes holes in the story’s veracity, like how Anna was born before Yoo-jin and Se-joon were married, and a simple DNA test would prove whether the women are mother and daughter.
He finds the very idea that Yoo-jin would kill Um Hye-rin because of blackmail absurd. He empathizes with Anna’s desire to get to the bottom of her mother’s mysterious death, and calls for the police to reopen the case. He even calls upon Yoo-jin to undergo questioning, which has Yoo-jin wonder if the assemblyman is still on their side.
Sung-won and Anna are bombarded by the press when they arrive at the police station. He angrily hollers that he’ll take legal action against those responsible for the offensive post, only to break into a smile once they’re past the mob.
They sit down with the police commissioner, and Sung-won asks that he take special measures with the case of Anna’s mother. This may all start like a classic case of defamation, but a few key testifiers could open up a few more cases.
Afterward, the police commissioner relays to Representative Park that he thinks Sung-won is after Yoo-jin. The politician laughs that of course they need to reopen the case, amused that Yoo-jin and Sung-won are having it out without him having to lift a finger.
The gears are surely in motion, as we see a reporter seek out the prosecutor for the inside scoop on Yoo-jin and the chances of reopening the case. Sung-won is pleased to see an article about it pop up not long afterward.
Yoo-jin, meanwhile, takes part in her volunteer event as scheduled. A swarm of reporters circle around her asking for a statement, and she can feel her head throbbing before she faints.
She’s taken to the hospital, and Sung-won laughs at his noona’s quick thinking of being hospitalized. Little does he know that it was actual fainting spell, and though CEO Gook outwardly says it’s likely all part of a well-thought-out plan, he too appears worried.
The entertainment news reporter finds the entire situation surrounding the online post odd. There’s talk that there’s a witness to Um Hye-rin’s murder, and the netizens scorn Yoo-jin while showing Se-joon pity. He worries that at this rate, Anna’s name could be dragged into the mess.
Over at the house, Se-joon decides to head upstairs to see his daughter when Anna refuses to see him. He knocks on her door, but she sends him away.
Master Song is initially barred entry when he tries to see Yoo-jin at the hospital. But she hears the noise and lets him in, and he hands her a juice she used to enjoy. She sends everyone out so they can speak alone, and it’s apparent they share a longtime amicable relationship.
He laughs when she suggests that he speak in banmal, but then he solemnly asks Yoo-jin to leave Anna alone. She tenses when he confirms that’s why he came here, and gets more upset at his hunting analogy of letting the baby animal live even if the mother is killed.
Master Song continues to try her patience when he mentions how her late father would’ve opposed her decision to do this and that he’s not sure he might do if Yoo-jin keeps this up. He isn’t fazed when she throws the bottle of juice to the floor and calmly leaves.
Se-joon heads to the JB Group headquarters where Sung-won, his mother, and his father-in-law are popping the figurative champagne over how Se-joon is free to join their ranks thanks to the online post.
Je-ha checks in on Anna, wondering why she didn’t see her father. He moves on to remark on the online post, explaining how Yoo-jin isn’t someone who would do her own dirty work. Furthermore, if there had been a witness, she would’ve already dealt with them.
Anna disagrees that it isn’t the case this time, and then ventures, “Are you on my side… or Choi Yoo-jin’s side?” He answers that he’s on her side, but she counters that he’s still part of JSS whereas Mi-ran and Sung-gyu have already made the jump to JB Group.
She asks what he and Yoo-jin are up to, and he explains that he hasn’t told her because nothing good will come from this knowledge. He finishes the thought in his head, “Because… it involves killing someone.”
CEO Gook has dinner with the police commissioner, who’s still bitter about being deceived the night Representative Park was cornered. A drink is all it takes to smooth things over, and CEO Gook mutters that despite all the commotion, Se-joon has a good shot at becoming president.
Laughing, he tells the police commissioner that they’ll just play both sides and reap the rewards. So the police commissioner can still keep collecting information from Representative Park, and they toast to that.
Still troubled, Je-ha seeks out Yoo-jin to find out the truth. He wouldn’t be surprised if she actually killed Anna’s mother, since it’s likely not the only life she’s taken. “Why do you want to know that?” Yoo-jin returns.
“Because of Anna,” Je-ha replies. Anna believes Yoo-jin was the murderer, but he isn’t sure if he should stop her from doing anything about it. Yoo-jin says to let Anna do whatever she likes, an answer he accepts. Still, he would love to know the answer to this question to satiate his curiosity: “Did you… kill Um Hye-rin?”
Yoo-jin pauses before agreeing to tell him and only him: “I… didn’t kill Um Hye-rin. I certainly didn’t order anyone to kill her, either.”
He asks why she let Se-joon and Anna think that she did then, and she answers, “Because that way, Se-joon would truly believe I was capable of killing Anna. Because that way, Se-joon wouldn’t be able to leave my side that night or any night afterward. And because I… know who the real culprit is. But I can’t say who it is.”
If Je-ha is still curious, he can go ask her magic mirror about it because her computer knows everything about her. She’s adjusted the controls so that it’ll listen to his voice too now, and someone will need to listen in on their enemies while she undergoes investigation.
“Why is that me, of all people?” Je-ha asks. She reminds him that he deleted the email he treasured like his own life because he trusted her. Now she’s returning the favor by entrusting him with what she holds most dear: her magic mirror.
Sung-won barges into the room with a half-apology that he didn’t knock before entering again. He notes the gloomy mood, sending Je-ha a smile when the latter leaves. He isn’t fazed when Yoo-jin criticizes his writing skills nor when she threatens to destroy JB Group if he continues to test her.
He cheerily says Yoo-jin can give him Cloud Nine then, and Yoo-jin says she’d been wondering why their father had left him with JB Group, but gave JSS to her. It may have been a strategic move for Sung-won to form a marriage alliance with Jinhan Group, but what if their father was trying to protect his company from being taken over by Jinhan Group later on?
She wonders if that’s why Sung-won’s father-in-law is so anxious to have Cloud Nine for himself, but Sung-won returns that though with another question: “Do you think JB Group would’ve survived to this day if I had trusted my father-in-law?”
Sung-won says he probably would’ve taken over Jinhan Group if it weren’t for Cloud Nine keeping such a close eye on him. He laughs when Yoo-jin says it’s a relief he didn’t take after his mother, then offers some of subsidiary companies from JB Group.
She won’t have much time to think it over, Sung-won continues—she’ll either undergo a light questioning or be arrested for Um Hye-rin’s murder.
Je-ha heads down to the Cloud Nine sublevel where he no longer has to pass through any security measures. Just as Yoo-jin said, the computer recognizes his voice and affirms that he has full access to the informational database. He’s free to ask any and all questions, including ones about Yoo-jin.
Se-joon comes down to the hospital per Yoo-jin’s request. She explains that it’s better that they head to the police station together if they’re both expected to be there. When she asks that she’d like for him to be by her side, he answers, “Why? Do you need someone to catch you?”
He offers to send her with his bodyguards, but they show up to the station together. The press are eager for a statement, so she gives it. Not only is Anna watching this broadcast but so is Sung-won and Representative Park in their respective offices, and so is Je-ha down in the sublevel.
She apologizes to the people for not coming clean sooner, and speaks with tears falling from her eyes: “My Anna… is my daughter. And Anna is like my own daughter.”
“Anna is…” she says carefully. “…my husband, Assemblyman Jang Se-joon’s biological daughter.”
COMMENTS
Surely this couldn’t be the plan Yoo-jin had in mind when she hinted in the previous episode’s cliffhanger about a plan in motion, could it? Or maybe, like so many other times, we’re left to wait several more episodes before any statement is brought back into the narrative foreground again.
Yoo-jin’s public declaration takes away the one card that could’ve been used against her, but what she does next will determine whether or not it was to her advantage. Neither she nor Secretary Kim could’ve anticipated the gossip online post about her and Anna, though she isn’t the least surprised that Sung-won was responsible for it. As for her fainting spell, while there are some characters who hope to believe that the moment of weakness was a part of a bigger plan, I’m inclined to think that her head throbbing was real, since she has previously mentioned it in times of extreme stress. It’s a bit hard to believe that a story everyone questioned the validity of would be her tipping point in this hour, but her hospitalization did give us some important exchanges.
The most crucial of those is her admission to Je-ha that she did not murder Anna’s mother or call for the hit. Given her level of concern for him, I don’t think she would’ve lied to Je-ha about this admission. Even if it was misguided, she acknowledges that it was this idea that enabled her to control Se-joon, whom she loved once but did not love her in return. If we are to take her words at face value, then she knows who truly killed Anna’s mother and cannot speak the name. That statement begs the question of who that might be and why she either cannot or chooses not to divulge the culprit.
Her admission contradicts Anna’s memory in this episode, which called upon an image of Yoo-jin smothering her mother. What’s also confusing is that the shadow mentions the woman who sits next to Anna during her interview, which leaves open the tiny possibility that it wasn’t Yoo-jin. But then if the murderer was the TV host, I would think that Yoo-jin would have no qualms about getting rid of her. So basically, we’re left wondering who is telling us the truth.
What we don’t know is just how far Sung-won has cast his net either. While he pulls off publicity stunts like tribute fashion shows and Anna’s visit to her mother’s grave, we see some ripples that hint that he’s also working toward something else. If we’re to believe that Sung-won is as cunning and mysterious as Master Song says he is, that is. He’s planted a seed of doubt in Anna about Je-ha, and he’s actively keeping Anna confused about his methods, masking his true intentions for possibly exposing Yoo-jin and acquiring Cloud Nine by focusing on reopening the case of Anna’s mother’s death.
I really do wonder what advantage Yoo-jin’s supercomputer has in this political war since any social media or online post about her or Anna is transmitted through her human secretary. Aside from the look into a few notable board members and digging into a part of Je-ha’s past, the mirror hasn’t added that much to the narrative. While you may not be able to see your own reflection in its transparent glass, Magic Mirror sure is a convenient way to watch television below ground.

I know all you Yoona Addicts were anxiously…. wait… oh… yea that’s right… wrong audience. ;)
Let’s try this again…
I know all you Song Yoon-ah Addicts (there we go!) were anxiously awaiting more of her wonderful turn as Yoo-jin. Today’s episode may not have been as fruitful for you as Episode 11 (that confrontation with Se-joon was quite the tour-de-force wasn’t it?). But we do get an interesting show nonetheless.
Today’s theme: The fight for control!
Let’s hit the highlights:
First, Anna’s fight for control over her mother’s narrative. Okay, characterizing it as a fight for control may be a stretch, but she is at least struggling to reconnect with and address her emotions and connection with her dead mother. So in a way, she is fighting for control over her own emotions and assessment of where she stands in relation to the memory of her mother. Attending her mother’s gravesite and acting as surrogate for her at the fashion show functions as a vehicle through which Anna is able to address the long suppressed feelings related to her mother and her passing. Anna is, in some respect, grieving for the first time. Like her physical isolation, Anna has been isolated from her own feelings and connection with her mother. Today’s episode shows her exploring and addressing emotions long suppressed during her captivity.

