Gogh’s Starry Night gets weekend timeslot on SBS
by girlfriday
Web drama Gogh’s Starry Night is getting a second life on SBS as a 4-episode mini drama to be broadcast on Saturday-Sunday. The workplace rom-com is the first web drama from PD Jo Soo-won of Pinocchio and I Hear Your Voice, and was already released in China where it surpassed ten million views in three weeks.
This is an interesting case where the drama will belatedly get a domestic release as a prime-time TV show, which is probably due in large part to SBS pushing back Saimdang, Light’s Diary until January, leaving its previous timeslot — the post-Second to Last Love spot this fall — open on weekends. A 4-episode drama won’t be much more than a bandaid in terms of filling the programming slot, but it’s a nice opportunity for the web series and its stars.
The light romance stars Kwon Yuri (Neighborhood Hero) as an employee at an advertising agency, and Kim Young-kwang (D-Day) as the surly boss she dislikes. Lee Ji-hoon (Mirror of the Witch) is the ex-boyfriend who dumped her heartlessly, and when he joins the company as a team leader, he tries to win her back. And as if that weren’t enough suitors, Shin Jae-ha (Wanted) is the hoobae with a starry-eyed crush on her.
The drama also features cameos from Pinocchio’s Lee Jong-seok, Park Shin-hye, and Yoon Kyun-sang, which given the 4-episode length, might be reason enough for me to check this out. I think the plot boils down to one girl, many suitors, and not much else; but it seems cute and fluffy. Maybe those of you who’ve already seen the web drama version can tell us if you’d recommend it.
Gogh’s Starry Night follows Second to Last Love and premieres October 22 on SBS.

What can we expect from a korean rom-com? I just watched this because of Kim Young Kwang. Really love him here and also in his D-day and Lookout too !! He is good in Stranger In The House too but the plot isn't good.

I put it on while doing some HW (not a good idea but a bad habit that won't go away) and it was just a cute, fluffy watch really. Nothing too amazing but nothing bad.

Binge watch first 10 ep last night (I think the full eng sub recently came out and major streaming site just uploaded it).
It is fluffy and light love comedy. The plot is predictable but it surprisedly could keep me watching the show.
Worth give it a go.

Just finished later 10 ep, indeed cute and fluffy. All characters are likable. Not too much and not too bland. The script and scenes are nicely arranged and written.
Ps. This make me notice Kim Young Kwang too. I think he is starring the new coming drama, the man living n our house, adding more reason to watch beside Su Ae and storyline.

I agree with you..Binge watched yesterday plot is almost predictable but you never get bored or such. And also the lead, I liked him in Pinocchio but in here he has a bigger role, and he really shined in it. I think i will look forward to more projects by him.

I enjoyed watching this over the last two days. I thought it was well written for a short series and the production values were better than expected. The stuff of typical rom com's,but a popular formula is popular for a reason. This is the first time I have found Kim Young-Kwang appealing and it was nice to see Lee Ji goon without the open Mirror of the Witch sores.

Yep. Really don't get a) how Van Gogh's painting bears any relation to this show and b) why they think the Van is optional, but there you have it.

No, it's playing on the fact that Yuri’s character name is Go Oh which is pronounced like Gogh. They did not opt not to use the Van for the heck of it and since it is all romance they put starry night though that piece of artwork isn't necessarily about romance.

It's a pun on Yuri's character whose name is Go-ho. Goho's/Gogh's Starry Night.

Blasphemy! Tried to watch the teaser for a trace of the Starry Night, but quite ironically it's not made available in my country, Van Gogh's country of birth. LOL

I have no intention of watching anything Kim Young Kwang is in until he apologizes for being an asshole (which will likely never happen). Honestly just seeing him mentioned disgusts me.

Let's give him the benefit of doubt. That he has grown and learnt from his mistake. Its been years. I'd like to think he has changed.

I just finished marathoning it and it was very well made. Loved the cameos from the Pinocchio cast and how they supported their fellow actor. Kim Young Keak absolutely shone in this and he has matured as an actor. Keon Yuri also held her own, and all the cast did a good job.
However I found the web series too long. 20 episodes were too much. They would still have been able to tell the same story with fewer episodes 12 or 16 without tiring the viewer out. By the end it began to feel cyclical, and I just wanted Go Ho to make her choice and be done with it!

Binged watch 20 episodes. Only 20 mins per episode which is okay... Kim Young Kwang nailed His role... great chemistry.. it's been a while since I get so absorbed in a romance genre.. this had second time twenty years old , she was pretty... and the lead actor's epic one liner .. haha .. i even rewatched it.. plot was nicely written there is some marriage not dating vibe to it though.. cheesy? Cliche? Yea but it's definitely worth it to watch..
