Kang Dong-won shows his inner child in Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned
by tineybeanie
Kang Dong-won (A Violent Prosecutor) playing a child trapped in a grown-up’s body? I’m in. The upcoming fantasy melo film Hidden Time (also known as Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned) starring Kang Dong-won and child actress Shin Eun-soo is to premiere in Korea this coming November. From the synopsis, it looks like a cross between Bridge to Terabithia and A Werewolf Boy: A girl and a boy on the edge of adolescence become inseparable friends until the boy vanishes seemingly into thin air.
Tyro child actress Shin Eun-soo plays the lonely girl Soo-rin, who after losing her mother, moves to a new village with her stepfather. There, a young boy named Sung-min befriends the lonely girl. The trailer starts off with Soo-rin asking Sung-min: “Do you like me?” His “yes” marks the start of their close new friendship. Together they play all day, inventing secret codes, finding special hiding places, and making unforgettable memories. One day, they go on an adventure with their classmates to explore the mountains. But a calamitous event occurs, and all the children disappear except for Soo-rin.
A few days later, a man who says that he is Sung-min (Kang Dong-won) appears before Soo-rin. He claims that he was trapped in the place of “stopped time” where he spent more than a decade, aging while the world stood still. Soo-rin believes his story, but the local police and the villagers are heartbroken by the loss of the schoolchildren, and suspicious of the adult Sung-min’s strange, sudden appearance. Doubting his story, they begin chasing him as the primary suspect behind the children’s disappearance.
The trailer captures the unique chemistry between both actors, encapsulating their innocent friendship and true faith in each other. She helps him readjust back to the real world by cutting his hair, and says that with his shorn locks, she can see remnants of his old face. They read together and spend their days like before, until she must hide him from the rest of world when people turn on him because they don’t believe his story. The individual character posters read as a conversation between the two main leads. Kang Dong-won’s poster says: “Do you think people will believe that I am Sung-min?” while his eyes reflect his uncertainty. Shin Eun-soo stares back sincerely, and her poster replies: “Don’t worry, I will recognize you.”
Kang Dong-won’s new film Hidden Time premieres on November 10.

Waaah!! He's still one of my favorite male stars ever. The second to the last picture left me breathless.
P.S. The boy looks a bit like So Ji Sub and the girl, a bit like Kang So Ra.

Yeah, there's some irony to be found in his playing this role, given that IRL, KDW seems to have a supernatural non-aging power.

Truth. I swear, he could have played his original role in 1% of Anything and I wouldn't have noticed anything different until they show the heroine.

please come back to the small screen -- 2 hours isn't long enough to stare into those sultry, moody, beautiful eyes...
must have at least 16 hours, preferably 20.
; )
altho, those 2 hours of Kundo were great, he was so gorgeous...

I thought he couldn't get any prettier but boy, am I wrong. The longer hairstyle is so pretty! Too bad he got it cut in the movie tho.

Tineybeanie described it perfectly.
When i was reading it, thought, this sounds like A Warewolf Boy. Then I read further and was reminded of Bridge To Teraberthia...and guess what happened at the end of both movies? The Onion Ninjas attacked!

There is still hope. The Last Princess was shown in Theater just this August. And there is now eng sub for it. I highly recommend this movie. I cried bucket of tears at the sad life Princess Deokhye led. She was a victim of war, greed, and politics.
I hope this get subs quickly too because it's intriguing. And also because KDW never disappoints. :)

How can he be aging backwards? Or, is he just getting prettier as he ages.
He looks better now compared to when I first saw him in Too Beautiful to Lie (movie). Although he was already pretty in Temptation of Wolves. But he looked older before.

Hahahaha...
Since 2005, I've had an obscene obsession on this guy.
When I first watched Temptation of Wolves, I just couldn't help but fall for his doe eyed look.
Then I saw him in Duelist and it sealed my fate... he rocked the saguek mane of glory.

I'm not big on fantasy but I loved Werewolf Boy.
It's good to see new faces debuting in two solid projects. I hope Shin Eun-soo is as good as the 3 teenage Kims.
I'm glad they have a known film actor like Kang Dong-won in the lead.
Uhm Tae-hwa (director/writer) doesn't have much under his belt but Showbox is pretty solid so it might have a fair amount of screens.
Here is rooting for the new guys!

Oh no! That poor kid! Can you imagine playing as a kid one day, and next thing you know, everyone treats you like an adult? Taxes and laws and work and stuff?
Okay that doesn't sound as tragic but... life is hard. :| Kids shouldn't skip childhood.

Yeah if there was a setup where the opposite happens: I go for a walk in the woods and then turn into child again. No more work and taxes and Adult Decisions.
I wouldn't mind that occasionally.

All I have to say I'm reminded of the movie bridge to terabitha again, i cried buckets and that's even an understatement. Everytime i remembered the movie the days after, i cried. I cried so much, my mum actually thought i got my heart broken by a boy. She was right though just not about d reason. That movie's ending shattered my heart. I was mad at my best friend for a while for making me watch d movie to d end when she knew how it was going to end and knowing fully well I'm not a fan of movies with sad ending, talking about you will loveeeeeeeeee this movie. I did love it though but I've never rewatched the movie after then. Till date I don't know why that movie hit me hard..
Pheww man, did I go off track or wutt?!
On topic. Kang Done Won its just like he doesn't age. Like how can he be so fine even with that hair??

Aurgh! Kindred spirit! lol
I too cannot handle sad endings where the hero/heroine dies or is terminal. I stay away from such movies/dramas as much as possible cos the few ones I've seen made me cry for days! And the ache lingers on in your heart... As in if I suddenly remember a scene a few days after I start crying!
For example, I really really wanna watch Miracle in Cell No 7 but I haven't had the guts to yet. *shudder

Sad Eyes ends up in a Brilliant Life, minus progeria... and meets himself coming and going.
Seriously though, I'm drooling at the prospect of another flick by KDW. Jubilation!

I guess it was good that I've seen KDW in "temptation of wolves" before I watched that 1% drama. cause I still can't believe that I actually finished it. ah, those early days of drama watching obsession... anyway, I loved all of KDW movies so far. I have high hopes for this one too.
on a trivia note. if you liked the "bombastique" moonlight teaser you should definitely watch KDW in "a violent prosecutor"! :D