Second, Je-ha’s and Sung-won’s fight for control over position as shepherd for Anna during this time of her emotional vulnerability. Anna appears to have placed a concerning level of trust in “Uncle” Sung-won, allowing him to direct and lead her through the events related to her mother. She follows his lead in attending the gravesite, in attending the fashion show, and in allowing him to articulate the false narrative in regards to the situation between her mother, Se-joon and Yoo-jin. Je-ha senses that Sung-won is only using Anna to suit his designs for power, but Anna, in her state of emotional frailty, is either naive to or dismissive of her Uncle’s obvious machinations. His manipulation of her may not have immediate negative consequences, as at least for the time being, both his and Anna’s goals are somewhat aligned against Yoo-jin. Je-ha rightfully senses that Sung-won does not truly care for Anna, and that she will only be safe within his shadow only as far as her utility to him extends. Signs of his utilitarian approach to Anna are already apparent, and can be exemplified in the scene involving Anna’s taking of the medication. Concerned only with Anna’s “performance” to further his goal of gaining public sympathy for his designed narrative regarding Anna’s mother’s death, Sung-won facilitates Anna’s use of the anti-anxiety drug despite its possible health concerns for her. Je-ha protests out of his love and concern for her well-being. That Anna shrugs off Je-ha’s protestations, and chooses to trust in her Uncle over Je-ha is worrisome for their future.
Last, Yoo-jin’s fight to control her own narrative and the narrative of Anna’s relationship to her. Yoo-jin is embattled from all sides, facing attacks from Sung-won and an unclear threat from an unlikely source. Sung-won’s false story regarding the circumstances of Anna’s mother’s death instigates an investigation into Yoo-jin and her possible responsibility in that death. Additionally the tv pundit plant that had been sided with her faction appears to have traded loyalties and is advocating not in her favor on national television. [...]

[...] Overcome with the allegation that she was involved in the death of Anna’s mother, Yoo-jin appears to faint from the onslaught. Although to her enemies and underlings it may appear to only be an intentional play by Yoo-jin to direct the situation in her favor, we the audience are not so sure that the play was calculated. Anna’s hospital visit also exposes her to a threat from an unlikely source, in that of Master Song. Master Song, all smiles and bearing gifts of juice, unexpectedly makes some kind of ambiguous threat that Yoo-jin clearly fears, as indicated by her anger shown once she recognizes she’s being threatened. As we are shown in today’s episode, Master Song may be more than just comedic relief. He apparently has a history with Yoo-jin and her family, and that history (and what he may know) poses some threat to Yoo-jin and her attempts to maintain power. It will be interesting to see what Master Song knows (who killed Anna’s mother perhaps?) and how it poses threat to Yoo-jin and her aspirations. In a desperate attempt to take back control over the narrative, Yoo-jin ultimately reveals the information that she has for so long stopped at nothing to contain, that of the parentage of Anna by Se-joon. That whopper rightfully comes at the climax of the episode, leaving us a juicy cliff-hanger to satiate us until next week’s episode.
Well, that’s all for today! I hope all are still enjoying the show. Are any Anna/Je-ha fans left? Or do I stand alone? Haha. Judging by some of the comments I’ve read, it seems there are a lot of individuals cursing the lost opportunity for some kind of romance between Je-ha and Yoo-jin. I can’t say I disagree with the feeling that the two definitely have great chemistry together. But, alas, I am ultimately rooting for an Anna/Je-ha pairing. You know me, all in for Yoona and all. I guess I must be in, as one commentator put it, the category of viewer who watches with the sole concern of seeing the OTP come to fruition. A contemptible simpleton, I think, was the implication, lol. No matter! I’ve been referred to as worse, lol. It’s all in good fun anyway! :)

Definitely a fan of the Jeha/Anna pairing here. I don't understand the dislike for Anna or for this drama generally. Granted it feels exaggerated and surreal the way dreams often do, but this is a melodrama after all; nothing new there. I have rarely hated a character as much as I hate Yoojin...and practically every other character in this drama that is engrossed in manipulation and greed. The young couple are a hint of hope in a very dark world and I keep following the drama waiting for them to find a way out.

You know, I absolutely love Yoo-jin as a character. But it's one of those things where I love her, but I don't want her with our lead hero (despite their obvious sexual chemistry hehe).

Now see, I think with time, I'll be on this ship. I JUST marathoned Healer (I know, woefully late to THAT party), so I'm still on the JCW as Healer role now. It feels like he's cheating right now! Gonna have to just read recaps for now. Dang! It looks like an interesting show, though. Maybe I'll power through my mental block and watch anyway.

I'm on this ship! Anna and Je-ha have a chemistry so thick I can't breathe sometimes (yes I'm thinking of that blanket kiss). I won't comment on the rest of the show but I love them!

This is also one of the reasons why I continue to watch this drama, despite how convoluted it is getting.
Right now, Anna is transforming into the next Yoo Jin right before Je Ha's eyes. She is on the brink of going to the dark side, with a lot of "help" from her Uncle, who is very cunning enough to manipulate Anna's hate for YJ, her psychological trauma and her years of isolation. JH and Anna are pawns in this whole political game that everyone else is playing and unfortunate victims of circumstances and the romantic in me wants to see them getting over their respective traumas and away from everyone else's machinations.

When Anna is transforming, why couldnt Yoo jin..... when Yoo jin didnt even have someone like Jeha with her during her tough times...... I feel Yoojin had gone through a lot more than what Anna is going through..... And it is obvious she turned out how she turned out to be...... Dont know why Yoojin trust Jeha so much.... Poor lady... Trusting the wrong person has brought her here... Hope Jeha sticks to her.... And somehow miraculously save Anna too... How about one happy family... Definitely without that Sejoon guy.... Just kill him and give happy ending to others....

Great comparison. This episode we get the bandit's fabricated story. And now Anna now has two conflicting 'memories', both based on how others manipulated her.
I tell ya'. She has the e.q. of a kid going through puberty. Quickly becoming my least favorite part of the story. If the show is about lambs than lions I'd be happy to see her go dark and go off to live with 'Uncle'. Leading JH to realize that sometimes damsels in distress aren't victims. And at the end have the show's two lions -- a now-obviously misunderstood YJ and still-mysterious JH -- riding into the sunset (I mean season 2) together. Where they'll take down the baddies with Cloud Nine....among other things. ?
It'd fit your comparison. That story was a study in ambiguity and concluded without revealing the truth. We'd need a Season 2 to get to the bottom of things.

I just meant be part of his cohort, living apart from YJ, K2 and the 'good' guys.
But kinda:
They're not blood related; he's a predatory creep who's the son of a predatory mistress; and -- yunno -- cubs grow up to be like their parents. Though, since she's the daughter of two lambs that were both pawns in a bigger game, this storyline would make her both a culpable and a pitiable victim. From a narrative sense it ties together a lot of the 'rules' in the show's world.
My co-wish would be the revelation that Raniya was more Mata Hari than Muhatma Ghandi; and had targeted JH to exploit him. And this revelation helps JH move on from both of them. Transferring his focus the one who's truly worth helping.
Basically I just want the two to end up helping each other and for a story that focuses on them. There's so much story left to tell about the various characters and the events of their world that it would be a shame if they tied it all up in a neat bow in only a few more episodes.

In short, that storyline would make complete narrative sense and wouldn't leave us with an unsatisfying ending.

I am wondering if maybe the real killer is Master Song. Not sure why Yoo jin would protect him though. He knows all about her past though, and possibly to him she was like Anna is now, before she embraced the dark side. As far as Magic Mirror. It has done more than what we actually see her ask of it. More than likely it was the tool that showed her where Park Kwan Soo's hideout was located.

well I wont choose them as the best OTP in the dramaland and i'm nothing like smitten by either yoona or JCW...but i dont hate their pair and their characters. I think jae ha and Anna are convincing enough for me in K2. Yoo jin is a strong character and all but I never was in the yoo jin-Jae ha ship.

i'm the same way. i think yoo jin is a well built character, but i would never like her with je ha. maybe there is some kind of yearning on her end, but i have never felt any kind of longing for or interest in yoo jin from je ha.
i see je ha and anna as two people in need of healing who can find that in each other and already do, while yoo jin is someone who, at this point, i honestly have a hard time seeing ever get out of the world she's created for herself. would she ever be able to separate from this world of manipulation, greed, and corruption that runs as deep as the inside of korean politics? i honestly don't think so.

It is refreshing to hear that someone likes the main couple! this thread has always annoyed me because i feel like people can be easily swayed with yoo jin's character. I mean yes her character is well written and well acted, but someone even said that she is more pititful and had a worse life than anna! guys as much as you like her you seriously need a recap of episode 1 and 2 and how she was willing to kill a pair of innocent farmers and je ha just for her own means. she isnt innocent, pitiful victim. At this point she is just as bad as anyone on this show. Just because she thinks herself a victim doesn't make her one. And most importantly with the whole je ha and yoo jin pairing weirdness, you forget that he never has trusted her and never will. He knows he can only truly trsut himself and anna.

Yea I don't know that I'm on board with that interpretation.
I'll grant them that Yoo-jin has by no means had it easy. And she's alluded to being turned from lamb to wolf.
But I don't know that her situation outweighs the hardship experienced by Anna.
Anna has had to deal with the murder of her mother. She has been made to believe that she was even the one personally responsible for her mother's murder (by giving her the pills).
She's been held prisoner for nearly half her life in a far off country removed from her home. In that captivity she was held in cruel isolation from any social interaction with others. She's had no friends or supporters.
Now she's being manipulated in her state of emotional vulnerability by others who would use her for their own ends. These individuals are exploiting her grief and emotional frailty to suit their nefarious agendas.
Further she believes her own father to have both physically and emotionally abandoned both her and her mother.
In all this turmoil, she’s having to confront the world for the first time in her life while also having to really grapple with and address the death of her mother for the first time.
These are each major issues to be dealt with by themselves, let alone at the same time.
I'd say Anna's situation trumps.
But hey, I'm an admitted fanboy, so I'm probably biased. :)

Just jumping into say that even this non-fangirl agrees. Anna is a victim, and she has had a much rougher time than Yoo-jin. Yoo-Jin was a victim at one time, but as soon as she actually started to take revenge on those she feels wronged her and to threaten or take the lives of other people she lost that victim status. Now she is just an evil person justifying her actions by claiming to be the victim. Anna and Je-ha both stand at a similar crossroad in their lives. Anna is the pure innocent at this point, and Je-ha is like the midpoint between Anna and Yoo-jin. I really hope the last few episodes explore the choice they have going forward and even the choice Yoo-jin may have to repent and turn back.

i agree, and i am not a yoona fangirl despite how much i tend to defend her on other sites (don't know how that happens but i often find myself white-knighting a girl i have never stanned and still do not stan).
i think yoo jin has had a hard life, she does genuinely believe herself to be a victim, but she is still the one in control of her actions and decisions, and she chooses to be corrupt, evil, and manipulative time after time. i don't understand how there are some people who wish for her to come out on top in the end with a happy ending for her and a bad ending for anna.

Yay, recap is up! I can finally talk about my theory of who killed Um Hyerin.
My theory is that Yoojin’s father, the late Chairman, killed Um Hyerin. I don't believe Yoojin did. Here's why:
From the TV interview with Yoojin and Anna, we learn that Um Hyerin used to model for JB Group. The interviewer lady mentioned that Yoojin was supposed to be studying abroad at that time, and couldn't have met Hyerin... but most likely, the Chairman did.
My guess is that the Chairman meets Hyerin and later on, finds out she's having an affair with Jang Sejoon, his daughter’s husband. From Master Song’s convo with Jeha, we learn that the late Chairman disliked Sejoon and wanted his daughter with someone else. Knowing that Sejoon married Yoojin for political gain AND had an affair, I’m thinking the late Chairman decided to take action and ordered someone to kill Hyerin.
By having Hyerin killed, the late Chairman could get back at Sejoon for using Yoojin and he’s able to protect JB Group from the affair scandal from coming out. But he didn't kill Anna because as Master Song said to Yoojin in the hospital, there's a certain moral code you shouln't break. Namely that you can kill an adult who is at fault, but don’t touch their kids who are innocent and have nothing to do with it.
After Hyerin was killed, the Chairman had the death set up as suicide and the case was closed.
My guess is that later on, once the Chairman dies, Choi Sungwon (the current Chairman, Anna’s “uncle”), wanted to use Hyerin’s death to get rid of Yoojin for good. If Yoojin was imprisoned for murder, then she wouldn’t be able to steal JB Group from Sungwon.
The only hiccup with that scenario is that Yoojin got Anna first and hid her away in Spain where she was heavily guarded. Sungwon is unable to get to Anna, and he needs her in order to frame Yoojin. Sungwon can’t call foul play about Hyerin’s death and frame Yoojin without exposing their father’s connection to Hyerin's murder. But Anna, who is Hyerin’s daughter, can call attention to the death without raising suspicion about JB Group’s involvement. She could also testify as a witness against Yoojin. So Sungwon needs Anna, but he loses her until he finds her again at JSS. Once he sees her, he can put his plans back into motion, with framing Yoojin for Hyerin’s murder.
As for Yoojin, it was in her best interest to pretend she killed Hyerin. When speaking to Jeha, Yoojin says she knows who the real murderer is but cannot speak the name. The only person Yoojin would protect would be someone she loves… and my guess is that she wanted to protect her father’s reputation and JB Group, so she took the blame herself.
In addition, she also says that it was her way of threatening Sejoon and making sure he never left her. Pretending she killed Hyerin made it seem that she could also kill Anna, and this guarantees that Sejoon will do what she wants.

But I also suspect that some small part of Yoojin wanted to protect Anna. As evil as she tries to be especially to Anna, Yoojin previously compared Anna to herself. I bet she identifies with Anna, as someone who is a lot like her… a wolf cub turned wolf, due to the dangerous men who manipulated them when they were just innocents.
I also believe her when she says she didn’t commit the murder or order anyone to. Yoojin has no reason to lie to Jeha at this point, especially since she backs up her words with proof of her trust in him: namely, giving him complete access to the Mirror. Why would she entrust him with something so important, but then lie to him about killing Hyerin? We could argue that she was lying because she didn’t want to lose Jeha, but I don’t think that’s the case. If she was going to lie, she could just say it wasn’t her and she didn’t know who did it. Instead, she admits to knowing who the murderer is but says, “I cannot say the name.”
She is definitely protecting someone, and the only one I could see her wanting to protect is her father.
So that's my theory!!
Also, side note but I believe Sungwon is gaslighting Anna. Meaning, he's doing what he can to manipulate her memories and her perception. I absolutely think the burglar in prison was lying about Yoojin being the murderer. Sungwon just needs Anna to believe that Yoojin did it. Wouldn't be surprised if he wants her to get addicted to those chill pills, so he could control her further. And flashing that light in her face during the fashion show? I think he's doing it to make Anna doubt herself, to believe she's weak and needs Sungwon to help her.

Your theory will save the drama from a train wreck. Hopefully the writer stops putting in other side stories and fillers (given we only have 4 more episodes to go). Now let's get back to business - this is a socio-poilitcal drama right? for awhile i forgot it was. But the biggest question is who is K2? Little has been told about his backstory other than he joined blackstone and wanted to avenge the death of rainia. focus, focus ... no more distractions please ... should we put blinders on the writer similar to those you see on horses?

100% agree. There's so few episodes that they really need to narrow down what they want to give us.
And so true about K2... we don't even know his real name. That reminds me, as much as Anna and Jeha hope to go to Spain one day, Jeha can't even apply for a passport because the real Kim Jeha went missing overseas. I'm pretty sure that's what Chief Jo told him when he was first trying to convince Jeha to join JSS.

but i have a hunch Writernim himself has transform into W-dad, being oblivious about the identity of K2, that while W's anatagonist exist to create tragic back story to Hero, this Hero exist with a shallow tragic back story so that he can be seen as a heart wounded guy lost his first love...(huh, btw, that 'first love' isn't even convincing as "stirring your vitals and trembling earth"... this Writernim may not even be prepared to give a convincing revelation what has cause "Becoming K2"? JCW's character hope will NOT be exist to provide the romantic arch of romancing 3 women, the first he loved but cannot protect, the second he don't love but seems unconsciously keep protecting each other, and the 3rd he love and lived to protect. Well, in between, throw in countless fighting scenes that JCW did himself, and not to forget must bare abs and butt in such a cheap display of his assets (no wonder keep leaking that they TvN paid him the highest fee among all actors)!
I DOUBT they are interested in showing the depth of his characters, as long as they can continue to satisfy the other half of fandom that are happy as long as they throw in MORE kisses, and maybe a bed scene.
so, based on the iresponsble way PD said about no intention of throwing in even a YJ falling unrequitedly in love with him, that it is all Song YunAh's doing.. i have no confident they will show what makes K2 as K2 , or what make YJ as YJ.

I honestly have no idea where this show is going, but I don't care. It all comes down to Song Yoon Ah. While YoonA is set up to be the heroine, she's had turns as both heroine and villain. She's carrying the show and my god she and Ji Chang Wook have white hot chemistry.

I totally agree with you.
I usually watch dramas for the romantic couple, but this time I couldn't care less. The loveline still feels a little forced to me. I don't like Anna as a character, even considering her difficult story. I don't feel like she's compatible with Je Ha, his intensity and all his personal bagage. I actually feel like she's more like a narrative device to the story than her own person.
Meanwhile, YooJin is sooooooo interesting. Her relationship with JeHa is amazing, and I don't mean in a romantic way. They have intense chemistry and have both experienced how horrible the world can be. I'm really curious of her next step. While I see her as a misunderstood character, I still think she is a badass antagonist and has a lot of cards under her sleeves.

I dropped the show after episode 4 maybe..considering how yoo jin had lesser screen times week after week. Has it gotten any better now? Mat be I will binge watch it when the show ends just to catch yoo jin's parts. She's too great an actress to miss I guess . Even the images are making me appreciate her depth of in character mode.

Poor Ji Chang Wook and Yoona are getting the short end of the stick because writer did not do a good job on their character development. JCW is doing the best he can but Je Ha seem so boring at this point. Yoona...is it her acting in addition to poor writing/directing? I dunno, I usually get emotional with such pitiful characters. But the Anna character is not doing anything for me. I started watching the show for JCW. But now I tune in just for that Yoo Jin character. Mr. Writer puts in so much emphasis on Yoo Jin, it''s like he has his newbie assistants write the remaining scenes that make up the show.

Even JCW is made for action drama, I hope his next project will be something that we can emotionally invested. Maybe he should do melodrama next time without action scenes. And hope he gets better partner, maybe reunite with Baek Jin Her because I really loved them in Empress Ki although there was no romance between them.

Agreed completely. The writting for both Je Ha and Anna is quite weak and their moments together are cute but don't really flow well with the rest of the show. It's as if a lite breezy pure romcom was cut and pasted for their scenes together.
Anna's character is so vanilla and so easily manipulated, (who she decides to trust is baffeling) it's a little painful to watch. Still think this role was too much for Yoona to take on at this point in her career- but I mostly blame the writting though for lack of audience connection.
Logically I understand why Je Ha and Anna would be drawn to each other but their connection doesn't feel investment worthy or captivating. I"m pretty sure the writting is to blame.

I'm a big Ji Chang Wook fan and I'm not allergic to Yoona but I really don't care whether they'll end up together and live happily ever after. The only character and the only actor I'm looking forward is Choi Yoo Jin/Song Yoon Ah..
It's a shame really.. If only the writer could write the characters with many layers and depth and the director is competent enough to direct the actors.

I think the writer is a fanboy of SYA, so that's why he only write SYA's character in a very interesting way. Lol. No complaints, though. Because he made us fanboying/ fangirling SYA as well.
I read somewhere yesterday, hope it does not sound so dirty ?one guy commented that if there is a chance, he wants to sleep with SYA regardless of her age because he found SYA is so attractive? but yes how come someone over 40 looks hotter though.?

It has just got too convoluted to make any sense, and it seems like the solution to every problem for everyone is to just kill a few people. I guess the police in Korea just ignore all those bodies and missing people scattered all over. Dumb.

Song Yoon Ah was originally the main female lead and still do, and she is also carrying this show. I think without her, this show probably become less interesting unless Choi Yeo Jin carried by someone as good as SYA.
Let the younger ones i.e Ji Chang Wook and Yoona handle the romance.

Totally agree. Writer and PD-nim should get their act together. It's a shame to waste Song Yoon Ah and Ji Chang Wook talents. I think Song Yoon Ah brings the best out of Ji Chang Wook in this drama. Her scenes with JCW are going to be classic.

Agreed! I'm going to keep an eye out for SYA dramas from now onwards. She's definitely the main character in this drama. Je-ha was extremely fascinating at the start, but I feel his character got pretty boring midway through.
Love the chemistry between her and Ji Chang-wook though!
IMO, Anna as a character annnoys me, I never enjoyed the damsel-in-distress characters. Also, her blind trust towards Sung-won drives me batty. That man has been so shady from the start, shouldn't she be getting some negative vibes from some strange dude who kidnaps her and starts pushing pills at her?

I admit, I have a soft spot for the innocent waif character archetype (derisively referred to as damsel-in-distress lol). Guess that explains why Anna doesn't rub me wrong like she does so many of you all here.

I understand that because when my bias is playing the naive, innocent girl i automatically connected with her, although in honestly I hate this character. But since she is my bias, I just cannot dislike her because gosh,who can ever hate their bias although it is acting only lol?Anyway that is me. I don't know about others.

girls/women tend to be more biased against "damsels in distress" than men, in my experience. not sure why tbh.
i'm a girl who has never disliked that trope to the extent that others do, so i still grow fondness for characters like anna if there is a reason why they are weak or shy or meek. characters like anna, the protagonist in oh my ghostess! before she was possessed, etc. are characters i can understand an empathize with. anna is a product of her tragic upbringing. her trust in shady people is frustrating, yes, but it is understandable. in the situation she is in, it makes sense to me that she'd follow someone who has the same goal as her and is against the woman she feels has been torturing her since she was a small child. i think she has a clear role in this drama, which is to contrast with yoo jin, show us the side of je ha that is not involved in the world of corruption and manipulation, and ultimately move the story along.
i do wish anna was given the same attention by writers that yoo jin got, but we can never get perfect dramas. plus, bad guys are easier to make complex than good ones. everyone is interested in what makes a person bad and debating whether or not said bad person is truly evil.

I don't have a problem with the damsel in distress archetype. It's a pretty powerful anima figure that many woman, willingly or not, have played for many men. Such anima, and animus, figures are repeated again and again in literature, drama, the arts etc. These archetypes are powerful for a reason in that they say something about the human condition. I don't even have a problem with Anna being slightly naive and innocent as the product of her convent upbringing.
What I do have a problem with is the consistent infantilizing of Anna's character. She's hungry but - oh, no! - she can't turn on the stove. Instead she sulkily shares her dried ramen with a very young stray kitten which is probably the last thing it should be eating. Why don't you take it into the kitchen and feed it something more appropriate? She gives her "boyfriend" who is really supposed to be her bodyguard a make over and then gives all of her security staff facials right after a very dangerous mission which could have seen some of them killed. What's next? A tea party with her dollies?
I know Anna is supposed to be half of our OTP but give me a break! At least make her a worthy mate for our mysterious, sexy, dangerous, battle scarred hero. I want a woman in this role, not an arrested development baby doll. Because as it stands now, her character says more about Je-ha than about her. Like what does it say about him that he finds a woman like her attractive? Contrast this with Yoo-jin. She's as mysterious, sexy, dangerous and even as battle scarred as he is. The fact is that the two actors have great chemistry, play off each other brilliantly and are giving their every interaction layers of sexual tension. This is what I am responding to and it's clear others are as well given the PD's unfortunate remarks about the fact the characters don't find each other attractive at all. Ummmm, okay.......

I don't necessarily like Yoona or Anna's character, but she's characterized as someone simple like that. She's not really a part of society but more like a caged animal. So she can only think in certain ways. Of course she couldn't bring the kitten into the kitchen, then the guards would find out she had been outside without their permission or even out of their sight. The makeovers and staff facials makes sense as well.
However, I do agree with you -- what does Jeha see in her? She's not at all a companion to him in any sense. The only thing I could justify is that in her he sees his redemption for not being able to protect Rania. Romance though, no idea.

what would he NOT see in her? she's pretty, she's sweet, she's innocent, and he enjoys his time with her.
a lot of guys like sweet and innocent girls... like, a lot.. and jae ha loved raniya, who is way more similar to anna than to yoo jin.
plus, the thing with the cat was meant to be a parallel with je ha (he did the exact same thing with a kitten in one of the first episodes). think they gave us that scene to show us similarities between je ha and anna, who are more alike than i feel a lot of people think. they are both heavily wounded souls who are good at heart but need to let go and live. the beach scene was a beautiful display of that, in my opinion, but i guess i am in the minority of people who genuinely enjoy watching je ha and anna together.

- Anna was held in isolated captivity for nearly half her life, a time during which she presumably had no exposure to a cooking range. Nor did she presumably have access to any literature detailing the mechanical attributes related to the gas input to said cooking range. Given such factors, one failing to have the adequate sophistication to realize the gas input was closed is a reasonable assumption.
“[S]he sulkily shares her dried ramen with a very young stray kitten which is probably the last thing it should be eating. Why don’t you take it into the kitchen and feed it something more appropriate?”
- A character feeding a feline at night in the dark is a stock scenario common throughout both film and television and has seen frequent use since at least the silent film era to depict a downtrodden character in such a way as to evoke sympathy from the audience. Unless society has come to the conclusion that outdoor feeding of cats is some grievous breach of logic, said depiction does in no way reflect on her alleged “infantilism”.
“She gives her “boyfriend” who is really supposed to be her bodyguard a make over and then gives all of her security staff facials right after a very dangerous mission which could have seen some of them killed. What’s next? A tea party with her dollies?”
- This is the show’s attempt to provide humorous respite from the heavier fare. Such a construct is a common device used not only in Korean dramas, but worldwide film and television. Furthermore, the concept of gruff males reluctantly using facial masks is, in particular, a specific trope found in Korean dramas. Your assertion that this reflects an “infantile” mindset in Anna is a subjective assertion at best, and I think, an over analysis of the scene. It’s a shameless attempt at comedic relief. No more, no less.

Given that I reject your assertion that Anna is “infantile” (for the reasons stated above), I fail to see how Je-ha showing romantic interest in a married, unavailable, jaded, dangerous older woman is a positive reflection of his character while him showing romantic interest in a young, unmarried, available, attractive, kind, unjaded woman near his age, who shows mutual interest in him, expresses no ill will toward him, enjoys his company, needs his support, and allows him to tap into a gentler side of himself, is somehow a negative reflection of character.

Wow, lots of points here. It's Hallowe'en night and in my province (I'm Canadian) tonight's the night people set off fireworks and firecrackers. It sounds like a war zone outside my house and I hope my sons aren't engaging in dangerous teenaged hijinks right now so I'll be brief.
About the stove and not being able to figure out how to turn it on. She's been raised in a Spanish convent by nuns not in a dungeon by trolls so I'm sure she's been educated, taught to cook and probably does some very fine embroidery. We already know she's not exactly worldly wise and is a bit naive. I have no problem with that. So why bother to show her flailing at the sight of a gas cooker? I maintain the result is to infantilize the character not to show her naivety.
Ah yes - saving the cat. It is a screenwriter's shorthand for generating sympathy for a character who would not otherwise be sympathetic. Like the contract killer in the 1942 noir classic, This Gun For Hire, where the expression actually comes from. But why do the writers need to generate that kind of sympathy for Anna anyway? And if so, properly feed the damn cat! Isn't she the female half of the OTP? It makes her seem pathetic, not sympathetic, at least to me.
Well, like the blanket kiss which I guess was supposed to be cute and romantic but was, again just in my opinion, embarrassing, I found the facial scene pretty idiotic, unfunny and jarring. But I agree it is more of an indication of a poor script in desperate need of a good editor. My point is that the character of Anna is being undercut; she's being written as being just too childlike, inappropriate in my opinion, as a credible love interest for Je-ha. As opposed to an innocent and naive but not childish Anna, who would be an appropriate love interest.
Oh, Je-ha's going to end up with Anna, no question about that. I'd just personally like to see the other half of an OTP be an older, mysterious, sexy, dangerous, battle scarred woman who is been married in name only to a womanizing jerk for years for once. I wouldn't call her jaded exactly, though, as it appears she has honoured her marriage vows even as her husband has flung his affairs in her face repeatedly. Especially with two actors who have great chemistry, work well together and are creating a great deal of heat and tension on screen. Okay, it ain't going to happen but it's the reason I haven't dropped K2.

I need a female protagonist who has strength with a streak of vulnerability for me to be emotionally invested. Yoojin is a more compelling female character to watch.
Her scenes with Je ha is always layered with undertones. Draws you in.

I know Yoojin is somewhat manipulative but i genuinely believed her when she told Jeha that she didn't kill Ume Hye Rin

I think it's Yoo Jin's (dead) dad.
He trained his daughter for management, she married the wrong man, and then that wrong man turns out to have a secret family. As a father he sounds quite ruthless and may very well have told Yoo Jin all of this to her face: abandon her husband, marry a suitable chaebol, inherit the company. I would not be surprised if her father disclosed the entire affair to her aiming to manipulate her.
It looks like Se Joon didn't visit Ume Hye Rin for a while before her death; it's possible Yoo Jin had actually raised the entire thing for them to deal with as a couple. It's also possible that she had set some form of guard on Hye Rin with the knowledge her father might go that far.
And I think he did. I think her father killed Hye Rin to exert control on Se Joon, and that Yoo Jin's team were too late to stop the murder but quick enough to snag Anna and spirit her away. Yoo Jin then had 10 hours before breakfast the next morning to get her game face on and figure out a counter-plan, possibly seriously splitting from her father for the first time.
Another possibility? It's Uncle, and he murdered Hye Rin to leave Anna in the wind and basically force Se Joon to recognize her, exploding Yoo Jin's empire early on before she could build power. But she was too quick for him.
Either way, I think Master Song knows most of this plan.

I agree with everything you said re: Yoojin's father killing Hyerin.
I also believe he ordered the hit, and didn't do it himself. Powerful men like the Chairman probably didn't get their hands dirty and had others to do it. So even if the burglar was somewhat truthful, and it was really was a woman who did the murdering, then the theory still works.
As for the alternate possibility, with Sungwon as the murderer... I seriously thought it was him at first. I was so convinced and ready to write a post detailing why I thought it was him UNTIL... Yoojin's conversation with Jeha.
She said she knew who murdered Hyerin but cannot say the name. If it really was her brother, then why not use that against him, expose the murder, and take JB Group away? There is no reason for Yoojin to keep this hush hush, considering how she even admitted that the two of them (she and Sungwon) were not close. I tried to think of anyone Yoojin wouldn't sacrifice to get JB Group back, and no one came to mind except her Father. Yoojin was even willing to give up Secretary Kim if Jeha really wanted to kill her, and I bet Secretary Kim has been with Yoojin forever. So really, Yoojin doesn't appear to have anyone else that she would protect...except if her Father did it.

I think Sung-woo's mother, who was the Chairman's mistress then wife and the chaebol father-in-law planned and executed the whole murder plot. Se-joon seduces Yoo-jin who is so naive she falls for and marries him against her father's wishes. Sung-woo marries the woman he's supposed to for money to save the business. The Chairman disinherits Yoo-jin from the JB Group but leaves her the real prize which is JSS. I'm guessing they have a lot of dirt on everybody and his or her dog at this point. That's what second wife and father-in-law really want. I don't think Sung-woo was in on the plan because he's managed thus far to keep control of JB Group out of his father-in-law's hands.
But Se-joon has a previous entanglement in the form of Ume Hye-rin and his daughter, Anna. Maybe he did really intend to abandon Yoo-jin and leave the country with them. If he did that, Yoo-jin would be heart-broken but her father would probably have been delighted. He would likely re-inherit her asap and she would have now been the next in line for the chairmanship instead of Sung-woo. It's a job he seems to have trained her for after all.
The way to prevent this is to kill Ume Hye-rin and make it look like suicide. It was probably part of the plan to kill Anna as well to look like a murder/suicide. Se-joon will stay in Korea with Yoo-jin, she will remain disinherited, Sung-woo will assume the chairmanship on the death of their father and the second wife and father-in-law still have a chance to take it all. But the fortuitous appearance of the burglar saves Anna and Anna is now a dangerous witness. I think the person Yoo-jin has been protecting all along is Anna and why it's so important for her to remain hidden. And it's still too dangerous for her to reveal what she knows because Anna is now in the clutches of the enemy.

i understand why people would think it's yoo-jin's (now deceased) father, but i think it was a female. maybe yoo-jin's mother? whom we know very little about. and since she too had a cheating husband, she would have had plenty of motive to kill hye-rin.
somehow i don't see the chairman being the murderer. why would he do it himself? he himself was a cheating husband, so i don't know that i can really see him being infuriated enough to kill hye-rin with his own hands.
anna also remembers a female presence that night, and if the prisoner's words are truthful (there's a chance that he and sung-hoon were in cahoots together if you ask me, for anna's benefit), he also mentions a female.
secretary kim would be too obvious at this point, though if she is lesbian and in love with yoo-jin (which is my theory), it would also make sense for her to kill the woman who hurt the woman she loved. but somehow i don't see this either.
i'm DYING to know who it might be. but so far i can only think of yoo-jin's mother.

this week's episodes were much better than last, though i HATE the je-ha/anna romance with a passion. it has no place in this story and it just throws everything else off balance. i feel like this is really yoo-jin's story, and they keep giving anna more and more screen time, and it's frustrating. mostly because it's not well executed at all.
i really hope that by the end of this show, we won't have so many questions about yoo-jin, because she's utterly, utterly fascinating. meaning: THIS SHOW BETTER WRAP EVERYTHING UP PROPERLY.
1. so far my theory is that yoo-jin's mother killed um hye-rin. i can't think of anyone else at this point... unless it really was anna, somehow!? as a child she was wracked with guilt that she had caused her mother's death. what if there's something about that night that she doesn't remember? just a theory, to throw on top of the others out there. but i feel like the murderer would have been a female. anna remembers a female presence, the prisoner mentioned a female.
i also rule out secretary kim. it just doesn't seem to fit, though i do think she is lesbian and in love with yoo-jin.
2. isn't it time we got more of je-ha's back story? actually, not "more of" since we hardly got any to begin with! we're 12 episodes in, and i don't know how many more we're supposed to get (16-20?), but shouldn't we be getting a lot more right about now?
3. totally knew yoo-jin would reveal the truth about anna's parentage at that scene. i was cheering on the inside, because it gives her back the power. and with her greatest weakness exposed (by herself), i think it will make her stronger to fight back. she clearly took her foes aback, and i had no pity for her pathetic husband who clearly did not expect it to happen.
4. about se-joon. he cares for his daughter, no doubt. and i admired that he stood up to yoo-jin. in a way, she deserved the slap/punch for what she did to anna. but at the same time, you never a strike a woman. and what right does he have to do anything, after what he's done to the women who have loved him? hye-rin, anna, and yoo-jin.
5. i wonder if the squad leader + the doc will come back. i don't have too much faith in this writer now—he writes a fascinating story, but in the end it becomes smothered in romance and fluff and i just want to make sure all the loose ends are tied up. the squad leader maybe wasn't a significant character—i thought he might be, because the actor isn't an unknown. but the doctor definitely seemed to recognize je-ha. there was that beat, on his part, though je-ha didn't seem to know him. will there be follow up?
i just want a good strong wrap up for yoo-jin and je-ha, and put the damn romance aside.

Oh man!! I've been skimming over all the older K2 episodes and it just hit me... The funeral that the whole family attended back in Ep5 was for Yoojin's Aunt, the one who left all her JB Group shares to Yoojin. The same aunt who Yoojin took care of in her final years.
This whole time I kept thinking there was no one else Yoojin would try to protect except her Father, but maybe she was protecting her Aunt??!?!? Secretary Kim said Yoojin and her aunt genuinely cared about each other, and Yoojin replied that they sympathized with each other...they were both lonely.
What if Yoojin's aunt found out about Sejoon's affair, and decided to kill Um Hyerin for Yoojin's sake? Yoojin took the blame so she could threaten Sejoon and keep him by her side. Maybe it was her aunt's plan all along, for Yoojin to use Sejoon's political greed to become president, and as First Lady, Yoojin can take JB Group.
Only thing is, I still don't believe the Yoojin's father or aunt would do the dirty work themselves. I think it still makes sense that they ordered someone to do it.
I also don't know why Im hung up on trying to figure out who did it lol. I just wanna know already haha

I have always thought people from different parties contest against each other in an election. So, why did se joon join kwan soo's party?
Also, its hard to see anna getting manipulated by sung won and also trusting him blindly. Also, If he had known that witness all along, why hadn't he used it against yoo jin till now? Why isn't anna thinking when the press is present when she visits her mother's grave, she should have thought 'who told them', right?
All the other male characters except for je ha seems to have a thing for laughing or smiling unnecessarily. Se joon did it in the first few episodes, sung won keeps smiling as though everything in the world is a joke to him, park kwan soo makes jokes to appear charming, now the police chief and the JSS chief also keeps laughing. It is kind of annoying. Is it the writing fault or are they doing It to project je ha as unique?

Sung Won is the King of Devils because he knows Anna believes or strongly believe that Yoo Jin killed her mother. He knowing that, manipulated this naive mind, because he knew he will succeed because he just need about 1% to prove it to Anna. Anna already believe 99% that Yoo Jin killed her mother. Anna for sure will believe it without any doubt. It's hard to see how easy she is manipulated but that's the setting for her character. It will be nice if Anna was not set up to be this naive, at least she should tell Jae Ha. I think she is not trusting Jae Ha is on her side because she believes Jae Ha is on Yoo jin's side.

Hi sera! I agree, she should tell je ha. He is the only one around her who truly cares about her. But now that she knows he is holding something back from her (why he is still working for yoo jin), I think she will feel justified in holding this back from him too.
Just a side note, when anna was wearing high heels and walking the ramp and stuff, I was reminded how you once commented that she might have had a team in spain who trained her in these things and I couldn't help laughing while watching that scene. :P

@Sera The Ms Temper, haha i did read your curiosity back in ep11 about back story of Anna. so did i read further up Cmoirae2's desire to know what contribute to becoming K2 as K2. so am i glad to found in this ep that YJ did truly loved this undeserving man, but how did she morph to such a bitter person from a very promising pretty young heir.
which led to one conclusion, this Writer is just plain interested to craft a very intriguing start with a mesmerizing back story for all 3 characters without any desires to fill up their void that keep hanging us there.... it still work for the veterens actress who can make good of the very lacking materials throw at her, to make us believe she has more story behind her... idols actresses just fall along the side as casualties by inexperiences.

On the other hand, if this drama is a setup between K2 and Anna's story as main story, then the writer surely failed and at fault. This drama always and never do not be the main story between K2 and Choi Yeo Jin. There is no such rule that the main leads should be in love and have a loveline, though.

TvN is always a profited minded station to fight against the Major 3 stations. being that, they did successful draw some blood, thru Reply88...etc. OTP Romance out of young Kpop idols are their mastery, and Yoona's Anna was always the major player in story, else why do you keep finding the theme of her being the "Angel / Snow white / Virgin bride" thru out the whole show, and CYJ slowly descended to be the evil queen when they found that surprisingly half of fandom grew fond to CJY's characters beside the superb acting of SYA.
i start the drama trying my best to separate seeing Yoona in Anna, but they keep mixing up the images of Yoona and Anna. Making Anna into An "Angel" worshiped by all instantly as a goddess figure, a "Snow White" suffered under Evil Queen instill pity in us, a "Virgin Bride" fitting in all her scenes in white running around bare footed, in bath robe, in almost a bridal gown at Mom Tribute Fashion show... so very loud, glamorous, demanding attention...
but we see very little strengths behind that Halo thrown around her.... speaking this not because of Yoona, but the character of Anna, what more funny is, as she emerges from her Snow White tower, she seems appear to be more and more like Yoona, i almost can't differentiate.

i actually wish to see writernim wrote her stronger, if he wrote properly, she can be on par with CYJ character, but NO! why?
he can write her to be such:
while in confinement, write her to be a leopard in lamb clothings. waiting to gain strength, secretly find ways to learn stuffs, that is a backstory so rich that Writernim can put extra depth into her character by showing how she already start fighting back for years, acting passive outwardly& playing dumb while locked up, even back in Korea finally, when she gain access to TV, let her check out channels that can help in her revenge plan... write her not a lamb but a leopard, knowing if she is out numbered but still fearfully but boldy fight on, and decided if die, she will go down with CYJ.... ISNT this a better way of writing Anna, then to see her mopping around, and boy, am i watching Paranormal Activity Korea Version, when i saw her roaming around mid night, so creepy... she can do a lot by winning hearts with the Ahjummah and J4.
i also want to see her, after being exposed to the world, start to reason within herself, who to trust, and don't stereotype trusting Samchon, and even started to see CYJ's weakness and also her vulnerabilities. and goodness! why she just can't see, its her dad who kill the happiness of 3 women in his life, including that of CYJ? I wanted her to be the strength behind K2.
the scene between K2 and Anna was so telling here, when the first "couple-fight" finally came between them, and she naively ask him who he chose to be, why don't he cross over to Samchon... silly girl, why throw in all your cards.. has it ever cross your mind, this Samchon is related to Evil Queen, why on earth must he be so 'righteous' to dump his own "sister' to take your side, wow.. you actually believed in Chivalry exist of that Knight to save you from your Princess Tower?
and its very telling to find K2 can't even tell her in her face when he can't tell her stuffs... even stuffs like he has to involved killing people... why, the Baby Leopard cannot even face the fact that in protecting her, part of the bargain is he has to kill? and he has not being tell much about himself, save how much he loved her....
i found between OTP, what i loved to see most is when relationship started of by being friends and communicated deep... between this pair, i saw deep sympathy of plight, touched of her innocence which he craves all these years as he lost his, angelic outward beauty as she shines, her smiles.... but we see not much of communcation...
while between CYJ and himself, surprisingly i find him sometimes disgusted, angry, rude, coldness ... but very open and raw feeling, when he faced CYJ. in short he can faced CYJ with his real face, even if he is staring daggers at her... even in complete silent as CYJ and himself crossed stared at each other... you can feel communications.

like i said somewhere here, K2 seems to exist to provide the Hunk role to create jaw dropping fighting scenes, and to fit the role of a man wounded by lost of first love and finally healed in the arms of his second love. between the fighting scenes and the kissing scenes, mixed in a nose bled nudity show in shower.... other than that, Writernim don't seems to write much characters into the role.. just like i said somewhere Writernim is like the W's dad-writernim. likely he just throw a rough tragic back story without any intention to explain what made K2 in past to become present K2, what make CYJ to become who she is now... and what did Anna do all these years...
many people keep thinking we slight Anna because of Yoona, nope, and Many jsut think we rant against Anna before of wanting a Loveline between CYJ and K2. we know enough that KDramaland still are unable to churn out adulterated couple OTP, the Korean culture will not allowed that. Noona romances maybe, but not adultery! But i wish to see K2 understand and comfort CYJ, and felt for her plight, while stay very faithful to Anna. Anna after all is not a bad person, still the Herione of the story, don't deserve any betrayal... but i wish story break the norm and find a middle ground where one can see, in real life, there are women scorned and dump in their mid life, still beautiful and scarred, unable to move on to love any younger ones. because the world will stone her. i also want to see her by her own step out of the triangle and accept her unrequited love with grace, and walked out of the show, paid her price of doing some 'evil' deed in her life. maybe even died in K2 arm before the OTP walk into the sunset kissing....
i actually see more of CYJ in real women around us, than the "Angel / Princess / Bride' image Anna. of cause real scorned woman does go on in life, without resort to vengeance like hers, but can i write out that they did scarred beyond salvation and they are not ugly bitter evil b'tchy women, they deserved some respect too. SJA did well to address the inner feels of real women in their thirties in broken marriages... so that even people like us, can feels her without experiences such traumas.

I have noticed that too and I realized it probably is either writer or PD brief to actors.
It probably is deliberate ploy because when bad people do bad things with a delighted smile or laugh on their faces, it really grates more than the evil deed. And all these bad characters definitely grate on our collective nerves!!!

What I wanted to say was, I dislike Anna as a character too. Being weak does not make you endearing. Just makes you stupid and she kind of is. So, I need her to learn her lesson as well. (the problem also is, the writing too is really weak for her...So, I do not know what to make of her...)

I think Anna's in a very vulnerable place right now, emotionally.
She's having to confront the world for the first time in her life. She's also having to really grapple with and address the death of her mother for the first time. Add to this that she believes her father to have physically and emotionally abandoned both her and her mother.
These are each major issues to be dealt with by themselves, let alone at the same time.
I personally cut Anna a little slack when it comes to being "strong". The poor girl's got a lot on her plate.

I think you and I are the only people left who like Anna lol I think people forget that she has been closed off from the world for what? 15+ years? i don't really understand how they want her to be less fragile? She's barely come out to the world and she can't truly trust ANYONE but jeha so I think people don't really view her character even remotely realistically.

I think a lot of the hate towards Anna's character is perhaps born of their love for Yoo-jin's character and the subsequent resentment felt at Anna's character being the love-line in her stead (and/or that focus on Anna generally excludes focus on Yoo-jin).

Yes I agree that the writing for Anna is rather weak. But I guess Yoona is trying her best. Her role in PM & I was more interesting and versatile.
As for YJ, her role was more complex and hence the Soon Yoon Ah's performance was more layered and interesting.

I understand that Anna is fradgle and emotionally damaged. She is in fact the victim and has gone through many horrible things, HOWEVER, that doesn't mean her character is intrinsically intresting. Despite all the backstory and trauma the writters have at their disposal to make her intresting and complex, she just is not.
My general indifferce to her character has nothing to do with whether or not I like Yoo Jin.

Se Joon is an independent candidate tried to join the President's Party. Yoo Jin made deal with right hand of President in earlier episodes and later he was threatened by Mr. Park.
President and Mr. Park doesn't have good relationship and both belong to opposite parties. Seems like president was also involved in shady business with Mr. Park. Politicians job is to make money and keep control in their hand and that's what both did.
2nd Opposition within party is also a big force. An outside joining the party and aiming for the position of presidential candidate leaves much scorn among party members. So it was never easy for Se Joon.
On the other hand Mr. Park has firm control over the party and in ep 09-10 Opposition party members senses the change in air and came to visit him.
Se Joon was contained for short period but Yoo Jin revealing the truth just makes everything futile. The only good conclusion you get is Je Ha getting 2M $ and meeting Mr. Park.
Everyone of us knew that Yoo Jin is the best presidential candidate and i think Writer is going that way. I would never vote anyone of them though. Because they all are Enemy of the State and bigger threat to the nation than North Korea.

I honestly didn't enjoy this episode as much as some of the others. All the media manipulation and political manuevering is a little tiresome. What I did take away from this episode is you can't believe anyone except maybe Je-ha and Anna. Yoo-jin's seeming turn around and assertions of innocence in the death of Ume Hye-rin are a little pat and convenient. If all of that is true, what was Secretary Kim tasked with that Je-ha can't know about?
Actually, I have so many unanswered questions right now:
1. How was Park Kwan-soo involved in the incident that got Je-ha kicked out of the military?
2. What was Park Kwan-soo doing in Iraq?
3. What does Chief Joo really know about all this?
4. What exactly happened to Je-ha after he left Anna in Spain?
5. Does Je-ha have a family or anyone that knows his real name other than Chief Joo?
6. What really happened to Ume Hye-rin?
7. Did Yoo-jin really kill people or is she all smoke and mirrors?
8. Did Yoo-jin really give Je-ha control of Mirror or did she just instruct/program Mirror to say that she did and to provide him with information she had already prepared?
9. Why did Yoo-jin's father really give JB Group to Sung-won and JSS to Yoo-jin?
10. What is Sung-won really up to?
11. Do Sung-won and his mother and father-in-law really want Se-joon to be president?
12. Other then as an advisary is Park Kwan-soo related to any of the other players in another way?
13. How are all of the events in the past connected to what is happening now?
That's a lot of questions left to be answered in the few episodes remaining. I really hope that the next episode starts answering questions instead of giving us more. If not, this show is going to end up being the poster child for "Good Dramas Gone Bad: Plot Holes You Could Drive a Truck of Doom Through."

Awesome questions. Completely agree. There's just so much that needs to be answered and so few episodes left to give us those answers.
It's good you brought up that task Jeha isn't supposed to find out about... They kept us in suspense at the end of Ep 11 and then took us in such a different direction in Ep 12 that I almost forgot about it. I can't really come up with any ideas about it either.

This is basically the biggest drawback of this drama. Each week deals with new stuff and brings different new issues and forgets the previous issues instead of solving it, which just leaves the audience confused and wanting more. Especially the previous week where it brought sung won to the forefront when I had been thinking he was just a side character.

Yeah. I prefer Sung Won to Se Joon. I just wish that we have gotten to know more about him and his real intentions in the earlier episodes, around eps 4 - 6 maybe. I also wish that they made SJ a la Frank Underwood from House of Cards, though. Right now he just comes off as a creepy perv who goes after innocent women.

I am glad they featured SW or more. I think Lee Jung Jin is underrated as an actor and I am happy this drama gives him lots of screen time. Besides, he is younger and more handsome to look at compared to SJ. I am glad they made two complex characters now: YJ and SW.

About #8: I think her giving him access to Mirror is a trap. Somehow a part of a greater plan she has.
About #4: good question. Also how did he manage to get into Korea in the first place? Getting from Iraq to Spain while hiding between the Syrian refugees...who do not look Korean at all. Is already impossible to believe lol
But how did he manage to leave Europe with no ID? Or even with a fake ID...his face should be in all Korean databases since he was accused of murder.

I see two possibilities with Je-ha having access to Mirror. I think that probably your trap theory is the correct one. However, I think that there could also be the possibility that Yoo-jin is beginning to change. Perhaps Je-ha's initial treatment of her and subsequent scoldings, I guess you would call them, combined with Master Song's scolding may have caused her to doubt her own actions. A had a thought that perhaps Yoo-jin is hoping that Je-ha will save her from herself. I favor your theory more at this point because we haven't really seen repentance on Yoo-jin's part, but I do think there is some chance that she could be conflicted with herself.

She's coming across as more of a learned sociopath, if such a thing exists. A product of her environment who now uses people like tools and manipulates through emotion instead of responding to it. Someone that clinical and driven can seem to be a villain. That and she's done a hell of a lot of shady crap.
Her reactions with Je Ha are different, though - and curiously, her interaction with Master Song was also a little different. It's like she sees them both as truthful and upright, and lets them talk back to her even when it enrages her. And with Je Ha she might actually be seeing the person she wanted all along, either to be or have by her side. During those moments she seems more like a general in a war than a villain.
She's probably a normal woman who responded to cruelty and manipulation over time until she learned how to use it, and now seems evil. And maybe is evil.

I agree with you totally. Yoojin put on a white suit and pearl jewellery before attempting to meet Jeha in episode 11.
It would be interesting to know her response when she discovers Jeha and Anna's romantic relationship and how she would initially go about trapping Jeha to stay with her after the revenge of Park is completed . However, she loves Jeha for his trust, moral and sense of justice and the way he works as the mirror of her humanity. In the end, she would love him more than herself to him free. Her decision may surprise us.
I think she truly appreciate and know Jeha, her love for Jeha is much deeper and stronger than Anna's love for him.

I do think she is evil. But I also think that for the first time she is faced with her perfect manipulated world showing some serious cracks and she is overwhelmed by the attacks from every side. She is unsure what to do and she is making mistakes...
Or this is all a plot to pretend to be human and crush all the enemies when the least expect it.

Honestly I don't know if there is a thing for ship war or such thing in this drama. Because i think most of us believe that Jae Ha- Anna is or most likely the endgame.
But it's OK, everyone has their own way to enjoy the drama. :)

of course jeha-anna is the endgame, doesn't matter if we believed it or not it's written in the script, their supposedly epic lovestory has been promoted even before the drama started, doesn't matter if we feel the chemistry or not it's what they've planned. unfortunately that sizzling chemistry b/w SYA and JCW came out of nowhere and too unexpected, maybe that's why PD got annoyed and frustrated and had to came out and tried to clarify everything even at the cost of humiliating SYA publicly, every smooth PD nim you jerk face lol
as much as i think SYA-JCW are so hot together onscreen and even though i'm a sucker for noonas romance, i'm honestly don't want yoojin to get in b/w the lovebirds at all especially when jeha doesn't give a dang about her existence. i like it more when the young guy chase after the older woman lol, so i'm hoping SYA and JCW can reunite in a noonas romance drama, that would be so dabeak.
anyway i'm more into SYA in this drama and her alone only and so i'm fined w/o the romance lol everyone else has been so dang boring.

I guess like every other drama, we know which pair would be endgame. And we don't know if the writer intended for SYN - JCW to have a romantic partner or not at the start, but their chemistry is undeniably strong.
I have to say, this is the first time of my years of watching Kdrama to have a Second Female Lead Syndrome - a very strong one at that.
To be fair, it is not young Yoona's fault - Song Yoon Ah came into the drama first (sort of) and she left very strong impression. It doesn't help that JCW ooze chemistry with pretty much everyone and that car scene was done very well to launch this ship.

I’m always intrigued by Jeha’s interactions with Yoojin. At times he seems sympathetic, with hints of the care he had for Rania, and now for Anna. Yoojin evokes pity, and he naturally responds to it in certain situations (ex. when he asks her to tell him the truth about what happened to Anna’s mother). On the other hand, Jeha is no fool. He knows how ruthless and twisted people can be, and has experienced the worst of the world for himself. He constantly warns Anna about her uncle. Is he giving Yoojin a chance, or is he just playing the game?
Yoojin is still my favorite character in this series, even with the possible murder reveal. Does she have psychological issues which made her forget what she did? Is she lying to Jeha to get his sympathy? Or is the robber lying, or mistaking her for someone else? Personally, I think the first option would be the most interesting.
And finding out that she was cut off because she chose to marry for love is both heartbreaking and scary. I say scary, because 1. it’s a huge part of why she is the way she is, 2. being abandoned by someone makes her go all out, and 3. we feel sympathy for her, even knowing what she has done.
Her half-brother is another person whose mind I’d like to pick apart...

Oh yeah! I new it, i may not be a fan of Song Yoona but i had a feeling Yoo Jin was not the culprit behind Hye Rin's death and ep 12 proved me right. Yoo Jin is a soft, loving and caring woman who believes that her only option at acquiring JB group is to make her husband a president, and the only way to achieve that is by playing tough and threaten Anna's life.
About Anna, i think she's on board the wrong ship because the person she's believing to be helping her may actually be the one responsible for her mother's death, wishful thinking?

Well according to this episode, YJ never meant to really kill Anna. It was an empty threat to keep Father of the year on her side. So I guess as of episode 8 she trusted in Jeha's fighting abilities that he would take down the several snipers she had lined up on the roofs of the secret house.

Yoojin is just layers and layers of interesting stories & you can't really pinpoint if she's good or evil. And I like that, because I like to believe there are those just trying to survive between the gray area. Is it so wrong to want to survive? She did what she had to because she made mistakes because of this icky thing called "feelings", and now, in order to survive she knew she had to become THE Queen.
Anna still doesn't know what she's doing. She trusts Sungwon only on the basis that he hates Yoojin too. She's still a pawn and unless she rises (FAST) to become a Queen like Yoojin, she is never going to live in a dreamhouse in Spain with Je Ha.

@HD. well then, it's a let down. while JCW shines no matter how dim the role gotten, and managed to reprise his prized character.. yet Anna is NO WHERE near Chae Youngshin.
at least we know Chae Young shin, is the one that protected Bongsookie, many times, not that she is fearless, in fact Youngshin is fearful and sense impending danger, but when needs arised, she fought hard, and even ask Booksookie to run, here, Anna did not. in fact because of her naive and one tracted mind of revenge and anger, and blind trust, she put JH into danger, and even rebel against his good advices.
CYS trusted her man, even when communication stop when he went into hiding, not once but twice... this girl here, doubted JH that easy, jsut by some easy words of Samchon, and jealousy throw in her open direct challenged, are you with me or with her... c'mon, when can we stop hearing weak heroine character keep asking their man, "are you with me or with her? do you love me or love her...."
while i know that its her quality of pure innocence that captivated him, i believed its that dancing over a ramyun saga that set his heart pounding. But i always like to watch a OTP relationship taht start off a friendship like unto Youngshin and Booksie, that they communicate well, in fact they pour out their heart well, its thru the pouring and sharing of hearts slowly melted Bongsookie heart towards Youngshin. But here, i kept seeing attractions cycled around the outward manifestation of pure innocence, pity towards vulnerabiites, and not to mentions, Anna's repeated Image of Angelic Host look, or her Snow White victimized by Evil Step mom back story... Youngshin will never be a Snow White or an Angel. Youngshin is our 'GIrl Next Door", who dont fess over Make over and facial and Wings (yes, Literally Angelic Wings)... CYS's the fearless little LAMB that fight a pack of wolves. Does she has weaker back story than this herioine? no. but we don't find CYS weep at least once every eps. in fact its her smile and chirpy ways that mesmerized BS much.

Whether YooJin killed Anna's mom or not, she did hold Anna hostage so her husband would do as she bid. Or did he let her think he did.
The fun of watching an episode on mute is her father comes across as a passive aggressive manipulating douche bag that would let his wife believe she is controlling him while she does all his dirty work.
All these years YooJin blackmailed Anna's survival to keep him from toeing her instructions.
With this episode, YooJin showed she is no pushover that anyone can blackmail her. She had one too many situations that put her in bad light. In one fell swoop, she did what JeHa warned Anna, if Anna questioned her mother's history by telling hthe world who her father is. Anna will be the child that destroyed her father's chances while YooJin a true psychopath will walk away with sympathy of a wife who stood next to her husband thick and thin while he cheated on her. It will now make Anna pariah. YooJin put up with too much of neglect and abuse through years by her husband, the slap in prev epi was the last straw. If she can make him, she can break him.
If YooJin family hated her till now, they will dread her becoming the President based on public sympathy. Sung Won and YooJin are two peas in one pod. While she is overtly manipulating, he is covertly.
For me, I don't feel any chemistry between them. Whether they were meant to act such or if they really don't have a connection is up for its own debate. it feels more like Anna is crushing on JeHa than in love. On JeHa's part it doesn't feel like love either just that he is compensating for not protecting Raniya. When the show ends, I wouldn't be surprised if they just thank each other from bringing the other out of their abyss and walking away their separate ways.
JeHa and YooJin on other hand have a chemistry that makes me want to put them in different rooms or watch their on screen interaction hoping they don't have a go at it on the table in Cloud Nine.
Worse part is even YooJin and evil secretary have chemistry. Just not JeHa and Anna.

For 11 episodes, they tell us that Anna is a splitting image of her mother.. from how she looks to even little things as how she walks...
As luck would have it, mommy dearest is really famous so there is no 'confusion' over whether Anna resembles her or not.

LOL, yeah, narrative logic and consistency is not too strong with this writer.
That being said, one of the most consistent things I've noticed in this show, is that scar on Je Ha's cheek. Unlike other shows where the scars disappear after an episode, it's been what, 3? episodes, and he still sports that scar. So ... cosmetically consistent but possibly logically loop-holey. :)

Repeated themes or scenes sort of poke me. They get me asking if the show creator is trying to say something more here. Sometimes I'm just doing it for fun and sometimes I'm reading too much into it... not sure about this time.
Which now gets me to think... with both Anna and Je Ha nicely made up by professionals for the fashion shoot ... have we entered a new phase in their relationship? Will the trust continue to grow or will they be putting on new faces for each other instead. Anna looked conflicted... (@ gummimochi mentioned doubtful?) at the make up session.
I note that since the last episode Yoo Jin is saying to not let Je Ha know her secret plan and now Sung Won tells Anna to keep Je Ha in the dark as well their plans.
And fresh out of the hospital, Yoo Jin now appears without make up or nice clothes to implicate her husband. Looks like this is the one fight she can do best without armour after all!

And then come ep 12 and just because 1 ridiculous post the reporters believe Anna is Yoo Jin's daughter.
I don't know which one is more stupid, the writer or the characters in the drama?

yeah, i remember that scene. but i don't think it necessarily implied that anna actually bore a strong resemblance to her mother... maybe it's just me. she just told anna that she was pretty, like her mother. literally translated, because she resembled her mother.
but in korean, i'm not sure that yoo-jin's words were meant to mean that anna actually looked like hye-rin.

She is saying Anna is her daughter because Anna is her husband's. Take note on the "like my own" part ;) She is playing the victim card here so people would sympathize her for enduring a cheating husband all these years.

@growingbeautifully @fab i noticed that too on the make over scene! as Healerite there had been lists piling up on identical Healer scenes and as much as possible I want this not to be highlighted but I really cant help myself being a huge fan of Healer. In episode 11 alone, I have noted 3 identical scenes as follows: (i dont know if you will agree with me)
1) backhug / rooftop scene (although i know that it is now a crime not to have a backhug scene in any kdrama, i still belive that is is identical to Healer's ep17 backhug of YS/JH at the rooftop and backhug scene in ep16 with the blanket)
2) the running welcoming hug of Anna for Jeha after Jeha's mission is identical to welcome hug of YS for JH in ep 19 after JH returned after her forced admission that he killed a killer
3) anna soaking Jeha's wound is a reminisce of YS nursing of JH wound, Anna even has the same blowing acting with YS lol!
I hope writernim and pdnim will think of other ways for a mushy scene and not just refer to any other drama, more the way from Healer!

Oh yes the rooftop running and rooftop scene are identical to Healer. As much as possible I dont want to compare this drama to Healer but it seems that every episode there is at least one or two resemblances that is noticeable. I hope writernim and pdnim will exert some more creativity than just picking from other drama and do some "tweaking" to make it appear ingenius!

This show really has potential to do so well. But the terrible writing just kills of the whole interesting premise of this show.
It is just a mess all around. Like there is no smooth flow to the story and things keep popping up here and there, and so many questions unanswered.
It would be really nice to see a more fuller political drama. I love watching political dramas, and without main romantic angles or relationships the drama could work so well.
The only interesting character in this drama is now Chairman Choi. His smooth honey-like words, can make anyone believe him to be sweet and kind, yet he is truly capable of doing anything to get what he wants. Love the actor playing this role.
Yoo Jin's character just doesn't hold that much power and hunger now, like she did before in the initial episodes. Her scenes have become boring too. Song Yoonah overacts in some scenes and some scenes she does well.

I've got to agree with the Yoo Jin part, but I guess you can say that for almost every character.
Jena doesn't do much and frankly i feel as if he's as much underdeveloped as a character as Anna is as well. I'd even say he's more underdeveloped than Anna. The only thing tied to his character is the stupid Raniya backstory (which as you can tell i hate so much and don’t find this revenge plot convincing or interesting). We don’t know anything about Jeha’s family and most times he’s screen time is wasted on the loveline or him fighting
And back to Yoojin, who i found such a compelling character at the start is sort of redundant. Not all the time but the constant yelling, throwing glass, etc. can go on for so long before it gets annoying

This drama is chock full of underdeveloped characters. There's Se Joon, who has been reduced to a creepy perv, and Chief Joo, who we still don't know a lot of despite being connected to YJ, SJ and JH. Even PKS, who I found a compelling villain in the beginning, has become boring, too. He seems to have run out of evil plans already.
And, yes, Sung Won is, at least for me, the most interesting character of the lot. As for Anna, I'm also intrigued as to how dark she can go in her search for the truth. I really enjoyed her interview with YJ in an earlier episode and I hope that we'll get more of that Anna. I also welcome Master Song's introduction as a loyal and long time aide to the Choi family. I'm guessing that he knows a lot more than he lets on. He probably knows who is behind the death of Anna's mom, too.

I agree with you @voice. All the characters seemed to have shortly developed (yet? But i guessed 4 more eps is very tight already to have rhwm all get completed) and I agree the lead role of Jeha is written so weak not compelling, and i am not also convince of his revenge route. There has not been any gripping situations or scenes where we can say that he is really taking his vendetta seriously! This is the fault of those romantic interludes which the writer and the pdnin have beefed up so fast that they have forgotten to concretize the real motives of Jeha in joining the JSS!

Choi Yoo Jin basically trusts Je Ha so much more now, what's with giving full access to Cloud Nine and the Mirror? Much more than Chief Kim and other Chiefs. Without asking Je Ha is gaining trust and given full access. Imagine if he actually asks for JSS, I bet Yoo Jin will give it to him happily and she'll only sit in the backgrund. LOL
Btw have you guys read the interview snippet given by The K2 PD? As much as I know that Je Ha-Anna is the OTP and Je Ha-Yoo Jin definitely not, it still breaks my heart seeing the PD said something really low and blamed Song Yoon Ah. That they didn't intend to have any more lovelines than the OTP and somehow Song Yoon Ah did more than she's asked in the script, therefore create confusion and misleading people to believe she loves Je Ha. After all, why the heck that old ahjumma dares to love young man? *eye-rolls*
He really should be grateful to her that she alone makes this drama much more interesting and many viewers (including DB readers) still continue watching his show, despite the mess. And yes she probably did more than she's asked in the script and elevate the character into someone really complex with many layers. Shouldn't the PD be thankful and even praise her for the efforts? I don't really understand him.

@kanz: totally agree w/ u. though i'm glad to discovered SYA from this drama, but now i feel so bad for her, it's like PD insulted her and embarrassed her publicly. what are we suppose to think with the car accident scene with the slow motion and the music the camera angle the way they filmed it, the umbrella scene with jeha went overboard to save yoojin, and now in ep12 the scene where yoojin zoom in to see pic of jeha and smile to herself, and the way she talked to him lowering and softening her voice, threatening chief kim if she dared to harm jeha again. i can understand that there's no love coming from jeha, but clearly at this point yoojin has fall for jeha, heck even jeha-anna shippers who hated yoojin with a passion and continuously calling her names are admitting that yoojin is clearly in love with jeha.
i thought the director is the one who tell SYA what to do how to interpret the character, had a discussion with her on the character development and STOP her when PD thinks she's heading in wrong direction, and now they all turn around and blame it on her!!!
at this point, i'm confident to say that this drama is nothing without SYA, never in my drama life that i heard a director complaint an actor for doing such a good job.
poor SYA, the PD is such a douch for making that kind of comment, if there's anyone to blame, it should be the writer for writing such a messy plot. gosh, what an embarrassing situation for SYA, to be publicly criticized by the PD for not being professional enough and misinterpret the character.

Urgh, I just feel so so very frustrated by the writing of the drama which doesn't really help the actors to shine. And I'm so annoyed by Anna as Jeha's pairing. I feel like his capability as a character is reduced by always ending up saving her damsel-in-distress character. It would've been a more fascinating drama had he been in a complicated love relationship with Yoo Jin. Urgh! The possibilities!

This episode confused me a bit. I was thinking about it since I watched it yesterday and I do think that this is all a plan orchestrated by YJ. As Je Ha was saying to Anna he cannot believe that YJ left a witness behind that could frame her for murdering Anna's mother. So I assume the story told by that guy is partially fake. I do believe he was in the house but he did not see YJ kill Anna's mother. I think it was Secretary Kim. Not on YJ orders but on her own. JY said she did not kill her and she did not order the hit but that those not mean that she did not accept the offer made by someone else. The Secretary showed countless times how loyal she is to her Madam.
The fact that the TV presenter was tipped off about the existence of the guy in prison is very suspicious. What if YJ planned this knowing that her brother would get Anna there and use that confession as a trump card against her? She knew her bother would somehow leak the info to the press...maybe not in the way he did, which caused her that stress related breakdown, but she was expecting his move. She then realised that she was the only one that would loose everything and she probably realised that JB Group would make a move to her husband on their side so she decided to reveal Anna's paternity to the world. This way Anna becomes useless to her brother. YJ will probably come up with some story saying that they discovered the paternity just recently. This way public support will not turn completely against the both of them?
I also have my doubts about YJ giving Je Ha full access to Mirror. Did she do this because she fell for him or is it part of a trap that somehow will create tension between him and Anna?

In all seriousness though this show legit just feels like an overly long action film that just happens to have cut its film into different parts....
Although the characters are all changing in one way or another the changes are sooo minor that even at week 12 we are still left wondering if we truly know any of the character and where their true intentions lie.
Of course side characters you can truly tell but in amongst our main four (Anna, K2, YJ and Papa Bear) Although you can sometimes feel like you really know the character and you don't think they could surprise you they do something totally weird.
But I guess this is the writers way of doing things... But I just feel like by episode 12 we should have a little bit more concrete on our feelings for our characters... Also when did the Uncle become such a huge part of the drama!? He was legit just there to be a pest for YJ and now all of sudden he is playing a such a large role with how the plot moves... I hope the writer has their cards laid out right cause this can go one way or another
But all of this pessimism aside I still freaking love this show and sometimes I have no clue why I come back and get excited over seeing that the new episode is out XD

Some bits and pieces remind me of the US TV series Once Upton a Time where the evil queen has to battle against maleficent. In some cases the uncle is maleficent and he is battling against the evil queen. According to Master Song the brother is even worse than the sister... But I think he lacks proper planning skills.

Whoaaaa. Way to regain control Yoo Jin. I thought she could use that against her husband since he's bowing to her enemies, but it's mind blowing. Go Yoo Jin!
I despise Je Soon's passiveness to the core, and especially hated his use of physical violence against a women, because really he is lacking in intelligence to comprehend his surroundings. He's basically a dummy that follows the hand that controls his leash. It's time the public sees what a pathetic twit he really is.
Sung Won is a force of nature, loving LJJ's portrayal of the vindictive character. Which Je Ha pales in comparison with. Is it his infatuation with Anna that is blinding him to see what's going on around her? Sung Won has reporters follow Anna's moves everywhere, and it's Anna that's keeping it a secret from Je-ha? How the hell does that even work. Oh, Je-ha.
I can't help but compare Anna's situation with Yong-pal's Sleeping Beauty, the latter was slowly being infected with cancer in water for years. The writer is just repeating that ridiculous plot here in the form of suspicious pills, but it's just as dumb this time around.

Oh! really? Then maybe I should check it out, because I find their romance here so not compelling and feel like they are more like filler scenes and romance for the sake of romance. But, I don't think its the leads' fault, only the writing. Makes me miss the heart warming romance of healer where we saw the leads getting close in each episode that when they finally got together, it felt so gratifying.

What if the pills that uncle is giving Anna are not entirely anxiety pills but pills that lets Anna be manipulated?
She spent all these years without medication abd she dis not remember a damn thing that transpired the night of her mom's death. All of a sudden, she can place the convict there.
As much as YooJin is playing a weak card, i want to see a scene where she literally yanks her brother off his feet.
I gave up on this show right after strawberry allergy. When this show started I expect a combination of IRIS+City Hunter+Healer. Except JeHa's fighting skills and his smoldering screen presence, this series is not worth it.

I have been largely disappointed by the writing of this series thus far but I thought this episode was finally where things finally got interesting and moved along faster! Thanks Gummi mochi for the recap.
Regarding Anna's memory of Yoo Jin smothering her mother which contradicts Yoo Jin's own confession of the events, my view is that You Jin most likely had to create a convincing story to Se Joon and others of her murdering Anna's mother and that may have involved some brain washing of Anna to think so. It seems like her brother is also aware of Yoo Jin's involvement in the murder.

Really enjoying the show and the power play that is happening!
Although Yoo jin does not deserve an easy way out and probably needs to pay for her sins, the other greedy bastards are worst than her. LOL
I really find her a compelling character and Jeha is just a thrill to watch being pulled between these 2 women.
I do think he probably respects Yoo jin and understands her situation, and we can see that, but then there is Anna who is an important person now in his life that does not like Yoo jin given what she has done to her.
It's an interesting conflict for Jeha and JCW is playing it very well to navigating the 2 women.
Look forward to seeing the mystery reveal. It's exciting to see what really did happen that night, and who really is the killer.

My friend and I have been watching K2 together. Either in person or with Skype. I told her about the new report of how tiring Ji Chang-wook found shooting this drama because of the fight scenes. We have been creating a list of our own of what other parts of the drama would be tiring. The list so far:
1) fight scenes (original idea)
2) flashbacks and feeeeling them
3) rolling his eyes (at everyone)
4) looking sheepish and loving through a door
5) waiting during long dramatic pauses

9) mentally tired as loosing control of the Princess that found freedom after break out of Evil-Witch Tower, but princess trusting bad wizard to eat queer pills.
10) physically tired now, not just watching Princess thru CCTV at his armchair.. or just climb rooftop. he needs to make sure Princess don't sneak behind his back lure by Wizard to get lost secretly to somewhere. from TV show, to fashion show, and graveyard.... goodness know where else....
11) sentimentally tired, as he started to feel CYJ more, and knowing he is getting torn in between Princess and the seemingly not so evil 'Evil queen". and started to feel for Queen not affectionately, but feel for her plight and grateness for her trust and friendship. i think he will labour to save CYJ soul and let her end a peaceful end in the end, after asking her to own up and served her sentence.

How can they say the PD didn't expect the JeHa/YooJin has anyone else noticed the music? Also I have watched the car scene twice and the umbrella scene 3 or 4 times. I don't think JeHa is into her but you can't deny he does super cool things and she looks dazzled by him.

Yeah, I have to agree with this. At least with the umbrella scene. I was never on the Jeha-Yoojin camp, and I didn't ever think there was romance between them, but I watched the umbrella scene again today and I can see how some parts can be misinterpreted.
The thing that got me was how Jeha put his hand on Yoojin's lower back. Even though he says right after "Straighten your back and keep your chin up, your enemies are watching" etc...
Do they not know that it's an affectionate gesture for a man to put his hand on a woman's back? I mean, sure... He didn't keep his hand there. It was a light touch. But why touch her at all?? He didn't need to. It's misleading.

In Korean culture, a hoobae, a younger man will not any how touch a older lady - a Sunbae. maybe the most just hands or what, if ever need to touch... shoulders are the limit, and definitely not the waist... waist are more for closer relationship... i should say he Jehu crossed his Boundaries, and he should know it... 1) she's an older lady. 2) she's an superior in 'career rank", actually a boss. 3) she's not a closed friend or girl friend. so, i guess, for K2 to do that, he has already treat her as a chingus , while not really having any romantic thoughts.

I don't know why I have been fighting this feeling...oh yeah, she's like murderous and manipulative, greedy...err, I can replace that with ambitious, right?
Anyway, I get why her secretary would do ANYTHING for her.
I know it's sick, but I just love how thorough she is in love and revenge. No half-assed attempts.

Now that Javabeans has us all fantasizing about a younger Yoo Jin and child Anna, I can't help but think that scene on the roof in Episode 11 would've been much more powerful if it were a child's simple understanding of life that comforted JCW in that moment. Child hugs with broken people? Yes please. Child Wisdom on life creating sweet and profound moments? Yes please. Child Anna meaning JCW ACTUALLY IS PROACTIVE IN FIGHTING ALL THE BLOODY MANIPULATIVE PEOPLE IN THIS DRAMA? Yesss FREAKING please.
But no, because that's not the show I'm watching :( *sigh*

LOL @sicarius. haha. since you mentioned 'Child-Anna", i actually was along tihinking. TvN is pretty 'pop-fan-pleasing', giving fans what they expected. so, one major question: where is the stereotype of having OTP in childhood met and 'fall in puppy love' and meet again in adulthood and truly goes "goosh, she was my dreamgirl since 7 yrs old...".if you ever have a Child Anna, TvN will made sure sitting behind her will be Child Jeha. it will NOT be the show you are looking at... coz, then the fans will not get their Girl Gen Star's kiss.... afterall, its all about "Angel Wings and Princess dance and Bridal fashion dress"... that will bring in ratings.
simple but raw and straight to the heart Wisdom in Life quotes... not from a drama that cast in Kpop idols.

I will only say this: the writer only developed Yoojin's character and it's almost like she has forgotten that the drama is called The K2. Personally, I think that everyone is acting great with what material they are given but it's becoming tedious that now we still don't know JeHa's story or real name and that Anna's character develpement has stopped (she was so interesting before, like WTF happened, when is she going to kick ass??) with so few episodes remaining but now we just that everything all the time about that married ahjumma Yoojin :(

Okay... Yoo Jin is crushing on Je Ha isn't she? He's like her knight in shining armour and thinking about him makes her forget just how miserable she is with her husband.
And I'm crushing on her. So shrewed yet sympathetic. So smart yet vulnerable. She proves that she's just human after all.
